Her lectures are very confusing she is not clear on what she explains and rambles alot. Test are long essay questions and she will take much points for missing info. This is not an easy class to take with her. But you do lern very much since you have to end up memorizing all the material in order to pass the lecture.
Great prof, although she is tough. Her essay exams are difficult but I learned a ton.
I had her for ANT-2410: Culture & Society, and ANT-3165: South America Before Columbus. ANT-2410 is a very easy class, but you do have 2 papers to write for the semester. ANT-3165 is a little bit more difficult, because of the amount of information. To pass her classes, you have to make sure you write good notes, because 98% of the quizzes/tests are based on class lectures. Ask questions if you don't understand. Professor Martinez is very knowledgeable and passionate about her work. Super nice! :)
Great teacher
I had her for my summer ARCH DIG. She was just great. I had an amazing experience. This is not extremly easy but the hard work is completely worth the experience.
Hard, not very clear. Wasn't too bad, but wouldn't take her again.
i do not recommend taking this course with her. she rambles and isn't particularly interesting. however, as long as you study and read from the text, you should do alright in the class
She covers everything you need for the tests in class and doesn't ask you about anything she doesn't talk about. I didn't read the text, I just listened to her lectures and got Bs on her tests. This is an interesting class, I would recommend it.
all she does is lecture there is no power point it is really boring it is also very hard to understand her she has a heavy accent. book is necesary, maybe class would have been more interesting if the discussion helped withthe exam. BRING COFFEE. maybe a recorder could help
very long boring unclear lecture...doesnt take attendence no need to go...but discussion is mandatory and helps alot if you have Robin Darling..martinez does not curve maybe 3 or 4 points if the test avg is low
She knows her stuff... i personally didnt go to lectures, and sort of found it harder to cram before the tests but she does give study guides... if u go to lectures she only talks about things she puts on the tests... however her accent makes it extremely difficult to understand and focus... she doesnt like when people leave DURING lecture either
horrible teacher. you can't understand a thing she says. she just talks for hours during lectures. if you sign up for this class, get robin as a discussion, she's fun and easy. just do the study guides for teh extra credit on the exams and you'll be fine.
Excellent Professor. Just go to class and ask for help when you need it. She gives extra credit and she is VERY understanding. She comes off as being serious, but she has a sense of humor.
CLASS WAS VERY BORING... BUT SHE IS HELPFUL THROUGH EMAILS. DONT PANIC IF YOU DO BAD FIRST TEST THERE IS A LOT OF EXTRA CREDIT. SHE DOES HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR BUT DOES NOT PREVENT EXTREME DROWSINESS... GOT a B IN CLASS NOT BAD
THERE IS REAL INVOLVEMENT WITH HER TEACHING AND A LOVE OF THE SUBJECT THAT IS INFECTIOUS
She is an amazing professor who is always willing to help her students.
Momma Mia!
Thick accent, but a nice teacher! Make sure you go to discussion!!! Be sure to listen when she reviews for a test! If you get perfect attendance, you get extra credit.
Class wasnt bad as i thought it would be. the exams were multiple choice and true and false with 15 xtracredit questions. the questions were str8 up easy or hard. i recomend tht u get the workbook bcuz som of the questions are in it. the 2 hour lectures were boring, but on a powerpoint whch she emails later on. gives good reviews. discussions r ez
This professor saved my life.
shes great! if you dont like anthropology obviously you're going to be bored, so dont take it! shes great, shes got quite an accent but there's a discussion and plenty of extra credit including lecture attendance. study for the exams they are all multiple choice and totally fair. i got an A
Easy class. Very boring lectures. I barely went to class and got a B+. She emails reviews that cover what is going to be on the exams and the exams are multiple choice.
EASY. You do not have to show up th lecture all you have to do is read the book. DO show up to discussion.
great professor.
awesome teacher made it interesting very nice helpful she sends you reviews that help ALOT go to the ta's review they let you know and clarify what may or may not be on the test so you can focus on important stuff she will send you slides if a certain % of the class shows up but if not go to class and copy notes it wasn't so bad..
She was the worst professor I ever had. I still made an A, but her class was just frustrating. Anthro is not rocket science, but she thinks it is. On the first test, most of the class made an A. She accused us of cheating, and as a result, tried to make the tests harder, which okay, maybe they were harder, but I like said before, its not hard!!
Never in my entire life have I had someone so bad, she was too quiet for me to hear even 3 feet from her and her tests don't match up with her notes. She asks pointless questions and will ask specific questions to students with laptops, targeting them. If they do not know the answer, it's because they have a laptop. Do NOT take her class!!!
