If you're retaking this course, I recommend taking it with her. For some reason, it was just easier in her class. Test questions from past worksheets/quizzes. HW easy and online. Speaks in a monotoned voice - can be annoying to some. Was not strict on attendance. Rarely touched the book
Great professor. Aside from the way she speaks to students like elementary kids, she does a great job teaching mathematical concepts. The quizzes and midterms are extremely easy and the only time you would need the textbook is if you missed a day of class and needed to catch up. Aside from that, you literally learn everything the day of.
my second time taking a math class with her(different levels) and the best math teacher ive had
She's a great teacher. Teaches all the concepts very thoroughly and she's very clear. Test and quizzes are too hard if you study and know the material.
it was hard to stay in her class her voice is so monotone it makes you fall asleep. Her test are hard so study!
Got an A. homework online and grades it but that's the easy points just do it got the right answers and get the points.Turn hw in every week and not much hw its fair amount. quizzes and tests are basic questions sometimes questions from hw or notes.don't need book but its helpful always recommend to book a math book not unless you are rally smart.
She is a great teacher. Se explains everything so well and she will stop if you have any questions. Homework is not too much you just gotta keep up with it. This is part of the MPS program so we do meet 4 times a week for 2 hours...it's not that bad because she's not boring.
Usha is an okay teacher, lectures R helpful notes and examples are somewhat helpful and prepare you for the quizzes(easy), BUT NOT THE EXAMS! Exams are nothing like the quizzes and are long and difficult!!She drops the lowest quiz which doesn't even help since the quizzes are way easier!Half the class dropped... I DO NOT RECOMMEND HER!!!THERE IS HW
Agreed, her tests are very long and the difficulty level is nothing compared to what we have learned in our notes/examples. She is a nice teacher, but it doesn't really seem like she takes interest in her students. There is webassign hw, and we have 6 quizzes (she drops the lowest grade, but does not drop any of the 3 exams worth 100pts each)
Professor Usha is a pretty good professor. She entertains questions. Doing the home work is enough to get an A in any of her tests. Very prompt in returning tests. Answers questions from emails quickly
Her class was ridiculously easy and she explains the material really well. The quizzes are from the HW. For the exams, you would want to prepare a little bit more harder problems than the quizzes and look over the note problems. Besides from that, this class is very chill. I aced my way through everything. Best 1A teacher out there
She is very understandable and clear. If u r not good at math, take her cause she teaches it really slow and step by step. Nice teacher overall. The quiz and exam is the same as hw(hw is not so much. around 40 questions a week)
She was very confusing. She'd start explaining one way then move on to another halfway through then go back to the original way before finishing. She didn't listen to student concerns. If I hadn't had help outside of the class, I'd have never passed. She did not prepare us formath 212.
She's a young teacher that I think got noticeably better as the quarter progressed. Very straight forward and clear. Just study more for exams than quizzes (time might be an issue, but once you get used to her tests, its nothing) and you'll be fine. If you can do the HW problems, you can ace her tests. I would take her for 1B-1D if I could!
Nice lady, but I desisre to use notes. She does not allow notes, which I think is wrong, since she is covering MPS Math. A math program for people who have failed or just fear it! I think she could be more flexible. The problem I found is her test don't corrolate with her quiz. I would recommend her for those who do not require notes.
Very good teacher! If you can do well on the homework problems and quizzes you can do well on the tests.
My favorite math professor at De Anza, had her for 1A and 1B. This was her first time teaching 1B and I thought she did really well. Her teaching style is very organized and planned - you print off her notes (definitions, theorems) and add to them in-class. Her tests are straightforward as long as you study (and you have to in calculus). Take her!
She is literally one of the best professors I have ever taken! I like her approach to teaching - She does not throw any curveballs and instead focuses on helping us gain mastery of the concepts. Tests and quizzes are very manageable as long as you DO the homework. Attend class because her notes will help prepare you!
She is a very nice professor, lectures are crystal clear, laid back and easy to follow. To get an A, just make sure you understand all the quizzes and homework material
One of the best math professors I had. She is really straight forward on what she expects on test especially if you done most of her homework and paid attention to her lecture.
have to teach yourself with webassign because her lectures are pretty much as helpful as reading from the book without practicing
Great teacher , will answer any questions you have during lectures, will help you understand material. Great math teacher one of the best I've had.
