Very unclear and without patience. Her pop quizes are a nightmare and she grades with no mercy on tests. Do everything u can to avoid this difficult teacher.
Can not understand. She doesnt speak good english and doesnt teach math very well
She didn’t care about homework and attendance. All she cared was test scores. If you are good at math, this class would be easy, but if you are not, don’t take it.

great teacher, takes her time to make sure you understand it. i suggest her to anyone who hasn't taken a math class in a while, she will get you back on track.
extreamly nice teacher, cares about you and the grade you get.
Val was a great professor. Although she was difficult to understand, the class was easy. She never takes off full credit if u got a problem wrong on a test..i have taken a few math professors, and she has been the best so far! I didn't study or do homework and i managed to walk away with a B!
Val was a hassle-free teacher. If you're having trouble, read a bit of the text-book and she'll help you understand. Not finicky about homework or attendance. She gives partial credit on the tests if you show your working out and just went wrong in one bit. Very intelligent lady.
good teacher
I really like this proffessor. despite what other people thought in this review, I think she has done a wonderful job trying to make sure that the class understands the work. As long as you try and ask a lot of questions, it will be worth your time. She will even give you points for trying.
Good Teacher, Hard quizzes and exams. If you have problem understanding people with a heavy accent this class is not foe you.
very interesting and easy going this was my second course and probably not the last
Good teacher... just a little bit hard to understand her accent... but is not such a big deal.
Val is a wonderful teacher, very easy going and understanding. She'll make your college experience much richer. Her testing is very fair and her grading is wonderful. Definately the best math teacher at HCC.
Val is an excellent teacher! She does have a slight accent but is easy to understand once one gets used to it. She covers the information quickly but well. Questions are answered and explanation are made until you are satisfied. She is very fair and offers quizes before tests for extra credit, and give credit for trying on tests. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Impossible to understand, whispers/extremely thick accent. Class was very full, front half of room could hear her, the rest were SOL. Explains things in too much detail/very boring teacher. Felt like kindergarten.
Val is a great teacher. She is pretty hot for an older lady as well. I loved her class, she is fantastic.

She is the best teacher I ever had. Very fair grading, clear explanations and reasonable tests. Yes, you have to study to make an "A". Not an easy "A" class.
She's very nice, ill give her that. However when it came to grades, she's a push over. The online homework is hard, but i finished it. However for those who didnt finish on time and still got a zero, the could go back and do the homework again, but she didnt give me any completion grade for mine
She is really nice but is not as prepared as I would like in my teachers. She teaches sections out of the book on the same day as the review and expects you to come to her office for questions. Her review is just a list of page numbers and problems you should study, half of which dont even appear on the test. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE NOT GOOD AT MATH
Good teacher, she teaches the concepts then goes through the book with examples. The tests can be tricky so as long as you study you will do good. Quizes are not bad and the review for the test does help.
COLLEGE ALGEBRA. she is an excellent teacher. first two tests, i got A's. Quizzes for extra credit. HW is easy on the cpu and u can easily get 100% and that is 15% of ur final grade. i'm taking the exam on wed, it's gonna be freakin easy.
She is by far one of the best teachers I have had at HCC. Her teaching stratigies are well thought out and she knows that she is doing. Quizes are extra credit and the tests are all fairly easy. I got A's on all 4 of them. She is willing to work with you and help whenever needed. A MUST TAKE TEACHER!
She is very nice teacher. But the tests are very hard. I love Prof. Val.
Great teacher.
she looks so cute

Very easygoing, and knows her stuff. She expects you to know everything from the previous classes, so if math is not your cup of tea, you might want to pick another class. Now, if you like math, she is fast through the subjects, she sticks to the basics, and provides all formulas on tests.
She was a pretty easy professor, although I can say leaving her class none of the math she taught stuck in my head. Be very careful reviewing your grades, she made many mistakes grading our tests and quizes! It seemed everytime she graded something, at least 3 people had mistakes on their grade.
