Skip her lectures (they're boring and irrelevant). Just study the textbook and the study guide -- you'll get an A! 2 tests + final, each worth a third of the grade. All M.C. except for 10 fill in the blank. Right from the textbook test bank.
Avoid this prof! She is disorganized, constantly late or cancelling classes, and doesn't know what she's talking about. People prove her wrong in class all the time. Suck up like crazy, as she is very passive agressive to those who don't. Fire this prof.
She is a ditz. She supposedly has a Ph.D and yet she couldnt define one of Freud's defense mechanisms. I'm not trying to be cruel but she is either an idiot or has a horrible fear of public speaking. Very easy, lectures a waste of time, tests very easy.
Avoid this prof!!!!! Constantly late for classes, she was even late for our final!!! Very disorganized, she doesn't prepare for lectures!!! Boring lectures...it seems like she's just talking to herself most of the times. Very arrogant.
SuPeR BoRiNg~!!!!!! Everything is straight forward from the text..if you can't come to class don't worry! Tests are MC rite out of the text and study guide. Tho she is boring as hell..it's worth it having her for the easy tests!

She doesnt know how to actually teach a class... the exams are straight out of the teachers guide
She was awful and I couldn't even attend class it was that bad
The worst teacher I had. Very unclear and talks as if asking questions. I hated her, and thank god I liked the course, or I would drop it. She is very mean, and you can not contact her for help. She actually got mad when called Ms. vs Dr. mistakedly!
She calls herself Dr. She doesn't know how to teach at all. She doesn't communicate with her students. Although she's easy, she sucks! If u just want a easy A, then choose her, but i promise u won't learn anything!Choose Elithebeth Newton instead!

boring class & a boring prof...let certain students dominate the class...like there's no other students exist...really dun need to go to class and can still get an A every easily!!
It was like every class I hoped that maybe she would teach something important and interesteing and every class I was dissapointed. Where did she get her PhD? Out of a cracker Jack box? She knows Nothing!!!

I found Dr. Lloyd very intelligible and knowledgeable. She went out of her way to help me and other students. I really enjoyed her teaching style. She does not baby us. One of my best profs ever.
her class is useless, only 25~50% student attend her class.Waste you time to attend her class, because all the note are totally base on textbook! Just study textbook, you will ok in this course!
She is very boring, and has an irritating voice. she is helpful to students however but drons on in class making the students extremely disinterested.
WORST prof ever!! She cannot teach, i don't know how she got the job, she's MEAN, irritating, BORING, narrow minded, unhelpful. --Avoid having her. Oh, and her notes aren't out of the text, they're actually quite ridiculus.
Very difficult and unclear. Scattered. May be very knowledgeable but has a difficult time expressing concepts and ideas. Some of the exam content not covered in class.
the post about her being a great teacher is written by her!! She is definetely the worst and hardest teacher ever. The average on her midterm was 53%!! She takes marks off for bad grammar. And is ridiculously annoying and gross
Very Boring, monotone voice. Speaks to the class like they are 5 yrs old. A major portion of her tests are based on videos!!!! Avoid taking her class because you will just end up not going anyways.
Clearly the worst teacher ever!!! Class consists of 3 exams including final worth 30% each and 10% for class participation. She thinks she is right all the time. No one shows up for class and majority of class is failing. AVOID AT ALL COST!!
oh dear.. what can i say?? this teacher is awful. there's nothing more to say. what a shame :(
terrible. unorganized. she missed 6 classes @ 2 hours each! needs to know how to manage time better. (did a chapter one class and left the rest for us to "learn ourselves") unimportant, irrelevant testing questions. class average ~50%.
Avoid this teacher like a deadly STD.
I was very dissapointed. Her lectures are devastatingly boring. She is extremely disorganized, her notes don't make sense, and she seems annoyed when you ask for help. Exam material is irrelevant to what she teaches. I don't think she likes teaching...
Not good. does not take any social responsibility about her attitude toward the students. exams too tough and focus on short details answers. materials interesting but not the teacher. too bad!!
She is very boring but easy. Her lectures are not too clear. Research exp. - very anal about detail.
THIS WOMAN SHOULD NOT BE A TEACHER. THE MOST TERRIBLE, RUDE, PASSIONLESS PERSON I HAVE EVER MET. She needs an immediate review, students are scared of her. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, those other two comments with smiles on her are from her because anyone in their right minds wouldnt say that about her.
Shes the most unreasonable, unstructured, and unprofessional teacher I have ever had. She makes U feel stupid when U ask quetions. Her notes dont make sense. 4 the exam U have to learn everything URself. SHE DOESNT DESERVE TO BE LABELED A DOCTOR. U'll be thankful if U never step foot in this class.
Valerie LLoyd is without a doubt the WORST teacher I have ever had! She's disorganized, condescending, rude, unprofessional and I think just a really bitter woman. She can't control he classroom, and really needs to find another career.
Lloyd is by far the worst prof I've had at Langara. She's rude, and doesn't help at all. You fall asleep or leave during her boring "lectures", and then fail her exams terribly.
She's calm and pleasant. She will help you if you ask. If you are looking to be entertained, she is not the prof for you, her lectures are very 'textbook'. She is nice and intelligent, I just wish she were more empathic toward her students. It would be nice to converse with her on a personal level.
very UNPROFESSIONAL, rude, wastes a lot of time, cancels class too much, exams are horrible because she focuses on the smallest details from her lecture that shes mentioned once, she needs to stop teaching and find something else to do!!!!
Very unethical,at my last class, she gigled and said that she's excited because it's the last day of class. Sometimes she has some interesting "games" to learn psychology. But her attitude makes everyone hates her.

She is by far the WORST teacher I have ever had in my life!!!!! She is very unorganized, and sometimes appears to be unstable. I do not know how or why this woman is allowed to teach. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!
Lloyd is biased and very unclear about her lectures and assingments. Exams don't match course material and are extremely long. Teacher is always late to class and often cancels her courses without warning. Overall the teacher is bad and should be fired. Fails students with D's or C's. Hates students
Contrary to what people has written about her, I find that she is very approachable. Her lectures aren't that organized, but I was able to follow without any problems. She is not as bad as some people say she is.
um...she tries.
She is the worst teacher I ever had during my school years. She takes time off due to personal problems, such as muscle pain due to gardening. She does not give out the handouts herself, in other words, she is very lazy. She is very indecisive with the assignments and teachings. Your basically on your own in this class.
I'm in the midst of writing a complaint against her. She is rude, condescending, unreasonable, horrible at teaching, the list goes on. Wants to be called "Dr. Lloyd"--I think her phD is bogues cuz she sure doesn't sound like an intellecual. I've never hated a prof as much as i hate her.
she will miss her class for nothing, very UNPROFESSIONAL, i dont think she got a PHD, she told us that school dont pay her enough!~ (SHE SAID THAT IN CLASS) and tell us not to call her. langara...just fire her! it took her almost 2 months to teach chap 1, and we were on our own at the end. if u are good at reading on ur own, than take her
extremely bad teacher, treates u like children, she's ignorant and thinks she's that bomb cause shehas a phd.
Valerie likes things done her way, if you can follow directions and ask questions when you're not sure whats going on, then you won’t have a problem. If you’re a sensitive person who can’t handle constructive criticism don’t take her classes. Her lectures are dry. The exams are text book focused.
