This guy is possibly the best UIC has to offer. This man really cares for his students. there are 3 quizzes; fairly easy. His exams are descent. He gave us a trick problem on one exam but his good excellent teaching more than makes up for it. Homework is optional but you should do it. Has no accent. He is very nice. take ece w/ him. Grades nicely.

Vahe is a great teacher. He explains things very clearly and his exams are fair. If you don't understand your other subjects, he might actually explain them better! Would love to take some more courses with Vahe, but unfortunately I am graduating soon, so that won't happen. But if you have a chance, I highly recommend this guy!!!

He is a very nice teacher who actually cares about his students. He is also a good teacher who keeps his lectures lively. Very knowledgeable although sometimes he has the tendency to get over excited and keeps talking if you go to his office :) All in all very competent professor who has experience in the industry but still knows how to teach

This is my third class with this teacher and I have to say that he is the one of the best UIC has to offer. A very nice guy who really knows his material and how to teach. Has multiple quizzes through out the semester and one final which is optional. Take him!!

Vahe is the BEST ECE professor at UIC hands down. He quit his higher paying job just to teach students. He loves his job and what he does. He is very helpful and a very reasonable guy. UIC needs more professors like him. Take classes with Vahe!!

Quite possibly the best teacher at UIC across any department. Cares about his students and is willing to help you out. If you put in the time you should have no trouble getting an A or B in the class.

WOW.Before you take Vahe please review past material. He goes over the material pretty fast. So if your a slowpoke do not take any of his classes. This guy wants you to learn the hard way which is the good way, meaning that you must understand the material in order to pass his class

Please stay away from vahe if you have hard time understanding the material.He goes over his notes and examples very quick. He never repeats quizzes or exams. He really enjoys problems with sketching. Most of his quizzes are tricky.

Great teacher. Highly interested in seeing his students learn as opposed to just passing the tests. He switches quizes/midterms/finals every semester. He makes sure to throw in small "tricks" into his midterms so that you can't just memorize formulas. If you are interested this class should not be hard to pass with a high grade

Vahe is a solid dude. Great teacher, fun to talk to. He is a great lecturer too. The book for this class is HORRIBLE though. It is almost useless. The lectures and the book really don't correlate very well. Go to EVERY lecture and take good notes. I skipped some Friday lectures early on and payed dearly for it.

This guy is great. He clearly explains everything in the material and will repeat it over an over so that it's ingrained in your brain. He gives you examples about how the material he teaches is used in industry. He is gracious in grading and will follow your work and give you points even if you made a mistake that changed the problem (compute n).

One of the best prof's in the dept. The material is not meant to be easy but his lectures go a long way, so attend every class and be prepared to take good notes for studying. Very easy to talk to if you are having trouble with the material or issues with the course.

If you desire learning the subject instead of memorizing then this is the professor for you.

If you wish to learn fundamentals or gain fundamental knowledge to solve any relevant problem take his class. I follow one rule at UIC. If coach Vahe teaches a class, you take it!

Good professor with clear explanation.

Professor Vahe is simply the best professor in the ECE department. I had him for ECE342, ECE410, ECE412, ECE396/397. I also had him as my advisor for my senior design group. This man is so great at teaching that he had a class of 90 students in his 400 level class which is almost unheard of.

Best teacher in ECE department. If you are lucky enough to get into one of his classes before it fills up, you will learn a lot in all of his classes. If hes teaching a class take it!

Excellent class taught by Vahe! He will teach beyond the equations and how everything applies in the real world. Makes easy quizzes. He could have chosen more difficult problems but he tries to make it simple for everyone. Makes final optional so the people who work hard get to relax and focus on their other classes at the end of the semester

Best Professor ever. clear, funny, friendly and easy to understand from. You'll love to attend his lectures. His focus is to make you understand not to memorize anything. I hope I can take all of my classes with him. Don't make Kirchhoff angry and take his classes.

