he is very difficult to understand and his tests are hard.
Well.. I think he is a good professor. Not mean or anything like that. However, you HAVE TO take good notes and study them (and the textbook) for the exam. The tests are difficult and it is very unlikely that you will gent an A for this course.
He is a very good teacher, and if you pay attention in class, take good notes, and really try to understand, instead of memorizing, you'll do OK.
very strange man. knows what he is talking about, but doesn't really explain it to the class very well. test are hard. strange man.

He is a very tough teacher.People are affraid to ask questions because of his bad responses. Your grade is based upon the 3 test you will receive during the term. 10% for attendance but no more than 2 abscences.

he hates latenesses, very fun class, not very easy but fun to have as a professor, if u get on his good side ull love him

His test are very hard. You have to study and listen to his lectures very carefully because he only gives 3 test but i think he's fair. He will pull your grade up if u have no more than 2 absences.

Most HILARIOUS guy ever! Knew him from SI campus. The tests r halfway impossible, but he curves it bigtime! Got A's in 1000C & 3000C. I learned sooo much in his classes!!!!!!
Generally-a good teacher-but tests are very hard. He's very smart and lectures seem interesting but then again, on the tests, when you feel you took good notes, well you didn't. I was sure to get a C. But go figure, he gave me a B! He curves tests (good!)
Nice guy, funny at times during his lectures, lectures not too bad, he gives multiple choice tests and only 3 of them, its not easy at all, wouldn't recommend him but he does curve but its a gamble he can either hurt or help your GPA.
Always go to class, never be late, and take excellent notes. There are 3 exams and they are all multiple choice, but they are not easy exams if you haven't been to class or read the text. He's a fair grader and you will receive the grade you worked for.
He's not an easy A, but he's DEFINATELY not IMPOSSIBLE. The test questions are taken straight out of the book. Just read it VERY WELL !!!
If you read the material well on your own, you won't even need to go to class. But if you go to class you'll get extra credit. It's possible to get an A
He is funny in a weird kind oof way. You really have to come to class to get his exams. I felt like it was an easy A.
easy A. funny, but weird. DO NOT BE LATE EVER especially if you're a guy. he looks like he wrestles bears and offers the bloody shamed animal a swig of his vodka afterwards. All you have to do is show up
class is boring. note-taking required. must read book. it's very essential that you do all of this in order to pass.
he's a wonderful teacher who really cares about his work, he expects his students to care about the work as well. Any questions are answered fully and intelligently. I really enjoyed his class. I've not had such an intelligent professor in a long time.
Tests are not bad... just study..never be late..dis guy is a hard on when ur late... i recieved a 100 on his final exam and had over a 95 avg... and he gave me an A- due to the fact that I was late 2 times. I worked hard and he screwed me over....bahhh
hated him. god forbid you walk in a minute after him or go to the bathroom in the middle of class. if your cell phone rings be prepared to get a look that could kill. tests are worded very unclearly, thick accent makes him hard to understand. do not take.
Batitsky IS the thin line between love and hate! Despite of extremely hard exams, obsession with lateness and the dirty looks for eating in class, he is among a group of "true professors".
Complain about his accent all you want, but show me a native English speaking prof. with such eloquence as Batitsky.
Batitsky has to be one of the wisest professors out there. Very intelligent. His class is pretty easy if you attend everyday and do the assigned reading. NEVER be late!!! and put your phone on silent,he gives a look that could kill. Good prof.
Not the most pleasant person in the world by far, but he commands his subject material well. Does he have to speak about himself in the third person all the time?
arogant and boring
this is the only philosophy class where i actually learned something. i understood 90% of the material. he gives a review sheet which is basically an outline for the exam. pretty easy class if u apply urself, read the book, and study for exams.
very interesting class.just don't be late!
A true professor and a great mind. Take advantage of it. It's sooo worth it. Requires some work but fairly straightforward. Go to class or you will be lost.
3 Tests throughout the semester that are really easy.
batisky is one of the meanest people alive...he gets joy out of failing people..he thinks his students are beneath him and calls everyone ignorant
No Comments
Batitsky knows his subject and that is why he has a doctorate. He is stubborn, uncompromising, and machine like. If a person comes late he does not show human character of understanding. I personally believe that all these degrees are useless if you do not know how to be a human being.
