Somewhat helpful at times, but always seems kind of stuck up.
took both of his accounting courses....good guy, decent teacher...knows what hes talking about but has a hard time getting his point across....ask questions
This professor does not know how to teach, but he does know accounting, which makes him a useless teacher, what makes it a hard class because you are basically on your own.
you know the guy on the clear eyes commercial? he was more entertaining then feller!
He is just soooo boring. His teaching style is so ambiguous and he doesn't communicate lecture clearly. Avoid him, if possible.
Feller is the best! I took Actg 181 and 182 with him, he's funny and I loved the classes, I recommend him to everyone!
HE is the most meanest ever!! He puts you down and says you wont be able to take his class! I had a hard time passing that jerk!! I wish i never took him in the first place...what a waste of time and money. His no good for nothing!!! take someone else like Crotoriu for accounting if u want to pass with an A.
He is the best teacher if you wanna realy learn something he is the right teacher.Yes, he is the toughest one and he had me read the book for more than 12 hours without standing ,adn yes for those who want easy grades he is mean , but for those who wanna learn something -HE IS THE TEACHER!
he is a very good teacher, all of u saying he's mean- you guys are lazy bums who thought since its community college you dont have to do anything oh well just as he says 'accounting isnt for everyone'
DO NOT TAKE HIM! If you have the opportunity to take Bonner, take her. It is hard to believe this guy is a chairman of the Business department. He is horrible. He won't teach you until there is like a month left of school. If you ask him a question he won't answer it. He's just all in all horrible.
Class was not that bad guys. Who else is going to give out extra credit just to bump up everyone's grade in college? We have to remember that accounting is difficult and everyone is not cut out for it. Feller made this topic less painful. I'd take him again. Got an A after all.
OK to take class with him.
He is a man of few words, but all the right ones.
Super nice professor. Very organized and on schedule.
Surprised theres so many negative comments. Guys pretty straight forward. Follows the book closely with minimal homework. Tons of extra credit to help people get the grade they want.
At first he seams tough, he is but its not as bad as you think. He shines through at the end. Dont forget your book at home nor your self. Not the most motivating but makes up with the extra cr points. Dont doubt your self i got a B while most of the time i was getting 69. Make sure you come in with tough skin.
Fantastic professor. Enjoyed his class.
Supplements become a necessity in this class, seeing as you will never come to understand say , Job Costing Systems based on his lectures alone, unclear. He will never give you a clear answer on a question or issue you have. Private tutors or google have to be consulted. Bring a stapler, he doesn't accept unstapled assignments on inclass assignment
Feller is a good Professor in being able to teach accounting. The only problem is that, if you're not reading the book or do not practice some examples from the book, then you will get lost. He gives extra credit here and there. Also, he doesn't give straightforward answers to your questions, usually you have to learn on your own.
Very good Professor. I enjoyed this class.
Feller is ok better than anyone else in the institution take him and do your work, take initiative he won't help much but I recommend him
He is kinda of annoying teacher but he is straight forward with his grading. it's actually pretty easy to get a B is his class if you go to class and do the homework. couple of people dropped out, but hang in there if you know the stuff.
Good professor.
Mixed review about this professor. As long as you read and understand the chapters, you will have no problems. However, do not expect much help if you go ask him a question. As some other people said, have some tough skin. I received an A for both courses, but felt pretty bad for the classmates that would get the occasional "Feller treatment".
As long as you DO THE READING and attempt the assigned problems before coming to class, then you will not be lost. It was the students who fell behind in reading who did poorly. Also, you must read the first 3 chapters at least 2-3 times and really commit to memory the basics of accounting if you are going to get through the rest of the semester.
Do your readings and assignments before going to class and you'll do well.
Excellent teacher. Right away tells you how his class is going to be. He knows that about half the students will drop the class and tells people the first day. The class is easy if you do the reading. He even prints out the notes for you. If you pay attention and read you will get an A easy as that.
"Let's give them hard time!"This is his motto! While he can make it easy he intentionally complicate the topics and enjoys having the students lost. Will never forget your negative comments, so be careful. Ultra sensitive who notices every act in the class as if it is against him or an attempt to mock him.
He's a nice person and expects you to be on time with assignments. He always ask if you have questions and if you don't say anything then it is your fault. If you miss one lecture you miss a lot. His grading scale is very fair--but don't expect him to just give you your grade--you really got to earn it. I like him using the white board to explain
If you study and show up at his classes you can pass the class.
