This teacher is awesome! Her class was extremely enjoyable and instructive. She maintains a good student-teacher relationship, has a great sense of humor, and really knows her subject matter.
I would not suggest taking this class if you are not a serious art student. The teacher is extremely knowledgeable, but her lectures are disjoint, her attendance poor-but you'll have to play catch up with her, and she doesn't seem to enjoy aiding students
Go for it if you can do alot of reading, studying, because you will learn here. Almost not a Jr. College course. Excellent teacher, she gave all to her Saturday class just like we were real students!! :) :) :) Which we were, Thank you Ms. Kidrick.
if u just listen the lecture carefully, u would get at least B. you would learn lots of things about art history from her.
Very friendly, very helpful, answers any question, never gets mad, has a huge knowledge and love for art. Best teacher I have had so far. If you want to learn, and are ready to put the effort into it, she's perfect!
This class has a heavy workload, quizzes rely too much on the reading. Her lectures are excellent, interesting and very informative. She is personable, but doesn't always communicate changes in the syllabus to students. Overall I'm very glad I took the
I wish there were more teachers like Dr. Kidrick. Her passion about art hist & related subjects is contagious & she is ALWAYS willing to help her students. Unlike some other teachers she demands the best of her students-and helps them to give their best.
very knowledgeable & engaging, always open for questions, inc. quizzes, test & a research paper, but definitely worth taking
Took her Native American Art History (North America) class. This is the hardest class I have EVER taken. She is really knowledgable but her lectures can go really fast (she has SO much to teach!)... If you are a serious student and you want to learn a TON this semester, take one of her classes.
The hardest class I ahve taken at SCC so far. A real college class, not just something between high school and college like so many other JC classes. I learned more in this one semester than I thought possible. Do the work, stay ahead in the reading, and start the papers immediately. She will read the roughs and help you! Smart, challenging, bold.
She is an execellent instructor, her leactures are awesome and she is very personable, she even crack jokes about dumb stuff. Taking either class or both is a lot of work, there are a total of 4 papers, 4 quiz and 2 exams. She works with you if you need help. If you want to challange her she is always up for a good fight. awesome instructor
Pretty challenging class you have to memorize a lot of art works. Like the other guy said "real college class" I learned a lot. Very sophisticated and professional woman. Gives great extra credit on tests. HIGHLY RECOMEND
This teacher is awesome! She is full of herself but it doesn't matter. I took two different art history classes from her and she makes everything so clear. She doesn't mess around though. She is very tough but extremely knowledgeable. Taker her if you want to learn something about art but don't if you are not ready to work hard.
she is the only teacher at SCC that can even compare to my professors now at berkeley. if you are a serious student take her classes. her classes were the best preparation for the uc system.
This class is no joke, you will read, study, memorize (dates, artist..etc.), look at different screen shows. Its a lecture class, no actual hands on...so you visual people...have been warn. If you work and go to school, this class will kick your butt. Also, you better be interested in the subject...or it won't go so well. You have been warned!
She is a wonderful teacher...and I love her class!
What an insipirational teacher! I loved this class. It was by no means an easy class, there is allot of work but I really looked forward to the weekly gallery visits. I learned allot and she helped the artists in class gain gallery experience & exposure. Thank you Valerie, I am now doing my first paid comission thanks to you.
As far as the teacher is concerned she's very hard This is a very difficult class, if you think you should take this class b/c you didn't get the class you really wanted or you need to pick up some extra credits your in for a world of hurt, this has to be one of the hardest courses and I'll warn you this class should have an prerquiste is doesn't..
Valerie is extremely knowledgeable and interesting. She is not an easy professor, but that's great because I wanted the information. She tells you straight up what to expect and offers assistance. She made me work to get my information but it turned out to be much better than being spoonfed. Take her class and learn alot.
I have taken Valerie for three classes. She is crazy hard and demands alot from her students, however she is amazingly well informed and makes her lectures interesting and fun. Valerie is decidedly passionate about art especially manuscripts. She is part of the reason that I am double majoring in English Literature and Art History.
Kidrick is a really good teacher. She makes the class incredibly interesting and she actually knows what she's talking about.
Valerie is my favorite teacher on campus. She is no-nonsense and is VERY difficult. You better know how to write a cohesive essay and be prepared to work your butt off. If you really want to learn about Art History or learn what 4yr college classes are like, take this teacher. Getting a good grade from Valerie is a REAL accomplishment.
I did not like the class at all.
Professor Kidrick is not a hard instructor, but does not want you to waste her time. The class is interesting as she is very knowledable of art history. Although there are lectures, Kidrick also uses other means to teach, such as projects and films. Professor Kidrick makes art history "fun" for those who aren't interested at all.
Prof. Kidrick is amazing and I learned so much from her. Her knowledge of Art History is astounding & if you want to transfer to the University of California, this is a great prep class for you. Just go to class, turn in your assignments, read & you will get an A. The class is challenging but only lazy people want easy A's...right?
Kidrick was hard and not helpful. She is very stubborn and doesnt show she care. i pretty much hated her the whole semester
Prof. Kidrick was one of the greatest teachers I have had so far. Finally I fell like I am being asked to do work that does not insult my intelligence. She is super challenging, but I is worth the work! The most important thing is to STUDY for Slide ID and write your papers well and LISTEN. GO TO CLASS it will show if you don't! MODERN ART ROCKS!
This class was GREAT! Kidrick really wants you to do good, and tries to help however she can. You have to work, so maybe that's why the previous poster didn't like the class. All you have to have is an opinion, and in this class, as long as you can support it, you get a good grade. you have to THINK!
She is GREAT. easy A. 2 assigment essay, just 2 page , very easy
I've taken every single class Dr. Kidrick offers at Sac City. I go to UC Davis now and have yet to find an art history professor as clear and direct as she is. More importantly she is very candid, blunt and honest! Take good notes to do well on the exams and read the text for the quizes. Make flashcards for the slides! And dont miss class!
Lots of memorizing. Required essay writting. Doesn't take attendance EVER! She knows what she's talking about, but that could be a good or bad thing. Bad, because she expects a lot out of her students.. good, because she is accurate!!
Absolutely the most knowledgeable teacher I've ever met.
Gets off topic which leaves you confused. Does not respond to e-mails. Overall, hated that class. Why did i take it? Don't know...
Okay,if your life doesn't REVOLVE around art this class will be hard esp. if you're taking it to fulfill requirements. She STATES in the syllabus that even if you do all work as required, you still won't get an A- an unusual grading system I think, since you not only have to do all work perfectly, you have to go beyond, to her satisfaction for an A
Professor Kidrick is an extremely tough teacher. Her expectations seem unrealistic. I studied like crazy for her class, made flash cards, tape recorded lectures, showed up everyday and still really struggled. The majority of my classmates struggled as well.
