Vahe explains physics very clearly and he understands physics. He is very straight forward on exams so if you work hard you will get a good grade. If you don't get a good grade initially he is always opens for office hours (which he has almost every day). He is a great professor and I highly recommend you take his physics course.
In his first semester at USC he's already one of my favorite professors. He's so down to earth and understanding. He tries his best to make sure everyone understands the concepts and provides the resources you need to succeed. It's not the easiest subject but Prof. Peroomian makes it pretty doable and sorta interesting. Highly recommend!
Peroomian was a fantastic professor: he was extremely assessable, made time for any questions, and was extremely clear. He obviously wanted you to learn physics and taught concepts in a very straightforward way. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF POSSIBLE.
One of the best professors I've had. Good lecturer, good teacher, very accessible and open to students. Fair exams. Take him if you can.
Vahe's the best physics professor at USC. I've had 2 others and they cannot compare to how down to earth, open-minded and understanding this professor is. You can go into office hours feeling really down about your performance but you come out believing in yourself again. He doesn't trick you and'll explain things again even if it means repeating.
Great professor, will answer any questions you have, gives great examples, understands concepts and theories of physics. The class is pretty easy, but if you do have trouble, just ask, and he will help you out. He responds to everyones posts, and with great detail. I don't think he missed a day of class to where he wouldn't respond.
GREAT PROFESSOR. One of the best professors I've had at USC. Truly cares about his students.
Astronomy 100: The Universe with Peroomian was such a fun class. He tells the class on the first day that it isn't meant to be hard, but just get people interested in space. He covers topics so well with tons of movies included in his lectures that you want to go to class. He really cares about the topic, and he knows how to simplify it to GE talk.
He is really passionate about astronomy! If you have any interest in the subject he gives a good overview of it. There is not a lot of highly technical material, so it's great for non-physics people who want to know more about astronomy. You do have to put some effort into studying for the midterms, but if you do you'll get an A.
Dr. Peroomian is hands-down the BEST physics professor you can hope to get at USC. He is understanding, helpful, clear and just overall great. The course material is tough, but if you go to office hours you'll be fine. He's there for you and is a great resource.
I absolutely am NOT a fan of physics but Peroomian made it somewhat enjoyable. Most hardworking, caring professor I know. Has office hours almost everyday. With that being said, he expects you to work as hard as him. Lectures can be long and boring, but that's only because he's extremely thorough.
Lectures are generally fast, but he has office hours. We generally get let out 30 minutes early. Overall, he knows his stuff, so take advantage of that by asking him questions. Exams are kinda difficult, but if you can do previous exams without looking, then you'll be fine. Just understand the content.
If you get lucky enough to take from him, it'll be an amazing time! Don't take him for granted-attend lectures because he's hilarious. He wants you to succeed grade-wise because he wants you to be interested in the material. Drops lowest midterm score out of 3, only need to complete 5 out of 7 HWs to get an A in total HW grade, labs, one final.
Peroomian genuinely cares about his students, so go to his office hours! His exams can be tough but he provides previous years' exams for practice and those are extremely helpful if you try to go through most of them.
Professor Peroomian is a good lecturer with engaging lecture and clear slides. the problem with this class is that it is very difficult - his lectures do not have relevant info for tests, the material is very dense, you gotta read the textbook urself to prepare for tests which can be 200+ pages for one midterm 0/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND
Professor Peroomian is a brilliant instructor, and without a doubt, one of the best physics professors at USC. Lectures are fast-paced but helpful, and he has a plethora of office hours where students can access him for more help. Demos during lecture are always the highlight and he always makes the class laugh one way or the other -- take him!!
Best physics professor at USC.
Professor Peroomian is knowledgable and passionate about the material plus the course subject is super interesting. Who doesn't want to know if we're alone in the Universe?
as a non-science major, he made this class simple & interesting. he knows that astro is a GE for a majority so he doesn't go into anything physic-y or advanced. 3 midterms with the lowest dropped, hw from the text; everything is based on his lecture slides & some main concepts. a great prof, an A/B class depending on effort! 10/10 highly rec
Professor Peroomian is very passionate about astronomy (and photography). He does his best to make physics interesting. He curves the tests and makes what's expected of you very clear. Drops your lowest midterm grade, you only have to do 5/7 of the homeworks. Dense material but doable.
Peroomian is great, he has tons of office hours, is friendly and accessible, and keeps his lectures engaging despite their two hour length. Wish he was a bit more lenient with the curve though, study harder for the final than I did!
