Great professor. Truly knows the material. Extremely helpful and wants students to do good in class. Be sure to attend all classes and labs, he rewards students for showing up always and participating. Do all the homeworks and lab reports. Exams can be a little tough but if you do the assignments and study you'll do fine. Powerpoint notes provided.
Unless you're willing to play teacher's pet and don'r mind trying to be his favorite, don't take this guy. Yes he knows his material well but he's not a great teacher. Reads from power point so the class is super boring and he has high expectations from your lap reports. Also has moodle assignments.
Don't take him. He does not have a clue on how to teach
He knows his material well and cares a lot about his students. If you want to learn, you will do well. If you want to do the minimum, you will get lost.
He will give you as much, help, advice , and extra time as you need. Lab reports can take a long time but everything you could need is in the class notes or the textbook.
It’s a tough course, if you don’t try. There is a lot of material to learn in this course. However, his ppt condenses the most important points you need to know. If you truly try to understand the material and do the assignments, you will get a good grade. In all, great teacher, knows the material well. Rewards effort, not laziness.
its a tough course, but his class notes are very helpful.
The class is difficult but the prof sends out powerpoint slides that help in doing problems. The prof is also helpful in office hours and very willing to assist you in things that you're not understanding. Also, he's a fair grader. Work hard and go to office hours and you should do well in the class.
The prof is a nice person that is very willing to help his students. The course requires hard work but it gives you a good experience in technical writing. I'd definitely advise his students to go to office hours for help. The prof is a fair grader and really tries to work with students so that they can get the most out of the class.
He is a good professor, and tries to be helpful, as well as has an interesting background. However the course is very work intensive. Make sure to pay attention in class and do all the homework and labs if you want to pass with a good grade.
Good Professor always willing to provide extra help for students and wants to see them succeed. The book for this class is full of errors which can be frustrating but understanding the concepts and equations are what is important for success. I would recommend professor Samarazic to anyone who is willing to put effort into his class.
Professor does his best to help students. However, he does not show thorough knowledge of the course material, and has multiple times copied wrong solutions from the book to the board. The class takes effort, and homework is important if you want to do well. The professor is a really nice guy, so go to him if you need help.
The prof is a nice person that is very willing to help his students. It’s a tough course, if you don’t try. There is a lot of material to learn in this course.but if you go to class pay attention you will be OK.
He knows the material, But he doesn't know how to convey it to the students. He is helpful but being helpful and knowing how to teach are two different things. Bottom line if you want to learn take another professor, because this one does not teach well
Horrible teacher, he should learn the material before teaching it to the students. Exams range from fairly hard to absurdly Hard. Inconsistent grading also
I took ME 407 last semester and definitely Dr. Samardzic is one of the best teacher at NJIT , he gives power points to help you with the chapters and he is always glad to help you out any time.
The prof is a nice person that is very willing to help his students. It’s a tough course, if you don’t try. There is a lot of material to learn in this course.but if you go to class pay attention you will be fine.
The professor should learn to teach instead of reading a PowerPoint slide to the class.Heat transfer is about solving problems not reading a PowerPoint slide that you don't understand
Professor Samardzic has actually worked in the industry and provides a ton of knowledge to his students. The class was enjoyable, make sure you show up to the lecture, so you can do well. overall awesome class
The class is quiet challenging. He provides very good lecture slides, however reads right off them. He is very knowledgable and is willing to help, but has high hopes. Don't take him if you are not willing to put in the work, and do a LOT of reading.
Heat Transfer is known to be one of the most difficult courses in this curriculum.. Prof completelely relies on powerpoint slides in the course from start to finish, Prof DIDNT solve one single problem by hand!! You cant teach ME407 from powerpoint!! When asked questions, his reply was go read the book again...!!! Is new to the dept and has no clue
Dr. Samardzic does a good job of scraping together a lab course that hasn't been updated in years. He's very willing to help if you show interest and brings decent insight to the lab material. He has some pretty great stories as well.
Attendance is important, and try to be on time. If you follow instructions and keep up with the assignments, you will have no problem. He is a fair grader and always willing to offer extra help. I would highly recommend taking prof. Samardzic for ME lab II.