She's pretty hard, but then this is a college class. SHe treated everybody like we were adults, and if you want to whine about something, it's gonna fall on deaf ears. You will learn something in this class, even if it means you have to work for it.
This professor is hard, but she's really, really good too. She makes you work for your grade, but you do learn something. I suppose if you want an easy A, you probably don't want to take this class. She's very smart, and really tries to help you if she can--but you have to do the work. If you don't want to work, forget the class.
Great instructor. Hard, but worthwhile. Loved the class!
She is a great teacher! She is very opinionated but she really knows her stuff. She doesn't give a lot of homework and she gives pop quizzes but they aren't hard because usally she will tell you when they are.
Love her to death. Made the class intresting and fun.
I enjoyed this class! She's very funny which in turn made the lectures interesting. I loved her class. All you have to do is study, do your work, and you'd get an A.
I really like her class and her lectures. One day I was sitting in the very back of class and i overheard her berating someone, she was really harsh, rude, snappy, and condescending.
I think she's great. And maybe whoever she was talking to that the previous poster noted deserved to be snapped at. Students in my class try to get away with murder, and I appreciate someone who won't let them. That's what college is supposed to be about, after all.
Kidrick is very knowledgeable. She has her Ph.d in Art History and is always talking about it. In her lectures, she turns off the lights and she has no lecture notes. Her tests are crazy. She gives you over 100 slides to memorize, then tests you on 30. She has random identifications from the book on the tests. Overall nice lady, but she's hard.
I got an A on my last test. I almost had a heart attack when she said "well done" to me. Expect to see hundreds of paintings in class and memorize all the paintings in the book, just to have her only test you on thirty. She will definitely try and trick you by testing you on paintings by artists that she never discusses.
took honors. I'll tell you it's HARD work but she knows so much and it's very interesting. Besides testing on the art she asks short answer questions that come randomly from her lectures mostly. Gives partial credit so never leave a short answer blank. 15 page research paper as a final project. hard but you come away feeling u learned something.
I found the class to be interesting but she just talked about whatever she felt like. she also gives tons of extra credit opportunities. Few pop quizzes and shes an easy grader on written assignments. All in all its a simple class.
knows her stuff- but also has got a serious attitude. quite often her rude tone and commentary distracts from the information. beware!
I look her online course. Was very confusing to get started. I'm not sure how I feel about this prof. She is clearly very educated with a lot of attitude. Pretty intense woman. I enjoyed the material, but felt somewhat belittled throughout the whole process. Would have rather taken this in-class than online. Would likely have gotten more out of it.
Oh please! People who think she'd difficult are just whiners. This isn't high school anymore, and college students need to get a grip and understand that they're in college. She expects alot out of you, its true, but she helps you as long as you are willing to work. If you don't want to work, get out of the class.
She demands a lot but she also provides all the resources to succeed. She's very helpful during her office-hrs. Although sometimes she comes across as intimidating, she's respeful. She prepares you to become an independet learner. Her teaching style is visual and auditive (she encourages participation). Fair grading system. 4qz, 2 Exms, & x-pts.
I only took her online, so I don't know how she is in person. She is very clear about assignments, which are relatively easy. She grades fair, and the material is fascinating. This woman knows her art history! The only negative: sometimes she doesn't answer her email, or takes too long to reply. Also, she can be a bit snarky at times, too.
A great instructor who really teaches. Clear, very knowledgeable, and brings a lot to the subject.
I like her! She challenges her students unlike most other teachers at JCs. This class isn't incredibly hard but it does require you to study and read. 70-90 slides to memorize and you get tested on 25. 10 extra credit slides. Tests consist of slide id, short answer questions, and an essay. Took Summer session & didn't have to write a research paper
I took her class online. Do not expect an easy A. Prof Kidrick knows her stuff and expects you to work. If you are serious about the class and do the assignments, that are clearly explained. You should do well.
She isnt understanding at all and her deadline due dates are confusing. DONT TAKE HER CLASS unless you like to be bored to death and like rude professors.
I think she's GREAT. She was strict, but I don't think she's rude. She just treats you like an adult instead of coddling us like little kids. I've taken classes at UCDavis, and she better than anybody I had there. You'll learn something from her, but you'll have to work to get an A. Don't expect a cake class.
Terrified at first impression and took me a while to appreciate her- but one of the only teachers in my entire Sacramento City Career (or CC in general) that I can honestly prepared me for UC level Art History classes. If you do well in her class- you'll be ready for Upper Division. Miss her! Study hard and go to lecture.
Valerie is AWESOME. She really knows her stuff. Shes funny and willing to answer any questions. Read the book, take notes, and make notecards for the slides and youll do great. I took her over the summer for Modern Art and currently for Renaissance. Only downfall is the darkened class that made me sleepy! BRING CAFFEINE!
If you have a passion for Art History, you'll definitely enjoy her class. She knows absolutely everything and more on all aspects of art. She is absolutely brilliant, although very intimidating in the beginning, she is actually quite funny and enlightening. I wish my schedule would allow me to take more classes from her. DEFINITELY recommend!!!
One of the best aspects of Valerie as a teacher is that she lets you know she's human. More than a few times she would have a case of the Mondays and spill a coffee. Her classes are great, you'll learn a ton if you put in some effort. The best feature of the class is her willingness to stop and discuss anything you dont understand. And she's hot.
Valerie is a great teacher. She can be tough and she prides herself on that, as she should. This is college and there is a certain level of intellect required to pass her classes. She will help anyone out that needs it if you ask her. She doesn't pander to students excuses because, as mentioned previously this is college, so Grow UP! :)
Professor Kidrick is an excellent art history teacher. She knows art history and her class reflects her respect for the course. Don't expect an easy A. If you want your A be prepared to go the extra mile. Other wise you will remember a lot from this class. Her midterms are not cakewalks.
THE ART HISTORY CLASS I TOOK ONLINE WAS GREAT. SHE SPELLED EVERYTHING OUT PERFECTLY FOR EVERYONE AND I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM CONTACTING HER. THERE WASN'T A LOT OF HOMEWORK TO DO AND SHE DIDN'T REQUIRE A TEXT BOOK. AS LONG AS YOU READ HER LECTURES, THE CLASS IS VERY EASY TO PASS.
Valerie is seriously amazing. She knows her material & is very willing to help you out. She clearly lays out guidelines, so she lacks a bit of sympathy in that sense. However, if you just communicate with her throughout the semester, it isn't a problem. I've taken her 3 times, & a 4th this summer, and I love her teaching style!
