Professor Capurri is an excellent prof! She is enthusiastic about her material and structures the course so nothing is too stressful. Her 3 fieldwork assignments were much more fun to do than a boring essay. Great prof and great class!

This course was way more interesting than I thought it would be! Valentina is really enthusiastic about the material (and she's so cute!). No attendance marks, but would definitely recommend going to class because she explains each reading in detail and gives ample opportunities for questions and discussion. By far one of my favourite classes ever!

Great professor! Very Fair Marker. If you put the effort in, you will be greatly rewarded. I achieved an A in this course by attending nearly all of her classes, reading her powerpoints diligently and going through the main points in the text. Format is two tests and a major essay. Midterm and Final were both fair and essay was fairly easy.

Professor Capurri is a very easy going prof. The text book is not needed as she summarizes everything in her slides. Attend class and take good notes and you will do extremely well. The two assignments are fair and are not strict essay format. I definitely suggest taking this class as an easy upper liberal.

Really great professor. Her mid term and final were easy/fair and you're guaranteed to do well on them if you study. Classes can be boring, but she tries her best to make the material interesting. The 2 written assignments I felt were fair, a lot of people did fairly well. Overall, she is great and I highly recommend her.

This professor is great! Everything on the midterm and final are from the slides and lecture notes therefore no need to do any readings! Shes a pretty fair marker on the essay as well! I found the final a bit harder than the midterm but all in all easy enough class to get a A in!

Midterm 30%, Essay 30%, Exam 35%. Tests are not cumulative and are M/C and 1 essay-like question. Very easy course, don't even need to buy the textbook, her ppts are all you need. Go to class! M/C is very straight-forward and a lot of the material is common knowledge of Canadian cities. A B- or higher is easily achievable.

Tests not cumulative. Her PowerPoints are enough for the course. She is generally an easy marker on the essay portions of the course (some TA's mark hard!). Some M/C questions are obvious while some are random (e.g. random percentage facts that you thought weren't being tested). Lectures are generally very boring. Easy B+ to A- but difficult A+.

good prof.she gives easy exams but in all honesty, she should not mark the students' essays.I personally feel that a professor who doesn't have a good grasp of the English language herself should not be marking students' essays. I felt offended when she was correcting my grammar. She constantly uses words that aren't even words during her lectures

I thought her lectures were interesting and teaching style great. Readings aren't too bad. As long as you go to class and take notes you should be fine. The assignments were pretty easy. Follow the instructions carefully! I agree that the TA seems to deducted marks on random things but that's the TA, not her. I highly recommend this class with her!

RECOMMENDED LIBERAL! Honestly, this is what all liberals should be like. She makes the lecture friendly and easy going to understand. She made the book and its very cheap as well. Her power points have key information and summery. Attendance is a must! she gives everything in her lectures even hints and information for final.

Simply put, this is an easy A class. She's a very sweet and kind lady and an easy marker. Midterm and assignments are common sense and require little work. Not the most interesting topics but if you want an A, take Valentina! Slight Italian accent but still understandable.

Professor Capurri was great. She's very passionate about her work and her lectures were pretty interesting. You can tell she enjoys what she does. All the course deliverables were clearly defined and very reasonable. The readings can sometimes be dry, but do them and you're pretty much guaranteed a good mark.

I really enjoyed this course. It was an ideal liberal. I attended most of the lectures, didn't take notes, and did the readings the night before the exam but spent time on assignments. I would recommend this course for students with really strong writing skills. Otherwise, tests are easy but the assignments might bring your grade down.

The course content was very straight forward & interesting. The assigned readings can be a bit boring but she kinda tells you the takeaway points during lectures. The assignments were tricky though and they're worth 55% all together. The TA goes quite hard on students. Overall a fairly easy upper liberal with a decent amount of effort.

Really easy to do well. She knows her stuff. I went to every lecture, took notes, read it once before the midterm and final and I got 80-90s on both. Bought the course reader, didn't touch it. She tells you what you need to know from the readings during lectures. TAs can suck when marking assignments, ask for a regrade, she's an easier marker.

She's a very sweet lady, her accent takes a couple lectures to get used to. The assignments are very straight forward, and she tells you exactly what she wants. However, I found the course more sociology related than geography. Would have liked it if it actually focused on the geography of Toronto. Textbook was worthless.

Enjoyed the class and thought her lecture style was engaging. She does speak VERY loudly though, so if you have sensitive hearing make sure to sit at least 5/6 rows back. The 1 assignment we had (3 parts) has very detailed instructions that if followed is pretty simple, and if not gets A LOT of marks reduced. Midterm + exam were multiple choice.