Take anyone apart from him. He teaches one of the hardest subjects in the ME dept. by using powerpoint slides. you will not learn from him because he doesn't understand the topics
Even though at times there may be a good amount of work to do, the professor is always willing to help. Exams for the ME Lab 2 class are completely reasonable and cover material learned from each of the lab experiments.
Heat transfer can be quite a challenging class but the professor puts a lot of effort into making and presenting slides during lecture on the course material. Just like in his other classes, Prof. samardzic is always willing to help students. Anyone who is having trouble with the course materials should always seek help from him during office hours
Lab 1 is a fairly straight forward class. The prof is very friendly and willing to help students. Keep up with attendance, learn the lab material and go to the prof for help and you should not have a problem doing well in class.
Quite possibly one of the smartest professors that I have ever had the privilege of knowing. He has a passion for the subjects that he teaches, and has impressive field experience. Could not suggest a better professor-IF YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO LEARN. If you are lazy and have no passion for what you are doing, do not bother.
A professor who has an in-depth knowledge what he teaches. His exams are hard but only because it requires you to use applied knowledge which will help you out in the long run.
Dr. Samardzic was a great professor. He seemed to genuinely care about the class and how much we understood about the subject he was teaching. Whenever I saw him after class, he was always more than willing to help and re-explain the subject. I also enjoyed when he told us about his previous experience in the field.
Great Professor. He makes great power points with all the information needed to learn each topic. If you are eager to learn the material, he will give extra help during his office hours to give you a better understanding of the topic. One of the few professors who will actually help you and has enthusiasm about what he is teaching.
Very good professor. He has interest in the material he teaches and tries to fill his students with that interest. May be harder than some other professors but if you are interested in gaining a full understanding of the material, he is the guy to take. Also, he is lenient with deadlines as long as you submit good work and don't abuse the system
After failing this class with another professor, i got into this class back in 2012 when he first started teaching it. I received an A+. He is very serious about your academics but extremely helpful and an awesome guy. He knows everything about the material and i loved the class. I would recommend him to any student!!
Dr. Samardzic is a great guy. He has a lot of knowledge and experience with Material Sciences. If you show that you care and work hard, he will work with you to help give you the best grade you deserve. He has expectations for his students, so don't disappoint him, he'll remember your name.
He does what he can with a boring class that you're required to take. As a teacher and as a person he expects effort out of you. If you have the right work ethic you'll be fine in his class, and will probably find the course simpler. He's very approachable and helpful to those who reach out and prefers that you do. Overall a very good professor.
I really learned a lot in his class, very knowledgeable about materials, makes sure you understand the topics and shares valuable real world experience as well.
This class was horrible. Somehow he finds a way to make an easy class difficult by giving us way too much information. We had a test that covered 18 chapters on our second test and the first test was only slightly better.
Professor Samardzic is a top-notch professor. He is very knowledgeable, very passionate about engineering, and very professional. He pushes his students to be professional and is very supportive and helpful. He also has a great sense of humor. I have had him for several classes and I always love the class, even difficult subjects like Metallurgy.
Great professor. He tries to include real life knowledge in a class that is mainly based on learning definitions for a bunch of different terms. Made what could have been a boring class bearable. Good sense of humor, and he will talk to you with respect and like a mature adult if you do the same. He actually cares if you learn, not just a grade.
The professor expects you to fully learn and understand all of the information presented. Many students get upset because of the poor grades they receive. There are no complicated mathematics, just conceptual understanding of metal material science. Only take this class if your really want to learn, not just to breeze by. BTW the project is fun
He is a really nice guy if you have a problem he will work with you to try and fix it. His test are difficult because they cover A LOT of material from the book and from his slides so PAY A LOT of attention to the slides and the homework do it 2 or 3 times!
Reads off PowerPoints. Wasn't able to do his own exam. Good intentions, but doesn't present concepts clearly.
Grades fairly, and knows the material well. The exams make sense and are pretty easy if you do the homework (assigned from the textbook). If you have to take ME 215, take it with this professor.
