She was amazing!!!! Loved the class(:
She is a really grate teacher. You have no essays or any type of writing in this class! There is 4 novels you have to read and have a quiz over them but their just 10 questions each. You only 2 exams and 1 final. Final is non cumulative. The exams were pretty easy. You do have to attend lecture because she does not posts her PowerPoints. Take her!!
McInnis was a very sweet professor. Her tests were fair and based entirely on lectures and based off of the quizzes over 4 novels that were read throughout the semester. McInnis tended to ramble on about facts that were minute which you were never forced to recall again which was aggravating at times. She also was really quiet, so sit up front!
McInnis is a good prof. Her teaching style is very fast paced, so it's vital to take notes fast. Make sure you know every person she mentions in lecture. The three exams are difficult. Read notes multiple times and get other classmate's notes. Study a lot. And do not expect a curve to your final grade. I got an 89.3, she did not budge for the A.
I had to study a lot for this class. Just be prepared to take fast notes and possibly record the classes. Her tests are fair but you have to know your stuff. All in all, it was an interesting class and she is a great professor.
She was always very energetic and happy to be there, but it almost felt as if she didn't know the information that well and that she was learning along with us (she's from England, and has not lived in Texas that long). However she loves doing research for students who have questions that she wasn't able to cover in class.
Professor McInnis is a wonderful and extremely helpful teacher. She is very clear on the information she presents. If you actually read the books and attend class, you should have no problem with her class.
Pretty easy class as long as you go to every lecture and read every book that has a quiz on it. NO TEXTBOOK which is nice. Read the 3 or 4 books she gives you to have quizzes on as soon as she mentions them!!! Tests aren't very difficult; you just have to study your notes over and over again. I took her for both histories.
She's nice! Study hard for the tests they are not as easy as you think. All test questions are straight from the notes. No text book use. Come to lecture. The final is not cumulative. There are 3 or 4 books and quizes on each book. READ THE BOOKS! Do not wait to start reading, read them as soon as she mentions the books!
Great Prof. Took her for both Hist 105 & 226 and got an A in both. Her tests come solely from the notes which she doesn't post online so attendance is mandatory. There's 3-4 books that you have to read and be quizzed on, but not difficult and the quiz questions are usually asked again in the tests. Multiple choice tests!
Excellent professor. You have to attend class but she does make powerpoints that make lectures easy to follow in class. You do have to read a few books and take in-class quizzes on them but they aren't too bad. There were only three multiple choice tests with the final only over the last section of material. Overall easy class.
She's a great professor. There are 2 opportunities for extra credit. Lectures are entertaining. You must go to class to get the notes! All of the tests are based on the notes and videos she shows in class. There are 4 book to read, but they're not a bore. Very helpful and lovely. Would take another class with her:)
My absolute favorite professor at A&M. She is so sweet and cares so much about her students. You must attend class and take good notes! The exams aren't hard! She is helpful in her office hours and really wants students to learn. I have taken two courses with her and made As in both! Did I mention she's British??
I took her summer school class this summer and absolutely loved her! She is british but easy to understand. As long as you memorize your notes you will be good for the test. Also, all her quizzes are posted on Study Blue
Professor McGinnis is a wonderful instructor. If you have a question she will use her personal time to find information for you, going so far as to spend hours researching something just to help a single student. She's one of my favorite instructors. Attend class, take notes, and read the books. You'll have no trouble with it.
She talks incredibly fast in lecture, but everything on the exams are covered in lecture. No surprises!
Her tests are so specific and full of unbelievably trivial questions. Good at recalling who the defendant's lawyer was for an insignificant court case? How about what book an author wrote who she happened to mention for one second during one of her two hour lectures? than this is the class for you
I could rave about her for hours. Super sweet, amazing teacher, british. This is one class I'm always excited to go to. She personally knows my name and will do hours of research to find out the answer to a question I asked in class. My fav prof, made freshman year easy to get through. I plan on taking a class just so I can have her again. Love her
test questions come from lectures. questions are very specific about little details.
Only a few grades for the semester, no writing
Very sweat lady, lectures are very fast. Just take notes quickly and memorize them, that will help you to pass the exams. There are also couple of small books you will have to read for quizzes. That is the whole grading in the course. Sometimes gives questions about small details on exam, but overall a good professor and not a hard class. Made an A
There are 2 tests and the final is not cumulative. All are 50 multiple choice questions. You do have to read 4 books that she assigns and take quizzes for, but they're not long and boring. The quizzes are 10 multiple questions. She does speak rather fast, but is willing to repeat it if you ask. Read over notesA
Dr. McInnis is very sweet and cares about her students! She gave three tests, all of which required a lot of studying for a B. Final is not cumulative. I would take from her again.
She is the sweetest prof ever! You have to go to class because she doesn't put notes online. Her lectures are long, but not boring. She is BRITISH!!. Her tests were fair, meaning if you studied her notes then you would probably do well. She had three or four books for us to read. I only read one and sparknoted the rest and made 80's on all of them!
