This class is awesome...Attendance is not mandatory, but she has short quizzes at the beginning of class so it is in your best interest to attend. Listen in class, read the texts and study your guaranteed to get an A. She is extremely helpful and even though history can be boring, she makes it interesting.

Even though I didn't take 1510, I am still able to follow along with the lectures. She is very organized and informative. The study guides are very helpful and you will do well on the test if you do them.

Dr. Emanoil is an excellent instructor. If you have to this course, take it with her. She is crystal clear in explaining the material that is not so clear in the text book and her tests are based on study guides that she gives you the week of so nothing is of surprise. Professor Emanoil taught both my HIS1510 and HIS1520 class. She was an outstanding professor and I could not give a more glowing recommendation. The lectures were entertaining and the homework was actually relevant to what was discussed in class. I wouldn't take a world history class with any other teacher.

I would highly recommend Prof. Emanoil to anyone for World History. If you are going to take her, I would recommend you attend class each week and read according to the study guide she provides. She does give weekly quiz's and 3 Exam's. The classes are 4 hours but breaks are given and the classes are fun and informative.

As far as the "hot or not" category goes, she's the finest teacher I've ever had.:) Her looks aside, though, the class is very easy. Just do the reading assignments and use the study guide to prepare for the exams and the class is an easy A. Highly recommended for anyone who needs credits in history or humanities.

i love history and this class and professor made it even better. she really knows what she is talking about, so she adds interesting facts that keep me alert during lectures, she always shows interesting movie clips and has a wonderful sense of humor. i recommend her to any student taking a history class.

The material is EXTREMELY well organized and presented. Reading guides zero in on important stuff. No stupid assignments. Some easy quizzes to keep you on point. Essay exams with study guides that tell you exactly what you'll need to do. Not a no-work easy A, but a do-the-work definite A. Decided to take HIS 1510 even though only 2 credits count.

Great professor! Just had her for the first summer term. She is very organized and keeps things simple. No busy work, but assignments that help understand material. The class is a 4 hour class and she breaks it up with lecture and assignments to make it go by faster. If you do the work you will get a good grade.

Professor Emanoil is one of the greatest teachers anybody can have. Her passion for the subject inspired even the most uninterested classmates. Simply reading chapters and note taking will get you a good grade

I go to school in Chicago now, but after I finished her class, I wanted to pack her up and bring her with me. She was the most incredible professor I've ever had and made the subject so much more interesting to me. I would go back to OCC just to take her class again.

Dr.Emanoil is the teacher everyone wants for history. You have a reading guide with questions to look for and the page given. All you do is your homework and if you do it the quizes are multiple choice and very easy. The test have everything you need to know. The study guide has everything needed on test. Very friendly and understanding!

Very nice. Very clear. Dr. Emanoil had wonderful lectures that always keep you interested in what she's saying. Notes from her lectures are necessary for the exams therefore attendance is necessary, but the way the exams are set up it's okay if you miss a class or two. Overall, amazing professor. Can't wait to take her other history class.

Does a great job making the class interesting with videos and other modern techniques. Knows the subject and enjoys discussing it, not just lecturing about it. Work is not easy but its not very difficult either. Does do a lot of "group work", I don't really like but some do. She gives study guides for exams that were always a big help.

Even though her classes are not mandatory I highly suggest attending every class,if you encounter any problem during she is really helpful to find the best solution for you. Test are kind of hard and suggest to study at least 4 to 5 hours per exam see will correct your vocab so you are studying the right terms. Overall she the best history teacher.

This class has an INSANE amount of work. RIDICULOUS. She is a fairly easy grader as long as you have the right concepts down- if you don't- she'll correct you. Expect to spend an EASY 15+ hours of work for an A in the class. CHEMISTRY was easier than this class... although I learned a lot and she is a very helpful and nice instructor.

I would definitely aim to take Valerie's History class on campus instead of online. I had her lecture class & she makes it fun! She's sarcastic & funny helps your memory. She gives you a study sheet a week or 2 before the exam which is not only helpful, but a great tool when it comes to teaching! :)

She is awesome! History was always my worst subject in high school, but because of her I loved it and ended up taking 2 of her classes! She's very helpful and actually wants to see you succeed!