I like her. the class is interesting and she is pertty nice. she can get annoying but i mean shes completely bearable. The tests are easy if u take go to class and take notes. but if you dont go to class and keep up with the readings you can still do really well. I am one of the laziest people and i got and A in the class.
All you have to do it come to class, take notes, study, and you'll be fine. Although she has an accent, her powerpoints are superb. Depending on the total class attendance, she even sends the powerpoints. The only downside is how long her lectures are... Oh, and there are reviews before exams- provided by the TA's.
Avoid taking ANT2000 w/ her if you can. I was interested in the subject before but now not so much, professor Martinez crams at least 8 chapters into every exam and puts like 150 questions on each test which are hard to understand. I studied, but this class was harder than my 4000 level courses. Even the TAs agreed the tests are difficult.
You much go to every lecture or you will be totally lost. She can be hard to understand sometimes and her wording on tests can be confusing since her first language isn?t English. Make sure you have Elliot as a TA. He is great and will take his own time to help his students with a test review session. Great TA but terrible professor.
tool her for SA before columbus and thought it would be a relatively easy class. NOT- Her tests made no sense and she was not very nice. Would not take her again
not very interesting and her notes aren't very helpful. the study guides are and so are the TAs.
I just got done with this class. In the beginning i would show up but really started to just skip it, everything you need is in the text. so i recommend you buying it, because her slide show didn't help at all, and she has a thick accent so it can be hard to understand especially in a room of 200+ people. She did give extra credit tho, so do them!
The class was easy. You'll need the book. Just go to discussion, read the articles and do the study guides and you'll be okay. I made a B+ and I barely went to class.
Everything you need is in the text. Buy it, cause her slideshows didn't help me at all and in the end i just started to not even go to the class. The extra credits she gave was very helpful towards final grade, so do them!
Professor Martinez was a great instructor. She is a tough one though. Make sure you do your reading and show up to class and do your fair share of power point note taking and you should be fine. Her exams are all essay exams - 5 exams total.
Prof. Martinez is a good teacher. the class is pretty easy, just study a little bit for the tests and you'll do fine. Some of the material is boring, but it is pretty interesting for the most part.
Very nice teacher, lectures a bit boring but if you do the study guide (use the book) you will pass her tests, helpful, emails back, very lenient about assignments will accept late assignments, gives lots of extra credit so do it! Easy to pass as long as you do your work
Martinez isn't bad. Her lectures can be boring at times but the class was easy so it was worth it. Attendance is takin by ?'s asked at the end & is used as extra credit. She gives study guides which is basically what tests are based on. Class is really easy if you're willing to put in the work. TA's give easy online quizzes and you write 1pg papers
Shes a very good teacher. Her slides and lectures parallel the text book so I recommend referencing the information there. She tells interesting and bizarre stories
Class wasn't that difficult, extra credit opportunity after every lecture, and you could get quite a few points if you paid attention. If you want a class where you just go in to lecture and take exams, go ahead and take her, but you can tell that even she doesn't wanna be there. Lacks passion. Not the best experience I've had with a professor...
I took her class last semester. She knows a lot about anthropology; she is serious but at times very funny. I strongly reccomend the class. I learned a lot about anthropology. Really like the class!
I took this class last year and strongly recommended to other students. The class is a little bit difficult but Prof. Martinez makes it easier with her really neat power point presentations. She makes them available to the students. It was a very fun class.
This professor was great at what she was teaching. Yes the lectures are long but she has a powerpoint to follow, gives extra credit quizzes 6 points added to overall test grade. She is very easy going and she is always available during her office hours. Only negatives is you have to study for her tests which are 100 questions and read the book :)
She was alright. 4 tests overall. Attend her lectures and pay attention.she gives extra credit questions at the end of the every lecture. Kind of hard to understand. Powerpoints are pretty boring. I'm an A student and found it hard to pay attention. Don't take this class unless you need to for your major.
this class was easy you just need to read the book and do the study guides and pay attention. Like any class.. I got a decent grade i applied myself and found this class quite easy. I recommend her
Attendance is mandatory even if it isn't listed anywhere. Go to class and pay attention. Also take notes. The TA's will not help you and if your classmates don't help you too if you miss class then you will surely fail. Seriously, DO NOT take this class if you don't need it!
Professor Martinez has a very strong accent that can sometimes be hard to understand. She relies heavily on the textbook, but you don't need to buy the most current edition. You need to show up to every class, because missing one means you're very behind. If you don't have to take it, avoid it. If you do then read your textbook!
I am an anthropology major and found this class very interesting. Martinez is a good instructor and very fair when grading exams. She provides excellent study guides and makes her power point lectures available to us. I recommend this class.
Anthropology is kinda hard, but Mrs. Martinez does a pretty good job teaching it. Make sure to go to class and the discussions. My discussion TA was very very helpful with the class. I haven't studied that much for the exams and I am going good so far As and Bs.
