Very bad teacher I think shes dyslexic so a lot of the math problems are backwards and not explained right. No leniency at all and she talks down to you. She teaches like a 1st grade teacher.
she's crazy. also a bad teacher. she can take the the simplest concept in the world and confuse the smartest person in the class. if you have to take her, your best bet is to buy the textbook and skip as much as possible & show up for test days, you might actually understand something.
If you show up to class everyday and do your homework that she assigns, then come test time you should be fine. Its funny how when people fail in a class there first reaction is to blame the professor. Your in college now, and an A isnt just going to be handed to you. You actually have to open your book and study to pass a class.
I had her for math liberal arts 2. Nice lady and seems to know material but doesnt teach in a very good way. The class is boring but then again the material is easy **** that you will never use in your life. No final exam but a bunch of online work and "projects" and a public speech to do, which is odd for a math class. Nice lady, odd teacher
I have a 3.6 GPA, and let me tell you, this teacher is HORRIBLE. She has a very rude personality. She says she "doesn't teach the test", but in reality she doesn't even teach what is on the tests. If you do not read every word in every chapter, you will be suprised come test time. She teaches like an elementary school teacher. YUCK to La France.
I'll be short with this. She CAN teach but doesn't like to go over anything if you don't understand it. she hates anyone late, stricted with attendance, work has to be on the deadline or your on your own. she will deduct from your grade. i don't recommend her at all! unless your really good with math. other then that, don't bother!
An okay teacher. The subject matter is pretty easy and not hard to understand. There is no required homework, just tests. She does offer extra credit in the form of MyMathLab assignments. Only downside is that if your textbook doesn't come with an access code you have to pay about $50 online to get it. Study and you'll pass the class.
If your reading this please take all these other comments with a grain of salt. Liberal Arts Math II by it's nature is a challenging course that jumps from subject to subject. But that is not the teachers fault. If you like to learn and don't live for easy hand me down grades, than take this course. Mrs. LaFrance is a kind woman-lighten up people
Professor LaFrance teaches all levels of math. You have to do the assignments. She lectures and you take notes. This class develops math skills, logic reasoning, professional speaking, and presentation skills. Syllabus is followed, assignments are collected, and homework is graded. It's a math class - so do the math! Welcome to college!
Professor LaFrance offers extra credit, my math lab, textbook use, term papers, lectures, and presentation projects. She handles her liberal arts math with discipline and organization. She expects participation. You must listen to the lectures to understand what is being taught. Take good notes and study and you will get a good grade.
Very Nice Lady, not my first (or second) choice for a math professor. I Like math, but couldn't understand what she was doing. Very confusing, little explained.
She is not hard but she is not easy. Attend class, do your homework and ask questions and you will pass her class. If you don't want to be in class then expect a lousy grade. If you want to pass and move on she is there for you. I was scared of this class but she made me feel very comfortable with it and ready to move on.
Excellent teacher for a difficult subject. Kind and pleasant, if you try hard, you can pass her class.
Assigned a ton of homework practice problems on top of actual homework problems which I believed was very time consuming. Her lectures and example problems where too simple which made the homework extremely hard to complete.
I love online classes, but this class is horrible online. 45 pages of directions at the beginning is too extreme. She gets too tied up in directions over and over again to make this class any way interesting. I feel she uses way too many different resources instead of focusing on the course. MyMathLab would have been good!
She was very vague in explaining everything and she gives way too much homework. She doesn't like it if you ask questions in class and hates it if you correct a mistake she's made. Just a bad teacher! Do not take her if you are not very good at math!
LaFrance is not friendly from my experience. I would stay after class to ask questions and she basically shoo-ed me away. But if you asked questions during class, she wouldn't spend much time with you. I will never take her class again as a student who struggles with math to begin with. I need a teacher that will actually care if I pass.
I'm usually very good at math, but when I took this class it was a struggle. Her examples in class are easy, but when it came to doing the mymathlab problems I was completely lost because they were so hard. She doesn't like if you ask your neighbor for help, but when you ask her the question you are even more confused. She's very nice but very hard
Don't bother taking this teacher, I'm fairly good at math and also enjoy taking math classes but this class was tough. When she taught the subject I understood it, but when it came to taking the test the questions were completely different. Not to mention the tests were only about 15-20 questions long. She doesn't care if you pass or not.
La France doesn't teach like a college teacher. I feel like I am back in middle school. She means well, but she makes even the simplest concepts incredibly complicated and talks down to her students. Half of the tests are word problems, and there are rarely similar examples shown in class. I had to get outside help to pass the class.
