Nice professor but class is tough-mostly individual studying of material (large class sizes) Explains topics fairly well
Absolutly only of the best teachers I've ever had. He keeps your attention, and his exam format is great. Totally would recommend.
His powerpoint presentations keep his notes organized which keeps my attention and helps me understand the points he is trying to get across to the class.
CRAZY GERMAN MAN! He is hard to understand sometimes. The class is super hard and you must study a lot! His tests are super duper hard and don't make sense. You must study a lot!
His class is hard but I learned a lot. If you study a lot you’ll get by
A little hard to understand, so you must study very hard by reading the book. He also doesn't post notes on the website until the day before the test. But otherwise, he's an ok teacher.
Sometimes it's hard to understand Pott, and it almost confuses you more if you go to lecture. As long as you read the book (actually read, don't skim), you'll do fine. Be prepared though, his tests are hard.
He's very approachable and willing to offer help on any questions that you may have. The exams were a little tough but as long as you get his lecture notes and read the topics in the book relevant to his lectures, you'll do great.
clear with beautiful accent
Dr. Pott is one of those teachers that will do everything he can to help you, provided you actually do the work required. Super-approachable, he's almost as much a friend as he is a professor. Don't let negative comments fool you, Pott is a great prof.
Very cool accent and has some good jokes. Hard to understand if you're not into bio
Good professor, but mega hard exams. No matter how much you read you'll always get 5 wrong and end up with a B. Went to all lectures and labs, great in science, and still could not get the A. Nearly immpossible. Always makes sure there are questions on the exam that seperate the men from the boys!
This Class Is Uber Hard, But Pott Still Makes A Lot Of It Interesting.

Very good classes, Very good teacher. Willing to do whatever it takes to help his students understand and comprehend the material. Accent can be difficult to understand, but easy to overcome. All Classes Recommended for Bio majors!

oh uwe! haha...what a guy
Has a nice german accent
Very good teacher! A bit dry at times, but overall great teacher! Would certainly take him again if given the chance!
Had him freshman year, not as bad as some make him out to be. Challenging, once you get used to him you'll be fine.
You have to put effort into this course if you want a good grade but he's a great teacher. I'll defiantely take him again if I have the chance.
Great Professor! His tests are a great format. Many people will probably tell you differently, but this is one of the best professors I have had. His tests are for the most part very straightforward and right from his powerpoints. But go to class!! He does include notes from class on tests. Would take any class with this professor!! A+++++
Good overall
Hated his class and test format. Love science in general but thought this class was awful. But after you make it through Bio I, you have many other better classes and professors to look forward to, so just stick it out!
Pott is a very nice person. He has a genuine love for science, especially genetics. I took his class and liked it but it was very difficult. He spits out a lot of xtra info and its not on the test. You have to decide what to study. I would say he's good. But science is hard so you determine if you'd take him.
I had Pott as a Freshman, and let me tell you, I miss him. You may think his tests are hard, but wait till you get to upper level bio stuff,..you'll miss the multiple choice. One of the largest bricks in UWGB's foundation. They really got lucky when he came to us from Zurich or wherever it was. Highly recommended,. I got an A. Read the book!!
Ok at presenting the information and keeping class interesting. Don't need to know anything for the class because he just uses his old tests. Horrible at getting grades back on time. Made us write essays without giving any guidelines other than the topic and 2 page length and then takes off points for things that he never told us to do/not do.
Pott is a good teacher, I understand most of what he says, if I would've put more effort in, I would've done better. Great guy! (German accent was NOT a problem whatsoever!)
Pott isn't for everyone, but I like his lectures, organization, and his tests for the most part. Some of his questions seem to focus on what something ISN'T, rather than just what it is. First two tests aren't bad. Final was rough, but probably because I didn't attend any lectures after the 2nd exam.
Uwe is more than happy to help you out if you ask him for it. His "German Accent" isn't at all hard to understand, infact I think it is sort of funny. He also is humerous throughout class. You will need to study and work hard, but you will be happy in the end. It is a tough course... 3 out of 160 got an "A"... Class average was a "C". Fun Class.