Great professor. Gives past tests so you know exactly what is expected. Homework is graded pretty hard but he gives you 7 100 point assignments and 500 points is perfect homework score.
Professor is amazingly passionate about the subject and makes it super interesting. There is a lot of studying to be done, but if you can get through the material you'll get an A. The exams are all multiple-choice.
The content is difficult, but Professor Peroomian does his best to help everyone succeed. He is very accessible at office hours and will help explain homework and other concepts. You have to put in work: go to office hours, do the homework, and review practice exams (they are all posted on Blackboard) but definitely a doable class!
Dr. Peroomian is a fantastic professor. He really wants to see his students do well but will make you earn it. He is very accessible during office hours and really makes it clear what to expect on exams. He is what a professor should be as far as being fair while maintaining the difficulty of the class.
Really great prof. A pro at distilling complex information into easy to understand examples and language. If you pay attention, you will walk away from all his lectures understanding the complicated info you need to know. He is a really nice guy who genuinely cares about helping his students. He also has cool side hobbies like astrophotography!
Very easy, very well structured class. Had three midterms and the lowest one was dropped. Clear and straightforward study-guides. Multiple choice exams. Very interesting lectures- didn't check my phone once!
Easiest science course I've ever taken! 3 midterms (lowest one dropped) and he posts many past midterms which have many questions that are exactly the same. Fun lectures and I actually appreciate a science course for once. And no, we have not yet received evidence for other life in the universe.
I took this class because I heard it was the easiest GE E. Like any GE, there is lots of tedious homework but nothing that's too hard. TA's are easily accessible as well. Vahe is very passionate about what he teaches so it makes the lectures very interesting.
Perhaps THE best prof in SC. Prof P's lectures are engaging, interesting, and inspirational. The BEST GE you can take. Too bad I can't choose more of his class :(
Very interesting dude. Obviously knowledgable, and enthusiastic about astronomy. Grading is relatively easy, 3 midterms, lowest is dropped, easy homeworks. Lab sections are easy, though the final project is annoying.
This was his first TO class and he did a great job letting it be a discussion-based class where students could ask any question imaginable about humanity's future, space exploration or space in general. He is crazy smart and grades generously when you show interest in the subject he has studied for his life. I want to take more classes with him.
I definitely recommend taking his Astro course. He's a great professor and the content is interesting but sometimes hard to grasp in lecture, but if you review the practice exams from past classes and pay attention in class, you will be well prepared for exams. My TA was helpful with labs and they only met every other week.
Astro 100 is your regular GE- tons of useless information, but at least Peroomian makes it bearable since his lectures aren't too dry. He is knowledgeable, but can be extremely inflexible when it comes to logistics/grading. I think his class would be amazing if he cut down on the amount of info he covers (25 chs, each ch is 100+ dense slides).
ASTR100 is probably the most common class for GE E. Vahe is chill but his lectures are boring and have too much information. This is the hardest GE I've ever taken. Don't bother going to class; he reuses his tests. But still the average for his midterms still happens to be around 60-70% because they are ridiculously hard. Worst GE, not recommended
It's an interesting topic, but Vahe gets into the nitty gritty details of space science. He's a very nice guy, and the Joshua Tree trip was awesome. Graded on attendance, a midterm, and a final project. The final project is A LOT of work. Lots of books assigned but I'd be shocked if anyone in the class read all of them.
He is an amazing professor. I had never taken anything related to Astronomy before and he clearly explained each concept. Some of the material may be difficult to understand for a GE, but I felt I learned so much in this class. I took it online so there were quite a few exams, but he only counts the best 2 out of 3 midterms. Highly recommend!
taking the class online makes it harder to engage with the well described material. for in person class i think he gives extra credit for attendance, but that's not the case online. the labs are harder than expected and brought me back to AP physics in hs. all of the test questions were on google so its hard to motivate to study for tests
Peroomian is a sweetheart who is deeply caring and passionate about astronomy. 7 labs, 5 homeworks, 3 midterms (lowest score dropped), and 1 final. Super doable. That said, I would highly recommend taking this class in real life if you can because online, as we all know, can be quite unmotivating.
He was one of those professors who made classes harder online. Wasnt really accommodating and talks way too fast.
Take his class if you want to have one of the best and most caring profs. The material is tough, but if you really put your head down and try to understand the concepts it'll all come naturally. Go to office hours and he will basically explain the hw problems.