Very good profesor
great teacher
She is a very good teacher. but her tests are very tricky and hard so make sure you know the basic math concepts or else it will be difficult for you.
she is a good teacher, explain every small detail, should take her class
Val is a good teacher. She seemed very annoying to me, though, because I already knew how to do the math presented in this class. She seems to encourage the class and the class seems to like her very much. If you're not good with math, she would be a great teacher for you, as she really likes teaching and will help any student when needed.
Not bad of a professor, but MathXL is a huge, huge pain in the bottom. It turned what should have been a 40 minute homework assignment into a 4 hour assignment. Her lecturing is horrible too. I couldn't understand what on earth she was talking about without having to ask over and over again. I would not recommend this professor to anyone.
I had a hard time understanding what she was teaching because of her thick accent.
She is just an okay professor. If you are not good in math or have a hard time understanding it, she may not be the professor for you. HW is doen entirely on MathXL.
horrible!!!!!!!!!!
Great teacher. Explains well. Test reviews are great. Lot of extra credit oppertunities.
awesome teacher. the best at HCC
Val is an awesome teacher. She gives 6 bonus points for daily work. Her reviews are very good.
Val is an efficient and capable teacher who makes many efforts to assist her students, with daily worksheets (worth extra-credit on the exam) and guided reviews. I especially liked her focus on the actual course material, so any algebraic sloppiness from poor or distant memory didn't count against you if the calculus was dead-on. Great experience!

she is really nice and helpful.
Hard to understand, not very interested in teaching at some times, very boring, and zero personality!!
She is a good teacher. Very clear. Sometimes she makes comments if you ask a question that she thinks is easy. She helps you anyways though. She says some funny stuff. Math is not a good subject for me so I didn't do as well as I could but she was still a good teacher.
Excelent teacher. She will help you to pass, but it depends on your effort. Nice little lady. She is always ready to respond questions. The secret is attend class and study her notes.
Very fair professor. Study everything type of problem she talks about and you will get an A. She is willing to help people if asked. Highly recommended.
At the begining it feels like she came from another planet. It was hard to understand yhe class, but once you adjust, everything it's greate. She is super fair and always willing to help. If you want to learn and are a good student, take her.
Excllent cal. teacher. she is very helpfull. i like her quize quations which is very challenging but its take home that meke it a litle easyer. as far as teachng she is very clear she knows cal. very well if u wanna become real Engineer take her. highly recommended smart techer.
A GREAT PROFESSOR! I took her for Calc I and Calc II, and she is THE MOST lenient grader. Partial credit is a big part of her tests! Will help you as much as you need, but will SCHOOL you if you think you know more than her! She is the Calculus QUEEN! Thanks VAL!
Prof. Mohanakumar is a great person but not the best professor.
great person but a BAD prof. had to drop the class. She goes really fast and honestly she does not teach. Trust me Don't take her.
She is a nice person, but it is hard to understand her. She goes fast, but she is willing to help you the best she can. This is not an easy A. You will have to work for it. I would not take her, but you can not understand her. I had to withdraw because of that.
Her On-Line Class is GRRREEAT! The Plato Learning System is wonderful, she is very sweet, and will be there 100% to back you up and help you in anyway she possibly can. I suck at Algebra and I ended up loving it now and understanding it.
I took her for college algebra honors. Great professor so nice!! Honestly, book is no need, she has one in class that she shares with everyone on the projector.Hw its only 2% of your grade but some of her test exercise are from math XL bc no one goes in it so do hw and you will pass with an A plus she has all her time for you and goes slow.Take her
had her for college alg. she is a sweetheart, but cant teach. she just writes examples on the board and has you follow along.. if you are good at math take her. if not dont.
I took her for college algebra. Shes great, you should take her. All you have to do is go to class, do homework and ask any questions you have. Shes always in her office if you need her during her office hours.