Not organized-explains really fast.Off topic-wasted alot of time. Midtern-HARD. It's fun if you go to take it if you dont need it, it's not a good idea if you are going to get a good mark in this course. PLUS- i get super sleepy. However-she is very nice.

don't take her!! she is rude and hard and her exams are too specific!!! just to give u guys some ideas, here is one of the m/cs on the midterm i had: the first Canadian psychology laboratory was established at the University of _ by James Mark Baldwin, Canada's first modern psychologist and pioneer researcher in _ Toronto child development.
It's sad to think i paid money to sit in this class when i could probably have learned more from just reading the text book. Her lectures are SO pointless and her assignments are stupid. She should be a kindergarten teacher not a prof. OH and PHD my ass. Midterms are HARD. Don't try to cram, study!!!
she is one of the most boring teachers alive. she has no feelings for you. eg. i had an outline due on the 19th of October, and i went to get it approved on that day. when i go to see her she's like its TOO LATE, passed my office hours!wut the hell??? ya she is one tough teacher and she's sooooo cocky (I have my phd). Do not take her class. Period
Valerie is a very nice person, but her lectures are disorganized and she doesn't appear to be very clear on what she wants from students. I have never been so confused about assignments. Her expectations seems to change every time I see her. it is possible to do well but only by giving her EXACTLY what she wants. exams are ridic hard.
she makes learning a great subject suck! sure, she knows her stuff, but she doesnt know how to teach! phd or not, a dog can teach that subject better!
She is passionless and her lectures are super boring. It dosent really matter if a person has a phd its all about what they bring to the class. She brings nothing shes monotone and scatter brained. She talks to herself and rambles on as if the class cared about her comments. No one cares Valerie. She hates being challenged. SHE SUCKS!
She is the worst teacher i have ever had and if you make one bad impression she holds it against you forever. I honestly thinks it is ironic that she teaches psychology when she is seriously disturbed, honestly STOP LAUGHING AT YOUR OWN JOKES AND TALKING TO YOURSELF. p.s. her lectures are incredibly boring
she sucks
Better off just reading text because notes are not helpful. You might have to attend for the videos which are kinda interesting but class activity are useless. Unorganize w/notes and doesn't really know what she is teaching. Class is boring, not direct enough, students don't respect her, i feel sorry for her.
Her marking is totally not fair and she is never consistent with what she wants.correct assignment, see her again, and she makes you do new corrections, deducts marks when clearly its her fault for not be clear on what she wants, its like she wants students to fail, will speak to head about this prof, she needs to be re-evaluated
she is a nice teacher once she gets to know who you are...she gives bonus marks for doing extra projects like an essay worth 5% extra and an inclass presentation worth 2% extra...the class itself is not worth going to b/c she just gives the same notes as the book...however there are some videos during class which do pop up as Q's on the exams.
Nice, but limited interpersonal skills- smile, nod, and take no offense. Interesting but disorganized class, and I'm warning you- visit her in her office AT LEAST once a week to clarify her project expectations. She does not impart the information adequately in class, resulting in the ruined GPA of many an unwary student. Procrastinators beware.
Lloyd was never my teacher but she did sub for our teacher in the last week of classes in the fall. I found it very hard to deal with her. I feel it is important to have a teacher with personal skills and I assure anyone who is considering her as a teacher to reconsider their choice. Avoid Lloyd.
ohmigosh! this prof is soooo boring. sometimes it seems as though she doesn't know what she's talking about. she doesn't act like a teacher at all. her tests are fairly easy, though. but she always gives extra % marks if the class average is too low. it is both a good and a bad thing.
If you dont want to teach just quit and do someting else. Quit wastings people time, money and the overall willingness to get educated.
I took her cog psych class in September. You certainly have to be on top of your material in her class. If you expect to do well in her class, expect to meet with her as much as you can in her office for her guidence. She is a great person to talk to, and is very insightful, particularly in her subject area.
i had to drop her psych 115 class because i was not learning anything! she does NOT know her subject area at all, i dont know how she got her PhD, let alone became head of the psych dept. Rambling, boring, and cannot sufficiently answer questions. Avoid taking a class with her.
Certain she knows the material but her presentation of it is disorganized and unfocused, she is a waste of time embodied. We are currently behind 3 weeks. Of 4 years spent as a student at various institutions she is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Complained to division today with 3 others, hoping something changes.
Very immature and judgemental. Favours her students and marks depending on her first impression of you. Made me not want to go near this field. she actually swore and yelled at me when i went in for extra help. I don't know why she went into this field, teachers are meant to help and make a difference. Not to be ignorant and awful to everyone.
What a.... my mother always taught me if you can not say anything nice say nothing at all . This one gives women a bad name . Blondes beware . She gives the school and the entire dept a bad name as well. How unfortunate she potentially could be a new students fisrt impression of psychology and Langara.she should not be a teacher
She is terrible. I can't warn people enough about this horrid woman. She needs a psychologist!
she is a bad teacher and a ****
worst teacher ive had in my life...every class i just felt like screaming her class average for ever test was 60 percent..she is the biggest **** i haaaaaaaaate her she totally screwed me ...i learned absolutly nothing and i got an A in 1215 and tried way harder in her class rrrrrrrrr dont take her she should be kicked out of the school
worst lecturer ever in langara, she is nasty to the students, i think her hates her them, she shouldn't be a teacher at all!!! AVOID HER if u can, it is for ur own willness
HORRIBLE teacher. She laughs at her own jokes (wait, are they even jokes?) and rambles on and on about NOTHING. She talks about the same topic for 30+ minutes. She doesnt know how to spell "alliteration" - HOW CAN SOMEONE WITH A PHD DONT KNOW HOW TO SPELL "ALLITERATION"???? Don't take her even though her class "fits into your schedule". HORRIBLE.
man i cant believe she is still teaching, langara has such a wonderful psych department but has to have a horrible teach like valerie lloyd, she should be allowed to teach anywhere! I dont know why the dean isnt doing anything about her. Im sure students are reporting her but nothings ever been done, SHES EVEN DEPARMENT HEAD FOR CHRIST SAKE! WTF???
She was awful!!! I had a 4.0 gpa and I got a c+ in her class! Don't take her class, it'll turn you off psychology. She's illogical, scattered, and incredibly dull.Granted near the end I stoppped trying as much, but the overall average of our class was 49%...It's ridiculous!
She made me hate psych until another teacher replaced her after she left during the middle of semester. I skipped an entire month because we don't learn anything from her anyway. I taught myself for the first exam and got 94%. Her classes aren't worth attending. DO NOT take her classes, even if it fits your schedule. Just don't.

I was so interested in this class, but had to drop it because she did not teach us ANYTHING and I didn't have the time to teach myself. I can't believe she is head of the Dept, she is not a good teacher at all. I had Linda Scratchley for 1125 and I get a B+. Much better teacher, she actually teaches!!
Her classes were horrible, she taught whats already in the text. Really mean during her office hours, critized the student rather than her teaching ability. You have been warned.. she is easy though, but if you are looking for a nice prof, she is definetly not the one! Avoid her at all costs!
she gives handout to students and just follow the handout----hardly use the text book...but the exam is very easy for students do the practise exam
Clearly a research psychologist, not particularly strong on social skills. Nonetheless I did find her personable and helpful when needed. Exams were rather easy, but did require some studying. I wouldn't take her again, but she held her own doing something that's clearly not her calling.