I loved Professor McInnis. She is very funny and makes class interesting by telling funny stories she finds about the subject we are going over. You will write ALOT of notes in her class so be prepared to short hand write. She doesn't write much on slides so you have to really listen. But her tests are straight forward from what she says.
British accent, but she repeats a lot. TAKE THOROUGH NOTES! I'd recommend recording lectures to help. Read the novels (10 questions each, multiple choice) She won't bore you to sleep, cute and spunky. Tests are EASY if you review good NOTES! Attendance isn't counted, but there's no other way to pass without going.
Spunky, sparkling, and I will never get tired of the light Cornish lilt to her perfect British English. No textbook (read 4 short books and took quizzes) but bring a laptop and type down EVERY WORD SHE SAYS. Study those notes hard for tests. She is a brilliant lecturer - extremely organized. Fabulous prof.
She was a good professor, always stopped if anyone had questions over the lecture. The exams weren't so difficult.
This lady kicked my butt freshman year in Texas History. I just graduated and this class was the only C I ever made. I've lived in Texas my whole life. The problem is she accidentally focused on all of the women in Texas History. I didn't pay attention to that stuff. Also I slept through class a lot.
sweet British lady! MUST ATTEND because she doesn't post her powerpoints and all of her tests pertain to info from them!!!! expects you to know a broad range of info because she gives detailed lectures and she could pull any character or fact from them! good class- would take with her again. read 4 books-just used sparknotes and got AB's
Dr. McInnis is an incredible professor. She is deeply knowledgeable in her Texas History. She does talk fast however, but she will repeat if you ask. The 3 tests were Multiple ChoiceTrue-false 50 questions each. 4 books to read and a 10 question MC quiz for each one.
Dr. McInnis is a very sweet and down to earth lady. However, her British accent can be hard to hear, but if you ask, she will repeat. You definitely need to be in class because her lecture information is vital to passing the exams. A lot of books, which I still don't see the point in why she assigns them. Anyways, a cute and spunky woman.
This class was easier than most classes I took in high school. Read your books (and take notes while reading), take good notes during lectures, and you're good.
Super nice lady.
Just go to class. Tests are just a regurgitation of what she's lectured, even though she does cover a lot.
She is super nice and can hold your attention well! Her tests are very easy as long as you take good notes!
You can not understand what she is saying half the time. She goes so fast. I would not reccomend taking her. If you look up her grades they are way lower than the other profs. I swear no exaggeration we have ten pages of notes every class. You zone out for 30 sec and your done. Her exams are hard. Allot of EXECPT questions.
Dr. McInnis is a great prof! She is very dedicated about history; especially when it comes to women's roles. She talks extremely fast, so be prepared to type... A LOT!! She has a British accent that can be hard to understand at times, but she will repeat anything if you ask her to! Overall wonderful person, I would take her class again!
Dr. McInnis is such a sweet lady who really cares about her students! Her lectures may be hard to understand at times, but she does go slow to ensure good note taking. TAKE NOTES ON A LAPTOP AND MAKE YOUR LIFE SO MUCH EASIER! Overall great class! Tests are straight from lecture and are not cumulative and I've already signed up for her 106 class!
Hands down one of the best professors I've ever had! Her lectures were always very organized, and it shows that she wants her students to not just pass the class but understand the material. If you ask a question and she doesn't know the answer, she will research it for you and give you an answer the next time! TAKE HER CLASS.
Very sweet woman who cares for each student. Grading is clear, 3 exams and 4 reading quizzes (10 Q's) over out of class books. The books are pretty interesting and she gives a reading guide to help and you need to read them to pass the quiz. Textbook not required, exam is all over lecture material.
She is a great professor! You can tell she cares about her students. For HIST 105 you have to read 4 books along with 4 quizzes. Not bad. Her lectures are pretty long. Her tests are straight from the lectures. They're not that hard, but you will have to study to get that A. Overall, she is such a nice lady and I would take another class with her.
This teacher is awesome! Her lectures are great and explains very good. Her class is fairly easy, but never miss lectures, or you will miss a large portion of material. 4 books to read isn't bad either. I'm willing to take HIST 106 with her, she is just good teacher
I LOVED Dr. McInnis and would definitely take a class with her again!! She's an adorable English lady and her accent rocks ( you can still clearly understand her). Her lectures are very straight forward, but you don't want to miss any!! Her tests are based completely off of her lectures and are incredibly detail oriented so take good notes!
While I loved Dr. McInnis as a person I found her class very long and boring. She is very kind and cares about you. She gets to know many of her students. On the down side I found my self watching the clock every class
Her lectures are boring but that's exactly what her test are on so go to class. She will give you books to read and have a 10 question quiz. Exams will be over lecture including 10 question over book. If you just make flashcards of the lectures from day one up until exam and study them, you will ace the exam. She is very general on exam question.
I LOVED Dr. McInnis. Bases the lectures off her own research. Is always helpful with questions, you'll get your answer the next lecture if she doesn't know it. Would recommend to go visit about learning styles during office hours. SAVED MY SEMESTER. She gets to personally know students if you make an effort. Would take again in a millisecond.
