She is an Indian teacher. Despite her accent. She is a great teacher. You dont see many teachers at the college level that take so much time to make sure that you understand the material. After she is done teaching a segment/chapter she asks everyone if you want her to re show the class how to do it again. Im going to take her again for math99
goes over the material unitl you understand it. good speed over chapters and new material. theres a quiz ever other weak, test are pretty straight forward but are pretty short and makes you study more then needed since not eveything on the test youve learned. homework is required and is actually looked at, carefull!! overall decent.
Worst teacher i have ever had, she doesn't care about her students and how they are doing in the class. she only knows how to explain a problem one way and that is her way, when you ask her to explain it a different way she gets all upset&explains it the SAME way she did before. she gets upset if you keep asking her to help you and explain it again
Good algebra teacher. Usha is serious about punctuality and expects you to come to every class. Teaches concepts clearly, asks often if you need further explanation or have questions. Her tests were fair and she wants students to succeed. The downside, she can seem frustrated by questions about previous info, stating "I explained that yesterday".
Nice person, but able to teach at the Collegiate level. Not an instructor I would recomend... several students were not happy with the class
Ms. Raman is a great algebra teacher. I'm a new college student and haven't taken math in 10 years. When anyone has a question in class she is more than willing to take the time and explain the answer, and asks before moving on if anyone did not follow. She does not tolerate tardiness, and will only allow 10 minutes for quizzes (only 4 questions).
Very nice and helpful teacher, cares about student's success and have a lot of extra points.
Prof. Raman is very helpful & clear w/ the subject. She always asks the entire class if we understand the material and if anybody doesn't get it, she goes over again to make sure they get it. Attendance is not required but she expects you to be present every day and I really suggest you do because you will be totally lost if you don't.
Usha is a great teacher, she is clear on when tests and quizzes are. The quizzes are very short, and you have plenty of time to complete them. Homework is not required to do in this class, but you get extra credit for it. Only a few problems are assigned to turn in for each section. Awesome teacher, makes learning math a breeze.
This was my second attempt at Math 99 and I'm glad I took it with Ms. Raman. She is clear, friendly, willing to answer questions, and very nice. I think she's an easier grader than most as well. Highly recommended.
Ms. Raman is a very professional and respectful teacher. You may have a hard time understanding her for the first week, but you will get it. ALWAYS willing to come in early or stay late to help you and wants all her students to succeed !! I highly recommend her for people who have a hard time with Algebra !!!
I really liked Professor Raman. I am not great at math, but I'm pulling an A in the class because she is dedicated to her students. Use her office hours if you are unclear. Ask for another example in class. She is happy to help her students and is sincerely invested in their success. I'd recommend her.
Raman is a very nice and caring prof. She really wants her students to succeed and will answer any questions. This doesn't mean she is really easy, but if you attend class and do the hw you will be fine. She even held a finals study session for us before finals week. She does give some extra credit to help you out sometimes as well. Take her.
Do not take her class, because you will suprise when you get a test. She review not enough time and tatolely different when review math. I studied hard but i didn't get better score. I don't know any class she teach low level? Someone said she easy but for me it is not.
I don' recomman for everyone take her class, because the test not easy like someone said in low level. It's totally diffrence she review, and then you don't get extra credit, because she didn't give you easy.
This teacher is VERY committed to your learning and understanding of concepts, but she tests you on things that weren't even thoroughly covered.. and her point system is pretty tough. 500 points for the whole quarter, so you pretty much have to ace EVERY test to get an A. Good at teaching, but even if you work hard and study, not a guaranteed A.
I don't recomment for everyone to take her class, because she totally diffrent from the test when her review, and then the Quiz real treatky. The math no extra credit, if it have one 1 point. She teacher too faster and she thinks it she writ down on the board doesn't make everyone thinking. You DON'T wish get an "A" like someone said. all student 72%
She was more into her cell phone with texting and Facebook then helping the students. She also went as far as asking about babysitting to one of the students. I would pass on this class, as you won't get the help from her unless you text or Facebook her. Oh, ya good luck getting an email responds back.
She is a good but hard teacher, the class moves very fast. Basically in every class, she goes over problems in the book. Tests and quizzes are extremely difficult.I attended every class and went to her office for extra help, and did all the extra credit offered and failed the class.
She's very nice, ready to help, and always look forward to you doing better.Take her she's the best. She is very helpful and interested in you succeeding.Take her
The material is hard, not the instructor. Usha is very caring and wants her students to do well. She even said she takes care of her students. Will go over material again if needed. I know a lot of student had a hard time, but really it was because they overloaded themselves or chose not to show up. I won't hesitate taking another class from her.
