I definitely don;t recommend this teacher if you are the least bit bad in math. He isn't very helpful and on top of that he has a very strong accent and you can barely understand him. He goes very fast and won't slow down, also homework is constant and a heavy load.
i would recommend this teacher.. he has a very stable teaching method.. he knows what he's talking about. it's only hard if you're in college and treating it like HIGH SCHOOL. i got an A in his class - i didn't do well on quizzes and i missed half of one of his tests.. he's a great teacher with his weird jokes as well
He's lame. Goes way to fat and refuses to help for any reason. I got a 68 and he refused to give me extra work so i could pass..his accent really isn't that bad, and he is funny but all the same, if math is on your sucky list, try someone else
Great math teacher, his tests are multiple choice kinda hard. The very best way to understand his lectures is if you do the hw and if you don't understand it go to the math lab, and if he is in there he explains his lectures in greater detail. i got a B in his class and he made me understand algebra alot better. oh he says funny jokes too.
He does move fast so u really need to take good notes...but if u do the work before u come to class...its way easier to understand and he can help with ur problems....he teaches u shortcuts and easier ways of doing things....i had no problem understanding him because he doesnt have a bad accent...but if u dont want to do the work u really shouldnt
I took the online class and it wasn't that hard nor that easy. only checks his messages once a week so if you need help better ask another student first.
Mr. R is a great teacher. He is very helpful and dedicated to his profession. He is willing to help anybody who shows that they care about their education.
Mr. R is an excellent teacher. He helps anybody who cares about their education. He is really polite and he has a cool British accent. I recommend him to anybody who is scared of math but not scared of work.
RACATAIAN IS A GOOD TEACHER WHO MAKES THESE JOKES THAT ARE WIERD BUT FUNNY. YOU DO EVERY OTHER ODD PROBLEM ON HOMEWORK. THE QUIZES ARE KINDA HARD BUT THE CH. TESTS AND FINAL ARE EASY. COOL GUY WHO IS VERY HELPFUL IF YOU ASK.
Great teacher. The end
really good teacher. YAMATA SULA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. R was a great teacher. The last time I took Algebra was 30 years ago and I got an A. This was the first time I ever got an A in Algebra. He was very patient but expects you to work hard, pay attention, DON'T MISS CLASS and DO YOUR HOMEWORK!! Get to know him, he is very nice. If you are a slacker, don't waste his time.
Not the best around but can be okay.
heis funny like in a wierd way...he never smiles and he makes u laugh that way..his class isnt hard...one of our tests was take home..and he always has quizzes but they almost always take home..and their only like 1 or five questions... one time he even gave an A for a quiz we never took if we jut went to the class..i would reccommend him
I think he moves too fast, he doesn't explain things in detail and skips ahead as if you already know the math. However he is cool, the tests are multiple choice, the quizes are 5 questions, etc.. the homework amount though is insane, it takes me about 6 hrs to finish; however that is from an accelerated course.
I don't reccomend him if you have a hard time understanding math. He doesn't explain things in detail for us slow learners. Although,he drops the lowest test and quiz score.
I'm currently taking his Hybrid course, which is both challenging, yet fun seeing as how I don't need to be in class the whole time. Tests are easy, so far, and TONS of practice online makes the class that much easy. I totally recommend his Hybrid course if you're looking to just get thru Math.
I have taken Mr. R for math 52, 35 and 11. He is a great teacher, he takes his time to help those out who do not understand. He is dedicated to helping those out who honestly work hard. Math 11 was very challeging and Mr. R introduces sections to help students go above the norm. He is great.
He knows his subject matter and he teaches it well- much better than some other teachers. He has some grading mercy on you but expects almost no absences or tardies and all or most of the homework to be turned in on time or your grade will suffer.
his class is difficult if you are not good at math but if you are good at math then his class is a peice of cake, he is a really good teacher and knows what he is talking about
He takes time to explain things if you do not understand. If you are a slow learner, DO NOT take the 1/2 semester course. Like any other teacher, he will move quickly. I am okay at math and usually learn at a slower pace, but I was able to keep up with the material. He follows the syllabus exactly, so you know what to expect ahead of time :)
Took him before, and loved him. He definitely changed this semester. May be a one time thing, but was not helpful this semester. I'm okay at math, but I ended up dropping the class.
He seems really burnt out and watches the clock constantly as if he can't wait to leave. He is angry if we don't ask questions, but makes fun of the questions we ask, or at least rolls his eyes. I heard good things, but this is the worst class I have taken at RCC.