Dropthe class while your ahead, he sucks and his multiple choice test are hard!!!!!!!!!!
i hated this class and it wasn't even totally his fault. The subject matter is insane but he does the best he can. DON'T EVER BE LATE!!!!! If looks could kill the one he gives you when you're late would take out the entire planet.
He's a great professor and he teaches in such a way that you remember it. It's just a shame that a man of his brillance can be so close minded as to argue that God doesn't exist just because he can't talk to us through an imaginary box.
Do yourself a huge favor and dont take this man! The material is so hard and confusing and i sit in his class every day asking myself why I'm learning math equations instead of philosophy. Dont ever be late or have your phone ring! He will embarass you so bad and make you wanna cry!
It's the only class I haven't fallen asleep in. I've never encountered such a great mind. He's brilliant! Intellectual discussions, 3 tests with review sheets beforehand...excellent class if you have even a remote interest in philosophy.
Very enthusiastic
he knows his stuff but is not merciful in grading. even if he sees u trying he is not likly to pass you. 3 exama all multiple choice but its hard and very boring. DNT BE LATE TO HIS CLASS.
great professor. great mind. easy tests with review sheets before the exams. take him. but study well in order to get an A.
Batistky is an excellen professor of philosophy. Too bad he only teaches introductory courses on the subject and too bad his texbook is only a digest of original sources. Besides that, an easy A if you attend and do the readings.
Alright teacher. A bit unclear with test questions, but he does give the questions for the test beforehand. 3 multple choice tests, no papers. And he may be a bit arrogant, but he knows his stuff very well.
his class was very interesting and i learned a lot from attending. attendance isnt needed, but its best if you go and listen in. the passages are explained thoroughly and it makes much more sense after he explains it. theres only 3 tests and he gives review sheets for them. PHIL2240 might seem like a boring subject, but i found it to be exciting.
Certified genius. Very well educated. He really knows his stuff. The tests are middle of the road (you need to study for them...plus, try and do some of the readings). If he knows your name, he pumps your grade up. Take him. He is pretty easy and you will learn a thing or two because is so smart.
Great Professor, I hated Philosophy until I took his class. Really a smart guy you can not get a better Philosophy Professor. Only 3 test, you must be on time to his class.
Amazing professor, he's a genious when it comes to philosophy and he has a way of explaining the subject, that doesn't leave you dumbfounded. There are only 3 exams which account for your entire grade, listen in class and do the readings and you'll be fine. The text book is easy to read and Batitsky's easy to follow. Great philosophy professor.

Great professor. Very funny and sarcastic which makes a hard topic like Philosophy actually fun. He has a unique comical way of teaching and it is very helpful.
he is the love of my life, the best.
He gives the questions for the test & the answers are not even in the book. Horrible!!!!!!!!!!
just great. very clear. knows his subject so well. the best philosophy professor at sju
easy A. 3 mupltiple choice exams with review sheet ahead. go to class regularlly as he gives stuff that is not in the book.
He is a great professor, he disses out SJU A LOT but extremely funny. The exams are hard but the books are easy to read.
great. he makes things seem easy and explains very well. if you find his exams hard, then that is your problem b/c he actually goes over everything. brilliant mind. the best hil professor at sju
Very HOT and PHILOSOPHICAL!!!
Three M.C. Tests. Gives study questions before test. Do your readings and you should be fine.Pretty funny in class, however class does get boring at times.
TeRiFfIc
3 tests and gives you a study sheet for each one. Class can get veeeery boring, but you don't have to attend each one. Good professor.
Fairly easy as long as you show up to class. Gives good examples which make philosophy of all subjects understandable. Gives out study sheets before each exam which outline the material on the tests. Class can get a little tedious but he tries to joke around. I would recommend this class over other philosophy classes.
Definitely one of the best profs at st.johns.
There are exams but they are hard. Take it if you know whats going on, if not, buy the book (it's really difficult to understand). He explains things in matter if you dont agree with him, he's going to make you feel stupid. He thinks everybody working for SJU is stupid as well as NY-ers
You either hate him or love him. No one seems to fall in between. Not a particularly pleasant man, but worthwhile anyway and intelligent.
If you consider yourself an intelligent person and you can handle a serious class, you'll probably love him. One of the most intelligent profs at St. Johns. Subject matter is serious but if you pay attention and go to class everything is clearly explained. 3 Multp.choice tests.Don't ever be late though!!