Easy class and pretty interesting compared to other humanities I have taken. She structures her class clearly and well. Read the book and do the study guides and you will do well on the exams. I would take a class with her again
Pro. Martinez has a lot of experience and is very knowledgeable when it comes to anthropology, but that doesn't mean she knows how to teach it! Out of 4 exams in the class only out of one of them anyone made an A, out of 100+ students. She is nice, and doesn't give homework, but her tests are hard, and she is hard to understand! Fun but hard!
one of the best general requirement classes I have taken. Class is really fun and interesting if you participate. some of the classes are taught by the TAs, but most of them were good. If you can write a decent paper and pay attention, you'll do fine.
I like the way her class is set up and I also like the way she teaches. It is her TA's that I do not like. The tests are hard! Do not take them lightly! Pay attention in class, read the book, and do the study guide. Overall I enjoy her and her class
One of the easiest classes I've taken this semester, the chapters in the book aren't extremely long so as long as you read them, you'll have an A.
Not an enjoyable class. The TA's did most of the work, if you really want to call it that. Everything was read off of a powerpoint. There was barely a curve on any of the exams. Quizzes were moderate. Papers had no corrections on them, but they were easy. Attendance is mandatory and the TA's hover around like prison guards.
Best class ever! Martinez is a great teacher. Anthropology is a fun and interesting field. I'll definitively take her again.
Not the greatest teacher. Prof Martinez has a very strong accent which makes it very hard to understand her at times. Exams are very difficult, some of the questions are very specific. TA's are not the most helpful and act like prison guards. Miss one of her lectures and you're already super behind. Plus she's not the nicest either.
don't need to worry about getting textbook, all the info on tests is on the powerpoint slides online. if you study those, you will pass the tests. has a strong accent but she is organized, and posts notes online so its okay if you miss class. only thing is that she does iclicker attendance and regular quizzes for extra credit points
This class is not hard unless you actually study. I wish I would've studied more because I would have actually gotten a better grade than I did. She's a good teacher and she has 4 TA's that also help out with class. Attendance is mandatory so please don't skip because it can really help boost up your grade.
she did a good job at keeping the class interesting and even when the TAs for my class taught the class they did a good job. i personally didnt like that the TAs graded the papers because i thought they graded too hard but if you ever have any concerns about your grade go to the TAs office hours and they put up my paper grade by asking me questions
I am taking another class taught by Prof. Martinez because I really enjoyed her and her teaching style the first time. If you study her powerpoints you do not have to read the book at all really (it is a good idea though). Her study guides are VERY helpful, so use them! The lectures can get long but if you attend them, you will do great.
Fantastic professor! But you have to work for your grade. You don't really need the book as her slides are verbatim from the text. Accent is a little thick, but she's always focused on the subject. Exams are essays and id terms, so be prepared to speed write.
I took intro to Anthro a couple semesters ago, and made it out with an A. My advice to anyone taking her: Read the powerpoints, over and over. She takes her tests straight from them! She's a nice teacher, but her TAs roaming the classroom were a buzzkill. Overall an easy class if you study.
Good Professor, kind of hard to understand at times. Class is overall pretty easy. Consist of 4 quarters each with a Exam, Short Paper, and online quiz. Complete all of them and her exam is her study guide word for word almost. EC is given through I clicker and added to your exam grade (very helpful) ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY, very strict on this.
She's pretty awesome, TAs give review sessions, and the tests are straight from her study guides. The class is a bit boring but you have to go in order to get attendance points! Only time I used my book was in the Discussion section with my TA. I enjoyed the class.
mrs martinez knows her stuff and her accent is not as bad as people say, her TA's were really helpful and understanding , especially cory!! , you only need the books for the discussions, but other than that you should be good, attendance is mandatory she is really strict about this ! i really enjoyed her class and learned a lot
This class is interesting if you like history. She never goes slide to slide while teaching she explains and when she feels that she needed to change the slide then she changes it. Exams questions are bit confusing sometimes too. She is helpful and TA's term paper checking to strict. So write properly else they will grade you bad.
This is a professor who truly loves her job. She makes every class interesting and the two TAs she had this semester were also concerned with student learning. I took the Intro class and am looking forward to taking the Culture and Society class in the Spring.
Easy class just do the work. The only problem is she treats you like its a high school class though!!!
Great and Interesting class. Professor Martinez is a little boring at times and goes off topic occasionally but the slides keep it interesting. The TAs were incredibly awesome and helpful. 4 tests confusing but if you study you will do fine. 4 easy film reaction papers and 4 easy online quizzes. You must buy the books.I definitely recommend her.
