A very kind and on-the-ball teacher. Gives students days off to work on group projects. Also gives very constructive criticism on papers and grades fairly.
There are about six papers you have to do but most are short and easy plus she gives you a lot of time to work on all of them. She is great at giving feed back take her or Jim Wood for any English class and you cant go wrong.
i hated her. Very rude, rich snobby mormon lady who talked more about spending money on her kids than about material. boring readings. waste of time. out of class projects also.

Great teacher. Hardest out of all the 111, 112, & 113 classes. She is really helpful and she makes the class fun.

Best teacher ever... keep it real Mrs. J.
Assumes that you know formatting to a 'T'. Hard on international and ESL students. Friendly at times, but she will mark and tear apart your paper if you aren't careful. Has a nice sense of humor, but the work is very demanding.
its a fun class, shes pretty nice to everyone!!
She is such an awesome teacher. I have known her for years, and really love being a student of hers. You can't be in her class and not expect to learn. Whether you want to or not you eventually will end up learning something.
Valerie is really funny and I thoroughly enjoyed her class! Be prepared for a heavy workload and constant writing! AND DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO WRITE YOUR PAPER!!! She critiques them thoroughly!! :)
I usually dislike English. This woman made me like it more than I ever had before.
Pretty good teacher. Good advice on papers, and i liked how the topics were pretty open and workable. Not too terribly hard
Great teacher who gives you lots of feedback.
I love Mrs. Jensen!!! She is the bwestest Prof EVER!!!! Very helpful and wants you to succeed! MRS> JENSEN IS THE BOMD!!!!!!
Very good teacher. She graded things pretty hard but it helped me improve my writing.
great
great teacher!
She is not a bad teacher at all. She tries to help you learn more and more. If you take her, please try you best. Give her everything you got. Yes, she is hard but she is funny.
Ms. Jensen teaches her class a bit like a hard high school class, but you still learn a lot and she is very nice.
She expects perfection. I lost a lot of sleep trying to get my work to be as good as possible to get a good grade. She assumes you have perfect grammar(no problem for me, but non-US students beware!). Ends the quarter with a group presentation where the whole group receives the same grade (ie, if one member wears jeans, the whole group gets docked)
She expects wonders from you when you turn in your paper. But she helps out a lot during the process and I must say she has improved my writing skills. She IS strict, but it's worth it.
She was the absolute best English teacher I have ever had. I enjoyed her lectures and assignments and i don't usually enjoy English. Take her class if you ever get the chance.
By far my favorite teacher ever! I never really liked Eniglish but she wants you to pass! I e-mailed her all the time asking questions, she pretty much writes your outline for you! And when she discusses future papers they sound hard but she will help you with anything! Best teacher ever! She will work around your schedule so you can get help.
Jensen is super nice and super super super helpful but i have never had a teacher expect so much from me. if you want a decent grade, at least two hours of homework a night. you'll be doing lots of useless reading and writing but she is a good teacher. tons of hand outs so get a binder. and if you're confused ask and she will explain.
My favorite teacher EVER! Pick a rare topic for your paper to get an A+!
Strict, but helpful, expects a lot of prior knowledge such as grammar, punctuation, mla format. Don't wait till last minute to get stuff done or you will loose a lot of sleep. Your research skills as well as work citing's will be perfected. If you turn in something that's incredibly wrong she will work with you to improve it.
Wonderful teacher! She makes me feel like I've really put a lot of effort into my papers, which makes me happy about turning in my papers. She guides us very well. As long as you pay attention in class, you'll get a good grade. Extra credit if you attend all her classes or 1 absence. Expect a lot of handouts, so get yourself a binder
She is so nice and grades easily. Take her. You wont regret :)
Super teacher :)
Good teacher. She's help you with your works a lot. But you do need to have good basic. Lots of handouts but works are in order. If you do your works on time, things will work out smoothly.
SHE IS AWESOME! GREAT TEACHER!
This is a super excellent teacher I have been studied with. She is really helpful and nice. Following her structure and paying attention in class, so u will definitely get high grade on your paper. Be sure that you have to finish assignments every week, don't procrastinate it unless you get low score.
She is an absolutely wonderful teacher! She makes it very clear exactly what you need to do to get a good grade in her class.
