I AM NOT GOOD STUDENT AT NIGHT CLASSES, BUT AT DR. CROMARTIE'S CLASS, I FORGET THE TIME, THREE HOURS ARE NOTHING, TALKING ABOUT SOCIAL PROBLEMS AND OUR LIVES. EXCELLENT PERSON.
I think that this professor is very scattered, yes, you do learn some things in his class BUT.... I was one of the only NON-minority students and I constantly felt attacked in his class, by him and the other students.
my fav prof
He's the most UNPROFESSIONAL "professor" I've ever seen. He was 30-45 minutes late to 4 out of 6 class meetings, and he was constantly leaving in the middle of his "lectures", pet peeve sessions about how he didn't like the president or
Being that he is the department chair, he is very unorganized and scattered. He was late for all the classes that we have had. Be that as it may, he was very flexible when I had to miss to class and allowed me to take the exam early. He does everything in his power to help you pass his class. He has a lot of knowledge, if he was more organized, I would have enjoyed more aspects of the class, but his scattered nature was a bit distracting.
good enough....he gives you every chance to pass....there is no reason you can 't get a B in his class...shoot...i failed both the midterm and final.....
I thought he was an outstanding professor. I enjoyed his lectures and class discussions. He's cool!

I found Dr Cromartie's class very interesting. He's an extremely intelligent man and has a kind soul. Its very easy to get an A in his class.
He is an amazing teacher whose take on sociology, conflict and individual opinion are reflected in his lectures. He excells in interesting subject matter; his stories are priceless. His own involvement and dedication to both his students and the school should be inspirational to youth.. Thanks Dr.Cromartie:)
Ehh, his lectures were pretty boring and reptitive I wont lie. He's a nice fellow though. This is an easy course for sure. There are practically no assignments but 1 or 2 papers here and there. 2 major tests. He was late a lot himself, but is a stickler for taking role call.
Opinionated; doesn't encourage us to think on our own. Is clearly biased in his politics and browbeats the class with his views.
GOOD TEACHER!
good teacher, easy A. go for it!!! one thing u should know is that he is always at least 5 to 15 minutes late for class.
Easy to get an A. Just watch the videos and do you homework. Dedicated instructor.
One word..........cool!
I wouldn't take his class unless all the other schools were full Hardly taught anything at all.
He's coo, do the papers, come to class. He does give his opinion on matters, but does let others express theirs too. It's sociology
he is very strict but you will learn a lot from him. he loves to talk a lot. he's a cool teacher and mentor.
he is very strict but you will learn a lot from him. he loves to talk a lot. he's a cool teacher and mentor.
he loves to talk alot and very strict but easy.
he is a really cool teacher.an easy A no home works.2 exams and if we do all work and extra credit surely an A.he is strict but very nice and respects everybodys ideas.
Two words: anal retentive. He's strict about his rules and procedures, but he doesn't care about our learning. He's annoying, boring, and wastes time during class. He tends to make things harder than they need to be, but in general, the types of classes he teaches are easy. He's very opinionated, but he does respect other peoples' opinions.
I must agree w/ the previous comments. He is strict, he is anal, & he does make things more difficult they should be. Yet, his class discussions are engaging. To ensure an A in his TELE course #1 FOLLOW HIS RULES! Format papers EXACTLY how he wants them #2 come to class #3 DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! #4 Read the chapter THOROUGHLY, study guides are vague
I just finished taking his class of Spring 2009. I have never had a teacher who WASTES so much time in class. He spends a good 2 hours just taking roll and having people line up in front of his desk to turn in video summaries. Also he is very anal about the format your papers are in.
Acts tough ... but will bend over backwards to help you.
The worst experience I've had! I even went as far as thinking it was some sort of Psych experiment. Did not follow syllabus, wasted time taking roll, collecting homework and fussing over the location of page numbers. Lost my test, accused me of not taking the test, didn't even consider the possibility that he misplaced it.
The best professor I have ever had the honor from learning from
Great professor, Just be on time for class, follow the study guide, Do ALL the video summaries and do the extra credit it will help your grade.