Decent class, decent professor. She can ramble and class can be somewhat boring, but it's not hard. 4 papers, 4 quizzes, and 4 exams. Gives a lot of notice before each is due. The TA's did a lot of the work. Takes attendance before and after class, so attending is important. Has an optional exam review class before every test. Textbook is helpful.
She is great! Not too hard when you study! I would recommend her to anyone and I'd take her again if I could. Very clear lectures.
Awesome professor! She really enjoys the subject she teaches and seems really invested in it! Tests are off the study guides she hands out. Papers & quizzes are super easy as well! Attn. is not mandatory BUT you get a point each time you attend class which can really add up! Take her!!
The class was interesting and she is a good professor. She knows her stuff, attendance points help, quizzes and exams are from her study guides. Not a hard class, I slacked towards the end of the semester so I didn't get a good score.
She doesn't go along with the powerpoint that she puts up. It's difficult to follow along. She gets off topic. Her tests are 100 questions & you have 80 minutes to take them. She has a very strong accent and is difficult to understand at times. She lectures for the full 80 minutes and at times it very difficult to stay awake.
This class was boring because she lectures through the entire class period. The tests are 100 questions but if you read the chapters you'll do fine. She will call you out if you're asleep, on your phone, talking, or on your laptops so make sure to pay attention! Overall, this class is not difficult, so i'd recommend taking it for an IFP credit.
Lectures not in sync with power points. Annoying about cell phone and laptop use in class (it's college, my phone shouldn't matter to you). Overall class is easy to pass if you read and study.
I enjoyed the anthropology class because it was really interesting, and opened my eyes to things that you don't normally wonder about. Dr. Martinez has a very thick accent, and she doesn't keep the class intrigued because she talks the entire lecture, but the topics are very interesting.
She's very passionate about her work and she is so funny. Come to class willing to learn, and DO NOT let her catch you with your cellphone. DON'T be late because she will kick you out. Also be openminded. Iclicker is mandatory every class. She talks a little fast, and sometimes skips things around. Come to class and review powerpoints.
A lot of assignments in this class but that means you have more opportunity to make up if you miss one. Tests are based directly on powerpoints which she posts on blackboard. Attendance is mandatory and she does not tolerate cell phone use in her class. Very funny. As long as you pay attention in class and do all the assignments you should pass.
It was an easy class to take. During the lectures, she talks a lot and follows a powerpoint. You just need to listen to her and you will pass. There are also assignments online along with a few two page papers here and there, which is not that hard to do. It's definitely a class worth taking though. Easy A!
has an accent, lectures are boring. just need to show up for the most part. online homework assignments that are easy. four 2 page papers and about 5 tests. easy A
The professor has a heavy accent but if you listen you will get something out of it. I suggest the class. You usually do two chapters per week on average. Pretty manageable. Make sure to actually attend because its still counts as an attendance grade.
Very passionate about teaching. Although she reads from a power point, she provides further explanations from what is presented on the board. Lots of assignments, but nothing that will stress you out too much. They're there to help your grade & they really do. She's willing to help you with whatever you need. 4 100 q. tests & 4 1-2 pg papers.
I learned a lot in this class but her tests were very difficult. Most of the problems you have are dealt with by the TAs and then not always solved.
Not helpful at all. Her tests are 100 questions of confusing. She isn't willing to listen to her students input and her lectures are extremely long and boring. I thought it would be an easy A but I've worked so hard and I'm at an A- before the final exam.
This class was OK. I had no problem passing and as far as I know neither did anyone else. Sometimes the lectures drag on and you are required to attend (they do iclicker attendance at the end of each lecture) she'll call you out for having cellphones out but you can do anything on your laptop. Overall easy class.
Show up for class & do the iclicker; I never actually payed attention. Studied for a few days before each exam, along with doing the papers and in class quizzes, & got an 93 in the class. The TAs are very unorganized and made a lot of mistakes; if they're doing most of the work it needs to checked over. Martinez is nice if you are a good student
I wouldn't recommend this teacher. Martinez is an uninspiring and mediocre teacher. The class consists of her explaining 50+ powerpoint slides in a monotone voice. I was in a constant battle to keep my consciousness from start to finish. Her TAs will penalize you for little grammar mistakes instead of focusing on the main content of your essays.
The class isn't bad. It's a little boring but maybe because I'm not interested in anthropology. The tests aren't very tough as long as you go over the power points and do the Learn Smart assignments online. She is a little hard to understand so you have to pay attention. Attendance is taken at the end of class.
