She is an amazing teacher that really brings the subject to life. She likes to teach and it really shows. She's really funny too and makes me want to come to class.
phenomenal teacher. enjoys and knows her stuff very well and it shows in her ckear concise lectures. 2 papers and 3 exams. gives study guide for exams in advance wich is very helpfull, if you go to class there should be no reason for not doing well.
She really enjoys the subject herself which is always helpful to the students. She tries her best to help you.
Great Teacher. Her lectures are so interesting. She is funny, and makes going to class fun. Two essays. Not bad. Tests are multiple choice like 25 questions. Can be tough. She gives study guide and goes over it, But her questions are ambigious and can be hard to answer. Do good on essays to boost score. Even though tests are hard, class is great!
Gunther is the best and most energetic teacher I have had yet. You can tell she loves the subject and loves teaching, this energy makes you want to learn. She is a great story teller, so her lectures dont seem like lectures at all. Do the study guides and ask questions, she will be happy to answer them for you.
Very interesting teacher. She makes history interesting rather than boring. She was always cheerful and upbeat. reading material was reasonable because she gave a study guide out before starting every unit. took this over summer. 3 tests 25 questions each 100 points each test. you will enjoy her class
interesting lectures. requires a few papers, so not THE easiest. quirky sence of humor, too. recommended.
honestly.. i get so hooked on her lectures. they're very interesting, not to mention entertaining =]
She rules! She's witty & her humor helps you learn. Allows rewrites for a better grade & offers constructive comments. This class had *a lot* of reading, but it didn't matter, b/c if you pay attention in seminar, you'll pick up anything you missed. I'm going to take her as much as possible.
I took this class and wondered how I was to write an eliptical paper concerning Hegel,Marx, Comet, etc and to have read an understand these insane philosophical people... Her precis' are ridiculous and if you do not understand the books, you might as well drop the course. She may be funny but this class is not esp. with books that make no sense.

Absolutely precious. Extremely willing to help you out if you have any questions. Likes to tell stories so we often times had to push tests back or rush through lectures. However, she's very entertaining and very kickback.
Her lectures are like story time, very interesting. You need the main book, not the little ones.she give you a study guide at the beginning of each unit. The class is a combination of the book and lecture.she has review sessions.they are extremely helpful so make sure you go!I got an A in the class, but I put effort into it.4 tests,no essays.
Not a bad class. Would have liked more grades than just 4 exams. She gave the class an optional extra credit lecture to attend (10 points). overall thumbs up from me.
AMAZING professor, you don't even have to like history to enjoy her class! Sit near the front, attend every lecture (more like story time) and write down everything she says not just what she puts on the board. I never read the books and got an A in the class.
Easiest teacher ever! dont have to go to class, just review, or read. Shes understandable and will help you out if you miss some class or cant understand the material. Loved it, i hate history and loved this class, very funny.
Very thorough & colorful teacher. She brings dead people to life! Well stories about dead poeple, at least. Don't talk bad about Alexander Hamilton and you'll do fine in the class. Tests are usually 25Q and a short essay/answer. Class isn't mandatory. If you go and take good notes, you won't need a book. Everything on tests is on study guides.
She makes learning fun. She acts out the scenes in History right before your eyes. She is very energetic. Thumbs UP!!!!!!!
If you want a teacher that is high energy and knows the material and keeps your attention then this is the professor for you. History is incredibly hard for most but Professor ****her makes it a blast. If anyone out there needs to fulfill their history requirements and doesn't know who to take. I have only one name for you, ****her.
I never liked history, but she makes it so much fun. It's just like story time. Study guides very helpful. Go to class take good notes, easy A.
I love this professor. I wish she taught every class at CSUF. I never really liked history classes but she made this class so interesting and enlightening! She should be making six figures because she's really good at what she does.
she is an awesome teacher!shes really fun and makes the class go by so quickly. I never really used the book its all about study guides. only reason i have a C is because im not trying but take her!
4 tests make your grade, the tests are directly almost word for word from her study guides, and she even tells you what essays she is going to have on the test so you can prepare. Don't really need to go to class, but make sure you have all the correct answers to the study guides and memorized, then you will get an A.
she is the best!! shes so adorable and funny! i took it once a week at night and surprisingly i didnt fall asleep! just pay attention to lecture, she gives out study guides for the midterms and and its not a commulative final! i got a C bc i didnt study and just blew class off, but just take really good notes and dont buy the book!!
