She is the sweetest teacher but she cant teach to save her life. I she always gets confussed even though she has already worked the problem out and she gets sidetracked alot. I would not recomend her if you need to actually learn the material.
She is really nice and she tries her best to teach but overall she gets confused and the class is very boring. You basically have to teach yourself the material.
She is very sweet and nice, and in my class she put up with alot of crap from some rowdy students. But she's not exactly the best math teacher. She tends to be confusing and hard to understand the way she solves problems. I only learned a little bit in her actual class. I had to spend alot of time teaching myself or in the math lab.
she was nice and really did try her best. but she was confusing and does not spek clear english. but she is really sweet. if you have a hard time understanding meth, then you do not need to take her!
She doesn't have a clue how to teach!!! VERY confusing. I'm not sure if she could even try to work problems without the Math department- provided PowerPoint.
Try to get out...
She is a very sweet lady, but she doesn't really know how to teach. She gets confused working problems which in return confuses you. I put my head phones on in class and taught myself because she was confusing. She is a sweet lady though, and she tries! "E" for effort.
Bless her heart. She tries really hard, but it's pretty difficult to understand her. It is difficult for her because she's teaching in a room of 200 people sitting at computers, but she speaks softly and it's hard to understand her accent in the first place. She's really sweet though.
easy class if you teach yourself
she is a very good teacher who cares a lot about her students. She sometimes is hard to understand, but she is tolerable. The class is not that hard
She is abosolutely horrible. Save yourself and never take this class. This is the LAST person that should be teaching elementary ed majors. She is seriously clueless about everything she says and grades only based on what her answer key says--she never thinks of any other answers. SAVE YOURSELF
She is not even a teacher for this class. SHe is terrible. She mis spells things on the board all the time! & when she grades tests she only takes the key into consideration when this class is so much more than that. She is not very considerate of your test grade and giving you points you deserve when tests are 20% of your grade. If you want to tak
She is very nice, but she doesnt know how to teach. Math 113 is an easy class so i finished with an A, but I had to teach myself.
She doesn't teach the material; you learn it all online and ask questions in class. It can be frustrating if you're not a math person naturally, but you can get around that. She'll help if you ask her questions, but MATH 110 doesn't give a lot of room for personalization of material through teachers.
Usha doesn't stress the importance of her class. She understands Math isn't everyone's thing. Attendance is only worth 3% of your grade, also do the homework and quizzes and make above a 70% and 3 hour lab attendance is not required. Easy A.
A little unclear at times because shes a foreigner and for me its kinda hard to understand but w/e you dont need to talk to her anyway. if you need help in the math lab there are always helpers ready. I hate math but this class is extremely easy and you dont need a book so DONT WASTE MONEY! In this course the teacher really doesn't matter.
She's really nice, but I didn't really learn anything from her teaching. I think she means well, but I had to teach myself everything in her class.
What an awful teacher. She does not know how to teach. Many people in her class are failing due to the fact that she herself can not solve some of the problems. I managed to get an A by doing all the work on my own, but she is useless. Avoid taking her class, because you wont learn anything, and you might not even make an A. Not worth it.
She's a fine teacher if you already have a good understanding of math. I wouldn't suggest her if you struggle, because she can be a little unclear at times and will mess up problems in class every so often.
bad teacher. not clear, not good at speaking english. gets her own problems wrong. its math 112 so its like your in the 7th grade again. if you can't do this class on your own yet you're stupid so you really don't need a teacher but this one is bad if you so happen to need one. don't take her.
She is so boring and hard to understand. Theres an attendance sheet and she calls roll at the end of class to make sure no one left early or signed someone else in! She is not helpful but the class is mostly online so you can teach yourself everything. The "teach me how" button in the math hw is really helpful.
Get another professor now. She speaks super slowly and with is incredibly monotone. Can't stand going to class with her.
I took this class in high school and had an A+ all year. I am currently sitting at around a mid D in this class. Her homeworks are due at random times so it is extremely easy to miss them. Watch what you type on tests because anything incorrect will make them wrong. By far the worst Math teacher I have ever had.
Professor Midkiff was a great professor if you already have a basic understanding of the subject. She explains every little step for each problem making it easy to understand (her accent isn't THAT bad. Only problem is knowing when hw is due.
She is honestly the worst teacher I have ever had. If you have her now, drop the course. She teaches horribly, wit frequent mistakes, and stresses information that ends up not being on tests. She is not helpful in any situation and I honestly don't know how she has a job at UA.