If you are an Art Major, consider taking classes from her. She is wise about this subject and knows what she's talking about. She also holds a law degree so do not mess with her. :) Overall this class was easier than I thought. I'm only an average student so if I can do it, you can too!! =D
Great Class. This extremely informative course also proved very inspirational-solidifying many divergent ideas and periods of art in my mind. I would take the class again for fun. Although not particularly easy, it was very interesting! Just do your reading, and it should be an easy A.
She is pretty tough as nails and won't BS, but if you come to class and take notes, study the slides and read the textbook you should be fine. she is hilarious, knowledgable &passionate about art history...especially Renaissance period. makes me want to go to Italy now. I seriously wish she taught at Sac state, where I'm transferring in August.
Took her online class. What was required was made clear from the start. Make sure in discussion posts you over elaborate. I learned pretty quick to BS even though i didn't care because he eats it up with a spoon. The fact that she did not require a textbook and had everything available on powerpoint made it very helpful. get a flashdrive and save t
She's really hard, and doesn't put up with crap from whiny students who think they should get an A just because they show up. If you want a cake class, take someone else. If you want to learn something, take her.
Really passionate and knows her stuff. Go to class every time and you'll have no problem with the tests. Expectations and deadlines are clearly laid out and she is extremely willing to help with papers and any questions you might have. I highly recommend taking her class!
She is a great instructor. I am an international student, and I still got good grades. It is a bit confusing to figure out how she grades the assignment, yet if you go to class, take notes, listen carefully to her lecture, you will be fine. Two 1000 words writing essay (take home), 4 quiz, 1 final and 1 extra credit assignment, that's all.
Wonderful professor, passionate and helpful.I took her class Fall'09 and it ABSOLUTELY prepared me for upper division art history at Sac State.I learned and retained more in her art history classes than any other I took in junior college. The 6 tests are slide identification with 2 essays for mid term and finals.Do the extra credit paper.
Her online class requirements were straight forward. 4 quizzes, 2 writing assignments, 10+ discussion posts, 1 essay final. It was difficult because she wants you to do substantially more than the minimum requirement. If you do your work and read all of the lectures, you'll do fine. She's a fair grader but don't expect the online class to be easy!
I took the online version of this class.I don't mind challenging subject matter, my issue was more with the personality of the teacher. Her tone was snarky when answering questions.I also found the final a bit weird,we had to write an essay responding to a real life email some wrote to her stating why they should care about art. Art is personal.
A breath of fresh air - very knowledgable, no attitude, clearly loves teaching and welcomes all questions. Hands-down best instructor at SCC. Helps to be a better-than-average writer, though - mid-term, and final are essay questions that'll put you through your paces. The book is expensive - rent it. Well worth it if you like this subject.
There's no doubt that she knows her stuff. However, she's often quite curt to the students who ask her questions and has openly mocked some in class. She throws slides up and lectures at length. It's up to you to figure out what's important. If you're an art major, she'll probably love you. If you're another major, consider another, better class.
This class is great. Kidrick is knowledgeable and clearly passionate about her subject. She is concise and will not take any excuses. Attendance is mandatory, and the text book is useful for the midterm/final-but if you just take thorough notes you'll be fine. 4 slide quizzes (mem. 40 slides, one drop), midterm & final. Not difficult. Great prof.
She is cool. No textbook required.
What a crazy awesome teacher to put some fun into an art history class! You have to hear her teach to know what we mean! Not for the light-hearted.
I took her online course for Art History, She appears at the first meeting to seem lazy but she's far from it, I usually can't stand history, or online courses, but she changed my mind, atleast for this course. Her notes on your essays are extremely helpful, she's polite, and she doesn't require a textbook and provides all the materials online! Cool
Great class, actually all of her classes are great. Take notes in class, you'll get an A.
Valerie is a fantastic professor. She really knows her stuff to the most minute detail and you can tell she is passionate.Take notes, show up to class, read, and be prepared for the quizzes and you can certainly pass. She expects your best not miracles when it comes to exams (which are essay only). She's very accessible and I learned SO much.
Prof. Kidrick is very informative and she knows well what she is doing. Don't take her class if you don't expect to work your butt off. This class is not for an easy A. However, you really learn a lot from her lectures. The quizes are easy, the online discussions have many good topics for you to choose. One researching project/power point and final
Took online course. Thankful we didn't need to buy a book. Enjoyed lectures but this was the most confusing/all over the place syllabus of any class I've had. You must write a LOT & then she tears it to pieces. Very rude / not encouraging / not professional. Glad it's over.
Professor Kidrick is a no-nonsense professor. The best way to succeed in Valerie's class is to show up, participate, and do the work on time--simple. If you are not willing to do that, do not be surprised if you fail her class. If you give a solid effort however, she will go out of her way to help you. God help you if you try to cheat in her class.
I took her ARTH 300 during the summer. It's not so bad, there are a lot of writing requirements, but her grading standards are pretty easy to meet. She bases a lot of her grade on word count. 1000=C so just do more and you will be fine.
Fun class, follow guidelines and you will get a good grade. Expect a LOT of writing. Not an easy class but doable. Do not take prior to completion of your Engwr classes; she grades heavily on grammar and sentence structure, since she used to teach Engl. She is one of the few PhDs out there who isn't too snobby.
She IS a good teacher, but the online class is hard (I'm a straight A student that's taken 5 prior online classes) and, I'm sorry, pretty boring. It's just the material, not her. I think she likes students who give major amounts of time to this class better than naturally smart students.
She asks for too much
I am currently enrolled in her Renaissance Tradition in Art class and I love it! There is a lot of memorization of artwork, but you will get that in any art history class. She is very entertaining and makes class fun.
Valerie is a great teacher. The slide quizzes are easy if you are good at memorizing. She does assign a 10 page research paper that scares most people away. But overall she is an amazing teacher. She is crazy smart and knows EVERYTHING about art history.
Her class is easy if you can memorize the pictures and their details. I learned a lot of history in this class. Normally, being forced to remember dates would ensure my failure. That isn't the case in this class. There is however one research essay (10 pages) and you have plenty of time and help. She said it is the hardest ARTH class she teaches.
My favorite teacher, she knows her art. Class is easy if you actually pay attention and do your work. She makes every art piece come to life.
She is the worst teacher I have every had! I am a straight A student that worked my butt off for this class! She is no help when it comes to the midterm/ final. Her slide quizzes are okay. Oh & her research paper is ridiculous, I have written a fair share of papers but her format and cite this that way and do this blah blah blah made it impossible!
I have taken a couple of classes from Prof. Kidrick. She recently changed her testing style and it has become almost impossible to get a good grade. I DO NOT recommend any class even if you are interested in art. I actually enjoy Art History, but her class makes it difficult to keep enjoying it.
Valerie is FABULOUS. You will work hard, so only take her if you are willing to work and if you have an interest. She knows a lot and I am actually interested in art history now! She is willing to help you so don't be afraid to ask!
