Valini Geer was a mediocre at best professor. Course outline wasn't accessible until the second week of class. Assignments were difficult to understand. Content and lectures were boring and uninspiring. Valini was very rude to students, and often stand-offish when students would ask questions. Reasonable marker though.
I was a straight A student before this course. How did community nursing drop my GPA? FIND A NEW PROFESSION VALINI BECAUSE YOU'RE TERRIBLE AS A PROF.
The communication between her and CCDs was not great. Her major assignment instructions were confusing and asked for a lot of content, but with a 4 page limit. Students were penalized for not explaining concepts further, despite having a large amount of required content, and a 4 page limit. Lectures were dry, with no incentive to go to class.
Valini is not engaging and puts the bare minimum into her lectures. Every week all she would do is read her PowerPoint verbatim. Everything she provides to her students is unclear, be it grading criteria or just course material. You can ask her questions, but she will only give a vague response. Would not take again, would not recommend to others.
Valini is the worst professor I have ever had. She is rude to students, doesn't want to answer questions and her assignments are very unclear. She does not give any direction to help you prepare for the final exam. I do not think she likes to see students succeed. Her lectures are VERY boring and she only reads off the PowerPoints which have errors
In the Top 3 worst profs in the program. Monotone, rude, disrespectful. Doesnt like to support students.
She is downright awful- extremely rude, unhelpful, and condescending. Her lectures are boring & useless. She is also a very tough marker and unclear with her grading. There is no reason for a course as common sense as this one to be made so difficult, Valini does this on purpose as she does not want to see students succeed in this course it seems
You will go into the exam knowing only 25% of your grade. You may think you are doing well but you could in fact be close to failing. You will never be able to figure it out because she takes eons to release grades. She is rude to students, monotone, and has too much attitude. She literally ignored students disabilities through lying and sneakiness
Lectures are useless, vague and very boring. She does not seem to care about the content of her lectures. Never provided clear instructions. The course did not help me grow intellectually. The way of teaching of Valini Geer made me think the course is a waste of time. Do not recommend taking this course.
The class is very content-heavy and requires the completion of all textbook readings. This is not specific to the teacher, but don't waste time going to her lectures for the course. She reads off her PowerPoint slides which miss half of the info on the tests. Also, be prepared to not know your grade until week 10/11, and get no email response!
Communication is not good. Midterm average was very low. Marks assignments very strictly without telling her what her expectations exactly are.
She is the most ever, all her exams are from the textbook readings, and one question on the midterm was from the lectures. Honestly just do the readings the three hours of the class was useless and boring. She will not answer emails as she feels she like not answering and never gives students a straight answer when they ask questions a
Disrespectful towards students, tough grader with no reason, uncapable to explain her own instructions. Making mistakes in her syllabus and blaming class for poor level of understanding. Behaves very rude. Unresponsive to her emails and contradicting her own instructions the day before. York Univ. should take a serious action on Prof. Geer behavior
The RUDEST professor I have had, wants students to be kind to her when she is not kind to them. Takes years to respond to emails. Is an extremely hard grader and doesn't justify why. Instructions for things are all over the place. If you're a student going to york into the nursing program DO NOT TAKE GEER! I promise you you'll regret it.
Do not bother wasting your time and going to her lectures, you will walk out of the class realizing that you did not learn anything. I would do other course work during her classes because of how useless her lectures are. She would be passive aggressive to her students and give her students so much attitude. She does not provide clear instructions
Learned nothing through her 3-hour lectures. Just buy the textbook and make notes on every chapter because the midterm and final were not based on the lectures. Don't bother sending emails unless you want to wait a month for a response. Get ready to redo your assignments as the criteria for them will constantly change due to unclear instructions.