She is boring to listen to in lectures and can be nice. Her exams are easy and you just have to read the text and her handouts for chapters, not being in class doesnt matter.
Not a great lecturer at all, pretty uncomfortable up on the podium. Not nearly as mean as previous raters had said, and an easy marker. Rushed through some difficult material while dwellin g on digressions other times. Posts practice exams and material online, my only prof to do so. Very helpful.
This teacher makes it very easy to pass this class with a good mark - that is, if you have enough motivation to attend her lectures. Unfortunately, all she does in her lectures is read from a booklet that she hands out prior to each chapter, show movie clips, and wrestle with her mirophone and/or projector. She has completely turned me off psyc.
Very sit boring to in her class. You can get away with not going and just reading her powerpoint notes online. Going to her class was a waste of a few hours of sleep.
She seems okay at first, but my god, she is NOT. If you see her outside of class she makes you feel stupid (even tho it took her 12 yrs to get her phd. Its mandatory to see her OUTSIDE of class, which is ridiculous. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU HAVE TO AS A PREREQ FOR PSYCH! Her exams are pretty easy... it's still not worth it. too much work!
ugh is right.
A big waste of my time. There was no point in going to class every day. All she did was read out the power point presentation, which she gave you a copy of anyways. If you do take this class do the practice exams because she uses half of the exact same questions on the real exam.
oh my god..the worst professor ever. She is SOOO boring, she's rude to everyone, always late, annoying, her notes don't make sense and it takes her about 4 weeks to get through 1 chapter and then 4 days before your exam says "you guys better just read the rest (2 and a 1/2 more chapters) on your own". Don't take her class. It was easy though....
She is sooo boring and slow. It took her 3 hours to go over the course outline. I'm only half way through the class and hating it. She freaked out at the last exam and starting taking away people's papers who didn't cover their answer sheets, suspecting anyone and everyone of cheating. Switch to different prof if possible.
Over all? Not that bad.. boring but a GPA booster PROS: 1) reused a lot of the questions from practice exams 2) Attendance wasnt mandatory but every once in a while she'd give marks 2 ppl who came 3) Bonus Essay = +5% on final mark & +3% for presentation. USE THE STUDY GUIDE! =)
I love Psychology, and plan to do graduate studies. This woman almost made me drop out of college. She is the worst teacher I'VE EVER HAD. Attendence in her class got you 10%, and despite the fact I have As in everything else, I took the darn B+ just so I wouldn't have to suffer through her "lectures." For the love of all that is holy, just don't!
Pathetic. Not worth the time and money. Even if you need the course, don't bother, just take it elswhere. Makes you feel stupid and thinks everybody's slow and dumb. Spends 3 weeks on one chapter, an introductory chapter, that is. Not flexible at all for office hours. Interrupts during presentations.
I'm sitting in her class right now. She just spent the last half hour insulting us because we haven't conformed to her ridiculous requirements for a 10% term paper which includes visiting her on office hours and getting interlibrary loans. Was 15 minutes late. Incredibly rude, may have Asperger's syndrome.
I thought cognitive psych was interesting before i took the class, but Valerie pretty much ruined it for me.she spends hours and hours explaining the same thing. She treats everyone like they are stupid and gets offended and rude if you question anything she says, even though she sometimes gets information wrong! lectures are so dull. Dont bother.
Awful teacher! Lies, doesn't understand her own notes, can't answer questions that go outside the boundaries of the textbook. She's just terrible! She wastes a lot of time with useless surveys and personality assessment tests. I never thought such interesting material could be made so painful to learn. Easy tests though...
Worse teacher I've ever had. She doesn't know how to teach and rambles on about useless, USELESS material that has nothing to do with the actual class.. she spends more time going over bonus work than the actual class. just read the textbook and you'll be fine, her lectures are useless.. late and never prepared.
I just started this class two weeks ago and I want to pull my hair out. The group project is a joke, the lectures are horrible, we've barely learned anything, and the textbook is an overpriced disorganized piece of garbage (a.k.a. "custom edition"). I'm a psych major and am considering dropping the course before it ruins cogs for me.
She is the most HORRIBLE teacher I've ever had!! She's NEVER on time for the 8:30 lec, NOT prepared! I had her class for 3 weeks now and we'r 1&half chapter behind! She focoused on bonus assignment WAY too much that she never actually taught us any test materials! In a word, she freaking sux! Don't take her class if u have a choice!
How did this broad become a teacher? I'm sitting in her 1115 psychology class, and we're getting a lecture on how to find median numbers and how to use Microsoft excel. We're 5 weeks in, and have JUST started chapter 1. She is ruining my life.
dont take her class! her test is NOT EASY. It contains M/C, short answers and graphing. Thats not a big problem if the teacher ACTUALLY TEACH!But she doesn't teach us ANYTHING. Except going over and over about bonus activites. 5 WEEKS since school starts and we just barely finished 1&half chapter! and the test in next monday.
First off, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS EVER! It took her 5 weeks to cover the Prologue of the book and the midterm is a week away with 3 chapters still not done. She spent the 1st 5 weeks talking about the same thing she said on the first day of classes. She doesn't teach at all! I passed this class by reading and understanding the materials on my own...
Taking Dr. Lloyd?s class was a wonderful summer psychology experience, its been a wonderful learning experience for me as a first year student in psychology and I really enjoyed her lectures.
Nice prof and SUPER EASY
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. We only have 3 classes left, and have only covered 1/4 of the curriculum! I WANT MY MONEY BACK. She goes on and on about the most USELESS details, and seems to be confused about everything. Total time waster. UNFAIR marker. I have never gotten less than an A- in my college career and I'm worried about passing this class.
easy prof! she isn't very articulate when it comes to lectures but she makes up for with her easy exams. Just remember to do the practice exams and you'll be fine. 25% of the practice exam are actual the exam questions. a very nice person
Nice Professor, Helpful outside of class! If you know the material the tests are easy! Over all good teacher
This teacher was not very captivating and clear during her lectures. I fell asleep many times and towards the end of the semester I stopped coming to class, am studying her powerpoints online and passing this course.
waste of time. read the text book and the powerpoints she puts online. and you'll pass, don't bother going to class ,although she does give bonus percentage assignments which are easy. That's the only incentive to go to class..but if you do do that , just go to the last half of class.
She's a nice lady but not a good instructor. She teaches so slow and she repeats the same stuff again and again. The lecture notes mostly not related to text book. If you gonna take this class, expect MCQ (from text book)and 2 essay questions (from notes) for exam. READ THE BOOK, GET HER NOTES, AND SKIP THE CLASS YOU WILL DO FINE!
LLoyd is nice but she's a bad teacher. Very unclear and turns the conversation when she doesn't know the answer (which is most of the time). Took her 3weeks to get through chapter1. There is a grp paper and presen. which is annoying for everyone. Just read the book. Be sure to be there when she discusses the answer to her essay ques.(not in book)
Her exams are 40 mc and 3essayquestions 2 of w/c you have to answer in 1 page.I mostly daydream in her class but I got 10/10 in her essay ques bec she gives the ques and answ. before the exam. (all of the ques. will be there on the exam so you can choose 2 prior).if you miss class, essay answ at ppt outline just memorize them evenif you dnt understn
Really bad at teaching and goes off-topic most of the time. More than 1/2 the class dont attend her lectures because they know how boring it is to be there. She always talks about bonuses which are grade school level work. She usually shows us videos+ brings a guest speaker (both useless)to the class which takes up a chunk of time. Dont take her.
