Classes are very boring to go to, it's kind of hard, but that's how biology is.
Shes a great teacher, even though i got a C, I was going to get a big F if it wasnt for her. She is really helpfull when you maintain a good relationship with her and of course if you dont interupt her during her lecture class. Overall she wants all her students to pass so just be in her good side and she will help you out. She is leniant and nice.
She has a heavy accent and speaks with lots of scientific terminology. Studying out of the book is a must! she was so hard, I got a c on my papers and still did better than 80 or 90 % of the class. stick it out and youll get extra credit work, which is how I got an A. Half my class dropped the course. I would have been lost without my lab teacher.
She was very helpful with questions, although sometimes it was a little difficult with the language barrier/accent. However, she knows the material, and is very approachable. She will help you to grasp the ideas, and is not at all condescending, makes it a fun and easy class if you're willing to do the work.
She was my lab teacher for micro. Very nice. Easy to get along with. Very understanding when you needed clarification because of her accent. No problem. Tough. It's a tough class. She has a great sense of humor too. At first you're wondering what you've gotten into, but by the end, you love her very much.
shes nice and everything but the study load was a lot to handle when u have already 2 hard classes and a full time job. she does give extra credit. shes a good lab teacher but sadly she wasnt mines. lab matters so get a good teacher
Dr. Khamankar is a very good professor. She tries her best to help students understand, and wants everyone to do well, but she doesn't like when people don't show up for class. YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS. Even if you aren't the best at biology, it's okay because she gives a lot of extra credit opportunities, you just have to show up to get the chance.
Dr. Khamankar was really helpful and approachable. She gives out a lot of extra credit, just attend class to make sure you get the opportunity for it.
VERY nice teacher! She is willing to help and is very laid back. She is still a biology teacher, and though her class/ subject might not be the most fun, she is still willing to help any student.
Hard subject, hard tests, easy papers. Dr Khamankar is sometimes hard to understand because of her accent but she is very nice and very helpful. She understands that this class may be hard for many people so she is very flexible with giving extra credit. Effort goes a long way in her class.
She's very nice, and laid back. Shes willing to explain things. It's hard for her to reach the class as a group. She's very soft spoken and not easy to understand. I felt lost. She doesn't clarify what is expected from students. We don't know when assignments/ quizzes are going to be due. She's unstructured, Disorganized. lost many of my grades.
She is very willing to help and wants you to understand. Used the lecture book rare but def used the lab book. If you do bad on a test she is more than willing to help you retake.
She taught the lab only in my section and did a great job. Really nice, great explanations, and extremely helpful.
Dr. K is extremely helpful and kind. She is very approachable and makes it clear that she's here for the students. Her accent is not difficult to understand if you're actually following along when she's teaching. Dr. K is one of the best instructors I've had a NLC. :)
Bio is hard, so don't expect it to be easy. Dr.K is really awesome and talented, and she explains well. Be attentive in class, and take notes. I made an A, but i worked for it. One advice, don't drop the class even if you are failing; she will work with you at the end.
Biology is not a easy subject, at one point I thought about dropping this class but don't! Make sure you attend class I promise it will be worth it in the long run, I really had to study for her class, by no means is it "easy" I definitely had to work for my B+ in her class. She gives A LOT of extra credit in the end so it's all worthwhile!
she is the best
Great Professor. Good sense of humor. She wants you to succeed. She offers extra credit opportunities and post study guides for each exam. Not an easy subject but she will try to make things less complicated and clear.
she was never specific in her lectures even if u read all your books and powerpoints u cant do good in the test. hardly got B . i wouldnt reccomend het thete are lots of best biology teachers besides her in North lake college. u cant even take notes in class cause she is not specific and also not prepared for the class and powerpoints that she had in ecampus. i was always in class, and went through the book every pages but hardly got B.