Man, this guy seriously hates his job and it shows! He's always sighing, rolling his eyes, and slouching. He makes sarcastic remarks when students ask him hw questions like "it's magic". It's basically like he's up on the board doing the problems for himself as he goes super fast, skipping steps, and failing to explain all of the steps.
hes makes you feel stupid when you ask a question. and when he answers you he doesn it fast and doesnt care if you understand. dont take this class. its easy if you know math, but if its not your best subject dont take this teacher
he was easy as long as you paid attention and got involved. DO NOT USE YOUR CELL IN CLASS!!! he will not be pleased. it seems alot of the kids not really paying attention has problems with him.
dont take him unless your already good at math. if you ask a question he makes you feel stupid. and doesnt take any time to go over anything you dont understand. the only good thing is he doesnt acually grade your homework. he just checks to make sure all your answers are filled in.
Great teacher. Look forward to taking other classes with him. Great sense of humor!
Mr. Racatain is the best teacher I have ever had. He makes math easy to understand, and has the best sense of humor of any teacher I have had. Although he may be sarcastic at times, he truely cares about his students. GO RACATAIN!!! NLW
Mr. Racatain may be sarcastic and witty at times, but he helped bring up my confidence in math. He is so intelligent, and makes his students laugh on a daily basis. Without him, my mathematics major would not have even been an option. N.L.W
Mr. Racataian is my absolute favorite teacher. He is funny, organized and very helpful when it comes to asking questions. I admire how easily he can complete a calculus problem and love that he has the patience to go over step by step the material that I do not understand, especially since math is not my strongest subject. E.B.
Mr. Racataian cares about each and every student that works hard and wants to learn, so I suggest stop checking phones during class time. Also, he is always on task to make sure he teaches us every thing we can in the time allotted, that is why he checks the clock frequently. He loves his job, genuinely. E.B.
This is the greasy math teacher i have ever had in my life. This is the first time I really understood math this well, he has a great sense of humor, explains everything in great detail.
This is the greatest math teachers have ever had in my life. He has a great sense of humor and explains math in great detail. Best teacher you could have teaching you math. EMH
Mr. Racataian is definitely one of the best teachers there is. He manages his time well and when you ask questions he takes time and explains it step by step. He has a great sense of humor and anyone who thinks he's a bad teacher is out of their mind. -S.B.
To all the students in Mr. Racataian's class that get on their phones during class to check facebook and twitter, you need to stop. You know you only have 100 friends and 20 followers. Learn what's more important in life. PAY ATTENTION AND GET IT TOGETHER!!
Mr. Racataian is one of the best teachers that there is. He manages his time well and when you have a question he takes time to explain it step by step. He has a great sense of humor and anyone that thinks he's a bad teacher is out of their mind. -S.B.
Mr. Racatan is one of the greatest math teachers I have ever had. He makes class interesting and fun with his use of sarcasm making lessons more interesting and easier to comprehend and is over all awesome J.M.
Mr. Racataian is a sarcastic, stubborn, intelligent teacher, and im so thankful for being able to take his class this year. Though he can be tough, not to mention rude he somehow has the ability to grab the attention of his students, getting through the lesson plan, and throwing in a few jokes as well. all together,he's a very talented teacher!-RCA
He is an outstanding teacher. Whenever you have questions, he is willing to answer them in a very clear manner in order for you to understand. He does a great job at teaching math, I couldn't of had a better teacher.
He is a really helpful teacher at all times. He always does a great job at explaining difficult lessons, especially when you have questions. Not onlys is he an amazing teacher, but he manages to keep the class entertained while giving his lessons. J.Q.
He is pure awesomeness!!!No joke he is really helpful, funny, and nice. He makes calculus look like pre-algebra :D- C.D
Mr. Racataian is a an amazing teacher who is constantly making sure that no student is falling behind. He will always answers questions or offer outside help if necessary. I have truly enjoyed his class and have improved in my math skills tremendously. H.H.
Aside from the difficult course of his class, Mr. Racataian is a great math teacher. He's funny to entertain his class. He is helpful when anyone struggles on their math hw.
He is a great teacher and has a good sense of humor. He make the lesson so easy that a cave man can do it. JC
One of the best math teachers i've ever had. his course is very organized, he explains everything clearly, quizes are simple, tests are easy. he gives a lot of homework but what math teacher doesn't. he's funny and helpful.
Very helpful...will go out of his way to help you understand the work and pass. As long as you take notes you will do well on tests as he sticks to what he lectures on. Some take home quizzes, homework is worth a lot but it's not overwhelming. Would highly recommend this professor.
