Great teacher. His tests are hard, but I feel his classes learned more than other chem classes. There are also assignments, and quizzes to balance out test grades. I would take classes with this professor again.
His test are hard, but he teaches so good! He does a lot of examples and provides good notes. If you're looking for an easy A, this isn't the class for you. You do learn a lot in his class. Very good professor
This teacher is overall good! If you're really good in chem. He makes his test really hard on purpose & then likes to brag about them being hard. He's also very sarcastic.. Sometimes when you ask him a questionn he will not directly answer it. He seems to forget this is just chem 1 and not 4!!!!!
His notes are very good and organized. The homework takes a bit of time but he gives you plenty of time and you can work with classmates on the assignments. His tests are slighly hard, but chemistry isn't an easy class in general. If you don't have to take chemistry, I wouldn't recommend it. He's a great teacher though, taking him next semester.
Dr. Quach is both very knowledgeable and a gifted teacher. Would highly recommend him or Dr. Summers, and to stay away from the others for a quality chemistry education. Extremely clear in lecture and on what is expected;is very approachable once you get comfortable with his friendly sarcasm. Challenging but get ready to learn! Good experience.
Dr. Quach is one of the funniest professors you will every have and once you know him is very approachable. The class requires work and the test are hard. He grades very fair though and has tons of office hour as if lives at the school or something. Highly recommend you form a study group that meets once a week or more to help you get through.
He really is a great instructor. He's not easy but thats just bcause he wants to make sure you learn the concepts. Great sense of humor and made class fun. Gave alot of extra credit opportunities. The only way you could've failed is if you didn't try much.I "heard" he's brutal in chem 2 but his chem 1 class was fun for me. Not bad looking either :)
Amazing teacher! Moves fast in lecture but often asks if anyone has any questions. Extra credit makes up for tricky/difficult tests. Very helpful/calm/attentive lab instructor. Good natured during office hour help. Explains concepts well, could use more examples imo. Grades carefully/fairly on assgnts/summaries. Learn to write a damn goodlabreport!
Great lecturer but his sarcastic sense of humor comes across as arrogant and sometimes downright rude. Horrible in lab, just texts all day. Treats female students differently than male students. Grades very fair, puts extremely generous curves on tests, but lots of assignments. Overall good but could be amazing if he would just lose the attitude.
This is not an easy class. Dr. Quach, however, teaches it well. Show up, pay attention, and take notes. Do you work for the lab and the classroom. He is a very funny teacher, but serious about his work.
Very cool instructor, but his exams are extremely hard. He does give a lot of extra credit, so it makes up for the difficulty. Also, he is very helpful if you go to his office hours. Do not take other classes that are difficult, if you plan on taking Dr. Quach. This class will require a lot of studying! Good luck!
GREAT in lecture. Gives so much extra credit! Do it all and you won't have anything to complain about.
He is a great professor. He gives plenty of extra credit, it is enough extra points to raise your grade two letter grades. I had him for Chem 1 and he was also great in that class.
I am thankful for Dr. Quach. This class involves a lot of studying and HW on MasteringChemistry.com. IF you put your time into the class you will do OK. There is extra credit on each exam as well as if you do every HW. I absolutely recommend him. I however, do not recommend taking a class that involves this much knowledge in a short 6 week period.
It's a hard class. I would not recommend taking him as he doesn't make it any easier.
Most students are going to say he is the most difficult teacher in the chemistry but he's actually going to teach you. He will give you all the tools you need to succeed but he you have use them. study for the test that he gives you study guides they are exactly like his exams. I would totally take him again... and he's man pretty k good luck ...
Professor Quach is a chill guy. He's brilliant with chemistry. However, he wants to make sure you understand the concepts and how to do the work. This class on its own is already pretty demanding, so don't expect a cakewalk. His tests are, for the most part, challenging, but he is extremely forgiving if he can see how you came to your answer. If you are planning on going on taking sciences that build on a solid foundation of chemistry, definitely consider him, because these concepts will stick.
Dr. Quach is amazing! I wish he was teaching Organic. He is the only gen chem professor worth taking. He is tough, but will help you out in the long run. There is a lot of extra credit. If you have a question he will get back to you right away, and he always has office hours.
He is a great teacher. He knows a lot and has extensive office hours. He is nice, kind, and helpful. He averages lab, test, quiz, homework, lab reports, and practical to final grade which is helpful. He could have a better control of the class. There was a point when some students bullied others and that was difficult to swallow.