GEE! whats wrong with you guys!!! shes AWESOME, she would do anything to help you.. and extra bonus points?? who doesnt want extra points!!!this will keep ur GPA up! she even sends a practice test just so we do good on the actual test! cmon now seriously! TAKE HER!!!!!!!!!!
Very friendly and helpful teacher! There are bonus points you can earn by doing in-class activities, presentation and essay. The practice exames were very helpful for preparing the exams.
She's alright. Easy but boring. I attend only because there is in-class bonus activities, but other than that, I usually nap in class. She likes to talk and read off her pp, so not very engaging. Exams are easy if you do the practice exam. It's basically the same thing. Read the textbook, cause the lectures don't teach you anything.
SHE IS AN AWFUL PROF!!!! She skips breaks when she takes so long to go through the material and doesn't delay the tests, makes you learn it on your own without going over it. She should delay the test if she can't go over the sufficient amount of time LIKE URGHHHHHH :@ SO FRUSTRATINGGGGGG. DO NOT TAKE ESP. IF YOU CARE ABOUT GETTING A GOOD GRADE.
Do not take for anything beyond intro psych. She should not be teaching this course. She is disorganized, late for class, and does not cover the material properly. She is also subjective when marking written work. Does she assume we don't look at our classmates papers and how she marks? AWFUL, just don't even!
Unless you hate yourself and want to end up putting your face through a wall. DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING WITH THIS PROFESSOR. She is unprofessional, disorganized, gives NO marking schemes, class average is at 43% right now. She's rude, and insecure. In constant mode of defense, and just overall the worst professor I've come across. DO NOT TAKE HER COURSE
Hate her. Holy moly do I hate her. Our entire class absolutely despises her, Rumour has it the other section is conspiring to get her fired. Dont take any of her courses ever unless you hate yourself and want to kill yourself slowly. It's like academic cutting.
We are two classes away from the end of the course and we have FOUR chapters that will be on the final that SHE HAS NOT TAUGHT - she says read it yourself? I am a straight A+ (4.09 GPA) student and I'm sitting at a B in her class. I am afraid to write the final exam because she is so miserable towards me even though I work really hard in her class!
Here's an outline of our awful semester (all chapters in the textbook are of equal length - with roughly the same amount of material to cover) Chpt. 1,2, and half of 14 (28 hours of class time spent on it) Chpt. 3,4 (8 hours of class time) Chpt. 5,6,8,9 (5 hours of class time!!) How this professor is still employed is beyond me...
I'm surprised at all the negative criticism. My experience in Valerie's class was really positive. Yes, there was a lot of reading to do but this isn't primary school. You have to be self-motivated to learn the material outside of class. You can't just sit through lecture and expect to absorb everything. If you love Psyc, this prof is for you.
Valerie is amazing! C'mon guys, she gave out bonus marks IF you attend classes! The extra research essay is also a mark booster! She gives you all these chances to get an A+ but you throw them away and say she's incompetent? Gimme a break.
Wonderful teacher! Go to all her classes and do the easy bonus assignments for a great grade. take a look at the practice exam, you'll have fun!
Easy A, lots of bonus assignments, lecture usually not worth attending. Take it online instead if you can.
PRO: Cognitive psych itself is a very interesting subject. Research project is on the topic of your interest! CON: Must read the text before class to understand her lectures. Most of the lecture material is basically review. Attend all her lectures (dull). She's a very subjective marker.
She doesn't teach... just reviews material from text book or off the internet. She is very slow; she took 6 weeks to go through the prologue. She does have bonus assignments, however you are marked as if it is a normal assignment. You will learn more by teaching yourself or forming a study group, there is no need to attend her class.
Absolutely awful. Highly demanding, must meet with her in person for hour(s) at a time to clear all assignments. Difficult to communicate with, found her to be unecessarily rude at times. The class is an environment where students are sarcastic and disrespectful due to her incompetence. Assigns chapters outside of the text that must be purchased...
VL is a really great teacher, "don't cha know". Go to all the classes and read the book is all you need to do to just pass. There are a lot of opportunities for bonus points and class activities to help the students get to know each other. Good times....
You can tell she knows her stuff when you talk to her 1 on 1, but she can't teach at all. Lectures were confusing, drawn out, and often off topic. She couldn't provide helpful criticism on exams, and the big term project had a maximum number of pages that was unrealistic. She did make herself fairly open to help us with it. I'll giver her that much
DO NOT TAKE HER COURSE IN COG PSY. You will get a bad mark and you will not learn anything. She covered 7 chapters, 3 of which were on cog psych. She missed about 6 chapters. Her exams are based on material covered in lectures and not covered elsewhere. Not in textbook, not online.
dull and dry. She will take forever on chapter one. Ive heard 2 months before. she knows her stuff but is on some sort of drug, she just stares right through you. but once you get to talking with her one on one she is very nice and sympathetic with your needs.
DO NOT TAKE CLASSES WITH HER! She has very boring lectures and she rambles on about the simple things. Shes not a fair marker on exams for open ended questions. It's either her way or you're wrong. Make sure you answer in full sentences with proper grammar or else you'll get the whole question wrong (even if the content in the answer is correct).
Seriously, she is so kind. Maybe a bit slow but to your advantage! If you do her pretests and bonus assignments there is no way you wouldn't get an A!
By far the WORST teacher I have ever had. Moves at an impossibly slow pace, her lectures are boring, irrelevant, and not informative of material. She told me the textbook was wrong and handed back our exams in the order of best to worst grades. Then her exams require you to know the material in great detail, with no help or preparation from her.
One of the worst teachers at Langara. Not a bad person, but she cannot teach. She is always late(10-15mins) and unprepared for her classes. She reads off of the computer to lecture and if she doesn't, she stumbles on her own words. She believes that she is smarter than the textbooks, other sources, and instructors. Highly not recommended!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Although she has good intentions, our class time was completely wasted with ONE MONTH spent on chapter one, and SIX chapters not covered by exam time. Our exam is entirely on material not covered in class. Expects way too much out-of-class time spent in meetings with her. This course is a GPA killer and tedious as hell.
I ignored the comments and ended up taking this course with her. If you do take her course, lock yourself in because you are going to go for one hell of an excruciating ride. You have been warned. Take this course somewhere else. This will lower your gpa no matter how smart you are.
Overall she is an okay prof, lectures can sometimes get a little dry but if you pay attention and attend class you should be good. Look over practice exams, most of the questions are usually on the mid term.
Took both 1115/1215 with her, she provides a lot of opportunities for students to get her bonus points and there is no way to fail the course
Valerie is a sweet and she makes me laugh once i got past her dry sense of humour, but she CANNOT teach. she reads off her slides and doesn't use her time well, spending extra weeks on the first few chapters, and only spending 1-2 classes instead of the given 4 classes on the last. isn't engaging in class and spent most my time on my phone. RUN!!