More than willing to help when having trouble on problems. Wants success for every one of her students. Willing to give some "hints" when struggling on an exam or quiz. Class grade was based on only 450; so a bad exam score can make it nearly impossible to get an A. There is some opportunity for extra credit. I would take her again!
Very invested in student's understanding of the material and always willing to answer questions both in class and via email. Lots of problems worked out on the board for practice. As mentioned before, not a lot of wiggle-room as far as points are concerned, but go to class, take notes, do the homework, and an A is quite doable.
I can't believe she has so many negitive reviews. She really cares about her students. A few of the topics our class had problems with and she would go over and over until we undestood. Her tests are straight forward so if you go to class you can know exactly what will be on the tests. I wish I could take her for all my math!
CLASS IS VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND, TOO FAST PACED. INSTRUCTOR NOT VERY HELPFUL, OVERALL A WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME.
Usha is simply wonderful and kind teacher. She does care, and always has a smile on her face. She allowed us to e-mail math problems we are struggling with and she'd help. She does have an accent but it's very understandable. My class wasn't fast paced at all, even tho it was only twice a week. I am taking her class next qtr
Usha is very nice and helpful teacher. She always has a smile on her face. She does care about her students, even let us e-mail her math problems we are struggling with. I am taking her class next qtr
Mrs.Raman was a really nice and helpful teacher! She would sometimes spend too much time on a certain topic bc the class needed help on it and bc of that we fell behind but other than that I think she was great.
Raman was a good teacher. She was very kind and eager to help, but sometimes she misunderstands the student's questions and was not very clear in answering them. However, while demonstrating problems she is clear and you'll learn a lot. You won't be super impressed with her, but you won't hate her, and for a math class, that's worth settling for.
She is a very difficult teacher to learn from. Even when you go to her office hours with specific questions, she never has a clear answer. I believe she is better at teaching lower level maths than higher levels. I would avoid her if you can.
Avoid if at all possible. I've never struggled with math..but with her definately. the homework and test questions are form opposite worlds so no matter how hard you study you will do horrible on the tests. the class average was 50% and she complained we gave her too much work. half the class took it for the 2nd time and still failed.
She's a very nice person cos she always smile and try to help out students who are struggling. However, it is hard to get a high score on quizzes and tests and the instruction didn't help me that much to understand concepts of Precalculus.
Teacher explains the material well and will go over it until the class understands. As long as you do the homework and pay attention you can easily walk away with an A grade. Shes friendly and helpful. Gives small opportunities of extra credit. Very patient.
Ms. Raman is an amazing teacher. She acknowledges that everyone has different learning styles and tries, to the best of her ability, to use different approaches until everyone understands. Test and quizzes are easy if you do the homework and come to class everyday.Fair grader. If you respect her, she will respect you. Great class! Learned so much!
You will basically only pass this class if you only get a few test questions wrong. Her weekly quizzes are 3-4 questions long, so if you miss one, it hurts your grade pretty badly.
I took her summer 142 class. It was very challenging due to summer quarter being so short. Had a hard time getting to all the sections. If you take summer be prepared for lots of homework. Hardest class I've taken but worked really hard and came through with a 4.0
It is extremely difficult to pass the tests, even when you study. She falls behind and when she wants to catch up she speeds through the chapters and lacks the ability to explain the material. She assumes that you think the same way as her and if you don't understand her she gets frustrated. She laughed at the class when we asked her questions.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS she will not help you at all!!! she is rude and can barely undertSTAND HER unclear with everything, doesn't grade homework, useless class. worst teacher ever
good teacher but her tests are impossible. take if you would like to challenge yourself.
Her weekly quizzes are difficult and not very clear. The class grade average is bellow a 65%. She doesn't review any homework or tests. While she seem like a nice enough person, I don't think she is a good math teacher. The test questions do not reflect homework done. Would steer clear of her class!!!
Do not take her class! She will put things on her tests that she doesn't go over in class or even assign similar problems for homework. The class average is below 60%! That's a reflection on her teaching skills and confusing quiz/test/exams. Had a B+ in math 99 and failing in her class. Doing more homework, spending time at math lab ect.
Raman is incredibly helpful!! Go in for her office hours and you should do fine. I hate math but actually enjoyed the class quite a bit. Tests are short; about 10-16 questions. Lectures are very clear and easy to understand. Take GOOD NOTES and make sure to do all homework every night not at the end and study! Hmwk grades are added to test grades.