Without a doubt, the best teacher I've ever had. She makes everything in history into a JK Rowling story you'd read in a book. She likes to compare things to harry potter and disney. and she makes the tests incredibly easy. I failed the class, but that's because I didn't try at all. and I'm taking the same class next semester. TAKE IT!
****her's class is easy! I have no interest in history whatsoever, and I took this class once a week at night. She makes everything into a crazy story to actually keep your interest. She hates text books, and has one for the class, but take good notes during lecture and you won't need it. Attendance is not mandatory. Surprisingly interesting.
Only take this class if you need to bring down your GPA for some ridiculous reason. No extra credit. Very dry lectures. She makes up a different test for every student and it's impossible to read through her sarcastic choices in multiple choice (entire grade reflects your performance on these psycho tests) to find the answer. Don't waste your GPA
Great prof. Strait lecturing, but humorous. Will clarify any points and will stay after class to bull**** if you are into history or politics. Mult. choice can be difficult, but she is happy to help if you ask. Just make sure to know everything on the study guide thoroughly. I'm taking another with her next sem.
She is an awesome person in general. I didn't pass the class, for the second time, but that's just because I suck at history. If you read the book and really listen during her lectures, then you should be fine. I found her to be stinkin' hilarious and she has a very dry/sarcastic sense of humor that you must love. Good experience.
Dr. ****her is an outstanding teacher. She knows her subject well and communicates it with humor and enthusiasm. She expects you to work, but will bend over backwards to help you do well. Will take her again!
She is such a great professor! Every class was one big exciting story about something. You do need the textbook to study because she might not cover everything in her lectures on her study guide. The class is really fun but you need to study in advance to get a good grade because only 4 tests makeup your grade so good luck!
History: Survey America. One of the funniest, outgoing teacher ever! she makes history alive!! so fun! 3 Test all multiple choice/short essay EASY! jst review lectures no book needed!jst attend her class she gives all the study guide and ask her and she gives all the answers to the test and the essay! Final is 3test combined~ very easy and fun!
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! I thoguth I was doing well and memorized everything on the study guides. My GPA was 3.6 but the C I received in this course brought that down significantly. Take someone else unless you want to study like it's a physics course!
She is a very funny professor. But if you are a person who learns visually, do not take her. Her lecture notes consist of her writing a few words on the board, and it is hard to get every detail. Don't get me wrong, she is a great teacher, but if you're horrible at history (like me), don't take her.
Tests are not easy, but they are fair. Everything else is great. Very clear about what you need to know, will answer any questions you have on test day before she hands it out, even if it means reviewing half the study guide. Passionate about subject. Easy B, unless you don't try/pay attention.
She's hilarious! She reminds me of Ellen Degeneres. Her lectures feel more like I'm watching stand-up comedy. Her tests are kind of hard, but it's fair. The written part of the exam is actually easier than the multiple choice. If you're debating whether to take her or not, I definitely say yes.
I love her as a person. She's hilariously great. But her exams are challenging (I am not an idiot either; I've taken AP Hist. courses). I would recommend her class, but only if you resign to the fact that you will work hard and walk away with a B.
Dr Gunther makes history lectures fun with her comedy sense of humor. But beware; her tests can be extremely tricky. I learned a lot in her class but I think her grading curve is off by a letter grade. Plan to work hard and get a lower grade than expected for this class. Other then that it was a fun and a great learning experience. Take her class!
LOVED HER! going to class was like watching someone perform a comedy show. She acts out topics that would otherwise be boring. Make sure to read the text and study for the tests because they are a bit tricky. If you don't enjoy history, she'll definitely change your outlook on it.
Best Teacher I have ever had. Most fun I've had in a History class. I learned so much from her
I definitely loved her class! She made history fun and I always looked forward to taking her class. She uses humor which helped most of us students get through the class. If you need to satisfy your U.S. History requirement take her!
She is awesome! Made it so much fun to go to class and learn about the past. Great attitude and very helpful, if all my classes were like this i wouldn't mind learning!
She's very passionate about history, and she is very easy to talk to if you have questions. She makes a lot of jokes and she tells stories, but the material is still presented clearly. Not an easy A, but not difficult either. Awesome professor, definitely take her class!
