she knows her stuff, but just reads the slides in class...has a very thick accent, and is extreemly soft spoken (if you take her dont sit in the back of the class)
don't take this teacher...very nice THICK THICK accent... material is hard(for me atleast) and the TESTS ARE NOT EASY!
Do not take this class it is very hard
Knows her stuff, but merely reads powerpoints in class. Explains things one way in class, and then another when we ask questions about the test. Bottom line - knows her topic, doesn't know how to teach. The class average is currently around a D - that should tell you something.
Prof. Tebakova is totally dank. Just keep up with your STUDY GUIDE [NOT you book]and you'll have an easy B. Her tests are composed from homework problems, so KEEP UP WITH IT [even though she doesn't grade it]. She explains everything in a ver logical and straightforewrd way. It would be stupid to miss class, as well. [unless you're keeping up.]
This class isn't so bad. No attendence policy which is nice, but it is helpful to go to class since she hands out "worksheets" with alot of the questions from the test. All notes are powerpoints online. Her accent is thick, but she really does try to be a good teacher. She gives extra credit!!! I have an A.
This woman knows her stuff but has no idea how to teach it to those who don't. I could NOT understand a word she said (she has a very thick accent and talks really soft) so I never went to class, just read the powerpoints and did the study guides from the study guide book and got a B.
Hard class, lots of graphs, but it's VERY possible to still get an A. She gives practice quizzes that don't count but tell you whats on the test, study guides, after class review sessions, and extra credit. No attendence policy so i hardly went to class and I still have an A/B since all the notes are online.
She's not as bad as others make her out to be. Yes, she has a heavy accent but definately understandable. Just take notes on whatever she writes down and do the homework, thats your test right there. She gives generous extra credit too.
She's a new teacher and still hasnt mastered how to get across to her students. she's got an accent but is still understandable (just talks quietly) she's not the best teacher but she's not as bad as everyone makes her out to be.
She is a very nice teacher who will go out of her way to help you. The material is hard and if you don't go to class it makes it even worse.
Sweet lady who really knows her stuff. She may have an accent, but she is completely understandable. If you take good notes and pay attention, you will survive in this class. I reccomend logging into Blackboard and printing the Powerpoint slides- she doesn't read them, she skims them in class haha
Nooooo good
very helpful
I went to class less than 5 times all semester. The only problem is I missed most of the quizzes, but the tests consist of the quizzes and study guides, which are posted online. Extremely easy class. No one should have a problem.
Excellent professor. Very enthusiastic and very helpful. Gives extra credit too. Never turn down an opportunity for extra credit. She is very nice, always smiling, always pleasant. You get used to her accent in time. At first it was a little difficult to understand her but I did well in her class despite the accent. She's awesome!
Couldn't understand what she says with accent, very boring, couldn't pay attention because lectures were so dull.
the class can be boring but the opportunity to do well in the class is there. She gives extra credit, the hw is given with plenty of time to be done and she curves some also.
I loved going to her class, she took time up with each student. There was a extra credit provided if you came to class. The intructor worked with you to get you to your highest point in class. I will miss her class. She is the best.
Good teacher. not that hard of a class. got an A wtithout even studyong alot can be a little bit hard to understand but gives a good bit of extra credit.
Economics is hard, but Dr. Tabakova makes it bearable. She's really nice and pleasant each day you come into class. Definitely make sure you know the material, but she puts very detailed powerpoints on blackboard so it's really easy to study for the tests. Just go to class and study and you'll be fine, even in economics!
She has an accent and doesn't talk very loud in class, sit near the front. The quizzes are for attendance purposes, if you go she gives you the answers. There is a little bit of extra credit that can really bring you grade up. The only reason you need the book is for course compass. You could just purchase course compass online
Could not understand her, doesnt explain material fully, powerpoints are useless they dont explain anything. Her quizzes are basically for attendance.
You can't understand a single word this woman says. Attendance is not mandatory, but she does quizzes once a week as an attendance check. The tests are very hard, and I haven't really found a good way to study for them.
Really sweet lady, always smiles when she comes into class. For econ, I think she was a very good teacher, the tests weren't too bad as long as you pay attention and study the powerpoints she posts on blackboard. Go to class too because she gives quizzes that help you out. Oh and make sure you sit in the front, she speaks softly.
