He's so funny. Makes class interesting. Love the shoes! Had him for about 5 classes now. Wish I could take more from him.
What a badass! Hilarious, intelligent, interesting... wonderful class and a wonderful man
I hear he teaches other classes well, but don't take him for theory. Very ambiguous. Nice person, kinda wacky, but needs to focus.
This man has a lot to him, the problem is getting it out of him. Totally unconventional...don't expect anything normal. He is nice, but way ambiguous....his lectures float all over the place. Read the book, DO NOT depend on notes!
This guy is out there. I took the online course. He is not very organized...but the class is really easy. But be careful...he tricks you on the tests...just because they are open book does not mean the questions are clear enough to answer easily.
Geiger is a great professor. He should get a raise! He may be a little out there, but he definitly knows what he is talking about. If you are truly interested in Anthro., take as many classes from him as possible!!!
dr. geiger is an awesome teacher, you have to write everything he says but if you simply llisten to him and write you will get an A in the class. I think he is awesome for not being a typical teacher.
I didn't read a single thing from the book, just printed out and highlighted his notes, and got a 98% overall in the class. Too easy, but very interesting too :)
I took him online, and wow.. noting was updated from the past semester! It was hard to get ahold of him but he worked with you when you did... Its a cake class if you can handle his unorginization!
Good teacher, very interesting and unconventional.
I love him. He's brilliant and funny. He's also fair. I've taken every class he teaches. He's a great guy.
awesome teacher, funny as hell, awesome shoes! his lectures do tend to float all over the place but you will get used to it, easy tests, and his very helpful if you have any questions at all..
Great guy. Don't take theory with him. Take everything else. He's... complex. But overwhelmingly interesting. Not your typical prof. Likes class discussions. Overall, a decent guy to take for a class.
Good class.
Took the class on the www during the six weeks of summer. This is such an excellent summer class, easy to keep up with the extra load and two tests that were very fair. He answered every question I had in an extremely quck time!
It cannot get much easier than this class. I took his class on-line during the summer and it was an easy A. A simple discussion posting that takes 5 min. required each week and 2 online exams and that is it!
Hes soo amazing!!! Take this class. He makes you want to go to class to see what he'll do and say next!
He is one of the best teachers that Ive had. He makes the class very fun and you never know what he's going to say next. I would take this class again.
This guy is so funny! Make sure you come to class when he brings in the barbie and ken dolls! It's not mandatory to go to class, but he asks questions on the test about things that were only mentioned in class and aren't in the book. I'd take him again.
This class was awesome. Dr. Geiger is the best. You actually want to come to class. His tests are really easy and he posts all his notes online. He has really cool shoes too!
awesome teacher!!barely went to class and i pulled off an A. I def. recommend taking human species with him!plus he's hysterical!!
I would definitely take this class again. If something came up, it doesnt matter if you miss class because all the notes are online. I went to class because he is the funniest man ever. I took friends with me on 3 occasions they wanted to go again just to listen to him!
This guy is definitely a character. You dont have to go to class if you don't want to bc all the notes are online but I would recommend going bc there r a lot of notes to study if u wait the day b4 the test, so if you'll keep up then it's fine, but don't wait til the last minute or it will be hard.
I think i am the only person who didn't like him. He rambles, and mummbles, and his notes aren't very clear. I never went to class, studied the online notes the day or two before, and got a C.However everyone else seemed to do an amazing job
I took it online. It was VERY easy. He gives you three hours to take a 50 questions test. He grades easy on the postings. I did all of my class work in two days (except for tests) and got a high A. And he's really funny!!
I have had him twice now and i think he is a wonderful teacher. Everyone should take him. He is really easy, will curve tests, and help you out with your grade, so you can recieve the best grade possible. Take notes a lot, and print out all the online notes. He doesn't use the book, so don't buy it!
He is the most unique teacher I've seen. His class is easy!! Don't even buy the book because I passed his class with just lectures. Also he puts all the classs notes online(WINK WINK). However you must go to class, because he explains the material well, trust me this is an easy class.TAKE IT!
This guy is toooo funny. Take this class!
This is the fourth class I have taken w/Dr. Geiger (medical anthro). He is the most interesting teacher I've ever had. Always answers your questions and is very animated in class. Is very fair in testing, and takes all questions from notes in class. Excellent teacher!
I took him at Rollins. I wish they had kept him, they goofed when they let UCF take him. This prof is the BOMB. He not only knows the stuff but lives it! I know that he has working experiments at home of organic fish breeding and stuff! Nuff said
Easy class. Geiger is hilarious. I didn't go to class and didn't use the book and got an A. All the notes are online.. just study them and kno them and you'll have an easy A (im not usually an A student) Definately take this class.
I took his online Cultural Anthropology class. This class was very interesting and wasn't very hard at all. You have weekly questions that need to be answered, but they aren't due until the end of the month. You have three exams that are VERY easy and you don't have to take the fina. Take this class
I LOVE DOCTOR GEIGER!!! He is very intelligent, willing to work with students, knows his stuff, and the class is easy to get through without problems. He gave me an A and I'm giving him one too.
Took the online class. The easiest class I have ever had. All of the exams are directly taken from the notes that are available to you while you take the test. Only comment I would make is: He needs to edit the .pdf files a little better...some info was left out. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!!!
