Teaching the Labotory is very fun, a nice professor, very patient. Attention: Do not talking for each other during the labortory.
Let me just say i love ms foster. she is a new teacher and is still learning the ropes but shes one of the few teachers ive found whose eager to help. shes not hard but shes not easy. if you truely want to learn take her class because it will help prepare you for 1a
She is a very nice teacher and goes out of her way to help students. She even posts her lectures online. Her tests are a little difficult, but if you attend class and study you will get a good grade. Don't bother buying the textbook, just buy the lab manual.
Good intro class for Bio majors/premed students. Not to mention her class is a joke if you're interested in human biology. Covers 99% of test/quiz materials in class. Great! Tests are little bittle hard, you should study dilligent and you will be sure to recieve a good grade!
She is a great teacher. She is encouraging, helpful, and really tries to make sure that everyone understands what she is teaching. For anatomy she lectured right from the book and taught her material well.
She's fairly good at explaining things, and you can download stuff online, but she wants you to know a lot more than she writes down. The weekly lab quizzes are pretty difficult and the tests for both the lab and the lecture are, I feel, very unfair. If you have to take this class, don't take anything else that will actually require your attention.
I think General Biology is one of classes that everyone should consider taking. I feel like I have gained a lot of knowledge through Prof Foster. She seems like a hard teacher but she is very helpful, clear and just amazing! Your grades definitely reflects on how much effort you put in studying. You will get a lot out of this class.
Shes young, pretty,& articulate. Friendly and helpful during office hours. The course material is pretty easy. Don't need to take notes, everything is posted online. She might not know the answer to every question, but most were lame and stuff we didn't need to know
Buying the book is a waste of money! She gives such great lectures w/slides and basically regurgitates them. The slides were so well organized that I was able 2 use them for other classes as background informaiton. A very nice lady. She is approachable which is a plus. I recommend taking her.
she's loony and can be funny when she wants to when she cracks inappropriate jokes. she loves what she teaches so she gets excited and goes fast. you need to read the material and be able to scribble down notes fast during her lectures. the lectures are all over the place, my class would see entire topics that weren't in our outline...
There are 3/4 projects due & they're supposed to help students learn in an interactive & fun way; however, the projects take up time where it's better spent studying. I was more concerned about project deadlines as opposed to understanding the material. I spent a lot of time 4 this class my other classes suffered not b/c I don't try.
Theres 4 exams that arent the easiest, but theyre curved. The 3 take home quizzes and participation points are easy credit. Also, 1 project with 4 different options (pretty easy). All lectures are online, so you dont have to worry about missing lecture. She nice and looks like a metal head. I recommend, but do study for exams.
prof. foster is one of the best teachers at pcc. shes also quite beautiful. if you're reading this, foster, i love you. will you marry me? take her. it's a fair class.
Beware of spending LOTS of time on her lab reports. do not skip out on any labs. She is very helpful if you go to her office hours. Study lab reports and lecture notes very carefully for exams and do not be afraid to ask questions if you are confused. Attendance is mandatory.
She is easily the best teacher I've had at PCC. Her tests are fair (not too easy, not too hard) and she is extremely good at getting you to understand the material. Awesome!
Great Professor. Good looking too. Overall the class is an easy B. That means if you take the time and effort which I wish I did you can get an A. Very helpful. She wants you to go to her office hours. Don't miss any lecture or lab days or it will bite you later on. Tests are fair. My only complaint: the lab notebook.
Good professor, but if you hate TurnItIn.com, then don't take this class. She explains everything clearly and has a great personality, but just hate the project part, in which any essays require submission to TurnItIn.com.