Great instructor! Had 5 quizzes, about 10 questions each. Questions are EXACT like the ones from the book. Had her for both precalculus courses, got 102% and 104% on both. Gives LOTS of extra credit, drops the lowest quiz. Helpful and patient. Gives you points back if you explain what you did on the test.
If you've never had Trig, study before going (via math lab/reading book/khan academy) to know about sine, cosine, tangent, ect. DO SUGGESTED HOMEWORK to study. Tests are short and are different than example problems in class.Just keep studying! She is understanding but a harsh grader
Due dates a little unclear. Sometimes there is not enough time given for tests and quizzes. The problems on tests are not the same problems done in class. Class always goes overtime and sometimes people miss things if they leave on time. buy a MyMathLab code. barely any extra credit. go to office hours-willing to help. slow on grades, good teaching
Her tests are all lengthy and most of the time the students didn't have time to finish every question. If they had time to finish, where would be no time to double check. She is also a tough grader and hardly any extra credit was given. Homework not graded. This means if you want to pass the class, you have to do very well in every test....
Terrible Teacher.. One of the worst ever taken. Final is worth 30% so if you do bad your grade plummets.
Pleasant person. Course work extremely difficult. Test concepts were 10 x harder than practice problems, homework, etc. Final was insanely hard. Class average was about 60%. Avoid if possible
Horrible teacher. You will fail this class if you take her course. Hard to understand and doesn't explain anything clearly.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS INSTRUCTOR. She is hard to understand, doesn't explain things well, has inconvenient office hours (which she doesn't even help you if you come to them), HARD tests with things we haven't learned. It is almost like she expects you to know EVERYTHING.
Horrible. Very tough grader would not recommend to anyone.. Questions on tests are way different than the practice questions. Also, not a lot is put into the gradebook so one bad quiz and game over!
Mrs Raman is a really good instructor. She's knowledgeable and if you intend on not skipping class, you should be able to get an A in this class easily.
Very knowledgable professor and I feel like if you show up to class everyday, you will pass her class. She really wants her students to understand the foundation of algebra to help them in future classes. I took Math 98 over the summer and she went really fast(obviously) but never hesitated to stop to help. She is great!
Mrs Raman is a tough prof to learn from. She tends to confuse me and things that i once understood are explained again in a way that confuses me more. She is very strict and does not trust in her students where as many teachers that i have had past successful courses with have.
Mrs. Raman is a great professor. Her lessons are well-planned and she doesn't rush thru the topics. Tests are just like the homework questions, and she gives partial credit . I took her for couple of different math classes, and would take again. She is very warm and welcoming person, and will always help you if you struggle!
I think she's a great teacher! Very knowledgeable about the material(which is good) and also very patient. Goes pretty fast but its only because we have about 2 months to learn everything. Only gave about 3 tests so you must do well on them or else you won't get a good grade in the class. Final grade based mostly on the tests and your final.
This was one of the hardest math classes I have ever taken, but Ms. Raman made it worthwhile. Her lectures were very straightforward, and she drew great graphs and constantly checked in to make sure everyone was caught up. The tests were also quite hard, but she made sure to go over the questions that confused us so we would be ready for the final.
I wish that all of my math classes could be taught by her. She explains things well, and answers questions when someone is confused. She really wants her students to do well, and learn math. It is clear that she truly enjoys teaching the course. I wouldn't recommend missing any classes as a lot is covered. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
This is the first math instructor who was able to help me learn and I have a math disability. Unfortunately she stopped teaching in the evenings and I work.
Take Raman if you are serious about learning! Yes, she has an accent and can be confusing but she makes sure every student learns the material. She will listen if you speak up with questions or worries. She's pushed back a test for my class for us. She really likes it if you use office hours DO IT! Worth it to buy book and MathLab!
Test are very hard and maybe a few too many questions. with most of the test the class was forced to turn them in because we ran out of time. she does give credit to homework. Quizzes should be simple, not mini test, especially since they affect your grade so dramatically. lectures are solid.
She doesn't grade anything. It's time for our final and she still hasn't graded the last two tests or the last quiz. It's hard to tell what I need to focus on and how I'm doing. She also chooses favorites. Gave us a take home test and let one student turn it in two days late.
HORRIBLE TEACHER. SHE WILL CALL YOU OUT IN CLASS WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER AND MAKE YOU KEEP ANSWERING UNTIL YOU GET IT RIGHT. DO NOT TAKE HER
Usha, is an amazing math professor. She genuinely cares about her students and will go out of her way to help you pass and understand concepts. she is always available after class to help. Also if you do really bad on a quiz or test she will help you learn the problems and give you some credit to help change your score. BEST MATH PROFESSOR EVER
She is the most outstanding maths teacher in Bellevue college. She go out of her way to help students and explain everything well and A++ .