Her english is bad you cant understand her. Went though materail very fast, tells you to study questions from the book and quizzes and none of those questions are on the test. Honestly the worst teacher ive ever taken, and I am not saying this b/c I failed.
she is the worst teacher I have ever seen. She gives the hardest available questions. she thinks everybody knows well. dont take her unless you want to waste your time and money
This teacher cannot teach math. Yes she is nice and lets you come to her office. But puts questions on the test that are way more difficult than book problems and the problems she goes over in class. I am good at math and like math alot. She makes me hate the subject!!! PLEASE FOR YOUR OWN SAKE DO NOT TAKE!!! I swear to you its a mistake.
She is impossible to understand, and jumps all over the board making mistakes along the way while she explains things. do not want.
This online class was the BEST! I was nervous about taking an online math class after being out of school for 2 yrs. very easy. There are quizzes after each ch. you have 2 chances to make 100 a total of 27 quizzes but it has 8 questions each. there are 3 test and a final. I took my first 2 test and got 100!! Still have 1 test and the final. EASY A!
She is not a good teacher DO NOT TAKE!!!! FOR YOUR OWN SAKE.
Amazing Teacher.............. Makes you think... Is a university level teacher and will expain everything to you..GREAT TEACHER
Homework/attendance not mandatory, but highly recommended. Homework is worth up to 3 bonus points on tests. Partial credit on tests. Take-home quizzes are 10 Q. If you can do the quizzes and do the homework, the tests aren't too difficult, just time consuming. If score average of 90% or higher on quizzes/tests, you can skip final exam.
Decided to take this class online thinking it would be more convenient (Since I work full-time). This instructor expects ENTIRELY TOO MUCH TIME to be spent doing the homework/quizes/tests, due 3 times a week! Completely discouraged and would strongly advise anyone taking math online, not take her unless you want to spend endless hours working!
I took her online class. She expects a lot of work from you, but is very flexible with due dates. You will learn a lot in her class. You will have a lot of quizzes, test & hw, be prepared to spend a lot of time doing math. I like her very much and would recommend her for an online class and would take her for future classes she offers.Great professor
I took her course online (mathlab) and it was loads and loads of homeworks and quizzes, but it was all too easy. Her final exam was just a little tougher than all the other on campus exams.
GREAT TEACHER!! She helps to make the subject as easy as possible for students. She gives many chances and is a caring teacher with a big heart. I would love to take her for all my math classes. You must take her. Thanks Val for all your help !! :)
Well i have to say that Mrs.Mohanakumar wasn't a good teacher. When it came to reviewing for test she would go over easy problems and on the test it would the hardest problem ever, and for MathXL it made it even worse to try and learn how to do problems because the stuff she taught in class would be different on MathXL. Overall Class grade was a C
I loved this teacher!! Best math teacher i have had! She always finishes on time and explains all the material very clearly. She is very kind, sweet and patient. Definitely would help you if you have any question. You just have to study and practice in the Math-XL and you will do great. I got an A :).
My suggestion is have a tutor available because she only does examples. She does not explain theory very well, I am on the deans list for every semester prior and did very poorly in this class. Her tests are nothing like the homework. She expects answers in different formats than is expected on mathxl. which all of the homework is online.
I'm very happy that I took her class.Just doing all worksheets and note in class. You will do well. She will help you whatever problem you wantto ask her.
she used mathXl alot i loved using that made it more flexible. but if you dont keep up on easy hw then ull fail. but i loved it easy A
The class was challenging for me. She is a wonderful person but the way the class is formatted I don't care too much for. The test are not multiple-choice but you do receive partial credit for work done. I'm currently still in the class but all hmwk is done on MATHXL. :(
Super nice and helpful!
Very fast paced teacher when it comes to covering the material, she is an easy teacher if you are a quick learner
Though she is approachable, the examples covered in math xl (all homework is done via math xl) does not match problems in her test. She assigns loads of homework, worksheets, and test review . It's ridiculous, wish I knew about this site prior to taking her course.
This was my first online course and I got an A! You do have to spend some time studying, but if you need help she answers emails quickly and with great detail!!