If you're looking for a class to fulfill that pesky science GE, this is the one. While the final is open book, it was 115 questions in 80 minutes (45 seconds per question) to try to offset online cheating. In reality, making the test that fast only hurts the students who have problems taking tests. Content on test was much harder than in the course
Took his class during COVID. Other professors were understanding that we were all stressed and frustrated at our situation, but Vahe made class even harder. Got pissed off within the first week at one student so he decided to make all our midterms and finals more questions than we had minutes. Failed every one. So much work and so much crying.
Took his class online bc of covid and it was way harder than what previous reviews said. He changed up the exam formats and guidelines than in person classes to make sure no cheating. Def not an easy class to get a good grade in. The labs r easy tho.
One of those classes that got harder with being online. This class was harder than all of my major classes. The hardest part was the test. The midterm was around 80 questions for 40 min. The final was 115 questions in 80 min. The constraint made it very hard bc you have to work really fast, and the questions were not easy.
Exams were easy with problems we had done before. Homework solutions are long and confusing. He promised for extra credit, but did not carry through.
ASTR 200 was a really great class. Open book open note tests for the online semester. Only 6 homework assignments. As long as you read the textbook its an easy A GE. The one knock I have against him is that he knew absolutely nothing about the lab. Wouldnt even answer questions about it in class
Went to class twice this semester. Everything is open note so it's very easy to get at least a B. This semester was virtual and I'd say that it'd be hard to get an A, but very easy B. Attendance is not required.
As someone who had no physics background going into the semester, Peroomian did a great job at explaining concepts. Although lectures were great, I had to rewatch recordings because of how fast-paced he is. Make sure to take advantage of office hours and SI! He is very accessible and wants you to succeed!
Professor Peroomian made physics the easiest class I took this semester. THAT IS NOT EASY. But the magician made it work somehow. Very simple class, funny professor what more do you want
Professor Peroomian was awesome. He was super knowledgable about the topic of the course and he had his students' best interest for sure. He made sure all questions were answered and was super easy to get in touch with. Made it clear what we'd be graded on from the start... it's just about learning how to study for tests cuz questions are detailed.
Professor Peroomian does a good job at explaining the concepts in phys151. He does his best to be available in office hours and he is very approachable. The two midterms were a bit difficult, but overall I would recommend taking phys151 with Peroomian.
Was a hard class that I put a lot of time into, but it paid off in the end. He can be a bit condescending but very helpful in office hrs. Lots of hmwk. Exams are hard but he curves it. He wants everyone to do well and he wants people to go to his office hours, which I liked. Attendance technically counts b/c we did in-class activities.
Professor Peroomian is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about astronomy, but he goes through dense lectures pretty quickly. There is a lot of information to know for the exams, but your lowest midterm score is dropped and the exams are curved. Solid choice for a physical science credit!
I know Peroomian gets a lot of love... he's a really nice dude, and clearly cares about his students. BUT this dude cannot write a test to save his life, and his lecture style is pretty terrible. He won't ever give you formulas/info, just likes to teach by example, and his tests are incredibly unfair and ambiguous. I urge you to take anyone else.
Cons: This class was brutal, even as someone who's taken physics before. Seriously, the final had some material we had barely covered. The written homework was great, but the online homework was way too much. Pros: Accessible outside class. Graded on many diff things. You do actually learn a lot; not a useless class at all. Not mean w grading.
Professor Peroomian is the best professor I ever had so far. I can tell hes really passionate about astronomy. His lectures are super organized and interesting. I highly recommend his class!
Great teacher. Highly recommend. Took online so don't know how it is in person but was super chill.
Lots of fun experiments in class, prepared students well for the exams. Very nice person and extremely helpful. Don't hesitate to choose him.
My main issue is with the structure of the course... I was very surprised to learn I would need a 98% on the final to score an A that semester even though he gave an extra credit assignment. I like professor Peroomian's teaching style and feel that he interacts well with students. I just wish he had made the final weighted less. It was 30%.
Professor Peroomian is a good and understanding teacher. There is a lot of material to learn in his lectures, but attendance is not mandatory for Astronomy 200. I do believe if you want an A though, you have to work pretty hard for it.
It's his first time teaching 135A at USC and the class average for our first midterm is a 46%. Vahe apologized for giving such a hard exam, but if he knew it was a super hard exam then why even give it to us and ruin our chances at succeeding? I Just dropped the class. Trust me when I say to choose another prof if u care about ur gpa.
