just started class... she seems nice and helpful
This is a very interesting course and the professor is amazingly clever and smart. Although the course is at night I never fall asleep. So if you have the opportunity take this course without hesitation.
she is amazing.. WOW and very beautiful. she is very helpful. - very organize and prepares her lecture very coherently. - understanding!!! must have her!!!
BEWARE: The course technology and Civilization 1780 is anti-marxism. The title really should be " ANTI-technology determinsm." but, its an interesting course. The only problem is that you can't disagree with the thesis of the course (professor, that is technology does not determine the social struct
Good course, very boring at times but its worth it, she really cares and she will do the best she could with the marks if you put some effort in, don’t be afraid of the professionalism she is soft on the inside. She makes it her duty to get to know everyone and it works out to your advantage!
The Best Professor at York. Kind and most of all VERY Helpful. The class itself it not so interesting but once you show a little interest she will push you. I certainly recommend this class.
Very interesting material! I usually don't like anything but Marketing courses and she really brings this course to life. Explains everything clearly and really knows her material. Seems tough but is really making up for her age (she's very young and seems to think she needs to act tougher for people to take her seriously). Concerned about students
Vera really places on emphasis on helping students learn the material and ensure everyone understands it. She's very clear about ideas and encourages active critiques of all the thesis presented in class. She even allows you to submit work early for review before being marked, allowing you to get an easy A in this course.
Terrible prof... takes herself far too seriously.
Prof always there to help with papers and answers all questions. Very nice. Perhaps person below got bad mark?
very nice and helpful
interesting class
Definitely a great prof. She's very willing to help out students (ie. show assignments ahead of time to get her opinion/help, answers questions) and is always striving to help the student to well in the class (she's always around to ask for clarification on a reading or lecture before or after class). And she has her funny moments. Very interesting
An excellent professor for first time students. She is willing to help before class starts. She proof-read my assignment for and gave me suggestions for improvement. She uses stories to help understand the course material. She made a natural science course fun...what more can I say??!
she is a great 1st year teacher and i really respect how much she is willing to assist anyone
It was an absolute privilege to be in Prof. Garcia's course. I learned so much, and have never had a more helpful or kind professor.
Great prof, she memorized 70 students by name. That's intense dedication.
Very helpful and a genarally nice person. Actually bothers with your name which is a nice change! Only problem is that she talks very quickly. watch out for that.
An amazing prof who is willing to help her students in any way she can.

shes sooo clear and knowledgeable and friendly. she smiles at all the students. i have her now and the tests are not bad if you know your stuff. the difference with this class is this material is actually interesting so studying isnt a pain- even though i failed 1st test, but that was my fault NOT HERS. also goto class. dont talk in class-annoying
She tells you exactly what you need to know. Her handouts do get very boring and it's hard studying everything if your not interested, espicially when you can't keep along in class cause she is very attractive
Amazing prof! The first thing that impressed me about her was that she took the time to memorize your name and actually greet you by name when you came to class. Probably the first and last time you will ever have a prof like that. She is crystal clear on her expections, and has a very clear and straightforward teaching style. Also tres hot!
great teacher. Definition of responsible professor. Good material, good lecture-er. Organized, clean, clear with expectation and knowledgable + consistent. Good course(s) take her classes
not bad of a prof but too much work in course and challenging tests
She is easy .. she is boring ... the is passionate .. she is helpful ... she runs a tight ship .. its worth the grind
Excellent speaker, lecture summaries simple to read and perfect for studying tests. outline of course (15% participation, 35% controversy assignment and 50% the small tests throughout the year) kept it easy to learn as non-cumulative Simple course and teacher, requires no readings just class attendance
Lectures are only mandatory because you get marked for attendance. But everything she says in the lectures are already in the lectures notes availible online. Her tests are okay, but sometimes the lectures get really boring. She is somewhat helpful but doesn't always return emails. Other than that she is pretty nice.
really easy course. prof is clear and helpful. she posts all the lectures online and gives you marks for showing up for class. readings are assigned but generaly you dont have to do them to do well. i got an A and didnt read a single thing all year.
You will get out of this course what you put in. There is A LOT of information covered in class, but prof's lectures and notes are very helpful for learning. One note: come to class - just reading notes is not enough - way to much to memorize if you don't know what is important or not
What can I say? A very bad prof. She will lecture for two hrs with barely even pausing and her mono-tone voice just makes the class almost to tedious to even want to attend. Takes attendence which is not usual for lectures of this size and apparently also takes participation marks someh ow even though she doesnt know most peoples names even? BAD
One of the most helpful profs I've known. She literally remembers everyone's names!
She talks in a monotone and repeats herself SO MUCH. She puts up an overhead and reads from it pretty much word for word. Not too much fun. She seems nice though.
This class started out boring but picked up a bit as the year went on. She's a very good prof though. Kind, very organized, fair marker. Her tests are easy once you have studied.
Best prof I have ever had at York period.
Amazing Prof. Her ability to speak intelligently is what had me from the start. She does not waist a single word during class. She is also very enthusiastic about what she teaches. I highly recommend that you enroll in this class at the first opportunity your get.
Great prof. Easy on the eyes.
She turned one of my most dreaded courses into the one I enjoyed most. Go to lecture and you'll be fine. Interesting course material and she's pretty funny to boot.