UWE is the man great prof. hopeing to have him in upper level bio classes
Uwe is a great prof, especially if you can get him in a smaller class size. A great asset to UWGB. Really encourages students to use critical thinking and truly understand what they're learning about, rather than just memorizing. His labs are the most useful of any I've taken in any subject. I think his accent is dreamy!
Uwe is such an asset to the UWGB staff! He is extremely knowledgeable about what he teaches and can explain it very well to the class. His tests are written to see if you understand the material, and not that you just memorized facts. He is very willing to help in his office hours or anytime it works for you. I would take ANY class he offers!
Very good professor! Extremely knowledgable about the subject and very willing to help his students succeed! The tests are well written- he doesn't try to trick you with test questions. If you attend class and pay attention you will do very well. I look forward to taking upper level bio classes he teaches!
Lectures are always the same. Gets kind of boring after a while. Make sure you take notes on the lecture, not just the notes given to you through the lecture. His tests may be hard, but are very valuable because you have to KNOW the information to do well, not just memorize it. He is a pretty funny guy and he is very very wise on his subjects
Good Professor, held Q and A sessions prior to exams.
I had Professor Pott for a summer course, and I really enjoyed the class. Though I didn't have him long, I did enjoy his class and would recommend him as a professor.
His accent was not a problem at all. He posts the slides AND audio from the lectures online, so there really isn't any excuse to not have a basic understanding of the material. However, the tests are quite difficult.
His accent isn't a problem. He records his lectures and posts them to D2L, and he also posts the lecture notes so you have lots of study material. THE TESTS ARE VERY DIFFICULT, and he never uses a curve. It's not the worst class, it's just very boring and hard to study for.
Posted all his lectures online and didn't make class attendance mandatory which was great. Tests are fairly difficult, but if you actually pay attention and take notes it wasn't that bad.
You have to read the book if you expect to learn anything from this class. Nothing you learn in lecture corresponds with what is on his tests. I recommend study the online book activities as well. And no matter how low the class average, he will not curve it.
Our lecture exams class average for the whole year is a 46%. You do the math.
This class requires a fair amount of studying, but it's college. The tests aren't difficult if you actually learn the material.Focus on the lecture rather than the book and you can earn an A.He posts the lectures online which is helpful. Listen to them until you truly understand the material and the tests will be easy-Would recommend this professor.
I found this class to be extremely hard. The professor is very knowledgable, but I found the material to be impossible. Tests are insanely hard compared to what you learn in class. Overall, he's an alright professor but don't take him unless you are really really interested in the class.
I'm not gonna lie, it's almost impossible to get an A in this class. But it's almost impossible to get an F too. He had a 10 point extra credit quiz, many study groups, and you get 20 points just for showing up to lab. I did a lot better in this class than I thought I would, the middle chunk(photosynthesis)is REAL hard but after that it gets easier
A nice guy but shouldn't be a professor. He gets way to indepth for a starting out course and expects you to know some of the smallest things from the notes. Also he puts stuff on the tests that isn't in the notes, lecture, or book. So good luck!
Amazing professor. Those who think the class is 'impossible' didn't try very hard. He provides with lectures to study from, power points, study sessions and quizzes that resemble the test so you know what to expect. Yes he is hard but he truly wants you to learn and apply yourself so if you put in the effort he does, you'll be fine.
The class is hard, but you learn a lot. If you study, you will be fine. He even tapes the lectures. His review sessions are very helpful. You can ask all the questions you want. Really good class, but you have to work at it.
Great class! Although I didn't too that great, I learned a lot. (I should have studied more.) Dr. Pott is very helpful and explains everything. You can always ask questions. It is a hard class, but I guess it's not really supposed to be easy. I would recommend his class to anyone!
This guy obviously loves biology, but didn't reach out and teach it well. He talked using scientific terms a lot and his examples sucked. He was really nice, though. I'm glad I took AP bio in high school otherwise I would have bombed his tests for sure!
His quizzes and exams are difficult. I sometimes have issues following his lectures, but if you ask him a question one on one he is really great at explaining and tries to help all he can. Always uses illustrations to teach complicated topics. Lectures are recorded and he holds weekly Q&A sessions. Overall very helpful professor.