Appears to be anal but he's actually engaging to point, just don't be offended if he disagrees with you. Learned alot test are mostly from reading.
Off topic, consistently late, disorganized, and rambling often about unrelated points. Generally likes to hear himself talk. Said he was a "Geechie" some minor ethnic group. Useless as a teacher. The book was good. I would take the class somewhere else if at all possible.
The class for the most part was interesting and easy to digest information. It also gave me a sense of what is expected of me a a contributing minority indivual, Thanks for everything Dr. Cromartie
Very Easy, just attend every class, do your study guides. watch your videos and do your assignments. YES, he's very picky on how he wants your essays turned in, but its really not hard to follow his format.
This class is very easy to pass. You just have to do the work (and it's not much). He is always late and super anal about the format of your papers but won't give you a bad grade if you disagree with him. Overall easy class. Just learn do deal with the analness (if that's even a word).
I really like Dr. Cromartie & enjoyed the class. Easy to get an A even if you fail 1 of the 2 exams. Essays were graded for format not content. He is really particular/anal, and always late to class but enjoyable class & has not problem if you disagree with him. I will take him again.
I really like and respect Prof. Cromartie, but he confuses students with the video and out of class assignments. He says do this for 35 pts, then you have to do four or five other things in order to get the points. He should say what he means. He is smart and loves Sociology, and teaches it pretty well. I dont think I would take his class again.
I have absolutely no respect for Dr. Cromartie. He is always late, leaves in the middle of class to make copies, wastes time, and is very biased. He is extremely political during class, and I have never been made to be as ashamed of my ethnicity (Caucasian) as I have in this class. Very rarely deals with subject matter. Avoid him if you can!
He regularly came to class 15-20 min late, spent 15 min taking roll, left class for 10 min to get handouts, spent about 90 min collecting homework which he never read or commented on. The entire semester, we had only 2 15-min lectures. Sociology book unrelated to class. He was rude & condescending. He clearly does not like teaching or students.
The guy's class is easy. Do the study guides and you'll pass the tests with no problem. It's literally all definitions. He's also very generous with extra credit. The guy himself is pretty rude and inefficiently uses time. He's always late, he surveys the class one by one when they could just raise their hands, and he never returns papers.
Dr. Cromartie is definitely passionate about his work. He has a clear style that focuses on supporting students to produce the best possible work. So, if you are not up to being challenged and following his lead (and turning off your cell phone)- do not bother.
This teacher was one the most if not the most unbearable and anal teacher. He believes his way is the only way, and wont see thing from others point(s) of views. The papers, and videos he made us students write were irrelevant and tedious. I would not suggest this professor to anyone. Avoid this class at all costs. He's always late to the class.
Easy A. Forget what all the rest have to say. You will learn something but more importantly if you do exactly as he ask you will get and easy bump to your gpa.
I took this class over the summer had basically you took 5 tests and he only counted the top 4. He gives out extra credit and make sure you do it it will definitely help your grade. Test and 2 video responses 1 pg each every week. The test is on 2 chapters. The test were not completely easy just make sure you read and do the extra credit.
I took Dr. Cromartie for Sociology 220. He is a very easy teacher and is okay with late homework. His tets are completely based on the text book. Make sure you put your homework in his format or he will make you redo it. The homework is credit/no credit.
Okay teacher, I felt like he played favorites with some of the students.
easy class!but got do all the works that he said in the class
Professor Cromartie is a very anal instructor. He starts out doing well, but then again he is late for EVERY class. Please don't let your cell phone go off (that's 30 points)or interrupt him while talking. He never allow you to complete a sentence. Just know that the work is not hard, but I truly would not recommend this instructor to anyone!
The most frustrating professor I've ever had. Class time is a huge waste, but you are required to come. Do the study guides w/ book. Don't count on getting your questions answered in class. He doesn't let anyone finish sentences unless it's a pointless story unrelated to the material. Take ANY other professor if you can! Not worth the headache!
he does not admit, people with phones or any electronics at all, ( if he even sees it he takes 30 points out). Homework can be turned in the last class, but don't advise it cos he always finds something wrong and you have to redo it. You literally pass 2 hours and a half not doing nothing, and 30 mints making questions of what you didn't understan
Easy going class. Won't be disappointed
The telecourse class meetings are a waste of time because he spends most of it collecting homework and checking its format (not content). He then allots a few minutes for Q&A on assigned chapters, then the last hour for the quiz. I personally don't think he added anything to the course; he was just like a babysitter, an anal one at that.