She's is such an awesome prof! So sweet and her tests are straight from lecture. Go to class because she doesn't post any notes online, she makes you read a few books but they aren't too bad. She's great would take her again.
Dr. McInnis is such a sweet lady. Her lectures are well organized and her accent is really cute. Her tests are hard, but everything on them is covered in lecture. For me, I studied really hard, but just couldn't memorize all of the small details and got a B on every test. We read three books during the semester with one quiz over each one.
You have 4 books to read with 4 quizzes on them. The quizzes aren't hard at all. The tests are very specific and detailed oriented. She will put small statistics she spoke about for 10 seconds on the test. Notes need to be taken on a laptop bc there is no way you can get everything she says down by writing. She's a great prof
She is a great teacher, and I learned so much from this class. However if you are expecting an easy A for history, think again because you definitely have to work hard for an A in Dr. McCinnis's class
Professor McInnis is awesome! She's super sweet and enjoys getting to know her students. She has slideshows that she puts main bullet points and talks about which is what her tests are over. The test are fairly easy and extremely straight forward. There is slight reading and quizzes over them but they're not hard
3 exams & four quizzes over four different novels. The quizzes are extremely easy, you don't need to read in detail, skimming spark notes is more than enough. Tests are ehh. Not terribly detailed but kinda. Helps to go to class & take notes. That would get you an A for sure. General understanding of history gets you an easy B. No Attendance.
All tests are based on lecture material which are not posted online. It would be beneficial to network with the class (i.e. a giant group message with a google doc for class notes.) Her powerpoints are vague, so you really have to listen and write everything down to do well on the tests. She assigns 4 books to read outside of class.
Pretty mediocre class. This prof really doesnt know how to lecture in a way that easily translates into notes. No textbook, so go to class. Frequently mentions random things in passing with no other explanation that you won't know will be on the test or not. She doesn't know anything about . 3 tests + 4 quizzes on novels.
Very helpful and super nice professor. Super sweet lady and graded tests very fast, usually the day we took it which was really nice. Tests are based off lectures not book so I would recommend going to class. Will gladly help you if you ask questions or go to office hours.
I absolutely adored McInnis! She's the sweetest lady I've ever met and so eager to help you succeed. Be sure to attend every class, as she does not post her lecture materials/ slideshows online. She doesn't ever try and trick you on her tests, usually super simple and straightforward. Loved her but this class is not neccessarily an easy A.
McInnis is a great professor, but she is also tough. I missed a quiz because there was no open parking on campus and she wouldn't let me make it up (you have to have a university excused absence) so I ended up getting a B instead of an A. Her exams aren't tough, but she gives you a LOT of info during lecture so studying can be difficult.
McInnis was my favorite professor of all time. Her lectures are very clear. If you go to class and learn what she teaches you'll make an A, but you definitely have to try. I didn't read a single book she gave to us to take a quiz over but I skimmed through them and read online review over them.
She's an amazing prof, as long as you go to class and do the assigned reading for the quizzes. Her lectures are very clear, and she gives very specific and detailed information. Her tests are based entirely on lecture material. I'd absolutely take this class again; she's super sweet and wants you to do well.
Going to lectures is a must because she doesn't post her PowerPoints, but I loved how she would explain and talk about topics. She's very willing to repeat herself if asked, and most of the time she repeats what she said without being prompted. You don't have to read the textbook, but she has novels that she quizzes you on but they're short & easy.
I would look forward to going to this class because she is amazing! She's so cute with her slight British accent and her tests are based on what she tells you in class ans she's always willing to repeat herself. You don't need the textbook you just read short novels that are short and the quizzes are easy. I also took her for 105 and made an A.
Have to know every detail on 30+ pages of typed lecture notes for exams.
McInnis lectures a ton. There is no textbook so even if you are no-one to usually take notes take notes in this class. Review the notes bc thats hat the tests are usually based off of. Be sure to know women she mentioned bc she is big into womens role in history. The quizzes are decent just be sure to have a general knowledge and read the book.
Proff McInnis is really cool! There is much to learn in her class, and a lot to write down, but her tests are very simple. The question format is straightforward and easy. I would take any history class with her.
Be ready for notes because that's all you'll be doing in this class. The tests, which are normally around 50 questions, are based off of these notes, and are generally very straightforward and mostly easy. Her lecture speed is quite fast, but she will repeat information. No textbook, but extremely mandatory lecture. Also some easy novel quizzes.
I loved her for HIST 105. She is absolutely amazing and unlike the other profs that teach the course she has powerpoints that accompany her lectures. Super helpful in office hours as well. Loved her to death-- take her or Collupy (no one else). Tests are EXACTLY like her notes from lecture, her quizzes over the "required" books aren't hard either.
she's an amazing woman and is very knowledgeable about what she's teaching. clear lectures, but there's a lot of material on each test and there are few tests (that have heavy influence on your grade in the class)
I had her for both Texas and US history. She is the most caring prof I've ever had and I am sad I don't need any more history credits, because I love her class. She makes history interesting by little fun fact and jokes every now and then. There's only 3 exams but non are comprehensive so don't be scared. Just study and read.