She is THE BEST...ever!
Love her! Not an "easy A" but a very passable professor. She's super funny and interesting (I looked forward to attending her class) and has an interest in her subject that will make you interested as well. This was the second class I took from her and I'm taking another next semester. You'll be lucky if you get Gunther as a professor.
Her lectures are sometimes entertaining. She is a hard grader on the essays. Multiple choice exams can be tricky and she also throws in questions that she has not gone through or explained. She is not helpful at all.
I hate history - but she made the class fun. She's approachable if you're having trouble grasping the material. Definately someone I would take again.
Very entertaining teacher... If you pay very close attention to her lectures...you don't really need the book. She goes over everything that will be on the exams, which is great! She is a bit tough on essays, but there are only three of them, two page minimum...and in my class she gave us an alternate assignment for one. Overall, great teacher!
The grading curve is off by one letter grade; also she is into herself way too much. Next to none she did treat certain ethnic groups differently?
She was amazing and made class fun. The class is kind of hard and you really need to listen to her. She also grades hard on essays, but if you show up to class and ask question its an easy class.
Great professor!Lectures were very entertaining even though they were on power point! Definitely recommend this class. oh just one thing, she is a hard grader on the papers so take your time writing those! Hope this helped!
Fantastic and incredibly hilarious professor! You honestly do not need to buy the texts; we never discussed them. Overall, the course material is simply a reiteration of topics discussed in a typical US History survey course; it's not that difficult. Three papers, no exams, and all Powerpoints are posted on Blackboard. Highly recommended course.
nice and helpful. responds to emails quickly. material is difficult throughout, but that won't change with professor. funny and tries to get you interested in topic. classes are discussion based and super short. precis are difficult to grasp but not bad-just a weekly assignment. no exams. would take her again.
Good class. You will definitely learn a lot - it was a mind expansion every single class. Weekly assignments based on readings. The reading can be quite tedious, but overall I would take her again. No exams.
Funny + interesting = story time. Provides power-point, Museums = EC, frequent quizzes from notes/reading, exams based on quizzes, multiple choice, no final, no exact dates/time, Overall an effortless B, and an Easy A. Use the Study Guide and take careful notes, then no text-bk needed.
Her class is structured around weekly reading assignments & class discussion. The materiel can be challenging, however, she goes out of her way to make the class fun. She is totally approachable and grades fair. As long as you turn in the weekly assignments and participate, you'll be fine.
She doesn't usually do this class. Sweet. Brings cookies. Knows her stuff. All discussion. You lead 2 discussions, meaning you read the material and present it to the class as a group. Two ID exams. One 5-7 page paper on a topic of your choice. Sign-in sheet. Tough grader. If you like to be challenged, take her. Highly recommend.
She is one of the best professors at csuf!! She helped me understand so many different history texts and challenged me to think beyond just the written text. There were just weekly assignments and no exams. There is a pretty heavy load of reading but it was definitely worth it.
I am an A slash B student when it comes to history, so I decided to take her... but I had to work throughout the semester to getting my grade up. The highest test grade I got in that class was an 82 and it was the final. I barely got an 80, but I enjoyed attending her class! It was hard work, but it paid off in the end. Take her if you want.
Amazing class, you should try to take it with her if you can! She's so sweet, funny, and adorable. She makes history so easy to understand! This made me wish I was a history major, just so I could take more classes with her!
She is funny and nice. I was sometimes confused as to what she was talking about but as long as you the assignments and participate you should be okay. She had no tests just weekly assignments which were a work load, for example a book had to be read every week, they weren't too long though.
Definitely not an easy A. Her tests are very detailed so take good notes. (3) Tests, NOT cumulative. Offers EC. 1 2-3 page paper but she grades it hard. 1 HW assignment. TXTBOOK is useless.
History book not needed unless you really want a higher grade (as a study). Otherwise, she'll lecture all of the things that will be on the test. Exams seemed easy but I could never score over a C. 50 questions multiple choice. She's a very energetic professor who likes to act out all of her lectures so it's definitely not boring. Lots of writing!!
Easy class. Interesting professor. Textbook not necessary.
Hated this professor. Her lectures are confusing and she jumps around from topic to topic and makes it hard to take notes and to stay focused. Her tests are easy if you know the material which you probably won't. My class was constantly asking for extra credit because grades were so low. The only thing that was good was her sense of humor and wit.