This class is difficult to get an A in so you have to be prepared to work. The tests are memorizing art and the culture. I enjoyed the class and the teacher, however did not love it.
I've taken two classes with Prof. Kidrick. Her classes are not easy, but she is extremely knowledgeable and willing to help. I have absolutely no interest in art history, but she makes it interesting. Her lectures are far from boring, too. I would definitely recommend her, but not if you are looking for an easy A.
Professor Kidrick is an intelligent woman. That being said, you will have to work hard for this class. This class can be an easy A if you have good memorization for her exams.Helpful if you seek the help.
Professor Kidrick is no one to fool with and don't take this class if you are looking for an easy A. It just won't happen. That being said, if you show up to class, take fair notes and keep up with the home work you will do well. Finally, your best approach to the 2500 word research paper is to start early
very good at teaching about the Native Americans, sometimes i would fill her in about our customs. Tests take alot of studying for and memorizing dates, i would reccomend flashcards. Very nice and understanding.
She came off as rude most of the time. The class was setup very well and it was easy to follow each week. Each unit has a short answer quiz and a 1000 word timed final. The professor didn’t have a required textbook which was pretty nice. I enjoyed the material for her class and learned a lot from it. I just never liked her attitude.
The syllabus for the class was intimidating, but the class itself is manageable, especially if you are good at memorizing. Many points come from memorization quizzes and there is not really any homework except a 10 page research paper assigned at the beginning of the semester. She is a good lecturer and adds interesting context to the artwork.
She curses way to much in class. This is not the teacher to have if u have any social disorders. She honestly scared me. Besides her personality she grades hard and doesn't take any excuses. There are no second chances. If you study hard and are serious about the topic do this class! If you are just there for general ed don't take this class.
This is by no means an easy class and she expects you to work hard for your grade. There are 4 slide quizzes, one midterm, the final and one 10 page essay. It is best to start the essay ASAP do not wait because she is a tough grader. University level work will be expected. There is a lot of extra credit through the slide quiz though.
She clearly knows her material. She literally can speak for hours about a piece of art. But she greatly fails when it comes down to explaining. She is very quick to lose patience. I do not understand why she makes use of profanity in the classroom. And very poor at replying emails in a kind manner. Her attitude is really bad.
Her lectures are very specific so be prepared to take a bunch of notes and pay attention to the details she points out on each slide. Her exams are difficult and make sure to read the textbook because she includes it in them. Overall, she is VERY VERY helpful when it comes to questions about essays and is great at responding right away.
I am an average student... You just have to read the lectures and write 3 short (about 1000 words) essays including the timed. The essays are broad enough and your opinion about art, so it is easy to type. There is a 500 word discussion due every week and 4 quizzes total. Seems like a lot, but if you like art and reading, this will be an "easy" A.
I took the hybrid class. The best part about the class is the fact that there is no textbook! Kidrick is funny and likable. The key to success in this class is to thoroughly read the lectures and understand key points; she rarely tests on small details. Would recommend.
Professor Kidrick is really nice. She has a lot of sarcastic comments but do not be afraid to ask questions, she will not make you sound stupid. Show up to take notes (writing down the name, date, culture of a picture) and you are tested on that. Drops lowest test grade. Big research paper so start early and ask for her help she will bump the grade
Class was based on 4 tests including a huge midterm paper on your topic of choice about the art in the Renaissance. Drops lowest test score. There are at least 80?+ slides but only tests you on 20. This class requires a lot of effort and work so you're forced to work for your grade. Flashcards always help when studying the slides.
If you are looking for an easy class to fulfill your GE requirements, take this one. With only 4 quizzes, 6 online discussions, and 2 papers in 16 weeks, it can't get easier. Make sure to use your own words for quizzes and papers though, or you'll get 0 points. Lectures are short. Bonus: there is no textbook required.
Easy class to take for GE requirement. Like another comment below, it is exactly how it is. Definitely make sure to reword your phrases on quizzes because she's very strict on that. Keep up with your work and you'll get an easy A. Also, she does grade pretty tough so beware. NO TEXTBOOK NEEDED
My suggestion is not to take her if you are looking for an easy class. Yes, this class is easy but she makes is so hard. Her grading is too tough. She expects so much on her quizzes and homework but grade badly. She gives times on the quiz and expect you to write five or six sentences. Furthermore, her email is really rude and mean.
She obviously likes talking about art and that is good and interesting, but her test are just horrible her miterm essay and extra credit kinda expect you to be an expert at art. Ive gotten A and Bs in "harder" subjects lik MATH, CHEM, college lever writing, but for some reason I got a D in this class. Don't take her especially for just credits
The class isn't necessarily hard but she's just generally annoying. She has a chip on her shoulder and will be condescending when grading and replying to emails. She's really serious about following directions even though her directions are vague. She's not afraid to give you a 50% on a project for using contractions.
Kidrick obviously knows a lot about art and you can learn a lot from this class. She is picky about your work but just follow her rules and you'll do fine. There is a long powerpoint plus a fairly long essay plus quizzes but they shouldn't be too bad as they are spaced out.
She can be condescending and a stickler when it comes to your writing. One paper that's 1000-words minimum to get a C. A few discussion (kind of fun) and a handful of quizzes which a like 5-10 question where you have a answer paragraph/essay style. The Final was almost like an essay prompt and she list out criteria that you have to hit. There's EC!
She is stuck up. She makes you read 50 page lectures. She will except you to write 500 word discussion n her 4 quiz a she requires 200 words per question. She gives you a zero for using thoughts from your notes. She says use your opinion. It's art HISTORY. She should teach opinion HISTORY. Do your self some favor n take someone else.
She is extremely picky about how she runs her class. For example, writing two, two page papers. Submitting a very well written 2 page paper will receive a C grade, because C is average. To earn an A you need to write a thesis level 4 page paper. Same goes for discussion posts. If you write in the 1st person, you fail. Thats right, stay FAR away.
Avoid at all costs. Enough said.
Never take this professor. She has "plageriarism" standards that directly contradict the MLA and every other professor I've ever had and never warned us of this fact once. She gave me a zero on a midterm because of this and I had to drop the class for fear she would do more arbitrary things without warning to further wreck my grade.
I took ARTH300 online during summer session to keep my schedule a bit looser. This class is anything but an easy A, there is a lot of work. The bulk of the points are in quizzes and the final, take them seriously and give yourself the full 2 hours to complete them. Kidrick is very clear about what's expected, do what she asks and you'll get an A.
This online ARTH300 class requires a lot of reading. If you do not read everything, you will not pass the quizzes. Make sure take a lot of notes. Her lectures are clear and straight to the point. For her essays, make sure you paraphrase everything and use correct citations. Always elaborate what you are trying to say and explain the "why".