Lectures are much better than some history I've had. Tests are not hard, but include details from class so you can't miss and expect an A. Quizzes are easy if you've read the books. I never touched the textbook. McInnis is very helpful in office hours if you don't understand a book and also gives really good answers to questions asked in class.
Dr. McInnis' class is not just an easy blow off class. I thought it was going to be so I basically left this class to my last priority but you cannot do that. MUST go to class. You take ALOT of notes and she goes fast. Doesn't post notes online. She only curves literally 2 points for the entire semester. Have to read some books but they weren't bad
She is a very fair professor but attendance is mandatory because her test questions come straight from her lecture so type down everything she says because her powerpoints only have a couple words on them. There are 3 tests and 4 quizzes they are not hard as long as you study for them as they are straight forward.
Dr. McInnis is very sweet and is very good at teaching history. The books that she assigns are pretty interesting, as long as you approach it with the right mindset. Her lectures can get a little boring but I blame the subject, not the teacher. All you have to do is regularly go to class and study.
Mrs. McGinnis was an awesome professor and an awesome professor. You have to read for 3 different reading quizzes but she makes history interesting.
Professor McInnis is a sweet lady. However, she speaks extremely fast and covers way too much material in one lecture. It is difficult to keep up, especially since she talks like if we were conversating. There are only 3 exams; therefore, it is super necessary to do well in the first one. I honestly would NOT recommend her for a History class!
Sweet lady, but an AWFUL class. I dread going every day, & the tests are stupid hard. Her lectures are confusing and dull, and she gives us no guidance or hints as to what is going to be on the exams. 10/10 would NOT recommend taking this class. I never make lower than a B in any of my classes, & I'm making a D in this one to give y'all and idea.
Not an easy class. There are 3 books you have to read for quizzes and everything else is based off her lectures. The only reason I got an A in this class is because I did super well on the final. She's not the worst but not the best. Her British accent is super cute though.
YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS! Not because attendance is mandatory, but she gives SO MUCH information in her lectures, and she goes pretty fast. You have to read 4 books & take quizzes over all of them. Material wasn't hard & exams were straight forward, there's just a lot of information to know for each exam! Not too bad, and I'd take it again.
She does NOT put lectures or anything online so if you do not go to class you will not do good. there is no textbook but like 5 small novels you must read for the quizzes. on the bright side, once you finish a section you are done with it! She has an accent but its not hard to understand her at all!
She is a good professor, and as long as you attend class and do the readings you will pass.
She is a sweet professor who tries her best to make the subject interesting. Her lectures are highly detailed and tedious to sit through. She does not post powerpoints so you have to attend class and write your own notes, as she doesn't use a textbook. Her tests are fair, but there is so much material to study that it can be overwhelming at times.
The class is made of 4 reading quizzes over books and 3 tests. You need to attend class for lectures because the exams are straight from them. She is so kind and makes lecture interesting. She has the cutest British accent , but its easy to understand! Use flashcards/quizlet when studying because it is a lot of content, but its straightforward!
Dr. McInnis is a great History professor. Please take her. Exams come straight from lecture but they are very easy with good notes. You must go to class as her exams are very lecture-heavy. There are 4 quizzes on books that you must read outside of class. she includes some questions over the books on her exams. None of her exams are cumulative.
This lady is super cool as a person and a prof. She is easy to listen to and is really good at explaining history and linking it all together. Her specialty is Women's history and she infuses that into the entire course. Her tests are easy if you put in the expected work. Lots of reading but definitely manageable. 10/10 would recommend.
Prof McInnis is super sweet. As long as you show up take good notes, read the required books for the quizzes you will do fine. Test questions come directly from her lectures don't by the textbook. I recommend using notecards when studying... super helpful for me!!
Dr. McInnis is a good professor. Even though her lectures are never posted online, as long as you go to class and take down notes and study the notes, you will get a goo grade. There are 3 quizzes in the class based on different books, but if you study the Quizlets, you should get good grades on those too
If you don't attend lectures then you will never pass. Her lectures are an hour long but is a lot of material. Quizzes over the books she makes you read. There are three exams each worth 20% so don't fail any of them. Grade on the exam is practically your class grade. She does give 1 point of extra credit. Study a bit and you'll be fine.
Easy lectures to follow with powerpoints. A solid professor who isn't too hard. Tests are based off the lectures and quizes are based on the assigned novels. The class is straight forward, she occasionally adds tricks questions on tests. Some effort is required to get a B or better but it is easily attained.
I just registered to take my second history course with Verity McInnis. She is loud and clear during her lectures and has a very inviting personality. I did not use the textbook, I did read the additional (required) books, and I took notes during the lecture and I did well in the course.
I love Dr. McInnis! She was my favorite professor this semester. I just signed up for HIST106 with her because she is that great. 3 exams, 4 reading quizzes (but they are relatively easy). You must go to every lecture and take thorough notes to get an A but it is very doable. I am no history person but she makes history much more fun for me.
She's a sweet british lady who really cares about her students and history. Tests come straight from lecture and are very straightforward. However, each test covers SO MUCH information (30+ pages of notes) that it can be extremely overwhelming. If you're good at memorizing tons of little bullet points take her. Overall easy B, tough A.