This class was pointless. I never took notes because you could learn everything you needed online (hw was online), but class was still mandatory.
She's not nearly as bad as everyone says she is. Just learn how to teach yourself everything from the online website. 112 is exactly like algebra 2/precalc so if you're okay with that I wouldn't even worry.
She was by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Yes, her accent is bad, but its not the worst I've heard. What makes her a bad teacher is her lack of ability to explain how to do the problems without messing up and to explain them in a way that is understandable. Do not take this teacher if you can help it.
Worst professor I've ever had.
She doesn't teach anything in class but tries. Impossible to understand. GET A DIFFERENT TEACHER
Overall, Midkiff is a subpar professor, but she really doesn't deserve all of the hate she gets. Sure, her explanations aren't that clear, but she is willing to help out if you're struggling. I will admit, though, that the matierial was mostly self-taught, and I only attended class about half the time.
Ok, MIdkiff is not great by any means but the comments on here are vastly exaggerated. She is actually a super sweet lady, so much so that me and my friends joke that if our grandmas were Indian, it would be her. I found that she actually over explained things a lot. There is also a lot of homework, but its do-able. Don't freak, you'll survive her.
Usha Midkiffs class consists of her working out a few examples that don't really help that much. However all of the homework and tests are done online so yes you may have to teach yourself. The key to passing the tests are doing the chapter review practice tests as many times as you can. I figured that out too late. If you skip your grade goes down
Taking the course online, you get out of it what you put into it. This course uses the Pearson lab material, including the Pearson lecture videos and homeworkquiztest problems. The instructor is very quick to extend deadlines whenever you have technical issues, and she was very quick to respond to communication. Definitely take it online.
Midkiff goes through each type of problem step by step during lectures, so if you take notes you'll be okay. She's kind of awkward and hard to understand at first. All of the homework and quizzes are online and the tests are online at the MTLC. I did not buy the textbook, just the online code (where you can see the book online if needed).
So many assignments. Tests are easy as long as you understood the homeworks and quizzes for that section. She doesn't help a bit in understanding the material. If you didn't take pre-cal in high school I would not recommend. Use this class as a refresher for Calc 1 in the next semester. Attendance is 4% of final grade.
I would say she is a horrible teacher but I really would not know since she does not teach AT ALL. The entire online course is done through labs yet she has deadlines every few days. Miss something? TOO BAD! If you are not teaching the class, why do you have deadlines every few days? She does NOT curve. She does not care.
Midkiff is not as bad as a lot of people say. She trys to teach so everyone will understand, but it's not like she asks if you individually understand it. She wants her students to pass. The final was curved.
Usha is the sweetest lady. Her lectures aren't particularly exciting, but math isn't the most exciting subject in the first place. Her accent isn't difficult to understand at all. She mispronounces the word "pythagorean" but other than that, she is very understandable. Buy the online code but not the physical textbook.
This class was very clearcut. Grading criteria is easy to understand. Don't bother buying the textbook, but make sure to do all your online quizzes and homework. I had no trouble with remembering the content after I finished the online segment. Three quizzes and homeworks are dropped and one test grade is replaced by the final.
Usha is very nice and she makes somewhat of an effort to keep your focus. She forbids laptop use during class so you cant do your homework during class. Her homework is lengthy and for a grade. The tests are short and fairly easy if you do the homework. If you listen to the lectures you will understand the material.
I took Midkiff's class online and it was easy for me. However, she assigns A LOT of homework every couple of days. I honestly have talked to her once over the course of the semester. It isn't even her in the lecture videos that are SUPPOSED to go with the homework. If you don't try in this class, then you won't do well. You have to teach yourself.
Mrs. Midkiff is super nice, but I can't understand a word she says for the life of me. You must go to class for attendance, which actually affects your grade a lot. Tons of hw. Tests are easy if you study. You will probably teach yourself most of the material.
The only bad thing I can say about her is her accent sometimes was confusing, but overall wasn't that bad. Tests are very similar to the quizzes and homework. Every math professor gives the same assignments so those are not in her control. Always willing to help and great lady. Would overall recommend.
Pros: Tests are super easy for anybody decent at math and EXACTLY like the pre-tests. Cons: Lots of homework, mandatory attendance. Overall, she is a good teacher and teaches the material efficiently. Posts notes online too
Great teacher who does her best to make sure everyone understands the material. She is very friendly and willing to help you if you just ask. She can be difficult to understand at times because of her accent, but she is typically very clear. She takes attendance, so definitely show up to class. Homework and quizzes are online. Tests are easy.