Not a good teacher! If math is not your strong subject, do not take her
DO NOT TAKE HER!! she is the worst math teacher. if you ask a question she will yell at you saying "you're confusing the class" her notes and homework are easy, but when it comes to the test they are impossible. I got 100% on all my homework but 40%-50% on all the test. She does not help her students and just is awful at explaining anything.
I am taking this class currently and I was just wondering has anyone ever gotten a poor grade due to lack of attendance? And if so how much and how many days did you miss? Thanks!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR. You have been formally warned. She is unhelpful, and if you have a problem with something she merely, 'thinks' she explained thoroughly, she will not help you, at all. She treats you like a middle schooler, and gives you the most ridiculous assignments, that haven't a meaning to statistics. Take my advice
NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. You ask a question and all she does it tell you to look through th e textbook to find an answer that doesn't exist. She basically refuses to help and doesn't care at all, just wants a smaller work load.
Terrible teacher. She's very condescending when you try to ask for clarification or a question. This professor made me lose all interest in going into a business major and because I cannot stand Statistics. She assigns a bunch of unreasonable projects that have vague instructions and grades them harshly ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND TAKING THIS CLASS
Tests are much harder than you think. Plus they are only 15 questions, so its hard to get an A. TONS of homework and projects. I spend hours a week doing homework, studying, and then her additional projects. All I can say is, UGH!
WORST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD! Withdrawing today. Doesn't care if we fail or succeed. Makes us feel stupid when asking questions, failing me because i missed 3 days of class. Scared to ask questions so i don't understand any of the material. Doesn't post grades till end so you can't keep track of your progress. Worst mistake i made was taking her.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She is very unhelpful, rude, and demeaning. She assigned six projects throughout the term, each of which had hardly anything to do with statistics and had very poor instructions that NOBODY understood. She gets frustrated when someone asks a question and makes you feel stupid. DO NOT TAKE HER!
She is a good teacher, and content is easy. There are no tests, but the projects replace the tests and they require a lot of reading/writing. The final month we had a project every week to do, it was time consuming. Personality wise, not good. She treats you like a 5 year old. Keep your head down and take notes, or else she'll bite your head off.
Other than the fact that she was rude and inconsistent, over the course of the semester we had to do an absurd amount of papers that didn't even pertain to statistics. Pointless class.
Ms. LaFrance is one of the best teachers I have ever had. L.A. II is a math class for non-math majors. It incorporates different areas of math and it's virtually impossible to fail. Even if you do an average job on the tests you are able to make up for most of it with projects. You people need to chill. Sorry mommy coudon't do it for you.
This math class is more of a Gordon Rule course. This is a class that requires multiple projects, including two oral presentations. She goes through the material quickly and you are basically on your own. The tests are only 16 questions long. That is over 6 points per questions. Two wrong is a B! I would try this class with another teacher.
This teacher was without a doubt the worst teacher I have ever had at PHCC. She is rude, inconsistent, and very illogical. There was so many points in this class every single student was left in the class asking themselves "what???" because her assignments are unclear and confusing. I completely understood the material but not the questions.
ABSOLUTE WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!! NOT CLEAR WITH ANY OF HER ASSIGNMENTS. I looked forward to taking this class but this professor is by far the worst I have ever had. DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES
Probably the worst class I have ever taken in my life. I tend to stick the tough teachers out, but this one was one I could not keep with. She is very unclear with her lectures and her answers when you asked her questions. Most of my class withdrew by the midterm. If you can avoid her class, avoid it
Instead of having tests, she gives out tons of projects. More writing in a math class than any other class I've ever taken, including English. The class is more like an elementary school class than a college class. No cellphones, no talking, no eating, and she watches your every movement to make sure you are following her lectures and not doodling.
Avoid this teacher at all costs! Huge projects, tons of writing. Afraid to ask questions because she gets mad or answers in a more confusing way. Very rude and irrational. Most of the students in my class dropped it by the end of the semester.
Talks down to students, absolutely no late work is accepted, and is the worst teacher I've ever had.
Worst teacher I've ever had. 5 projects in a semester is absolutely ridiculous for a mathematics class. She gets very irritated when you ask questions and barely answer them. You're not allowed to use your phone, talk, sleep, breathe, basically anything but listen to her teach mean, median, and mode... Half the class dropped the course.
Ms. LaFrance will target students and not give credit where it is due. Her papers and projects are designed to be very difficult. If you walk in even 5 minutes late on a day that a paper or assignment is due she will smile in your face as she hands you a zero. too much note taking not enough teaching. she makes an easy subject very hard on students
assigned us the most stupid project ever and if you aren't able to drive to the campus every day for a week (which i wasn't able to do), It is impossible to get anything higher than a C in this class. She also doesn't allow students to use cell phones during class and is really ridiculous about enforcing that rule. Choose different professor.