This class is probably gonna give me the lowest grade I've gotten at USC. Peroomian curves exams to a C and openly laughs at students who are concerned about their grades. He can't teach or write exams to save his life. Homework assignments take hours and he doesn't cover the content you need until the day before they're due. Avoid at all costs.
Vahe is a caring professor, but PHYS 152 is a tough class. The weekly assignments are very math-heavy and I have to open a chegg account to learn how to solve them. The exams are also hard, but you won't get a bad grade if you practice a lot over the given past exams. In summary, 152 is a course where your hard work pays off.
Professor Peroomian is a nice professor, but his ASTO 200 class was unnecessarily difficult. You will have weeks where you will have LAB, homework assignments, and a midterm back to back. The midterms had a low C average, all I need to say. Lots of busy work and if your looking for a GE class Id recommend finding a different one.
Vahe makes this class hilariously difficult. You will spend 10+ hours weekly non-stop working on long HW that are FAR from what's tested in exams. Vahe has ridiculous attendance policies for a physics class and cares more about the appearance of students crowding his class and OH rather than the students wellbeing and understanding of physics.
Vahe is a good professor. His lectures are engaging and he does care about the students who put in the work. He just cannot make a fair test. Averages were lower than 55% for 2/3 exams- lower than notoriously more difficult courses at USC (ochem, genetics, etc). Homework and review sessions hardly resembled exam questions.
Prof. Peroomian does a great job at making complex topics feel approachable. He understands the level that his students are at, and patiently helps them build each additional layer of understanding. He is very accessible outside of lectures, and encourages his students to meet with him outside of class if they are struggling to follow along.
Take Peroomian at all costs. He is great in OH. Prepare for lecture by reading textbook. Difficult exams that are really only preparable by doing all of the practice exams and attending exam review. SI was a great resource too. Read the manual before lab. It's not worth it to drop the class because he gives an excellent curve and partial credit.
Vahe is a solid prof. He really cares about his students and will pretty much answer any email you send him at any time of the day. His class is HARD but I think that's just physics in general. My only issue with him is that he's pretty stingy with giving out As, but makes it pretty easy to get a B to compensate. He knows his stuff.
This class is a lot of work for a GE and covers tons of material. It's pretty easy to get a B - B+ in thanks to the practice exams which he reuses a lot of the questions but very hard to get an A in because there is so much material.
Hectic professor and fast-paced, but usually good lectures. Does in-class activities for participation, but you don't need to do all of them. The exams were really hard but he curved everything really well at the end of the course. Cool guy and accessible during office hours. Ask him about his photography!
Professor Peroomian was not an easy professor but he was very caring and wanted the best for his students. His exams were more difficult (averages usually around 50%) but definitely doable to go above average as long as you truly understand the material rather than memorize question and answers.
I struggled immensely in 151 with another professor, and wasn't sure if I should drop 152 or not. What I learned however is that it really isn't the professor that matters, just being strategic in how you study. GO TO SI, Hari was an absolute lifesaver. To prep for exams, just do all Peroomian-written practice exams and exam review. Curve is huge.
I am bad at science but aced this course. Prof lays out everything you need to pass this course. Open note and internet exams - so pretty hard to fail. Great notes and powerpoints that help immensely. Summer course was online but I doubt it would be any harder in person. Labs started off tricky but became super easy towards the end. Highly rec
Very very caring prof. He is really passionate about astronomy. This is course is a lot of fun, though it covers too much topics. The grading is not as hard since he curves the exams. Recommend.
Vahe is really kind and caring. He's organized, and responds to emails very quickly. He blows through a lot of content quickly, so sometimes the amount of info can be overwhelming. But he curves test grades, which makes things significantly less stressful. He also offers one extra credit opportunity. If you take the class P/NP you'll be fine.
Don't need to go to class to get a B. Lab and Homework are super important but not hard. Lab is alternating weeks. Quite a few of the test questions were on concepts that were never mentioned so don't be surprised!
Overall a solid prof. LOTS of homework. He works through examples in class and office hours which is helpful. Exams are either very difficult or verbatim from past exams. The final exam is cumulative and there is A LOT of content, so study in advance. He has 3 different potential curves and chooses it to your advantage.
Professor Peroomian really went above and beyond in his teaching and accessibility. As long as you attend lectures and do the homework, the exams are very similar to past examples. He's super reachable through email and office hours and curves to help students.