She's really concise, clear and fair. Her class is extra easy because she posts her lectures online and you simply have to print them out, attend class, and then spend the class listening to her expand on the notes. I definitely recommend taking a class with her!
best ever.. !
Crystal clear, friendly, and extraordinarily well organized. Lectures are easy to follow and informative. I was surprised that in a class of several hundred, she actually recognized me and remembered my name. NATS1775 is an incredibly easy course.
wish there were more profs like her
Prof is amazing. So thankful i had her. She is very clear, kind, smart & makes course material interesting. If u go to class & pay attention, u can do very well. Extremely well organized, takes attendance but gives good reason for it & by the middle of the term, she knows ur name. A class i look forward to going to!
She is absolutely brilliant
One of the best proffs I've had. Very Clear and is able to communicate extremely well. Makes course seems interesting and has a sense of humor. Keeps lectures as short as possible and gets straight to the point.
SHE IS AMAZING. SHE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR IV EVER HAD. SHE MAKE IT SOO SOOO INTERESTING ITS LIKE I GO TO CLASS AND I HAVE HER TELL ME STORIES EVERY LECTURE. REALLY REALLY EASY ASSIGNMENTS. SUPPER FUN CLASS TO ATTEND I GOT A LOT OUT OF THIS COURSE. WHATEVER SHE SAYS IN LECTURE IS EXZACTLY WAHT IS IN EXAM. I passed without even reading articles.
I was told by friends that this class would be fun and easy. Well its not. To be fair I am not a science person and its really no interest to me at all but when I heard it would be about different technologies I was a little interested. However, the technologies were not what I expected. They were very boring with lots of info. No Math though!
makes the most boring information interesting!
Great Professor, Definitely knows what she is teaching and can totally make boring stuff, very very interesting
She was awesome. I had absolutely no interest in the subject (or any NATS course for that matter) - but she made this course awesome. She's smart, and very insightful. She's a lot of fun and she's very kind. She takes the extra mile to learn names. She's a really good prof, and a great person. (pay attention in class if you wanna do well on tests)
she's a cool gal
She is awesome. She makes student's life easy, unlike other professors that make our lives MISERABLE. She tries to help students to make a good grades at exams as well as understand the lesson very well. You shouldnt miss this prof, you wont regret it!
She is the best. Extremely best. She is smart and she knows her stuff very well. Nats1775 is probably the best nats course because of her. I am now actually looking for other course that she handles because id be honored to be her student again..shes the best..
She's really nice. Her first multiple choice test was kind of hard, but second short answer test was much easier. She is kind and willing to help anyone. I love her teaching and she does make th ematerial she teaches interesting. Take her classes.
She's very cold sometimes. So that is a con, and also like other people mentioned, her MC exams are very hard.
LOVE this prof. She is by far the best teacher as a professor. She really makes sure to help her students when they need it. She's funny and nice. She may seem intimidating in the beginning, but she really isn't. Easy class if you attend her lectures. And her tests arent that bad!
kind of nice
I like her because she is always smiling. That is a very good characteritic of her. Second, she knows my name out of more or less 400 students. As a prf, she is one of the best at york univ. Its a good start for my first year..Lastly, based on my courses, this class is so far the most attended one compared to others so that means shes good.. :)
The best teacher at York. Very interesting lectures, easy to follow. Provides notes on moodle, and tests are based mostly on them, and not on the readings. Tests are not hard, but still takes time to study. Very charismatic, amazing how she memorizes your name :) Would love to take her class again!
Wonderful teacher. Very clear & informative. The prof puts all her notes on moodle which makes it easy for students to study the material and be prepared for tests/exams. In addition, she made the material interesting, and I enjoyed her class very much.
her classes somehow become like an addictive tv show - classes can end on a cliffhanger with you wanting to know what happens next...its crazy
Really GOOD Pro. Her classes were helpful and easy to understand. Really willing to go to class. She's always willing to help you. One of the best professors I had in York.
Extremely knowledgeable and passionate about her work. Very well spoken and articulate. Printing the notes from Moodle allows you to add your own notes on the side. There is a lack of small papers and quizzes, but your final mark will rely heavily on tests, so be sure to study. Interesting class for those who need a NATS
Great professor! Takes attendance, and best of all she posts notes. Is very clear. Best prof I've had at York so far:)
Very good Prof. Although at times material gets boring, prof is very clear and articulate. Gives detailed notes and you dont have to take notes your self. Study before tests and exam and you will get an A.
BEST TEACHER EVER!!!YOU JUST HAVE TO GO TO CLASS TO PASS! Explains really well and always very clear. She knows her stuff. Super interesting! Would totally like to have her as my prof again! :)
one word : Best!
BEST PROF IVE HAD SO FAR. she knows her stuff! honestly just go to all the lectures and take notes and your golden, its not that necessary to read the readings as she goes over it in lectures. she seems intimidating at first but shes truly sweet, it was a pleasure to have her last year :)
At first she seems imtimidating but she's really awesome! She really knows her stuff and makes lectures very interesting. Pay attention in lecture because her tests are mostly based on them, not the readings. She is very fair and cares a lot about her students. Would definately take another course with her.