This class is definitely not easy, and Dr. Quach makes you work for your grade. The tests are a beast, but if you do all of the homework, pay attention in class, and DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS you should do just fine. He gives lots of extra credit, too. If you are looking for a challenge, then Quach's Gen Chem II class is for you.
Quach is a great professor, explains very clearly, very helpful also, but his exams are extremely challenging, specially considering this is already a very difficult class. He provides extras which help tremendously but will only be awarded to those who got at least 50% in th final. I recommend him ONLY to students who are serious about Chemistry.
This professor is HORRIBLE! The prior tests that he gives u as a "study guide" are completely different from the real test!! His tests are ridiculously hard; he does give u extra credit BUT if u pass the final with 50%. The final is chem 1 & 2. Super hard!! He tends to have an attitude with students. If u want a good chem teacher look up Spears.
This class is really difficult. You must put your all into this class. If you are taking other classes and this isn't your focus, I don't recommend it. He is temperamental so asking him questions are kind of scary. His tests are super tough, and the study guides don't help much. If you don't know chem beforehand, this class will be tough.
Dr.Q is a great professor. He can seem intimidating at first, but if you put the effort into studying and asking questions he will loosen up and you will understand the material better! He enjoys questions and feedback! As long as you stay interactive in the class he'll respond positively. He can go a bit fast, but THERE'S A LOT OF EXTRA CREDIT!!!!
Great teacher! He works very hard to help the students. The class was not easy, but it was reasonably challenging. Definitely recommend!
Professor Quach is an AMAZING teacher. He takes his time to clarify what you don't understand. The homework on MasteringChemistry is waaayyyy different from the material he actually teaches in lecture, but is great preparation for his exams. He has plenty of resources to study from and gain practice. There's also extra credit opportunities! STUDY!
As a newbie into the Hon program I needed honors credits and science credit as well and this class was recommended BY FAR hardest class I have ever experienced He goes so fast is not clear and is not the easiest to approach His tests are always insanely hard There is no book so anything he tests on is lecture based and are free response Good luck
I took the course in 6 weeks during summer B. Like any chemistry course, you must put the work in to get the grade you want. I would HIGHLY recommend Professor Van Quach. He is by far my favorite science related professor out of all the course I have taken. You can tell he enjoys his job and wants to help all of his students as much as he can.
Taking Dr. Quach over other professors was by far the best decision I have ever made. His lectures are fun and interesting. My upper division chemistry courses at UCF are made much easier because of what I learned in his classes. A is possible with sufficient effort. His tests are difficult, but offers ample extra credit. A MUST TAKE AT SSC.
Took Quach for chem 1, and it was one of the best decisions I made. Yes, his test are difficult, but the extra credit is a good buffer. It's chemistry so don't expect it to be a walk in the park. With the right amount of time and effort put in you can definitely pass and an A is possible. His quizzes very are helpful to prepare for final.
Quach's class is very difficult, especially the tests, but you will learn far more than with the other professors on campus. I would highly recommend taking his class if you are looking to major in anything science related, since the difficulty will really help you understand if you apply yourself. He also gives tons of extra credit opportunities.
Even though he was a tough grader and the test are heavy, it would have been easier if I studied. But it is a fun class you get to eat some cool science-y stuff. Everything is related to fun so you eat and learn science.
He is a great professor. Just listen to the lectures and study hard.
he is one of the toughest graders ive ever seen in my life. he would be very mean with you and makes you hate chemistry. he doesnt provide any materials that would help you study he just make you buy the book and use mastering chemistry. he is a good teacher when it comes to lecturing but if you missed a day you will miss alot. i wont recommend him
Quach is a VERY tough grader but he is treating you like you are already a chemist doing your own labs. He gives a good amount of extra credit and also gives old exams that he as given as a study guide. Exams are difficult but if you study and do mastering chem you'll do fine. Very quick grader.
Professor Quach is very knowledgeable but its important not to take his sarcasm or criticisms in the lab personally. He grades fairly, though is harsh on the two formal lab reports. Pay attention to due dates. Grade on final replaces the lowest test score and there is enough extra credit from the daily quizzes and homework to bump you up a grade.