OK Teacher!
The course entirely depends on the student. He opens the class for questions so if students don't ask, then it is their own fault if they fall behind. Keep up with the readings and DO ALL PRACTICE PROBLEMS given - quizzes and tests are based on them. Overall, average professor - doing well depends more on the student.
Feller begins every class by asking if anyone has any questions regarding the current material we've discussed. Although he works out problems, I feel that more examples should be given. He can be humerous at times. Reading and doing the asignments is a must
Good Class, The Teacher is helpful
Very good teacher , demanding
Read the Book, complete the work and you should have no trouble passing. He wants you to ask questions, he does not 'lead' the class but allows student to set the pace so ask questions or he will move to next section. Extra credit is given, if you are in class to get it... Overall easy class if you do the work.
Good teacher and helpful
He is an eassy proffesor, if you study you will do well. There is a lot of material to cover, so if you don't let him know that you don't understand a section he is going to move on.
He is a good teacher. If you are not a book reader thats fine just do the homework and examples and review vocabulary before quiz and tests
Make sure you keep up with the work or you will do bad. I would do the work before he went over it which helps a lot
Good Teacher. As long as you pay attention in class, do your homework, and review notes before the tests you will be fine. Hes a fun guy and leads a good class.
He gives lots of homework and extra credit. So please go to classes.
Professor Van Feller gives out notes for each chapter. Just make sure you read the chapters. He makes the the class fun as well!
Prof.Van Feller is very helpful, smart, easy going and easy to understand teacher.Econ 201 isnt a hard class if you are in class. Just read the chapter, keep up with homework and get extra credit points if you want to get an A. Some reading, simple graphs and high school math- thats econ 201
good teacher, lots of extra credit! course is easy if you attend class and pay attention.
good class. great teacher.
he's a cool TEACHER
He's a good teacher and he tries to make it simple so everyone is able to understand and he gives a lot of extra credit so everyone has a chance to keep their grade up.
great teacher
He is well structured for his lesson plans and is very organized. He is easy just make sure to do the reading he assigns and you should be fine.
The professor is very helpful with the understanding of the material. He prepares notes for you in order to focus more on class particpation.
Absolute worst teacher I have ever had. Doesn't care about his students or how they do, and does not make any effort to help them more. Does not answer questions, does not even allow them to be asked. If you have a a choice, do NOT take him. I changed my major because of him.
Professor Feller is neither bad or good. He drops the lowest quiz and test score and gives out a lot of extra credit. The only flaw is that he never does reviews for tests including the exit exam. So be forewarned.
This is the best professor that I ever had. He is going by the plan and program and never skips anything. He gives a lot of homework which is really good for a student to understand chapter easier. Class is fun and goes by really quick. Let me tell you this, I hate accounting but I actually learned something in his class.
He is an okay teacher. I would not take him again if I had known that I had to practically put aside other classes just for his class work.
One of my best teachers.
Easy grader he just wants you to read the material and post a reflection on each chapter. Class was challenging but easy at the same time. It wasn't too difficult just do the readings and you'll be fine. I recommend this class online!
Best teacher ever! Very knowledgeable and helpful!!!
Mr Feller is AWESOME! I had taken AP Econ in high school so I knew most of what was covered in this class. He was very knowledgable about the subject and is easy to pay attention to. He gives you time in class to do homework and his tests/quizzes are super easy if you read the book or pay attention in class. TAKE HIM!
Mr. Feller is very serious about the class. He goes over the chapter notes and leaves the reading up to the student. He is very thorough and makes sure you are learning by giving chapter quizzes. He also has a funny side and is not afraid to show it.
awesome teacher took him for bus 111 going out of my way to take him for bus 181. As long as you read pay attention in class it's a easy A. He curves all the test and quizzes you just have to make sure you get a 45% on the exit exam or you fail regardless of a A.
Great Professor, all you have to do is your work and stay on top of the class. He will help you through out the course. Pretty much available all the time by email
Very easy. Gives big curves. Shows how to make money. Drops quiz and one test. Gives extra credit. Gives group work and does not collect homework. Loves orange crush for some reason. Still trying to figure out why. hi-all.
Great teacher and very knowledgeable. Stay focused in his class and do the HW. He knows the grits about accounting and explains it to where it's understandable. The 1st few night's it was hard honestly could not sleep, but once it's stuck in your head, you'll never forget the material.