Show up to, do i-clicker. Don't have to pay attention to lectures, just read the powerpoints the night before and you'll get an A on the exam. Online hw is an easy grade booster, and there are four 2 page papers that are super chill. Don't mess on your phone, but do whatever on your laptop. Only needed the textbook to get access code and do hw
Prof. Martinez is a good teacher. Her class is very easy read powerpoints night before exam do all the homework and the 4 papers and you should be fine. I think she curves the 4 tests because i got the same grade for all of them. She will call you out if she sees you are not paying attention but just be discreet. would love to take her again
Easy Class, takes attendance , the reading quiz's the TA's gave were mostly boring but easy , there are 4 exams 100 questions and 4 short papers overall easy!
Online quizzes that help you study. Don't need a textbook, you just need the code to get an account online and the textbook is use along side with the quizzes. in class quizzes and tests. Takes attendance every time. I missed three classes and it lowered my grade. tests are LONG (100 questions).
You don't need the book. The book code is good enough. Pay attention, be respectful and you should be good. She keeps very true to her word, if she did not cover it then it won't be on the test. If it is, the points will be given because she gives a curve incase.
Took Culture and Society. Professor Martinez is a good, straight forward professor. A negative is that there is more work in this class than other general education courses. There are papers and weekly online homeworks. If you are taking other time consuming classes, (example: if you are Pre-Med), it can be a lot to juggle.
Professor Martinez is a really funny and nice professor as long as you don't text or talk in her class. Her exams and work are clear cut and easy as long as you take the time to pay attention in her class. You will mostly communicate with her three TA's who respond back in a reasonable amount of time and are their to help you if you need it.
Attend class or check in with your I-Clicker and you will pass ! Assigns leansmart assignments after every chapter . Just study the slides and have general knowledge of the homework and you will pass the exam . When i didn't study for the first three exams I got two Bs and a C+ , when i studied for the final exam I got a 96 . Trust me, take her!
Oh my gosh she's so terrible. So incredibly boring
She is a great professor with clear and detailed powerpoints that are similar to the exams. Would take one of her classes again
This class was alright. I probably wouldn't take it again if I had a choice. She did give homework which were all Learnsmart assignments and Papers after each of her grading quarters. Attendance is part of your grade and might affect you a lot if you skip a lot of class. There are also quizzes after some of her lectures.
Four exams in the semester based off lectures and some of the reading. Lectures are very long and she will generally use almost every minute. Uses I-clicker for attendance. There are four TA presentations where you take a quiz after and four TA presentations where you have to write an essay at home. All notes posted to BlackBoard, thankfully.
She was a fine teacher, she was somewhat entertaining, and you only need her power points to study and do well, and she keeps them up online. Only had a couple exams, and the writing was not long, yet the grading was a little tough there. I barely tried, got away with an A
This was my first archaeology class (field school) and her attitude was just terrible. She is not empathetic when it comes to being supportive toward her students (specially ones that are going through personal issues).I did receive an A in her class, yet her personality sucks. She seems very cold, rude and partially uninspiring.
You have learnsmart assignments for this class, 4 quizzes, 4 papers, and 4 tests. Tests require a lot of studying as they go into a lot of detail (100 questions). Professor is ok, definitely not the nicest i ever had. Lectures can be boring but as long as you do the learnsmart assignments and study those you will pass (Passing with a 86%)
Honestly one of the best professors I've ever had. I took her for both introductory courses she teaches. If she taught other classes I would take them as well. She takes attendance EVERY class through i-clicker and does the occasional pop quiz. The online learnsmart homework is REALLY easy. If you show up and pay attention you'll pass.
Terrible attitude and very uninspiring. Class is a lot of work for such a simple subject. You get quizzes and papers every month that are completely unrelated to material, this is annoying because it takes up time that i could be studying for her incredibly hard tests!! Don't take her!! Her tests go into so much detail, I study 4 weeks in advance!!
The difficulty I would say of this class comes from making sure you are actually reading the chapters and doing the homework assignments. Keep up with the course material and it should help you on the 100 question exams she has. Class is very interesting and she definitely knows her information. I overall like the class
Subject is interesting, and she definitely knows her stuff, however. Her "study guides" are basically everything that's found in the power point so you might as well just study everything. Lots of information and heavy explanations and then the exams are just 4 questions and 2 essays. Very confusing class.
Way too much work for such simple course. Should be a pretty easy class but her tests are almost impossible and she puts questions on them that we've never even remotely have seen. You study as much as possible and still some how get a bad grade on her tests and film discussions. Very strict grading for film discussions too. Tough teacher!
She's such a great professor, however if you act up in class beware. Respectable professor who knows what she's talking about. She posts the powerpoints online which are a great help for her exams.
Loved her class and she was an excellent teacher! Definitely would take her again.