He is not very clear about what is going to be on test, notes do not match his tests, don't know why everyone thinks he is all THAT, I found him to be obnoxious and full of himself....I had a 4.0...but not anymore
i took the online class and it was the easiest class ever. i did all the discusses in one day and never study for the exams. i would look at the notes while i take the exams and the answers were right there. easy "A"
Class is 4 tests and 2 5 pg papers. Test Qs come from lectures which you must attend b/c he posts no notes online unless he couldn't cover it in time. Overall a good teacher- As in all classes, study well and you will easily pass the class. Geiger does answer e-mail, which is really helpful.
I had Dr. Geiger for 9 of my ANT classes. I love him! He is funny, interesting, helpful, laid-back and cool. I graduated with my BA of Anthropology in 03 and he was my favorite ANT professor. He wrought me an awesome recommendation letter for me for grad school.very nice. Highly recommened, obviously.:) Oh, how I miss Dr. Geiger's classes!
I took his general anthro online class and it was so easy. I never studied for the tests and got As on all of them, as long as you have his outlines close by it's an easy class.
This class was online. His tests were very straight forward. Every question came from the weekly modules. If you need a no stress elective, take this class! It's Great!
It's like being taught by a child with ADD. Did not like his method of handing scantrons back without test so you can see where he messed up on the test key....very disorganized, very disappointed because I actually like him....but all his dang jokes don't help his disorganized style....very yuppie and bohemian!...take Long or Wallace!
This was an online class. It was great. Three tests, optional final, and very easy discussions. This class took very little effort and was a great GPA boost. I got an A on all the tests. And for discussions, you get points just for writing something. It is a great class is you aren't in the major and you just need extra hours. Take it.
Geiger is the man! i had him for anthropology and he is the by far my favorite professor at UCF. He's so funny and his class was the only class i actually sat thru for the entire time. He rides a skateboard to class!! Study and you'll get an A. Keep smokin that geiger!!!!!
A Flake! Run while you can. Don't let the jokes fool you. He is very disorganized, contradicts himself, and has favorites. Like being taught by a yuppie with AADD! RUN!
Took this online Spring '06. 3 exams, 14 simple discussion postings. That's IT. Instructor is MIA. Exams were 50q's, mult/ch. Easy class, don't expect much from prof., though. He'll respond to e-mails, but doesn't seem very interested in the course, other than to force-feed you info about his field research.
Took the online version of Geiger's anthropology class. As such, I never really got to meet him. His material seemed alright, but he seemed to want to give us much more of his own personal material than general anthropology material, which made me feel he was a bit conceited. Not a bad guy or a bad class, though.
Easy class.
Extremely intelligent & obviously creative. Personable, helpful. Absolute friendliest professor I've ever encountered! Many endearing qualities. First time ever having one of Geiger's classes, looking forward to more. Learned a lot, enjoyed readings & lectures. Good idea to take notes. Overall a wacky, wonderful, kindhearted guy. Very funny too.
I took his online class for Summer '06. I never once contacted him, so there's not much I can say regarding his personality, except that he is extremely unorganized. One of the tests had 4 questions that were not even covered in the material. He gives no giudelines on what he expects, and usually a lot of the grades are missing. Good luck.
Online class so I never met the professor. Tests were easy and straight from the WebCT modules. His notes were a bit disorganized but you take what you can for an easy A. You had to answer a question in a weekly discussion posting that was very easy and he probably didn't read since I got full credit on all of them.
Took this class online for summer '06. The class is definitely an easy A. Just print all of his module notes and refer to them on the tests. Most of the test is straight out that. I didn't really read the book but I did skim it for answers to the weekly postings. Also there's A LOT you have to read about his research at a Vietnamese refugee camp.
Online class is awesome..Easy A with a little effort. Assignments are easy, tests are annoying.. but how hard can they be you have all of your study materials right in front of you. Easy class..
The class was easy, but I'd still never take Professor Geiger again. He gave me a C instead of an A in the course because he hadn't graded a test of mine. I contacted him right away and he said he'd take care of it. Almost one year later and I'm still trying to fight it. He ruined my GPA and now refuses to answer my emails.
I took his online class and it was awesome. Tests are easy if you have your notes in front of you (I referred to the book for a few things). I liked his note style. It was casual, easy to understand, and he injected humor. The weekly postings don't require a ton of work either.
took summer online class. you can work at your own pace which is nice. There's no timers each week like other teachers do. Exams are pretty easy and mostly based on discussions and objectives. Theres a lot of reading of his own research but its better than a boring text. As long as your read what you're supposed to you get an A.
Class is an easy A, but "Dr." Geiger is not so great. I have never seen a graduated PhD with such horrible grammar and spelling skills except for "Dr." B. Wayne Rockmore--also a UCF prof...
one of the best teacher to take ANT 2000 with. take it online since all you have to do is the weekly discussions and his test. The test are hard but you do get to use notes and he gives tons of time. Just copy the modules and use it on the test.
I took this class online in summer A, and Dr. Geiger never really adjusted his previous syllabus to account for the shorter class, so the last 2 weeks there is a lot more to do. His notes are somewhat confusing at times, and you have to read most of his dissertation as an assignment (that you are quizzed on).