Actually read the books! She goes kind of fast but the books will clarify, record her lectures, take thorough notes, tests are easy but for some reason everyone failed the first one, one paper and offers extra credit, we got her to push back two tests so nag, and ask for quizzes before tests they are all questions on the test! All you need to know!
Very hard class for a GE. You really have to study and read the book if you want to do well in this class. She is extremely entertaining during class, but you do not really learn anything. It is hard to understand what she is just joking about and what you actually need to know for the test. One essay that could save your grade and three tests.
she is just horrible professor. I like her sense of humor, but she never gives a good grade.
Funny, entertaining teacher. Very passionate about her work. Makes history turn into a fun story
I have always wanted to become a teacher and now I have a sense of how to receive respect, a good laugh, and an interested class. She is very sweet and helped me during her office hours. I would definitely recommend her but I did notice that some students didn't even give the material a chance.
I can't believe how easy she made this class. The grade was based on four tests, and the fourth was a non-cumulative final. The tests are word-for-word what she says in her funny, insightful, interesting, and memorable lectures and study guides; thus, I did not really need to read. Although some are tangents, they were still entertaining. Easy A.
Her lectures were long and pretty entertaining but it was difficult to separate what was important information in her lectures and what was just stories she included to keep us awake. Her tests were fairly difficult because of how they were worded.
Class is based off of four exams. The fourth exam is your final. Provides power points but goes over in detail during class. Easy A if you print out questions to consider at the end of each PowerPoint before class and answer them during her lectures. Never used textbook. Makes the lectures enjoyable and I would take her again if I had the chance.
3 exams and 1 non-cumulative final. No homework. Her lectures are interesting and funny enough to keep you attentive and present. All powerpoint lectures on Titanium, but lectures give the details you need to know for the tests. I actually kinda liked going to class, when I did. She's a really chill and fun teacher.
She is a great professor, passionate, and very funny. Although her first test will pop you a good one if you aren't actually prepared. It was the hardest GE class I have taken thus far. 3 tests! No EC!
If you are taking this as a GE requirement, best of luck. Professor is vague on what she expects from you and an extremely tough grader. Don't bother asking for help, she will redirect you to the books. Syllabus doesn't help with the prompts for your paper either. You watch 10 films & write 8 synopsis. Unhelpful professor but she is humorous.
Great with her lectures. She is very funny and relaxed, she doesnt stress me out. 3 Exams and Final is Non- Cumulative and she offers extra credit ONLY when more than a majority of the class isn't there.
She is an awesome professor. She makes teaching fun and animates details with what she teaches. She also makes hilarious remarks.
She's AMAZING! If I could I would take her for every class. I always looked forward to going to her class. She's so funny and she makes learning history fun. The way she lectures is as if she's telling a story so I remember everything when I take my exams. No homework. Just 3 exams and a final. She cares so much for the students and it shows. Love!
I'm so glad I took her class. She makes her lectures extremely interesting by telling history like its a story. At the end of her lectures she posts questions to consider. Those questions are essentially the study guide; it makes preparing for her tests a breeze. I always looked forward to her class.
It's a pretty easy class. I didn't even read the books she assigned, so that was a waste of money. Just make sure you go to the study sessions with the student assistant (if she has one) because it really does help.
The best history teacher I've ever had, her lecture don't just list off what happened, they tell a story and allow you to really understand what occurred. Easy tests as long as you go to class and pay attention to the lectures but that isn't hard because she's hilarious. 10/10 would recommend, not like other history classes!
GREAT PROFESSOR. make you enjoy history. she is super funny and she does lecture all her class but she' explains everything so well. only 4 tests and as long as you go over the questions to consider you will do very well on the tests. never opened the book.
Her class is difficult because there are only 3 exams. She doesn't give a study guide. You have to pay attention to her class and know everything to ensure that you do well on the test. If you aren't a great test taker, I suggest you not take this class. Don't buy the book! We don't use it.
With her permission, record her lectures so you can do the questions to consider easier. Do all the questions to consider. I read the book and it didn't really help. Just record it, trust me!!!
If test taking isn't your strength, don't take this instructor because the ONLY thing that's dependent for your final grade are four exams! That's it! No research paper, no homework, and no projects! But if you dislike outside class work, take her.
