Prof. Swaminathan is a great teacher. She is very fair and committed to teaching!! I learnt a lot about reading strategies!!

I took her at PCC and I must say she is a great Professor. Goes out of her way to help students. Essays can be hard at times, however, if you ask for help she will never turn you down. Always well organized and although she is tough, you will learn alot in her class.

Prof. Swaminathan's class is very informative and useful. She teaches us a lot of strategies. This helps the weaker students a lot. She is extremely organized and fair. Do take her if you are weak in English Writing and Reading.

You will learn so much from this professor. She is clear in her instructions and expectations. You MUST do the readings. She is always available for help. If you follow her guidelines, and do the reading for the class, you'll do well. If you want to learn, you'd be a fool not to take English 1A with this professor.

I find this professor to be very much helpful. She clearly explains everything to you, she makes sure you are up to date w/ assignments, she is encouraging and I find her to be a very valuable professor to work with. I started this class this semester and in the first test I got F. Prof. Swaminathan called me to her office and explained the lesson , and gave me extra practice, worksheets etc. She aslo tought me time management and lots of reading strategies.I read my first novel in her class. Awesome teacher! I took her for 415 and 130.She has you do a lot of work, but you will definitely learn something. If you don't want to do any work, or don't have the time, don't take her. But she will make sure you know how to read because of the various strategies she teaches. I hated reading before but now it is much easier.

Whoever rates this teacher really low is out of their mind! I took English 415 with this teacher and I have a learning disability and got a A- in this class. The teacher was clear, got everyone engaged, and broke down everything in a well fashion. I highly recommend this teacher to take for 415!

She's absolutely a cool teacher, will want to work with you in spare times, Not hard at all, got high scores. Just pay attention because whatEVER she said is important. Prioritizes students. Hello students, I took Eng 130 because I was weak in Reading. Prof. Swaminathan, taught us strategies and because of the many inclass activities we started to read. Professor Swaminathan's class, in my opinion, was very dull and dry. It lacked substance, or anything that interested me. I thought we would read more novels because the course description was "reading". However, just because I didn't like the class doesn't mean she isn't a good teacher. Professor Swaminathan is a kind professor. If you're unclear or unsure about the directions, she will help you out. As for the lectures and homework, they were uninterestingly boring to me. Nonetheless, that shouldn't detract from her good teaching methods. There's a big group project towards the end of the semester. Do well on it.

She is very nice! She is very organized and explains the assignments as clear as she can. Easy A if you do every assignment. Also, she is very helpful. There is no way you won't pass her class. Doesn't give a lot of homework, so there is no excuse for you not to do it.

If you are not willing to spend your time to do the reading center assignments, please don't take this class, you are not going to pass the class if you don't do your reading center assignment.

She is an amazing teacher. I learned so much from her this semester, I even feel bad not having her class again. Expect homework, she is strict so if she says she is going to close the door on time, listen to her she won't open and don't knock you look stupid for not paying attention in class when it comes to rules.

Professor Swaminathan was pretty awesome. The homework was routine, a lot of reading, but it was often interesting. Same thing each time. Discussion group and then a short responce. Only had one essay, that was the Final. She gives back detailed feedback and even gives her personal opinion on likes and dislikes for thing similar to your work.

She's one of the best English professors I've ever had. She is very understanding, very polite and nice but she is also strict when it comes to deadlines, unless she sees a struggle in the classroom as a whole. She also assigns a lot of homework and counts it as a fair portion of your overall grade. The frequent group projects keeps class fun.

A decent teacher. Her lectures can be kind of boring and the book choices for assignments are boring as well. But overall a decent professor.

Good teacher

Class is easy, do all homework, read the assigned books. Don't even have to worry about the midterm or the final. The only hassle in the class is the reading lab, it's just so tedious. Finish everything in the reading lab first so you don't have to worry about it. Although she's a little uptight with how she manage her class but it's not a problem.

Lots of reading, assignments werent too bad or that many. Not much room for improving your grade so make sure to at least submit something even if its not good so you dont get a 0. Take your time on the tests.

The class was very engaging and I appreciate the constant feedback and how she chose to go about our learning. I loved having the opportunity to do corrections and the feedback made it possible for me to understand clearly. I loved the opportunity to explore the topics, follow my line of thoughts and draw my own conclusions. This helped my writing.

I enjoyed writing essays, and learned to better my writing. The course was very well organized and was totally stress free because of the teacher. I gained knowledge on the different formats to write an essay, grammar, citations, and reading strategies. I will definitely recommend Prof Swaminathan to any student who wants to take Engl 1A.

I never thought I was that great of a writer but this class was super easy. Lowest essay grade I got was a 92. Show up, pay attention, do the work and you'll be fine. I never really struggled too much even when I fell behind. We wrote 5 essays in 1 semester but it wasn't bad. Only issue is sometimes she isn't clear/contradictory but she is lenient

easy A if you follow her guidelines. 5 essays including a research paper. topics are interesting and writing them is enjoyable. she is very kind and passionate in teaching and works hard to get her students to succeed. turn in assignments on time. you'll probably learn more about writing in her class than in all your high school years.

However, now closing in on the end of the sem, I could claim that my grammar has made a tremendous improvement and that I have become an avid reader and an effective writer. All thanks to the Professor's homework and references. This is a READING and WRITING class, do the work and you'll learn & pass.

Attendance is mandatory and her lectures can be really detailed and repetitive but she is clear about her requirements and grading. I did well on the essays but she has a good amount of homework and classwork that adds up so do it. She really does want her students to pass her class so she lets people turn in things late.

She has a thick accent so be ready for that. There is a lot of papers and assignments regarding the books you need for the class, so you have to bring them or shell take away points. She lets you turn in assignments late but sometimes she takes away points and sometimes she doesnt. Overall really easy if you turn everything in and try.

Prof. Swaminathan is an amazing but tough professor. If you just want credit for the class, don't take her. She gives a heavy workload, and it involves a lot of reading. But if you want to learn, she's perfect. She really helps students write proficient essays and gives good feedback. Your success really depends on you and the effort you put in.

I dont know what her class is like in person, but online she was supportive, accessible, and understanding. I found her class challenging while still being entirely doable. If you pay close attention to the prompts and do the reading she is not stingy at all with points. I feel like she really gives you the basic skills to succeed in other classes

Whoever needs to take English 1A take professor Swaminathan. She explains every assignment clearly and is an easy grader. She provides prompts and many examples which is awesome! I was struggling in this class but she helped me to get a better grade, I learned a lot taking this course and this professor is the most understanding professor, understood my situation and gave me credit even for overdue assignments. She is tough with some assignments but it's weekly assignments, however an amazing teacher.

I took this class during spring 2022. She might come off REALLY passive aggressive but she does care about her students. The classwork itself it's okay. The first weeks feels a lot with the journal but it gets a lot easier when you go into the readings. YOU HAVE TO PRINT A LOT OF PAPERS. EASY GRADER

Prof. Swaminathan truly cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed. She's one of the most down to earth professors I've had. Class is heavily based on writing papers (about 5 of them) but instructions are very clear and she explains them very thoroughly. Highly recommend her class.