Took online class and it was fairly easy. Do the reading and be sure you understand the material before taking the tests. The tests are very LONG, it was over 60 questions. So be prepared. Overall, I got a B. The professor is an easy grader too.
great teacher. If you need to take an online course,TAKE HIM.He allows you to work at you own pace. The work is very easy and not time consuming at all so it's the perfect class if you are working or dont have time to keep up with a course you need to do things for everyday. Just do all the modules and print modules out before the test.
Took the online Summer course. It's easy and requires little effort. Tests aren't bad since the material is accessible. Class is a joke though. You don't really learn anything, and the whole course is extremely disorganized. It's an easy way to get the required summer credits, if nothing else.
Extremely easy class, but that makes it kind of boring. :( There is very little interaction between classmates because no one cares. Little interaction with the instructor, too, and the notes, etc. are a bit disorganized. Tests can be a wee bit confusing, but they are open notes and there's a 2 hour time limit. Prof. Geiger is funny, though.
I have taken him for Anthropology online and Cultural Anthropology online. I have also signed up for another online course of his for next semester. Easy class, but also really interesting guy, I can honestly say I learned alot of things I previously didn't know, and I cared to learn it.
Never took anthropology before, wasn't sure I would like the class, but I did. Dr. Geiger is a great professor, truly interesting, very passionate about the topics he discusses. If you keep up with the reading and online material, you'll do well. I would definitely take a class with him again.
online course. work at your own pace on the assignments (15 discussion board postings) and do the three tests and you are exempt from the final. make sure your module info is handy for exams because you will need it definitely and he tells you that himself. great professor, responds quickly to emails. i would take him again any day.
i forgot to add that you also learn some really cool things about culture that you probably don't know.
Absolutely hated this class! Only received return e-mails when I wasn't questioning the material. Hasn't changed material or used the same textbook since 2003 yet tests us on the same info.Received A but didn't learn anything I'll need to know for my ANT degree. Most material was his own PRPC refugee research. Take this if only interested in easy A
Easy class itself, however the professor is useless. Constantly posting wrong due dates and inconsistent information and assignments. Never returns e-mails so if you have a question, you have to ask the students. Avoid this teacher!
Instructor is disorganized and does not answer email and the TA is not much better. The syllabus and the material on tests do not match. I'm an anthro major so I may be stuck with this guy for other classes but if you don't have to take his class then do urself a favor and stay away.
i had him for 1/4 of the semester after dr. jones was hospitalized. he crams a lot into his notes, but he's entertaining. quirky and kind of flustered/unorganized. haven't had a test yet, but i think i'll do fine.
Have taken him for three classes online, easy class, but still you learn alot. Teaches you about his experiances and you learn alot about cambodia and his time in the Pcp camps which is really interesting. Good TA's, also will admit when their are mistakes on the exam etc. Great guy I would recommend to my friends.
I took this class online, so I never personally interacted with Dr. Geiger. As far as the course, it was very easy. Remember to do the discussion posts on time. The online tests are not hard. Since he gives you review guides/summaries for the case study books, you don't need to buy them unless you want to. The readings on his research is very goo
I Took the sex, gender and culture class. It was pointless and the guy is a wack job. He gave a lot of readings that you must do and you have to read a 400 page book because those discussions are made private and you cannot see other students answers just for the book part. The test made no sense just dont do this class to yourself.
easy class and very capable to get an A. just do the work
Took this online. Very vague assignments, not very involved in the information. I kind of got the sense that he really didn't want to be teaching this class, so he didn't put much effort into making it exciting for students. Good material in general, though.
Sex,Gend,Culture. Online summer course. TONS of reading. If you don't have time, I wouldn't recommend. Articles are interesting. No class discussion or teacher interaction which made class boring.E-mail replies were very brief-often one word, which is fine.Seems like he did not want to teach this class. Do NOT take tests until you've read everythin
Also wanted to add that he was fair, and he was nice, and also allowed plenty of time to turn in assignments and plenty of time to complete tests.(Sex Gender Culture - Online Summer)
I took this class to have an easy online summer class, big mistake. The assignments are vague and have no relation to info on the test. He gives 0s on assignments you do, without explanation. Tests are long and have a lot of detail. I wouldn't recommend.
For the online class there was no way to interact with other students, which was sort of strange, but it just meant you were responsible for doing everything on your own. If you had any questions about assignments you had to email him. He was very nice and helpful. It was a lot of reading but very interesting. I enjoyed the class.
Professor Geiger made class fun and interesting. He brought in a Barbie and Ken doll to discuss what we expect to happen and see. I highly recommend taking him. Very easy class!
Not very good experience. Have had him for 3 online classes: first two classes were the EXACT SAME MATERIAL! Easy but I felt gypped. The 3rd class he did not give any assignments for over a month due to an illness (what about the TA's?) and now we have been given 3 days notice that there is a final exam on 3 books we were never told told to read!
Geiger is amazing. I absolutely loved going to class. He's zany and talks a mile a minute, but he's easy to understand and gets across exactly what he wants you to know. The tests were clear and didn't require much studying past just paying attention in class. I'd DEFINITELY take him again. Easily one of my favorite professors at UCF!!
Took ANT2000 Online. Easy A!!
Took online-Gen. Ath. easy A. Teacher is nice. I hated the subject but the class was so easy that it really didn't matter. didn't read book. really you can slack and still get a good grade.
This class was very easy in my opinion. There was 17 assignments. Usually one assignment due every week, which just required you to read over material and give a response to a question. He seemed to grade leniently on the responses. There was also 3 exams which were easy if you had the material from the modules in front of you.