He explains the subject thoroughly. He does get annoyed when he calls on people and they have no clue what's going on (which is justified). However, he is available to help and always asks if anyone has any questions about the homework or what was shown in class. He always gives extra points for something. If you fail, it's really your fault.
He's a nice person, but he is absolutely clueless when it come to teaching. 90% of the class is completely lost, and he comes into class everyday and claims hes doing everything right and its all the student fault for not learning the material on their own. Well, if we could learn it on our own, we wouldn't pay money to come to class now would we?
Van Feller is a great professor. He is very knowledgeable, you will learn a lot in this class. The professor is very helpful and funny ;). You have to read the chapters and do the homework and you will get an A . Mr. feller is always there to push to succeed. I really recommend to every one to take his class.
If you do not read you will not pass. You really have to study and learn the material. This is my second time taking a class with Prof. Feller and I would definitely take any of his courses again. I ended up with a C but because I did not take the class material as serious as I should have. That being said, he's one my fav teachers.
Nice Professor!!
I am a total idiot when it comes to Economics and didn't think there was any way I would pass. Mr. Feller really helped me get through this semester. Econ comes very hard for me and he gave me tools to help me understand a little better. I didn't become an Economics genius but I passed the class and appreciated all he did for us.
Mr. Feller is nice and funny. To pass this class you have to work hard but you will learn a lot. You have to study the material, do the homework and the work group and you will be fine. I got an A in this class and i would recommend this class for every one.
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken figuring the teacher docent do a very good job of teaching. Expect to learn more from a tutor, and expect to teach yourself. I recommend looking for other alternatives. If you're a visual learner this isn't the class for you.
The class is lost most of the time and the teacher lectures for most of the time instead of writing examples on the board. Expect to learn more from your book. It is essential to make friends in the class so you can teach each other. I would recommend looking at other teachers.
I took Business 111 and Business 181 with professor Feller, I liked both classes very much and I think he is really good. The text books he chooses are very helpful and easy to understand. Even though the material of the course BUS 181 is heavy he makes it easy to understand with real life examples. I find him funny and easy going.
Great Professor! Make sure to read the chapters, study the material, and do the homework, as well as do additional practice problems. Very knowledgeable. He's tough but you'll learn. Make sure you participate, he gets annoyed if he calls on you and you can't answer his question...
This is a very poor professor. He barely teaches in class and expect you to learn on your own. If we can learn on our own than why are we paying you to teach us? Instead of inspiring students to get interested in financial accounting he is driving them away from learning the material by making it as boring as possible. Avoid him at all costs...
If you want a teacher that thoroughly explains the material he is not the one. He goes to fast and not enough time to grasp concept. He can be rude at times but he is straight forward. I used rate my professor to look him up before I took the class and thought it would be a good way to challenge myself. LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS THEY ARE ACCURATE.
I thought he was a pretty fun teacher. He definitely likes to call you out if he thinks you are not paying attention. Asks if everyone understands the lecture and will go back over whatever you have a question about. Should definitely be reading chapters and doing the homework and you'll do fine.
This Professor is horrible. He worries about him doing less work than us. He makes us read a new chapter and he makes us do homework for it, even if we don't understand it. He is rude sarcastic and doesn't care for us learning. He doesn't set examples, he just reads and makes us do work. He isn't inspirational and is making me doubt my major.
You definitely have to go to tutoring because he moves through the work so fast. I actually was able to pass the course, thanks to my tutor. He does grade on a curve, so you have a chance to pass his class. I accidentally took him for on line Econ 202, but it was much better on line than in person. I passed both classes with a "B"
Super easy class. If you put a little effort into studying you should get at least a B. He lacks faith in his students and isn't very encouraging, though. Some of his comments regarding the class' abilities were borderline insulting. If you're looking for a professor to inspire you, look elsewhere. But, he's an easy enough A.
Be ready to read a lot and do the homework because thats where most of the points come from. I liked professors personality, he always jokes around and explains tough material in understandable way.s I got an A just because I was consistent with homework and reading. Its a hard class to do badly in if you do the work
The only people who have something negative to say are those who are lazy. If you slack off, don't show up to class, don't do your hw, you're not going to get an A. There's a lot of material you have to cover for a short amount of time so you have to put in effort outside of class. "Surprise." I love his humor and teaching style; he's the best!
Van Feller is such a sarcastic professor. He does not care about the students and just flies by every chapter. His lectures are very dull and you can't ask a question without him complaining about your intelligence. If you read the chapters and study for the tests and quizzes, you'll be fine.