This prof is amazing. Just go to class, take notes and study them for the midterm and final exam and you will do well. There is no need to read the textbook or the weekly assigned readings. There is also an assignment and an essay in this course and both are marked really easy. In class, she also gives tips on things to remember for the exams.

Extremely simple class. If you already know enough about Toronto you can't do bad. If you aren't good with writing would not recommend since half of your grade is writing. Cumulative final. Very precise marking schemes for assignment + essay. As long as you have notes it's not hard to get an a. Would definitely take another class with her!

I found her lectures to be very informative. She discusses current events and applies the course material to that. She's passionate and obviously cares about her courses. The exams were a little tricky but all multiple choice. Big research essay but I thought mine was garbage and got A+ on it. Would definitely take a course with her again.

Valentina is an incredible professor who knows her stuff about geography and geographical history. Her courses usually consist of 1 midterm, 1 exam, and 1 essay as evaluations. She tries to convince the class to buy the textbook, but it is not needed as long as you attend all her lectures and take notes. Would take any of her courses again

She is passionate about Middle Eastern geopolitics, and as a result, her lectures are interesting. I loved her lecture style. The tests are easy if you show up to every class, even though she says you should get the txt, it's not needed. Follow all her advice and rules for the paper, I did that and got a 94% on it.

A worthwhile class to take. I felt the professor could have made it more engaging. Mostly stands at the front of the class and goes through lecture slides. I found the final assignment to be restricting - 6 scholarly sources but with a 2000 word count INCLUDING title page and bibliography. Lots of requirements with little room to do it well.

I have only been in her class for a month and a half now, but I can already say she has been one of my favorite profs throughout university. She is the easiest and most knowledgeable geo prof I have had but her essay grading is next level.... to do well all you need to do is attend class and write down everything she says because lecture slides are incomplete and study that and you're good for MC exams but start early on essay and check in with her often.

Valentina makes the class very interesting especially when she applies the course material to real life events happening in the current society & at Ryerson. Info from slides is not complete without going to lectures. Both mid-term and final exam are multiple choice. Essay is on any region in Canada but 20% is auto-docked if going one word above word count so be mindful. Otherwise course is Regional Geography of Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia.

Solid prof. Easy 15% from AI quiz and BIA assignment. Midterm was only based on 2 lectures so there's less to study. Essay was marked fair. Final exam was based on 8 lectures but content wise was easy. All multiple choice midterm/final. I took several courses with Dr. Capurri and absolutely loved everything taught by her. She is a very fair grader on assts + her exams are purely MC and if you attend every lecture/type every single thing she says, they are simple. This is literally one of the best profs I've had. The class was an elective, and the lectures were pre-recorded so you could listen to them when you wanted. Easy 10% from participation, and answers for the test were from the slides. The essay was 8 pages, but you were free to pick your own topic. Highly recommend, easiest elective ever.

Overall, she's an easy-going professor. For this course you have to write a mini academic integrity quiz (easy 5%), discussion posts for participation weekly, a midterm and a final (based on PPT slides) & an essay. She does not provide any instructions on the essay and is very vague about what is expected (only con of her classes). Recommend 100%

She may be direct with her feedback or responses and is annoyed if you as her questions that you can find in the course outline. However, this is an easy A birdhouse. Midterm is super easy, just listen to the PowerPoint and if you do the readings you will get almost 100. The Essay was stressful to write, took me 2 days and I got 83.

I'm so confused by these reviews? I got over 95 on the essay - she's a good marker as long as you're careful with your grammar and know how to write an academic paper.. Also saying she is "rude" is ridiculous - she is direct and will respond if you post something factually inaccurate, which is totally fair! I loved this course, no complaints :) :)

Professor Capurri is such a great professor. You can tell she really gives for her students based on how she gives such extensive feedback on essays. She is a little bit of a tough marker when grading but is fair at the same time. Her lectures are very interesting. Would definitely take again.

Also a reasonable essay marker, and her mandatory D2L Discussion posts for grades are really fun and great for learning. She's really nice too when replying to students! Geography in general can be a pretty dry subject, but professor Capurri actually made it not only interesting and engaging. I highly recommend taking her for GEO793, shes truly an amazing professor.

This class was a breeze. As long as you go through Valentinas modules & listen to her lectures youll pass the course. The exam and midterm were super straight forward and overall she only tested you on material that was covered in the ppts. The essay was easy too- take it from someone who never wrote an essay since highschool lool!