Professor Midkiff is a really sweet person, she is easy to approach and will be more than happy to clarify anything. But attendance does matter a lot as well as completing the homework. She relies on the course software more than anything, you can learn off of that more than her actual class. Most people just show up to class to get the points.
Midkiff is okay. She's a very nice lady and is very funny. She genuinely wants her students to learn, but she makes mistakes herself a lot of the time. The class itself is a joke, everything is graded on the online textbook and it is not hard material. Just show up to class, do the homework, and go to lab, and you'll be fine.
She's so funny and is an easy class to pass.
She is really nice and is always willing to help. There is a lot of homework for this class. She does not believe in getting out of class early. You are required to print out the notes for her class, but she will later post the filled in notes online. Test can be very challenging but if you do the homework and go to class you should be fine.
Miss Midkiff is really nice. She does rely heavily on the course software during class, but she's more than happy to help during her MTLC hours. I thought that she explained most concepts pretty well and will explain more if you need her to. Attendance is mandatory, so you have to sign in if you want credit. Be careful, she'll call roll at the end.
Midkiff is super easy. Basically taught myself from the online program she uses called Hawkes Learning. Homework due about twice a week, unlimited chances to get answers right. If you decide not to drop any of your 4 regular test grades you do not have to take the final.
Pretty easy class. Attendance is taken, for the math lab and also class time. Basically taught myself with the online software. The website is very helpful and easy to understand. Lots of things get dropped during the semester. Practice tests are similar to exams. Only had test, I did not take the final because my grade was good.
Very easy class, all the work will be online. The homework is also very easy, if you ever struggle, someone in the math lab will help you. Tests are based completely off the homework.
Midkiff is a nice woman but she does not teach well. Rarely do I attend class anymore, all the notes are online and I teach myself through the online homework. Basically an easy A if you are good at teaching yourself math. Wouldn't recommend her unless that's what you want to do.
Cannot explain the content well at all, just reads whats on the board and doesn't tell why. When she does explain- it is not clear. I dont think it is her fault- I just think thats the only way she knows how to teach
Professor Midkiff is a very very nice lady but going to her class is pointless except to be counted for attendance and to learn how to use specific equations in the calculator. You learn everything online and is basically self-taught. She is quick and helpful when replying to emails.
easy class, she relies heavily on the online course material. homework can be tedious at times.
Math 110 is a simple math course that does not require much math skills past simple algebra. I finished this course in a month and a half because all the homework and practice tests are online. The online textbook teaches you how to do everything, and lectures are unnecessary and boring. Professor Midkiff is very nice and approachable.
Midkiff was a good teacher but she went through the material very quickly. Thank God for WebAssign because that is the only way I did well because everything (homework, tests reviews, and tests) are online. And if you do your homework or reviews 24 hours before the deadline, you get 10% bonus. So in short, the class is boring but an easy A.
Midkiff was super nice throughout the semester but every time I attended her class I left super frustrated. She hit the basics of each section but she never got in-depth enough to be helpful on the hard stuff. Easy class if you can teach yourself but it's really pointless to actually attend her lectures.
Not at math person but an easy A! Some sections were a little frustrating but if you go to class and do the practice and certify assignments you will do great. Simply doing the assignments is 10% of your grade and the built in lab attendance is also graded, and you can do your graded work. Midkiff is super sweet and offers extra credit as well :)
I had already previously taken Calc so 115 was a breeze for me. I went to class once the entire semester and did well. Attendance isn't mandatory and thank god that it wasn't. If you do the homework ahead of time and feel confident on it, you don't have to go to class.
If you do the reviews and homework, you'll be fine. Do them 24 hours ahead for the extra 10%. Super easy, went to class like 3 times.
very easy. all notes posted online. as long as you do your homework and show up for lab you will get an A
I stopped going to this class in February. It was pointless because she posts all the notes and example problems online. The tests were the same thing as the example problems. Extremely easy.
Ms. Midkiff is really nice and wants her students to succeed. She can be difficult to understand sometimes and the material can be different from what is on the tests. The majority of work is done online and she will always ask if there are questions. She also stays behind class to help.