Extremely helpful reviews for tests and homework. She's willing to help you understand anything if you ask. Some may be turned away by name, but her accent is very light.. she speaks easily understandable English. This fall, I'm taking her again for my next math. Highly recommend her! Only complaint is no symbolic calcs in class.
While a very nice person she is a bad teacher. One on one she is ok. To the class, she moves through material so quickly that no one can keep upand if asked to slow down she says we have too much to cover for that. Uses different terminology, formats, and difficulties than MathXL homework which is the only way you learn. No test reviews either.
Take her if you are already good in algebra. She moves through the material very quickly. I spent the entire class writing and was not able to truly learn while there. I ended up spending a large amount of time self-teaching with mathxl and by watching the videos over and over. She is very nice, but her accent also makes it challenging.
Great teacher, very easy to understand. She did have an accent but does no affect her teaching. No need for the textbook or to take notes, she posts all of the powerpoint slides online with her own notes. She will stop and explain any questions anyone has. There is a lot of homework to do on MathXL.
This is a fast paced class and I strongly suggest you keep up on your Math XL assignments. Not only does it count as a test grade at the end of the semester, but it helps reinforce what she teaches in class. Very helpful professor, but I wish she would have spent more time reviewing before tests. The reviews were kind of unorganized and rushed.
I am terrible at math but taking this course with MyMathLab and the study guides provided were very beneficial. Teacher is nice and approachable, she also responds quickly to messages. I ended up with a B. I would recommend this course if you are okay with a full online math course.
Very nice and helpful! The class maybe fast-paced but she answers any questions the students ask. She wants everyone to be comfortable with the material. She's the best math teacher I've ever had. I'm taking her again for pre-calc. Just do the mathxl assignments and she gives plenty extra credit.
This Professor gave all the tools needed to get a better understanding of the course materials, she responded to all communication attempts.
I AM NOT A MATH PERSON @ALL. . this was actually a second attempt because I failed it with a different instructor, but she's good. Mymathlab homework &quizzes count as extra credit &I did all of it &perfect attendance was extra credit too! She explains VERY WELL &I studied &ended up with a 94, me? An "A" n Pre-cal? HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER!!!!
Shes a very nice woman, and a pretty good teacher, but she has a very thick accent that can be tough to understand sometimes, but other than that i would probably still reccomend her
On the very first day the professor made it clear that she "is NOT here to teach" but to be "a facilitator". She moves through the material like it is a sprint to the finish line. When asked to slow down or repeat what she just went over she says there is too much material to go over and can't go back. She does not review for tests either.
She will go way above and beyond to help you succeed. She is one of the nicest professors I have taken at HCC. Very flexible. Gives quite a bit of online homework that is mandatory to pass. As long as you do all of the homework you will do fine in her class. Her tests are hard, but she gives partial credit.
Took her 4 college algebra, once I got use to her accent I was great. Pay attention, do HW and ASK FOR HELP if ure confused and u'll be good. If there was anything I didnt understand she explained it once I asked.
She is really nice and helpful. I've taken her class before. She gives you credit for work on test even if answer is wrong, which is good. Saw many students who didn't do homework or study then complain about grades, you get what you put in. Recommend not missing class if math is hard for you. Hard class in general because of content, not teacher.
I am a math whiz, or so I thought until I took this calc 2. She has the potential to be a good teacher if she would just SLOW down, and go through a problem throughly so that the students could follow the example. She goes so quick that when she makes mistakes she's just like.. "oh whatever, its something like that. Next."
Words cannot express how utterly fair and helpful this teacher is. Her tests are challenging, yet practical and she gives credit for work shown. She is very reasonable and understanding. She gives you a chance to tie up strings at the end of the semester. If you do the work, you pass. Math has always been difficult for me and I got an A!
Just take her. Super easy! Midterm & Final were easier than I expected! She curves the Final!
She really is a very nice lady but you can barely understand anything she says. the class was very easy to me but not too a lot of other people becasue of her accent. She mostly teaches Clac classes, so with my class in her mind we should already know the stuff she was trying to teach. And dont expect help if you dont understand something.