Amazing teacher!
Smokin hot teacher with a great sense of humor she is helpful and has a good teaching style.....very nice on the eyes to look at
As long as you do all your assignment, don't skip class you will be fine. She is awesome, you will learnt alot from her class. She will try to make her class seem hard in the beginning, but if you put in effort, you will eventually get a surprise grade, which is 4.0 =DDDD
take her class!!!
take her class!!! she is the best instuctor ever!!
One of the best teachers that I have ever had. She isnt the easiest teacher but she is very helpful on keeping everyone up to speed. If your looking for a fun class that you will actually learn something in and you want a good teacher to teach it then she is perfect. She really helps improve essay writing skills, and reading/analyzing literature.
Probably the easiest class ever, I think the entire quarter I stayed above 100% as did many others. Also the most fun I have had in a class. The teacher is one of my favorites, her other classes are harder but this one is not. The whole class is based around reading the books she picks out and then simply sharing what you thought about it in class
Jenson is so nice! She never hand out too many homework. participating in the class is what important. She also understand students so she never be strict to the students, especially the international students!Besides, Jenson usually give us high score in homework or examination if only you hold careful attitude. She is so nice, I like her!
Jensen is the best english 101 teacher. You need to take her class. She is smart and nice. What's important, you can get more information in her class and you don't need to spend much time. Thus, choose Jensen is your best choice.
I learned alot in her class. She was a very relatable teacher and gave great feedback. I would definetly take her class again. Lots of essays though and a large project at the end but mostly an easy class.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE HER! This teacher is by far one of my favorites of all time. She makes things interesting and helps if you don't understand. I would definitely take another class with her.
SHE IS FANTASTIC. She explains the topic clearly and will definitely help you if you ask her. She's a really fun person and sometimes she tells stories in class (but she isn't like those teachers who talk completely off topic). She gives homework but they aren't that much and she doesn't give you a bunch at once, more like bits here and there.
Valerie is one of my favorite teacher!!! very useful..her grade is very fair. if you don't understand/struggle in the class, you can see her and shell definitely help you kindly. very kind.. never boring in class because her class is so fun. she's so fun tho.
She gives out a lot of homework, don't take this class if you are a procrastinator. The work is hard but not impossible and if you get stumped she is always available to help you. I enjoyed this class she's funny and fun and likes to talk.
Her class is a must take! From the very first day I attended class it was never boring. She is never boring and is always willing to help people that need help. Even though the papers might be a bit tough and frustrating. She gives all the help you need!
avoid this class if you can. she is EXTREMLEY picky and makes you print out a ton of handouts. unless your a perfect student and NEVER PROCASTINATE you will be taking this class next semester. she is helpful but any all nighters will be failed at the drop of a hat.
She was AMAZING. I had her a few quarters ago, however my writing has improved immensely and essays have been a breeze since I took Valerie's class. Also, presentations are easy because we had a gnarly presentation in her class. She's tough but i highly recommend you challenge yourself with her because she helps you the entire way!!
Valerie is one of the best teachers i've ever had. Her class is HARD and she has a high expectation from her students. But if you follow her instructions and pay attention to her lectures, you will do just fine. You will have one big oral project at the end of the quarter but she will give you a lot of time to prepare it. Overall, awesome teacher!
Valerie is one of the nicest teachers I've ever had at GRCC. She's really understanding and she's great at explaining things. I took her social sciences class, and it involved a lot of writing and research, so it kept me busy and was kind of overwhelming at times, but she is still a great teacher.
Prof. Jensen is sooo confusing and she never replies to questions for emails. I would not recommend taking her classes especially her online classes.
I loved Valerie! She was very clear and helpful, and homework that fit the requirements got an automatic 100%. The only thing at all difficult were the essay tests, but they weren't all that bad. She was very interesting and kept the class moving. She's very fun, I looked forward to her class every day. :)
Throughout the quarter, this class drove me crazy. THE WORKLOAD IS VERY DENSE. She expects a lot from her students and is pretty strict, but she is an AMAZING teacher. Not a good class if you're looking for an easy A, but a great class if you're actually looking to learn. I got an A, but i made this class my number one priority and worked very hard
Hard Grader. lots of homework, and must follow the rule carefully.