Samardzic is an amazing professor! Don't get overwhelmed by all the material from the booklectures, he will tell you EXACTLY what you need to know for the exams. Homework problems are also a lot of help, expect to see lots of those on exams. Powerpoints can be found online, huge help. Great teacher, definitely taking him for Mech lab in the future
Overall a great professor. Very clear and concise when explaining any topic and grabs your attention. He expects a lot out of each one of his students and did his best to allow everyone to do as well as they could.
The guy is pretty nice. He has some funny jokes here and there. Make sure you read and write down the things he emphasizes on. Expect some extra credit questions to come from home work problems.
This class is a hard course so expect to feel like you are going to fail. He is a hard grader just study as much as you can if he sees improvement you should have no trouble passing. Overall he is alright he care and has intentions for you to pass. Make sure you do good on the final project!!!!!!!!!!!!
Professor Talks too much. Always talks about his achievements. He is like an empty vessel.
Very well prepared lecture. Easy to follow.
Heat Transfer is not his specialty. He is a very good teacher and a cool guy. You can go to him whenever you need help and he will try his best to help you. His tests are easy if you know the material. He does grade tough but the curve evens things out. If you are not the typical NJIT slacker you will be OK.
Any one can read a power point
Awesome Professor. Knows his stuff. At the end of the semester you will get what you deserve.
Dr. Veljko is a good guy. He uses slide to teach and he is straight forward. Exams are closed to lecture notes and homework. He takes too many points off. Don't even try to cheat !!. I like him very much. I had two classes with him and I got B for both.
Pathetic example of a "professor". His teaching style is horrendous and outright poor. Powerpoint is the only source, seems extremely bored by what he teaches and seems to have a VERY skewed idea of the relationship between teacher and student. He's bossy, uses intimidation techniques, and does not inform students. He doesn't teach, he recites.
The grading for the labs was fair. A lot of the semester the equipment was busted, but those portions of the lab were cut or he would give us data to use. Reasonable professor ad will compliment you for doing well in his class
Professor Samardzic is a very knowledgeable and respectable professor. He points out the things you need to know for the test and skips over the things you don't need to know. However, it is also very important to read and make your own notes. I would take him again for another course.
He is very knowledgeable of the course material and he wants you to do well, but you must put in some effort (weekly homework, study before exams). Lab attendance is mandatory. Lecture attendance is recommended but he just reads off the PowerPoints that you can find online (his are very thorough). Dont be afraid to ask him questions.
Took this prof over the summer (5 weeks long). He's a good prof. who lectures from his slides, and gives hints as to what to study b/c it could be on the test. Lots of hw, 3 research assignments (which are not hard), and 6 labs. In order to pass the class, study the slides and skim through the textbook and do well on the labs and you'll pass.
Cool prof., but his lectures are boring, he reads from the slides and doesn't do practice problems on the board. You will have to do a project in class. The exams are similar to hws and problems in the slides. It's open book and notes. Just do the hws, study for exams, and do the project and you'll pass!
Careful taking this professor. I have as informed he was "excellent" from previous semesters. Absolutely wrong. Pop quizes , extremely hard. Tests are nothing like the HW. Put in many hours and still wasn't enough. No partial credit either . Something changed here , beware.
His exams are really tough but he curves the class at the end he doesn't like failing people
great professor put in the work and you will pass
I don't recommend taking this professor at all. He is a very tough grader and doesn't treat all students fairly and equally.
Was really excited to take heat transfer w/ him. Found out quick that he barely teaches. Maybe 3 examples on the board all-term. HW rarely related to exams, yet he would stress how important it was. Really nice guy, but LAZY. Slow grader and makes BIG mistakes while grading, so check your work. Expects a lot from students but doesn't reciprocate.
If he is your professor for this class, ask elon to send you to mars asap.
To whosoever who wrote the Elon Musk comment, if you stay high on weed you won't pass classes
Professor Samardzic is a good guy but I feel he is not a very good professor for Mech Lab 1. We spend most of the time writing what he writes on the board. The labs are long and many of the instruments do not work (outside of his control). I felt that the midterm was way too theoretical and difficult for a lab class.