I was hesitant before i took this class because of these reviews but boy was i wrong. I left the course with 98.5%. Easy midterm and final exam (straight from her lecture). Heard so many amazing things about Professor Capurri, so I decided to take class with her! My lectures were pre-recorded and you just had a discussion every week. The exams and essay were super fair. Easy A!

Easiest professor I have ever had. Multiple choice midterm and final that are very easy, an essay which she grades very fairly and weekly discussion posts that are just you stating your opinion on the topic. Just have to do the work and you'll be guaranteed an A+.

1 midterm + 1 final exam (straight to the point- use her recorded slides), Weekly discussion posts (complete them for 10%), 1 academic integrity quiz (easy 5%), 1 paper( don't go over or under word count and have a logical & clear flowA+). All the information needed is found on the outline so don't bother asking any questions as she comes off rude.

Valentina is a good solid prof, she is tough but fair. I really enjoyed Geography of Toronto because it was interesting and did not make the lectures overly complicated to digest. As long as you stay on top of the lectures and participation, you will do fine in the class!

This ended up being a great course because of this amazing professor! She is respectful of our time and the pre-recorded lectures were quick to get through. I learned so much in this course and wish I can take another course with this prof! She is a fair marker, bit tough on grammar mistakes and straightforward tests.

Valentina gives you every opportunity to do well. There were weekly discussion posts and an academic integrity quiz which were essentially 25% of free marks. You don't have to do any of the readings to do well. As long as you watch the lectures (which are not that long), the tests are very easy. She was more than fair when marking the essay.

She is the best. Her lectures were so interesting and engaging, making me not want to miss any of the classes. Also, considering that she is pretty understanding and gives plenty of opportunities for her students to do well, there is really no reason for you to complain about this course.

Solid prof. The slides were good, the material was mostly enjoyable. No unpleasant surprises. Midterm and final were easy, covering slides was enough. The essay was marked fairly, most people did well. Other than that, you needed to complete a weekly discussion post. Pretty easy class a standard course to take to fulfill upper liberal requirements.

Attendance is mandatory as most things discussed in class are testable material. Tests overall reflect what was discussed in class; however, can ask ask trick/specific questions from the readings not discussed in class. Marking for the essay was a little bit harsh.

She is a great professor. Tests are from the modules, which she posts weekly. The modules are comprehensive, and she adds many fun facts and videos while teaching, which makes them even more interesting. The only negative point was the essay, I wished we had a clear rubric which could help us with writing it. Otherwise, I like her and her classes.

There's a 10% paragraph assignment and a 5% Academic integrity quiz which are essentially 15% free marks. However, the 35% essay, 15% midterm, and 35% final are a lot of work. Essay is marked hard, make sure you have no grammar mistakes! She doesn't have a clear grading rubric, so you don't know exactly what areas you lost marks in

I needed a upper liberal so I took Geography of Toronto through Chang this summer. Overall, very easy course and the lecture was easy to follow. To me, it was very easy. Just remember to do the discussion post each week because it takes up a large chunk of your mark!

Professor Capurri is very kind and her lectures are engaging. She is very quick to respond to emails and is always willing to stay after class to answer questions. Content is explained from slides with additional readings. Structure of the course is decent and midterm/final exam was multiple choice.

The lectures as a whole are very easy to understand. To me she marked my essay pretty well and fair. If I have one more uper liberal course I would definitley take it with her.

Dr. Valentina is very nice and caring. Her lectures were fun and easy to follow. All I had to do was take notes for the lectures. The assignment that she provides for students is an easy grade booster and the final was super easy.

BEST BIRD COURSE. Go to lectures and take notes on that, you dont need to do the readings if you come to class. Honestly found her lectures entertaining and interesting, she is clearly very passionate about her field. So long as you go to the lectures you will be set for an A+.

She's just lovely. it's actually a grade booster highly recommended for your upper-level elective. Participation isn't mandatory. there is a 5% AI quiz, a very easy 15% test and one-paragraph assignment for 10%; so easy 30% right there. the final exam and essay were marked pretty fairly as well. people complain about her accent but it's delightful

Came into this course knowing most of the content. Prof was very kind and light hearted. The textbook is unnecessary if you know the content well. Didnt get an A+ cuz I didnt know how to do in text citations for the essay and lost marks, but those who cited it properly got good marks. Met some good people during lectures despite low attendance.