Great math teacher. Super clear and the tests weren't too difficult. As long as you do the homework and listen to the lectures you should be able to get a good grade.
Usha was a really nice teacher and she helped out a lot. Her lectures can get a little long and boring sometimes but she's very clear with her teaching. Her tests were pretty easy as long as you do the homework on webassign.
Great. You can get her lecture notes for the entire class for cheap (around $13 last i remember) and you don't need a book. WebAssign is needed though. Odd that people complain about her voice being monotone. Are you in class to learn or be entertained? She lets you know what you need to do get an A. The rest is up to you. Also, she's pretty cute.
One of the best calculus teacher at De Anza. Her teaching is very clear and easy to understand. Her tests are not tricky and you will do well if you pay attention in class and do Hw. She replaces final score with a lower exam score. A lot of students want to take her again but she doesn't teacher higher than 1A currently. Take her. You will pass.
She gave way too much homework. Like literally too much. In high school I never got that much and she gives so much you dont even want to do it. She gives you a week but still its ridiculous. Dont take her. Sweet lady but honestly dont take her. Yuck.
Ill keep it short. Good professor takes a hand, opens a mind and touches a heart. Thank you usha youve learned me how to be good when it comes to math. Ill never forget you. Thankssss a million thank you thank you
Amazing professor. Her lectures are crystal clear and clears up any doubts for you if you ask them. She helps you as much as she is able to. She offered to help me with my math placement test when I told her about it and was extremely helpful. Her teaching style would be excellent and I would prefer someone like her to teach Calc.
No extra credit If you do not good on one exam, you will far away from the A
Long and hard tests, she cancelled replacing lowest test score with final score to make it almost not possible to get an A once you didn't do well in one of the tests. No extra credit, easily to fall into B range of grade. Be careful when you selecting from now on.
Professor taught very well and also tried her best to help students in every way even though the class size was large. Despite waking up early in the morning to attend this class, she created a good atmosphere in the class that made me feel comfortable. Overall, it was a great experience with her.
Over all shes a decent professor. Lecture is easy to understand. No textbook. Buying her note in the bookstore is optional but recommended. It will help you a lot following her lecture and review for quizzes and test later on. Hw on webassign. Test a bit tougher than quiz. Make sure you go over her examples and hw then youll be ok with tests.
She's a very nice teacher, but she's a bit too easy going which made me not want to work hard. She makes mistakes sometimes while grading your quiz/tests, so always double check. She is really helpful if you need any help and lets you bring your quiz/test home as well. Just do the hw, ask when you don't understand it.
Nice teacher, buy her notes and youll be okay for the rest of the quarter. however, there are no extra credits for the class.
Super duper nice math teacher, she explains things really clearly. Moreover, she sells the notes in bookstore for $17, so you don't have to write much during class. Attandence is not mandatory, if you miss class, you can just take picture of her notes. However, the final exam is harder than previous exams. NO EXTRA CREDIT.
Took her during Spring Quarter, she is really on time with her schedule. All exams are exactly like the study guide she gave. Quiz are from her notes. However, no study guide for final and it was pretty hard. No extra credit. She explains everything clearly and very lenient with the attandence.
Organize Class; Step by step approach.
Follows the syllabus. Everything is order. Get ready to learn.
She was pretty nice to the class, but this might be different for everyone, but its not an easy class, the homework is not difficult if you just follow up on the notes. And the quizzes you get every week were not hard either. But probs the exams were much more difficult. But you need ur own calc, to buy the hw online, and a math packet @ bookstore.
Usha is a good math teacher. Clear grading criteria. She posted all of her lectures for the week in advance so you could work ahead if you wanted. Held live lectures for questions on homework. Exams and homework all done online without any monitoring like some other professors that want your webcam on you the whole time like Lopez. Take her.
I took her over the summer for statistics and she's great. Very clear lectures that she posts in advance so you watch at your own speed. Everything is explained well and the homework/quizzes/tests are very similar to the notes. She also gives you a few tries for each question even on tests. I got 100% in the class.
