dr hurley is such a sweetheart. she's very outgoing and always in a good mood. shes so helpful. gives you a review w. the questions that will be on the midterms and the finals. its alot of reading but if you read you'll do fine. tape her lectures because sometimes it's a little fast paced, but i highly recommend her. im taking her for his 102. :)
she might seem hard at first!!!!! i think she tries to scare off some students!! but she is really fun and easy if you catch her method!
Wonderful Professor. Lectures are very clear and understandable. Post grades immediately online. I would highly recommeded this professor.
she is really nice BUT she is not easy. her quizes and tests are hard. you will have to study a lot to even get a good grade. she probably was a honors teacher before coming to UCC. If you want a challege, go for it. good luck!
When i first met this teacher! i thought she was from another planet!!!!! she was straight forward about her method! and she scared people out!! but now i got a hang of her class! if you read her material, powerpoint and the book! you will be fine!! attendance is mandatory so don't miss class! and she gives alot of chances to make up your grades!
She needs to learn how to teach more efficently. all she do is rush through through the material and the material does not match what she says. I have been to her twenty times during this semester and stil not have learned anything.
she seems really hard but if you can catch her method she is a breeze. for midterm and final exams she practically gives you her questions and answers for the exam during the jeapordy games. essays are a little tricky. need to pay attention to videos for essays. for shorts tests just print out lecture notes and read thoroughly and you'll get easy A
120+ definition quizzes (she only asks 20) ... same old material she designed back from 2003. She treats everyone like we are still a CHILD IN HIGHSCHOOL. She blows through her teaching. BORING BORING. Learned nothing. I cant find anyone in my class that likes this woman. She just seems miserable!
She's a chalenging professor, which is a good thing.Knows exactly what to do with her classes. Expects you to do the readings and prepare for quizes/presentations/jeopardy/finals.This is not HS! The hist of the westrn civ became much more interesting after her lectures. Totally taking her for 102.
Was worried when I read the reviews on here before the semester. While her class is hard, if you get to know her she is actually really nice/helpful. Her grading system is pretty great, I probably deserved a B and because of presentations/extra credit ended up with an A.
I took this professor for HIS 101 and at first i thought she was hard. Once i got the hang of things the work became easier. You MUST read her notes and the book to comprehend the work. She is a fair grader and i learned a lot from her class.
Completely useless. I reget believing my friends when they told me that she was good. Her "group" is a shame because they did nothing and are useless like her
i never have anything bad to say about teachers, but after taking this class, i felt as if this prof has a different way of grading and very unfair. She would only have notes which the students would need to print out themselves, group work, presentations, and etc......i pay for school for teachers to teach me not for me to teach myself....
She comes off as a nice person, but the professor seems to think we do not have any other college classes and overloads you with tons of work from the first day throughout the semester. Do not take if your already full time.
At first her class seems like it would be easy, but she really catches you off guard with the quizes! VERY tricky, but once you get the hang of her notes and reading the book frequently, class will seem much more enjoyable and easier for you. She is a very good professor, always willing to help, and every point counts! And she's a COUGAR!<3
very anal about attendence and doesnt care for u to much
Surprised to see so many unjustified comments about this professor! Lectures are crystal clear and grades are almost immediately posted on ANGEL. While the exams can be a little tricky, there are plenty of opportunities to redeem yourself. Honestly, if you're not willing to put in effort then just forget about getting a good grade!
This lady comes off as the nicest person on earth...until she starts droning on during her lectures which no one really listens to...you have to teach your self with her slides she is a bad grader and it is very hard to get an A she doesn't really care about her students either...just take someone else for history and save yourself the trouble.
She is a great teacher! class is not for the faint of heart though! be prepared to work your butt off! i loved this class and her. She is willing to help everyone and as long as your really making an effort she will consider that come grading! always print the slides and skim the reading. I wish i could take her again! Its a real college course!