Terrible teacher, hard to understand at times and talks very fast. She over explains everything so that after you thought you understood it, you end up not. She grades all homework late so your grade is skewed until the last minute. She also doesn't put anything on Canvas so it's hard to know what you have to do in a class.
She pretty much only lectures, but when you need help she will try her best. However her accent is hard to understand sometimes. It was a pretty boring class, and you will have to study most on your own.
Usha really cared that you were successful in her class. At some times, when you asked a question she won't answer very clearly or answer your specific question. She doesn't have a very strong accent so it was easy to understand.
She wont move on until she KNOWS everyone gets the concept. She works on the students pace rather than her own agenda. Nothing is by surprise and you know what to expect every week. If she was teaching 148, i'd sign up for her 100%. I was never lost in the class. Very sweet, still says hi to me if we pass on campus.
She is hard to understand, doesn't put anything in the gradebook except tests. She is confusing when it comes to test dates..... Puts off tests, forgets to put things on Canvas that she says she will. Takes a long time to grade. If you have a decision between other teachers, DO NOT choose her!!
Mrs. Raman is probably the worst instructor Ive ever had. she talks fast and is hard to understand. she never tells you if you have homework. she over explains thins she doesn't need to and doesn't explain things she should. only tests in the gradebook. she only brought confusion. please do not chose her... you will regret
Usha never gives out study guides for the tests. she gives out "extra credit" but it's only worth a couple points and does nothing for your grade. Super confusing and hard to understand. Don't even bother with Mrs Raman, bad teacher
Usha's test are hard. There is no doubt about it. However, contrary to what some people might say, she is clear. She also goes in depth. It is important that you participate and ask questions in class. No spoon fed math in her class. Usha was always friendly, available, and ready to help in office hours.
Very hard class, the tests are extremely hard. I learned a lot though, she is a great teacher and is interested in the students. She wont move on until the whole class is ready to. She is more concerned with the student understanding and learning. If you want an easy teacher dont take her, but if you want to challenge yourself, then she is great!
Usha is a sweet human being, but not as a good teacher, well at least she tries. At first I thought the comments were given from not good students, but after trying her class I can tell that she makes really hard tests and exams. Avoid her if youre not a math person at all cost, simple advice. Shes here to challenge not to help students succeed!
I took MATH 97-99 got an above perfect score. Was excited to take this class and it was going well until Raman came in to sub for the rest of the quarter. As usual, I attend every class, come on time, sit in the front, do my homework and study. She is one of the worst instructors I ever had, bad at explaining, can barley understand, very boring.
Even though the math work was all online, it was still required to show up and participate by doing the math work online. Sometimes she comes 5-15 minutes late due to traffic or parking, but other than that she is a great teacher. There is no limted amount of tests you can take to pass a math test. Sometimes she can be confusing to understand.
Mrs. Raman gives hard tests?? No. I heard a few students say this in class as well, but when I looked back at my notes , she gave us tests using those same problems, just altered differently. Before each test she offers a review if students would like it and even review crucial test information. She's amazing at explaining until you get it.
Doesn't give students enough time to prep for tests
Not sure if its because I took this during the summer but she was very disorganized and thats the part that made me not like this class. She doesnt have lecture notes and is very hard to understand her teaching because she is all over the place. She also doesnt require homework but for each test, makes you do problems from the book to turn in.
Oh dear god... I will never take a course with this professor again. All of the struggles in this course were because the lack of proper instruction instead of the math itself. The tests were heavy on content we were not proficient in. If you are taking any math class make sure it's not with her.
Don't take any class with her, she didn't put any grades till the day before the final, she made the class very stressful for students, she a nice person but does not care about her students at all, she never made us prepare for anything so if you want a professor who sends a message at 1 am telling you that you have exam at 10 am then take her.
Mrs Raman was a relatively nice teacher that is middle of the pack compared to others, but specifically for this class transitioning online due to covid, mid-class, was a real pain. Everything about the class was relatively fine but for whatever reason, most math teachers are kind of bipolar - you never know what mood you will get.
This was my second class with Mrs Raman simply because I figured I'd either stick with her or end up with a worse teacher. Mrs Raman is a pretty fine teacher but with the meetings every day in the morning online format it was just brutal. Mixing no technology knowledge with just okay teacher is a bad mix. The textbook was my best friend.