Not going to lie. He is a very tough grader and comes off a little intimidating. BUT he will help you if he knows you are really trying. Make sure you do all the assignments because they will definitely help you pass. There is a lot of extra credit. The material is really tough and he does try to help you but he also expects you to know a lot of it
Quach is an amazing professor. He really cares about your learning if you show him that you are serious about your goals and aspirations. Do all the class work and homework and cross your fingers are the exams.
He connects how chemistry applies to every day life often in lectures with videos and other examples. Most tests have quite a lot of extra credit on them as well as extra credit from the daily quizzes. Lots of online homework, but doesn't weigh heavy on the grade. He also plays music in lab.
He is an amazing professor, and he cares about students. However, you need to work hard for the class. It is not an easy A, but if you worked hard an A is possible. Take him if you really want to learn.
Not the best would recommend another teacher.
Do yourself a favor and just take Quach. Best way to pass: know how to do the equations on the practice sheets he gives, make sure you understand the material before those hard tests, if not, ASK! (he's very nice and happy to answer any questions you have), go through the text and do those practice problems as well. Just study those and you'll pass
It's clear that he loves chemistry, but when it comes to teaching and giving lectures it felt like they were all over the place. Be ready to write as much as you can as fast as you can because everything is either given on the board, or through confusing worksheets that you'll probably never get help with.
I have never been good at understanding chemistry but professor Quach made it easy to learn. He simplifies the material in a way that is easy to understand. Very willing to help you out and explain everything. Tests are a little difficult but if you use the past exams to study you'll be fine. Overall I recommend professor Quach 110%, TAKE HIM!!!!
DON'T TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If u wanna pass this class DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! He has favorites and VERYYYYYYYYYY hard tests and VERY tough grader on lab reports!
He's a good teacher but is a very tough grader especially when it comes to lab reports. He like to play music during lab. He gives some extra credit so it is possible to pass his class but be prepared to work hard.
He makes it obvious he loves chemistry and explains every topic in a very complicated way. Get ready to write as fast as you can since he goes really fast. Extremely tough grader on lab reports. He's nice/laid back but his course is very difficult. Offers overall 200 points extra credit throughout the semester. Do the ALEKS if you take him!!
Great teacher! You will learn a lot, but you will have to put in the work. There are opportunities for extra credit. He does provide a practice test before each test which is helpful. Dr. Quach really wants you to succeed and is willing to help you in class or during office hours. I would definitely take him again.
I personally did not like the way Professor Quach taught. I mostly taught myself through YouTube videos. I also agree that on Lab Reports he is very particular and a harsh grader. HOWEVER, he gives so much extra credit that as long as you study and try you cant not pass the class. Extra Credit on Tests, Homework, and in class Quizzes.
Great teacher! He really wants his students to be successful. You will have to put in the work because it is not an easy course. He is more than willing to help you in class and during office hours. He gives you worksheets and practice tests to help you study. I would definitely take him again.
10 times more work than any calculus class. Hardest at this school. Tests are extremely difficult and nothing like aleks or the practice tests... Even if you study 40 hours for a test good luck because I've tried it. Save yourself the pain and take Dr. G for an easy A. His last term is spring 2019
He answers any questions you have and teaches the subject more clearly than I expected a chem professor to teach. Chem is sort of hard for me but I payed attention in class, took notes, and was satisfied with the grade I got. Make sure to do the ALEKS online hw. That also helps you understand the concepts.
He seems like a good person but as a teacher he is way too strict and difficult. He goes way to fast during lectures and if you asked a question in lab he would spaz out and get upset that you just can't figure it out yourself. You have to put in a lot of time, makes you do all of aleks which is just annoying, other professors assigned only 50%.
Okay, you have to work hard for your grade in this class. Chemistry is a really heavy subject and youll survive quach if you skim over the lectures before the lesson. Labs are fairly easy, make sure you look over your procedures before. keep up with your aleks even though its all due at the end of the semester. He definitely wants you to succeed!
He made me laugh at myself many times. Class is lecture heavy, but his notes are clearly organized. Pay attention in class, write down everything he puts on the board, and ASK QUESTIONS. He loves when students engage. Visit office hours and utilize email if you can't get to his office. He will explain anything if asked. Helps that he's also cute!
Very little help was provided when asked for feedback. Exams are extremely difficult but in some way alike to the practice exams. Make sure you complete all the homework, it will help your grade significantly. Tough grader on all the assignments. Sometimes very rude. An overall good professor just expects a lot from you.