Her lectures are very clear, and her tests contain exactly what's in the lectures. Study the lecture notes and you'll be fine. She's very approachable for any questions, so go to her office hours. My only complaint are that her labs are WAY too much work. Be prepared to do alot of coloring and drawing. All in all though, she's really cool.
she is really a great teacher. easily, the best ive had at pcc. which lets face it, is full of stupid teachers. she really gets you to understand what she is teaching and only goes over important information and not just the book. shes really funny. she is all and all, a great teacher.
she is a very good professor,very very helpful&wants to help u.u can learn a lot from her,but she is hard.if u can work hard,it's no problem to get an A.if u r lazy,don't take her class,but u can't learn a lot.for my major,taking her class is extremely helpful,I learned so much.very helpful professor,if u want to learn,take her,no regret at all
Dr. V... before her class i hate biology and i even thought i was going fail this class... but no she makes her class soo interesting i was never absent and all her classes were interesting and she is a cool teacher... really helpful maybe kinda hard on her test just a lit advice if is possible record her classes, her test is on everythin she says
Dr. Foster is amazing! Lectures are fun, exams aren't too bad, but lab is a bit overwhelming, especially if you've never had any form of bio labs before. Exams are based on lecture, so the book isn't really the necessary. She's really helpful and always willing to help you out.
She gives a lot of work to do, 4 research papers, 2 presentations, sketch books, field trips... etc, but it really isn't that bad, plus her lectures are awesome. Tests are neither hard nor easy, just study the power point slides. Easy B for her class. Recommend her.
very critical, sarcastic. will make fun of students for not knowing answers. highly disorganized and rewrites the syllabus every week. makes you jump through hoops for information that normal teachers would simply give you.. do not take class unless you like barking like a seal.
she cool, the class is not too hard, but require a lot of study. Tests are kind of hard, if not paying attention in class. HAte the teaching activities though.
This class killed lots of us! Because of the research paper, presentations, posters,exams...etc, we literally had no time for other classes so we had to drop those classes. Y didn't we drop bio then? Good question. Bcuz we went throught TOO MUCH to do that!Think twice if you're takin this class with other science classes.
the exams were extremely hard. if you are ONLY taking this class in long term semester, then you'd be fine because you have to study EVERYDAY for this class. Bio major ppl might not find her helpful.
I think what you put in this class is what you will get out of it. This class DOES help bio major ppl prepare for university level if your planning to transfer! but if you just want to take it to fulfill igetc, i dont recommend it. dr. foster is extremely helpful when you come to her office hours for help. studying for exams can be overwhelming.
its not fair she makes her class so much harder than di fioris that a B in her class is equivilant to an A in difuiris class. and difuiri curves too. its really not fair, must work harder to get the same grade as other students. dont recommend if taking other hard math or science classes.
she gives out F's like party favors, was on academic prob for giving out too many. no joke :)
okay fine dont agree with my comments, but i am not the only person that thinks so. i have never heard anyone say 'take ms.foster she is the best'. there is a reason why difuiris class closes and there are still 25 seats left in her class. only people that like her are weirdos like her so
Take Dr. Foster! She's the best!! She gives a lot of work but you will definitely learn a lot. I sure did! Just like from a previous comment, what you put in this class is what you will get out of it.
Dr. Foster is a cool person, but her class is pretty tough. Its not an easy A nor is it an easy B. You gotta work hard for your grade in this class, and you should know that before taking her. Sometimes her labs and assignments could be a little unclear, but take the time to visit her during office hours. IT IS VERY VERY USEFUL.
Dr. Foster is not easy but it is equivalent to a university atmosphere so get over it. Put in the work and youll get the grade. Shes very helpful if you appoach her and ask questions. She doesnt explain everything crystal clear because she wants you to use some critical thinking skills! Overall loved the class, learned alot. Shes awesome!
Class is HARD. there's no getting around that. I took her for bio 11 before and she's completely different in 1A. The workload as well as the expected out of class work goes up. But you do learn a lot. Very approachable and she will help point you in the right direction if you ask. She just expects you to be an adult and find answers on your own!
you guys are in college and you're whining about putting effort into getting a good grade? shes not a bad teacher she just wants you to think and study. she is so helpful at her office hours. totally prepares you for university level classes
Highly recommended. Dr. Foster is one of the best professors I have ever taken. Her lectures are concise and her grading is fair. She is down-to-earth and very intelligent and likes it when students participate and ask questions. Make sure you attend all lectures and don't be late for class, Dr. Foster will know everyone's name by the 3rd week.
If you're not that into science, but you need to fulfill a lab requirement, take this class! She is so chill and the work load is totally doable. She will help you out if you want the help, otherwise why should she care? I learned SO much and have a great understanding of general animal biology, which means a lot as science is difficult for me
fosters a walking talking contradiction. as fake as a adolescent teen in a high school popularity contest, if you see her interact with different people in different settings and are not a daft puppet you will notice.