No tests, just extremely long projects that require extensive amounts or writing. The textbook is useless, but the online access code is mandatory. No late work is accepted. Very dissatisfied overall.
She should teach a kindergarden class. She spends more time with pointless "funny" banter then explaining a problem. She will stop an entire class to tell a student to get off there phone which is much more of a distraction. She REFUSES to show her work steps I've never seen a math teacher teach around a calculator so much. WORST TEACHER EVER!
Be prepared to use a book that doesn't provide enough information and is confusing. Be prepared to have on average 7 assignments a week. Be prepared to write a lot of reports. Be prepared to be told to reread the chapter if you try to ask her for help. You can get an A if you do ALL the extra credit though and complete every assignment.
This class was a living Hell for me. The professor wasn't helpful at all. When I emailed asking for help, I was told to read the directions. Then I was never given any answers to my questions.
Ms. LaFrance was the worst professor I have ever had. She is not clear or concise about what is expected. There are so many projects due that are of no value whatsoever and did not help me learn the material. The tests were terrible. Take the course online it will be better than attending her class. She says she's available, but is condescending.
I took LaFrance for College Algebra and Statistics. Many students don't like her class because they don't listen, don't ask for help, or they wait until last minute to do the assignments on myMathLab! All in All, she's great at what she does and is passionate about math. Don't take her if you're lazy, she deserves hard-working students! Awesome!
With 100% honesty I can say that Lafrance is one of the best professors that I have ever had! I would recommend this class and her to anyone who struggles with math. She is someone who genuinely cares about your success. Tests aren't hard except for the first one (no one got above a 80 in my class) but after that I scored A's on the rest.
She was the worst professor I think I've ever had. I had more assignments in her class throughout the year than ALL of my FIVE other classes COMBINED. Need help? Don't bother asking. Every email I send requesting help the response is in a rude manner and always relates to "Check the syllabus/read the material" She even made us WRITE papers(MATH??).
I enjoyed this class. The math lab homework is optional but I strongly recommend you do it. Your reward is that she allows you to use that grade to replace your lowest test score at the end of the semester. How nice is that! You also have several graded projects that I recommend taking full advantage of since the tests are challenging.
Attend every class or she will dock you points. Don't touch your cell phone. Don't speak unless spoken to. No jokes or laughing, at all, ever, about anything. She makes fun of you in a really subtle sort of way when you don't understand something. And I'm not saying she's racist, but, she's racist. Very subtle about it, but yeah. Bad person. Yikes.
She doesn't answer questions clearly. Rude, always seems bothered by questions.
DO not take this class unless you want to struggle through the whole semester. 5 tests go into the grade book, with little to no extra credit. More than half the class had to withdraw. Lectures only make the material harder to understand, so you're better off reading off the book.
I HIGHLY recommend that no one takes this class ever. I had to suffer nearly impossible tests, rude remarks and more. You are not to ask questions will be talked down to, in a very subtly yet obnoxious way. There are a total of 5 tests and that is it for the whole class. No way to get anymore points. The math lab and textbook is your on only hope.
She was very unkind to her students, and I felt like she just did not care. She made super easy concepts super hard. She doesn't even teach what is on the tests. She, also doesn't give out any homework grades. I don't recommend this professor to anybody.
Worst teacher ever! she would make fun of you in an indirect way if you didnt get a questions and we would have to write papers in a MATH CLASS!!!! we also had ridiculous projects of growing a mung bean and measuring it! we also had to have our IDs out when taking a test to make sure we were the right people. Never take her class ever again
Doesn't teach much math and is very unorganized.
Worst online class I've ever taken. Lots of work is confusing due to bad explanations. Writing assignments all have to be about a page long, even though everyone could simply answer the question completely in one paragraph. The only math I enjoyed doing in this class was adding up assignment points to see which pointless homework I could skip.
I took this class online and probably was the worst thing I have ever done. She wasn't a completely terrible teacher, it was just the amount of assignments due every week was insane. There was easily over a hundred assignments that were very time consuming. It was a lot of busy work that was pointless since they were only 5 -10 points. Don't do it
For everyone who is planning to take this class, just be ready to study lot and make sure to come to the exam. Her grading policies are also unfair to those of us trying to learn the subject. Good luck passing Statistics with Valerie Lafrance
Bad teacher. Makes simple things much harder the way that she tries to explain them. She gives a lot of work, some of it isnt even relevant to math. One assignment was actually on art and I think the only reason we had to do it was because she was on a stage with the guy in a video we HAD to watch. Would not recommend.