Her class very easy if you are self motivated. Unfortunately her style of teaching is lacking as she reads word for word her sides during class. Read the textbook, do the practice exams and you will pass, easy. She also gives many opportunities for extra marks. Anyone who thinks her class is difficult may need to rethink post secondary education.
All I did through the semester was either on my phone or sleep. Her class is basically useless, learn it yourself!
Avoid at all costs. I missed the first class and found out there was an assignment due the following class. Went to her office for help and she told me to FIND SOME STUDENTS FROM THE CLASS AND ASK THEM!! I was so confused; never had a teacher so reluctant to help! I slightly ridiculed her comment and she KICKED ME OUT OF HER OFFICE! AVOID!
Terrible prof!!!!!! Stay clear, dropped cog class because she doesn't know to teach. we had our first midterm on the day our second midterm was supposed to be.. She pushed the exam back 6 times.. Extremely rude to students as well
If you attend all classes, pay attention and participate while you are there, and do the practice tests, you'll have great success in this class. While not the most engaging, she knows the material and gives many opportunities for extra marks. She clearly outlines what is expected of you. Respect that and you'll enjoy the class.
There are reviews going back 5 years on this woman. The worst part is it looks as though little has changed.
Taking her class has made me never want to take psychology ever again!! Her lectures were boring and she wasted time on actively promoting her Psychology club. After a while I felt like she was trying to get us to join a cult. I dont understand how she's an instructor as she lacks major social skills and appears to have personality issues.
Valerie is a horrible teacher. If you are thinking about taking psychology, take ANY other prof besides her. She reads off her PowerPoint slides and isn't engaging at all. Don't even bother asking her for help because she will tell you to ASK ANOTHER student. only positive thing about her is that she gives lots of chances for bonus assignments.
She is a TOUGH marker, ask anyone. Her MC will annihilate your grade. She is a nice person, but she is not a good teacher. The only people that enjoy her classes the people who have take intro with her. She doesn't teach much and wastes time going off topic and then crams for exams. AVOID this class!!! Take cognitive with someone else.
The final grade was based off of 3 tests + up to 15% in bonus marks you could earn (must attend class to be qualified for them). Each test usually had 3-7 questions that were provided in her practice exams she gives you. If you do the readings (notes she gives youtextbook) you should do okay. Lectures are dry as she reads off her powerpoint slides
She has a very poor grasp of her own material. She is rude and disrespectful. She is stubborn and an unpleasant instructor. Even when proven wrong she continues to believe that she is right and will attempt to shoot down those who question her. Bonus marks are nice but it's almost not worth it to come to class to hear her butcher the topic.
by far the worst instructor Ive ever had. her lectures are dry and uninformative, she has powerpoints but they dont actually have any useful info except for maybe a few names. i took thorough lecture notes and still had trouble with her exams, her marking is inconsistent. and her attitude was off putting. overall substandard prof. Avoid!!
Her grader always seems confused and out of the loop. She does her best to go back and re-grade. If you can't make office hours, forget getting any help. Lectures are the opposite of interesting, she gets a lot of things wrong. Does give prep questions for exams. Some MCQs are wrong and she won't admit. You'll learn how to deal with difficult profs
Her lectures are long and can be boring at times and sometimes her material can be a bit confusing. If you open the textbook and skim through, learn the definitions and pay attention to her slides you will pass! I honestly didn't give her enough respect at first, but she does what she can to help her students out. Its not a hard class just boring
Her lectures are very dry and boring. Reads straight out of her slides.
HOW IS SHE EVEN A PROF. Seems as though she doesn't even know what she's saying. Hard to concentrate to her talking when it seems like she's just spitting out random words.
While I'm sure she knows what she's talking about, she REALLY doesn't express it well. Her lectures cover the material painfully slowly; most of the class is either on their phones or studying from the textbooks instead of listening. A lot of the information is factually wrong, but she's not really open to discussion about it. Super frustrating.
A very boring instructor. Often repeats herself and talks down to students. I would never take her class again!!
Lectures are extremely long and intensely boring, very unprepared, has lots of in class activities which are unnecessary. Avoid this class if you can!!! Her grades are based of 3 exams. Reads straght out of her slides, does give some examples but you're better off reading the textbook. AVOID AVOID AVOID
This prof doesn't know her material well enough and she always reads off of the slides which is not engaging. She gets distracted whenever students go in and out of class. Whenever someone asks a question or offers an opinion, you can clearly tell that she doesn't understand what the person is saying. Would definitely AVIOD and not take again!
A great Prof if you want your 2 hour lecture to feel like 5 hours!
Very Spacey prof who is Very specific about how they like work to be done, but doesn't clearly communicate how they want it done. Often find myself wondering why i didn't drop this course to begin with. would not recommend at all.
She is very nice and funny to talk with one-on-one but she doesn't prepare for her classes very well so we are always behind as a result. She has us use one textbook but then has us photocopy 2 chapters out of another textbook, which is a little annoying. Teaching isn't really her calling, she would be better in another profession.
Worst teacher ever. Is never prepared when she comes to class, she's always late. Just reads off of her slides and can never even answer students questions properly. Definitely do not take this class with her, it will not be fun at all.
Maybe teaching isn't her thing
not a good teacher
She tries, but unfortunately it is not enough. She needs more interaction with her class. I did not learn very much from her. Take the course with someone else!!!
The lectures are not interesting at all. She tries to assign class assignments which is not really relevant to the topic. She mainly just reads off her powerpoint slides and doesn't really provide any additional help. Not the best teacher but she's okay overall. Her exams are not too hard and she gives many bonus assignments.
Worst teacher I have ever had. I've stopped attending her class and have been learning myself. First class was her explaining how to do APA style for the whole 2 hours of class. It was so bad, I brought friends to the second class just to show them how bad it was. I am a psychology major and she makes me want to change majors...
The worst prof I've ever had. Tends to get side tracked with the lecture material, making the class progress slowly. When students ask a question in class, she either dismisses your question or she completely shuts you down with a very condescending tone, making her a very awkward person to talk to. Would not recommend taking a course with her.
I feel so sorry for all the people who want to be psychologists and take Valerie's class. Her special talent is making people hate everything about the subject!
If I could explain using emoji's it would be (-_-) and a gun.
Not Recommended
Valerie was the worst teacher I have had. She was regularily ate to class 10-15 minutes. She expects class participation in a class of 100 and wastes a lot of time looking for student responses. She reads word for word from slides that are available online. I taught myself everything from the text. She is so slow. Made everything so boring.
She is Very Nice by her nature. She is Sweet as a person but not a perfect teacher. Although she holds a doctorate degree in psychology but Lectures are super-boring. She doesn't use Desire to learn so u wont know your level or grades clearly-old School. She's very serious regarding plagiarism. Her first lecture was all about it.
The best thing for me was the opportunity to get extra marks.
Her exams are easy. Lectures were a bit slow but interesting. She wants you to do better and she will help you to do better. Happy Studies!!
I have taken 2 courses with Valerie and I liked then both. Valerie is a very helpful instructor. she is a tough grader on assignments but I learned a lot. Exams are easy. I Would take her class again.
I had a wonderful summer taking this psychology class. Its been a wonderful learning experience for me as a first year student in psychology. I really enjoyed Dr. Lloyd's lectures.
Dr. Lloyd is a great prof. She is so real and replies promptly to my emails and is very helpful.