Good teacher, hard to hear unless you sit in the front. I didnt crack the book all semester but you need the Econ lab. Easy to do well but the tests are a killer. Go over the powerpoints and go to class every so often and you wont do bad!
i can honestly say i havnt learned a thing ALL semester and i went to class EVERY day.Her in class quizzes are what saved me because she gives you automatic 100s just for turning it in.She is a very nice lady and is always happy but very hard to understand.Attendance is not mandatory but i recommend it for the free 100s.She curves almost everything
Simple suggestion do not take her. She is very hard to understand! How ever she does curve almost all of her grades. Her test are thirty five questions and she gives a quiz every week to do in class. Her work is not hard but again i could not understand a word she said!
teacher is absolutely horrible, can't understand anything she says. If everyone in the class got the grade they deserved than everyone would fail. Luckily she knows she sucks as a teacher so she curves the crap out of the grades. Get someones tests who already took the class, thats your best bet.
She is a very helpful lady and the only reason the class is confusing is because of her bulgarian accent. BUt other than that she is a great professor
her class is hard and really boring. if you don't listen really hard you won't understand anything she says because she has a very thick bulgarian accent, and talks very soft... so sit close to the front
Do any extra credit that she offers. Do all of your course compass homework. She curves a ton at the end of the semester. You can even fail a few test and still get a B.
can't understand her..has some extra credit, have fun with this class, i hated it! and she makes it so hard!
This class was very hard, but I learned a lot. Tests were hard, but as long as you do all the work you can still get a good grade. Sit near the front to be able to hear her. This is not the easiest of classes to begin with so read every page of the textbook. Very time consuming, but she was very nice and helpful.
she sucks. i cant understand what she says, and even if i could, she whispers.
Horribly strong accent, but she loves her job. Test are soo hard, but she curves at the end of the semester. No need to go to class if you aren't going to pay attention, not mandatory. Just do the homework and do the study guides. And she is a great person over all, she gives out chocolate :-)
she's ok, curves alllooot at the end of the semester. Honestly, if you just make an effort, actually do your homework on time and get all the extra credit quizzes then you'll be fine even if you fail some tests because she alwayyys curves. Nice lady, hard to understand but genuinely nice and just wants to teach.
I took her for Macroeconomics this semester and her tests are really hard even when you study and do all the homework. I got a B without even trying in microeconomics and I'm struggling to get a C in Macro. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there's in class quizzes. Don't take her, take Gary Zinn, he's easier and at least you can understand him.
Had her for micro fall 07 and then macri spring 08 and it was like night and day. Micro with her was an easy A and she was much more clear and made the material easy to understand. Macro is the worst. Tests are way harder, homework is ridiculous, doesn't seem to know what she's talking about, and doesn't post grades right. I'll be lucky to get a C
She's hard to understand, but all the homework is online and it's VERY easy. You can retake the homework as many times as you want to get a 100. Her tests are impossible no matter how hard you study, but she curves your grade.
Tabakova is not the best choice i would recommend for this course. She expects you to do a lot of the learning on your own, so make sure you have read the chapter before class. Tests are not that difficult if you have done online HW. Super easy plus she curves all exams & final. She just has a bad accent and is a little ditzy.
This class was difficult, to say the least. She was a very nice person and extremely knowledgeable on the subject, but is not the best at teaching it. She gave us extra credit and curved all grades at the end of the semester. Honestly, though, I walked out of the class feeling like I learned nothing.
She doesn't attend her own classes! Missed 5 classes in a row without prior notice, we just sat there!
Cannot understand her due to accent. Fell asleep in class a lot. Online hw very easy. Tests are extremely hard. Nice lady but talks to students as if they already know what she is talking about. Extra Credit offered. Read the book! Pwrpts are offered online. iClicker helped with attendance. Take notes.
Ok You will need to read the book to "understand" what the heck she is trying to teach you. She tries her best to teach but you just will not understand her. Some people did (don't see how) but you will definatley not know whats going on. Also she never tells you when she has posted a new homework assignment and when it's due.
In this class you need to write down the questions that she asks in class from her power points, study the homework off of myeconlab, and pay attention to the definitions. Attendance isn't mandatory but it is 10% extra credit at the end of the semester that will definitely help you. Do ALL extra credit she gives you. GOOD LUCK!
This teacher sucks! Stay away from her. She dosen't respond at all and she is WACK!!!
You can't understand a word this professor says at all. She is from Bulgaria and has a very thick accent. The homework is easy but the tests are hard because you can't understand anything she says. Don't take this class!
She sucks. Do not take her class and expect to learn or understand economics.