Great teacher. First math teacher I took and he is very clear and helpful with his lectures. Very clear with his lectures and makes math interesting. A student asked him why he never tells stories and towards the end of the school year he kept telling us stories about math haha.
he comes off a little cold in the beginning but he's actually kind of funny, and he really wants you to pass! the homework is worth a lot just make sure you get it done RIGHT because he checks if the work is correct.he drops the 2 lowest test stores and 2 quizzes. He teaches the material in a simple easy to understand manner.highly reccomend him!
Only take him if you're already good in math ,
Great teacher. ALWAYS willing to help his students when they are struggling.
Beware of this professor, you should not take this guy. If you don't want a C, I would suggest not taking this guy at all. He is a really horrible test giver, and will grade harshly. If you're going into precalculus, I would suggest upon not taking him at all.
I took him for trig. He does care about his students and he is a nice guy, but he is very hard to understand, he does not go into depth in terms of where, why, and how to get from the question to the answer, personally I do not like his teaching style.
Had Mr. Racataian for high school AP calculus or Math 135 at rcc lol. He was a good teacher but idk. His test are easy if you just study. Homework is worth alot. But the clarity isn't really good. Had a better precalc teacher but after my first year with him he isnt bad but isnt great either.
I am one of a few who actually enjoy math. Professor Racataian is nice & makes it easy to learn. His class isn't hard and it was easy to accomplish an A. He grades fairly & preps you for his tests. I would take another class with him.
I truly loved this professor! He is upfront about his grading and his lectures are clear. Do the homework before the due date in order to be ready for the weekly quiz. Any questions you have on the homework he will help clear up for you. He wants students to actively participate and respond to his questions. I highly recommend him!
Grades harshly, doesnt care. Encourages you to task questions but if you really ask him he will tell you not to anymore. Avoid him even if it means taking it one semester later. Good luck if you do take him though.
He's a great teacher. If you don't pay attention, don't expect to pass. If you do your work, he will meet you halfway. Show effort and he will work his hardest to help you. The class may seem difficult at some points, but everyone is more than capable of being successful.
Mr. Racataian was the best in going over all material. Very thorough. It may be a little tough, but you will pass the exams because of how clear and precise he is in lectures. If you are looking for an easy A and try and coast through this class, look somewhere else. I would definitely take any of his courses again.
he is , as the cool kids would say , lit
This professor does outstanding work and prepares you very well for every quiz and test of the each part of the subject as long as you are willing to show up to class every day as well as asking for work you may have missed. He will stay after hours, as long as you ask, to help you with any questions or problems you have and are struggling with.
Math is not my forte, and I waited 4 years to take geometry , after taking intermediate algebra, But I really enjoyed this professor. He made various math concepts easier to grasp, and does not make you feel like an idiot when you make mistakes. would recommend, especially for people who are a bit insecure. I will take him for mat 36...
Mr. Racataian is an excellent professor. He truly cares for his students and his exams reflect what you learn in lecture and what you practice in the homework. He also has a nice exotic accent that is a real joy to listen to!
He does not care about his students. The lectures are very hard to understand because he flies through them without any explanation. His sarcastic humor is rude.
This professor is not for you if you're a slow learner. Goes through lectures rather quick expecting you to know what is going on. Don't rely on the lectures to fully understand each chapter, instead think of the lectures as framework of each chapter. Do a lot of studying outside the classroom.
If you're a slow leaner than this is not the professor for you. He goes through the lectures really quick and doesn't explain much while he is doing example problems. A lot of outside the classroom studying is necessary. He expects you to come in knowing what you are doing.
He does fly through lectures but if you dont understand then ask a question hell go over another problem. If not hes just going to move on, make sure to pay attention and dont miss class unless you actually understand the chapter hes going to teach, make sure to turn in all work. Outside studying might be needed if you cant follow along.
I took Math 1A over the summer with Professor Racataian and I really liked having him as my teacher. He has a heavy accent so it was a little hard to understand him at first but you gradually get used to it. He is very fast in his teaching style but will spend as much time as you need to explain something if you ask.
Professor Racataian is awesome. Key tips: stay off your phone during class (BIG no no) and show up! Overall good time.
Prof Racataian is a great mathematics professor who knows his stuff. He will treat you as an adult, and expects that behavior. He has an accent but it is not bad whatsoever, nor will it impede learning in any way. Be responsible, do the work, study the concepts, and you WILL learn from this man. You get out of it what you put into it.
These positive reviews of him have got to be fake. Take his class and you'll understand what I mean. He is difficult to follow. Only take him if you are already good at math.
