He is a good teacher. as long as you dont get in his way, never diss him. he will give you a good grade i had all b's on my essays and still walked out with an A because i did stuff in class, and memorized 20 words. If you want to learn lots, not good

hertz is a really good teacher, but his class is the most boring class i have ever taken. he is a good man, and he is extremely helpful if you ask him for help. the class is secretly an easy A. i dont know what that means,but take it for what its worth.

Boring!!! He's nice and helpfull but it's really hard to stay awake. I got mostly B's and and a few C's but managed to get an A. It hard to get lower then a B. You just need to participate in class and you'll be okay. I suggest you take him.

Mr. Hertz is a great teacher and mentor you can really learned alot from him. He gives reading and then you write about you learned. He gives terminology which is great because you really learned something. He is willing to meet with you during his office hours and go the extra mile even if you have a disablility. Please take him he is good.

He is a good teacher and even though English is my second language I got a B from him. You should only turn in your essays before the end of the semester. He never confuses you. I loved him

I love Professor Hertz. I took him for English 1 and went back for more. He is brilliant and helpful and extremely interesting. If you are looking to fly by this isn't the class. If you are looking to learn than I recommend him 100%

Very well educated instructor, i suggest this class if you are actually interested in learning. Essays are not graded too hard, and he is a nice guy. Don't plan on coming to class every other day though, that doesnt float his boat. hah

Excellent teacher, come to think of it. Hertz loved to talk about everything in class, from his life to the readings we would do. The essays are doable and if you should ever need any help with them, I'm sure he'd be more than happy to help you. Easy class. Also a very reasonable teacher when it comes to grades.

Mr. Hertz is a very easy going guy, and his class is very easy to pass. I got A's on all of my papers in this class. However i would like to note that he is an extreme liberal democrat who doesn't really like to hear a difference of opinion other than his own. For his essays you have to write what he wants to hear or you'll fail.

*I took Hybrid class. Great teacher - very funny dry humor- best advice is to do well on your first paper (students seemed to stay in the grade-range of first assignments). Listen during lectures and really read online materials - he spells out what exactly what he's looking for on essays - Study for vocab quizes for extra points. Take this class!

hybrid online class. very good teacher, very helpful and will make us work. all information to do well on the test is on website and his questions. Plus he is always ready to help in threaded discussion. One particularity though: if you need to talk to him, make sure to stand on the other side of the desk (not next to him). But he is very nice!

Took the class expecting to be writing about an essay every 2 weeks and got basically what I expected. If you do the essays and study for the quizzes you'll get an A for sure. He's a very friendly teacher but likes to talk a lot in class and will keep you up until the very last minute of class. He knows what he's talking about and he's smart!

He's a great friendly guy. Loves to tell a lot of corny jokes. He is an extreme liberal (borderline anarchist) and his whole curriculum revolves around his political views (I didnt dare oppose him). Not an easy A. You gotta work at your essays, and study easy terminology terms. He is an easy guy to talk to, and go to his office hours!

I am halfway through his 6 week online English 1 course 1 essay and 12 short answers in a discussion thread a week communication via e-mail is very good- usually within 1 day and helpful if you read all the material, he kinda gives you what to write about. you're gonna have to work hard, and he won't give anything for free. I have a B now

TAKE HIM!! Every person that says that it's a hard class is someone that did not do their work. For me his class was fair. I did the essays, which were only 5 paragraphs long. I studied for vocab quizzes, and there are 5 of them. I emailed when I needed help and he always replied back. Hey, its Eng 2, what else do you expect, an easy class.

Uri Hertz is a good teacher. Very interesting to follow in class, with a lot of knowledge about literature and history. Sure he is very demanding and not easy grading. He seems to be open to new ideas and dialog even though he TALKS A LOT. If someone thinks ONLY in a good grade "lasciate ogni speranza" before enroll in his class.

Not an easy grader, but fair. If you do all of your homework and engage in discussions you can get an A and also learn how to write a college level essay-whole point of the class! Anyone who says he's hard to understand must not be listening. About not allowing outside research-it's not needed cause we're analyzing texts not writing research papers

Lessons are very repetitive. It's an easy course except if you yawn you might get a sarcastic rant in front of the whole class for 10 minutes straight.