She isn't a pushover by any means, but it's college. You won't get handed an A,but it's not as hard as people make it out to be.Do your homework, print the slides, and you'll do fine. She gives many chances to improve your grade, and grades on a point system.Grades are posted right away on ANGEL,and she's really approachable.
Dr. Hurley's tests are notoriously difficult, but overall she is by far the best professor I've had in my life. She DOES care about her students regardless of what others say. She may seem intimidating, but she tells you exactly what's up the first day, and if you stick to it and actually TRY, you'll actually LEARN. She changed my life! :D <3
VERY HARD. CRAZY LECTURES. GRADING SYSTEM SUCKED. DOES REALLY HELP OUT THE STUDENTS LIKE SHE SAYS. BUT STILL GOTTA TEACH OURSELVES..
Its my second time taking this professor i like her alot but her course is not easy at all...you need alot of memorization and the quizes are very tricky
This is a serious professor. Come to class, it matters. She gives a lot of work, but you do learn a lot, and her lectures are on par to a standard 4-year university. She is fair in grading. She is very helpful and kind, unless you are extremely immature. She gives you notes, uses angel, exams are alright.
Print the online quizzes now(11 pts)'cause they get annoying and won't help if you juggle classes at your own pace.Study them-answers/explanations,and you can read the book LESS.She's SO clear in her syllabus.Easy to pass, FAIRly hard to get an A.I personally preferred the few times she just lectured over PowerPoints. Overall I admire her teaching.
i learned alot from her. But her quizes are to hard and she don't let you leave to go to the bathroom she will take points off your grade and if you are texting she will take points off your grade this is my second time taking her class and i am not going well in it becuase her test are way to hard
Best teacher I had this whole semester. His 101 contains A LOT of info but she used slides and were clear about what to study as to make it easier. If you want an easy A take another subject all together. Fun course, loved it!
Power Point slides a must, especially for quizzes. Homework assignments are great for extra credit. Quizzes are fairly easy if you study the slides. Test are hard if you don't understand the subject. Teacher was clear on expectations. Everything is on the syllabus, so no excuses accepted. Overall, good, effective teacher.
Dr. Hurley is okay. I was considering not attending her very class this semester since I did not really enjoy it for HIS101. Her grading system, I'm not too fond of. It's based on points and not percentage. No bathroom breaks allowed. About 4-5 quizzes, midterm, and final. Never cancels class. Very strict, especially with attendance. GL.
Dr. Hurley is an amazing professor. She really loves teaching history, and she makes it interesting to learn about. Students that rate her poorly, dislike her because they are lazy and don't want to do any work.
Dr. Hurley is a very good COLLEGE professor. Sadly, this college is full of student-wannabes. They wanna be students, but don't want to do any work. "Bathroom breaks" in college. Seriously!? People get mad when she takes points off for texting in class. How about PAYING ATTENTION instead of texting!? I do the work and my grades reflect it.
Prof. Hurley is an amazing teacher. She grades fairly. ATTENDANCE IS A MUST. Book was very rarely used except for group presentations. She was very helpful and offers participation points at various times throughout the semester. TAKE HER CLASS SERIOUSLY. If she assigns self tests TAKE THEM the points DO ADD UP. very little homework
Prior to Dr. Hurley's class, I disliked History. After this class concluded, I realized how interesting it is. This is the mark of a great professor! She is very enthusiastic about the subject, thus her teaching is very effective. I did well because her notes are so precise. There are 5 quizzes, 2 group projects, a MT, & a FE. Highly recommended!
She's a nice lady I guess, she teaches with a lot of slides and you have to read the book or else you wont pass. Its a lot of material that she crams in so review!
terrible
She's really sweet, but her class is pretty boring. She lectures the entire time. However, her class is really not hard, and she gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. I did not take one of the quizzes and still finished the semester with an A. Wouldn't take her again though, her lectures make you fall asleep!!!
The worst prof ever. Grades poorly, very confusing, not helpful at all. can't get the points you deserve. Does not even try to help. During spring break she would post an assignment and will give 0 if you do not do it. Which I think is not fair. That could be an extra credit work.