Valerie Jensen was the worst experience I have ever had with a language arts teacher, gave me a 0 on my 10 page final paper because I had my citations in APA instead of MLA. Her instructions are gibberish- when asked for help she does not respond or replies with the same instructions as before. Be prepared to lose points for forgetting to dot an i.
This isn't a class that you can skate by in, but it will definitely improve your writing skills. Valerie completely understood that I had work outside of school, and was willing to work with me. She answered every question I had, and gave me more feedback than any other teacher I've ever had. You'll do well in the class if you put in the time.
She is a tough grader but she is very helpful and she give constructive feedback. Her homework is all related to the papers we have to do. Read an article, make an outline of the thesis and topic sentence, do research to find quotes, do a draft, peer review and final paper. She don't give unnecessary hw like many other english teacher does.
Amazing online class! Valerie was super clear on every assignment and always responded to questions I had within a day. I can honestly say, I learned skills I will use for the rest of my life. I was expecting the class to be easier. The essays are quite a lot of work and it is very tough to get a 4.0, but possible!
She is definitely my favourite teacher at GRC!!!! I am an international student, having English as my third language is not easy! But she is really encouraging, she gives 3 pages of comments for your essays. You should take her class if you want to learn things instead of getting a high GPA. She gives super-dee-duper clear direction for the hw!
She is a great English teacher. She loves to help students to make any questions clear. She also helped me to improve my essays before I turned in so that I got full grade. If you are a hard studier, A+ is very easy to get. Also, she gives lots of extra credits.
she is the best teacher I can remember in my life having. I am 53 years old and she helps make learning fun. i feel comfortable asking her for help. the assignments are difficult however, college assignments have been difficult PERIOD! lol and I am getting through, with help of teachers like Valerie Jensen.
She teach really well. it's easy to understand what she want to.
She is by far the most critical teacher I have had. She means well, and is never rude to students. But her English 101 class is more like an English 300 leveled class. She also makes things difficult, by not grading on a timely matter and therefore leaving you to not be able to revise mistakes.
She's a great teacher. Really enjoyed the way she taught and grading style. Participation is also important.
She is very willing to help if you need it. Tough grader, and does assign homework, but the homework is related to writing papers.
Valerie was a fabulous teacher. She assigned Plenty of Plenty of assignments, but stopped assigning them halfway through the quarter and based it on participation at our request. Always clear about her expectations and her grading. Very impressive feedback. I received three pages of written comments on my five page essay. 10/10 would recommend
Great teacher-funny and explains things well. Lots of class discussions for participation points. Do not procrastinate writing papers-especially the 10 page research paper. It adds a lot of stress.
Prof Jensen is a very nice professor. Wrote 2 very short papers and the research. She gives great feedbacks to your paper and they help when you write your research. She takes time explaining to you the things you are not sure with and gives extra tips to write better. She assigns enough time to write the paper. ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS IVE HAD!
Don't take her class. you will almost fail. Tough grade. Even you effort in her class but if she don't like it. you will not receive a good grade.
She was very caring and nice. she also had a great sense of humor. I could really tell that she cared about teaching students and as long as you and nice to her and work with her she will be more than happy to work with you. she does have one group project but she gives you class time to meet up with your group and makes it easy to get it all done
Valerie was hilarious, I took her 127 class and learned so much. I did have a lot of homework for this course, but it becomes managable. She gives lots of good feedback on your work so you know what you need to work on. Valerie makes the class enjoyable, I definitely recommend taking her class.
This is a very involved class - you will have lots of reading and lots of writing to do. You will also receive a ton of feedback. She has been the most involved instructor I have ever had online, so this was appreciated. If you're looking for an easy A with little effort she's not your gal. Make sure you're willing to put in work.
She reached out to me, asking if I wanted to meet in person as I was obviously having trouble. I said "Yes, please!" and then never responded to my requests to meeting in person. Class went on and I struggled. She continued to ignore my requests for help. I bought the $100 book that was required and never opened it! I would never chose her again!!
In online class there is a total of 3 units. BE prepared to read ALOT and PLAN carefully. You want to get everything finished in advanced. There's also many quizzes based on readings & discussion posts to do. She wants very detailed work, she's not your girl for an easy A. 3 PAPERS total, 1st is 1-1/2 pages, 2nd 3-4, 3rd paper around 10 pages.