In her defense, she does try her best. She is unfair when it comes to giving quizzes on material that we are still trying to learn. Do the HW and all xtra credit and you will do fine for the tests. She is nice, but probably not the best prof for this course.
She assigned a project with like a week left in the class and expected us to do it and then we ran out of time to present. Also she NEVER responds to e-mails no matter how important they are.
Very nice. This is a real college class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you miss a day you won't know what you're doing. PAY ATTENTION. People say they can't understand her, but you need to just listen your hardest (sit in the front,) and you'll see she's an excellent lecturer. DO THE HOMEWORK. The exams come straight from the homework.
She is a horrible teacher, not learning anything in the class and test averages are 50-60 and she only gives possibility of one extra credit point, she is very difficult to understand and does not do a good job of explaining the material. I would not recommend her!
Attendance isnt mandatory, but she does give random quizzes that are hard and only 3 questions. Tests are hard, lowest score dropped if you take the final. Group project at the end of the semester that is pretty easy and worth 10% of your final grade. Wouldnt take the class if you dont have to.
the entire time i was in her class.. all i could think about was.. "WTF IS SHE SAYING?"
she is an easy teacher. u have a 3 question quiz each day, the final is optional and there are four tests and hw is online and u can press a check button and it will tell u if its right. tests purely from the hw. easy A if ur willing to study
Class is very boring and she is hard to understand. About 60 questions of homework for each chapter; homework is online and you can check your answer until you get it right. Tests are straight from the homework but it's necessary to study, a lot. There is a group project at the end that was kind of fun but other than that class was hard and boring.
Easy class if you put in the time to do the homework and study for the tests. The tests material comes from the homework, just study the homework. There is a group project, which she is thinking of doing away with for next year, she takes for ever to post grades (not for exams though) and you really don't need the book at all.
She has an accent but it isn't that hard to understand her. Everyday all you do is go to class and listen to her read the powerpoint that she puts online so you don't actually have to go to class. Also gets off topic so most of the time you won't get done with the powerpoint until the next class.
Terrible teacher. All her lectures came directly from powerpoint provided by textbook. Test are alright but you have to study ALOT. Going to class is useless.
Easy class. Attendance is not mandatory but is graded...kind of. Do not have to take the final if you have an A. Just read the book!!!
Go to class to get credit for the clicker questions. You can miss 3 clicker sessions without losing any points to your grade. She gives a lot of extra credit on aplia and in other assignments. I got between a 80-83 on all 4 exams and I didn't have to take the final. With all the extra credit I got an A. Not too difficult of a class.
Well, first I have to say... I HATE ECON, and dont see the point in my major. But! I did pull a B - she really worked the grades at the end to help us out and offered 5% of your grade as extra credit which was essentially 5 points to our final grade... but it was really hard. shes goes way to fast on the PP's - and I pulled a B by the skin of my te
Attendance is not mandatory but clickers are used so it technically an attendance grade. the homework is tedious but easy. The tests are what you would expect from marketing (not too easy not too hard). Offers a good amount of extra credit but not for a lot of points. Class is pretty easy.
not too hard not too easy. you actually learn the material but she gives a pretty good amount of work
Honestly hated this class. She takes attendance by clicker questions thats worth 10% of your grade. The tests are so hard, and there 4 of them that add up to 80% of your grade. I really havent learned a thing in this class, but she does give 10 extra credit assignment that can rise you grade by a full letter if you do them all... dont take her!
Many complain about her class being hard and boring. I enjoy economics as every business major should. There are 10 extra credit assignments that each add a point to your final grade. I study for about 30 minutes for each exam and the lowest score i got was a 94. Its all common sense.
The class is hard. Too much homework. Hard tests, and thank god she just reads the power points the book gives her so the class can read it cause if she actually taught you wouldn't understand a single thing her with her accent
Gives a TON of work. Most not relevant to class, loads up with work before exams. Ridiculous. Stress and time waster. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER. I love school, I'm an A+ student, and would never take her again.
The online homework is a joke, her test are so hard, and she is making the class harder than it needs to be. make sure you do all of the extra credit though or just avoid having her for econ if you can!
Vera made me really dislike economics class. Her lectures got me no where, the only material I learned I taught myself. I would not recommend anyone to take her class.
Dr. Tabakova has a lot of information dumping in a short period of time. You MUST attend in order to get the clicker questions as they account for a grade. It would be wiser to take this class in 1:30 rather than 1:00 to allow additional class time for practice problems. Plenty of homework and extra credit is offered. DO the EXTRA CREDIT!
