Very hard class. VERY boring. you are allowed 1 lateness all year. if youre late after that, she will not let you into the room. Starts class on the dot and takes it to the very last second. enjoys failing people. expect to know EVERYTHING for midterm
This woman should have retired LONG ago! she becomes extremely angry if you want to go to the bathroom. Locks you out of the class if you are late more than once. Very tough grader and makes what should be an enjoyable class unbearable.DO NOT take her!!!
Only 3 ppl got an A on the midterm, more than 10 got below 30-and there was no curve. This teacher seems to enjoy telling her students as little information as possible, and her midterm was dated 1972. It is definetly time for her to retire.
She is older than the entire cast of Golden Girls put together. She probably knows so much about Zeus because she dated him back in high school. Plato himself couldn't pass her midterm. If your late once your punished like Hades in the underworld. The End

Prof. Ursula Schoenheim is a detriment to QC. She frequently yells at the students, tells us that we're the worst class she has ever had. One of the primary reasons I came to QC was to learn Latin. She seriously needs to be gotten rid of!
The craziest teacher in QC. Dont ever try going to the bathroom and never be late for her class no matter what. Never take her.

If you have discipline and a lot of free time, go ahead, take her class. But, she does expect a lot: term paper (average 8-12pgs), a lot of reading, and details on the tests (the midterm and final). Hard grader, no leaving classroom, no lates or tardies
liked to see that the majority of the class left after the midterm enjoys failing students if u need to take test with special services wont allow it she fails everyone who takes the class what she has tenure so they cant fire her which is a shame-witch

One of the hardest professors I've ever taken, but she doesn't hide that fact. She lets you know what to expect the first day of class, and holds the midterm early enough that you can drop the class if you don't like the grade. Excellent teacher.

She does not gives students a clear understanding of the material. Her exams are much too difficult and half the class ends up failing.
She is horrible and old. Her speech sometimes slurred and she snapped at you if you ask her to repeat again. Her exams are very hard and she loves to ask tough questions. Take her only if you wants to lower your GPA.

Had her in 1989 and she was horrible and ancient back then. Exams were tricky and impossible. Lectures rambled on endlessly. Loads of facts in no meaningful order Genuinely nasty and unpleasant. Made optional reading required at last minute.

Contrary to what people say, her tests are -not- that hard, if you go to class, pay attention, take notes and study them. She's very ****y, though; hates if people are late, leave early, or leave during class. Her accent can sometimes be a problem.
she's a ****. She gave me 5 absences and counted them before I transfered to her class. How can I get absences if I didn't even transfer to your class yet??? So she told me I have no chance of passing. Don't take this class. It will lower your gpa and waste your money. This person needs to retire.
Her exams aren't difficult: she's just finicky, that's all. Having said that, though, be warned: there's a ton of material to cover, and she tends to go too fast. You have to be prepared to SLOG if you want a decent grade from her. Otherwise a refreshing change from dull-as-dirt professors.

Unfair,ridicilous lengthy exams quotes that we never read on the test and then we were supposed to figure out what it refered to. Treated many students in a most rude manner. I love mythology and have a high GPA but only got a C b/c she takes off points for every little thing. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
Schoenheim gives teaching a good name, in that, she takes her classes seriously (which is lacking in many teachers today.) However, her lectures are irrelevant to her exams and assignments. You must read for her class, but there is little learning unless you're already well-versed in this stuff. BAD

i loved mythology, have a high gpa and expected an A, but she was rude & unreasonable. lectures were irrelevent to exams, midterm paper graded with no clear standards. she has no common courtesy and seems to relish embarrassing students. Went to the first few classes thinking it would be fun,then withdrew. HW's generally weren't bad, but Schoenheim could be intimidating. Make a small mistake and she will likely not be pleased. I love learning language, but it got to the point where I felt I was wasting time. Over 1/2 the class droopped out. Good luck w/ her if you take her class.

The only language course at QC that should be billed as a home study course. She basically insults you and then tells you to go home and read the book. She says "I can't help you there" for almost everything. Feh.

Although I dropped the class because I had to, I didn't think she was so bad. She's actually nice, and she's not a witch. She wants you to work everyday, but she's not scary. I felt sorry for her. There were only 3 people in the class, with me 4. She's not so mean. She wants to help. So if you start with latin 101, you'll like her.
VILE WITCH! AVOID AT ALL COST! I stuck w/her for the FULL semester, not part, to watch her humiliate us & be continually condascending. Quotes on midterm + final were unbelievably obscure, so much so that only one INTIMATELY familiar w/the subject could hope to even pass; reading + studying won't suffice. Worst professor I have ever experienced in my college years, I cant believe how unbelievablely closeminded and stuburn she is. About half the class withdrawls after the first test, a third of the remaining students fail, and the rest get D's. Everything everyone wrote about her is true, do anything to avoid taking her, she should be fired.