Easy class. You just have to do the work. Smart man, but he could care less with sticking to the theoretical aspect of the class. He talks a lot about his life, life, life, and his life. His essays are credit/ no credit- you can revise them as many times as you want- he just cares about the formatting. Can become arrogant, but overall an easy and e
easy A class. You have to write as how tells you to write. even if he says 2+2=5, u have to write that down or else u will get no credit.
Don't use your cell phone in his class. He expects every paper to be perfect, and will not accept it if it's not the way he wants it to be. Prepare to spend money on ink, and throw away lots of papers. My first B in college. ): Ugg
He is a cool teacher but he may have a attitude some days. Things not to do is the following: text, hear music, walk in late, talk while he is talking in other words not pay attention. Also, he expects perfection on his papers so expect to redo them at least 3 times.
appreciates his students, wants them to succeed but you have to do the work.Everyday you get points that add up, so it's important to go to class. Also, he does not play! He wants you to be on time and ready to work... Most important NO CELL PHONES! thats and easy way to lose points.
DO NOT BRING A CELL PHONE TO THIS MAN'S CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyways, just be respective in general. Not a hard class. You just have to take notes, read the book, do your assignments (to his guideline) & take your midterm & final. There's extra credit so do that too. Attendance is mandatory. Overall, good teacher: keep your ears open, wise man.
I enjoyed this professor. He is stern, but awesome. Has great stories to share. Very interesting man. He keeps his class in line....which I appreciate.
Easy class. just do and write what he wants you too. class is based on points so do all assignments. Book is a must read!! & turn your phone off in class but he will tke points off! trust
Very simple class just sit back and listen. He can get a little off subject from going into his stories but very wise man. Easy A for sure and if you are a Sociology major or have intrest in the field he is your go-to guy if your looking for any letters of recommendation for transfer-students
Very fun teacher! He always kept his class entertained! His class was easy! just study notes! An easy A in the class if you study for sure!
Good teacher. Test are eazy just study and PLEASE DONT USE YOUR PHONE IN HIS PRESENSE!
Most useless but easiest class to take. He is very close-minded and wants things done his way and only agrees with his own viewpoints. All he talks about is African American history. Other than that, he is easily distractable and his stories can be entertaining. Do not take if you want to learn something. All tests are vocab words from textbook.
Arrogant and closed minded. Don't take this class if you actually want to learn something or if you have an opinion. He mostly talks about African American culture and he does not relate it to sociology. Easy class. No homework, no quizzes and all his notes are available in powerpoint on the school website. Never read the book and still got an A.
I did not learn much, but it was an easy class to take. For the hybrid class, we had to watch 2 videos and write responses for it and study for the test. He is very anal, so be sure to structure those film responses right. The tests were based on the online powerpoint and the videos. Do not use your phone at all in this class!
DON'T DO IT!!!! COULD BE THE EASIEST CLASS HOWEVER HE MAKES IT SO MUCH HARDER WITH THOSE ANALYSIS PAPERS.
Simple and clear lectures. When studying, remember the terms as they are because they are worded the same in exams. Grammar, spelling and sentence count seriously matter in analysis papers. HE NOTICES EVERY DETAIL. Funny man with great stories. Very organized. Enjoyed his class!
This teacher is terrible. He is so into himself and doesn't want to hear anyone's opinion, unless it is the same as his. If you give another point of view and he doesn't like it, instead of giving reasons why he disagrees he will yell over you and tell you it is his class and to shut up. I learned nothing and still got an A. Waste of time.
there is an exam every class meeting but i didnt even read the book and got A's. it was sooooo easy. but there were students about 70% who didnt get an A which is not the prof fault at all trust me take this socio class for an easy A. i didnt learn anything. he gave everybody full credit for rxn papers. easiest class ever.