I would suggest not taking this class. Its a ridiculous amount of work. I once had 22 assignments due at the end of the week. Shes very unclear and the tests are barely passable. if youre stuck in this class do ALL of the extra credit and homework and youll pass
Great class. Take her
Test are easy & she always has a review session before the test & goes over all the questions. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunity $ awards class attendance. The online assignments are easy too & you get multiple attempts and at the end of the semester she opens them all back up. Optional final exam. I got an A+ and I never went to class.
There is a lot of homework. Lots of extra credit is given. Clickers are used in class to answer questions.
If you take this class be prepared for A LOT of homework. The homework is on aplia and can be very hard. There are clicker questions each class that count for a grade so you will hurt your grade by not attending class. Her tests were pretty hard (I averaged 75-85% on each one) she does give a lot of extra credit at the end of the semester.
Print out the notes they will help but she still lectures at a fast pace. She is very nice and always willing to answer questions. I think she understands that a lot of people struggle so when she gives the extra credit TAKE IT!
Teacher is not too difficult to understand, homework for the most part is easy. Go to class and use the damn clickers.
I don't know if she still uses MyEconnLab but when I took her it was almost impossible. Had a ton of homework due on that stupid program and it never corresponded with what we were doing in class. Lectures were way to fast and very difficult to understand. Tests were also difficult. Try going to class but it doesn't help much.
She is a good teacher, but the material is what is hard to understand.
Mrs. Tabakova is really nice, but she teaches fast!. She will answer any questions you have. Go to class and to clicker questions and homework and you will be fine.
The course material is hard and her accient is sometimes difficult to understand but I would take this class. She gives tons of extra credit which isnt hard and will really boost your grade.
Vera Tabakova is a great professor. A lot of homework, extra credit, and the test are difficult. Extra credit is easy but consist of reading and writing on a topic of her choosing. She is always willing to help. 5 test... 5th test is optional to replace lowest test grade. I highly recommend taking her class.
She is very nice and very intelligent. She does have a thick accent that makes it hard to understand what she is saying at times.
The exams are close to impossible. She does give extra credit which will help big time. I would recommend taking this course online however. More access to the material would be easier than the exams she gives.
There is so many Extra Credit Opportunities it is awesome! She also drops the lowest test score which is helpful and means you don't have to take the final. Sometimes she is hard to understand because of her accent but just make sure to sit more up front. She will explain anything and tries to answer all questions. She is very enthusiastic.
Dr. Tabakova is a great professor. The class seems hard but ask for help it helps A LOT. She always recommends people with questions to stop by her office during her hours, I HIGHLY recommend you see her ASAP. If you start off ruff, you can make it up! DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!! It can make a B into an A in the end.
Dr. Tabakova is very intelligent and knows her economics. She is from Romania so she is a little hard to understand at times but will repeat herself until you understand. Very nice and approachable! GO TO THE REVIEW SESSIONS BEFORE THE TEST AND DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!!!! DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!!! DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!!!
Super nice lady. There are a lot of clicker questions that also count as participation and attendance. 4 exams kinda hard have to study a lot final is optional. Class is so long and kinda boring but the homework is online and all the powerpoint are online too so its very helpful.
Don't need the book! Course material/tests are difficult. The only time I ever studied was to read over slides the night before an exam and that's all you need if you have a general understanding of concepts. Grade went up dramatically at end of semester due to extra credit on homework assignments! I'm talking like 6 whole points, so don't stress.
Mrs. Tabakova was a good teacher, and she is very clear in her teaching (however, she does have a noticeable accent). My tests were all above 90 with minimal studying. She also gave a good deal of extra credit towards the later half of the semester, which definitely helped a lot of people out. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you'll lose points.
I was so afraid of taking Micro but Vera made it very easy. Everything was open and spelled out for you in the beginning of class. you could work at your own pace and finish assignments a month early if you wanted to. She gave extra credit at the end, so make sure you do that. I wound up with an A.
100% of the class was online through Pearson economic lab. She literally did nothing the entire semester. You have to teach yourself the course material. It is a semi-difficult class. She does give extra credit at the end. It's not impossible to do well in her class.
Great teacher. Gives a TON of extra credit and drops your lowest test grade. Great choice, take her!