This man is evil. I went to almost every class, read the 2 books, studied for his 3 multiple choice tests and participated in class discussions. And he failed me
He is a brilliant man who really loves what he is teaching and wishes to share that love with his students...If you are interested in science or math, this class deals deeply with both, and is very interesting There are only three exams and they are not too hard, but you have to be prepared for them. Listen carefully to how he states things himself
good professor
Fantastic professor.
great professor
one of the best professors at st john's. an absolutely brilliant man. great sense of humor. explains everything well. 3 multiple choice tests. def buy the book or borrow it from somone before the test. he also gives u study questions so if u answer them before the test u will have no problem getting an A. u dont have to take notes, but be on time!!
Very passionate about his field. No midterm, no final. 4 tests on your notes. It's not necessary to read the book to understand what's going on, but he does follow concepts presented in the text. He gives specific examples that often show up on tests during his lectures, so, while attendance isn't mandatory, it is pertinent. A great class overall.
Prof. B is probably one of the best phil 3000 prof @ sju. although attendance is not mandatory don't ever be late and make sure your cell phone is OFF. he gets pretty pissed about it. textbook helps you understand the material but as long as you take notes and follow along in class and can answer all the questions on the review sheet your set!
Great teacher. Three exams, no final. Is very clear and is very good at explaining abstract concepts. Attendance isn't mandatory but going to class makes it alot easier. Study the review sheet he gives you a week before each test and you'll have no problem getting an A.
He is a really good teacher. He knows what he's talking about but trust me when I say DON'T BE LATE !!! I like the fact that there are only 3 exams for the class but that could work for or against you if you know what you want.
extremely boring. his monotone voice puts you to sleep and the subjects he covers are not even what other philosophy professors cover. No final or midterm, just 3 tests and he adds them all up and gets the average, which becomes your grade. Avoid if you can.
Batitsky is wonderful. One of the smartest men I have ever met in my life. Very clear with concepts, always making class interesting, funny guy - will make at least one joke per class. Attendance is not mandatory but if you want to do well on his 3 exams you should go to class. Gives Study sheets, exams are tricky, use the sheets..DON'T BE LATE
Absolutely great prof. He has innate sense of sarcasm and humor and I never laughed so much in a class in my life! (AND this IS a PHILO class) Exams are extremely straight-forward IF you study the review sheet; no surprise questions. Only drawback is that he is a little rude to the students and you WILL get your point refuted if you disagree.
good professor, condenses the text in the classroom to point where its understandable and easy to grasp, review sheets are practically the test, 3 non-****ulative tests only, class is not mandatory but its best if u go in and take good notes, if u take good notes, you dont even need to read the text!
One of the easiest professors I've ever had at STJ. All you have to do is show up for class, listen to his lecture and take notes. He only gives 3 Multiple-choice tests which are ridiculously easy because he gives you a review sheet in advance. In addition, you can solve the sheet and go over the answers with him. If you want an A, take his class!
1st of all DONT BE LATE he stares you down and its funny to watch if its not you. He knows his subject and likes when you participate or ask intellectual questions. Attendance not required but he helps you understand philo in an easy way and the subject is still confusing. Philosophy has not answers, everything is unsolved!
Very funny and intelligent. Easy class with only 3 MC tests. Just read the book and use the study sheets he emails. Attendance is not mandatory but worth it. You'll learn a lot about the different theories of mind and even artificial intelligence! He gives clear explanations and has a great sense of humor. I recommend him for all PHI core classes!
To somebody, he is tough, harsh and scary. But his teaching style is great. He makes Philo becomes easier to understand. Although attendance is not mandatory but highly recommend b/c you can't get good grade by just reading the book. The book is confusing to understand! Go to him after class to ask questions, he is willing to help.
Great professor! He does not care if you are late as long you walk in and sits there and hear his lecture.
I love this guy. Class is boring but he makes his points in great ways and hes really funny. Told the class to give him nasty horrible reviews so that he doesnt have to grade as many papers next term. 3 MC tests and his review sheets basically cover all the questions. Minimal reading. For a core class hes a good prof teaching a boring subject.
Wonderful Professor, gives 3 multiple choice exams, he says no curves but if the class gets a low grade, he curves it. DEFINITELY TAKE!
Excellent Professor...He really makes students learn what Metaphysics is about...He's very nice and helpful, don't be fooled by his appearance, sometimes it can be deceivingly...