Vahe is one of the best ECE professors at UIC. His lectures are interesting, and he is very down to earth. He does his best to explain concepts that are difficult and it is very clear that he is passionate about the subject matter that he teaches. His exams can be tricky, but if you pay attention, he shows you all the tricks in class/homework/labs

Vahe taught this class for the first time ever. He is a very smart professor and helpful as well. He seemed a little unprepared to teach the course but as the semester went on he seemed more focused. Exams are easy if you study. Do the HW and go to lab. I could have gotten a better grade but decided to slack off in his class.

Vahe means thinking, thinking, and thinking. you don't want to think don't even bother taken his class. he encourage you to think differently. I love the way he writes his own HW, and exam. yes I had a C in his class but you know what that C to me worths more than many A's I got at UIC. very friendly, I always go to his office for advice.

Really Good Professor. I took ECE 115 and although it was a tough class, an A is attainable with work.

He makes complex concepts seem as easy as middle school math. That said, you HAVE TO study his previous exams and do the homework if you want to do well on the tests. He posts all solutions to his homework and previous midterms so you have plenty of study material though. As long as you're not lazy, his class is great.

ECE is a difficult subject, but Vahe make's everything so easy to understand. Class is tough but very fair. Do all the homework, don't skip class, and go to office hours often and you will do really well. One of the best professors I've ever taken. His jokes are really bad most of the time, but has a great personality and a very down to earth guy.

He is a GENIUS! Even though he has a Phd. from MIT, he really knows how to break the subject down for his students to grasp. He also gives amazing advices in general about anything, so definitely show up to his office hours, even if its just to say hey. His exams are very easy if you pay attention in class. Take him for any ECE course!

Great professor, he is very clear but you have to pay attention to every detail. Exams are kind of difficult but if you go to class and study all the extra exercises he gives, you will be fine. He curves generously and his lectures are very interesting and funny. I really liked this class :)

Outstanding class. Humor is his main weapon in making it fun, and his ability to relate concepts for students is endless. Don't cheat in his class or you're gone. HW is easy. Tests are easy. If you get a high enough grade you don't need to take the final. Easy A.

There is no reason you should not get an A. Do your part in being a student and he will fulfill his part in teaching. I got a B only cause I started getting sidetracked during the middle. Easily could've gotten an A. He is funny, extremely intelligent and teaches you about the real world as well. Take classes with him if you can!!

One of the best professors I've had. He really knows how to break down the concepts and explain them in a simple and clear way. Also he's so hilarious and really cares about us understanding the concepts. Pay attention in class, do the homeworks, and getting an A should be easy. Take him if you ever get the chance. He's such a great professor.

Hands down best Professor I've ever taken! He Makes difficult concepts very easily understood. He some how makes it super easy to get an A while still making sure you learn a lot. I'm usually a B student with my best effort and his class was an easy A BUT I learned more then I think I ever have in a class! This man has a gift, take him!

Very good professor, if you show up to class and pay attention you WILL get an A. He knows how to explain problems in simple terms and he tells you what types of problems will be on exams. I did not have much time for this class and slacked the semester and still got a B.

Tests are really easy, sample test will be provided. Try it out at least once and you will get an A

Vahe is one of the best professors I have taken. Very intelligent and a phenomenal lecturer. He drops one exam including the final so make sure you study well before each exam so you can opt out of the final.

I didn't really find his lecture notes to be helpful, but he uploads them to Blackboard after every lecture. Gives out old exams to study for upcoming exams. He hates people that don't come to class, and then ask for help on piazza later. If he already answered the question in class, he pretty much ignores your question or gives a rude response.

He is the best professor I have taken yet. He is funny, he is an excellent lecturer, he was able to wake up an 8 am lecture. That being said he doesn't like people who don't show up. He drops your lowest exam grade which is helpful. Make sure you do the HW even though it is not mandatory the exam questions are basically the same thing.

Took ece115 with him. He explains the material well. He usually post notes online and test are almost always very similar to test from previous semesters which are also available online with solutions.