His exams were extremely hard! He didn't explain the information taught in the class well at all! And the questions on the exams/quizzes we worded confusingly and/or did not pertain to the material covered. Do not take his class!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS BIO OR SCI MAJOR. My adviser told me to take this class. I am a business major. Lab will save you, even my bio and sci friends had difficulties in this class. Go see tutoring and they will help you learn the material better. Also only the online textbook with the videos helped at all. He sometimes curves overall grade.
I thought this was a hard class for sure. I knew it wasn't like high school biology. Some of his test questions didn't pertain to what he discussed in class, so read the book and study, study, and study to pass his class. It's not an easy A in his class; you have to work very hard for it.
I thought the class was very interesting. You do have to study, but he is a GREAT professor. He will answer any question, anytime. He has weekly Q&A, plus office hours. If you don't get it, study better. Tests were challenging, but if you study you will be fine. There is NEVER anything on tests that he didn't cover. Great class. I learned a lot!
I took this course online over the summer. The professor was very helpful with any questions that I had, whether that was in the lab or during the online portion. The material was difficult towards the end, but he explains things very well! Keeping up with the work and studying a lot is a must! I would take another class with this professor again
Great professor! Always willing to help and very clear on what is going to be on exams. His lectures are interesting and makes it a very fun class to attend! Can't wait to take a different course with him.
Professor Pott made my first semester at UWGB exciting. He explains everything in an easy to understand way and is always more than happy to meet with you out of class if you need more help. The book is almost useless, just there if you need exra help. Exam 2 is the hardest, but all the exams need plenty of study time. Great professor!!
I found Pott to be super helpful, and if you don't understand something he is almost always in his office. If he's not, he is easy to reach by email as well. I found him very easy to understand, and would recommend him to anyone who has to take this class!
Dr. Pott is a very good professor who loves the subject he teaches. His lectures are very informative and he always repeats the major points more than once. He is there when you need refresher on material that you may not have understood right away. He truly wants his students to succeed in his class.
Professor Pott has made BIO 202 a less stressful course than I imagined it to be. Being a student from a different university and taking his course this summer was one of the best ideas. He is super helpful, friendly and willing to work with you until you understand it!
A very good professor You must apply yourself and put in the time to study for exams Really wants you to understand the material and remember Very helpful with questions
While Dr. Pott is a very nice guy, his tests/quizzes are tough and the lectures can be very extensive in detail. He expects you to know a lot for the tests, page by page of your notes. Good luck in his class if you're not a science major!
Although Pott seems very knowledgeable about the subject he teaches, he can be very hard to follow sometimes. Besides his hard-to-understand German accent, he tends to ramble on about material that we do not even need to know for exams. Then when it is exam time, I do not know what I all need to know. Ultimately, smart prof but the class is hard
Attendance isn't mandatory. He posts lectures online but I found it much more helpful to attend. He is from Germany and has a slight accent but it didn't effect much. He is very knowledgeable about the material. He gives online quizzes that will either help or hurt you. He uploads the PowerPoint as words so that you can print them out and write on.
Dr. Pott is brilliant, but I feel that he is not good at relaying the information in lecture. I did not like his teaching style (quite dry) and he sometimes rambles on about topics that have nothing to do with the upcoming test. I would only take his classes if required, otherwise, stay away.
Great Professor. You have to study a lot to do well in the class, but he is very open to questions and hosts weekly Q and A's
Professor Pott is one of my favorite professors!
Overall, he's a good professor and I enjoyed this class. He has a good sense of humor and is always willing to help. I also loved his German accent! However, I took AP biology in high school and still found this class to be pretty challenging and had to work hard for the A. But if you take good notes and study his lectures, you will do fine!
Great professor, one of the best I've had. If you care about the class and use the study tools he gives you, you should have no problem (lecture recordings, notes, Q&A's). He goes above and beyond what you need to know. Obviously its "difficult" because he expects you to learn...I worked hard and it payed off.
Makes his exam questions harder by the way he words them, uses the "a and b but not c" types of questions which is annoying... This semester he posted a lecture video and the slides to d2l but fair warning he said he will no longer be doing that...