I really enjoyed this class. It made my last semester at Langara very memorable.
Always giving out bonus assignments to boost up marks. However, lecture is a little sloppy. Her tests are very fair and she is very enjoyable. Replies to emails on time.
She is not a tough marker, she always gives us a chance to earn bonus marks. She is super nice but her lectures are long and super boring. But her midterms are based on her practice exam, videos we watched in class and the slides from her lectures. Unless you need to be fully engaged in class, I personally would take her class again.
her lectures were useless and her thought process is so scattered. her midterms would have questions that didn't refer to any of the info covered in the course. the textbook is really old and isn't much help either.
Very mediocre. I felt that she did not elaborate from her handed out notes, which made lecture extremely boring. The subject itself is interesting, and Valerie is very kind but I did not leave the course with a positive experience teacher wise.
Valarie is actually a really nice person and she wants you to do well. She gives you many chances to get bonus marks and homework is not heavy. Just two midterms, a paper, and a final and some assignments. lectures are boring, she may seem kind of dumb and an air head and she loses her train of thought alot. but she is a nice prof.
I do not recommend Valerie. She cancels classes very often and she is very rude when you need her during office hours.
Too many homeworks, not enough lectures. Way too many questions for an hour paper!
Her lectures and long and uninspiring so try to stay awake. She seems to regularly confuse herself with the material and pauses throughout the class regularly. She is nice though and likes it when you take an interest and visit her in office hours. All in all she's not the worst but not exactly inspirational.
Let's start with the positives. Everything that wasn't an exam was optional. That includes the term paper and our presentations. If you want a class where homework is minimal this is the class for you. That being said her lecturers are incredibly hard to follow and never on topic. Most things I learned in this class were things I read in the text.
She's one of the worst instructors I've had to date. She would say things in class that were offensive to many in class, confuse herself and she would get off topic. 0/10 would not take again.
Amazing,
Made us build straw towers in class. Yes this is a post-secondary psychology course. LOL
Best instuctor in langara college. Ready to help you everytime and motivate you
One of the best instructor of langara college. Only 2 mid terms and a final in whole semester. Just MCQs in each exam and gives a sample paper before exam which helps to get good marks.
Her lecture was far from interesting, quite boring sometimes. However, she gave us a lot of bonus assignment, which was good to boost my grade. Also, her exam was not so difficult, even though I didn't spend much time on studying. If you attend class, there are more chances to participate in bonus assignment.
Very dry lectures and had questionable opinions regarding mental health. All assignments are optional and it's really easy to get an A. If you don't mind sitting through her boring lectures i would recommend.
Extremely dry and fussy when it comes to exams but everything is optional except for the exams. Tests are easy and she basically gives you 10 free questions if you do the practice exam. Would highly recommend if you want to get an easy A.
Lots of extra credits that really help. Gives sample exams with lots of real exam questions. Boring lectures and she don't stay on topic, what makes it really hard to finish the slides for the exams, she would get to half and tell you to study the rest on your own. Nonsense group activities instead of teaching the slides.
I would not take another class with her if I can. Most of the time she gets lost in her head and has no idea what she's talking about. She confuses herself and the class while lecturing. Everytime I went to a lecture I couldn't stop feeling like I've wasted my time and money taking her class. She's nice tho.
If you want an easy psychology class, take it with her. Very boring but if you show up and do some of the bonus assignments, you can get a good mark.
She made psychology so dreadful with her dreadful sounds from the speaker and her awful lecture. All she said is plain out of the textbook. Most of multiple-choice aren't about the important concepts highlighted in textbook, but from random small paragraphs leaving you no way to prepare. Bonus marks worth a little. sheissobadIcan'tfititinlimitation
She is good if you want to boost up your gpa but if you are looking for quality study, do not take her. She gives lots of bonus assignment with mandatory attendance and exams are usually easy. Even if you won't study, you can easily get B's.
Take her if you want to boost your gpa. She assigns bonus assignments during class so you do need to show up, but its easy to get 10%+ of bonus marks. Her midterms are fairly easy, with 2-3 written questions and the same with the final. Lectures are very very boring and tests are based on textbook material.
super GPA booster. Assigns so many bonus assignments you don't even need to do amazing on tests. I skipped a few classes (boring lectures) and it was fine, you just might miss out on a surprise bonus mark here or there. Be sure to hand in all assignments first thing in class, and study textbook for tests. Very friendly and remembered my name.
Take her if you want an easy GPA booster. Don't take her if your looking for a prof who's good at lecturing. She gives opportunities for lots of bonus marks (bonus assignments are only given to those who go to class that day). Midterms and finals were pretty easy (mostly MC with 2-3 written, textbook based).
If you want a good boost in mark TAKE PSYC1215 with her don't be like me and thought both would be similar. Her exams are all multiple choices but a good third of them is stuff that you can't prepare for because she doesn't post all get slides. Her lectures are very dry and repetitive and she is a stickler for perfection. Lots of bonus marks though
Valorie cares about her students, the vast majority of things she does in class is to motivate students to be successful in the future. I loved her group bonus activities, she also has SO many bonus marks to help your gpa!! I personally loved her class, made some great friends, and loved how caring she is!!
Most of the time, she doesn't even know what she's teaching, she doesn't even understand the material herself and will constantly repeat herself about 10 times; then go on to contradict herself. She makes close to no sense at all, sometimes she even makes up the material in her head and you'll find the textbook saying the complete opposite.
Very easy to receive a good mark in this class. She uses Launchpad as her main form of teaching. Class discussions are very important. Her exam and finals are very easy also, she gives you short-answer questions in advance. Lots of opportunities to up your mark, pretty good teacher.
Valerie is a great teacher! I took psych 1115 because it is mandatory for my program and Im glad I chose her. She would always give very clear feed backs and reply my emails with questions very quickly.
One of my first professors ever, and Dr. Lloyd has made such an amazing effort to reach out to her students to make sure they're getting along smoothly. Homework and assignments are reasonably assigned and easy to navigate, her online work is excellently executed, and she always responds courteously to emails! I absolutely would take her course aga
absolutely loved having Valerie as one of my first profs. She gave clear feedback that helped boost my mark up for the weekly discussions. All of the homework and readings were on launchpad and easy. Her class overall is a gpa booster.
She took over a month to hand back an assignment that was worth 15% of my grade. She does not do any teaching herself and puts in zero effort, the whole course was done on different websites such as launchpad (I took this course fall of 2020, therefore it was online). Not too hard of a marker, but not worth taking the class with her.
25 pages syllabus The valuation is unclear She simply replied any email"read the syllabus No matter how many times you ask She doesnt care about students and makes it much harder to get an A She could have reminded us early that it takes days to finish But she announced it after we lost some marks I cant reach out others cuz there's no classlist
Dr. Lloyd was kind and helpful. I think the online component was very well done, as the various activities helped solidify the concepts for me. I also found the criteria for assignments clear and the grading to be fair. I would happily take another class with Dr. Lloyd if I could!
If you want a course where you will learn new and up-to-date concepts in psych do NOT take Valerie. If you like courses with 30 page a syllabus, an inflexible prof with unrealistic time crunches on papers, 0 lectures delivered by themselves, and midterms that ask questions like "how do you see assignments past due in launchpad" - then go ahead.
