Dr. Befferts lectures are fun and rich with information. The goal is to understand what is happening at each point of each cellular process. Most of the information is on the powerpoints and although the information is at times tricky to understand, Dr Befferts office hours are incredibly helpful and are the key to success in the course.

Professor Beffert is a great teacher--he explains the material very clearly in class and is extremely helpful if you go to office hours. His exams are straight from his powerpoints, which are very well put together and easy to follow. For the material you don't understand, it helps to read the book and, again, talk to him in office hours.

His class isn't going to be easy--you will have to put in a lot of work to keep up and not get lost in class. He also isn't a particularly "fun" guy--his lectures are quite literally just that--lectures that make you want to sleep. However, this doesn't mean he is a bad teacher: he explains things well if you pay attention, and is very open to Qs

Not an easy A for sure but study hard and you'll do well. His powerpoints are amazing and he answers every question students post on piazza (even the stupid ones, with lots of sass). Uwe isn't interested in educating his students on the material. He barely covers a chapter in lecture then states that students are responsible for everything in the book anyways. His exams are not based on the material, rather, he'll incorporate the material to ask you an unrelated question. He makes you feel stupid in class for asking a question.

Beffert is extremely callous. He does not care much about his students succeeding. He is very disengaged and monotone during his lectures. His exams are very tough because they pull from all material and tie a bunch of different topics together (the questions mostly end up being critical reading). The reality of BI203 with Beffert is that it is hard. Extremely hard. You will need to study 2+ weeks if you want to perform well on the exams, and you need to be able to understand the material on a deeper basis than what is listed on his 50+ slide lectures. As long as you understand that you will need to GRIND for an A, it is possible.

This may be the sassiest professor I've had. He makes very slick comments about how difficult the course is and constantly compares us to other schools. Some of his responses to students' questions are very sassy.

Dr. Beffert is way too sassy to be such a mid professor. His lectures sucked (so monotone and fast-paced), but if you go/take notes, add to those notes using the powerpoints he posts, and go over all HW/tophat problems (multiple times - till at least 85% accuracy) you will do well. FYI textbook chapter readings are not super important good luck!!

His lectures were amazing and very helpful. This class was hard but if you put in the effort you can do well. Going to lectures is important to do well. This class had so much content that was covered in a short amount of time but he was a very good lecturer and made it easy to learn.

such a sassy king and i lived for it (unless directed at me...). class is difficult only bc there is SM CONTENT. lectures and book are DENSE but if you had some understanding of the material, exams were manageable. no curve but grade borders are lowered. lecture tophat questions are graded on accuracy and he has no mercy- every single one counts!

This class did not foster a positive learning environment. This professor used ChatGPT to grade our assignments, exams, and to organize lecture slides because he didn't want to be "bias." What's really upsetting is that this class felt like a waste of $3,000. CAS BI394 not offer a single hub credit so it just like I took this class for no reason.

This man is literally evil. Our first exam average was 65, he shows up to lecture the next day and is like "well I thought it was easy." He's just not a good teacher and his exams are so different than the material we have to prepare for them.

This guy is probably the most egotistical, rude person I have ever had the chance of meeting. He is absolutely unwilling to help students with accommodations, even when you ask him months in advance. He truly does not care if you pass or fail, and since he's tenured he probably won't start caring either. Do not take his classes if you can.

I'm not sure how he got a 4/5 for overall rating when he's genuinely the worst professor I've ever had. BU should really reevaluate who they hired because he just reads off the textbook in a powerpoint slide and complains when half the overall class fails his midterms. Not only is he rude and condescending, but he doesn't care about his students.

Genuinely speaking from personal experience, Professor Beffert is a great professor. BI203 is a hard course by nature and there is a lot of content to go through, and he is one of the most organized and thorough professor I've ever had. I took detailed notes of every lecture and did great on the exams. don't let some of these comments mislead you.

He was a great teacher, always responded to emails at a timely manner (I literally emailed him at like two am once and he got back within ten minutes), the curve helps a LOT. I got like 65 on both of the first two exams and still got an A.

Uwe Beffert's super chill during lecture. It can be harder to hear him if you're sitting in the back, but he goes over the slides pretty well. Make sure to do ALL homework questions, as most of them will be on exams. The only time he gets off track is when he talks about his love for running and doing other things, which I think is pretty cool.

The professor is amazing and his class is absolutely worthy to take. However, the midterms and the final are hard. My suggestion is to read the textbook chapter first and then take his lectures. I usually finish all the readings (usually 3 chapters) and then rewatching all the lectures recording right before midterm on Monday during the weekend.