I love this Professor! She is so nice, and always answers my emails so fast. Her lectures are pretty easy, so if you miss some you will be fine. ATTEND LABS, and DO THE HOMEWORK and you will have an EASY A. She is awesome, always cracking jokes about game day. the sweetest professor I have had so far
Pretty easy class as long as you do the homework. Lectures are not mandatory, and I dont recommend going if you can watch the videos and learn the material on web assign. She takes a while to start class, and often mixes up problems and has to redo them. Shes not the nicest person either and makes fun of students who leave lectures early.
All assignments are online and you do not have to show up to class but if you do she is very boring. She is also a slow talker which can put you to sleep. Class is overall easy and if you finish work early you get bonus points.
Super easy class as long as you show up to learn what is going. She is super nice. All assignments are online and if you put the time to get an 100 you'll pass the class. Easy A.
Very nice and kind lady, but can be hard to understand sometimes and is not super great at explaining the material. I have had to teach myself a lot in this class.
Try and find another professor. She's hard to understand. I had a D after the first month of going to class and taking notes religiously. So I stopped going and taught myself. My grade went from the D to an A-. The homework is all online, you can earn bonus points by submitting it a day before it is due. The reviews are very similar to the tests.
By the end of the semester I was studying with my friends & we were teaching ourselves the material. I tried my best to go to class but sometimes I would go it would make everything more confusing. All the homework's are online as well as the tests. She isn't the best teacher and I would recommend taking another professor.
This class was pretty easy, lots of notes that can be accessed online after every lecture. Attendance was not mandatory, (except for labs) and going to class could make you more confused. Using the textbook and the filled out notes to teach yourself was the easiest option. Can receive extra credit if you do assignments early. Overall, fine class.
If you go to class and understand what you are doing its a really easy class. She can be hard to understand sometimes but I passed with a 98% because I took this class in high school. She is really nice and posts notes online.
As long as you do the homework and reviews 24 hours before they're due you can make a 110 and on every test you get a chance to get the questions you answered wrong right. Very easy A if you apply yourself just a little
Ms. Midkiff was overall a great teacher for Math 110. I am normally awful at math and was surprised to finish this math with an A. Attendance isnt mandatory since notes are posted online and I always taught myself. Overall easy math class
Show up for notes, but shes very slow. Super sweet, but class is so easy its kinda boring.
This was an incredibly easy class. She gives 10% extra credit on all homework assignments if you do them 24 hours before the due date. Tests are easy (two attempts for each question). I didn't really go to class much, just studied the notes she provided and got an A+. Although, she is not very good at answering questions that students have.
Midkiff is a great professor who will help you if you need it, but that doesn't mean the material won't be absolutely material. As someone who has always made decent grades in math, this course shook my own confidence in my math skills to the core. Always go to class to get the notes and you'll have the best chance at making a good grade.
Great professor who wants to help her student any way she can. Going to class and taking notes is the best way to ensure that you will come out with the grade that you want.
Usha is kind and a great prof to take. She speaks slow and sometimes the notes arent thorough because she doesnt have time to get through them. The 10% hw bonus helps a lot since the tests are the hardest I have ever taken.
Great teacher
She was always so nice. The class is extremely easy and there is always chances for extra credit!
She is a really nice person but basically, if you just show up to math and do your homework and know what you're doing it's an easy A. Her tests are exactly like her test reviews and at the end she drops an attendance, lowest homework and test review grade, and if you like your grade before the final you can drop the final has one test to drop.
While the subject matter of Business Calc is fairly difficult, Mrs. Midkiff always uploaded filled-in notes before the exam which was really helpful if you had missed a class since the homework is just like the notes covered in lecture. Also, I was almost to an A-, and she worked with me to get my grade where I wanted it.
I wouldnt Say the attendance is mandatory but you get a grade for it so the choice is yours. She is also very helpful and explains it in a way that youd understand
Very caring teacher and super good at communicating the topics to the students. Very helpful when learning one on one as well. Overall an amazing person and professor.
The class was fine, but I didn't ask for help much. I did the class on my own and made an A.
I really liked Professor Midkiff. You could tell she cares lots about her students and the final grades they received. If you had any questions , she would work through the problems as many times as needed.
Class was difficult but the teacher helped
Does not explain the problems, she just works it out and expects us to understand it right away. Hard to understand her, but class was very easy. Got an A by doing homework early for extra credit, and test are almost the same as the review guide.