If you aren't a excellent test taker or you really need study guides, this professor isn' for you then. There are no homework, no projects, just 4 exams counts for total grade; although they are not cumulative, but they are not basic questions!
She is very hilarious, however, if you hate taking tests, then don't take her because you have nothing to balance your grade out; only exams count for total grade. VERY little extra credit, like 5 points!
SUPER HARD EXAMS. If you are a good test taker, this is the class for you. I am personally really bad at taking test. She has so many stories to tell, but it is hard to keep up with all the details. She doesn't give a real study guide. It's way too much to memorize especially just for a GE class. I would not take this class again.
She makes history enjoyable by all the stories she tells but can sometimes get off track. Her tests are a little difficult so you MUST answer the questions to consider at the end of each lecture (that's your study guide). Each exam is 50 multiple choice questions and an essay you turn in at the beginning of class. Show up and pay attention!
This is the thing, it is a lecture based class. So the upside is no reading but you have to engage in the lecture. The material is not hard at all and the exams are just a little tricky but the questions are given in her powerpoints. She is extremely nice & easy going. If you don't mind missing class & not reading this class is for you.
I really don't know what the other reviewers were talking, this is such an easy A class. The main thing that you need to focus on is to make flashcards with the questions at the end of the ppts. If you just keep up to date with them and use them to study it is such an easy class. She is also hilarious and makes morning classes worth it. Love her!
She is so sweet and she truly cares about your grade and your well being. She is passionate about what she does. Tests are not hard just make sure you take notes, pay attention to the lectures, and study a good amount before the test. A minimal effort will get you around a C but if you try getting an A will be a breeze.
If you are not a good test taker, don't take this instructor. The ONLY thing that counts for grade are the four exams, that's it. No research paper, homework and no group projects.
This class is lecture heavy. Tests were hard for me even for being an A student. I tried reading the book, and reviewing the notes but I never seemed to get a score better than a D. She is a nice professor, but exams are hard and lecture is heavy.
Lots and lots of reading for one quiz (16 total) Class is composed of 16 quizzes and 1 essay Apart from the reading, each quiz requires you to watch documentaries and powerpoint slides. Do not take if you don't have the time to deal with this class.
While I do understand discipline and focus, I dont get why this professor has delusional high standards even for lower division courses. She even claimed no one in her class has ever gotten an A, to which I ask why hasnt she changed her pedagogy. I barely survived this class and I feel she does could care less about students mental health
In my opinion, she didn't do a great job adapting her class to an online format. Her lectures were interesting, but some of the books she had us use were hard to get a hold of because of international shipping. She also doesn't give very clear directions for her papers, which are the only assignments she grades. Not bad but not my favorite.
Makes it nearly impossible to pass the class. It is a lower division course, but it seems as if it were an upper division course. Really difficult exams!!! Do not take her if possible!
This professor is super arrogant, rude, and non-helpful towards students. She made the class harder than it was supposed to be. Shes very tough on grading essays and is too specific to the point where it's difficult. I do not recommend taking her class!
Horrible professor!!! Especially because there is no sympathy towards students when it is because of students tuition that she gets paid. At least be more clear about grading!
Rude and misunderstanding professor. She is the worst! Avoid her at all costs!!!
Her tests are difficult and specific to the lecture, you have to do the reading. Her syllabus says tests are out of 100 but she gives you a 'bonus question' for 5 points. EXCEPT, she makes the tests out of 105 instead so its POINTLESS. Her syllabus says she doesnt do plus/minus grading but my entore class got graded with plus/minuses. Unfair prof
The course I took History 180 online was easy! Do the online work which takes a bit of time but it is easy as well. You have to purchase the online textbook and it helps all the answers are there. You take an exam after each section, I believe in total there were 8. I was a bit skeptical taking this course, but I'm glad I did.
This class was harder than it should've been. The only thing that counts for your grade are 6 exams, which were kind of hard. There's a lot of reading and you need to use Inquizitive. The lectures were long, but the professor tried to make it fun.
This woman needs an intervention. She brags about no one ever getting an A in her class ever. This shows she is dismissive of her students and sees them as enemies and not pupils. If her objective is to torture people into not pursuing history, she should change careers. Her pedagogy is a joke.