Great prof! She makes a boring class very interesting. She posts detailed notes but go to lecture because what she mentions will be on the tests. You don't have to do the readings to get a good mark-that's how detailed her notes are. She really knows her stuff and cares about her students. Would take another course with her.
She is very intelligent, speaks clearly and with interest in her voice that she believes in what she is lecturing. Great prof, although I do find her exams hard.
She is an excellent prof. shes clear in everything she articulates, approachable, fun and i can honestly say she is the best prof ive had thus far at york! amazing teacher, amazing class!
Excellent teacher, never had any interesting lectures then this.Love the way she teaches and she's crystal clear and fun too.She hot too :P
I think she is a great teachers. you have to got to class to get the best results
Good professor, straightforward and reasonable.
I'm in my third year, have never come across a more straight forward, done to the point prof. I totally recommend taking the class Technology and Civilization, not only is she an outstanding prof, but she has an amazing way of making class content interesting !!
I would definitely recommend Pavri as your professor. She has a joy for teaching, clearly points out the important stuff you need to know, besides, her lectures are pretty interesting! I took Science, Technology and Civilization and it was interesting to see the relationship of these disciplines till modern day. If you go to class, you'll do well!
She is the best prof I had so far! This course is not demanding, mid-term 25%, final 35%,paper 30% and participation 10%. She gives out clear instructions on both exam and paper! Just pay attention in class and you will get a great mark!
Easily the best prof at York.
My suggestion is to record her lectures because she goes through a lot of information within 3 hours. She's highly confident, organized and knowledgeable. I am simply amazed by her and it doesn't hurt that she's beautiful. Just make sure you study anything and everything she has ever stated or mentioned in class! One of the best profs at York!!!
EASILY BEST PROF. AT YORK!!! If you have the chance, definitely take a course with her. She's CRYSTAL clear, and makes the course content super interesting. I would recommend recording the lectures as details come in handy during the exam. Overall, my favorite class this year, and my favorite prof. at York YET!!!! TAKE HER COURSES!!
Good prof. Make sure you read the text books. She posts her notes online which is quite helpful.
She is an amazing professor. Go to class and take notes and you will do well in her class!
Good professor,I wouldn't say that I enjoyed this class but that reflected more on the material rather than the professor. She is a very good lecturer, attendance is mandatory but she posts the notes online which is helpful.
Great prof! Was really interesting to listen to, and knew so much about what she talked about. Posted notes online before the semester even began, so it made it easier if you missed a class due to illness or whatever. gave readings for every week, but I got a b even without doing a single reading. pay attention in lecture and you'll be fine!
By far the best professor I ever had. She is so good in her lecture that you don't even need the book. I LOVE HER LECTURES; interesting and very informative. I wish she taught more than 1 class. I'm already in second year and she still beats all the prof I have this year. TAKE HER CLASS!
I fell asleep because of her voice, but overall, very nice, easy class. Not much humour :(
I learned a lot from her lectures!
She is very boring. But she knows her stuff very well and if you somehow stay awake you can learn a lot. Very strange essays.
Amazing prof! Her lectures are crystal clear and have a lot to add on to the lecture slides she provides for the class. It was always one of those classes that I WANTED to go to because of the interesting information we learned. Assignments were kind of challenging. However, overall, one of the best profs I've had so far.
BEST PROF! loved her class, notes are posted ahead of time, topics are covered clearly and are very interesting. I ended up with a B with hardly doing the readings. There is 1 book report, 1 research essay, 1 midterm and 1 exam and also some easy tutorial assignments. DEF RECCOMEND for a Gen Ed Nats course.
Every class is the same: you get the notes online, go to class and listen to her monotone voice explaining the material in further detail (I caught myself falling asleep multiple times). The course required a heavier workload compared to my other ones. Despite the negative aspects, I was surprised to receive an A and ended up learning quite a lot.
Ms. Pavri's lectures are extremely clear and concise. She presents as if she has notes in front of her. The material she covers may be boring in general but with her critical spin, it became extremely interesting. The assignments are fairly easy. She's guides the class through each assignment step by step and make time to help you if needed.
One of best professors at TD. Dr. Pavri is very helpful, her lectures are clear, interesting and she's passionate about the subject. Her tests are fair. If you attend the lectures you should not have any problems receiving a good grade!!!
Vera literally had her material memorized, and was always crystal clear on what her expectations were. Awesome class, really interesting! I learned a lot. 2 Exams and ! major assignment, super easy if you study. Don't buy the course kit, her lecture notes are more than enough. I would def recommend.
AWESOME PROF. She's very friendly and easily approachable. She responds to emails ASAP and is always willing to help students! She's also very intelligent, had all her lectures memorized. VERY detailed and straight forward. You knew what she expected of you. Attendance does impact your mark.
Amazing Prof! Very clear in her explanations. Will gladly help if you need questions. Made a class that I thought I would hate one of my favorites!
I switched into a history major because of her. She is by far the best prof I ever had. She is so kind, an amazing lector, and knows her material inside in out. And damn is she ever easy on the eyes.
She is simply the best
Dr. Pavri knows what she's doing. She has every lecture memorized and posts her notes on Moodle for all students. The paper and the exams take some significant work, but the course is interesting. It's pretty much a history course. Nevertheless, Dr. Pavri is a pro and she's never afraid to talk to a student or answer any question.