You have 4 units in the class. Each unit is made up of online quizzes, film paper, in-class quiz, and an exam. Overall the class is pretty easy if you pay attention and she puts all her powerpoint's online. She has a thick accent, but overall the material is pretty general. Not a hard class. She lectures a lot.
Extremely easy course. Everything on the exam comes either from lectures or homework. The quizzes are taught right before they are given and the essays are graded very loosely. Thick accent but great teacher, really knows her stuff!
Class is split up into 4 units. Each unit has 3-4 Learnsmart assignments, a film reaction paper, a reading discussion/quiz, and an exam. Not a hard class if you do the readings. Prof. makes the material interesting by telling stories about her career work and her family. Very funny and knows her stuff! iClicker is needed for attendance and quizzes.
This class was pretty difficult for me. It literally consisted of lectures and tests. Her lectures were long and the tests covered material from 3-5 chapters at once so it was a lot to retain.
This professor basically only lectures. The film discussions are somewhat easy. The test are easy if you look at the PowerPoints and review. JUST DO NOT SKIP.
This was my favorite class for the semester because it was an easy A but also because I enjoyed the content. She was funny and nice . She added in extra stuff in her lectures that the book didn't cover.
show up to class. I would have gotten an A if I went. nice lady and good lectures. only reason I didn't go is because it was an 8 am class. unless you need the hard copy don't buy the book because the connect code includes the online book.
Great lectures and she connects the things she talks about with a lot of real world examples. I recommend attending her lectures and the discussions because that's where most of the information is given for future tests. A lot of work is given in her discussion classes, but if you make sure to do it, you'll get a good grade.
She had 4 tests and all of them were 100 questions of multiple choice. The TA's would send out study guides before the tests. Just study the study guides and the tests are very similar. I got an A and I'm not the brightest student lol.
I found this class very easy. You do have to show up and she requires an Iclicker which counts for your grade because she grades attendance. You need to buy the book that's online and do the learn smart assignments which count towards your grade. She has study guides for all her tests and if you study all of the material that is on it you'll pass.
great
Lectures are extremely boring but you have to attend to get the attendance points. Has you buy the book but I never even looked at it. Exams are just like the homework and I usually studied a couple hours before.
really fun teacher and easy class, it has online homework and multiple tests that are really easy if you go over the power point study guides they post.
I took this class as an upper level elective but did have interest on the subject. Book is not a textbook but is required. Pay attention to lectures & take notes! You can tell she is passionate about this & she is very nice. There are 10 quizzes & she makes it clear what they are on, study guides for exams are super helpful!
This class was honestly sooooo easy! The lectures feel long but all the information you need is in the homework and the PowerPoints. She always says she wont put the PowerPoint up on canvas but a couple days before the test she will. You dont need a physical copy of the text book but you will need the electronic version. Overall easy!!!
Her course is lecture heavy, most of the items found on tests are based on what she discusses in class. Make sure to attend to all of her lectures (for test info and because attendance is mandatory). Overall, the class was not too stressful.
Good professor that likes the subject and uploads the lectures on canvas. Class is very boring if you don't like the subject, but tests are fairly easy and don't require that much studying other than some memorization. For discussion everything is based off the book and your grade depends on it.
Go to class, easy points! This class is lecture heavy and it is hard to pay attention if your not interested in the subject. I did not listen too much during lecture but I did study the Powerpoints and random Quizlets before the test and it wasn't hard. If your good at memorizing you shouldn't have a problem.
Professor is very impatient and lectures straight off the powerpoint the entire time. Class and very boring and exams are very long. Start connect modules ahead of time or else you'll have a lot of busy work at the last minute. Professor is not engaging and gets irritated easily.
She was really great, she was funny, inspiring, and was really knowledgeable on everything she taught us, would definitely take this class again.
She can be very rude if she catches you not paying attention (kicked a couple kids out). Her tests are 100 questions long but everything is from her PowerPoints which she posts online after class. She takes Iclicker attendance so you need to buy one. Super easy A, just do hw and go to class and youll be set. But her lectures are very very boring.
Her lectures are long, but some days there are interesting. She leaves her powerpoints on canvas and I mostly used that for her tests. If you study then you will do good on the tests. She gives a lot of extra credit through pop quizzes after her lectures. The tests are 100 questions.
Valentina is well respected, she's a cool person and if you just listen to her lectures then you'll pass as well as doing the online assignments but she will call you out in class without a doubt. if you are on your phone or talking to a friend or come in late she will call you out, she does not care.
A lot of homework. Tests are in class scantrons but they come from the PowerPoints , so they arent bad. Her and the TAs have very heavy accents and do not use microphones so it is very hard to understand. They lectures are the worst. In class tests and assignments!! And iclickers
Tedious homework assignments due monthly. She's not very engaging in class and makes it to lose focus. Everything she talks about in lecture is straight from her powerpoints that you have access too. Only thing is, she does take Iclicker attendance at the end of the class period which will affect your grade.