Vahe is the best physics professor I have had at USC. This is a very challenging course, but he offers many different resources and outside help to help you succeed. He is also incredibly nice, funny, and understanding, which makes the lectures more entertaining. Exams are really tough but if you know the old practice exams you will do alright.
really easy class, really great prof. lectures go a little fast, but he gives lecture notes before class. always available for office hours & curves the final exam grades. dont be intimidated by the phys100 GE!!!!!
I really liked this class. It is interesting and I stopped coming to lectures. The labs weren't too bad and it was a really enjoyable GE. I would highly recommend if you don't like Bio or Chem. Learning about aliens was really fun and took it with a lot of other friends.
Lectures are honestly really cool with experiential demos almost every class. Grading criteria is very clear and as long as you study the slides and have a general understanding of the course content getting an A is extremely achievable.
Good lectures, definitely have to show up to class for attendance and also learning the content. Weekly homework that takes a few hours. Has good resources such as Homework Hints and helpful office hours. Two midterms. Pretty difficult class but teaches the content well.
Professor Peroomian is amazing. He gives really engaging lectures, and really cares about the success of his students. Lectures are not mandatory, but if you go you can get extra credit. My only issues with the class were the labs (there is a ridiculous group project that is not explained well) and that the midterms were unnecessarily difficult.
He's a great professor. He goes quite fast during lectures which can be a bit jarring at first, however, you get used to it very quickly. 70% attendance is mandatory. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! it literally saved me so much time for homework. he is always willing to help in person or over email. I hate physics but it was a great class because of him.
151 is really difficult especially if you've never taken physics before but professor Peroomian really cares about your understanding and getting you to pass. Lectures and material go by really quick and homework can be difficult but if you go to office hours he is always willing to help. Review past exams before the midterms/final!
PHYS 151 is a lot if you have never taken Phys before, but Prof Peroomian is a reasonable guy who knows his stuff. All previous exams are posted online which should to be practiced as midterms are no joke. Even in large classes you can always reach out to him via email or in the many OHs. Lots of HW, but its necessary to do well.
Best phys prof at USC. Very engaging and cares about his students.
Very understanding and is willing to help students if you show that you are actually trying. Come to Office Hours, email him asking for past exam problems explanations, attend the lectures, work through the examples he covers in class and you should be good. PHYS 151 is HARD but he will be helping if you are putting in the work.
ASTR 200 is the best choice for a GE, I went into this class blind in astronomy and I was able to come to appreciate it. Homework and Lab are extremely important and meaningful points. The only downside to this class were the labs which felt like busy work at times and can take a lot of time if you do not attend your lab section.
Vahe is an incredible professor and extremely knowledgeable and passionate about astronomy. Lectures were fun and engaging with frequent videos. Homework is easy and straight forward. Exams were only difficult because the wide array of content but he uploads and pulls from previous exams so memorization is easy. The lab project was kinds dumb.
Overall pretty interesting class although I thought it was disappointing that most of the talk specifically about aliens was in only the last 3-4 lectures of the class. Fairly tough for a GE class, because the tests are rather difficult, but as long as you do the homework and the labs (which were very tedious for the most part) you should be fine.
If you've taken physics 1 or C before this class will be a breeze. Lectures are clear and review videos are very helpful on midterms/final.
Teaches very fast and problems done in class look nothing like homework problems. Homework is on Webassign which is annoying already - no partial credit for right formula wrong answer because it is on the computer. Helpful during office hours but they tend to be crowded
In terms of difficulty, it's your typical physics class. Pretty tough. The bigger problem is all of the other stuff. Physics courses here require you to pay >$100 for an online textbook (you can't get around paying this). Peroomian requires attendance, so the room is always full. And he complains most lectures about people being late for class.
Requiring attendance in STEM classes should be a crime.
There are 2 hour lectures Tuesdays and Thursdays, but the professor is very chill and usually lets us out early. Attendance isn't required, but if you do you get extra credit. As long as you drill the practice exams, you'll score at least an 80% on all the midterms, as he posts sample midterms and is very transparent with what grade you'll get.
Bro wants us all to succeed. He's so open to helping anyone struggling in the class as long as you make an effort. he curves pretty nicely. There are homework hints. He drops homework pts so you can take a homework off if youre drowning in work. He has great reviews for tests. Just learn how to take notes in his class bcuz it moves FAST.