Very awesome happy teacher. She makes it all interesting rather than a dry "memorize this" method of teaching. I'm taking the other classes that she offers too. and you DO have to buy both the books because you have to do pre-reading for a weekly quiz that isn't hard at all. It's just to help make students familiar with the material.

Dr. Valerie Emanoil is a great History instructor! I learned so much from her class! It may seem like the material is pointless, but our history is not unimportant. I enjoyed learning about something that happened ages ago. Very interesting material. Don't lose interest, she will definitely talk your ear off, but luckily her voice isn't awful lol

Professor Emanoil is a phenomenal teacher. Her lectures are very engaging and she allows group discussion. There are quizzes every week based on the textbook and three or four major tests based on the lectures and text. If you're willing to put in the work, this class will be very rewarding. She made this class very fun and thought-provoking.

Dr. Emanoil is one of the fines educators I have met. I know attend a University who's faculty and staff have yet to meet the standards she has set as a professor. She is professional and an expert in her field. The expectations for her class are very clear; you'll have to apply yourself but will not be dissapointed. She's fantastic!

She is honestly just a really great teacher. A 4 hour history class could be brutal but she makes the infor interesting & shes funny. You have to come to the begining of the class because there are short quizes at the start of each class but they are easy if you do the readings, which are never too long & she gives a reading guide.

Probably the finest professor I had, and that's including when I transferred to UMich. Lectures are long but its pretty easy to do well in this class. She is willing to help and she tries to engage everyone. She makes history fun. Definitely worth it as I did both classes.

I would recommend to take this class to anyone! Seriously she is for sure the best professor I have had! There is reading to do for the class but it is for helpful to do, it's not busy work that won't be useful. She is a super funny professor but she is also VERY caring, helpful, and understanding!

great class, read the book and you wont fail

If you're looking to learn a little something that lasts in your mind, and actually maybe even enjoy attending, definitely a must-take. Lectures are given in clear, down-to-earth explanations. Fair grader. A little effort goes a long way. She'll make it interesting enough. Prepare to read, but she'll help you understand.

Emanoil is one of my favorite professors. She is funny, her lectures are easy to listen to and follow along with, and she wants you to pass. She gives you VERY CLEAR study guides for each of the exams, and she makes everything very easy to understand. If you do the reading, take notes, and study the material on her study guide then you will pass!

Took the online class, and as other reviews note, it was ludicrous amount of work, but you do learn from it. The work was pretty easy, and as long as you form complete sentences you should be fine. Got 100% on everything. Expect: hour+ long video lectures, multiple reading excerpts, and several writing assignments/papers every week.

Dr. Emanoil is fantastic! She keeps her lectures very interesting. I didn't even notice the class was 4 hours. You have to keep up with the reading, and there are reading quizzes every class, but she gives a specific reading guide and questions to help you. If you do the reading, you'll ace every quiz. I learned a lot and really enjoyed it.

loved her for his1520, she's super smart and her lectures are interesting. as long as you show up and listen and study a bit you'll be fine. her tests are mostly written essays but as long as you take a little time to study they're easy.

I had her last semester and she was amazing. She is clear with her lectures, she gets down to the point. she teaches you what's imported and mostly what's gonna be on the quizzes and exam. she gives you a guide for the quizzes that are so helpful, you have one once a week. The classes isn't boring she has a great sense of humor and can relate in many ways. There are no wrong answers or dumb questions so don't be afraid to answer because she will explain it to you. The more you ask the more you learn. She is one of my favorite teachers. She makes history fun and interesting. Shows some movies and videos as well. I use to hate history classes but now that I have the perfect teacher it's all different. I hope this helps :)

I took her class for two semesters and will be returning for a third with her. I love how she mixes up her lectures with videos, group work, and readings so it's not 4 straight hours of lecture. Her exams are easy and she's a flexible grader if you know the material. My favorite teacher of all time. Because of her I found my major in history.