Don't be disrespectful towards her and make sure you attend the discussion quizzes as well as the reading quizzes and you'll do great. Her lecture style as well as teaching methods are all amazing and I highly recommend taking her class!
I don't get the bad reviews on Prof. Martinez, personally she is lovely and very funny. She was very understanding, resolves issues immediately. Her class was pretty easy, the quizzes are 1st grade level, they give you the answers. But her exams are 100 questions however if you take good notes and study Powerpoints you're good. Attendance HEAVY!
The lectures are quite interesting if you have an interest in anthropology. She is chill when she is respected. Also quote funny, she told some funny stories. If you wanna be on your phone or listen to music during lecture keep an eye out for TAs and sit in the back. Tests were super hard like every time I thought I knew the material I did poorly.
Easy class if you just show up to class and take notes from her powerpoints available on canvas. Show up to lecture and pay attention because she takes attendance. Lectures are kind of boring though
I took this course over the summer so it was 15 chapters taught in 6 weeks. There were 4 chapters due every other week and one due one between those weeks. 2 papers on some movies that were pretty easy. A total of 3 exams that were each 75% of your grade. All of the answers could be found on the powerpoints so if you study them youre golden.
I took the class through distance learning and got a B. Definitely would've gotten a B+ or A if I studied more. TESTS ARE WORTH 75 PERECENT of your grade, so study!
Don't trust anything she says at the beginning of the semester about the exams. I've taken her twice, and both times she's lied to the students about the exams only to switch it up last minute which then induced panic amongst the students. Other than that, her classes are pretty straight forward. Lectures using powerpoints, films, and then tests.
This is the perfect example of when someone is successful in their field but cannot teach a class. She has unrealistic expectations of what her students can accomplish in the time that she gives them between tests, assuming this is your only class. I have 3.8 GPA and this is the hardest class I have ever taken. Take it alone if you want an A.
Tries way too hard to make this class as difficult as possible for no reason.
This class is very difficult. She expects you to remember all the information on her power points including dates! Exams were difficult and stressful. The subject is interesting but the unnecessarily difficult exams are awful.
Professor is very clear from day 1 on what to expect from her class & lectures are interesting. 4 response papers that her TA's grade harshly. She will review/regrade papers if requested. 4 tests 100 Q's long and every answer is found in her PP. 15 HW assignments that count as a participation grade and add 1 extra credit point each to your exam.
Tests are 100 questions and usually cover 3 chapters. So many questions are on not covered in exam reviews, PowerPoints and lectures. Prof. is understanding, but film response papers are inappropriately graded independently by TA's. Prompt response to emails and willingness to review and regrade papers if requested.
4 tests & 4 film papers. The tests are lockdown browser but not too bad as long as you take the time to study. Most of the films are pretty boring and require at least a 2-3 page essay. 15 learnsmart assignments but they are very easy but sadly don't do much to your grade. I took this class during covid so she gave extra credit those who attended
She's very clear about what is on her exams, she gives you study guides for every test and they're pretty helpful. Most professors don't do this, and I appreciate it because she follows her study guides very closely on the exams. She was also pretty understanding about turning things in late. Attendance isn't mandatory either.
Long multiple choice exams with EC, not difficult if you read the PPTs and study guides. Lectures are interesting but kind of dry. Textbook is needed for HW assignments (easy), papers had vague prompts/rubrics and were graded by TAs so being a good writer or getting a good TA will help. Would recommend, especially for an online class.
Everything you need to know is within the slides presented in class. There are also some short supplemental papers that has to be written. The exam is 100 multiple questions but the homework provide +4 so lucky you.
This class was very difficult because the exams were very detailed specific and made of essay and short answer questions. I thought that prof. gave great lectures but was very vague on the exam structure. She gave study guides which were very helpful, and I wouldn't have passed without them. Take this class if you can memorize multiple chapters.
Be prepared to go to class and still not get credit for it! Professor Martinez's attendance policy is the strangest I have ever seen. You get 5 min at the end of class to sign your name on a GoogleDoc to prove you went to class. Miss the link? NO CREDIT NO EXCEPTIONS - even if you went to class! Turned an essay 3 weeks ago and still not graded.
This class is not hard and she does not grade hard as all you have to do is exams of chapters and like 4 essays on old films of cultures. The only issue I had was how her TA's graded. They gave big marks for small mistakes. I would've loved for the actual prof to grade them. Perfect attendance is extra credit at the end. Lockdown exams. No hw.