This was like walking through a forest fire wearing a dress made of matches. She was very petty and inconsistent with what she required from students which may be a disadvantage to accessibility students including myself. I reconsidered pursuing Nursing after having her, no professor should ever inflict such stress and disdain on others. Upsetting
She is a maven in making students feel inadequate. I do not recommend if you are an accessibility student because it was extremely nerve-wracking. From the inconsistencies in the lectures to the extremely hard assignments, I can say that this was my least favourite class thus far. The people in the class made it worse. Disappointed but not shocked
This prof is terrible! Avoid at all cost. If you have to take the communities course for nursing, take it with Karen. Valini's lectures are extremely boring and she does not know the content herself. Her tests are difficult and lecture powerpoints are not helpful.
Very knowledgable and has lots of experience. Its a tough course with many components, but she gets what is important. Not a memory course. I liked it, and her style, she makes you think. If you want to sit and sleep, not the course for you.
Valini's class is very boring. She seemed like a nice person but was not. her test breakdown is not clear; at the beginning of class, she makes it clear that the test will be difficult. Her PowerPoint doesn't have much on it, so if you are depending on her lecture, please don't. get yourself ready to read the textbook.
The exercises we do in class are useless. Get ready to read the textbook and powerpoints and study for days to not even pass her exams. The questions are unclear and she gives no direction to students. I feel like I have learned nothing. Otherwise she is nice.
Very knowledgeable about real world practice. Grounded in professional practice and very experienced. Made academia bearable.
Awesome lady.
I really enjoyed this course. This professor makes it easy to connect to course material. Text book is boring, but her lectures are real world based.
Very grounded prof. Wants students to excel in the community.
Not an easy course, but if you put in the work you get it back.
She makes the course bearable, but the clinical experience is tough.
Lots of reading, textbook needs work.
Tough course because its heavy reading. Relevant to working in the community and she is aware of diversity in the classroom.
Don't let the readings pile up, not a memory course. Tests are fair if you do your reading.
She is fair. Tests are difficult if you don't do the readings. Fair assignments.
Very tough course, but sooo changed how I see nursing. It's a mandatory course and should be taken when you have a lighter course load.
Nice person.
She really wants to know what students think. She asks every lecture for feedback. Unfortunately, students prefer to complain.
This course has lots of work. Prof is cool, straight to the point, no extra fillers. Book is useless.
Prof was really helpful with the course assignment. Tough exam but she gives lots of info to prepare. She likes people who participate.
This is a super easy course if you do your readings. Tough tests based on readings.
Nice prof.
She is really smart, and wants her students to do well. She doesn't like fakers,
I approached her after class to discuss my grade, I thought it was too low. She really spent time helping me understand what I needed to do to get a better grade. Wish I talked to her before the assignment. I left it to the night before and bombed it.
Tough final exam. I thought I could get by with an all nighter.
Wish she taught more courses.
Tough course. Hardest one in first yr.
Prof is nice. Course is okay.
She tries to make the exam easier for people who go to class. Don't skip.
Cool person. Definitely calls out the Karens.
I think that the professor really likes to teach. she likes students and always chats with them, she should teach other courses.
Do your readings. ASK for direction if you don't get what you are writing about. She is easy to talk to. I approached her during the break in class, and she was really helpful. She likes her students.
Great prof. nice lady.
A prof for the real world. She tries to make the information interesting.
Supah Nice Ladeeee!
I think that the course is a bit dry, its theory...but overall not bad.
If you get her for community, then you will have a blast. She brings the real world into her class, really knows her stuff. This is her area!
The paper in this course was really easy if you know how to work in a group. She gives lots of comments in the paper so you know what you did wrong and where you lost marks.
Just to let you guys know, all of the sudden influx of positive reviews are written by the prof (Next time don't make it so obvious). See the first few reviews. I recommend reading the textbook because the slides essentially are not reflective of the midterm/final. Take time doing your papers because you won't get a clear idea of what to do.
Shes disorganized & I've never seen a professor like this. This reminds me of my middle school teacher. I do not recommend her for NURS 3510. PICK ANY PROF BUT HER. Clearly, she is writing fake reviews about herself lol.
Lots of fake reviews, look at the dates. Hard marker, is not fair at all in grading. The rubric she provides is absolutely terrible and gives no guide.
Papers are tough to write, but good feedback is given by her and marker graders.