I really struggle with math but did well in the class. This professor is sweet and really cares that you pass. If you just do all of the assignments on time and study the reviews for the tests you will pass (she posts detailed notes on every lesson that are helpful too).
She's a nice person and willing to help you outside of class, but that doesn't matter if you don't understand how she teaches. Iv'e always made an A+ in math classes, yet barely passing in hers. Gives extra credit for doing HW early. Tests are 12 questions IF that. Only take her if you know calculus by heart or good at teaching yourself calculus.
Super easy class! Posted the notes online and was quite possibly one of the nicest people I have ever met.
Don't be expecting an A, unless you already knew Calculus...
Worst teacher I've had. Following a bad grade on the first test approached the teacher on what could be done, was told to focus on next test. Does not teach anything in class, you will teach yourself everything then when you get to the test it is nothing like the review. Closed the door in my face as I was asking a question about my grade.
Not a great teacher
Usha is a great professor and is always there to help her students. If you pay attention and really think about the content instead of just copying notes then a good grade should not be any problem. In addition, many extra credit opportunities are given on homework. I would definitely take her classes again!
She gave great lectures!
It's an easy class at least for me and one can get an A without regular attendance.
Professor Midkiff had helpful lectures, but attendance was not required. Homework was 10 questions, due twice a week. The homework was online and easy to complete. Complete the hw early for bonus. After three incorrect attempts at each problem, a solution and explanation was provided. Tests were 12 questions and were similar to the review guide.
I am very biased because I took calc in hs but all the practice tests are the same problems as the real test so you just have to know those. You get 10% extra credit on all the assignments and you can do the in-class quizzes from your bed. If you do the homework and then only study the practice test you should get an easy A.
She got the funniest jokes. I swear she always making me laugh. One time she put up a picture of a car that crashed into a house and she said "oops i accidentally parked my car in the kitchen." I was dead but as a math professor she's pretty good sometimes hard to understand her process on problems so mostly you just be learning it on your own.
Her class is basically done completely online through WebAssign. Going to her lecture wasn't super helpful, she can be kind of confusing at times, but it was nice to see her actually work out the problems. Overall, a very nice teacher.
She is pretty good professor but seems like she is caught up in her own thoughts often in the lecture. She was very accessible for help and gave many crutches for grading. Nice person but just frustrating sometimes because we seem to waste a lot of time in the lecture on the non difficult, leaving no time for the challenging concepts.
I didn't pay attention in class much, but watching her work through the problems was a huge help when I needed it. She gives tons of extra credit (Doing the homework more than 24 hours before the due date gives an extra 10%), and you have unlimited attempts on them. Very nice teacher and always willing to help those who need it.
Honestly, she doesnt really teach. You need to teach yourself, which is pretty easy for the class, and webassign has a lot of educational videos. The test reviews are very similar to the test, which makes it easy. Our attendance is apart of our grade, so I recommend going to class, plus if you need help she is very accessible. Its an easy class.
Youll basically learn online. Attending class is 10% of your grade. Its an easy A, shes flexible. Tests and homework arent hard. You can honestly finish the whole class before the semesters up. She allows you to take tests early etc.
Midkiff is a super easy teacher. I basically taught myself the class. If you watch the videos and do all the homework's youre guaranteed to get an A. The test are really easy if you do the reviews. I highly recommend her as a Math 100-02 teacher.
She is a great teacher. If you ask her for help she explains it throughly. Attendance is part of the grade.
Super easy if you do your work
This class was insanely easy. Not really much to say about Midkiff as math 100 is pretty much an all online class, just taken in a math lab. She was helpful when I asked her questions, and she offered extra credit. This class is such an easy A- I would recommend her above others.
Professor Midkiff is nice and tries to make the class less boring. Overall its just what you would expect for any Calc 1 class. Grade is mainly tests. You get 110% on assignments if you finish them 24 hours in advance. You get 2 tries on every test. Also she has an app to track if you are in class, but if you turn location off it still works.
I would say she gets a bad rap for her accent, but overall she is a caring teacher. Every time I had an issue (in class or out of class) she was more than happy to help. I did find some of her teaching styles difficult in the learning process, but overall she was a good professor.
I WISH I COULD TAKE HER FOR EVERY MATH CLASS. MAKES ALL LECTURES AVAILABLE ONLINE so youre not screwed if you miss a class. Always in the MTLC and super helpful. Wonderful instructor
I had her for two semesters and ended up teaching myself both semesters. She doesn't explain concepts clearly at all. Most of the time she gives you a formula and says "it works because to does" and moves on. I understand 115 is an accelerated course but she only made it harder. If I could rate a 0 I would.