She is great. Just do the homework she gives in class. And your ready to get an A for her class. She explains everything in detail and is a very understanding lady. You guys should take her.
Unless you're just bad at math, the class isn't that hard. There's homework on each section on MyMathLab and a worksheet after each class for participation. Just don't procrastinate too much and you'll be fine. At the end for my class, she dropped 3 participation and homework grades (each) and gives extra credit for doing the test reviews.
Too much homework plus worksheets plus quizzes, her lectures are 100 miles an hour, sometimes she never finishes some problems, no test reviews, and I had a lot of questions but had to teach myself basically majority of course.
Much better than my last math teacher. You could tell she really wanted you to succeed; she dropped the lowest test and lowest homework grades, and you had multiple tries for all the tests. I took her online class and there was a bit of work but nothing that couldn't be handled. I'm awful at math and I got an A. Do the work and you'll be fine!
She is a good professor but be attentive in class because she explains things really fast. keep up with the homework, they are all due on test days. and don't expect a review before each test in class, you'll have to do that on your own accord ( she posts one online).
Took her for differential equations. She goes quickly in lectures but will answer any questions you have and is very helpful. Homework is given as a recommendation and is not collected (do it anyway). She cares more about seeing the correct steps on tests than accuracy, so she is forgiving with algebra errors and gives substantial partial credit.
I took this online using Aleks so I didn't actually "experience" her teaching. She was very clear on what she expected and deadlines. She drops the lowest objective and quiz grade. She also only counted 35/40 questions on the final giving you a little room for error while still being able to get a good grade
Ms. Mohanakumar is an excellent professor! Her expectations are clearly outlined and reinforced through out the class. There are is a lot of homework with MML but the majority of your grade comes from tests. However, if you have a 90% in all areas of the class, you won't have to take the final. Show up, do work, ask questions and you will pass.
The quality of her instruction is just impeccable. You will wish you would have had her for all your math courses.
Essentially if you are going to take her be prepared to take hella notes and to make sure you go through them after class because she blitz past chapters, but thats probably bc I took her during the summer. Calc shouldnt be too hard, review formulas and study on the little things that might trip you up on the test.
Though her class is very lecture and homework heavy, the content covered in the class requires speedy instruction. You buy a pack of notes for 10 dollars and she goes through them in class, question after question. At the end of class, your table completes a worksheet that counts as your attendance. Be prepared to use My Math Lab! Tests are easy.
She was truly a great professor! She does go through notes fast sometimes so make sure to have your pencil ready. Tests are the majority of your grade but make sure to keep up with homework and quizzes online! You have to be good at algebra in order to succeed in the class, dont miss too many classes.
She is wonderful. All her notes can be downloaded, printed and brought to class so that you spend less time writing notes and can better keep up with her. She goes through things fast but she is a lenient grader and gives a lot of partial credit. Her tests are hard but she is very reasonable with grading. I hate calc 3 but she made it bearable.
She goes over all the details, so be ready to take your notes. If you are someone who cannot focus on the lecture at least 90% of the time, she may be not the right one for you. However, trust me, she did a really good job at teaching. Math really matter in the engineering path, and you can learn a lot in her class.
She wastes no time in her lectures, so you need to take notes most of the time. But your tuition is worth in her class because you can really learn things, not just a good-looking grade. Think about the reason that you want to receive an education and be an engineer. Take her class.
This class was a retake class for me. It was an online class but you did have to work for it. If you were late with an assignment or test, instead of 100% grading, it was an 85% grade. I was late on some assignments & tests, but got a grade good in that area of that class. The exams are tough so study, study, study. She is accessible outside.
Her lectures are very fast pace and will need your full undivided attention. She will answer any questions you have and is very helpful during her office hours. She doesn't grade attendance but gives daily worksheets that must be turned in at the end of lecture. The worksheets are done in groups and are extra practice.
The term I took used a pilot program (Achieve) for HW, which I do not recommend for Calc. Mohanakumar is a decent professor, but can go a tad fast when doing examples, so if you are someone who needs all of the steps worked out, she may not be for you. Does very little to no review in class before the tests, so outside participation is a must!
