Explains everything to the fullest. Awesome professor!
Great professor, makes learning chemistry fun. I actually look forward to going to class even the though the class is not easy.
His teaching method is very fast. Homework does not match the test. Test material can be anything and usually is. His homework, lab, tests weights do not add up evenly. Tests scores are all the only thing important in this class. If you test well....then this class should not be too difficult for you. If you have test anxiety..not good
HIS NOTES ARE VERY HELPFUL & COINCIDES W/ HIS TEACHING METHOD. THIS SEM WE ASKED FOR A PRACTICE EXAM ONLINE AND HE SET ONE UP! THE PRACTICE EXAM MIRRORS THE TEST. DO ALL THE HOMEWORKS & LAB TO HELP YOUR GRADE TOO. THIS IS AN EASY A.
Mr. Lopez is helpful and avaliable to help when you need it. He is prompt to answer phone calls and he is helpful in homework and lab work. By far he is the hottest professor at SAC.
Mr. Lopez is great. He presents the material well and is fair. He is always willing to help and is very easy on the eyes. Best prof at SAC!
I did not want to take chemistry before i went in, I was really expecting the worst, but Mr. Lopez made the class so much fun and so interesting. I really loved him as a teacher. He also curves most of the test so that really helps. The homework is so helpful and really helps you to understand material, and the same for his notes. Great Prof!!
A very nice guy who seems to really like what he does. Lecture notes are good, lecture is fast-paced and interesting (coming from a Bio major who hates chemistry). Very easy on the eyes :P
Definately not a class for slackers. He goes deeper than the book and gets further than most of the other professors. Drops one test grade, but TONS of homework. Final was really tough and seemed like it was written by someone else. Always available for help, but many students felt intimidated by the way he answers your question w/ another question
Difficult class, made more difficult by a lack of clarity. He expects you to be on the same level as him and will often answer questions as if you should understand. He lectures from power-point slides that only marginally mirror the text book. There are huge amounts of homework, but lowest grades are all dropped. Very hard earned B
This professor is very helpful. He gives you all the information you need. If you attend class, pay attention and do the homework (tons of it) yourself, you should understand the material. Most did not like him. His sense of homur is different. His final seemed easier than his other exams. Without a doubt you have to study and earn your grade.
Horrible professor, does not return emails and dont bother asking for help because he can never answer you. Whole class was afraid to ask questions and when we did we never got a straight answer. He is moody, acts stuck up, and on a good day a little fruity. Glad the class is over will never take him again for anything!
Summer I class is not recommended if chemistry is not one of your strong subjects. You have to work to earn your grade. This class is not for slackers. I enjoyed his class. I would take him again.
I liked Mr. Lopez. He gave homework which was hard, but there was enough time to get help, and in the end it was better as a review and helpful with my final grade. There were times when I didn't want to ask questions because he had previously made me feel stupid, but I might have waited till the last minute too much. He is also quite handsome!
I took him over the summer. This guy was more worried about his vacation than teaching. He was hard to get help from. He might be better to take during the fall/spring semesters. He atleast had a sense of humor.
Talks down to students in my class who ask questions, albeit some are redundant but he is punitive in his response. He knows chemistry, might be better in tune working in another area (not acadamia); definitely not student oriented. Would not choose his class again.
He treats you like you are three years old and if you like being talked down to you would love his class. He misses ALOT of class and he has substitutes which help us out alot and when he comes back to take over we are lost because he teaches in such a bad, different form. If you dont need much guidance from a teacher, go for it, I WARNED YOU !!!
Good teacher! must read text! alot of test material was not gone over in class! easily available!
Great guy!! Our class had lots of fun. His door is ALWAYS open and will help you figure out the key seq. on your calculator, if you are like me and are to cheep to buy an easyer one. Chapter Readings are suggested and I would have done better had I read them. If I had studied more I would have got an A. I deserve my "B". WOULD TAKE HIS CLASS AGAIN!