Dr. Cromartie is a very interesting teacher he makes me laugh every time I come to class. His class was not difficult, but just pay attention! He reminds the class to read each assigned chapter 3 times even though I did not see the need his study guides are very straightforward. He is very repetitive, but you will learn a lot if you apply yourself.
I did all the extra credit, went to every class and it paid off. I did a online-hybird class.
He likes to tell stories of his younger years in the middle of class, and he'll tell you them more than once. His lectures are powerpoints. The lectures are pre-posted on d2l, so it's really helpful to read those.
I took the Hybrid class and it was very easy, you do have to read and do the study guides to pass the exams.
Terrible experience with his hybrid class!! Very self absorbed. Talks more about himself and African American history than actually talking about sociology. It takes 30-40 minutes every class to take roll, hand back homework and turn in homework. He works VERY inefficiently and he makes it difficult to do well. Seems like he wants people to fail
By far one of the best teachers I've had he has a bunch of education and knows his stuff. If you go to any of his conference panels and watch movies and do the analysis of the films we watch in class and show up to class every day you can easily get an A or B. Oh yeah he doesn't play when it comes to phones. Midterms and final are super easy.
I thought he was self absorbed and doesn't pick on people who know the answers
Dr. Cromartie is a professor that is educated and knows his material. His class is fun at first, but it becomes repetitive after a while. He says many anecdotes that sometimes take a lot of class time.
During his class you will be fine just following along to the power point. He usually selects on students to read and you automatically get a point. There is only 2 test and 2 papers (which is Q and A style). Be prepared for his LIFE STORIES, interesting but pointless for the class. I bought the book I didn't even read it, still receive an A.
Dr. Cromartie is a great teacher with many interesting stories. He tells you to read the book 3 times, but I read the summaries only & memorized the key terms & got As on the midterm & final. He is very specific about what he wants, if you follow his directions you will get an A. He knows his stuff.
Cromartie is one of my favorite professors. Talks a lot about his life story and relates it to sociology. Really cool and chill guy. He has his powerpoints and everyone has access to it which helps a ton. One of my favorite professors at CCC if I'm being honest. The papers are straightforward and in a Q& A format. Just don't text in class..
Lectures are amazing and inspiring. You end up learning more than just the course book through lectures. Gives extra credit. Test are super easy if you read 3 times. Attendance is mandatory and no cell phones during class. Personally, I would recommend this class because it is very informative.
all you do in class is either watch videos (which are worth points) or listen to his lectures (which consist of him reading off the powerpoint) Boring class, with professor who seems just to be reading off. Really self absorbed & cocky. Will emphasize stories a lot and ridiculously strict on phones & attendance. Just two tests and lots of extracr.
Mr. Cromatie's class is one of the easiest classes. He offers a lot of extra credit & only has 2 or 3 papers due the whole semester. Your only tests are the Midterm & Final. He's funny & likes to talk a lot about himself. He repeats a lot of stories but they do relate to the class so listen because it can help remember things for the tests!
Awesome professor. Knows what he's teaching. Tells book is required but just studying from the slides will get you an A. Would recommend this professor.
He's an excellent teacher, very easy class with a lot of extra credit opportunities.
I thought he was okay. He is strict on the cell phones. He likes for everyone to participate. You can get the book or not get the book but if u want A get the book. For the online u had to write 2 videos reaction papers and a test every week. If u do the work and go to class you will pass. He aite
The class was easy as long as you read and do the work. Professor Cromartie is a good professor but he needs to take some time to explain the concepts rather than getting engrossed in stories. I did the 6 weeks class. It was well organized and executed and got extended to 8 weeks because he was working on a book. Exams are multiple choice questions
he loves his stories. he knows everyone. must follow paper his gives. if your late you wont get credit for that day, no class participation. so be there before roll call. NO CELL PHONES AT ALL . HE WATCHES EVERYTHING YOU DO BELIEVE ME.