Beware! She was a horrible professor. Hurley made an online class feel like boot camp you can get A's and B's on the homework assignments, however, she if you miss a quiz your grade goes down one letter grade. If you want to maintain a high GPA, do not take her class you will regret it. She is not helpful at all. Her grading system is the worst!!!
She's a bit cold. Not a bad teacher but tough cookie. Make sure you double check syllabus and dates. she messed up a lot and still expected s to be perfect.
Dr. Hurley is the best professor at UCC. She is approachable and makes her expectations very clear. She is always available to help and truly cares about her students. Go to class, pay attention and put in the effort and you will be rewarded. She always has great shoes :) She is a college professor, not a babysitter.
her online class was too hard. I actually meet with her and told her the reason why I was taking an online class(she ask) I told her I work full time and I am trying to finish college, yet her online class was a boot-camp you have something to do every day even papers to do on Fridays. Saturdays and sundays she has test to do. Very hard professor.
Doesn't follow her own syllabus. She says quizzes will be available for the entire week and unlocks them for two days only. Not very helpful when answering questions.
Professor Hurley is great! One of the most helpful, encouraging, and engaging professors @ UCC! Highly recommended. Be prepared to work & to learn because you will do both. This is college, it's not supposed to be easy. One of my favorite classes in college so far. Students will have to work for their grades but content it always interesting.
Dr. Hurley is an excellent professor! I have had the pleasure of having her as my professor in 2 classes: one in person and one online. In both classes I was given a syllabus, which clearly outlined the class requirements. If you want an excellent grade you must study and put all your effort into the discussion boards, exams, and the final paper.
This is a very straightforward course and if you're willing to put in the work you will most definitely pass. This has been one of my better online courses and the workload isn't crazy high. You can have a social life, focus on other classes, and still have time to do the assignments. Highly recommended to anyone who can only take online courses.
bad at basically everything you can imagine as she is just like Demaro in giving exams and giving chances
I took her class honors, and she is going to make you work. In-class lectures aren't too bad, plus her lectures are put online along with practice quizzes for review. Homework is frequent, but she is available and very willing to help if you go to see her when you're having issues. She may even remove assignments if enough students feel overwhelmed
Very in-depth slides (about 55 per chapter). Is able to summarize from textbook and also shed light into material not cover in the textbook. Quizzes on every chapter (10questionsper chapter ) and one essay (one page). Will give outline for midterm and Final. Final is not cumulative. Extra credit given out for last week. She will adjust grades.
Very hard professor, get ready to do a lot of reading and work. She gives power points that are about 48 or higher pages (2 per week) and you need to do a discussion. The quizzes are only 5-10 questions, most of which do not pertain to the power points. The "study guide" she gives for the midterm does not help at all.
Took her class in honors 101 and 102. Quizzes are easy if you study the powerpoints everything is laid out in front of you. She explains things in class if you don't understand and don't ask questions you'll fail. Her projects and essays are self explanatory if you're lazy and don't research then you'll fail. Loved her
If you take this class be prepared to do your work and read. If you do the work, its straight forward. Her midterm hit me left field. Also, she doesn't seem to care if you have some type of emergency because even when I emailed her to let her know my assignment would be late she still took off points. I wouldn't take her again. Not the worst though
even if your trying that's not enough for her, I would never take her again. If your determined to graduate this isn't the professor for you.
The most labor intensive class ever. I took the summer session online. In 1wk, I had to read 3 chapters, 3 lecture powerpoint slides (45slides each), 2-3 videos (approx. 2-3hrs), 3 quizzes, 1 research essay, 2 research responses to other classmates essays. This was bootcamp. On top of all of this work, she is a extremely harsh grader.
This class is intense. However, you have to work hard in life for anything you want. You have to put in the time needed to read assigned chapters and hand in essays on time. You don't have to watch the videos if you read the chapters and study go over her power points. Read chapters assigned and review her power point. It prepares you for her test.
