She explain everything really well. Take notes and read the chapters. And you will get a good grade. You can't miss a class cause once you do you will be lost cause she goes really fast

She is a good teacher.If you are intrested in the topic you will do very well. She makes you type up the notes but it is worth it in the end. If you have a question she will answer it for you. Remember if you take her class you need to study for it.

Great teacher. Dr. Madelian takes time to explain difficult concepts. She cares. The handouts are very helpful and the homework will raise your grade. I was afraid to take her from the ratings, but obviously, the people who wrote them were not great students.

I took her and i did very well but i did study, for long hours.People that say she is not a good teacher they are wrong.How do they want to get a good grade if they sleep true class or don not go to class.If you take her, read the chapter before class and re-read it after class you should be fine.

Read chapter ahead of time. She is very knowlegable but flubs some words. Take notes she tests off the book and what she presents in class. The companion web site for the book is very helpful.

She is very nice and helpfull. If you study and keep up with the material, it is much easier at the end. Her tests are all from her notes.

she's okay. no curving on any midterms/final. grading scale is curved a little bit, like 78 is a B- or something. do all hw(type notes)=guarentee passing grade. exams are fair, if attend class, study a little bit-should get atleast 70% on midterms. final was a bit difficult. boring lectures/confusing at times. take only if no other choice.

This class was not hard. I don't know what everyone is talking about. Her exams are not hard at all. She provides notes for you, all you have to do is add a few notes here and there. All homeworks are is to type your notes which are very helpfull if you put some time into them. Recommended. I am taking her again for bio 380.

I really enjoyed the material that I learned in the class, the teacher is a good helpful teacher, the tests are fair if you study and attend class youll do great. Her lecture material is disorganized sometimes and she has mood swings but overall its a good class

Her lectures are hard to grasp if you are not a good listener. Her tests are NOT hard espically the multiple choice part and she is a easy grader and gives a lot of partial credit. Very helpful if you approach for help.

She is an absolutely great lab instructor! Is her class lots of work? Yes. Are her quizzes challenging? Yes. Will you learn? YES! The people who say she is horrible are probably the lazy students who would never make it in professional school- they just want the easy A. If you want to learn AND be challenged, take her.

I dont know why people complain so much about her, is he kind of a blunt teacher? yes. but she has taught me well cuz i chose to learn. If ur looking for easy A's dont take her but u cant keep runnin all the time. took her for 107 got an A. I read lectures and the book, it wasnt that bad u lazy ppl

She may not come off as helpful but she really wants you to do well. If the class shows up she will be more generous in her curve. Nice lady but refuses to give you any idea on what the test will be on. I do not recommmend her for this class.

Dr.Madelian is an awesome instructor.I am the type that likes to go for the easy A instructors,so I really took a chance with her.It is possible to get an A.Study for quizzes(EXAMS!)they will come up on the final.Make sure to know what you're doing that day in lab,turn your cell phone OFF!She will prepare you to have excellent lab skills.

All powerpoint for lecture, but placed it online for access. She can be a bit boring, but she's not awful. If the class shows up, she's willing to curve. Read your notes and know your stuff! Not an east A. She's big on cycles and the steps involved. Overall, not bad and pretty helpful if you try. Don't piss her off with a cell phone though.

Dr. Madelian is very clear with what she expects you to do but she is very anal about little details, can scream at you in front of everybody, comes off as mean. Dr. Murray is a much better choice for lab NOT LECTURE.

don't listen to the other comments she is great. Explains well, but you do have to study very hard. It all memorization for the 2 midterms and final.

Helped me a lot

To some previous comments: of course the class involves some memorization, what did you expect from a bio class - math problems? Prof. Madelian explains the material very well and when you understand the logic of the processes in class, the memorization part isn't that hard.

She is VERY clear about the information you need to understand and her lectures are great, but her personal anger issues are a HUGE problem. She is nice on a personal level, but if you show any weakness in your technique, knowledge, or attendance, prepare to be picked on.

Take her. Yes she has some anger management issues, but that doesn't mean she can't teach. She is great and very knowledgeable. Very caring on personal level like some other person has mentioned. The class gets easier towards the end. Easy A if you pay attention to her lecture, which is crystal clear.

She is very knowledgeable and intelligent. Her lectures are rather long sometimes but they are crystal clear. She lets you know what she wants on quizzes, which are worth a huge chunk of your grade. If you slack off though prepare to get picked on! She is very picky on what she wants. Take her, the class is not difficult. You'll learn a whole lot.

Very knowledgeable teacher! but very intimidating... she constantly criticizes students so be on top of your game. REALLY good professor though and you will def learn a lot. Dont mess up on labs and do what you're told because she will put you on blast in front of the entire class.. i would still recommend her as long as you can follow instuctions

Listen, do your work, record the class, and don't be lazy, if she has favorites thats because they are working hard and she acknowledges that. You would too! Im just saying that what you should value in a professor is how much work they put in and she delivers. So if you put in just a few hours a week you will be fine. She is truly wonderful :)

She's actually a really great person if you get to know her. She tends to come off as being mean but it's because she truly wants you to learn and do things the right way. It's kind of like tough love. LOTS of memorization in this class so be prepared. Take her if you actually want to learn. Oh and she's VERY funny and witty, I liked her a lot.

Dr. Madelian is a very knowledgeable teacher. She wants everyone to leave her class with as much knowledge as she can possible pass on. She is one of the best teachers at CSUN. As long as you review weekly her notes you will get an A in the class. Its all based on her quizzes which she tells you whats on it. If she is teaching TAKE HER!!!

she is strict, but she clearly states what she wants from you for each test. she hands out chocolate before a final. If you have any questions ask in OFFICE HOURS. very helpfull, wants students to succeed andd dont be late, she will hate you for it. dont take her strictness personally, thats just how she is.

Is Dr Madelian the easiest professor you can take? No, but she will prepare you for further classes like no other. She's clear about the information thats going to be on the quizzes. Shes HUGE on attendance and hates when people come to class late. If you cant take tough love then shes not for you...Overall, her positives outweigh her negatives...

Wonderful professor. Her lab is very interesting yet you need to work hard to get good grades on the tests. Final is very easy. Don't be late to class and don't just guess answers because she will expect an explanation. You will learn so much with her. Definitely recommended!!! She also lectures so well that it will help with your lecture class

Dr. Madelian was extremely tough, however she is the only teacher I had for the Fall semester where I actually learned. She is crystal clear, but is tough. Always be prepared for class or else she will pick on you. **Always answer questions if she gives any in class for possibe points. She likes clean, and organized work. Don't be sloppy.

One of the best teachers I have ever had. She is tough but extremely fair, and I learned more in her class than all my other classes combined this semester. Do not show up late!!! Make sure you are prepared for class and that you do your labs correctly or she will call you out on it in front of everyone.

Dr. Madelian is an amazing lab instructor. She is very strict about lab techniques but I appreciate that since it is a very important skill to have. This lab is no walk in the park but if you take good notes from her lecture and pay attention to everything she says you will be fine.

Expects: professionalism, listen the first time, think, be punctual, STUDY FOR QUIZ/LAB, to be proactive Email her that you are going to be late/ absent with valid reason and don't make it a thing & she is understanding. She is tough and makes you earn your grade BUT she cares & wants you to learn, and is preping bio students for careers.

The reviews are true. Scared the life out of me in the beginning, but she is an amazing lecturer. Taught everything crystal clear (better than my lecture prof) and she truly prepares you to do well in the microbiology field. Feel very knowledgeable after her lab. Much respect and admiration for Dr. Madelian.