Expect long instructions (30 page syllabus) that contradict themselves for assignments based on videos made over 20 years ago. 0 teaching is done by this prof, she only uses external sites like launch pad. Asks for discussion posts, gives 0's if you post as a discussion post, she actually wants .docx uploaded, so you need to read minds for her
This woman has ridiculously high expectations and grades really hard. Unless you memorize every component of APA citation then good luck! Would not recommend :)
Just a lazy prof who doesn't make effort into actually teaching the class. Online discussions made no sense and the grading criteria were extremely specific for such small tasks. Deducts a large number of marks for the most trivial of mistakes. Would not recommend
Doctor Valerie Lloyd gives you the opportunity for so much extra credit you can't not get an A in this class. It's work, mainly writing, but if you do it, you get an A. Do the work, Staples is ok for your project...also a dog & a chair both have 4 legs, a back & a seat. You need to argue this in class for the A+. You'll know when.
terrible learning experience, terrible grader
she does a lot of grading based off your knowledge on apa citation, so if you wanna take her class make sure you know each detail when it comes to apa citing. however her content is pretty easy and i love that she gives us schedules per week because honestly it helps my messy mind out.
She was much more worried about micro managing than student learning. "or I won't mark it..." that is what I learned most from this course. Every single assignment included at least 5 criteria that included,"or I won't mark it. And she won't. content should not rate equally with font preference.
When you get handed a 26 paged syllabus, you run for the hills because it's already a big red flag for the kind of work you'll have ahead of you. I don't understand how she can release homework that takes at least most of the week to complete and have it be released and given two days to work on it. So yeah. Don't take her. :/
AWFUL. Do not take her if you don't want to stress out by her random and ridiculous deadlines.
Such a great professor she cares about her students and try to give as much mark she can give. 20% launchpad quizzes, 2 midterms each worth 20% and final quiz 20%, 5% discussion topics, 5% introduction and 10% paper
She will not be helpful to new students and if you mail her regarding any concern you will get the same automated reply saying everything in the syllabus provided. Take any other professor
If you're interested in pursuing a full bachelors or more in psychology, Dr. Valerie Lloyd's class is a great starting point. Give yourself 3 hours to do each written assignment and you'll really learn how to write for psychology courses. Well-thought-out syllabus and flexible when taken online. But yes, you'll need to spend 10+ hours a week on it!
The instructor adds absolutely no value to the course. She provides no lectures. The only thing she does is mark papers. She calls 3 of the papers 'discussion posts,' but there is no discussion and she doesn't let you know the topic of these essays until 3 days before the deadline. And she bases her marks on the most asinine of criteria.
I recommend. Her criteria for assignments is very organized and detail-orientated. Take your time reviewing what you need to do and take advantage of her syllabus. She is professional and respectful. She wants to see you succeed and prepare you for future Psychology classes. If you're not a slacker, take this course!
Clear grading criteria. Lots of reading and written assignments - don't take if you are weak at writing. Homework bi-weekly. Test material comes straight from the text. She is very particular with APA format and grades strictly (will fail you for incorrect format and deduct a ton of marks for missed italicization, etc) even if your content is good.
Professor Lloyd has a detailed grading system, with lots of assignments. Engage with the content, use the free textbook, and tools like unstuckstudy ai can help with study prep. This class requires dedication but is rewarding if you put in the work.
Just don't take her course, even online... crazy work amount
she's paying too much attention to her syllabus as everything is written there - her answer for any question, very inflexible, extremely tough marker, tons of homework, not flexible of helping students especially with online courses, don't recommend her, will not take any of her classes again, awful prof.
There will be a lot of work ahead. I got an A+ thanks to my personal effort; the 2341 online course isn't too difficult. Just be prepared to write a research outline and an essay, and you should be fine. I recommend taking her class online only if you're taking three courses. If you're considering four, I suggest you think twice.
Not very organized. Her instructions aren't clear and She's making you look for everything on Brightspace. You should help your students and not make their lives more difficult. We're also taking other courses, not just hers, and we work as well. Even if you've completed the assignment, you'll get a 0 if you don't meet her expectations.
Valerie Lloyd is the worst. She constantly contradicts the textbook and repeats herself endlessly. Questions are ignored or met with condescension. She reads slides, rambles off-topic, and leaves material unfinished. You end up teaching yourself. She made psych boring and miserable. Avoid—this class wrecked my GPA and love for psychology.
This class was a complete waste of time and tuition. Lloyd offered zero real teaching, it was just slides, confusion, and cold responses. I left every week more lost and discouraged. It destroyed my GPA, drained my energy, and made me regret studying psychology at all.Take any other professor but her, she's going to make you hate psychology
Terrible. 0/10 She's disorganized, cold, and condescending. Lectures go nowhere, deadlines are unclear, and grading is brutal. Old reviews from 10–15 years ago said the same, and sadly it seems that nothing has changed. I regret taking this course. It seriously made me question my entire major.
I've taken hard classes before, this one was just unfair. She doesn't teach, just dumps confusing slides and marks down without explanation. You end up lost, frustrated, and alone. I used to love psych..now I'm burned out. This class did real damage to my mindset. I usually would never rate profs but she was just so bad. Avoid her at all costs.
This course felt like a punishment. She reads slides, repeats herself, leaves work unfinished, and offers no help. You're penalized for things she never explained. I wasted tuition, time, and mental energy. Run from this class if you care about your future GPA.
This class felt like a scam. No real teaching, impossible deadlines, and she ignores your emails. If you wanna cry over APA commas and pointless essays, go ahead. Otherwise, avoid at all costs.
If you want a professor who actually cares, keep looking. Lloyd is cold, unhelpful, and seems to hate the subject she teaches. I walked into this class excited and left hating psych and questioning my future.
You'd learn more watching YouTube videos. She reads slides in a monotone, messes up facts, and barely finishes half the material. I had to self-teach the entire course just to pass.
Valerie Lloyd's teaching style is so dry and scattered it's painful. She reads slides in monotone, contradicts the textbook, and leaves you hanging. I had to relearn everything on my own. Wouldn't wish this experience on anyone.
This class made me feel stupid for asking questions. She'd either ignore us or act annoyed. I ended up teaching myself most of the course. It wasn't just bad.. it was discouraging. Especially hard if you actually care about psych :/
The material was interesting, but the way she delivered it made everything confusing. I'd leave class with more questions than answers. She's not approachable either. I just stopped asking for help after a while.
This wasn't just bad, it was straight-up negligent. She doesn't teach, doesn't answer questions, and somehow makes psychology feel like a chore. You'll learn more on TikTok than in her lectures. I want my time and money back!
I wasn't even aiming for an A. I just needed to pass and understand the basics. But this class made even that feel impossible. If you're juggling work or life stuff, skip this prof. You're completely on your own.
I put in hours every week, reread the textbook, took notes, attended every class, and still didn't do well. Nothing aligned. Her teaching is so vague and inconsistent, you end up working twice as hard with half the results. Total waste of time.
She's been getting terrible reviews for over a decade and it shows. Same complaints, same mess. It's like she gave up years ago and we're just collateral damage. If your GPA matters to you, avoid at all costs.
She adds no value. Just reads, repeats, and contradicts the textbook. You'll rely on the book, YouTube, and your classmates, because she won't help. Honestly it felt like I was teaching myself for 3-4 months.