Professor Feller is one of the best professors this school has. He is very funny which keeps your attention. If you read the chapter like he assigns before coming to class you will be fine. If you are lazy and just show up then you will have no idea what is going on. Its a tough subject but he makes it so much easier.
took him online. NEVER again way to much work for an online class, better off going to class for this prof. Homework is excessive and very heavy point graded/
I would recommend that you read the book before class. The thing you definitely need to do is the paper that he assigns. Make sure you make a note of when you sign up for, and also go to every class so that you are there for the tests.
Doesnt actually teach. Tells you to do problems in the textbook and by a raise of hands asks if youre done or confident in your answer. If not, tells you to find someone that is. When you dont understand something, he tells you figure it out and acts bothered when he actually has to solve something on the board. I basically had to teach myself.
Wileyplus, you have to buy an online subscription and basically teach yourself the material. All assignments are done through Wileyplus and he doesn't actually grade or assign any of the work. Furthermore all the examples he does do in class are in the book. I don't see why I should pay them AND the school to do something I can do at home.
Do not take any of his courses. His teaching is bland and all over the place. He expects you to know and understand everything he talks about, and if you dont he will shame you in front of the class. He makes snarky comments throughout the class when students dont understand a topic and continually blames it on our attendance of a CPS high school
I wouldnt recommend taking any of his classes. He doesnt update you on bright space or let you know of any upcoming assignments. Hes getting paid to do nothing because he doesnt participate at all for our online course. This is the worst online course Ive taken because he lacks compassion and care when it comes to his students.
Very good teacher. He goes over the chapter from the book with the class and makes you do a lot of the problems so you can understand the material better. He goes over the problems after and explains how to do each step. He gives a lot of chances for extra credit. Prepares you well for exams, however, he does not give out study guides for exams.
Literally expects you to teach microeconomics yourself. He posts no lectures, offers no explanations. DO NOT TAKE HIM. This is an online course and I have no clue how to do any of these graphs. We only get graded on homework assignments which are full of graphs we were not taught to do. He does zero teaching. Took 4 days to email me back.
Yeah hes awful. I had emergency surgery in January of 2020 told him the night of. I had to be very careful and limit exposure since I had fresh wounds and could barely lift my laptop to class. He did not care. After I came back from missing two classes post op and didnt have two assignments done he had no compassion whatsoever. Worst professor!!
Avoid this man at all costs.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. He takes too long to answer his emails and he expect from you to understand everything on your own. No lectures, no zoom classes... The syllabus is very confusing and when you don't understand something his answer is : READ THE SYLLABUS. Pff, one of the worst, prefer to wait on a the waitlist on a another teacher rather than him
I would never offend or say something bad about a professor, but this guy shouldn't be a professor with all my respect.
The worst teacher ever, he literally doesn't care about anything and he explains nothing. He kept sending us emails every week reminding us of the homework deadlines. You have to literally do everything yourself, still surprised this supposedly called a " teacher " is kept by college principals. AVOID AVOID AVOID!! RUN RUN RUN!!
I feel like a lot of people get turned off by professor Feller because he really gets straight to the point. He doesn't really mess around. If you pay attention you should be good. He has a very clear grading system, drops a test, and gives some extra credit. All in all, I learned a lot from Professor Feller.
Honestly the biggest part of the grade is Homework, because if you don't keep up with the assignments, then they pile up and it gets hard to catch up and complete the lessons. They hinder your grade and are worth a lot of points.
An atrocious and terrible professor. A previous comment stated that he learned a lot from Vfeller!! How could you even say that! He never teaches anything, no lectures, no lessons.. So what would you potentially learn from this guy? Do yourself a favor and DON'T TAKE THIS GUY.
If you do not complete ALL MindTap you will FAIL. I completed every single paper and received 100% on all of them (4 papers+). I even completed EC & all the other assignments and still failed because I missed some MINDTap assignments! IF YOU DO NOT COMPLETE AN ASSIGNMENT EVEN IF YOUR MOM DIED THIS PROF WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO MAKEUP YOUR WORK!!!
What upset me most about this prof was that he did not allow any assignments to be made up. My family and I had corona and I got in touch with the professor and was refused any opportunity to make up work. There are a few papers and just MindTap so you are not being graded on much which sucks because if you miss 1 then your grade drops right away.