If you proceed to take this online class please note that it's a very intense course spanned over 6 Weeks. I spent probably over 15 hours per week more than the allotted 9 hours per week. You have to keep up in discussion, and put forth your best effort. He is understanding, helpful, and insightful. Though I received a B it wasn't easy at all.

Very funny and nice professor. If you ask for help he will give it to you. I received B's on on my essays and got an A in the class. I think it's because I did all the homework, turned it on time and got all A's on the vocabulary test. Professional adult behavior is expected which was nice because it gets annoying when people are ill mannered.

Prof. Hertz is a dedicated Professor who clearly loves teaching and teaching well. He will set your college career up for life and you will never look at text the same way again, he gives you the correct tools to analyze text and write about it. SMC is lucky to have this Professor. Take any class he teaches.

Puts students on the spot. Receiving and A is next to impossible with him, thought the terminology quizzes are very helpful to your grade.

He was helpful and wants you to do well in the class. Although, you have to work for your grade. Attendance is a must. He definitely helped me with my writing.

Great professor, make sure to pay attention and participate. No nonsense type of person. Textbooks are a must have. Do the homework and be very respectful. If he feels disrespected he will retaliate in a cunning way. If you're a "good student" he might bump you up from a B+ to an A.

He is overall a nice guy. Has a tendency to ramble on able nonsense. One test and 4 quizzes that are very straight forward. Not very lenient when grading essays

He rambles- true BUT this is an easy class. If you have a decent level of English this class could be summed up in a single lecture. He repeatedly points out the parts of the essay he wants people to work on e.g. thesis, topic sentences. He respects hard work; pay attention, do the HW and improve over the semester; that is how you'll get an A.

This guy has a plethora of information. He will relate the subject of conversation to many other tangents (he will talk about pop culture, movies, cultures, places in the world, etc, all slightly related to the thing you are reading) He does go on and on, and he does get side tracked, and additionally he does rant about students not paying attenti

Professor Hertz is a great teacher. He is always there to help you, but he will make you work hard for your grade. Do not afraid to ask questions because his answers are very helpful. Read his lectures and emails carefully and you will succeed in his class.

Professor Hertz rambles a lot, but a lot of what he says is valuable information that you are able to add on to your essay(approximately 1 every two weeks).

I never rate professors nor do I really browse this site often, but Uri Hertz has been such a great professor! It shows that he cares about his students and is there to help you along the way. There is a lot of reading, and discussion post that consist of rather difficult questions, but if you read them several times you should do just fine!

Professor Hertz was a great professor and I'm glad I took him. His class definitely made me a stronger writer and he truly made the effort to connect with students in class. Yes, he is a critical grader so don't come into class assuming that it's going to be an easy A with no effort required. Come to class and do the assignments and you'll be fine.

I loved Professor Hertz. He had all the reading materials on canvas so you didn't need to buy anything. He would give us feedback live in class and was super chill. Let you submit assignments a little late saying that he doesn't know what goes on in our personal lives. The only thing I would say is please show up to the class meetings.

Professor Hertz is someone who is really understanding and does not take off points for late work, just wants you get work turned in. Responds quickly to emails. It's mostly easy discussion questions and then he asks you to submit an into paragraph outline which it really to your benefit so that you can get a higher score on the real essay.

Mandatory zoom meetings, requires face on camera. Appreciates participation, hates talking to himself. Discussion prompts help when writing essays. Many of us struggled with crystal clear expectations to achieve the highest grade on essays. He is lenient with deadlines. He is a good professor, but I can see how some students could be turned off.

Yes he does go on zoom and yap, it's boring (like any other ENG 1), and he makes you turn camera on. But, I have never met another professor that let me turn in my essay (worth 100 points) for FULL credit almost 3 weeks late with NO personal excuse. He accepts late work for full credit. If you talk to him, he cares about students. Just do the work.

Professor Hertz has a unique teaching style - he can be critical but pushes students to improve their writing. Attend class, do the work, and you'll learn a lot. Unstuck study was a great study tool to supplement the course materials.

Took this class to finish my general education credits, but learned a lot in the process. He's a tough grader, but as a result my essay writing skills have gotten much better in the process. Super passionate about his subject, sometimes a little repetitive, but it is thorough.