Easiest class at ucf. All info needed for hw and test is online in modules. I took class online and it was by far the easiest class i've ever taken. DONT BUY BOOK
After reading the prior comments I thought I would be in for a good class. It was easy, but it was also very vague & frustrating. Online summer A & there was absolutely NO class interaction. Not very consistent. You don't need the book; it's is all about his time at a refugee camp. Pick another teacher or you will be bored out of your wits.
I disagree with the comment stating this class is boring. You obviously didn't do your work. Dr. Geiger is very nice. He's not giving out grades though. And he shouldn't. I found this course to be very interesting. I was for the first time eager to read. The book was used so please don't think you're going to get by without it.
Took Geiger for 2 online-only courses. Had a 1991 version of main text; got an A. Notes/info was disorganized. Exams had impossible questions. Real example: "Hayden found that the greatest concentration of ____ within the large houses was on the side with ___ hearths." 4 choices fit with second blank. Can't answer without knowing the first blank.
Took the Summer A online version.TA was horrible and he had her stop grading student's work 1/2 through class. Best advice - go to online chat sessions w/him. He will allow you to ask him assignment questions (he will give you the answer) and you will do alright. Don't need to read books just use for test ??s. His notes are confusing as well.
Took this class in spring. It was easy if you came to class once in a while and listened to what he said about he experience in SE Asia. what he said, he said multiple times and that was what you put on the test or pick the answer that is closest to his opinion. Unorganized and has problems with technology. Pretty much have to study what he says.
I took the class online and I can honestly say in all my years at UCF (I'm a Senior), this was the easiest class I've ever taken. The weekly assignments are so simple that I often wondered if I was missing something. I wasn't though. Don't buy the book! I didn't and I got an A. Take this class if you are in need of an easy elective or GPA booster!
I took the online Cultural Anthropology class and thoroughly enjoyed it. There are several writing assignments based of his refugee camp research and grading is completely fair. Tests are straightforward and the material, in my opinion, was very well organized. Contrary to popular believe, the professor will answer questions if you email him.
The notes are full of typos and incomplete thoughts. They are a little bit confusing at times, but the assignments are simple enough that you can just search the notes and quickly find exactly what he wants. The class requires minimal effort so if you have genuine interest in the subject, you're better off studying it on your own. It's an easy A.
Easy online class. Weekly discussion postings. Three tests and an optional final. Three hours to take the tests and you can use your notes. Got an A in the class. Would recommend for an easy A!
I was so psyched to take this class because I love anything to do with American Indians and was really hoping to learn. The class was awful. Easiest I've ever taken at UCF, but awful. The handouts were a mess, the videos were awful, and there was no interaction whatsoever. No discussions, emails, anything. Very disappointed.
Notes are VERY disorganized and confusing and not as easy as everyone says. Took are long and time consuming... at least 70-80 questions. Test had questions that simply cannot be answered. He would have two blanks in the questions and then when you look at the answer choices, they all consisted of only one word answers. Those questions are all ove
This professor is ridiculous. The exams do not make sense at all and many questions are unanswerable. I did not learn anything at all. Very disappointing. Assignments are awful as well. He for got to order one of the required texts and when we got it, it was a lot to read in a short time. I would avoid this disorganized professor.
I took this class in the summer because I needed an A to boost up my gpa. This is the easiest class ever! You have 10 assignments, and 2 exams. You can use allll your notes, online material, the modules, everything. there is no reason not to ace this class! DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! I wasted $75 and never even took it out of the shrinkwrap.
Read the modules and supplied reading, and use them for the quizzes/tests and you will do fine. Do Not Buy Book!
I don't know what he is like in a face to face class, but you can't get any easier than his online classes. Especially if you know how to open more than one tab on your browser. His tests follow the sources to the letter.
I wish I had the classes so many others did. I'm with the previous ANT2000 student: To say that this online class was duct-taped together would be be a kind statement. Assignments don't match the reading or the tests. If you ask about it and hear back, it's a one-line indecipherable answer. You can pass, but you 'll learn *nothing*. Pathetic.
DEAR GOD, this class was easy. Yes, the notes are disorganized. No, you probably won't learn any more than what little you read to complete the assignments. But, really, every single question he asks is spelled out in plain english in the notes he PROVIDES you. Yes, he gives you HIS notes. If you can't get at least a B in this class.... well... smh
I loved this class. It was the easiest A i've ever received in my life. He gives little easy assignments in between exams and he gives way more time then needed to complete his exams. His class was interesting. You don't need the text book and honestly you'd have to be pretty dumb to fail.
Easiest class I've ever taken. I took it online and never touched any of the books. All of the answers to the tests are found in the noteshe posts which you can save to your comp and open during the test. You don't need any of the books.
What a great online class! The notes are extremely helpful on the test but he does ask questions from the books. Read the books; what you learn is amazing! My last class for my BA, my first Anthropology class and I am thinking on changing my Masters degree to Anthropology! I loved this class! Yes, read the books and all the notes.
He was helpful.
A very easy online class over all. however hes not always completely clear with assignments or he just words the question weird. 18 assignments and 2 test or a final exam which you can use the modules for. Also you wont really learn anything. I recommend getting the books because I used them.