One of my best math teachers! I expected Calc to be hard but her lectures are easy to follow! The homework is a bit tougher and some assignments might seem long but it'll honestly make the quizzes and tests SUPER easy! All have 5 attempts per answer (and hw) and her classwork is easy. Highly recommend! You can buy notes from the bookstore!
Just a weekly hw assignment and quiz. Three major tests, and one final. All work on webassign, and her prerecorded lectures were helpful. HW was identical to quizzes and tests. Easy A.
theres not much else i can say besides warning everybody that her voice will literally pierce your ears. good luck to anyone who takes her class and has to listen to her lecture about derivatives.
I took her class online. Bad at explaining concepts in her video lectures. However, it is easy to get a good grade in her class. I would recommend avoiding her, but it is not the worst.
Straightforward asynchronous class, so far my favorite and most organized Math professor at De Anza. Professor Ganeshalingam posts lectures ahead of time and has notes available. There are a few harder questions usually in some quizzes and on tests, but Webassign does a good job at explaining how to do those if you need an example. Recommended!
Professor Ganesh is AWESOME. I do not know why people seem so pressed about her lectures. Literally no one turned on their cameras on Zoom or asked questions, so why are y'all complaining?? No textbook use, but she integrates her own notes in the course. Best math professor at De Anza PERIODTTT.
Took her Math1A asynchronous class in Fall '20. Very clear and straightforward lectures, HW per week, which are a bit harder than quizzes and exams, but 5 tries for ALL (uses WebAssign), so as long as you listened to her lectures, it's an easy A. She compiles all the needed materials to her "notes" booklet, which is free. Overall, solid choice.
Prof Ganesh is an amazing stats professor. Her class is an easy A, but you also learn a lot which is nice because most easy A classes don't teach you anything. Her lectures are very clear, and her tests, quizzes, and assignments are all through WebAssign and have 2-5 tries. I'm halfway through the quarter and currently have 100 percent.
The lectures were easy to follow. Homework, quizzes, and tests were all on WebAssign which were really easy to use as well. Easy class and nice teacher overall.
Usha's lectures actually make sense! That's a real bonus especially with something like calculus. If you struggle in math, she is a good professor to take since you can ask questions during class time. Overall much less painful than I was expecting calculus to be.
Uses WebAssign for all HW and Tests, so you get multiple tries on each question and can easily get 100%. Sometimes HW can be long but are easy and tests are Easy. Final was cumulative for the entire quarter but are questions from prior assignments. She is very willing to help you during office hours. Really nice, caring professor.
straightforward class, weekly homework and quizzes, occasional exams but they are all pretty easy and the questions are just like the hw. very much an easy A
Very nice person and is willing to schedule a zoom meeting if you're struggling. Class is centered around homework through Web Assign and the occasional test or quiz, which usually mimics the homework in structure.
Great professor. Straightforward lectures and super easy to understand. The homework takes a little bit of time but this class shouldn't give you any problems. Some theory is hard to understand but the lectures should straighten them all out for you.
She is a very sweet and kind professor. You get 5 Exams as well as 10 quizzes and 10 homework assignments through WebAssign. The class wasn't too difficult although math is an inherently difficult subject. She also gives very good lectures and a notetaking guide to go along with the lectures. An overall very solid choice for a professor.
If you're a self learner, take this class. Lecture heavy class that is entirely asynchronous. 10 Homework assignments, 6 quizzes, 3 midterms, 1 final. Everything done on WebAssign, multiple attempts for each problem, 5 for open answer, 2 for multiple choice, even on final. Watch the lectures and follow the class notes, and you'll get a A+. True gem
Professor Ganeshalingam was a pretty good professor. I liked her lectures as they went over exactly what we needed to know for the homework, quizzes, and exams. She responded to my emails fairly quickly as well. The homework was not hard at all and the quizzes and exams were just like the homework, and she gave ample time to complete them. :) :) :)
Take Ganeshalingham if you want an easy A. All the homework, quizzes, and exams were on WebAssign. There was 1 homework/week, 1 quiz every 2 weeks, and 1 exam every 3-4 weeks. If you want an A with the least amount of effort, just watch the short videos below each HW problem on WebAssign and use YouTube videos to fill in the gaps.
a great prof! her class is async and her canvas is really organized so you're able to see what needs to be done every week/get ahead if you need to! uses web assign (you must pay for this) but the homework and tests are really easy. very very manageable workload, please take her if you can!