This is a class that you have to show up for in order to know which bolded slides are going to be on the quiz, midterm, and final. I learned a lot in this class, and you will too. I felt the textbook was helpful when the midterm and final came around because you can gather more information for the topics discussed in lecture to use.
If you don't have a clue about art, this is not the class for you! She gives sarcastic feedback & expect you to already be knowledgeable about the class subject. Im only taking this class because it is a G. E requirement. I also thought it would interesting to learn & have some knowledge about art. Big mistake. & now very discouraged about art!
Prof. Kidrick's lectures are confusing and unorganized, and yet she is a tough grader and expects you to understand everything. Took this class for my G.E. and seriously regretted it. While the subject matter is interesting, she presents it in a way that makes it incredibly boring and difficult to understand. Definitely would't take her class again
Prof. Kidrick's lectures are confusing and unorganized, and yet she is a tough grader and expects you to understand everything on the exams. DO NOT TAKE HER FOR YOU G.E. because you will be doing way to much work for this class and wasting time and energy preparing for her exams.
Valerie is very clear about what she expects from you. If you do what she wants, you WILL get an A. She doesn't take excuses for anything. Every time I emailed her about anything, she responded within 5 minutes. She cares about her students, but refuses to be a pushover. There were 6 discussion posts, 4 quizzes, and 2 writing assignments. Take her!
I took it online having taken other online class (English comp, algebra and Music history) and regretted it. It's the only class I've ever dropped. I couldn't work out what she wanted and felt it would be impossible to do well. She seems rather indifferent to students and assignments were vague. I have a 4.0GPA but I felt stupid in her class.
She is very mean and bossy. She orders you just like students are her servants. Absolutely not able to teach and does not know anything about art. IF you take her you will find yourself hating arts. I do not like her at all. She was not helpful at all.
I dont typically write a negative post unless there is a real issue with the professor. The work load she expects students to do is insane! She has these 1,000 word essays in which you get a C if you only write 1,000 words as well as a 500-word minimum requirement for each discussion post-again that is CRAZY! I have taken ENG WR courses online and
I would not recommend this class to anyone unless you enjoy doing a preposterous amount of work, where she will in turn question your capability. It is one thing to push students to be better, but a whole other issue when you make them feel inadequate-dictatorship teaching is obsolete! On a good note there is no text book requirements!
I have taken Prof. Kidrick three times now, and I never want to take a different ARTH professor. She is quite passionate and hilarious. I don't usually enjoy a whole class based on lectures but she makes it interesting, and she is a fair grader. There is also a lot of opportunities for extra credit! But it is not a class you can slack off in.
Not an easy A if that's what you're expecting from an Art appreciation class. Definitely makes you work for it, get ready to back up your opinion with facts. No late work or make ups on online short term class. Need to log in 3 times a week or you'll be dropped. 1,000 word essays considered a C. Art content is interesting but too much for G.E.
If you came for an A, get ready to work your butt off. Of course she's tough, but you come out feeling like you've learned something, not just for art, but for how to write and think academically. My advice: go to her office hours, it looks good in her eyes; read the textbook extensively, write several drafts, and don't miss ANY lectures
I got an A in this class and it wasn't an easy A, but it was manageable to earn it. She offers extra credit, she has the entire class laid out and organized in a way to where if you wanted to start working on material a little earlier, you can do it.
I had no problem with Kidrick, but beware that she is a very tough grader. She does give really good feedback and is happy to provide it for any papers prior to submission. I took her class online and there's not a whole lot of assignments which is nice. 3 papers, 4 discussion boards, 4 quizzes and a final, and a power point presentation.
Sarcastic, It's loke taking English Writing class with a nightmare kind of instructor. Professor Kidrick uses tools like a magnifying glass to punish and give the lowest score. She gives "0" scores frequently. Avoid her by all means. No feedback and no encouragement, no positve or non motivational. She humilliates students.
She was very fair and didn't BS anyone.
First and foremost, I met Kidrick at orientation and she was the most pretentious person I have ever met in my entire life. She takes this class way more seriously than it really is. She assigned 3 1000word minimum essays, 4 quizzes with 10 questions and 2 hours to complete each quiz, 4 discussions, 1 20 slide ppt, & a final. I BSed my way to an A.
Is she pretentious YES but has she worked her butt off for the respect in her field YES!!! If you are an art lover the class gives you the tools to describe what you love about art and recognize the different styles of art. I took it online and it was HARD but I got an A. Be ready to read also google helps during the online exams. I loved it tho.
This professor dropped me once claiming I wasn't even on her roster even though I paid for the class and met with her at orientation. Then dropped me again without reason. I read her syllabus back and forth to make sure I was doing what I needed to do. I emailed her multiple times. I'm really disappointed with my experience with her.
2 reasons for the positive review: 1) She had to leave halfway through the semester and the sub ended up being kind of a disaster. She gave me an A in the course, even though I know that's not what I got. 2) If you like art history, this class would be amazing for you. She's very lively and keeps a dry subject fairly interesting. Don't take for GE
Honestly, this is one of the few teachers at Sac City graded my paper appropriately. I was graded reasonably, but it was hard. This was not an easy class. She prepared me for the University level and what is expected there. There are papers, assignments, and quizzes. The quizzes and exams are timed. Take her.
After taking Professor Kidrick's Art History class I do not feel like I want to take any other art class. She is disrespectful and bullied my art comments and my writing style. Her art history teaching style is like taking an English class. She needs training to provide an experience that is enriching, motivational and inspiring for students.
4 quizzes (writing paragraph questions) 2 (4 pages) essays, grades based on your grammar and punctuation. She understands only basic ideas. 4 Dis (500 words each post + response). 20-slide Presentation 1000 words and a bibliography (-25 pts for each item missing). A final essay exam, for which you will have two hours. "C" is an average grade.
I took the online fast trak class, mixed feelings. Mrs. Kidrick is a tough grader and you won't pass the class if you dont do the work or skip assignments. Nevertheless, if you turn everything in on time and follow the directions, it is possible to pass with an A. The quizzes are hard, so beware of those. Very interesting class, albeit hard.
This class starts out chill but you will soon realize how strict this professor is and she will show no mercy. 4 tough quizzes all written questions. Final was 1 question and had two hours to write a minimum of 1000 words to get a C.
Kidrick has a reputation for being kind of a pain, and her class is a bit much for a GED. Decent amount of work for an online class, grades harshly on writing. Discussion posts aren't as bad as they seem. Only take her if you're ready to read and write a lot.