McInnis is not only enthusiastic about what she teaches, but she is also a good teacher. Attendance is not mandatory, but we always take a lot of notes that go hand in hand with the tests. Tests are super straight forward and are just like the notes if they are detailed. Just beware there is a ton of material on the tests, so study the notes!
Mcinnes is a very sweet British lady who really knows and loves the material she teaches. Her lectures are packed and can sometimes be overwhelming, and due to her being from the UK sometimes her wording can be kind of tricky on the tests so please do not be afraid to ask for clarification - if enough people are having trouble she will curve!
This class is easy for most. The extra credit can be difficult to get and it isn't very much. Still an enjoyable class, but be ready to take notes the whole time and read four outside readings. I definitely recommend her and will be taking her again.
I took her for both TX history and US history! Super sweet, but also strict when it comes to missing a quiz/test. If you are late, she will not let you make up w/o University Excused Absence and no exceptions. Her tests cover A LOT of material, but are fairly worded. 3 Exams, not cumulative, no final. Readings are boring-worst part of the class.
Very caring and nice prof. She relates lectures with examples and makes it easier to understand. Didn't buy the recommended textbook. Honestly I also didn't touch some of the assigned novels and still managed to pass the quizzes over them. I plan to take her for HIST106, but I'll read the novels this time. Get a large spiral for the lectures.
Amazing professor! Very kind and everything you need is in the lecture. So go to class and you'll do fine. I took HIST 105 and 106, few quizzes, three exams.
You can tell she cared about her teachings and her students. It was very lecture heavy to where the only notes you were going to get is from the ones you wrote down from the lectures. She has several reading quizzes, but their relatively easy. Overall she is a good professor, but be ready to take notes for the entirety of class.
Lectures are boring and far from cohesive
I had her for 105 and 106 and I can say that her class is the easiest I had both semesters. Her class is 100% lectures so if you skip you're going to have to get notes from someone else. There is no homework other than a few books and her exams are completely multiple choice, so you can get an A or B with very little effort. Definitely take her.
Professor McInnis is soooooo sweet. Her classes are easy. You should definitely go to class though because her tests are really lecture heavy. She does do book quizzes but I managed to get an A on all of the quizzes without needing to read the book. Attendance is not mandatory but I would recommend attendance just for notes.
McInnis is from GB - so she has an accent - easy to understand though! Her quizzes are super easy and the exams are straightforward knowledge questions! I recommend her just based on the grading side. She is the easiest test-maker I have taken for history classes. She has curved all our exams by two points - 3 exams - 4 quizzes.
Dr. Mcinnis is a great lecturer, her lectures are in the form of a narrative and are easy to follow. She does speak quickly so make sure you take good notes & write down only what is important (things she repeats). She requires you to read 4 novels over the course of the semester and has quizzes over each one. Her tests are fairly straight forward
I took professor McInnis for History 105 and I am about to finish her 106 class! She is so positive and such a lovely person. She makes her lectures interesting and really gets into what she is talking about. Taking her class means reading selected books and there are quizzes over them. Three exams and no final. Also, she usually shows videos.
Dr. McInnis is an excellent professor and she gives very good lectures. Her exams are difficult, but she offers plenty of help outside class. If I simply would have studied more, I would have received a better grade. Overall, it was a very fun and interesting History class to be in.
All tests are lecture based so theres no textbook. Test is very specific and makes you recall tiny details she covered for less than a minute, and lot of true or false which can get very confusing. Talks a little fast and there are quizzes on history novels you read on your own time. Can't miss a lecture
Dr. McInnis is a great professor. I took her this semester and I liked her allot. Her lectures are really specific, there's no textbook use so you must attend all lectures to do good in the class. Beware she talks really fast and her exams are really specific. Overall, she'll be the best HIST professor to get here!!
Very sweet and clearly cares but the 4 books that are required reading with quizzes based on them count for far too much. I got high A's on all the tests but did not do as well on the quizzes (even though I read the books) and as a result I ended with a B. She is an amazing lecturer and even though history is not my thing I enjoyed her class!
Had 4 books & had 4 quizzes, with no time to read the book. The tests were terrible & with heavy studying there is so much info on each test you can't memorize it all. She talks for the whole damn class & I would have 10 pages of notes per class. She is so boring!!! The tests were hard because she words things confusingly. DO NOT TAKE
This is a GREAT prof!! She is adorable. She has a British accent, but it is easy to understand. The tests are based on the lecture so you need to go, and take good notes. She makes history easy to understand, and her book choices are really interesting. If you don't have time to read you can study sparknotes and pass, but dont expect to get a 100
Attendance was not mandatory but exams are from lecture. There is no review so you pretty much have to remember everything she said in lecture, which is a lot. She talked very fast so taking notes was hard. My class had a group google docs that people contributed their notes too which was helpful if you missed lecture or if you wanted to compare.