I always struggled with math but she has made it so easy. Her lectures are simple enough that I won't be struggling and using WebAssign allows me to watch other videos related to problems for help. She has homework and a quiz due once a week and the occasional exam, but her class is very manageable.
Her lectures weren't so good for me. I relied more on youtube to teach me than she did. The tests weren't hard and the homework was pretty easy too. She gives multiple tries on the tests and homework so it's an easy class because of that. Spend 15 minutes productively studying for this class each day and you'll likely be fine.
Professor Ganesh's class was easy to pass. Everything is done through Webassign which allows you multiple attempts in homework, quizzes and exams. Her lectures are fast and I had to teach myself through Youtube but this was the first math class ever where I managed to pass with an A.
She is a great teacher and explains the topics well in her lecture videos. Everything is organized and easy to follow, and every assignment and quiz is done on webassign. Her tests and quizzes are timed, but she gives a lot of time to solve everything. Wish she would interact with us more but if you want a good grade take her.
Her class was fairly easy, since she mostly taught using prepared notes and gave examples. Most of your grade will be based on the tests and exams, which are mostly based on the exam reviews and homework. Just do the homework and study, and you should come out okay.
I hate math but her class makes me think otherwise! At first I was really scared to take her class, but when I started to listen to her lectures, she makes statistics easy. She is also very easy to approach and is patient. Don't worry about the quizzes and the exams because it will be the same as the home works. Also, attendance is not mandatory.
Prof. Ganeshalingam made me realize my love for math. Her teaching was so clear and helpful, even in the online setting, that I never felt behind. If I was confused, I felt comfortable coming to office hours. She is wonderful to talk to and very willing to help. I got a 100% in her class and she wrote my college rec letter! Thanks Usha!!!
Usha is an amazing professor. Not only is she extremely patient with her students, but she is very clear on everything she has taught. Her notes and classwork are exactly like the homework, and she will go over any problem if you do not understand it.
Professor Ganeshalingam's course structure is very organized and easy to follow. She goes step by step for each problem and goes back if we don't understand. Everything is done entirely online through WebAssign, but she allows many attempts for each problem. She also responds quickly in the inbox and provides feedback on assignments!
Superrrr easy class!! The exams and quizzes are exactly like the homework so it's super easy and predictable! Highly recommend her if you need to take the class just to fulfill a requirement!
Professor Ganesh was probably the best calculus teacher I have ever taken :) her lecture videos are pretty long but she goes section by section with you and encourages you to fill out the notes packet that is bought with the course. Relies a lot on Web Assign (all the hw/tests/exams are taken on it)
She was a great professor. She is a model for all of the professors at the level of College. Her lecture is great and she grades fairly. Although during the lecture, there were some disturbing noises like the sound of a man or someone trying to dribble the ball. That noise was also very loud. Except that, everything was perfect.
taken for MATH 31 as well and i love her teaching, i'm the person that likes to either be fully in person or completely async. for math and she's the best math prof i've had. lecture videos are like 30min long max and are easy to follow along. hw and exams are manageable (uses webassign) and have multiple tries, printed lecture notes are $14
easy A class. I didnt even need to watch her lecture. but I also wanted to enjoy math class. her lecture wasn't enjoyable or helpful. Kinda disappointed but anyway I got A+. I dont think her class will help future math classes.
Her lectures are very helpful and straightforward. Quizzes and tests both have problems directly from the homework, and the workload is manageable. I would love to take her again!
I loved taking Professor Ganeshalingam's class! She has a course notes packet for class. Lectures are very informative and easy to follow. She answers all questions thoroughly until you understand them. During class, you take notes and do examples in your packet. The notes are exactly like HW, quizzes and exams. HW, quizzes and exams are online.