I downloaded the textbook off the internet for free and bought Keatley Creek (the other book). This class was pretty dumb. The modules you just go through and skim, then the assignment you can write garbage and get 10/10, so those are easy. The only thing is that the exams are hard, I just googled everything.
I took his online class in summer B and overall, it was really easy. I did not touch the actual textbook once this semester, however I did use the others. Almost everything from the exams is found directly in the notes. Not a bad class, nor really demanding. It was an easy A for me. I would recommend taking this class!
Just follow the guidelines (somewhat hazy) and you will pass. You could probably skate by without the books, but I recommend if you want to retain any information from the class. Easy A for the Summer B session.
4 tests, final, and 10-16 assignments. No extra credit. Tests are very long, 70-100 questions, questions can be detailed and tricky.Easy class but don't screw yourself over by not studying. you HAVE to study.Assignments are easy, answers are on slides. slides are posted to web courses.vance is interesting, entertaining, ,likable and funny.relaxed pace.
Class was kind of boring. He had a lot of info about his trip to Vietnam. There was four tests and weekly assignments. I didn't buy the book and I got an A. Most of the info from the tests is in the modules word for word. For the most part he grades easy on the weekly assignments. Also you can submit them late and still get credit.
Pretty east class, with a little bit of studying its an easy A. Don't really need the main textbook but the two smaller reading books I would recommend because large portions of some exams are on them. You can miss class if you read and complete the really simple online assignments. Overall an easy class
Have taken him for 2 classes, Peoples of the World and Native American Religious. Not the most organized man, but overall his classes are EASY. Taken both online and aced both. Recommend taking him if you want an A!
First online course I ever took and easiest A ever received. Lots of small assignments(Once I wrote an answer that was 100 words long for assignment and he asked me to shorten. Next time I copypasted from module and got an A), Can skim textbook and required novel. Online nodules are word for word answers for the quizzes. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Have taken 2 online classes w/Geiger, Peoples of the World and Native American Religions. Both were EASY A's. Can't say that I learned all that much, but boosted my GPA so I'm OK with it. His materials aren't very organized thus making him the same way.
Professor was 0 help, but class was ridiculously easy regardless. Took it online over the summer in 6 weeks. Course is designed for 15 weeks and he makes you read 5 books in 5 weeks (1 a week) but the books are to be found nowhere except bought, for hundreds of dollars combined. Exams are easy if you use the books, I checked them out from a library
I love this guy. He's hilarious and super intelligent. I've had him for 4 different Anthropology classes. He has a lot of interesting things to say and you can really learn a lot from him. And you can easily get an A in this class. Take him!
This is one of the more difficult online classes I have taken. You have to do the reading and you have to read through the modules otherwise you will not pass at all. There are many office hours and online conference times available, but working 3 jobs and being a full time student, it's not an easy class to take
Dr. geiger is an excellent professor, he is smart and very funny. His class was very easy a little disorganized which worked for me b/ i'm not a very organized thinker. Test are straight from online material and books. short, easy assignments. will take another class with him Easy A
Geiger is very smart and funny. Overall the class was very easy. short assignments one a week.4 exams straight from the material online and books. definitely will take him again Easy A
Geiger is such a hilarious guy. I took Cultural Anthro and do not regret it a bit! His class was perfectly set up for a 6 week summer. He has fun with the class. Do not buy the book. Never bought any and did not need them at all. Take this class with him! You'll learn actual concepts and he uses his experiences as examples. That's always a plus!
He's chill
I took this class online. Material is power-points and a couple of (reading)books. You can pretty much use the power-points during your Exams and easy to follow but it does help if you read them ahead of time. Assignments are basic with plenty of time to get them done. Answers questions quickly. I will take him for more classes.
Professor Geiger is a really fun, laid back guy. I had no interest in Anthropology and now it's something I want to look into. He's very understanding and makes explains everything very clearlyThe only criticism I have is that his lectures got really long sometimes, and they weren't necessarily linear, but it worked for me. Do NOT buy the textbook.
Prof. Geiger provides minimal instruction but desires highly specific responses to ?'s. The documentation is unorganized and incomprehensible. A student can put forth his best effort & still receive low scores (I'm an A+ student). I wasn't looking for an easy course, this was an elective for me. I had a genuine desire to learn. Sadly, I did not.
He keeps your grades muted the ENTIRE semester. His modules are very unorganized as is his syllabus. 3 exams, and a final if you miss an exam. 15 assignments that are fairly easy. Books are not all that necessary.
Professor Geiger is laid back and hilarious. He explains things pretty well and opens your mind to other perspectives. Grading is fair and the textbook was used, but not much. Overall he seems to really care about the material and that his students learn what it is he finds important.
Dr. Geiger is a very nice person and wonderful teacher. His instructions are very clear and straightforward. There is writing involved however it is nothing to fear, provided you follow the instructions to the letter and put forth effort. I really did not need the book as much as I initially thought , the modules had the main reading material.
Non-cumulative final and super interesting class. He's awkwardly funny and the material is pretty simple. Gives loads of extra credit especially when he sees the class needs it. If you pay attention in class and keep up with the stuff in the book, it's an easy A.
Prof. Geiger is one of the most laid back professors I have ever had. Some people like that, and some don't. He gives a lot of assignments, but you can write one sentence and virtually get a hundred on all of them. His lectures feel long because he doesn't present the material in an interesting way. All of his slides are online, which is nice.