Horrible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you want to graduate DONT TAKE HER. She is a harsh grader and expects too much in so little time. worse decision I made was picking her!
Lectures based on Power point. Don't take this class if you don't enjoy reading. Easy class as long as you stay on top of the reading. She gives a lot of extra credit if you need it. If you take this class lightly you won't do well. Overall it really is an interesting class if you like history.
I had the pleasure of taking Dr. and she is by far an excellent professor. Her lectures are filled with information but she makes it easy to follow and encourages participation. She has high expectations and will recognize the effort you put forth. Plenty of extra credit assignments which is always a plus.
excellent teacher, very nice and relaxed but strong and passionate about her job. loved her ways of teaching and how she is understanding and very easy to talk to. love her sense of historical/nerdy humor!
She's a very tough grader and very specific for what she wants but shes kind of hard to get in reach of.
The class would of been better had she not been so harsh. I took this class online because I work fulltime. This professor does not care she will open an assignment on Sunday not at 12:00pm as she stated on syllabus, when she was ready then you needed to have the essay and work cited page by Tuesday. She will deduct points. Please be mindful.
The first assignment I wasn't awarded all points. It was only Introducing yourself and choosing a person you would like to interview. After confronting her, I was given a half point more (still not full) because I didn't state what I would ask. Confused, I saved everything and dropped it in fear of what the rest of the semester would bring.
This was an intense online course. She doesn't play around, it's true. But the subject was interesting and she was very clear about how she graded,
This is a hard class if your looking for an easy A stay away from her it's a very hard class to get a good grade in she take points off for everything I wrote a very good essay and she have me an F because I forgot to include and arguement piece on it
wish i came on here b4 i reg for class. believe what you read. wish i never took this class with her. She is pleasant, but the class is HARD! She flies through the slides, grades unfairly, study guide doesnt match exam at all and she put like 7 chapters on the exam. i hate all the group projects. she acts like evry1 is a history major. HORRIBLE!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! If u want to pass. I took this class online, but she gives u poor grades especially on your weekly discussions. She's not even specific about what she wants in terms of what's suppose to be on discussions She's a HARSH grader and she takes points off everything. Her tests are all on cengage and you can't even study for it.
By far THE WORSE professor I have experienced in my two years of college. She thinks your only taking her class and does not care. She does not clearly state what she wants in your work, and talks forever. Lectures are heavy, honestly haven't learned anything in class but to never take her again. Save your money and choose another professor.
Dr. Hurleys class is demanding but this is college. Stay on track with the reading (yes, there is a lot) and participate -youll pass. She gives many opportunities for extra credit so take advantage! Those points really help boost your grade. She grades fairly and clearly lets you know what shes looking for in discussions and on test essays.
She was very engaging and it was clear she truly enjoyed teaching this class. Though it was an online lecture, she expected us to work in groups for certain chapters and really tested your knowledge of the material. You definitely have to study and study her notes to pass this class because she is VERY specific. Overall enjoyed being her student.
I dont know if it was because I took this class online, but the class was just harder compared to my other online classes. I did not focus too much on this class since I only took it for the credits, but to actually get a good grade you need to be on top of this class and really understand if you wanna pass the final.
She's good, she's really nice, if you need more time for a paper, she can give more time, but you HAVE TO participate in the class, she calls by name and ask you questions about the class. She gives papers instead of exams, but the exam is easy if you study and pay attention to the classes. Be prepared to weekly discussions and group presentations.
My issue with this professor is that she lacks clear communication when giving feedback in addition to being completely rude and disrespectful to students. She is rude and doesn't offer any kind of solutions for improvement. One week, my quotes and writing are "great". The following week I am told "I still don't get my quotes right" Which is it?
She does not give clear instructions for any of the work that she expects to be done and it is clear that she does not read the work that you submit thoroughly if at all.