DOn't be late!!!! No curve on test...No homeworks and papers...Your grade is solely base on tests...Do not take him if you have a choice...He is one of the worse professors at St. John's
He is the worst professor ever!!I can't understand how anyone would say he is good. I can not stand him. He is an arrogant a**. Clearly he does not believe in God so don't try and fight him on this issue either.Plus there is no way to ever raise your grade it is what it is and he doesn't give a shi*
This guy is one of worse professors at St. John's, maybe the worse. He does not care about you. Do NOT take him even if you don't have a choice....Absolutely No curve...
He's a wonderful professor, I took him for phil 1000 and 2240. Just 3 MC exams and your good. I learned a lot from him and he's really nice. He may look mean, but he wouldn't hurt a fly..i think..lol ne who TAKE HIM
He is very strict on lateness he'd rather you not be there than be late.He prefers you dont use the bathroom during his class. He only gives 3 tests no homework and no curve whatsoever. He dosent care that you try he believes that why try if your not going to succede. But if you attend class and study you'll do fine.
horrible teacher! no homework, hard to stay awake during class, every class there was someone snoring heavily. his tests are hard, studying is useless. DO NOT TAKE HIMMMMMMMMMMMMM UNLESS YOU ENJOY TORTURING YOURSELF.
Are you kidding me? He is the easiest prof ever! So what if he has issues with students being late? Just be there on time!...its not that hard...No homeworks, no attendance, explains everything clearly, only 3 m/c tests based on 30 pages each!!! so there is barely any reading...easiest A
hates lateness. LOVE HIM! the man =]
Take Dr. Batitsky's Phil-1000C on-line course. HIGHLY recommended. You'll write about the readings and have the chance to revise them to help get good grades. Tests are MC and easy if you study. He gives you study questions for all the exams at the start of the course. Put in the work & you'll do just fine & learn SO SO much. He is the BEST!!!
Study questions for all exams given in advance. If you put in the work, you get a good grade.
He is a horrible professor. Basically to get an A in the class, you need to just read the book - going to class actually hinders your comprehension of the material. He is rude and asks for your opinion but interupts you to tell you want you should think. He is a horrible professor to sit through, just be able to read and take a mulitple choice test
Online course requires 8 short papers (~3 pages long), according to clearly described format. He gives four exams, with study questions available from the beginning of the course. It is not too hard to get good grade, but you still have to put in work and read the textbook and all the handouts he provides.
one of the professors that think not everyone can pass the class. he choose one student who he fail without consideration to his /her performance. online class has 8 papers 4 exams ( not easy questions). not helpful at all. previous student said he changed recently, became more aggressive.
He is a horrible professor and not helpful at all. He is very rude and obnoxious. You can submit your assigment prior to the due date for his review but his critiques aren't helpful at all. I witnessed a student reach out to him for help on-line, they went back and forth with each other until he finally suggested to drop the class!
In online course (Phi 1000) he responded on submitted papers quickly (within couple of days), and his comments were quite detailed. Not an easy "A" type of guy, but not too hard either. You need to do some work to get good grade.
He is a great professor!! four tests, he gives you study guides. just understand what you are taught- everything on the study guide are in the tests. If you take good notes you will not need to read the book. Everything on the study guide was in my notes. Great professor- just pay attention, take good notes and you'll do great! he's not bad at all!
This guy seems intimidating at first, but he really isn't that terrible. In fact, he never gives out any homework except for four papers throughout the whole semester...along with just four exams, which are straight from the study guides, textbook and handouts. Just do your work, pay attention in class, don't stress too much, and you will be fine.
My favorite professor at SJU by far. I was absolutely dreading taking a Philosophy class, but this man could make a class of wathing paint dry interesting. He is hysterically funny and so sarcastic. His tests are easy--very straightforward and directly from the book and his handouts. TAKE HIM!
great professor and great class
Don't come late to class, he hates it. I went to class everyday. He clarifies the readings very well and provides more examples to help you comprehend the readings. Provides additional handouts which are additional readings from the book. Classmates said tests were tricky, but I never had a problem with the wording. Finny guy too. Take him.
Highly recommend his online class. Posts very detailed instructions for the course at the beginning of the semester then over the rest of the semester it's just up to you to do the work. Only 6 easy three-page papers and 4 tests.