Vahe is the best. Super passionate, nice, and responds to emails really quickly. He is very aware that many students take this as a GE, and does a great job of making sure you do well. You only need a 500/700 on homework and reuses test questions from practice tests. Labs are straightforward, drops lowest midterm + curves exams. Best GE-E to take
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! You WILL spend the entire semester stressing over your grade and GPA. The majority of your grade is based on the 3 midterms and final. Class average on EACH exam was a C- or D. I didn't meet a single person in that class that actually enjoyed it, because they were too worried about their grades. Countless hours of studying.
Don't be fooled, this class (as an arts/humanities major) was NOT an easy A! I had to work hard and put in many hours to study outside of class and prepare for exams. Professor Peroomian is fantastic and accessible, and he wants you to succeed. His passion for astronomy shines through, and I've learned so much from him this semester.
Vahe is a fantastic professor who provides many opportunities for you to succeeded in what is a challenging class. 8+ office hours a week, homework hints videos, and he is incredibly responsive to emails. He genuinely cares about his students are there success but he also expects the same level of commitment from you (mandatory attendance).
Super tough class but Peroomian is super caring and passionate about teaching and his students. You need to put in a lot of work outside of class to understand the concepts but he offers tons of resources and is always available to answer questions. Reviewing past exams is the best way to study. Overall a really nice guy and always willing to help
While this class is interesting, there is so much material to memorize for tests (he does drop the lowest midterm) and he goes through the slides so fast. The labs are no help at all and my TA didnt really care. He is very accessible outside of class if you need help. This GE isn't an easy A. Didn't enjoy the class a lot, lectures drag on.
if you need a GE-E, take Prof. Peroomian. This was such an easy class and he literally gives you extra credit for going to class. I will say the lectures could be a bit bland at times but he honestly tries to make it fun. You do need to kinda study for the midterms & final if you want a good grade but other than that this class was so easy
Great lectures; runs through slides and carefully explains example problems in lecture; go to office hours for homework help; generous curve at end
Professor Peroomian is extremely passionate about his field, which is evident in lectures and inspirational. Attendance is not mandatory, although his lecturing is engaging, and the material is cool. He makes himself very available to help, although this class is very manageable if you stay on top of notes/lectures and study the practice exams
-Moure's better for 152(wish I didn't trust the ratings & took him) -Got an A, but was harder than needed -Passive aggressive & not helpful Agree with a previous rating “Vahe has ridiculous attendance policies…and cares more about the appearance of students crowding his class and OH rather than the students wellbeing and understanding of physics
He is an ineffective teacher, often coming across as arrogant and self-centered. His clothing style resembles that of a teenager, which can seem unprofessional.
ASTR 200 with Prof Peroomian is a great choice for GE-E, especially if you're not a science person. The grading criteria was straightforward, and as long as you keep up with homework and study for the exams using Quizlet you'll likely get an A Not to mention the material itself if pretty interesting!
This is the perfect GE-E class! I left with so much knowledge of astronomy because he is very passionate and puts together entertaining lectures! The exams are also not bad at all. The best way to study is by reviewing the study guides he posts and then reviewing sample exams. About 90% of the questions you see on exams are in the sample exams!
He is just not good in teaching. I had to search for extra material to help me learn in this class. Tries to be helpful in office hours though.
He's great teacher who genuinely cares about his students and their success. He provides plenty of guidance and resources to help you prepare for exams. If you put in the effort and follow his advice, you'll come out of the class with a solid understanding of the material. He's approachable, kind, and always willing to help. Highly recommend!
Awesome lecturer and helpful outside of class, albeit a bit rude sometimes. Brutal on grading. Very very few people get A's. I was 15-20% above average on every exam and ended with a 90.05
vahe is a great prof and his lectures are super clear. physics is pretty timely but the class is fair and if u put work in u will be fine. his final exam contract is nice. mando attendance too
I thought I was doing fine but, I discovered he's an extremely harsh grader: condescending and rude with his comments. He's surprisingly passive-aggressive. He won't tell you if your choices are infringing on grading policies but will condemn you in the end for it. He overly emphasizes on your "flaws"
Well taught class. You have to show up to 70% of classes and do participation activities or else you get a 0 on your homework. Lectures are very clear and he tries to have office hours when most people are available. Midterms were very similar to practice exams.
best i can say about him is he cares about what he teaches. at best, his behavior with students is lightly disinterested; at worst, his conduct is incredibly belittling and condescending unless he decides that he likes you. he grades based on invisible standards that he expects students to meet blindly and prides himself on doling out bad grades.
good option for GE-E!