Dr. K is a great lab teacher, but not a great lecturer. Her tests are MC but mostly critical thinking questions, which I liked, but most students don't. I used the MasteringBiology website A LOT for this class, and it helped me tremendously. Biology is hard - you have to study, even if the lecture isn't great.
Dr.khamankar is not good lecturer Please don't take her class if you don't have any back ground in science..she has this thick Indian accent I could hardly understand her...tests are extremely hard....I don't recommend any body taking her class
She is understandable with her accent but she's very quiet so if you actually want a good grade sit in the front row. She's not very good at lecture and she's kind of boring but if you really pay attention and don't fall asleep you'll get a good grade. Studying is a must!
Her accent was difficult to understand initially and she has a relatively quiet voice so it is better to sit in the front of the class. I had her for lecture and I can say that she did try to help however, I still had a hard time. Make sure to use MasteringBiology because that's where she gives out the extra credit! Finally, study really well.
She has a mono tine voice. Dont get her!
She is a sweetheart! She does help you if you ask for help! She is so nice and will try to explain things you do not get. The tests are hard, so to pass you must attend class and study not only the powerpoints but also read the book. The class is a bit challenging so be prepared for it. She is willing to help but you need to study hard!
Instructor speak really low, and when you can hear her, you cannot understand her. Test does not go with study guide. Her class requires you to read all chapters to try to get some kind of understanding. Instructor not helpful at ALL.
Currently in her class. She does have an accent, but she's very well spoken & easy to understand. We've had 2 quizzes & our first test. Got perfect scores on the lab quizzes & an "A" on the test. I have never opened my book. Her lectures & labs have all the information you need. Show up every day, pay attention, & take notes & you will do fine!
She is an awesome teacher! Just show the effort and she'll always be there for you. She will make sure you get the grade you want as long as she sees you work hard for it! She's the sweetest professor I've met and honestly I won't mind taking this class all over again :)
Dr. Khamankar is a great professor. She is so sweet and is willing to help in anyway she possibly can. I took this course online and it has been pretty difficult. The key to succeeding is to stay on top of your work or stay ahead. Thoroughly read the book and study the lecture notes and powerpoints.
She is such a nice lady, the powerpoints she goes over in lecture are online. They are helpful for tests which she also gives a review so study both and you'll do fine. I enjoyed her lab. She gives quizzes which aren't that bad. Make sure you attend lab, used for points. I really enjoyed her class over all! Does offer extra credit.
great teacher
Got accent and speak low so hard to understand and stay awake and takes forever on PowerPoint
Dr. K was very helpful when I asked. I took this online. Read the book, look at the powerpoints and WATCH ALL YOUTUBE VIDEOS from other professors that follow Campbell's Bio. The youtube SAVED ME. She gives mostly applied questions and her tests are hard! Print out practice tests 1 and 2 to study for the midterm. Same for final.
Lectures are good, but goes too fast over the material. Overall, a good biology teacher!
Professor K, was an good professor. Biology 1406 was just a difficult class to do online. She did offer 1 xtra credit assignment, that saved me. I finished the class with a B, but you have to work very hard. All in all she is a sweet lady. But this online class requires hard word. Lots if reading
Prof. K is an awesome instructor. I took Biol 2420 in Summer 1(8-week class). Initially, I was struggling with the class because she was fast and the class was full of Nursing students but I went to her for help and she assisted me. She was willing to give tutorials before the exam. Ask her for help if you need one. I will take her again.
wonderful professor. very nice and sweet. pay attention to her lectures and read the textbook. she is a great teacher but the material itself is hard. lecture tests are difficult but quizlet will help!!! her lab practicals are difficult but you can pull through if you participate in all experiments. still managed an A even when i took in summer
I liked Khamankar ; she is very knowledgeable and helpful. Her class wasn't really hard. The one thing that was a bit hard was memorizing terms. There is a bit of challenges with her lecture tests, too, but if you study beforehand, you can ace it. Khamankar can have a bit of an accent, so staying in front of the class is recommended.
Great professor.