Very helpful with explaining example problems
Really liked professor Midkiff, she was willing to help in office hours and communicated with the class really well about when she was in the math lab. I got an A very easily in this class but I always attended lectures. She works slowly and answers questions and she records every class to post online. I would definitely take Midkiff for math 115
She was very helpful with anything I needed, you can get unlimited extensions for late homeworks, you dont have to show up to pass but i would recommend it, she posts the lectures online as well, i had to retake math 115 and failed w my last teacher, and she was much better and explained things very well.
She just reads off of a prepared sheet. She goes through the problems which is nice, but she records her classes and posts them so you don't have to go to class even though she had a sign in sheet. She will do problems no one asks her too and sometimes wastes your time towards the end of class if she finishes early.
Fully online class with no lectures and a few videos. Handouts were provided with examples filled in. Office hours available if needed and email answered promptly. Course requires a LOT of SELF instruction/practice time. If you are willing to put in the effort, there is no reason you can't earn a passing grade. With bonuses , I ended with a 104 av.
Professor Midkiff was an amazing professor. If I emailed her a question she would always get back to me quickly. If you do the homework assignment 24 hrs in advance than you get 110 on the assignment. You also get 2 attempts on tests.
Professor Midkiff was readily available should you need assistance. The course was outlined perfectly with what was expected and ample information provided to ensure success in the course.
Do the homework early get extra credit!! The homework alone will boost your score so much. I am a finger counter worst math person ever and I got a B+ in finite math only doing the homework and taking tests never actually read the book.
I took precalc in high school, so this class was easier for me than those that hadn't previously had it. She teaches the long way of solving problems and sometimes seemed confused about her own work. It's not terribly hard to teach yourself though. Do homework early for the extra credit because it's a great grade boost!
Ms. Midkiff was a great professor. She is easily accessible for extra help as she often had hours in the math lab where she was available. As for the work, some concepts may require a bit of self studying but were otherwise not too tough. Extra credit is also awarded for doing the homework early, which is a massive help.
Literally the nicest teacher I've had, she seemed genuinely happy that I got a good grade on a test. Just do everything due for the week at one time, it'll only take like 3 hours max and gets it out of the way. Probably should teach yourself though as she is a bit hard to follow at times. Overall though 5/5
Overall, Midkiff is really nice and caring. However, sometimes some of my peers and I would find it difficult to learn from her lectures. She also did this thing on Fridays where she would not have class and would post a video lecture for you to watch and teach yourself. The class was not miserable, but I would not take it again.
She is such a caring lady. You can earn extra credit by doing homework early, which is a massive help. Although you may find her lectures a bit hard to follow at times, it's not to difficult to learn a few things on your own using the textbook and helpful videos through the homework.
I took 115 after already having Pre-Calc in high school, but Midkiffs lectures were typically decent. She responds to emails and sends out Bitmojis at the end of hers which was cute. You can earn 110% on all homework if you do it 24 hours in advance, which helps a lot. Tests are just like homework/test reviews.
I didn't get to know Professor Midkiff because my class was online. Her lectures were EXTREMELY helpful. If you watch them, you will be prepared for the homework/tests. If you complete the homework over 24 hours early you get a bonus 10%. I don't love math but this class was great.
Professor Midkiff was a great teacher and she obviously cared about her students.
She good
Now I took Cal 1 in high school, so most of the material covered was a review for me. That being said, Usha was really helpful for those that needed it. Example problems done in class are the exact same problems on the homework. You get two tries on each problem for the exam. Very sweet professor who always tries to find a way to make you smile.
I took Calc 1 in high school, but retook it again for an easy A. That said, Midkiff is a great professor. The test/hw are all assigned by the department, but Midkiff has great lectures. She's a little slow, but very thorough and will explain things like algebra and trig concepts in case you've forgotten them. Tests are easy if you do the homework.
She's honestly such a sweetheart. All of the tests are directly modeled after the homework, which btw, isn't hard. She takes a long time to explain each topic, but she's very thorough and wants to make sure everyone understands. If you ask her a question after class, she'll stay behind and go over the concept until you understand. Take her!