He is a very nice person but I felt he was very unorganized. Some people are okay with that but he wasn't helpful to me at all. I emailed him once and he told me the date of our exam was on a Saturday and never emailed me back to correct himself. I thought his class was hard. I wouldn't take him again.
Professor Geiger has online chats once per week for any questions you may have for online students. Great Professor - cares about students.
Very easy online course. His wording can be a little unclear at times but he does have 1 hour online chat sessions twice a week to answer any questions. Tests are long but all multiple choice. Sweet and helpful professor who doesn't ask for too much. I would take him again.
You walk away wanting to learn more about the culture of people you are studying about. He also gives you enough information and specific pages and notes to use in your study.
Expect to use the books required. There are about 17 assignments, they aren't that hard if you review the material before hand. There are four tests and they are multiple choice. As long as you do your work, you'll do fine. He is a fair grader. For an introduction to anthropology class, it goes into a lot without being overwhelming.
Dr. Geiger is somewhat unorganized but very nice. Never had a problem in any of his classes. Assignments are easy and require no extra research. Questions are very clear and specific. Grades fairly. Tests are somewhat difficult, as they cover a decent amount of material, but all the information you will need is provided. Would recommend.
19 assignments and 3 exams. Tests are very easy and straight forward from the book and assignments in class. The readings in class are long and tedious but answering the questions for the assignment is easy. Just be sure to check to due dates so you don't miss a date.
I took this class online. He doesn't really give leeway for mistakes which would be fine if there weren't such intense consequences for missing an assignment. I suppose he's very straightforward that way. If you just want a class to get a grade this would be optimal.
I'm taking this class online and the material isn't difficult, but organizing it and figuring it out is a nightmare. The current assignment is based on a chapter in a textbook that we were never assigned. I've answered questions on tests that were marked wrong, but when I checked the class notes that he provided, they matched my answer.
This class was pretty reading intensive or so I've been told. I took this class online and I actually bought maybe one of the six or so books the syllabus required. The quizzes and some homework were a bit more difficult because I didn't have the books but it was completely doable. Basically this is just a busy work class in my opinion.
TA is responsible for grading assignments which take several weeks to get back with little to no feedback. 5 books assigned that were tedious and long. 15 written assignments, 2 50 question tests and 5 quizzes.
Taken online - very well paced. Assignments were not taxing. Interesting subjects. Tests were fine as long as you are prepared - make outlines of each module, do the readings, put in some effort and you'll do just fine.
Professor Geiger displays a unique and interesting perspective on refugees and ethnographic research. His grading is fair and the information is engaging.
Want to know your grade throughout the course? Too bad and be prepared to buy a bunch of books.
Geiger is... an interesting character. This class has no visual aids whatsoever, so you just say a hail mary and write down whatever he's saying and hope it's on the test. He's pretty hard to follow so it's eh. We're 7 weeks into the semester and our first exam isn't until next week, so who knows how that will go. There's a toooon of reading too.
Actually 3274 He was awesome, let me redo an assignment with a poor grade. His online class is super easy due dates are literally always subject to change. But he doesn't grade harshly. You can literally press control find for all the answers in the modules while taking the test that's what I did and I didn't but the books.
Average professor. Average level of difficulty. There is a lot of really boring reading assignments. You have a writing assignment every week. You need to study for tests or you will not do well. There is a lot of into given. Subject matter is pretty boring compared to other ANT classes. Study and read, and you will do fine with this prof.
If you don't learn well with lectures alone, DON'T take him. I really enjoyed his lectures, because they were interesting and challenging, but he doesn't use powerpoints. He just stands there and talks. Geiger clearly knows his stuff, but he can come across as a little too much. Use an older edition of the textbook, it's cheaper.
If you do not attend his lectures, you will more than likely not pass. If you need help during the course, just ask. Lots of writing, but he gives useful feedback. Only downside is you have to manually calculate your grade throughout the semester.
Ridiculously easy A. One of the textbooks (talked about a Creek or something, not quite sure) was only used for the first few weeks of class and was never touched upon again. Assignments are short and easy to complete, and the professor grades well and doesn't ask for a lot. Most assignments can be completed with a sentence or two answer.
A LOT of pieces and parts to lectures, with few videos, mostly all word documents, usually written in shorthand.
WARNING HAVE TO BUY 5 BOOKS FOR CLASS! I didn't mind reading them as much as finding them and buying them. A LOT of work for an online class. Interesting material. Weekly readings, and book tests every 2-3 weeks. I felt like I lost a lot of material from taking it online. Word documents always mentioned discussing info more in class.
Lots of reading and writing but is very easy with grading..... if he grades it. Takes weeks for it to be graded and he has grade calculation turned off so you have no clue as to what your grade could be
This class is a joke. I wish I can give him a zero. it doesn't matter how your homework looks like he would keep complaining about it. Well, if you want me to write you a newspaper please ask me to do so. NOT, A Simple question and then blame the student for not answering the question because you expect a newspaper answer
Tests are a little bit tricky but homework amount is very decent. However, Technically Professor Vance is your professor but the person who grades the student work is his assistant. So, I'm gonna leave you with your imagination for what kind of grades you would get!!!
Get ready to read! The good thing is the Professor has most all books in PDF so no need to buy. However, very hands-off approach for the online class. He is available during office hours; however no real assistance to further understand material - just read.