Awesome teacher, has a good sense of humor, is smart, pretty, and nice (but sometimes can be moody). Class is difficult but if you work for an A you will get it. Important to ask what she is expecting and check in regularly with progress on projects to see if you are in the right direction. Great class! Compared to Prof. DiFiori she is more organiz
She's smart, helpful and funny. I highly recommended taking her class. There is a lot of work, but work out and don't be afraid to ask for help and you will be fine. You will learn a lot and it will prepare you for university styled classes. Remember children, you're in college now so you should expect a challenge.
I'm going to set the record straight. She's a good professor, but extremely difficult! You better hit the ground running if you decide to take her because once you're left behind, you're finished. Life is too short to put so much stress in one class, especially an intro. My advise, avoid her. You will save yourself so much stress!
She is a very enthusiastic teacher and was personally an easy A! I added her after I dropeed from Di-Fiori's class as it was 2x the workload!!
While Dr. Foster's class was definitely harder than expected, she is an extremely passionate and intelligent professor. She tries to make Biology as interesting and relevant as possible for those of us who aren't as interested in it. There's no need for all the repetitive complaints about how hard she is, she just expects you to use your brain.
She really knows her subject, but her classes and exams are extremely hard. So, if you are just like me and hate biology, don't take her. I studied everyday, I did all the quizzes, all work, everything and got a B- in her class.
I think her class would be top-notch if she was clearer. She tends to be very vague and confusing in what she expects out of you. She's a great lecturer but the class is project-based and her lectures aren't very useful for the projects; expect to be pretty lost in terms of what you should be doing. I don't suggest her unless you're a masochist...
impossible to a get an A. Extremely hard to get a B & C just looks terrible on your transcripts if your looking to go to grad/medical school. she makes the easiest topics the hardest things ever. So time consuming, its ridiculous. This class made me stress out like crazy. if i were you i would wait, save yourself the stress and choose someone else.
I gotta say,as hard as it could be, her class is so far the one that i learned the most from.her class is project based, which stressed me out like hell but i truly appreciate the overall problem solving skills that i've gained as a person along with all the academic knowledge i learned as a student.it was a nightmare but it's worth it.i got an A
Same thing as the comment below, I did learn a lot after all from her class, and ended up an A. It is totally possible to get an A if you study in a way like a college student should be..Overall I had a lot of fun experiences in her class.
What's more harder than a rock? Her class! If you want an A in her class, then just register for her class only! She's going to make you take extremely lots of time working on projects.
Not helpful at all esp if she doesnt like your class, YES she has favorites and she makes it known. Dont take her unless you have to because you will be hating your life for 16 weeks.
avoid this class as much as possible.
the class is hard, there is a lot of work involved. don't try to take this class with too many other high level classes, especially if you have a job. it's difficult, but it's possible to succeed. the field work is fun if you don't mind going out of the class environment. also, as an important side note, she is extremely hot. painfully beautiful.
Ok, so here's the thing, this woman has a bad rap for being too hard or mean but it's just NOT true! She's by far one of the best! Her class IS unorthodox I'll say that much and it does take some getting used to. But if you put your mind to it you'll pass with flying colors! She's a wonderful professor and puts a lot of time into her class!
If you do the work then you'll do fine. This class does take quite a bit of mental effort, but she's very friendly and really understands her topic. It's very hands on, so if you want to know if this is the major you want to be in, then definitely take the class.
Dr. Foster is the ish. If you plan to be someone who puts the work in, you will get the material crystal clear. She really loves what she does.
Prof.Foster is a really nice person, but her class is intense and will definitely stress you out! I had people in my class crying and dropping receiving W's. It's definitely not an easy A, B, or C class. If you want to go to med school, don't bother because it's rare to receive an A.
She is very knowledgeable but she thinks everybody is going to biology major. Her class is very difficult. Most of the people in my class got a C. Her tests are very hard. If you are taking bio 11 only because you have to take a science class, please don't take her, you'll regret for the rest of your life.