She has been the best professor I have ever taken, she is so nice and care about her students. the class isn't hard if you read the text. She always gives outlines, and always prepares you for the exam.

She's very thorough in her lectures, and she would always give us outlines when we started notes on a new chapter, so it was easy to follow along. She also tells you before an exam how it's going to be set up, so even though it's a long test, you usually know what topics will be on it, so you only have to study what you need to. Very kind!

She gives amazing lessons

I thought that professor Emanoil was very good. This was my first time taking a history class where I actually felt like I learned something. I even found myself being interested in the subject, and I'm usually not. She has very interesting lectures, and is very clear about her expectations, and grading criteria.

I LOVED this class because she taught it with such ease. I love history to begin with but this class was super easy and interesting. You do have to read the books, but even then they can be easily found in the library and her notes and power points were a great help. She's very understanding about schedules and will help if you need her.

She is the sweetest professor I have ever met. really cares about her students and making her lectures effective and fun. Book quizzes every week but they were 15 questions and did not try to trick you. Exams are also super simple but theres an essay. Overall best history teacher and you should have an easy time passing, even acing the class!

Very nice, answers questions clearly, and is willing to help you succeed in her class. For every class you will have to read chapter (you will be given a reading guide to go along) and have a quiz next class. She explains how the exams are structured. No surprises. (I took her 1510 Summer class)

Love this prof. She gives you everything you need to succeed. Do the notes and pass the quizzes that are given every week. Notes aren't mandatory but it's easier to keep up with them so you know what to write for your exam essays. In-class assignments are super easy. Study a lot and you'll do great. I love Dr. Emanoil and her class! Her lectures are informative and engaging, her grading criteria is clear and thorough, and she even knew everyone's name by the second week, which is incredible. Excellent professor. Emanoil was very clear in her assignments and expectations, as well as liberal in their grading. She answered questions clearly and sent reminders about work due, just in case you'd forget. Obviously, things weren't easy due to COVID, but she made the entire experience easy and rewarding.

I took World Civ to Big of Modern Era online and it was a breeze, very interesting course material and super easy to pass. Every week you read a chapter, take a few small quizzes, complete a discussion and an assignment, and it takes about three hours at most. The professor gives great feedback, is not a harsh grader, and seems to enjoy teaching.

I had this professor Summer 2020 for World Civ to Big of Modern Era. She was amazing!! Very clear on what she expects and material is easy to digest. Weekly readings with assignments to go along with it. She responded quickly to emails and was always willing to help.

Loved taking her 7.5week class! Homework is fairly easy, you are given many chances to get the correct answer. She also assigns roughly 2 short essays a week and I found them to be straight forward and not hard. Final is a short essay (3 paragraphs). Do yourself a favor and take her course! 7.5 weeks was quick but she made it easy for me! FYI no EC

Her 8-week class weekly assignments consisted of reading textbook chapters, taking short online quizzes, 2 writing assignments, and a discussion post. There were no tests and the final was a writing assignment. She had clear grading criteria and was an easy grader. As long as you complete the assignments, you'll be able to recive an A.

Dr. Emanoil is a wonderful professor. I took 1510 and 1520 with her. Each week there's reading, a quiz with multiple attempts, a discussion, and an assignment; no midterm or exams, the final was a three paragraph essay. The coursework was fairly time-consuming, but she's an easy grader. I would definitely take her again if I needed to!

Professor Emanoil is a very fun professor and gives out lots of interesting homework that talks about cultures, time periods, and inportant people. The class covers a vast overview of history and makes you delve into history in China, Europe, America, and India. Very fun and a nice class to take

Prof Emanoil is a caring instructor who makes the coursework manageable. With weekly readings, quizzes, and assignments, the workload is consistent but fair. unstuckstudy and the free textbook were great study aids. I would take this class again.

I read a previous review that said she doesnt accept late homework. NOT TRUE. She gave me a week to turn in an assignment late with no late deductions. Wonderful professor. Wonderful feedback. Quick responses. Lots of homework but it is easy if you do the reading. TAKE THIS CLASS. So interesting and lots of awesome sources! Favorite class.