The hardest class I've taken so far, but it was a 6 week class. Labs work as participation basically, but exams are the biggest grade. Practice exams available for practice, but Aleks should be used. In class you are taught but you're gonna want to read the book too. Good amount of xtra cred. Had a low B, ended up with an A bc of the final exam.
Chem is a semi difficult class. Quach is a pretty decent teacher (7/10).He can be a bit rude at times during stressful labs but I just ignore it. Ask intelligent questions and be confident and youll be on his good side. Use prior tests from last semester to study. Make sure you do all the work on time! Its a lot. Make friends in class, it helps!
Professor Quach is the best teacher I have ever taken! In the lectures he writes everything on the board and if you do not understand he will repeat it for you and help you understand. If you are planing to go into the medical field and preparing for the MCAT I would definitely take Professor Quach! Also, Professor Quach gives so much extra credit!
Hey gives HORRIBLE lectures and expects you to know EVERYTHING and doesn't understand that when you ask for help.... you have no idea what is going on, he never explains anything that is easy to understand. During coronavirus, he doesn't explain anything well, he gives lots of labs without ANY explanation and essentially fails you.
QUACH IS NOT THE PROFESSOR TO TAKE FOR THIS COURSE.. DO NOT TAKE HIM ONLINE BECAUSE OR COVID 19. YOU WILL STRUGGLE VERY BADLY AND NOT LEARN ANYTHING. TESTS ARE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND HARD TO NOT PASS. YOU ARE BETTER OFF WITH ANOTHER PROFESSOR. HE DOES NOT GIVE ANY STUDY GUIDES AND HE IS AN EXTREMELY TOUGH GRADER.
Honestly, before 'rona he was an okay professor. But now that miss 'rona is around chem is straight-up awful. He does zoom meetings were he just read over the PowerPoint not helpful at all. Last test the highest grade was a 70! I'm just saying barely anyone passed and he did not offer any curve nor extra credit. I used to have an A but rn is low B
Before classes were moved online, his class wasn't too bad. There were daily quizzes, long lectures, and labs. His notes are kinda all over the place. Once we moved online, my grade began to drop. His lectures were optional to attend since he just read off the PowerPoint. The labs were difficult to complete and he barely helped answer questions
NEVER TAKE HIS CLASS. He is unfair, switches due dates very often and doesn't update the calendar. He is rude and does not review before exams even when the entire class asked for a review. I took this class as a transient student, paid out of pocket, and it was the worst decision of my college career. If you want to pass chemistry not w/him.
If math and science are difficult for you, TAKE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR. Chemistry is hard and Quach doesn't go out of his way to make it easy on you. NO late work at ALL. No study guides or reviews (really sucks during exam time). I am a straight A student and I am praying I can just get a C for this course. Some extra credit opportunity.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! TAKE THIS WARNING SERIOUSLY!! He does not care about you passing. He does not teach well, does not give study guides, gives an insane amount of homework, doesn't answer your questions properly, has odd times that assignments are due as well as constantly changing due dates. Do what I didn't do and take someone else.
TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!! This has been the worst professor I have ever had. He literally doesn't care about you passing. He doesn't prepare you for exams. He doesn't answer questions thoroughly. There's tons of homework & his lectures suck. Youtube has taught me more than him. I'm a straight A student failing this course. TAKE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!!!
Ive never struggled with a class as hard as this class and I am a Straight A student. He doesnt give out study guides , he really doesnt explain lectures to much, and He makes you do all work . I would suggest taking this class by itself if you do decide to take him. I just hope I can pass this class with a C and thats a lot coming from me.
TOOK HIM TWICE! Face to Face he was hard to deal with, Serious in lab and criticizes work shown on written exams. He only cares about Students not cheating. Online (hybrid) Negative experience. Multiple choice exams Hard but Im passing. Take him online before he changes this policy. STUDY HARD. Dont take if you have problems you will FAIL.
horrible. He does not teach just has online publisher work and buries you under it. extremely condescending and bad mouths his peers to students. He does not have integrity.
Professor Quach isn't good at teaching. I go to all the lectures and watch all the lectures I miss, take notes, and do all the work, but I still have a bad grade. I have put countless hours into this class and it doesn't pay off. His lectures are hopelessly boring, he doesn't add any flair to his lectures, and everyone gets bored.