Class was HARD. That said, she's one hell of a caring instructor. You will become a better student with her help. Recommended for the hardworker
Poor teacher.
Horrible professor!!!!!! She sets all of her students up for failure.. No joke. Incredibly hard passing. I have learned nothing. When I mean nothing , I mean nothing related to bio. Not sure why she is even rated above a 1.0.... she advises all of the students not to drop... I have no idea why... I guess she enjoys passing out F's...
Dr. Foster is a hard Biology professor at PCC. If you are serious and very good in bio, you can take her. Not recommended for students who do not like Bio. Her class is the most hardest one I have taken at PCC. If you are not able to endure her harshness, you will fail. Her class will overwhelm you. But, you will feel prepared if you passed.
if you take her, you will be making a mistake
WARNING: Do not take this class, you will regret it!!! Like most of the student in this class, we came in loving biology but came out really hating or disliking it. I didn't want to believe what other people below me said, but I really do agree with them and that she's a really bad teacher. Avoid at all cost!!!
She is not very helpful, and if you dont understand something right away, she'll make you feel dumb. She can be very rude as well. She is not the worst professor, but if you have any other options, I'd go with that. All her tests are short answer, and she grades very harshly and barely gives any partial credit. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Terrible teacher do not take her class
She is a hard a professor because her tests and the whole class is critical thinking based. She requires you to really understand everything and not just memorise. Which is a good thing for your future but not so good for your grades.. That said, I think she's the best bio professor at PCC and the most knowledgeable and creative.
Teacher is not helpful at all, gives quizzes before you even review the material, lots of dumb group projects and assignments that are pointless and serve to waste time so the teacher does not have to lecture or work to help the class understand the material at all. She doesnt elaborate on what she expects, then your grade suffers because of it.
She never really gave lecture. A lot of group projects. Exams were all essay questions which required critical thinking. The HARDEST class ever.
Took her 6 week hybrid bio class and she is so much fun! Lots of group projects, so make sure you find a good pack early on in the class. Dr Foster is so approachable and beyond willing to help. Directions are always so clear, she definitely wants you to pass the class! Do the work, follow her directions, and you will get an A. Thanks Dr Foster!
She is one of the best professors I've taken at PCC. You definitely have to work hard for your grade, but it is almost impossible to fail. The class exams are short answers, so you must understand the material. Also, you will constantly be working with a group. She may seem intimidating, but she is always happy to help. I learned a lot. Take her!
This professor makes a ridiculous amount of information accessible with class projects and grades fair/easy. She answers email and there is field work as research project where you investigate the diversity of life and the complexity of ecology.
Doesn't lecture much, so prepare to do a lot of self learning. Class time consists mainly of working with classmates on group projects which make up a bulk of the class. Make sure you're able to put aside time outside of this class to make trips to the field for projects/assignments. Overall nice professor, not sure I would take her again though.
This class depends on group projects. She doesn't lecture much but if you pay attention in class, it's pretty much an easy A. Just make sure you know the concepts. Her final was based on the concept quizzes. Make sure your answer is detailed, she is a little picky. Dr. Foster is very understanding, caring, and kind, just talk to her if you have Qs.
Dr. Foster is a kind and understanding person. She really wants everyone to succeed and shows it through her positive attitude and demeanor in class. The class revolves around big group projects and concept quizzes, with the final being the only exam. You might get lost but you HAVE to ask questions. She will guide you through everything.
Dr. Foster is a fair grader and works with students. You do have to put in some effort, but it is mainly toward group projects. Fewer tests though, which I really really prefer!
There are going to be mostly group projects, self tech and some extra time outside of class.
Majority of her grading is focused on group projects and can get very nitpicky with smaller assignments. If you prefer to work alone, you might have a hard time. She's a nice person, but as a professor, she isn't really good. Would not recommend.
Doesnt teach anything. Really isnt going to help me in the future. Avoid.
Dr. Foster is so great! She is very helpful if you ask her for any assistance, and she gives really good feedback. A very generous grader (I personally would have given my group a on our research paper, and she gave us a 97%!). The group projects are a pain, but thats a department thing. Also, she is so funny, nice and supportive. I loved her!