Professor Midkiff is very sweet, but her class wasn't the best. She makes all homework assignments due at 10 pm which is harder to manage than you'd imagine. The study guides she gives for tests were not helpful--I never knew what to expect. She always gives a lot of resources outside of class to help but it's likely you'll need to use them.
She is very nice and cares about her students. The content is hard but you get a drop test. she also gives an extra 10 percent on homework if you do it a day early. she posts the completed notes on blackboard everyday. She has a slight accent but is still easily understood.
The content in Math 115 is hard and there is homework every class which is 20 questions max. The tests are very difficult, especially the final, however, you are able to drop your lowest test score and your 3 lowest homework grades. She is nice and a pretty good teacher and she is always willing to help after class or at office hours.
She drops your lowest test grade and 3 lowest homework grades, and she gives an extra 10% credit on homework that is completed a day early. I know someone who had a different professor that started coming to our class because they liked the way she taught better. If you come to class, pay attention, and do the homework it's not too bad!
I took this class without any calculus experience, so everything we learned was new for me. Midkiff is a nice person, but she confuses herself while teaching. I often had to teach myself the lessons after class and go to tutoring to earn my grade. Calculus is already hard, but having Midkiff made it even harder. Wouldn't take her again.
I hated this class. The notes are very basic and she doesn't really explain the process but rather just talks through the things she writes without saying why or how
She covers one section each class with homework afterwards. If you do the homework 24 hours early, you get an extra 10%. Her lectures are awful and boring, and I had to teach most of the content to myself. However, she's very willing to help students after class. The work itself isn't too difficult and if you took precal in high school it's easy.
Usha Midkiff was a kind professor who genuinely cares about her students. Her lectures are sometimes not the most straightforward which can be difficult for math but she is quick to answer any questions you have. All her exams have a bonus question worked into it and if her study guides cover all the topics on the exams.
Maybe if I tried harder I would have succeeded in her class. Overall not everyone should be a teacher, especially in math. Clear steps need to be gone through when teaching a subject, she wasn't as effective for me, but i know people who did pass her class. Don't be too worried just practice and ask lots of questions.
I loved her so much! I was a bit worried about MATH125 after hearing some horror stories from others, but she presented it really straightforward and made the material easy to understand. She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to understand the material. Would def recommend her!
Let me preface this by saying I am terrible at math---it's always been the one class I struggle in. As far as teaching goes, I would say Professor Midkiff is pretty average. I went to her for help one time, though, and she is an incredibly sweet lady!
Calculus is hard in general, but harder if you don't have any experience with it. Professor Midkiff had good notes and was usually easy to follow in class. She answered any questions and seemed like she wanted to help. Not an easy class but this professor is fine. Just understand the homework problems and you'll do fine on the test.
Professor Midkiff is an amazing, caring, and knowledgeable professor. She had a clear syllabus and is easy to communicate with. She will drop your lowest test grade and 4 lowest homework assignments, and gives you 110% on homework assignments if you complete it 24 hours before it is due. You have to do work, but she will help you through it!
her lectures did not stand out to me but wasn't hard to understand the material. However, I took pre-calc in high school. there was no extra credit and attendance wasn't mandatory. homework were not bad but you have to really study for the tests.
class is hard and way too much homework. If you want to do good you need to spend a lot of time studying in this class.
Extremely nice.
Professor Midkiff was great for calc. The material can be hard but she does her best to teach it to us in an easy way. She engages the class and is very accessible outside of class if you need extra help. She also allows you to schedule time to go over past tests or homework questions. Overall for such a hard class, it was very straightforward.
Professor Midkiff is a good professor and I would take another one of her classes if I needed to. All of the homework assignments can get a 10% added if you complete them 24 hours before they are due (ONLY bonus opportunity). The four tests make up 50% of your grade and the Final Exam is 30%, so be sure to genuinely know the material.
I personally wouldn't recommend her class is so hard. She rushes to teach a course for the exams. She barely knows how to teach the course. DONT TAKE!!!
I took this class online, so I can't say much about her. I never watched her videos and just went off of what I remembered. I emailed her several times and she was never very responsive.
She was really nice. She offered extra credit on every single homework assignment and bonus questions on every single test. There is kind of a lot of homework but nothing to bad. If you do the test review and understand how to do every problem on it you will be prepared for the test.
Professor Midkiff does her best, but this course has lots of content to be taught in a short amount of time.
Midkiff provides great resources for help.