I am an art history major, so this class was great because she makes such a dry subject enjoyable. she really is passionate about the subject and is no bs. she doesn't take attendance, but if you're not there you'll be assed out because she says a lot of answers to the essay questions DURING CLASS LECTURE. i would definitely take her again :)
Her lecture slides can be confusing. I think she could articulate the material better. There will be questions on the quizzes that relate to the reading assignments and lecture slides but the information is not organized in a way that it is accessible, clear, or concise. I would avoid taking the online class and do it in person if at all possible.
This professor provides vague instructions for assignments. Course description listed mandatory text that wasn't (money wasted) and a mandatory field trip (not mandatory but helpful). Art is a subject that requires interpretation, Assignment instructions should not. I wanted more out of the class.
Boy, this class was tough, but I really enjoyed it. She is very knowledgeable and blunt. YOU NEED TO READ THE BOOK! AND MEMORIZE MEMORIZE MEMORIZE. She asks very specific questions on her quizzes, and if you miss one detail, you can't answer the question. The book helps for the essays too, really digs into the cultural significance of the art.
Valerie is awesome. Ive taken several art history classes over the years and her lectures are unrivaled. She knows so much about the subject and is so darn passionate its awesome. But beware of her exams. There are only a few and they make or break your grade. No small assignments, just huge tests.
She delivered the best lectures I had at Sac City. I left her class with a much greater appreciation/understanding for/of Renaissance Art. The lectures made learning art interesting and she had a fun story for many of the works. Write down ALL names, date ranges, and artists when she says so for memorization. Read text to prep for in-class essays.
She is the worst I ever took. I love Art but this professor made me hate it. She is so mean, she even post on annoucement tell us that Do not ask email her ask her some questions that we already know the answers. She said thats waste of her time. So useless and mean. This is basic art class but too much work, like an english class. Such a nightmare
Out of all the honors classes I have taken at SCC who would have known a Introduction to Art class would be the hardest. Professor Kidrick is the most meticulous grader I've ever encountered. Provides vague rubrics and discourages students to email her with questions. She grades based off of grammar and punctuation rather than material concepts.
Hate her class. Quiz is so tough, alot of writing. She checks every grammar and spelling. 1 quiz question is required 150 words, ifnot get 0, Omg. Worse class I ever taken. She makes me scared of art.
Her class would be better if she made it more interesting or at least posted the slides onto canvas. She goes at a painfully slow pace. Hope youre good at memorizing or this class will be a struggle.
Prof Rohret's class was lecture heavy, but I'd take it again in a heartbeat. She speaks fluently on religion, culture, politics, economics surrounding the art she shows in class. You need to take notes on what she says, of course. You will learn loads and get an A if you show up to every class and pay attention.
Prof. Rohret's Class is heavily filled with lecture each day. She knows her history and the artists involved. She will help you if you need anything, but you need to take assignments and reading seriously. The quizzes are easy enough if you memorize the works of art and their names. The exams require much information from both reading and lecture.
I don't recommend her. She expects you to memorize 140 art pieces by name of artists, year (usually double dates) they they were created, and all the details. She wants you to write long essays about every question. Extremely nitpicking, Unreasonable amount of memorizing expected. I don't know how and why is this person allowed to teach this way.
I really enjoyed taking Modern Art with her. Professor Rohret is clearly passionate about art history. She lectures the whole time each class, aside from test days. The lectures can't be found online so you need to show up, or make friends with someone in the class. Your grade is based on your slide quiz + midterm/final in-class essay scores.
A LOT of reading for this class. It's not hard material to read, just a lot in my opinion. She's pretty clear in what she wants from you. Discussion boards and writing assignments were not as bad as they seemed. Quizzes were rough at times, but doable. She quizzes on the videos too which were sometimes an hour long.
I took an 8 week summer class with her and it was pretty easy. There are 4 major quizzes that are mostly short answer & one question will always be about the hour long video she assigned as homework. There are 2 opportunities for extra credit. She grades relatively hard, but just over explain everything and you'll get the points.
I took the online class and followed the directions for each assignment to the best of my ability. The professor wants it their way or the highway basically. Doesn't give legit reasons for grades received. Very tough grader and doesn't give clear explanation on what they want the student to focus on.
She doesn't give a thorough explanation on what you could do to improve on writing assignments. She's not a fan of second chances so you either do it right or you don't. The class is pretty straightforward. You memorize a bunch of artwork for quizzes, and to do well on midterm & final essays you MUST read. Offers extra credit.
If you want an English writing class that concentrates on Art History this is your class. I understand we are college students but to be critiqued more on my writing than the actual content was frustrating. I honestly cant remember what the class was about since I was more worried about my writing and making sure I cited the correct way.
The class is format is clear, she tells you what she wants and when and doesn't beat around the bush. The most annoying was just the way she worded her assignments. They seemed really ambiguous and up for interpretation, yet she grades on specific things. Quizzes are really difficult, mostly essay questions with vague questions.
Best if you don't skip classes, don't take this for your GE. Overall she's a nice person, when she showed you the sample essay question, don't hesitate to snap a pic of it cause you won't have a second chance. The sample questions come in very handy for your first in-class essay exam.
If you are not interested in art history, you probably won't like this class. But if you are interested, she's by far the best professor to take. I've taken a few art history professors at sac city and she is just amazing. She is so great at making you look at art differently. She's brilliant and hilarious
She's a really good professor. There was not a lot of homework assignments, you got a couple worksheets, 3 discussions, and like 5 quizzes and an exam. The quizzes and exams are crazy, they're literally all essay questions that include you to find a pic to match the description. This is like an English class, so much writing, but still pretty easy
Honestly, she's probably one of the rudest teachers I have had in college. She doesn't accept late homework, regardless of the reason why it's late. She expects way too much out of her students, especially for an ART HISTORY course. If you can take this class with someone else, do! I wouldn't take a class instructed by her ever again..
Took her online art history class, studied hard and had an A+ until the final where my computer glitched and turned in my essay early. Tried to turn it in and let her know what happened, still gave me a 0 and bumped my grade down to a B. Ridiculous. Obviously doesn't care about who actually deserves a good grade in her class.
Great professor, if student is at the level she is expecting. Felt sympathy for first-year students. Hoped for constructive criticism, comments made came off as demeaning. It is community college. Professors should accommodate to the population and ensure success. Create a safe learning environment to allow mistakes and learn from them.
Fair warning, memorization is necessary for this class but if you love art history I highly recommend Professor Rohret. Her lectures are amazing and you will learn a lot. She grades papers at a college level because we are in college so it's expected. As long as you put the work in and show up you will do great (p.s. use quizlet, its a lifesaver).
"Ma'am, this is a Wendy's" But seriously, I took this course for my GE and thought it would be interesting. Since it said 'intro' into Ancient Art I thought the course would be for beginners. Holy crap she treats people in this class like they have been through college multiple times. I know I'll do fine but I feel bad for the older people at SCC.