He is in his own world and just reads off the lecture slides. When students ask him questions, he deliberately avoids the question and at the end of a long explanation, he does not answer it. Contacting him is hard. If you send him an email he will not reply, he will wait until the next class time and read the email to the class and then answer you
Pott is absolutely brilliant and you can clearly tell he know what he's talking about. That being said his class is EXTREMELY challenging. Quiz and exam questions all have trick answers to purposely mess you up. If you take the time to visit his during office hours he is very helpful but doesn't really respond to emails.
Dr. Pott is an amazing professor, he is very knowldegable in his field, and quite funny. To be successful in his class you have to work hard, and study the lecture notes. You cannot expect a good grade if you just study the night before the exam. If you do your work you will be fine. Dr. Pott is very helpful if you go see him during office hours.
I loved Dr. Pott! A lot of people criticize his teaching and style of exam questions, but honestly if you study the material, understand it, and put in a little extra effort, you will do fine. That being said, you definitely have to work hard for an A in this class. He didn't curve our exams all semester, but he gave a nice curve at the end!
Take very good notes on what he says in class. If you're an auditory learner this class won't be too hard. He gives 12 quizzes 10 points each which are helpful for studying for the exams, however he likes to change one or two words so the question is totally different. This class is heavy on application, not memorization.
Prof. Pott is very good at teaching the material; however, the quizzes are very hard and the lecture is made for mainly auditory learners. It's a tough class, so studying is a must.
He is a difficult professor when it comes to the academics, be prepared for some challenging yet short quizzes and exams. Provides a lot of extra materials to help study. His class was hard but in a good way. Is harder then the other professor who lectures this coarse but you learn more. Definitely recommend only to serious science majors.
Uwe Pott is clearly an extremely educated professor. With that being said, he talks as if we should already know the material or that we're already experts. However, he's very nice, funny at times, and will help you if you have questions. The exams are very hard, as well as the twelve online quizzes, and you won't do well if you don't study.
Professor Pott's class is hard and I do not recommend skipping the class because getting caught up is hard to do. All his tests and quizzes are very lecture heavy. One nice thing is that you do see a lot of repeat questions on the exams from the quizzes. He does have review sessions and office hours and he is very helpful if you have a question.
Professor Pott was an AMAZING professor, very knowledgable in his field of study, however he is hard to understand you need to listen carefully and take very good notes.
A very knowledgeable professor and is willing to offer you help in order for you to succeed. BUT he doesn't really give you much to earn a grade in his biology class. You quizzes but no matter how well you do on them your exams are what really boosts your grade. He only give two exams out of the whole semester and a final at the end.
I just finished my online class and it was the worst class I have ever taken. He made us watch 30+ hours of lectures per week online and would give us only two quizzes per week that you would not be able to answer from what he taught what so ever. Many tears shed and nothing learned.
The online Bio class is difficult, but good. You need to do a lot of stuff on your own, but all the material is there. He posts really good lectures. There are quizzes every week, because its a short summer class. If you watch the lectures and look over the book, you will pass. Lectures about about 45 minutes each. Study and youll pass.
I hated this class. He expects EXPERT knowledge on all topics. Quizzes are so hard and always have one word that throws off the whole answer. EXAMS ARE KILLER. Basically only graded by exams and some quizzes. He curves heavy but a waste of time if you actually want to learn
Prof Pott expects you to have a high level of biology knowledge coming into the class, which makes the class difficult. I paid attention to lecture but still had no clue what he was talking about most of the time. Exams and quizzes are HARD. Study a lot if you expect a decent grade.
The most FRUSTRATING part about this lab was that you have a 4-question quiz every week (minus two 10-question quizzes and final). I don't mind weekly quizzes! But his quizzes are OVERLY TOUGH and CONFUSING. Because of this, you were very likely to miss questions. Miss a single question? Now you got a C for that quiz instead of an A. It was ROUGH.
There is a total of 6 full labs and your lowest gets taken out. We had 3 quizzes and the lowest got taken out, and 11 pretests, and the lowest got taken out. The pretests and the final lowered my grade a lot, however he gave us 2% added to the final grade if anyone was on the edge, didnt help me but Im sure it helped some, also have him next sem.