Chemistry defintely not my favorite, but really enjoyed this class. Prof can seem a bit aloof, but always willing to help me when I asked. Others in the class didn't like. I'd recommend him. Do the homework, don't be afraid to ask questions and do well on the tests (there's a weighted average). I made a B, think I could have done better.
Despite the good looks and pleasant personality and fun and jokes in class, this instructor is useless. He is not helpful, his lecture notes (power point slides) are not of any help at all. He is only available for questions during office hours when he decides to keep office hours. He was out of class (i.e. jury duty, sick, vacation)for 3-4 weeks o
Mr. Lopez is the nicest teacher ever. He was always available during office hours for help, and would explain everything until you got it. The homework was hard and no fun but helps. You have to do lots of reading and studying to pass. I would def take him again!
mr.lopez was no help at all.made you feel stuopid if u had a question.lectures were never clear.i do not recommend him at all.unless u like to be self-taught then go for it. you have been warned.
Good teacher but no care or whatsoever for the student. Treat student as just an object to teach .. either you learn or not he will never care. I started with an A in his class and end up with C ... he won't give you a wake up call if your failing ... all he care is he teach .... earn his salary you learn the lesson or not ...
Very hard teacher..you can easily get 100's in the homework, quizzes, and labs, but the exams will whoop your butt!! I had 100% in everything, but would get 70's on my exams! Study hard and find a study group...you will need it! Also, he doesn't really care about you,per se...just in completing the 9 chapters...so study every night!!!
Worst prof. ever. He doesnt care about anyone but himself, and if you ask any questions he makes you feel stupid. Gives practice exams that are not even like the tests and will not help at all to try to improve your grade. I have never worked so hard to get a B in my life. Would never take this prof. again.
Basically i feel like i paid $XXX to teach myself chem sometimes. Took for SUMI class canNOT afford to miss ANY lecture. If u dont understand a concept during lect. & dont ask then, tuff luck cuz he wont explain it later. he'll just tell u to look @ ur notes again. The online tests are worth 70% of ur grade, & online hmwk is not too hard. good luck
aweful. talks super fast, and doesn't answer any question. If you wear short shorts and show plenty of cleavage, he may curve you. some got curved and others didn't.
he's awesome, helpful and very clear and funny, i always tried to pass chemistry but never could. but he's so helpful and WILL answer emails and whatever you need. i love chemistry now and so excited about medicine. so take him if you want to LEARN chem, not just pass!!!
Mr. Lopez is a lively and engaging teacher. He answers questions in class and is more than happy to work problems on the board to clarify any issues. He makes his notes available online, so reviewing them and completing the homework should set you up to do well. He's taught me to love chemistry, something I never thought I would.
CANT MISS CLASS>If you end up with a passing grade, you will KNOW thoroughly chemistry to the point where you can tutor it. The only problem is that he Weighs his tests 70% of the entire grade.LABS 10% HW TOTAL!=20% its BS!It leaves VERY little error for mistakes on the tests. if you miss one written problem, it can drop your test one letter grade!
I was so scared to take this class, but instantly fell in love with chemistry! The class is difficult, and you will need to study, but Prof Lopez will help you any time you have questions. Do all of the homework and make sure you understand it and you will get at least a B. Gives progress reports so you know where you are. Loved the class!
Literally, will have you do what he wants in order to get an A. Awful, caution ladies, do not be alone with him.
Probably the most difficult class that I've taken in all of my college career! Wow! I am an A student but took this class in the Spring and my grade dropped to a B because of the difficult tests. He made half multiple choice and the other half written out. If you miss one ques, it could drop you a letter grade. Watch out for ch. 9 & 10!!!
This class is not easy- but it is because chemistry is not easy. I took this class during the last spring semester (09)and I got an A. if you want to make an A doing homework and reading his slides is not enough- YOU MUST READ THE CHAPTERS, and that's what he said at the beginning of the semester. Besides that he's very helpful, clear and funny.