He is the only teacher that explains math concepts so that you understand what the terms, definitions and formulas mean and what they refer to. He does however assign quite a bit of homework, so it is imperative you do the homework at home as he has strict deadlines on everything. For how the class is run he is extremely lenient as well compared to
Professor Racataian is a very difficult professor but an amazing one. He is willing to help outside of class and during. You have to try your hardest to achieve the A but if you really work towards it it is more the possible. His grading is fair and he assigns a lot of homework so you have a lot of practice. Overall amazing guy.
DO NOT TAKE, he makes many mistakes while teaching and on tests, which mess up your grade. Even before COVID he was a tough grader, the practice tests count towards grade so do well on those, he is not tech savy with Canvas as other professors are. VERY LONG hours of commitment for some hw papers, at the end dropped the lowest test grade.
MATH1A in general is a hard, if you follow along every single lecture you will get the concepts. He did a lot of extra credit and helped the whole class to pass with a C or higher. He never wants his students to fail. Just ask for help. His lectures are confusing at times but he will do step by step to help you understand.
He's a fine professor, easy to follow in lectures BUT for homework you have to buy the book so you can gain access to this website. You cannot do it another way, which really sucks for us broke college kids.
This is the worst professor. Its like he is casually doing math by himself while you watch. He does not explain anything, super fast, skips steps and expects you to know the steps he skips, and does not go into detail about anything. If you ask for help/ask a question, he rolls his eyes and acts like its a chore to talk to you. Terrible teacher.
You will literally sit there and watch him ramble off random formulas with zero in-depth explanation. He uses a projector and scribbles during the lecture, then he goes over the Cengage homework and it's crickets... No one knows what's going on and everyone is too embarrassed to say it. I couldn't handle it, and I don't recommend him.
He is an amazing professor. At first everybody was scared to talk, but the class was reaching its end people started talking. He is straight. He gets to the point. He worked out problems when we had trouble.
Professor Racataian is a great teacher, it was hard to understand him at first but he really cares about his students.
Mr.Racataian is really good at explaining the topics and providing examples is really helpful. He is to the point and funny. You do have to pay attention because he moves fast but overall if you do the work, it is fairly easy.
Prof. Racataian is a very straightforward, humorous and dedicated teacher. his lessons will move rather quickly, however, he is more than willing to spend the time to tutor you if you need help. There were many times when he would spend his weekends tutoring his students rather than take a break. If you are hardworking, you will enjoy his class.
These ratings have got to be fake, I think he rates himself. 4 assignments every week and a test also. Must turn in your notes. Miss 3 classes in the entire school semester and he will drop you. Final is from everything you learned from the entire semester, in person proctored on paper and also worth 40% of your grade. Would never recommend him.
I honestly should've listened to ALL the reviews on here. I never understand what he's talking about because he goes way too fast and skips steps. He just expects you to know all the terms without ever explaining them and to do most calculations in your head. Don't ask him a lot of questions, he becomes annoyed and his tone becomes condescending.
He is a high school teacher and not fit to be a Professor at a college or university. Does not explain anything and expects students to already know certain formulas. Moves quickly and it is hard to understand him as his accent is heavy. He gets frustrated when anyone asks questions and makes the students feel uncomfortable. Good ratings are fake.
The class was pretty hard but easy to understand if you ask for help. You just need to keep up on the work and get everything in on time. This teacher was very funny and easy to get along with. He knows when you need help and is understanding of your situation.
Overall this Pro. isn't that bad I took his trig class and it's just you have to study a lot. He does fly through lectures I'm not going to lie, He is very sarcastic as well, but overall you'll enjoy him if you're a people person, and know how to get along with people. I enjoyed this teacher! As long as you ask questions and study you won't fail.
Test heavy & lecture heavy! Homework light. sometimes the lecture on the board can be unclear but if u follow with the textbook pages it's SO MUCH easier to follow. I dozed off/skipped sometimes and it took me a while to catch up. I didn't really ever interact with prof since I never needed help, but he seems open to helping struggling students.
The way this prof. teaches is very frustrating because it's as if he expects everyone in the class to already know what he's doing and spends very little time explaining his work. He writes very fast and it's impossible to stay on pace when taking notes, when you ask him to slow down he sighs, waits 15 seconds and keeps going. Avoid at all costs.
5 star reviews have to fake, there is nothing funny or humerous about his "teaching" during lecture. Hardly does he stop besides to drink water and goes right into it. Everything is graded with no clear deadlines. He'll give you packet at the start of every lecture and he expects them to be done when he feels like it. AVOID AT ALL COST!!!