Best professor ever! He actually care about how you are doing in his class. He makes attending his lectures worth a while. He is HILARIOUS! Just make sure you go to lectures otherwise it will be hard to pass this class.

Wonderful professor, extremely smart and funny (dad jokes). Easy grader. You don't need a book for his class, he spends most of the time solving problems during lectures. Similar type of problems would be on exams. It was an easy A for 115 and 225. I'm not sure why he ended up applying such a huge curve. So long as you study you will get an easy A

Professor Vahe is amazing! His lectures are the best. He really cares about his students. All he asks is that you do your work with full integrity. Homeworks will be assigned but it's not for a grade, its for your own benefit and will be very helpful during the exam.

I have taken multiple classes with Prof. Vahe. He is one of my favorite professors. As always he give a good amount of homework but if you have an understanding of the homework you will be set for the exams. Also if you need any extra material to practice he always has previous exams online. He genuinely cares about teaching his students.

He is one of the best ECE professors at UIC. There is a good amount of homework but if you understand the fundamentals of what he is teaching the homework and exams should be straight forward. He genuinely cares about teaching his students. Also his joke are a great wake to start your day of at 8 AM.

Do Homework if you want to get high grades in Exams. Vahe is good if you talk to him.

Super easy class, has lecture capture. If you do 2-3 homework problems per unit you will get at least a B. Vahe is one of the coolest professors I've had and he tries to make everyone do well. The average test scores were 60% but that was weighed down by the people who never went to class once. He also curved at the end so an 84 was an A.

This man is a legend. Not only does he teach extremely well but is also just a really good person to talk to. His classes are fairly easy as long as you pay attention and attend class. If you study exams arent too bad and theres generally a curve put on at the end of the course

As long as you do your work and pay attention/ take notes during lectures, you will pass with an A+. Do not wait until the last second to start labs, hw, or quizzes. He gives a lot of time to do them so start early.

Perfect way to start my electrical engineering degree. The class always moved at the perfect place. He really did a fantastic job transitioning this class to online.

Prof. Caliskan gave good lectures and notes. His teaching archive is the way to go where he uploads all the previous hw's, tests, and their solutions. He tells you what to expect on the tests and does sample problems with different numbers right before the day of the exams. As long as you go to class and do hw's you'll pass with a decent grade.

Amazing professor. Funny in class but make sure to actually pay attention. The material, while being introductory, is still challenging if you don't take it seriously.

ECE 115 with Professor Caliskan was awesome. It was a challenging course, but all was explained thoroughly. 10/10

Challenging course but as long as you show up to lecture & take notes, you should be fine at the end. Labs are ok. Homework is heavy having around 5 to 8 problems each with multiple parts but he helps guide you to complete a question via lecture or piazza. Do well on the first 3 exams to not take final but drops lowest exam grade if final is taken.

Prof. Vahe is one of the best teachers in the university. The exams and homework are based on his lectures, so make sure you attend them. He's funny and also interesting. I'd take any course if he's teaching it!

Caliskan is a fantastic professor. He makes the classes interesting and does a great job teaching the subjects. There are only a handful of homework assignments, the labs are interesting, and the tests are straightforward. He genuinely cares about the success of his students and has a great attitude.

As all the other comments say, Vahe's just great. Best professor? Sure. Funny? I don't recall a lecture where he didn't crack a joke. I had him for an 8 AM and never missed a lecture because I genuinely liked going to his class.

I had Vahe for both ECE 225 and ECE 412 and he is a professor that wants you to leave class with new knowledge. His sense of humor makes his courses engaging and fun. However, I wish that ECE 412 had a lab section.

Very fun lecture, makes a lot of jokes to keep everyone interested. Lots of extra material and clear solution manuals if needed. Lectures are raunchy!

Vahe is the best. I would give him one million out of 5 if I could. Took engineering 101 with him cause I don't understand wires and electricity. I still don't, but he's a cool dude .

Probably one of the best professors I've had at UIC. Homework prepares you for quizzes which prepare you for exams. Not a walk in the park but he makes it pretty clear on what you need to know to be successful.