The midterm and test were very straightforward if you listened to all her slides and made notes. The essay had very clear criteria, so if you follow them all to the T, you will at least get a decent mark. Ensure you give yourself lots of time to research and find academic journals to support your essay properly. I would take this prof again

This Prof. is social justice oriented. great examples in lecture notes. Overall, this course is an eye opener for me on different spaces in the city, and their history. My perspective on Dundas Square changed after this course. Thank you, Professor, Capurri for the knowledge you impacted to me. I'm going to go on my own tour in the city.

Overall, course was easy if you paid attention to her lectures. Only annoying part was like someone else here said, she stretches 10 slides into a 2 hour lecture making it a little difficult to focus. Course consisted of an AI quiz worth 5%, a small assignment worth 10%, test worth 15%, and an essay worth 35%, and then a final worth 35%.

I loved having her for GEO509. As other students mentioned, she does stretch the content over two hours but to be fair this was originally a 3 hour class so she shortened it by an hour. The content was interesting and the way she taught and covered the topics made it enjoyable to learn. I had her for GEO793 before and she is a great lecturer

She is an amazing professor and her lectures and content are fun and interesting. I actually learned a lot! I pray that everyone gets to take her for a GEO course at least once in undergrad and I hope she never stops teaching!!

Professor Capurri is a great professor. the course is pretty interesting and she makes sure to go over everything important. her tests and exams and mostly on what is said during class so make sure you show up to class and make notes. the essay can be hard but overall its pretty fair. the assignment and quiz are easy mark boosters.

She is a nice teacher who cares a lot about her teaching content. However, there are not a lot of words or information on the slides, so she tends to drag on 10 slides into a 3-hour lecture, which is tough if you miss a class. She is straightforward about what she requires on the final essay, but she grades it a little tougher than expected.

Hard not to do well and she's really friendly and engaged with what she's teaching but she is a yapper and a lot of lecture material is important so do your best to take notes and pay attention in class

Solid professor, she's very nice but strict on deadlines and discussion posts, as well as use of AI. Her midterm test was very easy, the discussion posts are very easy as well. The essay was graded a little tough, but you really have to make sure you follow the rubric as her expectations are very clear. If it's online, definitely take her class.

She knows her stuff and made this class so interesting with the way she lectures. The topics are already interesting but she selected unique readings that made me excited to attend every single lecture. Expectations are communicated with 1 short answer assignment, 1 test, 1 essay, and a final exam. Possibly my favourite class of undergrad.

She is an angel, so kind! Overall interesting lectures (will say she relies on videos sometimes, so those are a bit boring). Very fair/easy test and exam, I know the essay is graded a bit harder but honestly pick a topic you genuinely are interested in and you will do well.

She is the best professor I've had at this school. She is honestly a great role model and probably the only person that could make this course so interesting.

To be honest she's the only prof i liked so far in TMU and i am speaking as a 3rd year. she makes the content easy to understand with lots of examples which is great. BUT GO TO THE CLASS it helps a lot because she drops some hints regarding exams.

Couldn't be happier I took Prof Capurri's class. She's incredibly engaging, well-versed on the material, finds gripping readings & wants/cares to get students involved in lectures using relevant examples even when they're difficult to bring up. We got spoiled!

Took her GEO 206 course. There's only one professor I'd go to war for, and that would be Dr. Capurri. She makes her lectures fun, and she is very understanding if you have trouble handing in assignments.

Fair professor, not too easy or difficult. Her lectures are very intellectually stimulating if you are into urban geography and social issues. She also is pretty timely at responding to emails compared to some other profs.

She presented the history of the Israeli-occupation against Palestinians and the current situation clearly and from fair but accurate perspectives

Certain profs give a biased delivery of the Israel-Palestine issue, downplaying or omitting a lot of israeli attrocities but then overemphasizing arab attrocities. We all know the one who claimed Qana Massacre was an “accident." Which it was not, even according to the UN. Capurri turns their rhetoric on its head with fact-based lectures

This was quite possibly my favorite class. Dr.Capurri approaches the history of the Israeli-Palestinian occupation and genocide in an educated, fact-based, and eloquent manner. Encourages students to develop their opinions/thoughts using evidence-based sources. Her lectures were detailed and engaging. Great discussions were had by all.

So for sure there is LOTS of reading, most of it is pretty accessible to those who are new to Israel-Palestine. Ultimately, the class facilitated a great space for discussion

one of my fav profs in all of TMU. the course is genuinely interesting and the prof makes the experience even better. she is kind and wants her students to do well. I recommend attending every class because a lot of what she says during the lecture is on the exam and test, which were very straightforward and easy. 10/10 would recommend.