I graduated with a D in Mathematics in HS and I passed her class with an A*. She is very kind and caring and her lectures are very simple to follow. Review the lectures before the class and try to do the problems on your own. Then during class time you could ask her questions to make efficient use of her time and get help from the MPS tutors.
Professor Ganeshalingam explains every detail. She goes through all examples and she covers all materials in a way the students understands. If the problem is hard and challenging, she would explain it with extra details and makes it easy to understand. She doesn't make mistakes and when she does she fixes it immediately.
I dont recommend taking this in the summer (6 weeks) unless you already have a calculus background b/c lectures arent helpful. Lectures are separated in chunks so it's not overwhelming. 2 hw + 2 quizzes every week and you get 5 tries for every problem. All of the answers are online as well. Take it if you need an A but don't expect to learn a lot.
For the summer course, I think there were 2-3 lectures a day? This professor's notes are really helpful and make this class as easy as a non-stem one! Everything is graded on WebAssign (open note, open book, no online proctoring). EZPZ class, but only if you stay on top of the schedule!!!
best math prof in de anza
10000% TAKE HER. Graded on exams/hw/quizzes/labs. hw/quizzes/exams/final were on web assign, 5 attempts for all questions EVEN FOR FINAL. Labs are super ez, and if u stuck, ask her during office hours. VERY ORGANIZED, ALWAYS AVAILABLE. didn't even need to yt any topic, she nailed them all. Took her async, spent 1 day/wk (2-3 hrs). LIGHT WORK BRUUU
Make sure you keep upto date with the homework, and quizzes test etc bc it will kill ya. Overall she is a really easy teacher!! She offers help in her office hours, you spend low amounts of time on the hw per week and overall it was a really chill class. A TI84 calculator is your best friend, so keep that in mind. Would take again!
All homework/quizzes(timed) on Cengage. Long lectures but explains problems in good detail. Provides pdf Math notes to print out. Keep all your notes organized, you will need them for tests. Final is straight forward, about 2 problems each of every chapter. Can partner with labs. Doable A but need to put in work.
As long as you follow along in class, you can ace tests using only the notes that you took in class. Homework is based on in-class notes, tests are based on homework. There are no surprises when it comes to course material. You get multiple chances on HW and tests as well.
The class was easy! skipped a bunch of lecture videos and did just fine. 1 homework assignment every week, 1 quiz every week, 1 exam every 2-3 weeks, and labs here and there nothing is overly difficult, and she's super easy to reach! taking her again next quarter. (Uses webassign $40)
Professor Ganesh is an alright professor. Her lectures moved incredibly slowly, which is a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. If you're good at teaching yourself I recommend reading the section before class so you can do the classwork, and doing homework during lecture if it's online. Fair-ish grading, but hit or miss feedback
I took Math 32 and Prof Usha is the best in explaining the concepts in easy way. Graphs of Trigonometric functions is important. they will appear in quiz, exam and final exams. So master the Graphs well. Classwork in every class and graded one. Best professor to learn the things in easy way. Homework must Clear grading criteria. Highly recommended.
I took Math10 and Prof Usha is the best in explaining the concepts in easy way. All the lectures are well explained.T184 calculator is must for this course. Best professor to learn the things in easy way. Homework must be completed to get good score in quiz and tests. Easily accessible in office hrs.Clear grading criteria. Highly recommended.Caring
Not that good at math but I received a 95% s the end of the quarter. There are lots of assignments and no extra credit but overall a great professor.Would take again.
She teaches really well and is very understanding when you need help with problems
Uses a 3rd party for the homework and quiz. She posts the lecture videos on her canvas. The weekly homework is usually 25-30 questions (it takes at least 2 hours to finish for me), and the quiz is usually 5 questions. The quiz is very easy as long as you keep up with the homework.
don't take her class. No cheatsheet in any exams. Though grading, hard to get credit.