I had a great experience in professor Foster's class. I am not a good test taker because I get nervous so I appreciated the group projects and other assignments I could work on at home. I was lucky and most of my group members did their fair share of work. Only 1 person slacked a little and we were able to discuss it with the professor so she knew.
Class is unorganized aside from the class being split up into the 3 SLO's. No clear grading criteria. Seems picky on things not emphasized enough. Class emphasizes on team projects and at times strays away from tough STEM topics that should probably be lectured and worked on a bit more. I am pre-med, I would avoid her class if prepping for MCAT
Her assignments are not hard. Professor gets too picky on details and that is accentuated in the concept checks. She gets really upset if you ask questions. No real takeaway from the class as it lacked substance and actual teaching by professor. I guess I learned patience. Some just cant teach.
Professor Foster is great. The class wasn't traditionally structured or lecture heavy, but focused on project based learning. When she did lecture, her lectures were very interesting. Expectations were clear, and she made herself available to us to address any questions or concerns. Highly recommend.
I took Professor Valerie Winter 2019. Even though winter schedules are pretty hectic I never once felt overwhelmed with work or assignments. Lectures are well paced and there is a lot of group activity which some may or may not enjoy that. I personally thought it breaks up the rhythm in a good way. Labs were interesting and fun. Highly recommended!
I took this class during the winter, so there's bound to be more homework. It wasn't so bad that it overwhelmed me, just check your stuff daily and you should be able to keep up. I will say that she grades a little bit heavy, or maybe my work just isn't as up to standard? Same difference. Pretty nice professor, easy to follow and brings good vibes.
Lots of homework, but you should be able to manage. I took Professor Foster for Winter 2020, and I managed just fine (and I am a person with terrible time management). Lots of group work, and I encourage you to take her if you want to improve your skills as a leader & student.
Professor Foster really helped me become a better student and scientist. The class is not easy in spite of who you take it with but during the pandemic, in an online format, Professor Foster made the class material still interactive, informative, and fun to go through. You won't regret taking her!
I took this class during the Covid pandemic, so it shifted to online only. Dr. Foster was very supportive and made herself easily accessible for any of her students needs. You'll learn a lot of fascinating things in this class and despite it being online due to Covid, it normally consists of a lot of hands on experience, which I find awesome!
Avoid taking her and save yourself lots of headaches. She does not teach and the workload is insane. You need to read lots of papers and research lots of studies for only few points that she hardly gives full points. She made me feel like working for under minimum wage ugh. Online group projects are worse. If you really want to learn dont take her
Over half the class is self-learning but the sections she stepped in were interesting. That being said, most of the class is group work and you finding articles. She replies very fast if you have questions. Rubrics aren't clear sometimes. She grades harshly on some assignments but you can save your grade through participation.
Since this class was set virtually, the traditional lab time was converted to online ones. The professor did her best to make it interactive as possible as well as assigning multiple group projects. There was a lot of reading involved, but these skills came in handy if you are able to push through the short answer final.
Professor Foster is a great choice for this course. This class is not easy in general but she does her best and works with her students. You are expected to work and I do not recommend waiting last min to do hw. Go through her modules and offices hours and you will get the grade you deserve! No exams either. She is a very educated prof, ask Q's!!
Professor Foster is by far one of the best professors I've encountered at PCC! Despite the distance learning, she does her best to ensure her material is both interesting and engaging. She genuinely cares about the success of her students. If you need to take Bio, take Foster!!
Literally expected so much out of the class for no reason. Had to write research papers with limited data. Wanted us to go out and take pictures of 20 different types of trees during wildfires and COVID. Asked us to request group members and didn't even honor that. Tried to help us but her curriculum was bad. Worst class I have EVER experienced.
all exam questions were given since first day of class(don't expect exams to save your grade. They are worth as same as the check-in points). Other than that, TOO MANY ASSIGNMENTS!!! Some of the assignments were not listed in the Grades tab. 250 words for exam ?s were okay but 2-3 pages for a few of the research papers were too much.
She is the sweetest professors you will ever meet but her class was overwhelming for me. If you are a person who likes lectures then you won't enjoy the class but if you like to read and do assignments you will love it. There is a lot of work but she grades very easy on them if she sees that you tried your best. TALK to her she is understanding!