Tests every Friday. Not allowed to eat or drink during the 1 hour lecture. Not allowed to Use the bathroom during the course. Professor goes through lesson too quickly. I would never take this course again
By far the WORST professor I've ever had!! She does not care about you, goes through material way too fast, expects you to know multiple chapters in the span of a week. The worst experience I've ever had with a professor. I do not recommend this class unless you love papers, presenting, and lectures. Please get a new professor, UCC! Never again.
Not clear about what she wants. Says you do something good one week then the next it will be wrong. Test every week and discussion every week as well. One thing wrong and she will drop your grade drastically.
Dr. Hurley make class interactive. There are a few group projects in this class, but she's very fair as long as you put in some effort. She gives plenty of extra credit as long as you participate. Chapter Tests every Friday night are the only true homework other than the group presentations and debates.
The only people I know that didn't like her class were very lazy. This is college, if you think this class is difficult then you might as well try going back to high school.
Awesome Professor! Really enjoyed her class and learned a lot about Western Civilization. Would without a doubt take her again, only reason I didn't is because she doesn't teach 102 without Honors!
professor hurley is a very strict professor and her grading is very stricy. I strongly recommend that you don't take her class because she is just super strict.
Prof is bad! Took online and it's too much needless work. Makes you do a essay for each chapter, 3 sources and works cited. I don't mind essays but the rest is dumb. Questions are hard, long and some aren't in the text. Strict, unfair, and takes points off for stuff you've been doing that she never mentioned not to do. Suddenly points taken away.
If I could get her fired I would. I should've gotten an A but she put 2 250 essays for the first 2 questions on the exam, which made me unable to answer each question. 40 multiple choice questions afterward are absurd. My Chem exams had 25 questions each. She's extra and docked me almost 20 points over not linking correctly. Save yourself from her
Dr. Hurley's class was my absolute favorite the material was interesting her lectures were engaging and the group assignments were dare I say fun. I'm a huge history buff and there was never a boring moment in her class. But she did assign a lot of work and she was a strict grader. If I wasn't such a history buff I probably wouldn't have done well
Very interesting class. It is a lot of work but that is just the course. She gives great lectures. 3 Group projects.
Will have a lot of debates. Not very accomidative with what one asks if one is confused.
She can come off as a bit stern, but she has great intent. She keep things 100% and is very professional. She's also very understanding, if anything is going on in your life that is preventing from being present for a day or two, explain to her in email. She has a heart. It was a fun class overall with the weekly debates and presentations.
This professor expects essays every week, with a quiz, and to answer a couple questions after watching a 40 minute video. Very time consuming. A lot of the work was very unnecessary. She is rude and not accommodating at all. I would advise you to get a different professor if possible and only take her if she is your last resort.
This is the only class that made my GPA go down. She is not nice, and she even made fun of me once for using parenthesis on an essay. She also targets girls when they are presenting or speaking. Something is off about her...
Ableist, strict, do not take. She told me to drop her class because she would not accept my disabilities accommodations that I got received through the school after a long process. Illegal and disrespectful. If you are late 5 minutes you will be marked absent. It's her way or you will fail.
Main complaint is her grading criteria is very unclear and there are uncommunicated expectations that you will only discover after your assignments are graded. Rarely did she advise us of the material that would be on the tests. Group projects have potential but she awkwardly forces you to pick members on the first day based on people's appearances
You can get an A in this class if you study all the test your knowledge questions at the end of the slideshows For the exam you should and be able to answer the big idea questions at the start of each section on the online textbook. You will be happy with the knowledge you gained after taking this class
This online summer course is extremely rigid. No make-up work is allowed, and assignments are due every other day, with heavy reading and recorded responses. It feels like there's no regard for students' time. In fairness, I took on too much this summer, but the instructor shows little concern for student success.
Professor Hurley is an amazing professor, but that Summer online course is absolutely insane. The extremely long videos we had to upload every couple of days (that NEVER worked for me!) were so difficult to deal with. I'd take her class again, but in a regular term. I couldn't keep up with this class. But to be fair, she is fair grader.