Khamankar is THE BOMB... Though people complain about her accent, but she's soo easy to work with if you're ready to learn. Gives extra credit almost at every instance, for example, you took a lecture test early like the first three days, and something went wrong at the testing center. For taking the test already, you get extra credit, and so on.
Very sweet lady but not the best teacher, tries hard though. Extra credit, sometimes can use book/notes for a test, Pearson online homework (not bad), some test questions were confusing but she let me answer them in her office. She will work with you! Would take her again but not a first choice. Hate saying anything negative cuz I really like her.
The best professor EVER.!!! She is so nice, easy class just do your homework, labs and you will pass. Wants every student to succeed in her class.
Tests are very hard. The study guide she provided does not match with the any question on test . It's very very very difficult to get A on her class.
she is an amazing professor, amazing lectures, if you have difficult to understand, she will use extra time to help you after class, very wonderful person, the best
This class was really cool! Be prepared to listen to lectures though. They can be kind of boring. The Power Points are accessible outside of class, and there are no tests only quizzes. All the quizzes are online. There is one comprehensive final of 76 question comprised of all the quiz questions.
Great professor. Lectures in class are over powerpoints & powerpoints are uploaded online. She provides a free textbook online which is nice because no extra cost for textbook. Mainly consists of quizzes & 1 final comprehension exam. She is understanding & offers extra credit at end of semester. Would definitely recommend!
Get ready to read, study, quizzes, and tests. class was hybrid lecture online/lab in school. Lab was great but that was given by a different teacher. Lecture was a different story. lots of reading and studying. Quizzes for each chapter and then tests for how every many chapters you read that week. No extra credit or remakes on tests.
Alright teacher but wont be taking another class. I did pass but very test heavy. Took the summer course. 4 lab tests/5 regular tests/1 final. Need to read the book, PowerPoints and lecture notes. Also theres a quiz for each chapter. Many of the tests use the same quiz questions. All in all if you take summer class you need to study a lot!
I do regret taking this class as opposed to the slower-paced Biology class. This course is definitely not for someone who has a life and/or has a job. With this course, you are expected to go home EVERY day and read, take a quiz and study for a test. There is a test at the end of every week over 3-4 chapters. Labs are very time-consuming.
Very sweet and helpful professor! The quizzes are extremely helpful as well. However, the way that the minimester class with her was very poor. You take all of the tests in the first 5 weeks and then do all 13 labs (with 2-5 experiments each) in the last three weeks. I struggled at the end with the labs.
Professor Khamankar is incredibly knowledgeable! She is a very sweet lady who is genuinely interested in her students. Her lectures are very well explained and she made biology interesting and exciting. I sincerely recommend her. She is amaaazing.
In one word please don't take her class.I took an 8 week class of Biology 1406 online, the lectures where okay, But I took a lot of time to finish the lab report. There are 14 labs like this and we have to successfully complete atleast 10 labs to be eligible to take the final lab practical. I couldn't finish all the labs and I failed.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU HAVE A JOB OR OTHER THINGS TO DO. I SCORED MORE THAN 85% MARKS FOR ALL THE TESTS BUT I FAILED THIS SUBJECT BECAUSE I DIDN'T TURN THE LAB REPORTS RIGHT.
If you are a straight A grade student, her class will be a good opportunity to know how a B grade or C grade feels like. I was over confident and thought I can do it, but I struggled a lot. If this is the only professor available please stay without taking any class. That's even better.
97% AVERAGE IN THE LECTURE PORTION. I TOOK HER ONLINE-3 WEEKS. I DIDNT HAVE THE RIGHT MATERIALS IN THE KIT. I EMAILED HER. SHE TOLD ME SHE WAS TRAVELING 2 OF 3 WEEKS SHE "TAUGHT" I DID PRE AND POST LAB QS BUT BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE/LOST/SENT HER PICS OF LABS I COULDNT DO BECAUSE I DIDNT HAVE THE RIGHT STUFF FAILED ME IN LAB REGARDLESS- C IN CLASS.