Not sure how I passed this class or even how I got a B. I failed every test with my highest being a 58 so take that for what it's worth. He will probably curve your grades at the end but don't count on it, look elsewhere.
honestly take another teacher, his test are nearly nothing like the lectures, there is a lecture every week in the morning which is sperate than actual class hours. you have to turn in things on time or else its useless no late work. very time consuming class, not only class work but add to that outside studying since you literally have to relearn
I have never disliked a class so much that I go out of my way to go on this website and put a low rating before this class. I still passed but Professor Quachs lectures are worth nothing and I essentially had to learn everything he taught OUTSIDE of class. The most time consuming class I have ever had to take. Take his class online at your own risk
I am generally a straight A student and this was the hardest class I have ever taken. Average test grade was a 55 and the average final grade was a 39 with no curves. If you care about your grade and don't want to do most of the learning on your own, take a different teacher. Based on his earlier reviews, I am guessing he is better in person.
I was a straight A student at Seminole State until this class. I spent hours every day studying for this class and couldn't focus on my other classes. You won't learn anything from the lectures, the only reason I got a B was because of the hours spent on youtube. The averages for the tests were always F's and there's no curves.
On campus class* Here's the deal, he is decent in person but his lectures are robotic and slow (especially since he forces us to watch recorded lectures from the lockdown instead of teaching his us in person). It is similar to when kids are forced to read aloud. You will teach yourself as you will learn nothing from his recorded lectures.
Decent labs but laughs at and ridicules students for asking simple questions or asking for clarification in lab. Taking on campus but having to watch lectures online like its covid all over again. Do not take if you struggle having to teach yourself every aspect of the course because his online lectures will not help you. in class timeoffice hours
This class has 4 exams and a final. You must go to all labs and he does not allow exams to be made up at a later time. NO CURBS, even when the class average was an F. He does not give mercy. Don't ask questions, he will belittle you. However, I did pretty much understand everything after the lectures.
Chemistry itself is not hard to understand. People on the internet can teach you this whole class, that being said; This professor will make you so confused, that you question your intelligence. DO NOT ASK HIM QUESTIONS. He has a superiority complex and will belittle you. It's awful to see students who need guidance be put down for asking questions.
The worst learning experience I have EVER had. Extremely high work load, harsh grading: he clearly does not care about his students or their grades. His lecture videos posted are 2 + hours per chapter and are not invigorating or helpful for exams, and his lectures are longer and equally as unhelpful. Last exam and final were one day apart. Yeah.
Great professor. Encourages asking questions, went over lots of problems in a clear way. Gave us good feedback on assignments and so many opportunities to practice and ensure we understand the material. He also gave several bonus point assignments and even pushed back some due dates to give more time. Would highly recommend taking his classes.
Very long and boring lectures also Provides little to no instructions in lab. When you ask a question he makes you look dumb and is rude. If you want to waste your money and self teach yourself this class.... TAKE IT. requires 20+ hours of homework outside of class. loves to see his students fail.
Please, save yourself. This has been the most difficult class I have ever taken. Take it if you have to, but I would suggest a different professor. Lectures and notes are fast and unclear with little time to ask questions. I would have dropped the course earlier if I knew it would be like this. You have been warned.
good lectures. Exams are very difficult but almost exactly like the previous ones he uploads, so study those. Very passive aggressive and unfriendly during labs - print and read directions BEFORE coming to lab!! Assigns way more aleks topics than other chem profs so STAY ON TOP OF ALEKS FROM THE BEGINNING.
Van Quach was the hardest professor I have taken since I started at SCC, honestly the worse. His lectures are so boring and when you asks questions he never understands what you don't understand. I went to him for help and felt worse leaving his office. Definitely take the reviews serious, he is the worst!
I got put into his class, I purposely didn't choose him because of these reviews but I thought maybe it would not be too bad. I WAS WRONG. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He has an extreme superiority complex, he belittles you if you ask him a question making you feel stupid. & His lectures/labs are extremely vague leaving you with no clue how to do them.
I purposely chose a different professor based on these reviews and somehow still got stuck with him. genuinely does not care about you or your learning experience. Horrible teacher who belittles his students and hates his job. It felt as though he was setting everyone up for failure. I can't believe I wasted so much time and money on this class.
This professor was one of the worst I have had. Lectures of an entire chapter are done in one class period and very fast with no time to really grasp material. If you ask questions he answers sarcastically and laughing as if you're dumb for asking it. Lab is terrible as he doesn't go over what we do. Don't take this class. waste of time and money.