Quite possibly the best prof at York. Very clear, interesting concepts, short lectures and few assignments. One 10-15pg essay is challenging, but lots of time is given for completion (months) Highly recommend this course, especially if looking to fulfill gen ed. requirement. Attendance is crucial, textbooks not at ALL.
Great Professor! Extremely clear in lecture, however, sometimes she goes too fast. She gives great lecture notes to follow along. She gives two papers, but a long amount of time to complete them. Her tutorial assignments are easy, and are marked based on completion. You must attend class for participation mark, she does attendance every class.
Awesome prof! She is extremely knowledgeable, and fair
Awesome prof! She is extremely knowledgeable, and very fair
Awesome prof! She is extremely knowledgeable, and very fair to her students. I would recommend that you attend her classes.
Pavri is clear, methodical and extremely concise. Her lectures, though not always interesting (to me), were always informative. The course work was easy as long as people followed exact instructions and read/researched what she asked for. She also only used the course text a few times; you still need T&C and Goldacre for 1775. Overall, great course
Professor Pavri is one of the best lecturers I have ever had. Don't need to touch the textbook, just go to all her lectures and take notes and the exams will be a breeze. She takes attendance for a component of your mark but it wasn't an issue because her lectures are so amazing. Looking for an easy NATS course, take tech&civ with her!
An amazing professor. She made all the course material crystal clear and interesting. She engaged with students, and was always there after class if anyone had any questions. Definitely recommend her!
Lecture Style: Clear & Concise. Every lecture is like a story which helped me memorize and understand the material better. The material is quite interesting and I have learned a lot from this course that I never learned before. Highly recommend this course esp. if you need to fulfill that general education requirement. Prof Vera Pavri is awesome!
She will make you a better student. Articulate, helpful, prepared, and is the epitome of a great professor. For course content, attend every lecture and follow her lead. The material can be a little mundane, but she makes it fun. This course progressively gets harder into the final, but again she will make you a better student so enroll NOW.
She is the best teacher. she is respectful and receptive. I hope other teachers learn from her how to treat students. my suggestion to you is class can be easy if you try to push yourself. if not you will get a lower mark which can't be teacher's fault but yours. at the end don't miss this course.
very good prof her lecture are clear and concise and clearly knows the course inside and out. the workload isnt to bad and is more interested on understanding of material than knowing it point by point
Great prof! Easy to understand and made learning interesting, especially considering most people in the class were there for a general Education credit. Loved the material and her approach, great class and one of my favourite profs.
she is THE best prof I have ever had. Very clear and knows her course inside and out. Would suggest always printing her notes before class so its easier to add on new information during lectures. Her lectures are like story telling, so everything has flows. If you have to take a NATS course, i would suggest taking this class. Loved it !
Prof. Pavri is very nice and is always willing to help students. Excellent lectures as well!
feels like all lectures are memorized, and she's simply reciting it, rehearsed dull and boring, as if she knows herself that the material is bad and wants it to be over with. Honestly how can you expect a student to show interest when the proff is not?
I took this course, and as a business student it was just my elective.. not mandatory at all. Honestly if you come to class, take supplemental notes of what she says (she offers notes) and take the time to just read it.. its really easy. For a 6 credit course, work load is not bad at all. I recommend tbh...
Coming from a business student, it wasn't that bad if you attended all lectures and actually listened... I recommend the split 90 min class so you dont lose interest midway in a 180 min lecture. Got an A and for a 6 credit full year course, its soft.
Lectures are CRYSTAL clear and she's a fantastic lecturer. She's also very precise with what she expects from students and her examsassignments are very straightforward. If you attend lecture, you're golden. All of the exam material is based off of what's been taught in lecture. I didn't crack open my textbook once and got an A. Loved her!
Very interesting course material, although her lecturing method is extremely tedious. Often condescending and reductionist in how she discusses themes and authors at hand. This course has potential but lacks an inspirational foundation. Pavri is a great speaker although she seems to poorly encourage critical thinking.
Waited until my last year to take a NATS course and I wish I had taken this class in my first year instead of my last. Interesting material and great lectures. Crystal clear grading criteria as well.
Dr. Pavri is the only one of my profs to be at all helpful during this strike and seems to actually care about her students.
The material is VERY interesting and she is very knowledgeable and highly skilled in presenting, so articulate and smooth. She is really helpful and kind and wants her students to do well. Always leaves extra time after lecture for questions and will review all assignments b4 due dates. Extremely compassionate and helpful during strike.
this is the first time i've filled out one of these but only to inform potential students of what a great time i've had being apart of her class. easily the best class i've taken in my 4 years. her lectures are interesting - coming from someone who has a very short attention span! clear instructions with assignments - fairly easy tests! 4.55.
You honestly don't need the textbook in this class. Show up to lecture, take notes, and you will pass. She's also super willing to help if you approach her with questions outside of class or via e-mail. Very kind professor!
NATS 1775 was a great class because of her! Prof. Pavri was amazing and her lectures actually made sense, didn't put you to sleep, and were really interesting. She is super nice and wants her students to do well. I definitely recommend you take a class with her because you won't regret it!