Summer Online Phil 1000 course was very good. Only 4 short papers (2-3 pages). Study questions and reading assignments for each of the four multiple choice exams were available from the beginning of the course. Exams were closely based on study questions. Recommended!
POINT BLANK WORST PROFESSOR EVER. Tests have nothing to do with what he teaches and he doesn't even try to help. I went to him for help on numerous occasions and got turned down every single time. I am a straight A student and I got a D+ in his class. WORST PROFESSOR EVER.
Study questions and reading assignments for each of the four exams were available from the first day of the course. I did badly on one of the exams, but in the end he excluded the lowest exam score from determining the final grade. Ended up with "A" for the course. Not too hard, but don't come late to class! He hates lateness!
I took him online, he lays out what he wants from you at the start. During Fall/Spring 6 Papers worth 30% of your grade and 4 exams worth 70% of your grade. He doesn't help you with anything. But he does provide study guides for each exam which are very similar to the actual exam. He will not hold your hand. The textbooks will be your best friends.
He's one of the worst professors I've ever had here. When I needed help with an assignment he just told me to reread the guidelines. It's an online class so all you do is read the assigned books and if you don't understand something then too bad, he won't be of any help. If you're like me and have a hard time grasping Philo, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
Took him for philosophy of the human person. You MUST read the textbook to grasp the information. I attended all of his classes and was able to understand everything after reading the text NOT by attending his class. I went to his office hours constantly, even on a Saturday and he is not helpful at all. I felt as if he was turning me down.
Took his online Phil 2200 (ETHICS). Everything about the course was spelled out in detail. Study questions for each exam were available from day one. Exams (mult. choice) followed study questions closely. Writing assignments were just 2-3 p. summaries of book chapters, with guiding questions provided for each paper. The course wasn't hard at all.
This guy is awful. Useless if you need help. If you enjoy reading for hours and writing papers for hours than take him
He may not be as funny as he thinks he is, but he knows how to make philosophy really interesting. Multiple choice exams are pretty easy. Just don't come to his class late! Recommended.
He's actually a really good teacher, if you pay attention he makes a lot of jokes that are really funny. Never go late to his class and don't use your phone or laptop, just pay attention and you'll be fine. He gives you everything from the first day and the one textbook he assigns helps a lot. Recommended!
In a nutshell, this professor is very straight forward. If you want an A go to his class, take some notes, show up for all his tests (I only had four) and don't be late or use electronics. Read the notes and book before tests and you'll do fine. Also he raises you a grade if you don't come late or use the phone.
Dr. VB is extremely uncompromising when it comes to the syllabus. Just be aware of the fact that he is beyond rigid, like a computer program really. He generally will not respond to student e-mails, and if he does it will be several weeks later. His papers are very simple and straight forward and do not require analysis and tests are cake.
nice man unless you are late to his class he gets mad. Gives all the information for the tests if you study it you should be fine. no attendance is taken. don't sleep or use electronics in his class.
You pretty much have to go to every class in order to pass the test. You're grade for the class is based off of only four tests, no homework, quizzes, papers, or projects.
He gives E handouts and review sheets of what will be on the exam and exactly that is on the exam but ofc with different wording so it makes you think *duh philosophy; attendance not mandatory; if you go don't be late or on the phone but you def have to read the material a couple of times and take notes on important stuff and understand to get an A
I got an A in the class because i read the textbook, went to every class, and took notes. He's really into philosophy and makes situations relatable to every day life. Good professor. He gives handouts and study guides for each exam. if you answer the study questions your in good shape for all tests. Don't be late to class. No Hw. Just 4 exams
Everything is clear from the beginning, going to class really helps but it isn't mandatory. Don't come late or use your phone and you'll get extra points on your final grade. Just read and answer the study questions and you'll be good.
Most of this class is self taught through reading assignments.
Had him last semester. There wasn't much work, besides four tests, and the answers for them were straight from the readings. He can be pretty entertaining for a philosophy professorjust don't come in late or use your phones in class; those are his pet peeves.
AVOID AVOID AVOID. You get a laundry list of assignments and a miticuluois syllabus at the beginning. You will not hear from him all semester. Extremely tough grader. Will give a failing grade for not understanding but teaches nothing. Won't answer emails but will give you a laundry list of every single thing done wrong in an assignment..