Use all the resources on Canvas - Especially the practice tests from the previous semester. He has built-in extra credit on tests and in ALEKS. Stay on top of the work, show up to class, and listen to how he wants work submitted, and its an easy pass.
I failed chem twice and this was my third taking the class and I came home to SSC to take it and I finally passed, if you put in effort and show up then you will pass, I'm saying this as I failed the last 2 exams but did fine on everything else and I am good, I should have taken the class here first time around and I did summer semester in 6 weeks
He has to be one of the worst, if not the worst professor at Seminole State. When it comes to labs he barely goes over what is supposed to be done and wants everyone to know already how it's done. His lectures are boring and goes over more material than someone might be able to comprehend. He just faces the board and scribbles with an expo marker.
I don't know why he has such bad reviews on here. Chemistry is just a hard subject, but he explained the material very well, and he has extra credit built into every exam, although the exams are very hard to begin with. However, if you review his old exams that he uploads, then you should do fine. Just do the hw and ask him when you have Qs.
Do not recommend. Grading system is really confusing. Instead of starting with an A you start with an F and you earn points to make your grade go up. Tests are difficult and you really have to study for them. Quizzes are hard. In lab he expects you to do everything yourself and kind of shames you when you ask basic questions. DONT TAKE HIM!
Not exactly inspirational; very to the point in lectures but very accessible at all other times. Super important to study hard for tests and work on the online homework; it will assist you in learning everything you need to know. Only criticism is lack of in-class practice problems; you tend to need to bring them to him during office hours.
Good professor, but class is very time consuming and difficult, especially the tests. Lectures are good and informative, but can put you to sleep. Labs can be fun and a good learning experience, but make sure you are prepared and read the procedures before you do the lab, he is unhelpful. Do not procrastinate on Aleks hw. Does give extra credit.
Professor Quach is, simply put, a strict but great professor. Sometimes, he can get under your skin and discourage you, but the purpose of his strictness is to get you prepared for a field where you need to be accurate and you should be striving for success. Getting an A is very doable and as long as you are prepared to do the work you will excel.
I would be so generous to give him such a good rating since his lecture notes and powerpoints are useful, the problem is literally him. He would literally grade you a failing grade just because you messed up on one or two things and he will make it really loud to your face about it. Whenever you ask help, DO NOT ask him or classmates.
Professor Q is caring and respectful of my learning needs. However, he assigns a handful of work and you need to be responsible for completing them on time. He also has an insane strict grading policy and will drop the lowest grades to drop your class grade by a few points. When taking the exams, it's crucial to know the study material to pass.
Saw a lot of negative reviews but had to take him for this summer semester. CHM 2045C is a heavy workload but this professor tries to make it manageable. Got As and Bs on tests but a 69 on the last. Bombed the final and weekly quizzes and I'll pass with a C or B. Goes over pre-labs. Keep up with ALEKS. Built in extra credit on tests
You need the textbook to access ALEKS. Keep up with ALEKS, it is a lot of work but worth it. Offers notes on tests if you're caught up with ALEKS and gives everyone formula sheets. Seems a bit confident sometimes but I would rather have that than a lousy prof. ALEKS helped a lot with studying for tests. Offers extra credit and good prof overall.
I feel like either some of these reviews are lying or fake because this professor has some weird superiority complex going on for pretty much ANYTHING. Like ask him a question then he talks in a demeaning tone for your answer. Dropping this class soon because he's not worth it
The class is hard, especially for someone like me who hates all things Science (hence why I got such a low grade). But Professor Quach is an amazing professor and makes it as digestible as he possibly can. He's very responsive and his guidelines are always clear. Though he is a tough grader, he has a passion for his work. Also, DO ALEKS FOR EC.
Don't take this professor. He simply can't teach and talks to his students as if we're decorated scientists (this is chem 1 we don't know what we're doing yet). The textbook is used for Aleks which is extra credit, and to award you with notes for exams. While there is a decent amount of extra credit it doesn't make up for his lack of teaching.
I believe that Dr. Q receives a lot of negative ratings mainly due to the difficulty of the class. Honestly, this was the hardest class I have taken so far. For example, on every single exam, the CLASS average was typically around 50%. However, if you actually take the time to study and complete the bonus points assignments provided, you will pass.
I believe that Dr. Q receives many negative reviews mainly due to the difficulty of the class. Every single exam had a CLASS average grade of about 50%. However, there are many opportunities for bonus points and as long as you dedicate a good chunk of time and effort, you will pass. Nevertheless, definitely only take this class if you have to.