Her lectures were clear and very easy to understand. First exam was all multiple choice and the final was short answers and essay questions. Come to lecture, pay attention, understand the concepts, read the lecture notes and you're golden. Also I barely read the textbook. But beware as the course progressively gets difficult.
She is a great prof with very clear expectations and crystal clear lectures. She makes unlimited time after class (almost always ending early) to answer questions, doing her most to make sure people do well. Make sure you are there for her lectures and take down every word. If not make sure to get notes from those who have good ones, so you get A.
This was an easy course to manage over the summer term. The lectures were posted online and were each about an hour long. The tests were general not based on the readings, just the lectures. Pretty easy if you listen to the lectures and review your notes. She is very clear and the course was far more interesting than I expected.
COOLEST PROF EVER
Dr. Pavri is so far my all time favourite teacher! She seems a little intimidating at first but I already love her after four weeks. Her lectures are clear and interesting; she really knows how to make a class engaging. She is an incredible speaker and controls the room.
Professor Pavri is an amazing lecturer! She speaks with such clarity and know her stuff inside and out. The readings are quite difficult to follow or read without being confused, but she goes over the content so well and keeps me alert. I highly recommend this professor :)
She actually teaches you how to do essays and how to take notes and read. Love actually learning how to do things other prof expet you to already know. The course would be boring if she wasnt teaching it.
Vera Pavri is definitely one of my favorite profs. Her lectures are clear and interesting, and this is coming from someone who HATES NATS and only took it for the credit. The way she lectured made it more interesting and she's genuinely a nice person. If you have her as a prof you're in for a treat.
She is helpful and nice. Her classes are a straight lecture, and do not involve participation; therefore, you will be taking notes for an hour straight. The content of the course is how technology evolved over history, which I found to be interesting. She always lets us out 20 minutes early.
Great at explaining the material in an easy/memorable way. She provides lecture notes for you on moodle which makes it easier to listen and absorb what she is teaching, although it does not hurt to take your own notes. She takes attendance, so come to class! Also, lectures are never the full 3 hours which is great! Readings are posted on moodle.
very boring prof, but easy to follow and easy tests.
Excellent lectures and really interesting content. Highly recommend.
lectures are okay, shes kind of like a robot lol, but shes very nice and fair with marks. Tests were easy for the most part if you study, there was no suprises
A professor that cares about the success of her students. She understands that people aren't necessarily interested in the course itself, and takes the opportunity to teach us student life skills that will benefit us during our time at university. Taught us how to properly write an essay, how to cite, the cons of procrastination and a lot more.
Such an amazing prof! She is very serious but she cares about students, her tests are not that hard, she gives the lecture notes and her classes are not that that boring (sometimes lol)
Professor Pavri has to be one of the best professors I have had at York she really simplifies the readings for you and does not give out a lot of assignments through the course. She is super nice and teaches you a lot of other things that can be of benefit to you throughout the rest of your university years.
This is a professor that definitely know what she's lecturing about. Extremely enjoyable lectures that keep you interesting. And willing to work with you so you do well. Warning - she does do attendance for her lecture.
Highly recommend. Amazing professor, and the lectures are spoken at a great pace, and the content is interesting. She really knows what she is talking about. Initially, I wasn't looking forward to taking a nats course, but she made me want to take it all over again by the end. The tests were not hard, and there were barely any assignments.
Great Prof, she speaks like Obama and made very dull material interesting and easier to stay interested, was very clear with coursework and what she expected from us. You did have to attend the lectures to really understand the material but had all the notes online. Very good class with this prof
Great prof. She is a really good speaker and makes the course content really interesting. The course overall was pretty easy as long as you paid attention. She puts up the slides online but it is beneficial to go to classes since she helps you understand the content better. Only 1 major essay and some small assignments to do in class. Great class.
Dr Pavri was by far my favourite professor this year. She's an amazing speaker, easy to understand and makes the course interesting and engaging. She's also very approachable, always has a smile, and is always willing to help. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GOOD NATS COURSE, TAKE HER COURSE, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!! If I could take the course again, I would
Dr. Pavri is honestly one of the best prof you can have in your first year, she really makes you feel welcome & is always there when you need her. She holds office hours, keeps students updated via email and posts lecture notes online. If you are looking for an interesting NATS course - I highly recommend this one with her, you won't regret it!!
Dr Pavri was my favourite professor this year. I believe more professors should follow her ways of teaching/engaging with students. She speaks clearly, speaks at good pace, she's understandable, and is always helping her students out in anyway possible. She's also very approachable and kind. A lot of her students respect and admire her, like myself
Vera is an amazing proff. If you are unclear about anything shoot her and email, or stay after class and she will ensure that you leave the discussion with a better understanding. The exams, assignments, and tutorial assignments are straight forward, you come to class, pay attention, and study when needed and you are guaranteed an easy A.
Vera Pavri was an awesome teacher with a clear comprehension of the course material. She was very active in using Moodle, extending office hours, engaging students in class discussions and clarifying information before and after class. She has a captivating voice which makes you want to listen and she goes at a reasonable pace. Highly recommend!!
Professor Pavri is one of the best lecturers I've ever had. Her lectures keeps you engaged throughout the class. She is very clear on what's expected on assignments and tests. She has great communication, and is very helpful and caring to students. She is just an all-around amazing professor that I can't recommend enough.