I've taken many online classes - its not easy to be a online instructor and be engaging, caring, helpful. I am also married to a College Professor and I give Professor Rohret a 10 out of 10 Just a great human that cares and engages with you to help you be successful
Professor Rohret is my favorite professor that I've had at SCC. She is so smart and experienced and her lectures are super interesting. She may come off as pretentious, but she has every right to be. She has very high expectations for her students, so only take this class if you are truly interested in the subject. 10/10 would recommend.
Lecture heavy but I found them extremely interesting. She is passionate and knows what she's talking about. Includes: Image ID quizzes, essay midterm, essay final, two writing assignments, 12 page term paper. Doesn't grade hard, she understands we aren't art historians. Lectures are only in person. Lectures and contents of the book are similar.
I took Professor Rohret previously and I loved her. I really liked the format of this class because everything was organized and easy to access. No midterm, no final, lots of extra credit at the end of the semester. 5 papers spread throughout the semester but easy workload. I love this professor and recommend her to everyone.
There's 6 units each consisting of a discussion, a response, a writing assignment, and a test. Watch the videos and read the articles and the tests shouldn't be too hard. For the discussions she has a word requirement of 500 words and if you don't meet it your score will slightly drop. Overall easy class just do the work
Of all my profs in COVID shutdown, she translated her course the best. 4 units of history; 2 discussions per unit in form of 400-600 word responses (lowest scoring unit dropped), midterm and final in form of essay (Use specific examples AND make an actual argument). She's very up front and honest about what she expects from you. Very knowledgeable.
She doesnt like to repeat herself at all. I needed help with an assignment and she had attitude and just sent me the instruction again after the fact that i told her i didnt understand it.
Hardest professor to work with, not much clear instructions along with no help. Grading is very difficult. Expects too much out of you, even when it comes to simple tasks. Not much help when asked, only response is the given prompt from the assignment.
After three weeks in her class she decided to inform her students that on each weekly discussion was to be 500 words and each reply to other students should be no less than 250 words. this was not in her original syllabus and was not in her directions on canvas. she will not except late work for ANY reason. extensive homework horrible online teach
Has strict course policies that seemed scary at first, but I think they're something she deems necessary after dealing with idiot kids for too long. She's actually very reasonable, helpful, and passionate about art. As long as you take lots of notes on lectures and additional reading, and you'll do well.
I took Professor Rohret class for Summer 2020. It was scary at first because she is very strict but it was worth it. I actually enjoyed myself but sometimes her lectures can be long. No late assignments accepted which is understandable. On many assignments I didn't try as hard and still got a good grade! I would recommend her but be prepared.
She truly treats students, including first-years, like they've been in college their whole life like she has. She's rude and speaks to you in a condescending way. She's one of those people that thinks everyone is stupid except for her. She doesn't care about you, she gets paid either way. I only took her because she was my only choice.
Taking this class was interesting and was filled with reading on top of reading. I enjoyed taking this course but her grading was based more on grammar and composition than the actual content. I think it was BS to write an essay with a minimum of 1000 words for a "C" letter grade because she only gave 2 hours to write it. Don't take her online lol
I'm a stem major with no real interest in humanities but needed this class for GE. This was the perfect class because there are not many hw assignments. You have 2 assignments per week and they can be done without watching her lectures. A bit of research on the internet is enough to earn As in the assignments. Highly reccommend! Shes also verysweet
This class is writing intensive, (imo should count as a writing intensive course as far as units go -it doesn't). You are expected to have University-level writing skills in a CC intro course, as well as prior art knowledge. The writing subject matter doesn't even follow the course objectives, and the material is solely self-taught via PP slides.
Of all the professors I've had the pleasure of working with, Valerie is far and away the worst. Preachy, condescending, and every other adjective that could be used to describe her still wouldn't do justice to the damage she is doing to art and art history. Do yourself a favor and wait to take these classes with someone else entirely.
Just stop what you are thinking and turn around. Worst of the worst. A Quiz, 500 words discussions board and 1000 words writing EVERY Single WEEK. She's TOUGH. She takes off points on grammars, and she gives you only C if you do just what she asking you to do. For example, if she says write 500 words you have to write at least 750 words.
Three papers and a test every two weeks. The pace is self-governed for the most part, but she provides many links and personal lectures for each topic. Tests rely on students to have done more research on the topics to completely answer. Papers have minimums but each is about 750-1000 words. Prompts have enough in them to complete word count fine.
She is an illogical person it's easier to see once you're in the class and she grades tough just to make people miserable even though everyone is clearly invested in the work due to the readings being extensive. Doesn't seem like a logical or good person to me. Worst class ive ever taken.
Tries to be helpful but ends up sounding condescending and expects much with lectures that can be 2+ hrs long. Grades discussions and writing assignments on word count as this is an english class. Information is good/detailed but she goes off on tangents a lot and will sometimes ask questions about the smallest offhand comments she makes.
Prof. Rohert's courses are challenging yet rewarding. She is not an easy grader and treats you like you're in college. I find the subject and her approach quite captivating; however, if you're not interested in art history, it may be a different story. I really enjoyed her course, but can understand why others may be put off by her expectations.
She's difficult, yeah, but it's really deciphering what she's saying. I took her in the summer and was extremely stressed and again in the fall and understood what she was saying. She's willing to help and sends emails of encouragement. I took her online both times. I thought, even though her class is tough, I learned so much! I enjoyed her class!
I cannot even convey into few words the amount of displeasure I had having her as a professor. You can only do decent in this class IF you dedicate most of your time to her LONG exaggerated assignments 24/7. Her expectations are absurd and futile. I recommend you take any ARTH class elsewhere! Youll thank me later. Btw, GET READY TO HATE ART!
I would have dropped this class if I didn't miss the deadline, but I am so glad I didn't! I wouldn't say she is tough, expectations are clearly stated(!!!). Don't expect anything less. Can be rewarding if you decide to engage in the material and are truly interested in art, history, and architecture. She is encouraging and will give you feedback.
I took her for ARTH 304 & 306 back Fall 2021 (which were both 8 week courses, both being asynchronous). Lectures were a few hours long and everything is accessed through Canvas. Get ready to write a TON. 4 Discussion Posts, 4 Worksheets & 4 Writing Assignments along w/ 4 EC Assignments. I'm lucky to have passed with a B+ for both classes..
Worst professor. Don't take unless you want to fail. I regret taking her, the most stressful class I have ever taken.
Incredibly knowledgeable in her field and a joy to learn from. Her classes are always well structured and while lengthy her lectures are packed with info. Take lecture notes to help answer the writing assignments and do the readings. Don't wait til the last minute to start any assignment (you will fail) and avoid if you are looking for an easy A.