I honestly cant tell whether its the professor or the material that makes this class so hard. Quach is so unbelievably smart when it comes to chemistry, but he is not able to make concepts easy to grasp for students. The lectures are almost pointless because he teaches it to you as if you are a seasoned chemist. Tests are super hard. good luck
Hard class, professor did not help in learning the material in an easy way and would talk down on students who didn't understand concepts. One would be better off taking another Chemistry professor than this guy.
Quach does not provide proper study material for his major exams. Most content can be found through McGraw Hill, but it is impossible to know what to study. He is also uninvolved in the online class itself.
Professor makes class more difficult than it has to be. Feedback unhelpful, at office hours he does not try to help students with questions they may have. Tests hard and he gives nothing to study for it. Take this class in a different semester with a different professor.
Makes the class harder than necessary, feedback was always unhelpful and he was unapproachable for any questions or help. Take someone else even if you have to wait another semester!!
Very selective with who he helps and doesn't help. Has no problem making you an example in class. When you ask for help he has a strong tendency to be very sarcastic and make you feel inferior.
Took him for Chem 1 and 2, he's not bad you need to keep on top of the online homework and do the lab assignments. He gives exams from the previous semester to study off of and they are usually similar. All the information needed is taught and available through powerpoint slides, including a lot of worked out problems.
This professor was the most disrespectful and sarcastic teacher I have ever had to deal with. For someone so decorated with degrees he is extremely impatient and rude. He teaches chem 1 like it's advanced chemistry class. He humiliates students and will yell in your face if you ask normal questions. DO NOT TAKE
Had a lot of resources and offers extra credit on his test which are the only pros, but it was harder than the material on the test so good luck getting it right. He is a terrible lecturer and absolutely loves to humiliate students and me personally if you asked questions or told him you did not understand something.
This professor teaches as if he expects everyone in the room to be as educated as he is, but the problem is we're learning. He won't hesitate to yell at you for misunderstanding, and is incredibly demeaning. He grades very strictly, and if you don't learn well by half-assed lectures, don't expect to learn anything. He's very impatient and just rude
A chill guy sometimes. Said he will take off 10% for late penalty but never did. His exam questions were overly complicated and wordy, just ask the question. it's especially unnecessary when the final exam had easier questions. gives extra credit, drop grades. besides math questions, there are also some written answer questions on the exams
The worst professor I have ever taken. Inaccessible, office hours are a lie, when you ask a question he will make a joke about your intelligence?? This person should not be a teacher or even a tutor, terrible experience and I wish I waited another semester to take the class with a different professor.
The class is quite challenging, but if you stay on top of the ALEKS assignments and use helpful study tools like Unstuck AI, you can succeed. The professor is knowledgeable but may come across as demeaning at times. Overall, a tough but manageable class with a fair grading system.
Plenty of opportunities for bonus points, clear expectations laid out in the beginning of the course. He comes off as intimidating at first but overall a good teacher.
If you want to be ridiculed for not knowing certain material and asking questions no matter how complicated or simple, then take this professor. He is not afraid to embarrass you for asking a question. Unbelievably strict grading and seems to come in everyday with a bad mood, he's always in a rush to finish class and leave, constantly on his phone.
Quach is not that bad. Some people rating here are just made of glass. Do your ALEKS and really importantly do previous semester exams and you are going to get high Bs 100%. He even lets half a cheat sheet; like come on now. He's just serious and thats it, but he is better than a lot of professors. Never ever done chemistry and so far a B+
Straight up: DO NOT TAKE HIM. If you want to ask questions—don't. The mean for our FINAL was 166/400, which is
worst professor I ever took. do NOT take him. super unhelpful and lazy at teaching lectures and never responded to emails. Office hours are listed but he is never there even with sending him emails.
i was able to pass this class with an A so it's not impossible but he is a very harsh grader and you need to spend a lot of time outside of class to study and review. he comes off as really intimidating and may sometimes seem belittling when you ask questions or make mistakes in lab so if you can't handle that then choose another professor! please!
He tells you exactly what's expected of you to get a good grade. If you spend time to review lectures, do all of the online homework, and attend/participate in labs, you'll be fine. He gives partial credit and notes on tests and the lectures aren't as boring as some other professors. Respectful, chill guy. Class isn't super easy but it's worth it.