Dr. Pavri is the best professor I've encountered so far. Her classes are very engaging and she gives the best notes and examples to study from. You have to study, but you will receive the grades you deserve. Join her class NOW!
She is very clear with what she wants from you and truly cares about her students. Attendance matters, we had to write 2 papers. I would choose her again.
Can't recommend her enough if you have the chance to take a course with her. Her lectures and assignment/exam guidelines are crystal clear and she's a pleasure to listen to. Also very kind and approachable which is rare for professors. Readings aren't necessary if you attend class (she takes attendance so make sure you go!) and pay attention.
Excellent speaker, great lecturer, clear, straight to the point, easy to understand.
Amazing. Best prof I had in first year
You really learn something in her class. She provided the notes so students would spend more time focusing on what she was saying rather than rushing to jot things down. She doesn't believe in memorizing and then regurgitating info back, so she makes sure you form a deep understanding of the material. You don't need the textbook to do well.
Awesome Professor.
She grades you on your attendance based on the amount of sign ins you've had throughout the semester. Lecture notes are posted online but it's good to attend as she add's extra points that will help during tests.
Was afraid of taking this course at first b/c it's natural science. But was relieved b/c Dr. Pavri is an incredible prof. Respects and cares for students and want them to succeed in her class - gave extra midterm marks to everyone. Uploads lectures and all assignments online ahead of time. Great prof!
Dr. Pavri is an amazing professor!! If you come to class and listen to her instructions carefully, you will definitely get an A. She provides students withclear instructions of what her expectations are so there is basically no way you can do poorly. Also, don't plagiarize your research paper!!!. She's not feebleminded, you will get caught.
Dr. Pavri is a nice Prof and she knows it. This course talked about things that most people know today about technologies, but she managed to make it interesting and explore even more knowledge about the subject. I wouldn't take this course again but I would definitely take another course by her. She's very fair and clear when it comes to grading.
Her lectures are perfect for incoming first-year students. She is coherent and extremely detailed in her lectures, at times repetitive in order to nail information into your brain. This may be exhausting for upper-year students since a lot of her teaching is procedural and tedious. Nonetheless, do your readings and be prepared for tests, easy A.
She's an amazing professor overall. This course did not have any tutorials and so the lectures were important to attend. She teaches very clearly and you can easily do well if you follow guidelines. Be prepared to take notes and listen.
Cannot recommend her enough, probably one of the best professors I've had since starting at York.
AMAZING I LOVE HER. Every lecture super interesting, concepts clearly explained. She posts notes on Moodle but come to class anyways to hear what's really important for exams and to better understand. Best lecturer I've had. Also very kind and caring, genuinely wants students to succeed. Clear assignments and grading criteria. BEST PROF.
An amazing prof!! Took NATS1700 with her. She makes the concepts so easy to understand. Highly recommended.
Nothing special. She literally reads the slides, I barely went to class. I would say it is an easy NATS course and would recommend it if you need the credit.
One of the best professors in all of York! Learned so much from her class. She kept everyone engaged. Highly recommend taking her course, especially for first years.
Go to all your lectures and pay attention easy A
Amazing considerate prof, can't say enough positive things about her!
Dr. Pavri speaks like she's giving a TedTalk - like, a good one. Everything she talks about in lectures always feels important regardless of how easy quite a few concepts are to grasp (probably b/c she makes them really clear). This class wasn't my major but it was still one of the most interesting ones all year, I *wanted* to come to class
SHE IS AMAZING!!! She is very clear when she tries to explain, you always understand. Posts on Moodle a lot and she is very helpful!!
Dr. Pavri is the best professor, period. Her lectures are amazing. She is truly special. She makes learning interesting and easy.
Prof Pavri is nice enough and gives clear, simple lectures. She gives us notes ahead of time to add to. We only had three assignments. Don't expect much help from her outside of class. Emails can be vague and you get the feeling she doesn't want to help. Still a pretty easy class and a good prof (esp for 1st/2nd years). Learned a lot.
I looooooved Vera, def my favourite prof that I've had in my first year. 2 exams, 1 paper and tutorial assignments and class attendance is what you're marked off of. If you pay attention during her course, you'll do great! She speaks like shes doing a ted talk so you stay interested. Basic outline of notes available online. 10/10 prof
Pavri is my favourite prof in my first year. She is caring, and very helpful. The marking was fair. However I believe it depends on your TA. Highly recommend especially when you just transfer from high school.
I highly recommend to have Dr. Pavri if you are fresh outta high school. Her lectures are clear and interesting plus she gives examples on the material so you can understand it better. Dr. Pavri gives many hints on what to expect on the work she gives. Follow the criteria and go to class - It's that simple. Definitely will have her again!
Prof. Pavri is by far the best professor I've ever had. She's very passionate in what she's teaching and that transfers to students. This course in particular is not hard at all very common sense with topics on social media, technology and the effects that is has on us. I took it b/c I had to cover my NATS credit. Would definitely take her again
She is very clear and concise, and makes her points very clear. Im glad I had her as my NATS prof. However, our multiple choice tests barely had anything to do with the major course concepts. We would spend a whole lecture on a concept that seems important& it wouldnt appear on the test. All random concepts glossed over on the side.