Prof. McInnis is an entirely lecture-based teacher. If you skip class you will miss too much and won't do well. However, if you go to class, pay attention, and take good notes, you can easily rock it. You have to read a couple books throughout the semester, but they're easy reads and pretty interesting. Loved her!
Prof. McInnis is incredible! Her upper level history class was an even mixture of lecture and group discussion and she made the criteria and expectations for the class clear. She gives good honest feedback on your writing and doesn't just hand out grades, she requires clear analysis and developed thesis'. I would definitely take her again!!!!
Her lectures are so boring. History is much more interesting than that!! Everybody in my class wrote down every single word she says. Idk why people can learn history this way. You have to read four books and most of them are boring. There will be 10 questions she pulls from those 200-page books. Exams are lecture heavy. DO NOT RECOMMEND
If you love history, I would not recommend because I didn''t see her inspiring students. She just comes to class and talk. If you just have to take the class, wouldn't recommend neither. Too much reading, you will not know what to study for her exams. Study from notes? it's ridiculous how people go to class and write down and memorize every lecture
I honestly hate history and Dr. McInnis made it so much more enjoyable. Her lectures were engaging, and she used a variety of mediums to convey information: audio, visual, etc. She really cares about her students' success. However, her tests are quite specific, so you have to work for your grade. Definitely take her!
She lectures a lot of content, so for your exams you will have around 20 pages of notes. For the tests you really need to know all the specifics of the notes. The end of semester paper is a pain and she grades really harshly so make sure you get good grades on everything else. She takes attendance every class and is worth a 1% per absence.
I've never been in a history class where I didn't have to write a single paper. Trust me I've never wanted to write an essay so bad. She comes to class, lectures, and that's it. She does the bare minimum. Test are all multiple choice, mostly t/f and each test comes with about 20pgs of notes. You must know all the notes bc it all will be on the test
I made a mistake and believed everything I read on the internet. Do not take this course if you aren't prepared to listen and write non stop every class for 50 minutes straight. She has little to no grades which really will put you in a bind if you perform badly on one of the exams being that there are only 3 exams. Sweet lady but tests are tough):
Basic lecture heavy class. Not easy, but an easy A/B if you simply come to class, listen, and take notes. Pretty run of the mill difficulty for a school like TAMU. About what you would expect from a required core class. Shes a super sweet lady, lectures are entertaining, and is always available to help outside of class. Definitely would recommend!
Sweet professor that offers extra credit, doesn't go too fast in lecture, and helps students who seeks assistance during her office hours. As per the standard of most history classes, be careful about your grades-- if you mess up one exam, you're probably boned. Be sure to read the assigned books as well-- SparkNotes can only help you so much.
Dr. McInnis has THE BEST accent! She makes listening to history fun and engaging. Tests are a little specific but if you take detailed notes and study it hard, you'll be fine!
Really straightforward profesor. She genuinely cares about her students and always reminds them of when tests/quizzes are coming up. As long as you attend the lectures and write more than just is what is on her PowerPoints you will do well. Her tests and quizzes are all multiple choice. Tests were slightly easier than quizzes.
Very good lectures. I'll take her again if I need history
Test come straight from lecture notes, quizzes straight from books. I read none of the books and was able to make B's on the quizzes. Not many grades other than quizzes and test so prepare for that. As long as you obtain the notes from lecture, you'll be fine.
She cares about you learning how to study, and offers assistance on figuring out a study strategy for you. There is no textbook, but there are 4 small books to read that aren't too bad. Quizzes on each book, with questions about them on the exams. Lectures are structured like she's telling a narrative and she keeps them interesting. Not date heavy
very nice lady but super boring lecture. Have to read 4 books (I didn't read the entire book and did fine) and 3 tests. Lots of details and memorizing. review days were not very helpful
One of the best professors I've had at A&M. She cares about her students, is organized, and speaks clearly during her informative lectures. Attend class! Most of the test content is from her lectures. Take advantage of the extra credit options. She also provides note and test taking strategies. Dr. McInnis goes above and beyond! Take her class!!!!
Her lectures are a little heavy, but it's honestly not that bad. There are 4 required books to read for the quizzes and 3 tests. As long as you at least skim through the books and go to class, you should do really well. McInnis is also one of the kindest professors ever and she will help you in any way she can. I definitely recommend taking her.
Mcinnis is an awesome prof whose really easy to talk to and makes lecture interesting. That being said prepare to write down everything in class because theres no textbook, powerpoint, etc. Attendance isn't mandatory but is absolutely crucial to passing. Go to class, take notes, and read the books and you'll get an A
Literally GO TO CLASS, take good notes during the lecture, and all you will have to do before the test is read over your notes twice. Ignore the anecdotes for the test, they are just to make class interesting. 4 book quizzes- i never read an entire book. Read intros/outros and skim book. Im awful at history but all you have to do is minimal effort.
This prof is one of the best profs that i've ever had she's hilarious and really knows the mterial. She uses her lectures very effectivly to teach all students exactly what they need to know, not only that she actually tests students over information covered in class. Overall she is a great prof and her class is an easy A if you just show up.
Somehow never stopped smiling the whole semester. I have no idea how that's possible.