He has a sense of humor and isnt a stiff unless ur afraid 2 ask. I recommend him highly but ask questions and expect sarcasm. It could b worse.. generally classs does move quickly but everything he teaches can b learned in the book and his lecture notes (slides). B mindful about the tests they incorporate everything over the semester.. SIG FIGS! :p
First things first, If you're going to make an A in this class you're going to have to be a female. Lets just say he's a much better biology teacher than a chemistry teacher. Don't pay any attention to any of the good comments on this professor! It's just him on an ego trip going on the website giving himself good reviews.
Chemistry was a hard class.I recommend him highly but ask questions and expect sarcasm. My biggest problem and he will not change it - is that on the day of an exam, he will do lecture first on the on-coming chapters and then the exam. READ the BOOK.... and do many many practice questions and you will get an A or B at least.
best teacher ever had!!funny,hot guy!!
Do not take this teacher!!! YES he was funny and very sacrastic but his class is ridiculous!! His test count as 70% of your grade. Gives alot of hw but goes over most with you in class. Lecture notes,hw, and tests are ALL from different internet sources . His tests are very HARD, they're nothing like his lectures or notes!!
Some professors want to help students succeed, Prof Lopez is not one of them. His practice exams are nothing like his actual exams. He seems to take pleasure in being a jerk. I would recommend avoiding his class if possible.
Professor Lopez seems to make the material harder than it has to be. His lecture notes are horrible and does not give enough examples. He goes way too fast and gives alot of work. The lab are long and dreadful.
I have I do not do well easily in classes but Lopez is a great professor. He gives HW assignments that are tough and require effort, but after doing them you know the material. Labs are great because he doesn't let you leave with out a grade of 100. Lab quizzes also easy 100. With HW, Lab, and Lab Quizzes, lower test averages dont hurt as much.
Took him for Summer I Chem 1405. Teacher is extremly helpful!! Always answers any quesions you have during class. He even asks students during class if they want examples done on the board. Labs were a bit easy. Just show up to every lab and you get a 100%. I would definity recomend this teacher for someone that is needing a Chemistry class.
Mr. Lopez is a great teacher. He is super helpful and very funny. I took him for Summer 1 and I got an A even though the class is hard he made it very easy to understand. He even gives you his phone number if you need help. I would definetly recommend him to anyone needing Chemistry
This professor must of been picked on as a child. He is mean spirited and enjoys watching students suffer. He gave me a zero on a test because I forgot a scantron sheet. I can understand losing points but, let the punishment fit the crime!
Prof. Lopez is an awesome instructor. He makes chemistry fun and easy and the people making comments about having to be female to make an A are obviously students who did not want to put in the effort required to make an A. Do the homework and assignments in the book and attend every class and you too can make an A.
Mr. Lopez is a really great teacher! Although the class itself is tough, he provides plenty of help via text or phone. He makes the class fun and interesting... by far my favorite class. Definitely recommended!
Professor was not bad. The class was hard but he was available to help with work pretty often. Lady students beware, his office is very private.
Pay attention, memorize what he tells you to(metric system & such,do the HW over & over you will get an A. I got a B, mainly because I was taking Anatomy II(A) & Nutrition(A)at the same time & a mom of 2 young boys & have to take care of 2 sick family members I only had time to go over it once before the test with more time I could of gotten an A.
Mr. Lopez is very good about always being there to answer questions but he always answers your question with a question! Honestly the class isn't very hard, but if you take him for maymester it is very fast paced! :/ Take him during a regular semester and you should do fine! He drops lowest test grade and lab grade and HW grade!
He is a wonderful teacher! I took him for maymester and recieved an A. As long as you do the homework you WILL pass the class. He gives wonderful notes as well. Very helpful and ALWAYS availible to answer questions even outside the classroom! I would definately recomend him and take his course again!!!!