Very clear!! Honestly, the reason i enjoyed this class was because of her lecture style, she is very engaging, and makes all the material interesting, and super simple. I would take this course over again if i could! Best prof at York.
She's a great prof. NATS 1700 is pretty easy as long as you attend the lectures and pay attention. Textbook is not that mandatory but it is useful to have. If you don't attend the lectures you will be lost but overall it's pretty interesting and she's very enthusiastic, encouraging and extremely nice. I really like her as a prof!
She's the best prof I have had! She makes the lectures super easy, the concepts are easy to understand , exam was pretty easy
Dr. Pavri is an incredible prof! Clearly outlines everything in the course, and gives in-class workshops for better reading habits and note-taking. I learned a lot about research and building arguments with more substance. Science does not come easy to me but she taught her content very well and I got it. She is awesome!
Dr. Pavri is an amazing professor who really cares about her students. She is available to meet with students when assignment deadlines are approaching and even extends her office hours to ensure everyone who wants to gets a chance to discuss their assignments with her. She provides lecture notes and her lectures are like TED Talks. Amazing Prof!
Dr. Vera Pavri is one of the best professors I had at york! I highly recommend taking a class with her. She has amazing lectures, she is very approachable outside of class, and she really cares about her students.
How did this prof get 5s? Maybe something changed this year - but avoid! She is not engaging and either regurgitates talking points from the textbook or uses TED & YouTube videos to teach. The exams are marked very harshly for a first year course. She is the first prof I've seen to threaten to lower a grade if you ask her to review part of a test.
Took this online course not really knowing what to expect. Pleasantly surprised. Material was really interesting. Prof always accessible during office hrs and online chats. Liked the mix of audio, readings and vids. Most difficult thing was to stay focused cause you never have class. Highly recommend.
Dr Pavri is the best prof I have ever had. Excellent lectures and tries to help students succeed by providing seminars on things like notetaking, essay writing and multitasking. Great class for first year students!
Vera was an ok prof and I took the course online so as usual with online classes you tend to not pay attention to them as much but I feel as though the assignments seemed straight forward but were marked a bit hard by the TA's. The exams cover a lot of content, and your expected to go in depth with examples and info in order to get a good mark.
Great online course. Prof Pavri's audiocasts are very clear and easy to understand and the Moodle site was well organized. Super interesting content that can be applied in everyday life - was not expecting to enjoy a NATS class so much!
Great professor, but for just a 6 credit course there is a LOT of work. The work is not technically the most difficult, if you attend class youll easily ace it. But there is way too much work for a first year course. This work includes 2 long 14 page papers. This should be worth 9 credits!!!!
Prof Pavri's lectures were amazing. Loved her storytelling approach and all the skills seminars she gave throughout the year. Really helped me grow as a student!
Professor Pavri is one of the best professors at York. Her lectures are like live ted talks and you actually want to listen to them. She guides you for the tests and assignments, and gives other great tips for uni. Lectures are a bit heavy, and you must attend class to pass. It's definitely a great course for a mark booster. Definitely recommend.

Vera Pavri is an amazing prof who can present boring content in a way that keeps the class consistnelty engaged. All of her tests + assignments are so fair and she always gives multiple hints in class ( she sometimes says the actual question itself)
Prof Pavri has the most soothing voice ever. Her lectures are always interesting and she speaks in a way that makes you WANT to keep listening. She is understanding and is willing to help if you ask her. She cares about her students' marks and is not out to fail anyone. A great prof, I am so glad I got her for NATS!
I enjoyed her classes but you must be prepared to start notetaking asap because she goes through a lot of material each lecture, and fast. Her speech and lectures sound like a Ted Talk like everyone says and it can be interesting if you put serious effort into paying attention. You may like this course if you like history as well.
She gives good lectures and talks about interesting material. This course itself was good and I learned a lot but the tests and marking was horrible. We had to wait over a month to get back a mark and when we did the marks would be incredibly low. The tests are heavy and the TAs mark really hard. Interesting material but hard to get a good mark ):
Her lectures are straight forward and excellent, also her voice is pretty soothing to listen to. The course content is pretty interesting and makes you think about technology in different ways you probably haven't considered before. She is always willing to help and is super responsive to emails.
For the Cyberspace course she gives us audio cast and notes that are short and concise. The units and assignments are staightforward.
Gives out loads of work to do for no absolute reason, and takes literal years to mark. When she does end up returning the work, its not the mark you expected. Do not recommend this prof to anybody
The course is very informative and the Professor has the best voice, you can understand her audio recording very clearly. Nothing is blurry and she always has office hours offered and feedback via email whenever it's needed. BUT the course isn't an easy A online, marking expectations are that of a 3-4th year ENG course
I looked forward to this class every week! She gave incredible and interesting lectures and even though this class had nothing to do with my major, it's one of the best classes I've taken at York so far. I would take any class Vera teaches! 10/10 recommend!
Great course, and she really cares about it, super relevant too. She posts her lecture notes, and do a few readings as she'll ask for you to mention them. Watch out for her tests and write well for the big paper. At the end of the day it's pretty straight forward, but she give you the knowledge and resources to help you if you don't understand.