I loved Dr. McInnis and her class. She is so knowledgable and is so passionate about history. I really enjoyed going to class every day. 2 papers and 2 tests and she is a very fair grader. She also loves class discussions so you really should read the book to be able to participate, but you really WILL wanna participate because she is awesome! :)
Dr. McInnis was great! She made coming to class so enjoyable and she really cares for her students. Class was a mix of lecture and discussion so keep on top of the readings to participate. Two exams and a final paper made up the rest of the grade, neither of which was too hard. Take her!
Such a nice prof! But she does not post powerpoints, and they only consist of bullet points of main topics anyways. I found you had to write down pretty much everything she says about each bullet point to make sure you have all the info. I missed some things sometimes which made tests a little difficult. Also you have to read 4 books for quizzes.
Presents material clearly and enthusiastically. Class must be attended since exams are almost entirely based on lectures and slides are not posted. Difficult multiple choice exams. Exams include trivia about the lectures themselves, e.g. "Which of the following was not mentioned in lecture?". Just memorize everything she says during class.
Great professor! I loved this class, and I don't even enjoy history. The entire grade is based on reading quizzes for three books that we had to read, and the three tests. While attendance is not mandatory, you NEED to go to class. Tests are based mostly on lectures with a couple questions on the books and she does not post lectures online.
If you skip lectures, you are screwed because she doesnt post them online. Also be ready to read lots of books in this class. You will have to write In class essays as well as in class quizzes over the books. There are only three exams and they are lecture heavy. Overall, great prof and great class. She makes history interesting.
Mcinnis is a great prof. Everything is super straightforward with her. You do need to go to lecture in order to get the notes, but she made sure everybody had a note taking partner in case you had to miss. She had extra credit and the exams were straight from the lectures. Book quizzes were easy if you read. She talks pretty fast though.
HIST 106 with McInnis is the easiest History class you'll ever take in college. Exam questions come straight from lecture and the last few questions on the exams are from the books she assigns you to read; super easy! The quizzes on the books she has you read are also easy! A must take if you're trying to fill a History credit.
GO TO CLASS! Lectures can seem long and wordy, but exam questions are straight from lecture. There are a few books you will read and I think one quiz per book but she also talks about important stuff in the book during class. She is very enthusiastic about what she teaches and definitely tries to keep everyone interested. There are worse profs :)
I could write an entire essay on Professor McInnis. I struggled a lot this semester in regards to late work due to personal problems. I could not have done it without her constant support and amazing qualities as a teacher. As for the coursework, it was def writing heavy but super interesting topics which helped. take her you will not regret it!
For her class we wrote lots of papers on books we read. The books were interesting but don't leave it to the last minute some are long. Her tests are very straight forward from her lectures. If You take good notes and actually watch her lectures you should be good. Shes also British which is cool
The only grades for this class are the 4 reflection papers and the 3 exams. Depending on who the TA is for the semester, they may grade the papers harder. Don't slack off on the books, those grades can make or break you. Exams are straightforward and are over the lectures and the books.
This was a fairly interesting class that is definitely one of the easier As you can get. There are annoying outside reading assignments which are the most challenging aspect of the class, but outside of those it really isn't too difficult if you show up to class. Dr. McInnis seems nice enough and was pretty funny.
First A that I have ever made in history in my life. She had interesting lecture content, was engaging, and chose good books too. Read the books and take notes over her lectures and you'll be fine. Being in a study group helped a lot.
All of the exams come straight from her lectures- literally word for word. You have 3 exams, 3 papers from textbook readings and a few other small assignments. This class was pretty easy but I learned so much! Dr. McInnis is one of the best professors I've had at A&M so far! Take this class!!!
I love this woman. She sent out weekly emails letting us know what we were doing in class each day. So much time to work on assignments. Genuinely a nice person who gave so much feedback on our essays, and I hope I get to take her again.
Prof. McInnis is a caring person. She sent out weekly emails and always kept us informed. The lectures are information heavy so get ready to type, but the exams aren't too bad. There are a few reflection papers, so DO read those books. Overall, great class.
There were not many assignments and the syllabus is clear about due dates. She gives extra credit. There were 3 exams worth 60% of your grade but I never received a grade of less than a C. There were also 3 papers worth 30% of your grade.
She has to be the nicest and most genuine professor/teacher I have ever had. There were 3 tests, 3 reflection papers over books you have to read and a few other small things but nothing hard. The exam questions were word for word from her lecture so be sure to take good notes. Definitely recommend taking her for a history credit!
Dr. McInnis is one of the most caring professors I've had at TAMU. She gives grace so much and really knows all that college students are going through. When my paper didn't save when I submitted it to Blackboard, she allowed me to turn it in late with no penalty. Not something every professor would do. I love her!
THE G.O.A.T PROFESSOR IN ALL TAMU. I took Professor McInnis for HIST105/106 and it was the EASIEST class you'll ever take. You'll read about 3 books a semester with a reflection for each, nothing too hard. Exams are open-note which is why attendance is critical, she might say something that is not on the PowerPoint. She really is a 11/10.