Midkiff is one of the nicest people in the Alabama math department. I found her lectures to be slow, but enjoyable to listen to. She definitely tries to make sure each student gets even the most basic steps. This course was difficult in its own way. She teaches the basics very well, but usually half of the homework is stuff you have to learn alone.
Overall, a really great and nice individual, but not the best teacher. Doesn't have the best structure to her class, at times it will be all over the place. Makes many mistakes in class and really doesn't teach. She basically just copies from her notes and tells you to follow along. The Math125 department is really not good overall.
Just copies her notes that she has already completed onto the screen, doesn't actually try to teach any material and doesn't really seem like she knows what she's talking about. I wouldn't choose her but i just prefer for my teachers to break it down and she just does it and doesn't tell you how or why.
Mrs. Usha is super kind and caring. Her lectures are somewhat slow but allows for students to really understand what she's talking about. The homework and tests are very similar to the in-class practice and there is a lot of extra credit.
She was very decent. Nothing really wrong with the way she teaches. Sometimes she would just copy her notes and not always explain, but overall, she was great! I would suggest her for 115.
her lectures were so boring, my grade was not a reflection of her ability to teach but she would never explain the homework. I am the type of learner who needs to understand what I am doing in order to do it well. She doesn't teach that way, so if you are like me, don't take this class with her.
Professor Midkiff is decent overall. The class has a lot of homework, but her tests can be challenging. Using Unstuckstudy along with the textbook helped me prepare effectively. Attendance is mandatory, so be sure to engage in class.
Ms. Midkiff's class was very easy, although a bit slow. You can skip the majority of classes and you will still be fine. She is caring and will answer all questions. Although, she isn't easily accessible outside class and doesn't reply to emails.
A lot of times I would have to go back to the notes when following the homework, but otherwise a good professor. She was very easy to access and makes sure students are aware of tutoring hours and chances to get help for tests outside of class.
This was an easy class just pay attention. She posts completed notes after each class. You get 10% extra credit on hw for turning in 24hr before due and you can turn them in late for 30% off. Reviews don't count towards grade. Tests are short and easy with a couple extra credit questions. Sometimes lessons get rushed but overall a good class.
If you don't go to class, you most likely won't do well. I had already taken this class in high school, so it was easy for me, but I saw many people skip class and then complain about bad grades. In my opinion she went very slow through the lectures, but I'd rather have that then someone who goes too fast.
Class wasn't hard, but she isn't very good at lecturing
I took her MWF class for 50 minutes each so we had to squeeze 2 sections of a chapter into each meeting, which only left time to do 2-3 practice questions in class. This combined with her not thoroughly explaining the concept or how to work the equations was awful. I personally wouldn't take or recommend her class. She's a really nice lady though.
Mrs. Midkiff is definitely a sweet and kind person, but I am pretty sure this was her first semester teaching Calc2 and I'm not sure if she's very qualified for such a class which is much more difficult than 125. She didn't have great answers to in-class questions and mostly just copied down the notes she brought with her.
Prof. Midkiff is ADORABLE. There is extra credit available for EVERY homework, quiz, test, and the final. There are also a TON of drop grades. Usha was always available; she helped me with confusing questions and gave me extensions on late grades. Unfortunately, many people in our class failed b/c they didn't go to lecture. GO TO CLASS and EASY A+
Her teaching style leans towards letting you work the problem and then helping you correct mistakes, she doesn't just give you the answer and show you step by step. You are going to need to explain steps and techniques that you are using when doing a problem and she will be a great help. You must be willing to put in the work!
This class has no lab, so it has a very heavy course load with very little lecture time. You typically do 4-5 sections a week. Dr. Midkiff herself is nice, but since there so much to do in one semester, you do not retain much information. She is accessible outside of class, especially before tests, but she does not reply to any emails at all.
A lot of people don't do well in class because they don't go. Even though attendance isn't required, still be sure to go. She tries hard to encourage us to bring our grades up and walks you through all the resources available to help. If you put in the effort, she'll help and your score will improve, she's very sweet and caring.
Nothing incredibly special; basic lecturer. Content isn't terribly hard but be prepared to put in work outside of class. Even though the teaching is mid, she's a sweet woman and sometimes would give candy to encourage participation. Not a bad professor by any means.
Distance learner; there were times I needed to find help outside the course since some lectures were a bit vague in the content. However, the material itself is easy to find and she provides the book online if you need more written-out examples. She would always respond to my emails promptly when I needed help. Overall good course! :)