Vera is an amazing professor. Her lectures are very clear and informative. She knows her stuff and is able to explain in many different ways. She is a little insensitive with personal issues but otherwise is nice. Pretty easy assignments and test, especially when open book.
There are too much articles to read. Test is so early that i can't be prepared on time. lecture is clearly posted, but It's mostly self-study in this class. So if you are an international students don't recommand this course, Prof doesn't gives you much guide as possible, difficult to keep on track.
I really like this course. Prof is always accessible, and she always emails us with announcements and reminders to keep us on track. Audiocasts are interesting but not too long, however, you do need to good time management skills to stay on track. Highly recommend!
Prof Pavri is very organized and all the content is easy to understand. She posts audiocasts on eClass with very clear audio, and gives you a nice break from reading. I will say though, the TAs are hard markers. I didn't put a lot of work into this class and got a B+, but I'm also an upper year student.
As a first year student, this class was absolutely fantastic. Vera is so accommodating, and is always willing to help you. The material was very intresting as well, and I was looking "forward" to going to class every week. One issue I only had was the TA'S were quite hard markers.
Such a good prof! Lectures were so interesting and broken up into manageable 10-minute sections. I genuinely learned a lot. Grading was a bit tough at times but there were great opportunities for extra credit so you can come out with an A if you put in the work.
AMAZING AMAZING prof. Dr. Pavri has to be one of the best profs I've had. She explains everything so clearly and is super intriguing. She is very clear of what she is looking for. History-based content, no bio, chem etc involved. Dr. Pavri is also such a kind soul. Super friendly, approachable, eloquent and genuinely kind. 100% RECOMMEND!!
If I had put an effort into this class as I did with my other courses, I would have gotten a better grade for sure. Make sure to study! I did not study for the first test and failed. You assume it will be common sense but the first test got me lol. It really is an easy class, I just never went to the lectures or studied.
One of my fav profs this year. Professor Pavri had engaging lectures that always gave me something to think about. She is very helpful when it came to explaining topics or instructions for assessments. I highly recommend Dr. Pavri and NATS1700 to anyone.
I was quite enthusiastic about the course, as I love the topic, but at the end, I was just waiting to finish. Uninspiring lectures with short audios from prof, and occasional interesting reading are not worth time or money.
Great online course. Clear grading expectations from the start. Interesting audio lectures. Lots of reading, but fascinating subjects. Would take again.
Took during the summer when the course was online. Prof was great but the TA's were hard markers.
One of the best profs i've ever had so far. Vera digests the super complicated subjects to be very easy. I don't find her class struggles at all compared to other NATS classes i took.
prof is okay. she talks super fast in audio lectures though. the class itself is so much harder than it should be. weekly audio lectures, and then 3-4 extra weekly readings/documentaries/videos along with it. i'm in 4th year and this class takes up most of my time. content is interesting but unmotivating when you have all these readings to do
Prof was good, TAs hard markers however they did provide feedback sessions, attendance was not mandatory, I only attended 2 lectures and stopped going, not a lot of homework just note-taking for tests. Somewhat a lot of reading for slides and books for each unit, no final exam just a final test, 3 tests in total each test worth 30% of the grade.
Vera is very intelligent and knows exactly what she is talking about. Lectures are very long and can be so boring. I honestly think that a lot of information that she has explained in lectures stuck with me knowing that I do not care for science. Tests and exams are exactly from her lectures and slides. She will give out hints for exams and tests!
Professor Pavri's class has interesting content, but the heavy workload can be a challenge. The audio lectures are clear, and Unstuck study ai helped me stay on track with the readings and assignments.
No exam, only 3 tests and very, VERY easy one or two page reflections. Its a blended course, so I sat at home copying slides and studied off those. She does record audio modules of the content and its pretty clear, she talks well.
The most amazing prof by far, she is so sweet and caring. She is also beyond intelligent and the lectures/material is so easy to understand, I would 100% recommend this NATS course. The only criticism about this course is tests get returned after a month, as she requests one TA to mark all tests to keep things fair.
I was very nervous going into this course since it was a course based on 3 tests each worth 30% and 10% was skills seminar. However, her lectures were very easy to understand and clear. She would end class early and she would stay back to make sure to answer students questions. Her tests were straightforward. Overall, I would take her again.
i can't stress enough how good this course was. i'm a first year, and the class was hybrid so u can attend in person or online (what I did). if u choose online there are lecture recordings, which I found ez to understand. there is a mandatory book but tbh i rarely did any readings and still acquired an A. u can pass with minimal effort :)
She is a great Professor probably one of the best at York. Her lectures are clear and concise. Quite approachable. Gives a clear expectation of what she is looking for in her assignments and tests. Lectures are enjoyable if you are interested in the topics. If you do what they ask for in tests and assignments you will get good grades.
Prof. Pavri made NATS1505 a complete breeze of a course and her passion for the course itself is definitely what made it so great. As a first year taking her course I can confidently say that she tries to set you up for complete success not only for the course but university.
Professor is well, reading volume is very large, too many tests
i had professor pavri in my first year and she was an excellent educator! although the class easily had over 300+ students, she never failed to make the class feel personal and ensure all students are comprehending topics and is incredibly approachable. She's incredibly knowledgeable, and delivers phenomenal lectures.