Great prof, easy class. The papers over the books were not difficult. I did not read them and made As on all. Tests are open note so definitely go to class. I am taking her again for 106.
Wonderful professor, she is super understanding and just wants you to do well. almost every assignment is a written paper but they are straight to the point and never too lengthy. I highly recommend you take her class :)
I have never evaluated a professor before but Mrs. McInnis deserves this rating. One of if not the best teacher I have ever had. She talks at a reasonable pace during lectures unlike a lot of other professors and honestly wants to just see her students succeed. The exams are open note but If you pay attention during class, you won't need them.
She is a very kind professor who really cares about her students. You will have a few books to read and papers to write, but all are graded VERY easily. Test are open-note and there is no attendance. I highly recommend you take her class. She also has a British accent which is dope.
Dr. McInnis is super nice and very funny, and this class is a breeze if you attend regularly and pay attention. The pop quizzes were a little annoying due to their format, but the tests and essays were not difficult (at least compared to other similar-level history classes). The subject itself is quite interesting as well in my opinion
Attendance is not mandatory but entirely necessary because her exams are based on her lectures. Three books to read and three essays to write (honestly don't need to read the books to get a good grade on the essays, if you're good at comprehension). Funny with a beautiful accent. Overall great professor with straightforward and chronological exams.
TAKE HER!!!!! 3 papers - graded super easily, 3 exams - open note and follow with lectures perfectly. As long as you attend class to take notes, you will get an A. She is very clear and concise during lectures and gives you enough time to type everything you need. Take her, take her, take her, I cannot stress this enough, TAKE HER!!!!!
Tests consist of 20 multiple-choice and T/F questions and they are taken outside of class and are open note. The reflection papers are only 2 pages long and aren't that bad if you understand what's expected of you and PAY ATTENTION TO THE RUBRIC! 2 journal entries based on documentaries, extra credit is given once and lectures are reasonably paced.
Dr. McInnis is so sweet! All exams are open note and come word for word from her lectures, so be sure to go! She is very caring and nice and only wants you to succeed. The papers are easy, but depending on your TA, they made grade easier or harder. Take her! I definitely recommend(:
I wish I could take her again! coming to her class was honestly fun and exciting!!
Our class was a hybrid, mostly taught by Sarah Vegerano on Thursdays, and both ladies are awesome! Clear grading criteria, in-class group assignments, minimal homework, no tests! There is a research paper and a final paper, but it's very doable. I can't stress enough how awesome their style of teaching is. Def recommend. slay
I took the 1 day a week course with Dr. M which was more discussion and class activity based than lectures so eh. Have to do the readings before coming to class bc she will expect a lot of people to discuss it. TA graded our papers and she graded easy if you just include all the big points. I think I would have liked the regular lecture better.
Took a hybrid course with her, only met once a week for an hour. No exams, no final, only essays and weekly easy quizzes. Lovely, sweet, and caring professor. Many in-class group projects, but they're very easy. Highly recommend.
She is very nice. As long as you go to class and take good notes you will pass. Everything is open note and straight forward.
Dr. McInnis was a very kind and caring professor! There weren't exams in this class. Yes, there is a lot of work to do outside of class, but expectations are clear and I didn't find any assignment to be too difficult. Grade consists of attendance, a few papers, and weekly exit tickets. I would take this class again!
Dr. McInnis is a very sweet and caring professor! Her class consists of 3 exams, but they're online and open-note, 2 quizzes over short readings, and a few discussion papers that weren't bad. She did assign some readings that you need to read for exams, quizzes, or discussion papers, but they were very entertaining, in my opinion. Take her!
Professor McInnis was amazing! She walks you through the notes you must take during class in an organized manner. The notes you take are literal exam questions. You can use your notes for quizzes and tests. Take exams and quizzes in your own time on the given day, no camera. Show up to class and you will get a high grade!
Dr. McInnis made history very fun to learn. Her lectures were very engaging, and they were insightful and easy to follow along with. The exams are heavily dependent on the lectures, so it is important to go to class and take notes. However, there was never a boring lecture, and she was a very kind and caring professor. Definitely would recommend!
History is pretty boring to me, so i may be a little bias. Couldn't convince myself to attend lectures when most assignments and exams could be completed online. But it was all quite easy and doable.
I liked this class with Dr. McInnis! She has very engaging lectures and she makes history interesting! Exams and quizzes are online and easy! There are a few short papers throughout the semester but all are easy if you follow the rubrics!
Didn't take attendance, and all assignments, quizzes, and exams were online open note. Super easy class with this professor to get the mandatory History credit. Her British accent also keeps lectures interesting; however, I rarely went because everything was posted online, and attendance didn't matter.
Great professor! If you go to class and just type what she says you will make an A for sure. Open note exams and quizzes. 2 midterms, 1 final, 1 video essay, 2 quizzes, 2 journal entries, 1 reflection paper. She is a really sweet lady and I loved listening to her British accent! Really sad that no one goes to class at the end though.
Attendance isn't taken in this class. All exams and quizzes are also online, open-note. The material on the exams do reflect lectures, but she provides the slides for each lecture. I definitely recommend taking her!