I took this during the winter and it was very fast paced. Even so, I truly enjoyed it. She is very caring and accessible outside of class and gives great feedback. She answered all of my questions during her office hours ( even the silly ones (: ) She goes above and beyond to inspire us to learn more about biology, and ourselves as a person.
I took this class during Spring 2021 with 2 other science class. Lectures were easy to understand. All assignments given were helpful with answering the final exam questions. All final exam questions were given ahead at the beginning of the semester. She is always on zoom for help during office hours and her comments are very clear and helpful.
The class was perfectly organized for online and no lecture. The assignments were interactive and fun! Not just a bunch of read this, write a paper. She found a lot of cool outside short videos to watch to teach or build on the concepts. I loved it!! The final was really hard, but still worth taking this class again!
It's very terrible by taking this class in short term, extremely difficult assignments based on her grading rubric. Having hw every day also needs to read a lot of research papers. 3 projects + 1 final exam in 6 weeks, It's sounds impossible. suggest taking her class in long term, otherwise prepare to read long page articles per day.
Honestly its a tough class for it being during a short 6 weeks. You honestly get the grade you deserve depending on how much effort and time you put towards the material. If you do the work and everything required you will pass. You have to work really hard for an A. In all honestly we are giving tools to help us strive on to better things.
Look. You won't get an A unless you actually know a thing or two about biology, especially evolution. That said, easy B. Do you think you can critically thinking or are you just a copypasta machine? The professor can give you clues but you need to figure it out. Her assignments were fun and comprehensive. Don't take life so seriously and enjoy it.
Professor Foster has a unique class that isn't like other bio classes. She likes to give you the helm of the hands-on experience with labs & field work. You also get the final exam questions on the first day of class, so make sure to work through ALL of them as you proceed through the course. 3 big projects and 1 final, give them your all! :)
Way too many research papers and essays to read. She also had us write an essay every week which was so unnecessary for a bio class. No tests, though, which is definitely a plus. Lots of group work.
This class is very unique in the sense it will be more hands-on work and fieldwork that will help you do well in this class. She is a good teacher and is clear in what she wants. Take her but you need to do the work.
Lots of assignments and multi-part labs. Final project was a paper that required 5 species and 3 sections each. Very nitpicky when it comes to grading assignments. Doesn't respond fast enough to emails. Required us to download multiple apps that we only used once. Has a specific word count for assignments.
Prof Foster is great. Like another review stated, 10B with her is an easy B. Final is based on the SLO's so make sure you're writing those prompts as the semester progresses (you will regret it if you don't, it's copy and paste). I almost failed the class until she sat down with me and made a plan to pass. Finished with a B. Fairly easy class!
In grand scheme of things class isn't too difficult, although homework load always feels like a lot. Would recommend working under 15 hrs a week (summer session wise); profs pretty nice + lenient + willing to explain things again, although gets a bit passive aggressive when she feels she's repeating something
The professor was within reach when I needed to double check the requirements for the 2 major assignments. As a non-biology major this course was definitely worth my time. She structures class in a hands on way of learning biology, with a few assignments per week. The labs definitely felt like I was doing biology rather than just doing busy work.
I always struggle w/ academic subjects but she made it fun and more achievable than I could have ever imagined. I was intimidated at first & often struggled but she'd do everything to help. Foster really cares for her students & is one of the most considerate teachers I've ever had. As long as you follow directions & keep up with work, you'll pass.
At first I was not a fan of the class, but over time I've grown to enjoy it. Prof is passive-aggressive which can be discouraging to some, yet she does care & expects you to put in lots of effort for her class. Have good time-management and tough skin, then you will be okay. She's picky and tough w/ grading but I began to appreciate those standards
Prof Foster had the asynchronous lectures clear and easy to make notes of. Quizzes and assignments varied in length and were often research based. Time management is important, as there were 2 big projects with a minimum word count and lots of research. I talked with her outside of class and she helped me with improving my grade.
Dr. Foster is a wonderful instructor. She was very clear with her grading, which was standards based. This was my first class where grades were standard based and I prefer it so much more. Dr. Foster gives you a chance to improve by allowing for reassessments on any standard. If you needed help with anything, she was always open to help.