Her hidden, impossible to guess standards crushed my confidence. I followed everything, but a tiny mistake in APA meant a zero. It's like she's out to catch you failing instead of helping you improve.
Valerie's lectures put me to sleep every time. She goes off on a tangent, contradicts the textbook, and half the time I don't even know what's going on. Tried emailing her, just got ignored. Total waste of time and money.
I wasted so much time trying to figure out what she actually wanted. No clear instructions, no feedback, and she grades super harsh on tiny formatting errors. The whole semester felt like a never ending nightmare.
She's super unorganized and has no clue what she's teaching half the time. Lectures are boring, she ignores emails, and her grading is so unfair. I have to say that i feel robbed of my tuition money.
She's rude if you ask questions, doesn't reply to emails, and just expects you to figure everything out on your own. Her lectures are boring AF and she's way behind on technology and teaching styles.
Her lectures sound like she's reading off a script she forgot to rehearse. Half the time I zone out because it's just so dull and all over the place.
She cancels classes but expects full participation when she shows. Like, pick a lane, please. Total disrespect for students' time.
There are reviews complaining about her from over a decade ago and it's still the same. No improvements at all. So frustrating. I can't believe someone like Valerie Lloyd is allowed to teach. Disappointed, never taking her courses ever again.
Not trying to be harsh.. she's probably nice but the way the course was taught didn't work for me. I learned more from the textbook than the actual class. It all felt very outdated, and I had to rely on outside resources a lot more than I expected.
I've never been so disengaged in a subject I actually care about. The way she teaches makes everything feel more complicated than it is. You're basically left on your own. I wouldn't take this class again if it were free. If you value your GPA or your peace of mind, look elsewhere. This course felt like a test of patience, not knowledge.
I figured the old bad reviews were just bitter students. I wanted to see for myself. Everyone said she was disorganized, dismissive, and hard to follow her but I didn't listen. The reviews from 2010 were right. I thought people were exaggerating. They weren't. I wish I'd trusted them.
I've never been this lost in a course. She talks slow, doesn't explain anything clearly, and when you ask questions, she acts annoyed. The class is painfully boring and unstructured. I regret not dropping. It honestly messed with my GPA and confidence.
Not the worst prof I've had, but definitely one of the most confusing. She doesn't explain what she wants, doesn't respond to emails, and makes the course way harder than it should be. Everything felt disorganized. Wish I listened to the warnings.
This course felt all over the place. What she taught, what we were tested on, and what was in the textbook never lined up. She barely communicated and grading was random. Felt like she wasn't really focused on us learning, just ticking boxes. Frustrating but avoidable if you prepare yourself.
I gave her the benefit of the doubt, expecting her teaching to improve, but it only declined. Lectures became more confusing, questions were dismissed, and grading got harsher with no clear feedback. Instead of guidance, I was left frustrated and more lost as the course went on.
She talks so slowly I found myself zoning out constantly, then suddenly speeds up when something important comes up. There's no structure or real guidance. I stopped attending lectures because they felt pointless. The exams were brutal.
Mrs.Lloyd rarely ever responds to emails or questions, so you're pretty much left to figure everything out on your own. Her exam questions are tricky and seem designed to confuse rather than test understanding. It's super frustrating, unfair and stressful, especially for first-year students.
I really wanted to like this course because psychology is fascinating to me, but Lloyd's teaching made it almost unbearable. Her lectures are confusing and often miss key information, forcing me to rely entirely on the textbook. The workload is overwhelming for a first year class, especially without any real study guides or practice exams.
The last hour of every lecture feels pointless because that's when she covers exam material nobody's paying attention to. It's so frustrating.
Office hours are pretty much useless. When you reach out for help, you get vague answers or are told to check the textbook again.
She's an extremely harsh grader. Miss one detail, lose major points — even if the rest of your work is solid. Some peers got zeros on full assignments because of minor formatting issues.
She jumps between topics so fast and barely explains anything clearly. It's hard to know what's actually important for exams. I ended up more stressed than learning.
She goes off on random tangents about unrelated stuff that just wastes class time. It's hard to stay interested when the professor can't stick to the topic.
Grading is way too harsh for a first-year class. Minor formatting errors or missing a tiny detail can tank your entire assignment.
Communication was nearly nonexistent. Emails went unanswered, and deadlines weren't clearly posted. It felt like I was constantly guessing what was due and when.
The course workload is overwhelming, especially for a first year class. There's no pacing, and she piles on assignments without considering how busy we all are.
Grading seems to focus more on tiny formatting mistakes than actual understanding. You could write a solid paper but still lose points over a misplaced comma or spacing error. It feels overly harsh and frustrating.
I kept making the same errors on assignments because I never got detailed feedback. It was impossible to improve or understand what I was doing wrong, which made the whole learning process pointless.
She's often dismissive or rude when you ask questions. It creates an uncomfortable classroom atmosphere where you don't want to speak up, even when you're lost and need help desperately.
Exams focus on obscure, nitpicky details instead of the core concepts we were supposed to learn. It feels less like assessing knowledge and more like guessing random facts.
She's insanely strict about MLA/APA. You could write a brilliant, A+ paper and still get a zero for a tiny mistake—like a misplaced semicolon or wrong indentation. She doesn't just want accuracy! she wants perfection. One F up, and your whole grade is gone.
There's nothing seriously wrong with the course, but it was underwhelming. It felt more like checking off a requirement than actually learning something meaningful. The material didn't stick, and by the end, it was hard to remember what the point of it even was.
Shes a tough grader for sure. You not only have to be precise, you have to be downright perfect or you will fail this class. She is very nitpicky, she will mark you down for the tiniest things like wrong citations. I realize that her lectures, assignments and exams are not aligned. We would learn about one thing & get tested on whole another thing.
She refuses to record lectures even when people are sick, saying it's ‘your responsibility to be here.' Class notes are full of typos and missing information. You'll spend more time Googling basic concepts than actually learning in class.
At times, she can be overly focused on small details, such as citation styles, rather than prioritizing a deeper understanding of the main concepts. She also assigns a heavy workload to first-year students, which I feel can be overwhelming and a bit unfair.
she takes small details very seriously did not check the assignent even for tiny mistakes likes citations. i lost 10 marks directly just because she didnot want to check my assignment as parmalink was wrong.
She is actually a good prof if you are a good student. Show up on time, complete class assignments during class, do your homework and pay attention to her preferences for citations
Follow along with the syllabus, be mindful of the *specific* assignment criteria, do the work, and you'll be fine. I enjoyed this class. Yes she's a hard marker but she lays out the assignment expectations and grading rubric clearly so there aren't really any surprises (if you're paying attention). I found her teaching style firm, but fair.
Lectures are unorganized and often overcomplicate seemingly simple concepts, and the classroom environment is uncomfortable, which makes it difficult to ask for clarification.
She honestly isn't as bad as the reviews suggest. Only had 2 assignments this sem, guidelines followed and received low grade+minimal feedback. Textbook required but you can get away without, be sure to follow Achieve. Her lectures are a snooze fest and multiple instances of keeping us in after class ended. Sometimes there's an attendance sheet.
gave my friend a zero on an assignment for a typo.
she gave several students zeroes for minor formatting issues in assignments. very unjust in marking, very little empathy for students and situational circumstance. boring lectures and poor explanations. nothing could sway me into taking one of her courses again.