Tabakova's class has been the only class that I have struggled with this past semester. The class is incredibly boring and long. I will have to take a grade replacement for this class. You have to go to class in order to get the clicker questions. Don't go? You won't pass.
Often difficult to understand and does not make class expectations clear. Withdrawn and changed my major.
Great Lectures along with helpful information and having good power points presentation.
The extremely nice lady that is easy to understand. straightforward class with many easy extra credit opportunities.
This class was terrible. It was an online summer class but she provided ZERO lectures (during the fall/spring semester there is lecture for the course). You will not learn. I got a good grade because homework had unlimited attempts and she gave extra credit, but it was a waste of money and I learned nothing. She did nothing to teach this class
If you want to barley understand what someone is saying on top of not even have a clue what is going on in the class, will already feeling a week behind when you make your way to the first day of that class, definitely take this one.
She offers zero lectures and this class has a lot of math that doesn't make sense. I wouldn't take this professor. She barely sends emails to the class. This is strictly self-taught. BEWARE!
I had the option to drop the class but chose not to because I need it for my major. She is very unorganized and only posts assignments as the weeks go on. She has 5 learning assistants that are very nice and helpful but would rather them teach than her. The clickers questions count and will make your grade drop. You have to teach yourself a lot.
I would never take a class with her again. She is very hard to understand, does not work with her students, and does not seem to care at all.
All Im going to say is that I learned more from the learning assistants than her ALL semester! She seems nice and all so I'll give her that. Her accent also is difficult to understand at times which isn't helpful in a huge lecture hall. IDK maybe with a better prof, I could've gotten an A...
Shes SO HARD! I learned more from her learning assistants than I did from her and theyre the only reason I passed. She doesnt go over whats on the test she goes over random things. Her accent is also hard to understand sometimes. She seems nice though
This class is for my major. She doesn't give good directions on her heavily graded tests. She's behind on grading assignments and does little to help you throughout the course. She can be a little condescending if you ask her a question about something. The average grade for this class was borderline failing. Never taking her again!
She was kinda mean actually.
Cant speak on her other classes, but she did very well as an HNRS professor. I enjoyed her class a lot, and learned really cool things. Hope she gets another opportunity to teach it again because it seems a lot of us were glad we chose the class. Lectures at times are boring but not challenging. May need to be persistent if you need something done
She wasn't a great teacher, she simply read her powerpoint slides and didn't explain anything in depth
Exams are quite tough, you can take perfect notes and still be surprised on the exam
If you somehow find yourself in her class make sure your immune system is working well because she doesn't care if you have a doctors note. Exams are extremely hard. Over half of my class failed.
Teacher Goes through lectures way too fast, and does not focus on the topics that will be on the exams. Does not go over the homework, and rushes students through answering point solutions questions during class.
She is a very fair professor, who has been one of my better experiences on an online course. It was not an easy topic to learn, but if you took advantage of office hours and thoroughly read the content and course modules she provides there is really no reason to get below a B-A/B. Just have to challenge yourself and be okay with being challenged.
she gives tons of resources and help, the class is just very very hard and has tons of material. you take four exams which feels like a ton, there's tons of material on each exam. she has an accent but its not very hard to understand. she will help whenever needed and class can be boring but she tries to make it fun. super nice lady just hard class
I had Dr. Vera Tabakova for Econ 2113 Principles of Microeconomics. Hard class because the material did not come naturally to me. Highly recommend studying all of the supplemental material she provides, as some of the explanations are better than the text. Re-read and re-watch videos, take notes, and be prepared to study extra. I got an A.
The professor offered lots of credit and she was fair with her grading. She offered a final exam to replace the lowest test grade. Be prepared for quizzes every week for the summer course which count towards a majority of your grade and read mostly the textbooks to prepare for any tests.
Professor Tabakova's class is challenging, but the learning assistants and resources like unstuck study helped me get through it. Stay on top of the material and you can succeed, even if the exams catch you by surprise.
do not take this class if you want to actually understand micro. She doesnt know what she is talking about, she is hard to understand, and her examples are often wrong. only way I passed is by cheating but p.s. you can try to cheat on exams she doesnt notice anything.
Overall pretty good teacher and is willing to accept her mistakes. Homework is easy just be on top of it. she drops one exam.
She is very kind. If you pay attention in class and do the assignment, you will do well. There are many assignments due weekly which help your grade. There are 4 exams, and lowest gets dropped, then one final exam. There is a lot of extra credit as well which boost your exam grades a lot.