Took his online Phi 2200. Everything about the course was laid out from day one. Four multiple choice exams based on provided study questions which tell you pretty much everything about each exam. Short 2-3 p. papers (one every two weeks) on assigned topics, basically just summaries of parts of textbook. Not a hard course if you follow the rules.
Lectures reiterate what you should know, but everything you needed in order to do well on tests were in his folder that he uploaded to blackboard. The folder is extremely helpful, USE IT. His lectures are a combination of the textbook and sheets that he puts into the folder. Read them, answer the study guide questions, and you'll do really well.
He only gives four pretty hard tests, so if you aren't a good test taker don't take this class!
There wasn't much to read, but careful reading was essential because Metaphysics is kinda weird. 4 mult-choice exams with detailed study questions provided in advance. 4 short papers (3 p.) based on textbook with 'points' to be covered also provided in advance. Didn't care for the subject, but getting through wasn't hard.
His test are Hard. They are very specific. He is a strict grader when it comes to papers.
He gives half-grade bonus for "class participation" (basically not coming late to class and not using cellphone). Exams follow study questions pretty closely and he will go over these questions with you if you come to his office hours (I did for one of the exams). If you read the textbook and don't skip lectures, you'll be OK.
Took his ethics class online. Class is extremely straight forward. Grade consists of six papers (one every two weeks) and four exams (one a month). Do the reading and you'll be fine. For a tough course, this class is not bad at all compared to some of the other philosophy professors. Would recommend.
I am not a big fan of philosophy so taking this class was meh. The subject of the class though differs a lot from the philosophy 1000C classes. As long as you do not use your phone and do not show to class late, he will raise your grade by the next grade level. Read and listen and you will be OK. His tests are MC but a bit tricky
Took his online Metaphysics. 4 MC exams, not too easy, but not too hard either because of detailed study questions. 4 short papers (3 p.) with topics and outlines provided in advance. Missed one paper (just forgot about due date), but still ended up with A for the course. He is very strict about course rules, but at least the rules are clear.
Horrible professor doesn't care about personal or family issues. Will not let you retake a test for any reason, and will fail you if you miss a test. No leniency, he also doesn't care about you, just your money.
If you do your reading (there isn't that much) and follow the course rules/deadlines, it isn't hard to do well in this online course. Detailed study questions for each of the 4 MC exams, detailed guidelines for each 3p. summary paper. The subject is kinda goofy, but compared to Calculus or Biochemistry it didn't hurt my brain.
I'm taking his online Ethics class, his material is easy and the topics I enjoy, but he is the rudest professor I've ever come across and if you don't write his papers EXACTLY how his confusing, unclear, hypocritical requirements say, he will fail you, regardless of well written it is, I would not recommend him or ever take him again.
The material itself wasn't too hard, but his attitude is the WORST. Straight A student all my life - earned my first ever 'D' in his class. He gives four tests and six papers but he basically just wants you to spit the textbook back to him. Gives little to no feedback, but the few words he does say are plain rude. Avoid him at all costs!!
Took his online Ethics last Fall. Not a hard course at all. Exams (MC) based closely on study questions. One 3p paper every 2 wks is just a summary of a chapter from the textbook. Not too much to read either, but deadlines for assignments are very strict. If you follow the rules, you can do well without straining your brain too much.
Professor Batitsky is very clear about what he expects, and everything is laid out from day one. 4 exams and 6 short 3 pg papers on the readings, which were actually interesting. He also provides guiding questions for the exams by Learning Modules, so use it! This isn't a hard class if you actually take time to read and understand the readings.
He was the rudest professor I have had to deal with. His online class, he posts everything for the entire semester on Blackboard and never teaches anything for the rest of the year. His tests are difficult, considering he taught us not a single thing and he gives papers every two weeks. However, his comments are flat out rude and justnot necessary
4 MC exams, but no comprehensive final, so you don't have to recall at the end of the semester what you've read 3 months earlier. Half-grade bonus for class participation (you get it basically for not coming late to class and not using cell phone). Lectures are really good, sometimes very funny, and contain interesting stuff outside philosophy.
If you read the book you will get an A. It's not a lot of reading, I read the day before the test and get A's.
This online Ethics was the best organized online course I've had. Everything was laid out from day one - reading assignments and study questions for each exam, topics and guidelines for each paper (3p every two weeks). Just following the guidelines and course rules got me an "A" without much sweat at all.