Expects so much for a class that is a supposed to be an intro level bio class to set us up for later classes
Expects an insane amount of knowledge from 200 level students. A family member of mine got sick and passed away during the school year and Pott barely replied to my emails trying to coordinate extensions. Suffice to say if you are having trouble in life during this class don't expect any sympathy. if you dont study everyday you wont pass
This class is extremely difficult. Be ready to study your heart out for a mediocre grade. His questions are worded to trick you and he doesn't respond to emails. I hope I pass so I don't have to retake, but it will be close. Grade is only based on quizzes and exams. I didn't understand the lectures, so all of my learning was on my own. Just prepare
This class was definitely challenging however this is a college level course. All quiz/test questions are directly from lecture, but you must understand the material, not just memorize. He is surely passionate about the subject and it shows, ask questions and he will be happy to answer. Drops lowest quiz and curves, always a plus!
He is very thorough & knowledgeable, & clearly loves his subject. Be prepared to study hard, grading is based solely on 3 exams & 6 quizzes over the semester. The material is very challenging, and is all lecture, no other homework. Would be helpful if he prepared a study guide for the exams besides the quizzes, but he doesn't, so study study study.
BIO 202 lab with Pott was laid back and easy. He is a slow grader, so expect grades towards the end of the semester. There are 12 pre-tests, and 3 quizzes; the lowest 2 pre-tests and 1 quiz is dropped. Super easy lab class w/Pott. Downer is that labs tend to drag since he waits for everyone before moving to the next lab step.
There are lots of negative reviews for Dr. Pott for being a tough grader and not working with students. These simply ARE'T true. He was incredibly helpful when I went in for office hours, gave me study tips, and gives you everything you need in his lectures and slides. Put in the effort and you'll do fine. Slack and you won't. It's that simple.
One thing I recommend is pay attention and ask questions. There are no study guides which make tests very difficult, but Prof. Pott is a good professor and appreciates when you ask questions in class. Also remember to take notes. He doesn't put many words on the slides so taking notes in class is very necessary.
One of the hardest classes I've taken! Open note quizzes but don't let that trick you - you NEED TO STUDY. He's nice and really cares about his students. Posts lectures online so you can rewatch. Gives you tools you need to succeed. Clearly annoyed when the test average is bad, but in the mom way so you can't be mad. Great teacher and person!
Pott was a good professor. I think his exams are a bit of a wake up call for STEM majors taking a STEM class for the first time. His class is like any other STEM class, requires attendance to class to know material, and requires work to be put in outside of class in order to pass. If you put in the work, you will succeed in his class.
Dr.Pott really does care about his students. He wants the class to engage and ask questions to ensure they know what he is teaching. You NEED to take lots of notes and study on what he talks about during lecture. His tests are applied knowledge, meaning that you cannot just merely memorize your notes. You must thoroughly understand their contents.
Weekly open note quizzes and occasional exams. Professor is somewhat engaging and cares about his subject matter.
All quizzes and exams are multiple-choice. Those are your only grades however he does a major curve at the end of the semester. Quizzes are open notes, and overall ask questions and talk with Dr.Pott and he is more than happy to help you out.
Be ready to study outside of class. All of the lectures are recorded and posted online for later review. He gives weekly quizzes which are nice for the grade and helpful for studying. He expects you to know a lot and have a deep understanding of the concepts he covers in class.
Dr. Pott is nice and obviously very knowledgeable about his field but, he has super high expectations for the material you're expected to know. It's doable, but intensive, you will probably get a passing grade but expect to really grind if you want better than a C.
I loved this class so much. He provides insight on quizzes after they are due. He also records lectures, so if you absolutely have to miss a class you can. Overrall, great professor and I am looking forward to taking more of his classes.
Having Professor Potts brought a fresh new perspective on how he teaches Biology. This is good, as my previous professors at a different university made it difficult to enjoy the content. READ THE SYLLABUS, as there are ways to get extra credit to boost your grade.
The only problem I had with Professor Pott was the technical problems he dealt with when teaching on Zoom. On that note, you must try to participate, as he clarifies that he will help you understand the material, but he does not want to "spoon-feed" the material to you. He also gives extensions when needed.
Professor Pott is very knowledgeable about the subject matter. This is also a bad thing because he doesn't dumb down the material for the students. He teaches it how he understands it, and most students aren't at that level of knowledge yet. That being said, he is a very understanding person.