I have the experience of take MATH 1A in person and is nothing compared with what people say it is online. No cheat sheets, sometimes the homework don't really prepare you for the test. The lecture feels empty and not really going to the important points. No extra credit so if you fail a test there no possibility for you to recover. Test are hard
DON'T take her in person class. Only 5 attempts for each question in web assign hw, you CANNOT make up your grade if you get low grade in exams and hw. NO extra credit. 3 exams and 1 final, NO cheatsheet in exams, and exams are harder than her lecture's examples. NO detailed explain in review exam sheets, ONLY answers of these questions.
Don't take in-person unless you want GPA tanked.
I took this asynchronous course over the summer and it was one of the easiest classes ever. Homework and quizzes/exams are very similar to the problems she goes over in her lecture videos. She teaches you how to use your calculator, so if you pay attention to her videos, it's an easy A!
I took her online and she's an amazing prof. She is really patient and explains clearly.
Professor Usha made math understandable and easy. I took a asynchronous class and was a bit worried if the lectures would be enough to help me grasp math concepts but to be honest she was one of the best math professors I've ever had. So much so i plan to take every math class I have left with her if possible.
Must pay $40 to do the homework, quizzes, and exams. Easiest math class. Just take noted on how to put the problem into a calculator. Very clear in syllabus how everything is graded. Lectures are much better than the textbook, had them on 2x speed.
The lectures can feel dry, but the homework is manageable if you stay on top of it. Definitely use Unstuck study and the free textbook to supplement the class. With some effort, you can do well.
The final is in person despite the listing saying the class was asynchronous. Very misleading.
The teacher didn't respond to questions or give much feedback, which made it hard to know if we were on the right track. On top of that, having an in-person final doesn't really make sense when everything else is online. Don't take if you don't have a solid background in calc
all the two reviews before this one are fake. Easiest class ever + final is in person. The professor is also super nice and kind.
awsome professor
DO NOT TAKE HER. EVERRRRR. There are quizzes EVERY week and Exam every 2/3 weeks. The quizzes/exam are not open notes and the questions are harder than the homework. Also, there are homework at WebAssign every week, with 30 questions each. Tons and tons of materials. If you want good grades, do not take her. She is super strict.
A pretty good teacher. Idk why people say shes bad. the quizzes are exactly like the lecture notes she just changes the numbers and we have a exam review for each exam which is pretty identical to the exam. Shes very patient with questions and makes sure everyone gets it. Just pay attention during lecture and you'll be fine
The Professor replies to emails and teaches really well, she does quizzes and exams back to back sometimes though, but as long as you listen to her in class you can easily do well in them. She doesn't allow cheat sheet in the exams or the finals.
She does not care about your grade, homework is long and tedious, posts course notes but without any work completed on it. Quizzes every week. If math doesn't come easy to you, don't take her class. each exam (3)is worth 100 points, and the final is cumulative and worth 150 points, so your entire grade relies essentially on the exams and the final.
The professor didn't bother giving proper lectures. She only handed out pre-written quizzes with no real explanation. There was no real teaching or effort to help students understand the material. Do not take this class if you actually want to learn anything!!!!
The professor was rarely available to answer questions or provide help, which made it even harder to understand the material. If you're hoping for guidance or engagement, this is not the course for you.
I took her class during spring quarter. Everything was clear and easy to access on her Canvas page. Her video lectures are also very well paced and she provides a pdf of her notes for you to follow along which was incredibly helpful.
Explains everything very well! Explains how to put everything into calculator. Easy A if you don't fall behind. Lots of homework and quizzes.
I'm not sure if she just cant be bothered to grade but all her homework, quizzes, exams everything even midterms, and finals are on web assign and you'll understand absolutely nothing. All these good reviews are kind of misleading :(
disappointing honestly
Lectures were very clear and slow-paced. The professor gave a good amount of online homework to complete. The quizzes would sometimes be challenging and had to be finished within twenty minutes, with very tough grading.
Decent Prof, gives a lot of homework that collides with quiz/exam days. If you follow her lecture properly you can do well in the tests. Gives 1 extra credit question at the end of quizzes. Homeworks are on web assign, honestly, the homeworks are sometimes misleading, doesn't even have anything to do with what she teaches. No cheat sheets.
I was on the edge of dying and she wouldnt accept my late work
easy class with solid online lectures, homework is very manageable.