I have taken two classes with Dr. Geaiger and overall I would definitely recommend him. By no means is his class an easy A, yet very passable if you put the time and effort in that you/I are paying for. His classes usually consist of three exams and 1-2 assignments/quizzes a week. Bottom line, do the assignments and you will pass.
I have taken Geiger twice. The first time I had surgery and he was super willing to accommodate me and my recovery schedule. The classes are clear and the tests have some humor throughout them that make the class light hearted. Not too difficult if you read the documents. I would take any class that he has.
I would recommend this course. Although there is a lot of work you can easily receive an A. I did not read the textbooks although it would have helped with some of the homework. The people grading the hw are usually picky.
This class was so-so. I liked that he gave a lot of info typed into word/pp docs that could be read. The few video lectures he did offer were bland and awkward as they were just him talking while sitting at his desk. Didn't read the text but it was helpful to find info. Assignments were short and easy, but didn't learn much.
Professor Geiger was.... a lot to say the least. He'd tend to stray away from the topics we're learning in class to talk about his own personal experiences (which had nothing to do with the topic we were learning). The class is VERY dependent on his online material and the book, so get that. Even though I got an A, I wouldn't take this class again.
I loved Dr. Geiger's classes. I took him for two years now. He offers weekly online chats, gives good feedback and is very caring. Would definitely take him again.
Ok, I'm in this guy's class right now, and I genuinely don't know how I'm going to pass his exams. The weekly homework is nebulous, vague, and ridiculous. He assures you that the first book will be available in PDF form for those of us who can't afford to pay 99 bucks for a textbook right away, but only provides four chapters. Not worth the trouble
Easy A if you agree with the professor and his experiences and opinions. Did not use textbook. Few discussions, quizzes often, few tests, and a lot of reading. Gives enough time for tests at least.
Perspectives on refugees online. 10 easy writing assignments. 2 small cheap books required and used. 3 exams that have some tricky wording, but the exam review helps and most of the questions tell you where to look in the book or module. Plenty of time to do them. 1 PP project due at the end. Easy grader. Wish you could see your grade though.
A decent bit of reading. More than his refugees class. 10 assignments, 2 exams. I thought these assignments were harder than the refugee assignments, but the exams were easier. Tried to watch the video lectures, but the audio was so bad I gave up. Grading is straight forward and so is the feedback. Going to keep taking this professor!
Everything is very straight forward, quizzes and tests are open notes and a few discussions to do. Everything was online, and just had to complete assignments by the due dates, which you have more than enough time to do. Loved this class and the way it was set up! There are 20 quizzes and the highest 15 are counted
Assignments are based on lecture, so online textbook is not required. Dr. Geiger is funny and obviously experienced in cultural anthropology. The tests are ridiculously easy online and open book. Attendance isnt mandatory because he basically posts the material verbatim in Webcourses.
An easy class! There's long readings sometimes but you can get away with skimming it. The quizzes and exams are open note with plenty of time to do them. There's a required book but you need it at most 5 times so I suggest renting if anything.
There's not a lot you have to read in the textbook, just a few things. He posts most of the material online, so be prepared to read! There's three exams I think and some quizzes. It's a simple, easy class.
Take this professor, you won't regret it! Not only is his class extremely interesting, the course is laid out in a very easy to understand way. Assignment are clear, feedback is good & constructive, and I would take him 100 more times if I could.
I enjoyed Professor Geiger's course a lot. You do not need to attend the class as all the information is online, but this was not a subject that came to me easily so I find a lot of benefits from attending the lecture. Tests (3) are open note and there is one short weekly assignment. I will miss Dr. Geiger a lot because he is kind and super funny.
Great Professor! Already taken him for 3 classes. Very clear and organized, doesn't make you read a bunch of books, he types his own concise modules and slides. Exams are open-book online and often repeat questions from the quizzes.
You only need the textbook for 5 quizzes, so definitely try renting it. Everything is open note. The weekly work load is about a quiz or two a week, 3 or 4 exams, and one discussion post a month. Very easy content to learn and understand! Prof also has very accessible office hours if you need them.
One of the best teachers I have taken. Simple class no extra crap. If you just want to learn and do straight forward work this is the guy. He lectures every week on zoom which I respect and you will not go into a test or exam blindly. I also learned a lot and retained the info. I am taking him again next term
While the class itself wasn't difficult, Professor Geiger made it semi-stressful because of the amount of reading involved. The exams had VERY specific questions on the reading material which made getting an A not the easiest thing. Also, the syllabus was vague and it was hard to get in contact with Geiger. Overall the class was okay.
Took this in person during Summer B. Dr. Geiger knows what he is talking about and is very passionate about the subject and it shows. He is very straightforward. Lectures are not necessary but it does help because he goes over exactly everything we need to write on our assignments to get full credit. Lots of content but he is super chill.
Ok professor but really dry lecturing style and module pages were quite boring. Rent the textbook through Amazon (it's small but packed with really cool info). Course itself was pretty easy mostly just quizzes and a few discussions.
Take the online class. Lightwork. If you get anything below an A, I don't know what to say.
Nice dude, and the material is easily digestible. The textbook is a bit dull but I could skim through it easy enough. He won't show your grade but chances are you can calculate how much points you need to realistically make an A.
Pretty easy class, Dr. Geiger posts notes online so the assignments are easy if you read them and follow the grading instructions. Attendance isn't graded but there is some information that he only covers in class and not in the online notes.