Only graded on a few tests that are pretty challenging. You have to take a lot of notes and read the book and handouts. You can pass if u study book and don't go to class. He doesnt take attendance. No electronic use at all!!!! do not be late or he will lower your grade and embarrass you. His lectures are long and heavy but interesting .
He provides study questions for each exam (there are a total of 4). The exams are not difficult if you do the reading and take decent notes. Do not be late or be on your phone, otherwise your grade will be penalized. His lectures are long but interesting. Make sure you go to class because the material can get confusing sometimes.
There was not much to read in his online Metaphysics, but the material is kind of dense and needs attention. Detailed study questions for each exam definitely helped. Short papers (just summaries of book chapters) were easy because he provides detailed "guideline questions" for each paper.
He is clear on what he expects but I misinterpreted a section on his expectations of his papers and I paid the price. His comments are very rude and he's not lenient at all. So make sure you understand the work and do it right or he'll fail you.
Took his Ethics Phi 2200 last summer. 4 short papers (basically 3p summaries of textbook parts) and 4 MC exams. He provides detailed study questions for exams, and each paper topic comes with a list of things that need to be covered. Due dates are strict, but otherwise not a difficult course at all if you read the textbook.
Thus professor does not care to fail you. He is the hardest grader I ever had. If you don't write his papers specifically how he wants it, he will give you a terrible grade. Beyond upset with his grading style. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
He is very strict about deadlines for assignments. But otherwise this was not a hard course because everything about assignments and exams was laid out in great detail from the start. And there wasn't that much to read either.
He basically reads the textbook to you but rephrases it. No use no use of tech in his class at all. He is extremely picky about lateness so be careful.
He's pretty straightforward, don't be late and don't be on your phone or he'll get super pissed. 4 tests, he gives you the questions in a study sheet, those are the exact questions on his tests, answers are in the textbook. I only showed up to class the day of the tests. He knows what he's doing, not a bad class but not amazing either
4 tests in the semester make up ur grade. If u study ull be fine!
This online Metaphysics summer course was really well organized - everything laid out in detail in advance. Four MC exams (study questions available from day one). Four short (3p) summaries (with detailed guidelines provided in advance). If you do the reading (there isn't much), you should be fine.
I love this class because attendance is not mandatory and there are only four tests given per semester with no midterms or finals. The tests are multiple choice and to pass, just read your textbook which contain short readings and read his handouts.
Terrible professor doesn't give office hours and refuses to meet with his students. Shouldn't be a professor.
The best online course I've taken so far. The rules are simple and easy; the workload is modest; and everything - study questions, reading assignments, schedule of due dates - is available from day one.
His lectures are very clear and often funny. He gives 1/2 grade bonus simply for not using cellphone in class and not coming late. Very detailed exam study questions too, and exams are closely based on them. And these study questions tell you exactly what you need to look up in the textbook to do well on the test. Great class!
4 MC tests and no final. If you do the reading (not much) and don't come to class late, you will be just fine.
MC tests are very straightforward based directly on the textbook and handouts. No comprehensive final. Half-grade bonus for not using cellphones in class and not coming in late. Recommended.
I took this course online and had a terrible experience. I am extremely confused how other reviews are positive based on how this man treated ALL his students. My experience online specifically was horrible. Expect no feedback, no extra help, and to untimely not do well in the course.
I liked Ethics more than other phil courses because it deals with real world moral issues. And textbook was very clear, easy to read plain english. Compared to some other courses (psych, hist) there was less to read and write (four 3p. summaries and 4 MC tests with no final). Recommended!
His ethics class is really straight forward. There are 6 papers, and 4 multiple choice exams. He gives a review sheet for each exam, so the exams are pretty easy, He grades the papers a bit harshly, so you need to be a good writer to do well in this course. The textbook in this course is easy to read, and is actually interesting.
The papers are easy, you can find the answers in the textbook without looking too hard. He gives a review sheet before each exam. On the exam, he rewords the questions from the review sheet. His comments on papers are not that bad as others have claimed.
This summer course had 4 easy papers (2-3p summaries of parts of textbook) and 4 MC tests based on detailed study questions. No midterm, no final. If you don't forget about due dates, that's a pretty easy course.
