Wonderful professor but she is demanding. If you are ready to study and actually learn a lot, take this class.

Take this class ONLY if you are serious about learning French. Anyone who's not committed will drop out by the end of the course. If you are committed, you will have an absolutely wonderful professor guiding you every step of the way. The class bonds quickly and there is a great energy to the course!

A realyy wonderful porfessor! Loved her. Very fair to students. Does not let you slack off. lazy students won't pass this class. She is serious about you learning French. Bur also very helpful and always available.

It is my third French course and so far, she is the best prof I've ever had. Reasonable amount of homework (if you are a serious student.) Always ready to help if she sees you are putting real efforts into the course. Lazy students do not stay long in her class.

Although I am not that good at learning French Prof. Valerie always helped me whenever I needed it. Very patient prof. Does not mind to repeat over and over. And fun too!

Professor is extremely nice.. very funny.. teaches very well but gives so much work! Must work hard to pass and must review in order to get by in class! She's one of those professors that go around the room for classwork. Overall, good professor.. made me interested in the subject.. just make sure you do your work!

She’s a great teacher, but you can’t be lazy or fall behind. The class moves quickly so you must study an hour a day at least if you want an A. But she’s really nice and has a wonderful sense of humor. She is much more patient than I would be. I adored her.

Shes very nice but goes fast. Gives alot of hw. Make sure to have your text every class cuz she uses it. Also make sure to study or u'll fall behind. try not to miss a class cuz if u do then u fall WAY behind. Overall she is a good French teacher. I would take her again.

Do not take this class unless it is the only class you are taking in the semester because it will take up all your time. She suggests that we study at least an hour a day to pass. Tests are extremely hard. Its not about being lazy because people that work and go to school full time cant afford that much time on just one class and will not get an A.

She's a great person but boy is she strict. Tests are extremely hard, she's big on attendance, and she's a hard grader. If french is your forte you will be alright, but if you just need to take this class as a requisite i'd suggest you take someone else that is more flexible.

This is my 4th semester taking French and she is the best French professor i've ever had! She expects a lot from her students and treats them with respect. I improved my French tremendously with her and am now ready to continue at Columbia U. She is not for the lazy student though.

Alright, so I was taking a calculus class this semester and It didn't even come close to the amount of work and difficulty I encountered taking her class lol I still ended up with an A but she does not play any games. BE ON TIME, do what you're supposed to do. Can't make up any quizzes or tests, just be there for God's sake lol APPLY YOURSELF.

I had her in 105 and it really helped me for 106. Some classmates had higher grade than me in 105 but could not follow in 106. I did fine. French is not easy.

I took her French 105 face to face and then 106 online. 106 was not easy, it is especially difficult if you are not organized. But I got a good grades in both classes. Don't take the online if you are not well organised though.

I took her classes 2 semesters in a row. Never had French before but signing for 3rd semester. Super organized professor. Went to her office many times and she always helped me. Not a course for slackers though.

Loved her african literature course. Very knowledgeable prof. I learned so much about african culture and I liked the movies a lot. She dropped all lowest grades and gave extra credit.

I took her online winter session and I absolutely loved her! She goes above and beyond to make sure every student succeeds and provides plenty of resources. She gives great feedback and she's extremely well organized. My only complaint is that I had a 99.91% at the end of the session, but only received an A. Nonetheless, I strongly recommend her!

This was my first online class so I was really nervous. Prof. valerie's course is super organized and easy to navigate. I sent her many emails and she always answered very fast. She also gives lots of feedback and helped me with my pronunciation.

The reason I like this class is that the professor is very organized and you will know what you are supposed to do. There is a lot of work but nothing crazy, if you do your homework you will be fine.

Very accessible professor who seem to be answering emails no matter what time. She let me submit my asignments late and you can take quizes as many time as you want. I liked seeing other students on short videos. That was fun. Better than zoom.

I took her winter class. I loved it and am now thinking of pursuing French. I liked the organization of the course, probably the best asynchronous course I ever took.

First time taking a French class. I'm not a big fan of online but I had no choice. I met with prof a couple of times and she helped me and I have an A. The book is OK. I liked doing the videos.

I took this class with an e-permit from a different campus. I was very nervous at first because of the rating but a lot of them don't make sense. Activities on the Supersite are accepted late, we got extra-credit at the end of the semester. Prof. Valerie answered my emails often on the same day. Don't believe the haters and whiners.

Have taken Thiers-Thiam's classes for 2 straight semesters...best professor I've had at BMCC. Her classes are well-organized and she truly cares about student success. Foreign languages (especially French) are hard so of course the class isn't gonna be an easy A. But she makes things clear and will help you if you apply yourself. Highly recommend.

I have completed three courses as a French major, one of which was online while the other two were in-person. I must note that the instructor was exceptional.

I already have a Ph.D. but I wanted to learn French. Dr. Thiers-Thiam is one of the best teachers I've ever had. 1) She really wants her students to do well, and she does everything she can to help you succeed. 2) She's respectful of her students, always mindful of the challenges they face (families, jobs, other classes). 3) She's fun!

Professor Valerie is one of the best professor I ever met. I learned a lot from her. She is a GOAT!

After I took her class, I transfered to a 4 year college and got placed into the next level of french. Many of my classmates were lost. I thanked her for preparing me for that course. She doesn't lower the standard just because she teaches at BMCC.

I took 2 summer semesters with her. She met with me many times on zoom and helped me with completing assignments. I liked doing the videos a lot and seeing other students.

After failing French 105 on zoom I took this class and am getting an A/A-. I like that this class has no test and you have unlimited attempts for most ectivities. She also lets you redo assigmnents. And she accepts late homework.

I was so scared of failing this course. Prof T met with me at night and sometime week ends and helped me pass. Super patient and caring

I took this course with an epermit. Coming from a different college, I found to the course load to be more manageable than where I come from.

She is organized and that helps. I prefer in-person classes though. Take online only if you have to.

Professor T is organized and explains concepts well. The workload is manageable, and they're available for extra help. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for study prep. Overall, a solid class worth taking.

Very caring professor. I met with her a couple of times and she was always accommodating. The negative reviews probably come from students who expected an online course to be easier than an in-person one.