I am very disappointed, being my first ENG teacher I did not really take anything away from this class. I recommend that you should not take any eng classes with her if you think online classes are easy. She treats the class as if it was a 200 level course
Good luck lol this class aint it, I only recieved an A because I was stressed 24/7 woo this was actually dissapointing
As long as you remember to do the work, you will do fine.
i took her poetry class online and she was a good professor. there are three writing response papers that are challenging at first but you get the hang of it pretty quick. she gives back PARAGRAPHS of feedback which is so helpful. there is a final at the end which is a multiple choice and a timed essay (two separate days).
this is the hardest class I've ever taken. would not recommend if you've never written a research paper because you really have to teach yourself everything. ive had to completely restart my paper 4 times because it wasn't good at all. She gives lots of feedback but I am still struggling. I wish the class was in person, or at least a hybrid.
Valerie gives great feedback that will help your overall writing and analysis skills! If you do the readings and turn in assignments on time you will be successful! Don't be afraid to send emails because she can break it down. Read all of the model essays she provides for reference. Pace yourself, writing takes time. I truly feel I learned so much!
I have taken English 101 & 127 with Valerie, and she is amazing. She lives out of country, so she really knows how to teach online. She is very thorough with with assignment instructions, and responds quickly to questions. She even offered to call me long distance when I was having trouble with an assignment!
An OK teacher. Comments on every little detail. I did her class online, but I learned a lot. Had to stay focused most of the time, though. Definitely not an easy A.
This was a very frustrating class. It lacked direction and you were left unsure of what to do. She just says do this but doesn't give guidelines on how the assignment was to be done. This class was nothing but stress-inducing. Do yourself a favor and choose someone else
1st SO MANY READINGS. 2nd she is not clear in her directions whatsoever and is very strict with her grading. (idea) If she gave us video lectures instead of so many papers to read a week it would save us so much time and have a better understanding of what we should do but no. please do me and your mental health a favor and not take her class.
I really don't understand how her rating is so high because she is by far the worse professor I've had. She gives you so many reading lectures a week that hardly make sense and when I asked for help with something she just said to reread the lecture that I was already confused on. It would have been an easy and peaceful quarter if I didn't take her
The ENG101 online class is not too difficult, but requires a lot of time due to the amount of readings she assigns. She expects a lot for a freshman-level class and is a fairly strict grader. Though she is not a bad professor, I believe youre better off with someone else.
This class suits people that work independently since there are many readings to do. She is pretty good at giving feedback and gets back to you quickly during her available hours. I got a B because I didn't complete a few assignments, but if you show hard work and submit all the assignments, I am sure you can achieve an A. (You only write 2 essays)
Although there are a few things that hold your grade up, there are times in which I found it was a lot. Although, it wasn't the teachers fault. There were times in which I felt she may be a bit confusing, although she would respond to questions in a timely manner. She gave great advice for writing, although I did not expect a 12+ pg final.
I'm in the middle of taking her and I can just say that you should just save yourself from a quarter of headaches and not take her. She nitpicks everything, there's a lot of handouts that could be easily solved by lectures, and a lot of the writing is unclear in her directions. She also gives you a lot of advice but most of it makes no sense.
the worst professor I ever worked with. took time away for a funeral. other teachers gave me a grace period and helped me get back on track afterward. She wasn't understanding at all, from her "ethical standpoint" she couldn't justify letting me complete late assignments. INSANE amount of hw and reading. unclear instructions & doesn't reply ever
Don't take this teacher.theres a 12pg+ final.SUPER strict grading &her instructions are soo unclear I asked multiple times for clarification &she just told me to read it again. there is soo much hw and work due every week not a good class if you're a busy person. there is a crazy amount of reading. you'll spend 3+ hours DAILY on her class alone
Wow what an amazing professor. She made time for me outside of class and always gave excellent feedback on drafts submitted. The homework wasn't too complicated and was really useful for our paper. I had a family emergency and was not able to complete my paper and professor Jensen helped me file for an Incomplete so my GPA wouldn't be affected.