AWFUL!!!!!!!!! do not take this course he is the meanest and most rude professor ever. he has no consideration and is a terrible grader. he probably doesn't even read the paper and just gives everyone an F. worst guy ever.
online Phi 2200 ETHICS was a breeze. absolutely very detail about the course laid out clearly on Blackboard, all dates, readings and study questions for exams (4 MC) available from day one. Each short paper (2-3 p. summary of textbook) given list of items to cover, saving huge amount of time. Rules are strict, but clear and simple. Not a hard A
TERRIBLE. Online Phi 2200 Ethics was very difficult and this professor was the WORST IVE EVER HAD. Not helpful at all, very sassy and rude to communicate with and I would not recommend to anyone. I highly suggest taking a different professor for this class because this one is absolutely ridiculous. Should have been an easy class and was not.
Metaphysics is weird, but this was a pretty easy online course. 4 short papers (3p. summary of textbook with a list of 'points' to be covered given in advance) and 4 MC tests (detailed study questions available from day one). Deadlines are strict, but everything is very clear. A bit of reading and keeping track of due dates is all that's needed.
Ethics was my second course with this prof. I like that he ads 1/2 grade bonus to final grade just for not using cellphone in class or coming late (attendance as such is not mandatory). 4 short MC exams (< 40 questions) with pretty detailed study questions available from the start of the semester. And his lectures sometimes are hilarious.
Professor Batitsky's summer course was a bit intimidating at first, I won't lie. However, all of his requirements are laid out from the very beginning of the course and as long as they are followed to a T, you should have no problem getting a good grade on the papers. Tests are worded a bit strangely but the answers are directly in the textbook.
Thought the syllabus looked great (4 papers & 4 exams for the entire semester). He gives you a section of textbook pages to read every 3 weeks(exam and paper on). You have to be SUPER specific in your papers, (got an F on one). Exams were HARD. His study guide is questions but doesnt help. Had to write post it notes for each page to pass the tests
He gives final grade bonus just for submitting all work on time. Detailed study questions for each exam available from day one. Detailed outlines for each short (3p) paper also available from day one. Due dates for each assignment are posted at the start of the semester. You have to be really really lazy not to do well in this course.
The worst professor I've ever taken at st johns. Don't take him for an online class! I took him and he gave me an F on my first paper and said i copied everything out of the wrong textbook. Meanwhile, I didn't. When i tried to discuss my F with him he simply didn't know how to communicate with a student. WORST PROF EVER !!!!! STAY AWAY
Easy "A" if you simply read the rules carefully, do the assigned readings (not much), and submit all work on time. Full-grade bonus added to final grade just for submitting all course work by specified due dates.
Terrible ! I did amazing on all his papers and then had a glitch with my laptop to upload one of my Phil papers. I had all the proof and he didn't care. He doesn't provide any substantial feedback and literally makes you work for that grade. TAKE A DIFF ETHICS PROFESSOR ! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND ENERGY AWFULLLLLLL
There are 4 papers and 4 exams which he gives study guides for. On some exams there were questions where 2 answers seemed right which messed me up a lot but i still got an A from extra credit for submitting work on time. Carefully follow instructions when writing papers, read the chapters before exams (not much) and you should ace the course.
He is a very interesting professor. You get 4 tests and essay and is very strict on what he wants in his paper. Even though it might not be the way you write your essays, just follow the format he gives you. Gives a full letter grade curve so I got an A that way. Show him respect and he'll like you!
Prof. Batitsky's class is a bit intimidating when it comes to writing your first paper, but eventually you will get the hang of it; make sure to read the paper requirements carefully as things need to be done a specific way. There's 4 quizzes/4 papers. As long as you do the work and turn it in on time, he will jump your average 2 letter grades.
HONESTLY NEVER TAKE IT ONLINE. He basically told me to drop the class. Yeah there is 4 tests and 4 papers. The tests were obviously worded by someone in 1400's because I couldn't understand a think. Never EVER take it. Worst experience in SJU.
This class had 4 tests and 4 papers which was a lot but it was manageable. The papers were 3 - paged which was okay and the exams were all MC. I have to say his wording is very tricky like you have two answers on the exam that are very similar yet there's a slight in difference in them that messed me up a lot.
Everything is laid out for you in the first week of the semester. You have to keep an eye for the deadlines; 4 exams, 4 papers. The exams and papers are due on the same period. His papers are very easy, just summaries of a few pages of the book. However, his exams can be tricky since two answers always seem similar, but choose your gut feeling!