She's decent enough but the material is boring. She mostly reads from the slides so honestly you're not missing much by skipping class. Curious how many 5.0 ratings she received, especially on Dec 1 and Dec 15, all written in the same style.
Very helpful person and will give extensions if you are in a bad way. Contact her early and she will help you out.
She will go through the paper with you and give you ideas about why you didn't do so good.
Very disorganized, literally created problems for my group and told us to figure it out. Responds pretty late, she responded a week and a half after i sent an email. Rubric was so vague, didn't understand what she expected from me. Boring lectures, literally reading from slides. Making the course harder than it should be. Avoid her
This is a tough course coz the material is pretty dry. The papers are not too too bad coz the feedback helps you improve over the year. She is a good prof, not much she can do with theory.
I worked my butt off in this course. She is a good marker, lots of feedback so you know where you go wrong. The marker grader barely makes any comments.
If you're going to take her, I suggest you read the book rather than go to her lectures. They're boring and you're not really missing much if you don't go. She replies late on emails and is unhelpful. She takes a while to get grades out for the group project assignment. Avoid or switch profs if you have her.
It's a pretty tough course because of all the papers. She gives enough feedback so you can ace the second one. The final exam is ok, study from her notes and the text.
The course material is boring but she honestly makes it even more boring. She's a tough marker for essay and group project and her rubrics are too simple. Exam questions are unexpected but I guess that's with any nursing course.
Theory is a tough course, but prof is good and I would recommend reading the textbook and lecture notes.
If I was to describe Prof Geer's teaching in one word, that would be "awful". I do not think she wants to be a teacher. In her own words: "if I win a lottery, you think I will be here?".
Fair tests and quizzes, encourages students to speak out and advocate for themselves as Nurses-- clinical part of community is interesting and no uniforms! Bonus!!!
Really knows her stuff and has really interesting guest speakers into the class.
Her teaching style is amazing. She delves deep into topics and the exams are based on lecture content. Would love to have her again in future courses.
I think she tries and help lots of students. Easy quiz after exam. Super friendly when you go one to one.
She never answer the questions. Do not even read emails properly. Does not even let u ask questions when u do a hands up. Never take her.
She is very helpful and will explain things a million times even when class asks the same thing a million times. One of the things she does is to go over assignments and to make sure eveyone gets what to do coz there is a lot of things to hand in.
She is very caring about her students. Will answer emails really fast, even on weekends!
Not terrible but not amazing. Midterm and in-person quizzes/assignments were easy, however her grading for the paper was questionable. The page limit was way too short and her feedback pointed out things that our paper was missing. How're we supposed to include that with such a short page limit? In the end many people didn't do good on it
Reasonable professor and gives a ton of feedback so you know why you got what you did.
Go to class because she really helps make the assignments easy with her explanations and examples. She is a good lecturer, you have to do the work and show up. Especially going to the class where the assignment is reviewed, that everyone skips because of tests, and then complain...Ha!
I expected more support for the amount of tuition I was paying, but I often felt discouraged from asking questions because she showed frustration when asked for clarification.Grading&explanations were unclear, and the course organization could be improved. One good is that bc the course wasn't so organized, you have a higher chance for a good grade
Great course. I really enjoy the approach, really interactive, no boring lectures.Lots of activities and good resources to help you along. Really approachable and will do all she can to help out. Course flow has many components so you have to keep up. Teaches you a good foundation for writing, group presentations, reflections and peer reviews.
Lots of work but a great experience for rest of program. It's not an easy course but you get a lot of feedback and structured to give you a good base for rest of nursing program.
Exam is decent, if you did the work all year. She is a no nonsense kind of prof. Really sees through the fakers.
Nice classroom discussions. Really interesting course and her style is super interactive. No sleeping during the lectures :)
Her lectures are boring and she was mostly just reading off her notes. Responded to emails promptly but with very limited help. Her marker, Sheryl Thorpe, is a tough grader and gave unconstructive feedback. Geer would support her back. The detailed requirements not mentioned in the syllabus are confusing like submission portal and stuff.
Super interactive classes. Lots of activities. Easy course if you go to class and complete weekly stuffs.