I took her BIOL 1406 class and she is a very sweet teacher. I took lecture in person and lab from home- the labs were pretty tedious, especially for a beginner. Her exams are pretty hard and her study guides don't really match the material she tests for, so I highly recommend attending lecture and asking questions in class.
This class was hard in the beginning, but the professor gave ample time, extra credit and grading curves to assist us when needed. She is very caring and understanding. She allowed make ups for so many students that missed Test or work. She is very sweet. Professor Khamankar has a very vast knowledge of her material is happy to answer all questions
She is really an amazing woman. I was nervous after reading the reviews on here. However, there is a lot of work, but easy to pass. The only reason I received a C+ is because I fell behind on my labs. You have to finish 10 labs to take the final and I only did 8. No book needed, just use the powerpoints and study. But the lab kit is a MUST. Thx VK
Awesome professor, offers help throughout this course. Willing to help at all times. Provides tips for success. Lots of quizzes and exams but if you take time to do it you will do fine. Also gives extra credit!
By far one of the worst teachers I've ever had. Unbelievable amount of work and she never explained any of the concepts. My lab kit was missing most of the materials and she was basically like "too bad."
Did the 4-week online Summer course. It's fast, content-dense and requires great time mgmt. There are a ton of quizzes/exams over the chapters and labs, and they don't always match up with the material. I urge you to review your quiz/exam results closely though. There were quite a few incorrect answers in her system that I had to bring up.
She was my 1st teacher as a returning older student. She always responded to my emails promptly. When I had issues with a chapter, she spent 1 1/2 hours explaining it. She genuinely wants her students to do well. Graded labs according to what was received in the kit (I was missing some items) and according to procedure, not just the results.
I don't know why she has so many good reviews. She puts a ridiculous amount of work for you to do for an online class. Fine teacher, but avoid this class. It's just stupid amounts of work with lots of short answer test questions (last time I checked, that's not a thing in Micro).
I took the 8 week bio 1406 class and its very quiz and test heavy. There is only 3 lab reports due for this class and the rest of your grade is dependent on your quizzes and tests. He gives you the whole 8 weeks to turn everything in and he doesn't dock if you turn it in late as long as its in by the end of the 8 weeks.
I took this as a 5-week summer course. It was a ton of work. But as long as you keep on schedule, you should do great. Almost all the grades are quizzes or exams and the exams have the exact same questions as the quizzes. So if you study your quiz results, you should be ready for the exams.
There are no announcement through 16 weeks. you will have no idea what assignments are due or what you are expected to do in labs as there is no guidance. Most of the students who like to really understand and study will end of failing. She doesn't grade the very first discussion board until the end of the semester.
there were no announcements and emails throughout the semester. she will not remind the due dates and never talk about the assignments in the class. If you have any questions with the course and you go forward to ask about it, she will make you feel terrible and stupid by reverting questions back to you. Don't recommend.
Terrible
Professor Khamankar was very nice and understanding at least with our class. However, the lecture exams contain questions that go super into detail on subjects that half the time were not covered during lecture. I learned more in our labs than I did in lectures. I relied heavily on the textbook and studied from there. Just keep that in mind.
She is a good professor ! I was also not ready to take her class because of the bad reviews and ratings but I am thankful for taking her class. She is very helpful and be ready to read!!!!! I highly recommend taking her class for Northlake students.
She is the best professor for Microbiology. She is very nice and caring. Even if you email her on Sunday she will immediately reply. I also thought she would be tough by seeing her reviews but Trust me, She is amazing!! Dont think twice if you are studying at North Lake college. Take her class.
She is the best professor Dallas college has, I will quite worried when I read the review here first but she genuinely cares about her students and wants us to succeed, learned a lot from her class I would definitely recommend her . She is the BEST
I took microbiology in person she is such a sweet heart . If you take her class one thing is for sure you will get good grades.exams and labs are so easy. Lecture Exam and quizzes are online but 2 lab exam are in person but she do a review question before the lab exam and the day of lab exam so you will pass.mam you are great.