I feel Professor Samardzic is a good choice for heat transfer. For the most part, he explains the topic quite thoroughly. You can use a notesheet, slides, and the book for the exams. The best way to prepare is to read the book and do problems. The project is a lot of work so prepare for that. My issue with him is he takes too long to grade stuff.
Best professor ever take him so easy
Book use required, which means most of the learning is going to be done on your own. He tends to go off tangents in the middle of class and doesn't have an ounce of useful information to offer besides talking about his life. He recites powerpoints and doesn't explain ANY problems in class. Highly Incompetent, frustrating and morbidly boring.
Very old-school teaching methods where he writes out full sentences on the board and you must copy them down. A bit stubborn, like most of the senior faculty in MIE. Regardless, he's a personable guy and very clear about what he expects from the class. Reports were tedious, but the TA usually graded them and was lenient.
the worst professor ever in NJIT
Expects you to read his mind when it comes to what you need to include in lab reports. Dont expect to get grades back in a timely manner. Does not follow lab manual for calculations/ graphs. 50% of grade is determined by two full lab reports.
Pretty much echoing the other reviews, VERY stubborn guy, you cant ask a simple question without him going into long explanations that lead to nothing useful. Tells us to use the lab manual for reports, then says he expects all these various graphs and calculations that have nothing to do with the manual. So you have to guess what he wants.
i took with him Mech Lab 2 and heat transfer, he might seems rude, but if you show him that you are trying your best you will get A, in heat transfer their is a lot of homework and exams, got 70s in all exams including the final, 80% for the grade and got an A, he curves so good, do the work & try to stay above average. Lab 2 only 2 labs & 2 exams
RUN for any other professor dont waste your money and time you will not pass this class unless you are a PHD master he doesn't expect mistakes and if you are a girl don't worry you will pass but if a guy don't he will make you hate the day your mom opened her legs for your dad. RUDE, DIsrespecfull. and will not take a question or answer emails.
He is the worst in NJIT, doesnt allow you to ask anything even if he did once you will get disrspected in front of all the class for a simple question. doesn't grade in time so you basically going into exams and don't know if your work is right or no. his english is trash. Also, will doesn't teach he reads slides that is not even his.
DO NOT TAKE HIM DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY YOU CAN TAKE ANY OTHER YOU WILL NOT FAIL EVEN IF YOU ARE AN A STUDENT YOU WILL FAIL OR BE A GIRL AND PASS HE IS A GUY WHO PASSES GIRLS FOR BEING NICE TO HIM HE DISHONOR TEACHING IN ALL MEANS. SUCKS AT ENGLISH
An ok professor and good introduction to mechanical engineering courses. Had great knowledge of manufacturing processes. Somewhat helpful in elaborating on topics. Lectures were tiring and he basically just read off the slides. The labs were fun, but lab reports were tedious and long. Exams are very hard but the grading scale compensates for this.
This professor just lectures for 2 hours straight and not much else. He is very strict and "by the book" so read the syllabus well. Labs are okay, some are long but as long as you try on the reports then you're fine. Class is curved heavily, so try to do really well on the first exam since it is the easiest. Make lots of flashcards.
Whatever you do, do not take him for any classes. He is not a good teacher, he only reads off slides and hates when people ask him questions. He has unclear directions and does not care for the students. Take any other professor but him
Professor Samardzic is genuinely a good guy. Just resist asking dumb questions and you'll be fine. I honestly believe he doesn't know he comes off rude sometimes. If you show him that you're interested in learning he will rake notice of that. Honestly if you're reading this you don't rly have another choice. I think he's the only prof for this
He's so stern and by the book. All he does is read off lecture slides, show up to the lab meeting to take attendance, and says students have it easy. If you miss a lab and don't make it up, you fail the entire class. Exams are stupid hard. Class gets curved, but do your best on lab reports. Small convos with him can turn into arguments.
Terrible Professor, slides and HW problems make up all of your exam prep. The exams are very rough. Strict grader & consistently rude. If you can take someone else I highly recommend you do. There is little industry benefit to gain from him, he is on the older side and does appear to have a resentment against both the students and the job.