This professor is so far the worst prof ever! Im surprised of one review that said he learned a lot from the prof! VAN doesnt teach anything, no lectures, no zoom classes. Expect teaching yourself. He is unsupportive and dont care a damn about anything related to you. All good reviews are written by him so ignore them. AVOID THIS MAN!!
DO NOT take this guy. I didn't choose him btw, CCC did me dirty and switched my professor to this guy. He sucks at explaining and expects u to just know things with little explanation and barely any practice. Gives some curve points for quizzes and exams but you really have to teach yourself if you want a good grade. I'm in his class rn. RIP ME
Dear Professor Van Feller: The closing of Spring 2022 semester coming to a close. I just want to say thank you to my professors for a well-versed course instruction, patience, and dedication to teaching. May you have a wonderful summer following the final exams, and success with your future courses. Thank you very much.
Great class 10/10 :)
By far the WORST professor ever- even amongst all the CCC campuses. He always starts off the class by degrading students and practically calling them stupid and worthless while offering NO help to struggling students. Has no compassion, even during personal emergencies. Would never ever recommend him even if he was the last professor.
He is a big fan of busy work. From my experience, just do the work he assigns. they really do make a great impact on your overall grade. He also does go through chapters very fast so pay attention to the lectures.
I took this class during the summer semester, 8 weeks long and this was an asynchronous class. If you are able to keep up with the reading you will be fine in this class. Gives a clear explanation of what is expected and what you need to do be successful in the class. I found this time helpful in improving my reading skills as well.
He makes it interesting and easy to understand because he's passionate about business and teaching. I work full-time, and I'm a mother of 4. I would look forward to class because he made it a calm and peaceful experience. He's a great teacher! Also, his communication was excellent in class and via email and reminders for upcoming assignments.
I took my class online via Zoom, attendance matters A LOT, and he will go over the chapters. Take notes!! Make or buy a study guide "Accounting Stuff" on YouTube has videos you can watch to help with better understanding Professor Feller will also give you resources to help you.
Take Notes! I cannot stress this enough, he will give you resources to help you, and teachings are clear just take notes. make good use of resources and look outside of class as well there are YouTube videos that can help you. "Accounting Stuff" on Youtube is a great study guide/ help, you can buy the study guides from there too.
Professor Van Feller is a dedicated and highly engaged professor at Wilber Wright College - City Colleges of Chicago. Professor Feller to be highly responsive. He took an interest in me personally. He was sincere and someone who wants to help students understand the material. I would definately take another class with Professor Feller.
If you pay attention you should be good. He has a very clear grading system, drops a test, and gives some extra credit. All in all, I learned a lot from Professor Feller.
He explains the material better than the book. He does say to read to book when you can, but there's also so many resources for success like PowerPoints, videos, and lectures. Participation is key even when your wrong, there are in person assignments so make sure to go to class. The homework deadlines are reasonable but not that long for exams.
I took ACCT 181 this fall semester. The professor was cool and inspirational. Accounting gets so much easier with him! I definitely recommend taking classes with Prof. Van Feller!
This class was asynchronous, so I did all the work on my own. The quizzes on McGraw Hill were pretty simple if you read the chapters. The assignments on brightspace were just reflections of the chapters. As long as you do it, you should receive a good grade. The professor replies fast if needed.
Took this class asynchronously and did all the work on my own. It's a solid intro to business if you stay organized. Tests and quizzes are on CONNECT and are very straightforward and simple. Writing assignments are on Brightspace based on chapter readings. His grading is easy and not strict. I had a book issue, but he wasn't much help.
This was the ONLY professor available for in-person Accounting 181; this professor is awful in many aspects. Very quick pace. The professor likes to downgrade rather than help those who are struggling, narcissistically. If you aren't ready for a course that will be many times harder than needed, don't take this professor. Take an online course.
He uses a website he doesn't even know how to use.. He makes little comments in class that make you feel bad about yourself. He barley explains how to do things for assignments. He seems happy about dropping half the class and continues to tell the kids still enrolled that they should drop. Assignments also do not line up with lectures either.
Took an online course with him. The hw and quizzes were relatively easy. Not the nicest, but not the meanest. Easy to get in touch with. I wouldn't take another one of his classes.
When I first met him, I thought he was a good character that helps and understands his students. Turns out I was wrong because he was the opposite of that, petty, talks down about students who struggle instead of helping them out, and speeds too much from 1 chapter to the next. I recommend taking tutoring if his pace is too much for you.