This professor (term must be used liberally to apply) managed to make me reconsider my decision to return to college after taking years off. I completed the work, was absent once, introduced myself as an individual to her- after all of which she told me to"avoid undue brevity"and drop the course after failing a RIDICULOUS test. I'm not surprised by the harsh comments that many students posted, however, Professor Schoenheim is a "true" professor. If more educators adopted her teaching style, the American education system would not be in such a state of disrepair. I encourage students to take one of her classes if they are dedicated to learning and not just memorization.

63 on the first midterm - she said "that is a very good grade for my class" - i asked should I drop - she said "no your doing fine". I got a B+ on the paper. The semester i took her i received three A's and a B-, but she gave me a D+. She has been there since the 50's so tenure precedes all complaints. Hers is only cl150 at qc and not offered else

1st. test - 80% of the class got failing grades. I'm dropping the class and I don't think that I'm the only one.
Honestly, I have to say, most of the comments are from people without good work ethic. She expects work from her students-don't just cram a couple of nights before the exams, really read the stuff and think about it! Don't just dry read and expect her to give answers, know the stuff. There should be more of her kind of professors.

Extremely difficult. The class counts as 2 different credits but only take this class if you want to knock out 2 credits at once. No one in my class got an A. I got a C+ with an excessive amount of work

This professor is a joke. She literally locks the door as soon as the clock hits the time class is to begin. I know I am in the minority but I thoroughly enjoyed Prof. Shoenheim's class. She is the rare teacher who expects students to actually learn by doing the readings, thinking about and discussing them. This is not the professor for your typical college student who is looking to coast by or to be told how smart they are for doing 8th grade work.
I can't believe that she is still teaching. I had her 2 years ago. We submitted a coplain against her, and some students before that did it, and she is still teaching. Regards to QC administration.

I think the problem with Shoenheim is that she wants the student to love the subject like she does,but unfortunately we are still students in the system with other subjects to attend to. I did whatever she wanted, I read, analyzed, and discussed and I still walked away with a C (my first).I don't know what to make of her except that she's a HATER.
I had Prof. Schoenheim as an intructor in Latin in 1967. It was a terrible experience then, and it is interesting to see that she has not changed. I had thought of being a Latin major at QC until I encountered her. It's sad they keep her around.
I think she is well intentioned, if you show interest. But, overall, this is a socially awkward, outdated (off the wall) academic who should have been put out to pasture 20 years ago. When the high score on a mid-term is a 64, the teacher is suspect. I have a 3.9 gpa, but had to drop her class. Not worth a potential F. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know what everybody is complaining about. Schoenheim has a fantastic sense of humor, and is hot as Hell. If you want to learn Latin (and who wouldn't?) she's the man for the job

As a person, she isn't bad. She really does want her students to do well and it pains her when they don't. But, she's unbelievably difficult and she does play favorites. She expects you to know absolutely everything, even in a 101 class. If you ask for help, she says she cannot help you. Avoid at all costs.

This was undoubtedly one of the worst teachers (if you could call her a "teacher" that I've ever had in my entire life. She is too tough of a grader and expects you to know every thing to the last detail. She'll slash points off your midterm and final, if you spell any names wrong. Don't take her class unless you literally have no life!
Take pride in humiliating you in class followed by her favorite statement "i'm not trying to embarrass you" and her exams are dated from the 1970s and because the students back then didn't work to pay high tuition or take 18 credits because it's cheaper in the long run that way she expects you to put in time you don't have and get the same grades.
She is the best professor I've ever taken. Too bad a bunch of pathetic do-nothings have ruined her reputation at the college. She is a gem of a woman and the resource of her brain is something every student should acquaint themselves with. If we had more professors like this the world would be a better place. The material is very interesting, but if you don't want to work for your grade, drop the class. She'll tell you to herself. Shes actually a pretty nice person if u follow the rules. Difficult but keeps you engaged, which is how a real prof should be, in my experience. I remember a couple of (till then) 4.0 students who seemed on the verge of tears when they realized they were failing. Goes to show that a 4.0 is hardly an accomplishment in these days of grade inflation and not-very-demanding profs. She is an exception.
Ursula Schoenheim is one of the best professors at Queens. She is demanding but fair. You know what a liberal arts education is supposed to be when you take her course. But be prepared to work hard. Becoming educated is a struggle.

She is old-school and a rarity. She is tough, but she is fair. I had her long ago for many classes, including Mythology. If she doesn't know the answer to a question, you can bank on her researching it until she does and will get back to you with it. She has high expectations of herself and of her students. Gee, isn't that terrible!
She'll be missed so much at Queens. She added true quality to the department and was expert in helping students write literate papers. She knew when you'd done thorough research, and your grade would reflect it. Old school? To be sure. And her students were grateful for it!