Take her class
She is the best .
Best microbiology professor in Dallas college.
Grading was questionable. I was not satisfied by the grading she did. I felt little unjustified.
tough grader
I did every assignment on time and got good grades on every test but didn't got the good result in it.
Worst! Midway, the professor changed the syllabus, forcing all six lecture exams (600 points) to be taken at the testing center instead of online. With two lab exams and no extra credit, passing feels impossible. The worst part? Exam questions don't even match the review materials, making it feel like a setup for failure.Avoid this class at all costs!
Most frustrating academic experiences I've had. Exams are excessively difficult, even after reviewing whole course materials, it's impossible to find answers, making studying feel like a waste of time. What's worse, she changed the syllabus and grading system halfway through the semester after the drop deadline had passed, without any warning.
Avoid this professor if you want good grades.
Hard to understand and question never comes from the course chapter.
If you want to get C or below grade, take her class. She wants us to study every pages of books, PowerPoints containing 100's of pages & turns out the questions being very different & difficult in exam. Changed syllabus in middle of the semester, making it tougher for us. She thinks we don't have a life outside of this course. BE AWARE!!!
This professor is biased and raciest. Please do not take her class unless you want to fail class. No matter how hard you tried to study, she tries her best to fail you.
Professor Vaishali is a terrible instructor. She is incredibly biased against international students. Her grading is very tough, and the exams are set up to make students fail. The workload is too much, and she doesn't care about students. The course feels more like a punishment than a chance to learn. I strongly suggest avoiding this professor.
One of most frustrating academic experience. The professor changed the syllabus midway through the semester, which felt unfair and unprofessional. The exam are difficult even after reviewing the study guide. It often seemed like she was setting up student to fail rather then supporting them.I don't recommend this professor if you want good grades.
Dr. Khamankar cares about her students. She did alter her lecture exams during the semester, but it was to benefit her students. She is very understanding and does what she can to help her students succeed. She relies a lot on Powerpoint slides and the textbook. Her study guides are kind of difficult to understand.
I don't recommend this professor if you wanna get good grade. This was my worst experience through out all my semester. She change syllabus at the mid of semester which was really unfair. Although we work hard for exam, and go through all study materials and study guide it's hard to pass. 80%student in my class have got D grade.
I don't recommend this professors if you want good grades. She is really tough. Although you study hard you will not get good grades.
RUN RUN RUN!!!! Students if you really want grade less than C, then take her class. She is literally a worst professor I've ever seen. She expects you to read entire book, which is insane! She's not there to teach students, she's only there to make you fail.Anybody who is reading this and still taking her, don't come here next time and agree with me
Please don't take her class. She is the worst professor in Dallas college. Her lecture is not good. She only uses the PowerPoint for herself only. All the exams will be on the testing center. She will not help any student regarding the exam. If this is your last semester, please don't take her class it is waste of money and time. We fail.
Worst professor 😡
Worst professor ever. You won't understand anything on her lab. No clear instruction and exams are very hard.
Dr. Khamankar LITERALLY provides you with everything you need to pass her class, study guides are key! course is accelerated, so commitment is key. You can easily pass this class with an A. The ones that are complaining about how hard she is, did not take the time to study for her class. Again, you have to put the work in, then yes you will fail.
Her class was amazing. You just have to keep up with it.
Very hard to get good grade like A or B despite studying so hard and practicing study guides questions answers questions are so tough that she designed to make fail
She is very strict with her test. Questions are very hard and study guide and summary won't help u at all. Take this class if u wanna fail.
Mostly lecture heavy as Microbiology supposed to be. Don't expect an easy A but if you would like to work hard and just need a proper guidance, she is the one. A lot of extra credit is there to help you out.