He is a wonderful teacher. I took his class for maymester, extremely fast paced. As long as you do the homework you WILL pass the class. He gives wonderful notes as well. Very helpful and ALWAYS availible to answer questions even outside the classroom!
This class is super hard. He does not review anything for the test.
I have never worked so hard to get a B in my life. Would never take this prof. again.
He doesn't give extra credit on the exam
Very hard teacher..you can easily get 100 in the homework, quizzes, and labs, but the exams are too hard..no multiple choice for the conversion part :(
Would not recommend to anyone! His test are hard. Makes you feel stupid in tutoring...Requires you to have power point slides ready, notes, and book before he even goes over any questions you have. His lab exams are nothing like his hw. In the beginning of class there was at least 20 students and at the end there were only 8 that didn't drop.
It's college. Study, work hard. Bonus points? You kidding?
Hardest professor ever!!!!
Just be sure to look over your material before hand. He expects you to be prepared! This is a good instructor.
He is good.
Average! I might pick this instructor again next semester.
I found it very rude of him to tell his students that they would fail and they need to change majors! His test were nothing like he said they would be. It's almost impossible to take his test in 50 mins with 4 conversions and 30 multiple choice. His lecture notes are not helpful and the book was not required!I would NOT recommend him
He has issues, it's clear that he is NOT a people person. He is not understanding at all & when you have a question, he makes you look/feel incredibly stupid. He is a pointless "instructor". I would NOT RECOMMEND HIM AT ALL!!!!!!! I made an A (w/no help from him), but I still find the need to warn students: He's rude, condescending, & conceited.
Great professor but he won't just hand you a grade. Imagine starting from zero and working YOURSELF up to the number you get...Do the homework over and over and practice ALL quizzes before EACH test! He will help you get into the habits that you will need for Nursing School. My favorite class.
His class is extremely difficult. His test are nothing like the HW, or lecture, he is not very helpful during office hours. No matter how much work you put into this class it will not pay off. Only 9 students made it to the end of the semester & no one made even made a B. I am a straight A student and I made a D. I would not recommend him at all.
I am in his class right now and at first I hated this class but now I don't mind it. He is a good teacher and puts things into simple terms and not chemistry terms. Chem isn't an easy class and he gives his students good habits to use in nursing school.
The class is very hard but if you study a lot you will pass. Always print out lecture notes ahead of time. Do the home works he wants you print out. He drops one lab grade, one quiz grade and one test grade. You have a quiz each week so make sure you study. He is helpful if you want the help. The labs are easy the tests are tricky. He is sarcastic
He is a very good teacher! He puts everything in simple terms and gives you the tools you need to make a good grade. Every lab you make a 100 and he gives hw to practice for the tests. Most of the test questions are straight off the hw. He is very sarcastic but very funny. I would definitely take him again!
He's good. I'm currently in his class and actually look forward to going to class. It's hard but practice helps a lot! He gives you everything you need to study it's up to you to actually do it
He locks the door the minute class starts which is annoying. Attendance alone dropped my grade a whole letter grade. The class itself is fairly good, he posts his lecture online & hw on schedule. Makes it pretty easy to understand. He talks to you like a kid though, other than that his class is fairly easy to pass given you listen and do the hw
If u are the type of person to show up 1 min late. Don't bother going to class. He locks the door as soon as class begins and doesn't care if your right outside the door! Test are not like the lecture notes and is a hard grader, no extra credit given. He says he is available during office hrs but when you go, he rush's you to pick up the material.
Do not take this professor he is horrible he insults his students he is not helpful at all his invitation to come to his office during office hours for help is a joke cause he refuse to help you. If you dont understand his lecture he tells you to get another career.
Plan on spending all your time teaching yourself the material. He'll answer questions but he's not very helpful. Don't skip any classes, every lab is 100 as long as you show up. Take the quizzes and tests seriously, he doesn't give much of a review. Drops the lowest quiz and test grade. He's okay, but try to find someone better. If not, good luck.