This is the first class I've had in years that I was actually excited to go to every day. Professor Rohret knows so much about the subject and explains it all really well. As long as you care about art history, it's easy to stay engaged and understand it. Date quizzes are somewhat difficult, but definitely not impossible.
Professor Rohret has been my Professor in 4 different art history courses at Sac City. Her lectures are engaging and ensure that you get the information you need to perform well in her class. Yes, the assignments are challenging, but they get students ready for the requirements they'll need to meet at universities. She is my favorite Professor!
She is extremely qualified, passionate, and knowledgable on the subject. Very picky about paper formatting (get ready to use Chicago) but overall, if you take this as an 8 week course, it will not be an easy A, but you will learn a ton. If my major was Art History, then I would really benefit. Her expectations are clear, and she is helpful.
Got my first B! Professor is very strict and confuses students. Get ready to listen 2 hour long unclear lectures. If you had to take her just write a long essay for every single assignment at-least 1000 words! I got C in my first weeks because of un-clear instruction on the assignment and she is very rude with students. Its alway the GE professor.
long story short, don't waste your time find a better professor. my grandma passed away, she asked me to submit an assignment, I submitted but she gave zero by saying I didn't site pages the way she wanted. all she said was rest in peace. being a teacher is not just about teaching its about how to respect your students and knowing humanity.
This professor is first class. University upper division quality. Her classes are amazing, and difficult because she wants the best from her students. Do not miss an opportunity to take any of her classes.
During an 8 week summer course (online), she was great. But, her lectures had a tendency to be long. Some were less than an hour, but many were 2-3 hours. Very passionate about her job, lenient in terms of partially finished work. However, because of a pet loss, she said she would remove a late penalty for a writing assignment...and she did not.
Due dates were not flexible and no late work accepted and you could not access the material early. I posted in the wrong place and she gave me no points. Writing assignments are 3-4 pages min for a C. Discussions are min 500 words for a C. This is not an INTRO to humanity class. It was ridiculous. BEWARE!
I ended up dropping this class halfway through the semester because I was so stressed out. I could have handled it if I was just taking this class and this class only. The workload, the reading, the writing, the expectations are tremendous. She's teaching at a junior college level but has expectations and criteria that fall under university level.
Dr. Rohret must read art history 24/7. She's knowledgeable in every area of art. I took 2 of her classes, they were highly recommended. Her classes taught me to grow as a writer, far beyond what my college writing classes taught me. Yes she teaches at a University level, and all her classes transfer! Isn't that what we should want in a Professor?
Not sure where all the hate is coming from; the professor is simply amazing. She can be seen as a tough teacher, but she has many years of experience and doesn't tolerate childish behavior and excuses. With decades of experience, her lectures are very interesting to listen to.
There is a LOT of writing in this class, but my issue is: My canvas had a glitch saying the final was due a day after it was. I sent her screenshot proof, and she still gave me a 0. (I turned it in the morning after the 11:59 due date, not even 12 hours later.) The essay was 12 pages long and took over 10 hours. I failed the class because of this.
I would recommend having a strong interest in art history when considering taking courses with Valerie Rohret. This course is very lecture heavy, and correct quiz answers must be from the lectures. She is a great professor! She responds to emails quickly and is passionate about her field of study. I am grateful to have her as a professor.
I had Dr. Valerie Rohret for a summer online course, great professor overall. Heavy on lectures, will learn to use Chicago style and write a ton, very particular about citing, tough grader, it helps to do the extra credit. Requires a book but most of the info you can get from lectures-very infromative. Very knowledgeable and passionate about art.
This class is no walk in the park, but the professor's expertise and passion make it worthwhile. Engage with the material, and you'll come out stronger. Unstuckstudy ai was a lifesaver for study prep - give it a try!
I had thisprofessor for ARTH304 ancientart. personally she is a bit boring and not very active, you just sit and listen. I like when professors ask questions and repeat important.doesn't provide a study guide at all. does not show you your slide ID (artifact quiz) scores thus why I kept doing so bad is bc I didn't get to see what I was doing wrong.
worst class i have ever taken. whatever you do don't take this class. if you want an A, you have to write at least 30% over the already insanely high word count. way too strict about citations and is such a tough grader. took up all of my time. would NEVER take this class again
This is the worst class I've ever taken. The professor acts like she's teaching at Stanford or something, with no logic or organization. She's clearly in love with her own voice—17 hours of lectures for one unit is absurd. It's like she thinks we don't have other classes. If you want a headache and an awful semester, this class is perfect for that.
Good professor. Make a quizlet for the slide quizzes. Take good notes while she lectures. Dim lights + monotone lectures = recipe to fall asleep, especially for a morning class. 4 slide quizzes, 2 essays during midterm and final. She's very knowledgeable and gives great feedback. Smart lady.
Amazing professor who is clearly very passionate about what she does. She calls herself a hard grader, but leaves plenty of room for extra credit. Memorization is key, I recommend reading the chapters assigned to each unit before going to lectures, but she's thorough enough that you can get by if you don't.
Don't trust the five star ratings they are fake, like a trap. This professor is the worst! Avoid her class at all costs. She assigns way too much work, like 18 hours of lecture videos in one unit. The workload is overwhelming, her teaching lacks focus, and she's unresponsive. Not worth your time or effort!
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS! I will warn you now since I took it even after reading the reviews because it was my only option. She clearly stated that if you write 500 words, you will MINIMUM get a C on A DISCUSSION POST! Ridiculous. Her messages are also very condescending & thinks everyone is an art connoisseur. If you can, dont enroll in this course.
Her lectures are way longer than they should/need to be. She talks about topics she says she doesn't have time to cover and won't be testing you about. She also has ridiculous word count expectations for the writing assignments. Don't take her class if you don't have to she makes an already borning subject unbearable.
There is a lot of work, but I found the topics to be interesting. The professor was extremely knowledgeable about Native American Art and I learned so much about something that I came into the class with no knowledge about. The final is a very long paper, 8-12 pages. Pay careful attention to Chicago style citations for the writing assignments.
This is by far the worst class I have ever had. The lectures are 2-3 hours long and about 4 videos at a time, not to mention all the times you have to pause it to write down notes which can easily double the times on those lectures. I'd rather read than hear someone speak for that long. Do not take this class if you are not an Art History major.
I would not recommend taking this course. She requires a lot of writing for assignments and is graded by how many words you have. The quizzes aren't too bad you just have to watch lectures which are also long. It's not about the word count, it's about the substance and quality of your work which she doesn't seem to understand.
Save yourself the headache. She will require 750 words and when you give 750 words she will consider that 500 words and give your assignment an F. The lectures are super long (up to 3 hours a single one) and they just ramble on and on rarely giving any substance on any artwork. Taking this class will kill any love and interest for art.