I looked forward to taking this professor based off the ratings. Worst decision. Only 4 exams and 4 essays for your total semester grade. That would usually be fine but the exams have nothing to do with her lectures. You could know the power points inside and out and still do poorly on the exam. I would not take her class again.
I took Professor Martinez online over the fall semester and it was a really easy class. Mainly vocab, discussion, some short essays (like 600 words each every week). Just do the work and you'll pass
4 tests (no final), 4 essays (on a film). u MUST study for each test. I would study for 5 hrs for each test. Each test has 100questions & all are lockdown browser. The essays are simple but u actually have to try on them since the TA grades them. Turnitin is used so NO PLAGIARISM. This class is lowkey interesting.
Not a difficult class, just be ready your textbook, watch a film every other week or so, and writing discussion posts/essays. the essays arent too long. overall a pretty easy class.
Never again. I do not know why I chose to take this class thinking it would be fun like. You're only graded by 4 tests and 4 papers. I feel like I do not gain anything from the lectures but that is just me personally. The papers are pretty easy but the 100 question tests are something else.
Interesting class but very "open-minded" teacher taught what she believed was right and imposed her beliefs as if they are correct such as religious and political views. Class consists of 4 lockdown browser exams (100 questions each) and 4 movie essays that are graded by her TAs. All test questions come from pdf lectures on canvas.
Martinez is a good professor and nice person, but she does 5 exams that are nothing like the textbook or lectures. They are worth alot of your grade and the only other thing graded is a couple of papers, which are graded by TAs. She talks for so long every class so just do the attendance online. Exams are hard AF
Worst professor at fau. They're only 4 exams and 2 essays. The lectures are useless, I haven't learned anything from them. The exams are 100 questions and hard. DO NOT TAKE HER.
this professor was awful. the lectures were useless and it was extremely hard for me to understand her. I would never recommend anyone to take this class or ever take it again.
Do not take this class with her. Only 6 grades (4 test and 2 papers). Test are 100 questions with a lock down browser and really hard. Papers are graded by her TAs. Has a strong accent can barley understand her. Lectures are pointless she just talks for the whole class. Would never take her again
Do not take her! Her entire class includes 4 exams (100 questions in 100 minutes) and 2 essays. The exams include some questions that she never went over in class. You barely understand anything from her lectures and attendance is mandatory.
Professor Martinez is a great professor. The format of her class is easy to follow, but attendance is mandatory and she does not record her lectures. You will learn a lot in this class.
It's a WAC class so expect a lot of essays. Pretty easy class if you're good at analyzing text and pulling from outside resources. Depending on the TA, they can mark points off and be very tedious. As long as you effectively answer the prompt and correctly cite, there shouldn't be many issues
papers aren't long but tough grader. if you read and understand material then your fine.
Dude. It's an online WAC course, just take it. Extremely easy as long as you pay attention to deadlines. You have to watch hour-long films to write a paper on, but that's about the most annoying thing to do. Watch a film, write a paper, do a vocabulary sheet, take a quiz, rinse and repeat. Anyone that failed this online course is just lazy
Its a WAC class so you write papers every week but their only 500-600 words so it could be worse, vocab term hw every week which isnt hard just tedious, tests and quizzes are easy, easy class to pass and doesn't take much effort.
she's a good person, kind and understanding. attendance is mandatory through a code. class feels really long but overall a good freshman gene
The class is not to hard, all the assignment are open at the beginning of the semester, and they due right after we done the exam. We have 4 exam with lock down browser. the connect assignment are short written assignment most likely asking for your point of view on things.
I took introduction to anthropology online with her. We didn't have zoom, had about 2-3 assignments every week, 1 essay (either film discussion or an expository essay), 1 vocab chart, and an occasional chapter quiz. This class is easy if you read the textbook and make sure to be time oriented. TA does all the grading.
Since it's a WAC class, u have to write a lot of papers, but I personally found it super manageable. Vocab charts are annoying to do, but it's nothing u can't finish in a day. TAs grade everything, so if u have a good one (like I did!), it should be an easy A. If you find the material boring though, the essays might be difficult/annoying.
Thick accent and overall difficult to understand. Professor is not very understanding with due dates, very strict and set in place. Around 4-5 chapters a unit with around 4 assignments for each chapter. Exams were 100 questions with lockdown and webcam. Overall, class was just alright, probably would not use this professor again.
She's a great professor! I've taken several of her classes. If you follow along with your readings and her PowerPoints, it's easy to get an A. She does use lockdown browser, but you have nothing to worry about if you know what you're doing.
If you like getting lectured till your ears bleed be my guees. Did not help that if you miss one lecture you miss about 4-5 chapters worth of notes. Have to be the first one in the class to get a good seat. Otherwise youll end up in the back trying decipher what language she is speaking and be able to make it out through the thick accent.