Professor Mohanakumar is an amazing teacher. She gives partial credit on tests if you show your work, so if you make small mistakes she is very forgiving. Her teaching style is fast paced, but she explains things so that they are very easy to understand. If you are about to take a math class at HCC, I would recommend taking her class 100%.
She talks really fast, so you can't take notes in class or you will get lost. There is a lot of homework, but it is easy to do if you understand the topic. She does not let you finish your question, and cuts you off. Sometimes she gets lost while giving the class. In my opinion, I did not like this class because of her. I will not take her again.
I am horrible at math, so keep that in mind with my difficulty score. There is a lot of homework, but it's all due on the last day of class, so make sure you're self disciplined enough to not wait until the last minute. She doesn't make you buy books or programs so that was nice! She keeps you updated with emails as well.
Your final grade will be calculated from online assignments and tests (40%), midterm exam(30%), and final exam(30%). midterm and final are proctored exams 60% of your grade, unfair.
Professor does not answer questions clearly, teaches the entire course like it's a review. Skips steps constantly in lectures and has to be consistently corrected by students because she goes too fast. Makes it extremely difficult to follow because she works so quick. Stay clear of this professor, her lectures are a nightmare.
This professor is okay to me, she got a good manner. She doesn't go over test review much and not being clear when explaining because she goes over too fast. I have to self-taught myself most of the time. Spend time and do homework/quiz, good thing is the test is 20 questions from review, just different number. However, I'm not taking her again.
Great teacher, makes the class easy by making the exam questions exactly from the practice quizzes, just different numbers and fewer questions. I am awful at math and was very pleased to receive a B in a math class! She is super nice, I definitely recommend for trig/pre calc.
She was a good teacher, even extended the deadline for the midterm exam. However, she can be hard to reach out to. I had asked her a question and I never got a reply, another time I messaged her she did reply. So sometimes, you never know. Other than that, the class isn't based. If you're online, you're pretty much teaching yourself mostly.
This professor is really good. She has quizzes due at the end of every class which is pretty easy and just for attendance. The homework can be quite a lot but you still can complete it at the last week of the course. Her test are challenging but not extremely hard. Once you can complete her test review, you will be fine for the test.
Don't take this teacher if you want somebody you can get a hold of !she couldn't even bother did to respond to the majority of my emails and when she did she was short & rude ! She tried to make my class take our midterm two weeks early going against her own syllabus! T amount of homework is absolutely ridiculous DO NOT take this teacher online.
Shes awesome. Knows her stuff. Listens. Responds back. Extra credit with reviews and partial credit on exams. I took with zoom meetings so not sure how it is without, but with zoom meetings, her Calc 3 was my easiest Calc class by far.
Great professor. I have no bad comments to say about her
She dose not teach well she flys by topics and puts so many topics in one class dose not go over it and just expects you do understand and moves on to the next topic not giving you any chance to understand or retain the information
Professor Valsala, is a sweet heart. The class material are not hard, due to the fact that it is a combine class. Lots work are being put on your shoulders that don't give you enough time to study for the test. She make sure if you are struggling with something, clarifies everything with you. She set the class in groups which really do help.
I failed math the first time with a bad professor now I have another she is the worst professor I've ever had she doesn't make anything clear, when you email her she doesn't respond, and she gives you LOADS and I mean LOADS of homework, and she doesn't even know what shes doing please this is a warning DO NOT GET THIS PROFESSOR.
If you want to pass this class you will have to learn the content by yourself because the professor goes at her own pace.
Professor Mohanakumar has lectures in class that she reads off the text book word for word but she doesn't explain anything at all, you are expected to teach yourself. she puts all notes on 1 never ending page on onenote. Attendance is mandatory if you miss any days your grade will drop.
Wouldn't recommend her. She relies too much on the application Aleks for her teaching and the site itself does not have a good UI so you basically have to teach yourself. No room for things like extra credit but she'll accept late work within reason (like a day, point deduction though).