He definitely is a hard ass when it comes to attendance but it's something that everyone needs to learn anyway. He's funny and a little out there but it's nice! Also, he goes through his lectures pretty quickly but if you need him to explain stuff more before moving on, he will. You just have to stop him and ask. I would take him again for sure.
I'm in his class right now, he is big on attendance. He locks the door as soon as class starts, which can be a pain in the ass but I think it is good. It teaches you to be on time. He is hilarious. He does respond very quickly to emails.
Attendance matters he doesn't care for your excuses lab was very easy for homework you would print out worksheets and he would give you the answers to check your work you never needed to turn them in but you had quizzes once a week NO extra credit but he would help you if you came to him during office hours
Skims through his powerpoints in class. Pay attention because it's easy to miss information. Print out the powerpoints and review chapter before going to class. Quiz every week will make or break you. Do NOT skip class. Doesn't open the door if you're late. Plan on teaching yourself the material, and spending all your time on his class.
He grades pretty tough, you have a quiz every single week and makes tests difficult. If you show up a minute late to class, he locks the door and doesn't let you in. If you skip class, your grade for attendance drops significantly. DO NOT USE YOUR PHONE OR LET IT GO OFF. He did not show up for our final, which I thought was super unprofessional.
This teacher was so confusing on what he wanted us to learn. The main problem is that the HW from the book and his HW are completely different. To pass his class u have to do hw his way and not how the book teaches you or else you will fail his class. And missing a class or being tardy like 5 times auto F, and kicked out of class for good.
Not helpful at all if you want to actually learn chemistry take another professor. he is not interested in helping his students. He is rude his homework is worth less it will not help you at all, and his powerpoints are only a little helpful. He has a lot of rules that will fail you, but nothing in place to help you pass.
his grading system will make you fail, I would never take any class with him again !
The exams dictate your grade despite the lab work. A LOT of memorization is required for passing. Lectures make everything seem easy but the instructor will walk you through a question if you're having trouble. This is a very challenging class so effort is required. Good luck
Don't let the other reviews keep you away from taking this professor! 3 exams, 1 comprehensive final and he drops the lowest test grade as well as lab, which he doesn't give exams for! He explains topics really well! The HW does not count for a grade but DO IT, it makes such a difference when you've had practice. Also, quizzes for extra credit!
Tough grader for sure, will cover the material but one on one talks down to you. Prone to lose assignments before he grades them
Took Lopez during the spring of 2016, beware exams are all MC and small math portion. No partial credit is offered, its all or nothing. Tests are curved though... All labs are a 100 if you do as your told! He's very nice and funny in class. If you get 5 or more questions right on quizzes, he will add 1 point to your exam grade. (all quizzes).
Overall not a terrible class. Quizzes are extra credit, tests are all MC with a small math section. Questions on the test are all or nothing, no partial credit. Labs are really easy, always gives 100s as long as you show up. Some of the labs you can even complete before class time. Puts hw and labs on canvas so you dont need to buy anything
Lectures are a bit fast paced, but all the PowerPoints are very thorough. Homework is not graded but definitely helps with exams. It's not easy but it's definitely possible. Absolutely recommend taking Proffesor Lopez.
Took Professor Lopez Spring 2018 for General Chem 1 and his class was a breeze. If you do the hw and actually understand it, youll be fine on the test. He drops your lowest test grade and gives extra credit. I wish he taught Chem 2 :(
Only grades are three tests and one final. Labs wont boost your grade very much. Dont bother asking him questions because all he will respond is go read my PowerPoint. Seems like he only shows up to get his paycheck. Does not give any reviews. Do not take him if you want a good grade. I am a straight A student and received a high C.
You have 4 assignments and they are all lectures. He uses quizzes for bonus and gives curves. Lab grade won't really help in this course His lectures are fast paced but very well put together. Study study study is the key. He is okay can be sarcastic but not a bad professor.