You have to understand all the materials and this might be challenging to keep up if you are also taking other classes that you need to invest a lot of your time with. You do can retake exams but you still have to keep up with the pace of the new materials which can be heavy. For Standard based grading, in person lecture might be better than online
Take another professor or wait another semester if you can. There is a lot of information and not a lot of guidance on what to focus on. Lack of guidance caused many students to perform poorly on exams. When the professor asked how she could improve, she became passive aggressive to feedback. Get ready to learn everything yourself.
DON'T TAKE HER, she has changed her entire grading method. Only assessments and lab assessments count toward your overall grade. Lack of guidance, and vague instructions. Blames students for failing to prioritize her class. She tests you on multiple standards for each assessment (heavy material), and her canvas is disorganized. Don't risk it guys.
I was not a fan of the class structure. She put way too much material and only graded assessments, which had vague criteria. She is very nice, but needs to improve on how to use class time or how much material she wants students to know. Definitely consider other options if you can.
No Extra Credit Lots of tests Very Picky
Very vague, tests are really hard, class has a weird grading structure
Even though she allows retakes (not the same exact questions) it's not worth restudying and reteaching yourself the material. Her exams are out of 4 points and easily make ur grade drop multiple letter grades. If you're taking it with other classes, you'll be drained out by the end of this class with zero knowledge taken.
While the material can be challenging, Professor Foster cares and provides support. The grading structure takes adjustment, but regular attendance, a textbook, and tools like unstuckstudy can help you succeed. Be prepared to put in the effort, and you may grow to appreciate the high standards.
Professor Foster is one of the most supportive and caring professors I've had. She explains concepts clearly, gives detailed feedback, and provides study guides that outline exactly what to learn for assessments. Her tests are fair and reflect the material taught. If you put in effort, she'll match it—she genuinely wants her students to succeed.
This professor only bases your grade off of exams and one project where she gives you full credit and one project where it will either change your grade completely or not do anything at all. Her lecture sides lacks a lot of information and she expects us to know it for her exam. Overall not a good professor if you are taking other classes.
Although she does not require a textbook, her online lectures will not help you study on exams. There are some slides where she doesn't upload but includes on the exam. So pay attention and remember all the activities you do in class. She only grades by exams and two individual projects. She will allow 1 or 2 retakes but no extra credit.
Teacher is very nice and helps a lot. Took her during winter session and she was very easy to reach. I messaged her A LOT and she always replied within 1/2 days. We had 6 exams and with about 3 "topics" each but you can also retake a "topic" to get a better grade instead of retaking the whole test. We also had lab practicals. Great class overall :)
Dr. Foster is a great professor, the class is lecture heavy and exams are based on the lectures, and the activities/labs done in class. Grades fairly and makes sure everybody understands, so ask questions! Her lectures do go by pretty fast (I had her for winter session), but still manageable if you pay attention and enjoy learning the material. :))
Professor Foster was one of the most exhausting professors to have. Her assignments were worth 0 points and we were only graded on our exams. Also, the material we covered in class barely had anything to do with the exams. She was passive aggressive when you didn't understand the material or asked for help.
shes actually very nice & caring professor. she makes sure u understand the material and u can ask her questions. she allows up to 2 retakes for the exams. there's 6 exams. theres no homework, only exams are graded. also a big project at the end too. u cant miss a single class or else u'll miss out on material. it was very hard 4 me.
she's chill! just make sure you study for exams & try to participate in class. i never felt embarrassed to ask questions or ask for help. it's clear she cares about the subject matter of the class.
Her teaching style was simple but helpful there was nothing too difficult about the class and that I was able to understand the material very well and was available to answer questions. As well as being available for all of her office hours.
Homework not graded but you're expected to do it. attendance not graded but you will be testing on things only verbally mentioned in class. Sometimes criteria was vague. But she chased down an actual bear for her students. And activities were so much fun. Lectures online, class activities every day. If you actually try, you'll learn and have fun!
Made me question my life choices. She reads off of old slides for 3 hours and gets an attitude if you ask questions. Graded only on exams which were back to back each week with two days of very little instruction. Her dismissive and aggressive attitude in person and emails was the last straw and led me to drop. Room smelled like dead fish 24/7