3 weeks in and I am trying to drop this course. is very biased. the criteria for the writing assignments is insane & overwhelming. has a 4 pg word document that's directions for writing 1 paragraph. also changes due dates & assignments. slow grader. has you do things that hasn't been taught. finding and reviewing papers
A lot of papers in this course, but it will help you become a lot better at writing. Prof. Jensen replies to emails quickly. The class is easy if you devote some time to it. In-person lectures were a waste of time, though she started marking off points to individuals due to absences. Overall, very nice professor.
We had about 3 major papers, not including mini ones. Lectures are boring but she posts them in canvas to go back and read. She gives like a page worth of feedback which is amazing. She grades as she goes so you will have your final grade around finals week. She is understanding and funny. She is a strict grader and her online class is easier.
Really tough on grading has a strong voice, easy to get confused.
She is sweet, but definitely would not recommend her class. She is ridiculously strict and paper requirements are way too firm. It is 1 paper for the quarter but it is definitely NOT an easy one. She gives a lot of critiques but doesn't really help you on how to fix the mistakes. Probably the hardest class I have taken. Again, don't recommend.
Super strict grading hard to get a 4.0 isnt really caring about most students not really needing english as a core subject
Hard class because of tough grading and lots of comments not really helpful
Valerie is really caring. At the same time she separates work and personal matters. My eng101 was academic writing, we had 4 big assignments, and all of them traumatized me in their own ways. Except the first one, we get to find our own topic to write the paper about (has to be not well known and etc.). Tough class, strict grader but super caring.
1 Research Paper that you spend the whole quarter writing. She is very helpful throughout it and does check ins to keep everyone on track. Office hours are great & she responds to emails fast. Students who do their research last minute will tend to get a lower score and are a bit screwed. Don't take this if you're not proficient in English.
I think what makes her so distinctive as a professor is how much in depth feedback she gives. She really takes her time to give constructive criticism that really elevates your writing. I didn't really get to see her personality since it was through an online class, but she was still easy to communicate with.
Overall is a great teacher and want you to pass the class just don't try to do everything las minute. You can always ask for help if needed and she will be helpful to her best ability depending on what you topic your paper is on.
I'm currently taking English 101. There is lecture about the structure of MLA formatting. The instructions are clear and any questions you have, she's there to answer. The class can be hard without putting in effort. But if you work at the class and follow the instructions, it's a lot easier. I will definitely try to take her 127 class. 5 Stars!
Very easy class if you're willing to put in the time. There's 3 big essays and 1 group project. She grades harshly based off the rubrics, so you just need to look at the rubrics for the essays very in depth. You have 3 free absences/tardies and then you will lose 15 points every time you're absent after that.
During the first part of the quarter, there were many homework assignments, but that faded as the quarter went on. There are three papers and one group presentation. The group presentation ties into one of the papers. She gave everyone three absences for the quarter. If they were not used, she gave extra points at the end of the quarter.
Professor Jensen's ENG101 is challenging but rewarding. Her detailed feedback elevates your writing. Utilize unstuck study and the textbook to ace this class.
To be honest, her class is one of the best class I've ever taken.Through out the course there will be 3 papers for 3 months, no final exam, and some quizzes on Canvas. Participation matters but believe me her grading criteria and all answers for all your questions are already included in the handouts. Take some time to read & you will get an A
Every day on my way to class, I wished I'd get hit by a truck so I wouldn't have to attend. The entire quarter is geared toward one huge 12-page final, and we're given countless assignments leading up to it. Each task has many rules and details that you can't miss anything or you lose points. She makes it seem like a Harvard class. Don't recommend
I thought English was always my strongest suit, but with her I question myself. She nitpicks at the smallest things with feedback a paragraph long, but the entire thing is vague and unhelpful. She acts like the class is prestigious leveled as if freshman/sophomores aren't taking the class. Be prepared to read EVERYTHING.
Shes a very good professor. Her class is easy if you actually pay attention and do what you're supposed to. She gives rlly good feedback on papers and honestly the papers are really easy
Easily one of the worst classes I've taken. She nitpicks trivial details while giving vague, confusing feedback. Instructions are unclear, yet students are graded harshly for expectations that were never explained. Despite claiming effort matters, grading feels arbitrary and unfair.