Great Professor! Wants to help students! Class contains: 2 Major Papers; 2 Exams (Midterm & Final) with Study Guides already posted before the course even begins! Exams are basically the ppt slides, no need for text. Offers some extra credit opportunities. He is very clear with his grading criteria, make sure format, punctuation, etc is on point!
Dr. Cromartie is a very good professor. Participation really matters in his class; he will make you read slides on every class. He posts his slides and study guide on D2L and once you have that, you do not really need the book. He gives a lot of extra credit so there really is no excuse to fail his class. He is very strict on cell phones!
He does not like cell phones or sleeping in class. Big, big , no, no. Everyone gets a chance to read for extra credit and there are multiple extra credit opportunities and activities. He is very informative, very intelligent, accessible and approachable. He only had four assignments for the entire semester and two of them was the mid-term and final
I Love my black professors! espcially Professor Cromartie!! He's my inspiration for choosing to minor in sociology once I transfer to a private college or UC. If you have any doubt in your mind about this professor, listen to me and choose his class. It's very critical but worth it all in the end.
The class is easy you just have to read the slides and remember them carefully for the midterm and final. Dr Cromartie can be funny sometimes, but he is very strict; if you miss class constantly he will drop you. NO phones on sight!
Great professor! Easy A most deff! Extra credit given! go to all his extra credit seminar! read in class for points! speak out on your opinions (he likes that). debate if you like. super funny and inspirational. STRICT with cellphones. (turn them off) RESPECTED
Professor Cromartie is hands down one of my favorite professors at CCC. I was privileged to take him for both Socio 220 and Socio 221. He possesses a wealth of knowledge and he is full of wisdom. As long as you attend class on a consistent basis and follow the powerpoints, you will be successful. CCC is lucky to have him. He is a definite GEM
Dr. Cromartie is very fun yet knows when to be serious when giving lectures. The way he teaches in Socio 220 can relate to his or others personal life experiences to better understand the topic. It is important to ask questions when necessary and studying the study guides. Overall, he's a great teacher. Definitely recommend
Most caring and understanding professor at CCC I've had so far. Tells very interesting stories and makes you work for your grade. I got an A in his class thanks to the extra credit opportunities. Also, he takes off points for using contractions and he loves students who have their textbook on the first day.
not specific in details of work
This class was super easy, although I didn't understand how some other students couldn't follow his dumb easy instructions. Read the book, watch the videos, write a reaction paper and take an exam during each class meeting (6 weeks course). He offers extra credit and likes it when people talk. No CELL PHONES, don't underestimate that rule!
Be prepared to do a lot of reading.
Dr. Cromartie is the best professor in sociology. His class was super easy to get an A if you do all his extra credit and follow what he says. He is strict on cell phones so turn them off when you go into class. He also has extra credit opportunities to go to films, sign his book, five point questions, and reading in his class.
One of my favorite professors at CCC! He is very organized and makes the class very easy to pass. At the beginning of the semester he gives you access to the midterm and final study guide, which are practically based on vocabulary found in numerous slideshows he provides you with. No homework, only 2 papers, and textbook reading! I learned so much
You will learn a lot trust me. Very organized class as well. He may come off as a little strict at first but don't be scared. He just wants people to take him seriously and respect him. He is actually very sweet and caring. Do not call him Mr. He likes to be called Dr.
Dr. Cromartie is a very good professor. He is also chair of the Sociology department and knows very well about what he is doing. He is nice and kind except you are not allowed to use or take out your cell phones in the class. Otherwise, he is best choice for SOCIO220.
I took Professor Cromartie's summer sociology class . His lectures are very long, but very detailed and he gives explanations of the chapters content and provides examples. He also gives study guides that are very helpful and help pass the class if your not a person who can just read the book and understands information.
Horrible instructor wasted 2 hours reading a syllabus. Didn't finish lecture slides. Do not take this guy. Bad class.
He was overall a really good teacher with a lot of entertaining stories! I got an A in his class with mediocre effort. He also offers a good amount of extra credit but he is reaaaally strict about phones in his class and taking tests. Otherwise he's great and I would take another class with him.