Simultaneously acts like he cares about his students but also just doesn't gaf and is plain out rude. The curve at the end of the semester was generous. Homework is standard, but the labs are just horrible. Lectures are okay, I learned mostly from his review videos which were actually very helpful.
Vahe can be strict and doesn't necessarily come off as approachable, but he's a good lecturer and explains concepts well. Best option for 152, although physics at USC is going to be dull no matter what. Homework is weekly and dense, and attendance is graded via in-class activities (although there is a good bit of wiggle-room to skip).
Peroomian is a caring professor who wants his students to succeed. The class is challenging, but he provides tons of support through office hours, homework hints, and detailed exam reviews. Unstuck study was a lifesaver for preparing for tests. Overall, a rewarding experience with a great professor.
Show up to 80% of the classes and you get 2% extra credit. This class is designed for you to get an A. Homeworks are boring but easy (just need to get 5/7 to get a 100%). Tests are all on the slides, but a lot of memorization. Just study for a couple days and its an easy A.
DO NOT TAKE FOR YOUR GE. Insanely unnecessarily hard. Prof Peroomian acts like he cares & has empathy for students who are not into STEM but in reality, the course is truly so hard to get a good grade. Homework is easy to complete but very time consuming, you have to show up to 80% of classes to get the credit, exams are very hard, labs are AWFUL.
Great guy. Does cool experiments in class and multiple choice only tests are extremely similar to the many practice questions he provides.
very lecture heavy class and participation and attendance is required. very condescending and rude. He sets up office hours, but then never seems to be available for those times. asked for feedback on final project and it seemed like everything was good to go until we got our grade back. suddenly, he had a lot of criticisms.
Lectures are heavy handed but as long as you put in the effort the first half of the semester, the second half is light since the last midterm is optional and the final is curved
Amazing class. Had a lot of great discussions and learned a lot of things that were like "ohhhh so that's how that works" which was cool. Midterm and Final project are difficult to do well on without explicit feedback, so go to his OH in advance and you will be fine. Attendance policy was annoying but manageable and the field trips were awesome!
As long as you put in effort for the midterms and show up to lectures to half the lectures t, it is basically a guaranteed A. I had some general physics knowledge before coming to this class, but this class teaches things way beyond that. But, the professor and his slides make it very clear on how to succeed in the class.
Not going to say it's an easy A, but definitely easier than other classes. No attendance required. Exams were long and homework was time consuming. But you have more than plenty of time to turn in assignments. Grading is straight forward. Would 100% take this class/professor again.
He's solid, not great, but not bad by any means. You can't go wrong but he likely won't knock your socks off and inspire you to go deeper into physics. Was rude one time to me individually bc i wasn't paying attention in class but neither was the rest of the front row?? You should pass fairly easily, study past tests and ur good
Vahé is such a cool person and is able to explain astronomy in layman terms while also making it engaging. CORE 103 is structured to be a discussion but the materials chosen for this class made it easy to join discussions. Grading criteria are very clear and as long as you show effort and go on the field trips (so fun!) you'll have a great time!
This guy rocks. Attendance is not mandatory + you get up to 2% ec for attending MOST of the lectures. You have 30 question homework assignments every 2 weeks but as long as you get a total of 500/700 points for the semester you get 100% credit for homework. He posts 3 midterms from prior years that will give you almost every question on your test.
Overall solid professor but a real tweaker on grades. Consistently complained about test averages and consistently seemed disappointed in our class. Brutal all or nothing homework grade based off attendance activities but if your score on the final was a higher grade than your overall score then he gave it to you which was nice.
Very kind and easy to reach outside of class. Finals and midterms could use a more updated practice test.
Loved: his passion, engaging lectures, caring guy! Multiple choice exams that were pretty much the practice. Disliked: Lab assignments (not hard though, just tedious), homeworks (graded inconsistently), and exam questions sometimes unrelated to lectures/not on sample exams. End of sem project was annoying. Fun class for anybody curious on space!
One of the most uncaring professors, he doesn't care about your personal situation and shows no compassion.Your HW grade is jeopardized if you don't go to class and do the in-class activities. Teaches very fast and would always complain of low test averages, never giving any positive reinforcement completely blaming students for their "laziness".