Ask him a simple question, he'll ask you "Did you read the syllabus" like we're supposed to memorize that. He believes turnitin is 100% correct with it's plagiarism detector (it's not). He's hard to talk to, he thinks students have it easy even though he literally only reads slides and takes attendance, TA does everything else. Don't miss a lab.
Please dont take this professor. RUN. out of the 4 labs, you are to submit 2 and those two are 30% each. You are most likely not going to get above a 55 on the first lab. Disrespects you every time you try to ask something. 30% of your grade is final which he mentions nothing about. The highest you would prob end up with is a C+ without a curve.
Honestly is a funny guy. However, he only reads off slides and tells you to read the textbook. There are no reviews, the only way to pass the class is just to read. Will talk to students during the exams and can be distracting.
He's a cool dude, but if he does not like you he can be super rude. The class itself sucks; all he does is read off of slides and the exams are based totally on the textbook and are super hard. The class is curved heavy (if you get a 70 you will probably end with an A), but your grade is super dependent on your lab reports and exam grades.
Grades super harshly even if you have all the requirements in the rubric your grade will be lower than you expect. Does not offer much help expects students to know everything. Avoid him if you can.
Prof. Samardzic is very knowledgeable and is not a bad guy. Grading is somewhat unclear for Lab reports. Reports are very long and detailed but you only have to write 2 out of 4 full reports for mech lab 3. Final was did not relate directly to sample calcs but focused on his lecture information. He is nice if you talk to him if you show you care.
The biggest part of this class is a group project, and you work on it all semester. It is 30% of the total grade, and when I had a problem with my group, I only emailed him, and he raised the grade. The midterm and final are hard, because of all of the information from the lectures (the averages for them were around 50-60), but he does curve.
this has to be the worst class ive taken so far at njit. he's a cool dude but he is a bad prof. its not all his fault, this class just sucks but he doesnt help at all either. make sure to do very good on the first exam and the labs. the first exam is only 2 or 3 chapters so study it as hard as u can. do not miss a lab either or u will fail.
Be very careful with the use of AI on lab reports/copying others work (including past semester's) on lab reports, also make sure to not miss a lab or not submit a lab report, IF U DO U FAIL THE ENTIRE COURSE LOL
Just reads off of slides. No teaching skills whatsoever. Avoid at all costs
His lectures are exactly what he has in his slides, nothing added, which are ripped right from the book. The labs are a massive part of the grade, so don't forget to include the signed papers for each one (learned this the hard way). The homework and lectures don't help with the tests at all. The tests feel like random trivia instead of a test
AVOID!!!Reads from lecture slides, doesn't include ALL info that's on exams, so study only from txtbook. Do the absolute BEST you can on exam1 (4 chapters), bc it gets worse from there,exam2 covers abt 20 chapters, for final focus on exam1&material after exam2,NOT exam2.Labs are majority of grade,do good, turn in ontime,if u miss 1,automatic fail.
This is advice for me215. Heads up his lecture slides are missing topics, I suggest having a text to speech program read you the textbook for the exams. This tactic put me 20 points above the average for exam 2 and 3. Now that everyone is doing this trick good luck passing the curve, I just crashed it. HAHAHAHA
Very boring, lectures are so long and monotone that its difficult to pay attention. The tests averages were in the 50s. Reads directly off of slides. Is kinda rude sometimes but overall he's fine. DO WELL ON THE LABS they will help your grade drastically.
If you care about your GPA, don't take this guy for any of your classes, I'm warning you. He's a waste of your time and money. It's a professors job to be sincere with his work and actually teach his students, not sit on a chair and read from some outdated slides for 30 min and then dismiss everyone.
Ive had him for ME215 and ME316. Listen if you feel comfortable driving to NJIT for your lecture to be 1hour of a guy skimming through slides (that are already on Canvas) be my guest. This is the type of class that could be very interesting and cool, but instead, he fails to teach anything.
Seven 30-page lab reports (60% of final grade). Written by yourself. TA grades them all and is basically the one who teaches the course. Had an A average but ended up with a B+ because of nonsense exams Veljko gives (30% final grade). Lockdown Browser fill in the blank, no partial credit using requested Sig Figs. Exam guidance: Read the book! DNT!!