Please turn off your phones, and put them away before stepping into his classroom. Ask questions, and hell answer them. No sending papers via email he will not take them ONLY hard copies so I suggest having assignments printed out a day before so there is no deductions. He is a great instructor has great stories to share to fit them into terms.
Very understanding professor, he is strict in the beginning but softens up in a week or two. As other reviews; NO PHONES allowed. I would definitely retake this class(:
Barely used to textbook but used it when he wanted people to popcorn read. Would recommend borrowing the textbook from the library for FREE before the class instead of renting or buying for much more money.
He had people read off slides for participation points. We barely used a textbook, I would recommend using one from the library. I don't feel like I learned from actually being in class but just from what I studied on our study guides. I would take him again because it was an easy class to pass if you just follow his directions.
I took class with Prof. Dr. Cromartie. As a student, I respect him. I passed with grade A. I dont understand why other student gave him 1 or 2 star. Those students who are lazy, do not attend class regularly, or do not pay attention in their study, they are the only who pass with low grade. I would encourage other student to respect every professor
I enjoyed this course. Very informative, and the professor was very reasonable
I found his class easy to pass, as long as you show up. Also, he hates when you're on your phone, or if he even sees it out, so look out for that. Overall the material was not difficult, you just have to study for the exams, but he allows for many extra-credit opportunities. So even if you do poorly on the test, you can always make it up. :)
Dr. Cromartie is amazing and deserves everything he asks of you. He wont take your paper unless it looks like a college paper. He only has you do 2 papers and 2 exams your hw is reading the book an his pp. Participating in class gives u points, so does the extra credit he gives, over all I'm definitely taking him again if I can.
He takes his stuff seriously so get ready to work for your grade. He is an amazing professor nonetheless... Oh, and no phones
No phones at all! Always show up because you get points for reading everyday. Easy class, just follow the instructions exactly. He loves to talk to people and get feedback, so don't sit in the front if you don't want to be talked to. Also if you want to argue with him on a point, make sure you have your facts straight and something to back them up.
Professor Cromartie is a great professor! The class is only graded by very few things including 2 essays, 2 exams and participation. He is very vague about what he's looking for within the essays. The exams don't have anything to do with the book. He is very knowledgeable in his working since he is the chair of the sociology department!
I definitely enjoyed my time at this class. Dr. Cromartie's lectures doesn't put me to sleep and if you listen carefully, he might just slip on a final exam question on one of his lectures. I respect his rule on no phones because if he didn't have that rule, I probably wouldn't listen to his lectures and I would've failed the exam. 10/10 to him!
Dr. Cromartie is an intense professor. He expects a lot from his students and he won't take any disrespect. Under all that toughness though he cares for his students. He is very peculiar about how he wants his assignments written and formatted, and won't hesitate to send you back to the printer if there is even ONE mistake. Not for slackers.
One of the best professors I have taken. It was an honor to be taught under Dr. Cromartie. Be prepared to read and have discussion. You will leave the class with so much great information.
Dr. Cromartie is a great professor, and I personally did not find his class too hard. The midterm and final are largely based off the power points which are always posted online. I personally only touched the book when we had to pull it out in class. If do do an extra credit assignment, it would be difficult to fail. Answer when you're called on.
Honestly this class was amazing! Professor Cromartie is very well respected and he knows his stuff. Didn't use the textbook except for a few times in class, midterm/final are based off powerpoints and he doesn't grade too harshly. Just make sure you go to class, participate and watch the films he shows. Definitely would recommend.
Good man, good lectures, but a tough grader. He is funny and gives good but long lectures, so this class is very lecture/term heavy. In end, a solid choice.
The lectures were very interesting. Very strict on no phones in class which is understandable, but a horrible attitude towards students. Needs to learn how to be more compassionate, you can't take people's phones away for them simply forgetting they had it in a visible location, especially if they were in a hurry. Extremely childish behavior.
Dr. Cromatie warns you from the beginning that if you don't read, you won't pass. His exams are quite hard if you do not read the powerpoints he provides. He also provides you with study guides that you need to fill in which made the class easy to pass.