This professor is the worst I've ever had in my entire education. She doesn't care what your circumstances are at home, she'll watch you suffer.. She also demeans students to try to get them to work harder. She has called me stupid and told me she doesn't understand how my mind works. steer clear. DO NOT take her class. It's not worth it. AT ALL.
The absolute worst online teacher you could imagine. Made it more inconvenient that going into the class. Gives no leverage with her assigned dates. Absolutely absurd. DO NOT TAKE
Took Hybrid MAT1100. Had zero problems in her class. Homework was a big part of her grade but if you did that it was an easy class to pass. Attendance was important but I missed two classes and she offered to help me catch up and completely understood that I had other obligations. She's not nearly as bad as other people have said.
Terrible. Absolutely terrible. She is kinda sarcastic. To many tests. I would never take her again basically, and when you do something wrong she just makes you seem more dumb
Horrible math teacher. Have to learn Egyptian and Chinese numbers in a math class. She gets very annoyed if you don't understand something she teaches. She'll call you out and say that you "weren't paying attention and that's why you don't get it".
La France was my first college math class professor. I had to teach myself more than she taught the class. If you don't know an answer, she rolls her eyes and is too sarcastic. Only the 5 tests are put in the grade book, nothing else. More than half the class had to withdraw the class. If you can choose another professor DO IT.
Worst educator ever. More of as proctor than educator. Very difficult to connect with. No lectures. No guidance, No helpful communication. Exams are all on a Tuesday, so if you work be prepared to take time off. No excuses allowed. Apparently, she has never had a life outside of the classroom. God help you if you have kids.
She is caring and can be nice but her teaching and grading is awful... Sorry but how do you expect anyone to pass if all thats graded is tests and there is a test every week literally. She explained simple math in harder ways and assigned way too many homework assignments that didnt count as a part of a grade.
Not helpful and very critical, especially via online classes. Doesn't utilize the Canvas Calendar/To-Do-List to help keep students updated. Tons of homework. Unforgiving.
Our only grades in the grade book were 5 tests. No chance for extra points and makes everything way more harder than they need to be. Also extremely rude and impatient when it came to just about anyone. Never ever taking her nor would I wish her on my worst enemy.
DO NOT TAKE!!! She assigns A LOT of homework, like 7 sections of 20 something q's each for EACH unit and you have to learn it all on your own!! She gave out like four tests which were like 55 questions EACH but kept decreasing # of questions bc students were doing so poorly!! I pretty much gave up by the end hence the grade. Very strict! No ext cred
I am in the middle of taking this class right now and this is by far the worst class I have ever taken in my entire educational career. She gives a ridiculous amount of homework. At least 100 questions per module. Keep in mind that there at least 2 modules before an exam. She makes the entire class way harder than it needs to be. DO NOT TAKE!!!
She doesn't care about your personal life! There is no extra credit! She won't help you to pass!
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! Unforgiving, does not care about your personal life, and is not willing to work with you.
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE TEACHER! I have not once disliked a teacher at PHSC, and this class changed that. She has no flexibility, even in spite of the corona virus pandemic. E-Mails are not clear and concise. I would not wish my worst enemy to have taken this class with her.
Does not care whether or not you understand what is being taught. Is not flexible or understanding during a pandemic. I honestly thought the score on rate my professor was a lie, and now I wish I would have believe it.
She is very disrespectful toward students I was talked down to when I asked questions and would not recommend to rake her class.
All she graded were the exams. /:
Dont take her, she doesnt teach anything you have to learn on your own. She doesnt care about your personal issues. Too much work, no homework extension. She doesnt care about your pace you have to follow her pace the syllabus. She just get paid while my stat lab does most of the work GOOD LUCK Please dont take her. I promise you wont regret
Her class is not structured for any student to show their potential as her approach is to stick to fixed, inaccurate material that barely apply in tests or quizzes. She believes that her class truly helps students understand statistics in a sense where it is applicable in real life--not with a class as poorly organized as hers. Uselessly difficult
She's the worst professor I've ever had. You don't even need the learning guide. She uses BIg blue button, you can't ever talk on this application, only use the chat off to the side, no video like zoom, and she never looks at the chats for people who ask questions. She mistakenly kicked me out of an exam bc she thought I was a different student.
She doesnt care if you pass or fail, shell read from a PowerPoint and not actually teach. Worst course Ive ever taken.
In personal experience she had no enthusiasm to see her students succeed or enjoy learning math. I wouldn't recommend her.