Reviews are overrated, he's just like many other lecturers-- dry and boring. Half the class wasn't showing up by the end of the semester. Seems like he may have been just going through a rough patch because everybody seems to love him prior to this semester. Tests are easy and I didn't read the textbook once because he wrote his own modules to read
He's pretty average. He was a little eccentric, but it was funny. The class was kind of dry, which made his lectures a little boring, and barely anyone showed up. Nice guy, average teacher, easy class
He's very nice and has a lot of experience with what he's talking about. He just does lectures, and they were really interesting at first, but many students stopped going as the semester went on. If you're looking to fill a GEP this is a super easy class for that.
Respectfully- this dude sucks. Lectures are LONG and BORING... and not "omg there's too much info & none of it is interesting", but "oh my god this man won't stop ragging on previous students and going on BORING and IRRELEVANT tangents". He mumbles, doesn't finish sentences/ thoughts, and is RUDE. He cultivates a very HOSTILE learning environment
I personally found his lecturing style kinda boring so I stopped attending the classes. However, it was still easy to pass while relying on just the online material. The 5 lowest quizzes are dropped and tests tend to be word for word from the quizzes. It doesn't take much effort to do well in the class!
Not very well organized, but it is a ridiculously easy class. You don't need the textbook because most of what you're tested on is in the online modules he's written out himself. Beware of misleading wording in quizzes; it is almost like he is trying to trick you into choosing the wrong answer.
Easy class but not very organized. Grade calculations are off the entire semester so you don't know what your grade is. You also can't calculate it yourself because the reference he gave on the syllabus does not match how many assignments he gives. Quizzes are easy but the exams are annoying.
My biggest gripe is the exams open on the weekends. Overall, a very easy course. There are discussion posts that are required by the course but cannot be accessed through the modules tab. If you took general anthropology, it is almost a carbon copy of the curriculum.
I took this class online, and the modules are not very well organized. His writing can be confusing, bland, and full of grammatical errors. Very easy class though, two short quizzes per week and 3 discussion assignments total. If you want to learn something, don't take this class. If you want an easy A, this is the class for you. Textbook is free.
Took one-two quizzes every Monday, had three tests over semester, and three discussion posts. Class was so easy, and I 100% recommend this professor. I never had to worry about my grade in this class.
So easy. All modules are available at the beginning of the course, so I basically finished it in a week. You just have to be aware of exam & the 3 discussion dates. Most exam questions are repeated from quizzes, which you have ~ 2 of per week. Textbook is free and you can just ctrl + F through it. A lot of reading but you DON'T need to do it all!
3 exams + weekly online essay responses. exams were pretty easy, i didn't even read anything at all or studied + i received full marks on the weekly essay responses. he's super chill. very easy for an honors course so this could count towards an easy lower-division honors requirement!
Geiger's class is a very standard online course, but the set due dates on assignments will help those who can't pace themselves. The textbook is a free download but the assignments and exams rarely require reading it, instead you read a handful of self-contained articles explaining the topic. He's easy to contact, although not very tech savy.
Overall fine class with exams that while are specific, are open-note and you have 3 hours to complete. HOWEVER, and this may just be the semester I took the class, the TAs are AWFUL. There was one who would refuse to give me higher than a 7/10 on a discussion post and would not explain why. Be aware of this lmao.
Only 5 assignments and 2 long exams but they were open notes. He gives very useful feedback and lets you resubmit an assignment if it's completely wrong and you submit it fairly early. He attaches specific episodes, excerpts from books and explanations/summaries so you don't have to sift through the entire book to read the relevant parts.
Pretty easy class overall. The modules are straightforward and the quizzes are mostly based on the textbook you can just skim through. unstuck study was a great tool for prepping the exams. Not the most engaging lectures, but you can still do well by just focusing on the key info.
Dr. Geiger's cultural anthro class was very easy and very fun to learn in. The lectures had great info and fun stories, however they were not mandatory and all of the information and power points were posted onto canvas along with the quizzes and tests, so this class could theoretically be taken fully online (I still recommend going to class tho)
Everything is directly from the reading and quizzes are open note and not timed. The canvas is not setup in the best way but the quizzes and test will tell you where to look. Easy A.
10 assignments and 2 exams. Exams are multiple choice and you get 3-4 hours but it'll only take you 1. All assignments are written responses but not hard. Just do the reading and you're gonna get an A.
Incredible professor. Would absolutely want him again, he's funny when he wants to be. Always studied for this class.
Dr. Geiger is a good professor. He mainly does speaking lectures on the criteria and what he has done to contribute to cultural anthropology. It is very interesting to learn about. Very easy class, you just read (very little reading honestly, compared to other classes), you listen to his lectures, and then you take quizzes. That is it.
Dr. Geiger's cultural anthro class is one of the least stressful classes I've taken and the topics are actually interesting. Exams+Quizzes make up most of the grade with a few discussions in between. Some late submissions are allowed which helps when you have other overwhelming classes. Lockdown browsers are used but the exams/quizzes aren't hard.
He's really funny and clearly knows a lot about what he's teaches but his voice is so monotone it's hard to pay attention lol He posts the modules, all tests and quizzes are taken online with LockDown. My only problem is he has our grades locked all semester but it's hard not to pass. Make up exam at the end of the semester so he's pretty lenient.