Dr. Cromartie will assist you and give you the feedback you need to pass. The course is not hard, but there is a lot of reading and writing (keep up or you will have difficulty). It is a very interesting class, not boring at all. To maximize your points on your papers, have Dr. Cromartie go over your papers with you.
As this professor seems better in person, having him in an online class setting is super challenging. Long lectures, lots of material and reading. Not very clear in what he wants, so if you're someone who wants organization and a guideline, don't take this class. I wished I switched classes sooner!
Worst class ever!!! His expectations are super unclear, he literally pays attention to every single detail in your papers one wrong comma and you get an automatic 0. Also he didnt grade ANYTHING until the end of the semester. Hes very unprofessional and SUPER SUPER hard to get a hold of. The exams have nothing to do with his online lectures!AVOID
My experience in Dr. Cromarties class was great, he helped me with all the assignments throught the semester and he is very caring! Do all assignments and stay on top of everything and you can easily pass his class!
Easy class. There is one online exam and a written paper due every week. Complete these and you are all set.
NEVER helps out with how to format papers. Would just take points off without telling me what I did wrong. For an extra credit assignment, we had to write out the answer to 30 questions, and I received ZERO credit because I didn't "write out the question" which he did not say to do. He is not clear on directions at all.
I was apprehensive about taking this course given the previous ratings. I spoke to Dr. Cromartie prior to class starting and he told me I could pass his course. I took this class in the summer. It consisted of 6 quizzes, 10 short essays on short films, 6 module questions, and extra credit. He was responsive when I emailed him. No issues whatsoever.
My experience with Dr. Cromartie was awful. The majority of the coursework is writing reaction papers to 1 hr-1 1/2 hr videos. But be careful, because if your grammar, formatting, or content isn't exactly the way he wants it, you'll get half (or more) of your points deducted. When I spoke to him, he was very harsh and rude. I do not recommend him.
Look for another college or program that offer this course. Avoid this professor! he is arrogant and refuses to see the wrong in his method of teaching. It too weeks to get him to notice a concern I had and when he discussed it he was hostile. Do not recommend taking HIS course
This professor is horrible. He just makes you read and watch videos or listen to lectures. You write papers, but he doesn't correct them for a while. He tells you nothing about your ideas. He takes a lot of points off for grammar and format, but he doesn't help you understand what he wants. He talks a lot and sounds rude.
Used his own textbook, which was SO DRY and full of errors. Painful to read. Even exams had errors that made some questions difficult to answer. Grading system is imbalanced- the amount of points is not proportional to the effort/time needed to complete the assignment. Harsh grader- my page was numbered at the bottom, not the top, and I lost 40 %.
Under no circumstances should you ever take this professor. He is absolutely impossible. His grading is insane, and the points for assignments don't reflect the amount of effort you have to put in. 5 points for a film reaction paper that takes at least 3 hours to complete. If you make the slightest mistake, you get deducted major points. Avoid him!
His class is quite difficult. You have to watch some hour-long YouTube videos, write reaction papers, and take quizzes from his textbook from 3-4 chapters. He's quite particular about the format, so make sure to follow his rubric and format, and you'll get good grades. Offers extra cr. just being present and we ask questions at the end if we like.
Dr. Cromartie's class is a mixed bag - the workload is heavy, but Unstuck AI and other study tools can make it manageable. Attend lectures, follow the rubric closely, and you'll do well.
Tons of papers, long videos, and super strict grading—felt more like an English class. Professor was rude at times and marked me absent for extra credit even though I attended (had to prove it with a screenshot). Be ready to write a lot and follow every rule exactly.
Horrible class. If you like learning, AVOID this class. Any contractions in writing assignments (even ones that do not exist) lead to a 40% penalty on an assignment. The textbook (written by prof. Cromartie) is boring, full of errors, and unsuitable for an Intro to Sociology class. If you take this class, I pity you.
I don't know Dr. Cromartie, but I believe he has so many credentials and has been in academic settings for far so long that he is not grounded in reality or compassion. Dr. Cromartie does not care for the content of your papers, and he gladly tank your grade for minor mistakes. I deeply recommend for you to take your class with another professor.
