I was very nervous for this class and when Dr. Harrison walked in the room it made it worst. Later on down the road I had a lot of stuff go on, Dr. Harrison did help me out, but I will say this do your work try your hardest and you should be able to come out of the class with a C at least!

Dr Harrison loves what he does and is good at what he does. All homework is online with the exception of your Speech (if you take the regular class), We had to give 3 speeches in the class, 1 group project and 2 individual speeches. Final exam was online and timed. Just glad I passed and don't have to do it again.. lol

He is a great teacher, but you must do your assignments and try your best. He can grade a bit tough. This class is well worth taking. He is usually very serious, and gets into some topics in the class that are relevant to today's news, etc. Speech is an essential part of many of our careers. So, please do take this class seriously.

This is not a class where your grade will be handed to you. You will have to work for it but it isn't that bad. He can be a tough grader but he is fair. In his class, we had three speeches to give, one of which was a group project. Along with that, we had an interview, midterm and final. He did offer extra credit twice. Just show up and work for it

After taking Dr. Harrison's class I really feel I improved as a public speaker. He is a very tough grader but it is clearly stated what he expects of you in each speech. I loved the fact that he helps prepare you to think about things that are outside of his speech class such as politics and other things. Overall I really enjoyed his class!

You will fail if you do not have the textbook. You only have three speeches and you get them done at the beginning of the semester and then it is just book work from there. He is very picky on how you present your speech.

He's a straight shooter and will hold you accountable. I like that. He tells you exactly what you need and expects you to be responsible. He treated me like an adult and respected me enough to be honest about things I needed to hear but maybe didn't want to.

Dr. Harrison has been a great professor. There was a lot of information, but it made assignments clear, as long as I read what he posted. I spent about two hours a week dedicated to the class, which is about average for all my classes. I really liked that he made me think outside the box.

I enjoyed taking Dr. Harrison's class. He is not an easy A, but he does challenge you and makes you work, which I appreciate. I am paying for this class, so I am glad I am getting something out of it, unlike some other classes I took that required no work for an easy A. The extra credit he offers is helpful as well.

Dr. Harrison may look tough and rude on the outside, but he really does care about his students! Besides a small slip up on one assignment, I have really enjoyed taking his class as well as receiving both good and bad feedbacks as to how I can improve myself as a student, and as a person. Communication is important in the workforce and in life!

After reading the reviews here and reading his syllabus and expectations, I was concerned. As I was working on the group project, I understood why he was particular. Writing skills are necessary in the real world and are obviously not taught in high school. Dr Harrison is a tough grader but I appreciate the feedback.

Dr. Harrison's speech class was great. I feel I became a much better public speaker. He focused in on the things I needed to fix, and through his constructive criticism, I can see where I improved from the first to the last speech. I would definitely recommend him if you want to get better at public speaking. He is a straight shooter, which I like.

Mr. Harrison was such a great teacher. I am definitely not a speech type of person and it made me so nervous to do this all online. But, he has given me great feedback for my future communication skills. I appreciate him being very understanding and letting me redo an assignment that I didnt do the best on. I really encourage to take this class!!

Dr. Harrison gave us a lot of extra chances to earn points back which I really appreciate. He seems tough and mean but he cares and wants the best for us. I enjoyed the class and I am glad I took it.

I'm not going to sugarcoat it and say that I enjoyed the class. It was very challenging at times, but I think being all online may have not helped that situation. The professor taught everything thoroughly, there was just a ton of work that had to be done.

Personally, I enjoyed taken public speaking. Professor Harrison was a tough teacher, but very helpful when you asked questions. He gave great instructions and examples for the upcoming assignments as well. I would definitely recommend Professor Harrison to incoming students who are deciding whether to take this course or not!

It wasnt too difficult for me, the speeches will be pretty tough and stressful, but since I took it online I could try it a bunch of times. Overall the work wasnt too bad for me but if this class is in-person it could be a whole different ballgame

Dr. Harrison is straightforward and leaves little room for confusion. I found it surprising but I really enjoyed this class. As always we have to put in the effort from the beginning to make sure we don't mess ourselves up in the end. Dr. Harrison provided me with many opportunities and I highly respect him and this class.

Chapter tests and reading materials on McGraw Hill was easy to accomplish and follow along to. Assignment instructions for speeches and group project were straight forward and they were easy to complete and pass. Would definitely take his class again and would 10/10 recommend.

Mr. Vernon is great at giving clear instructions, he did say that there was no late work allowed so after a missed deadline I didnt reach out only to find out that if I had reached out to turn in the late work it would have been accepted? A bit confusing! Although, he did let me re-do an assignment so I was grateful! 5pm is a bizarre deadline

Dr. Harrison was very helpful with his lectures and providing helpful material. When it comes to the speeches, he grades them very strictly and helps to make speeches the best they can be. He also provides great feedback on speeches. It was challenging but luckily challenges make us the students grow.

Professor Harrison is a good teacher, but he definitely makes you work for your grade. My speeches continued to get better throughout the semester because of his feedback. One negative is that he comes off as very strict and rude, but begins to grow on you throughout the semester.

Hes not one of those teachers that just gives homework just to give homework. He gives us assignments that will actually help us in the future and stuff that we can use in our future careers. Hes probably one of the most helpful professors Ive had in a while.

I liked him because he's very thorough and detailed in his instructions and directions. He's very clear on what he expects, and he always responds to emails pretty quick.

Getting A an in this class is definitely not easy. Dr. Harrison makes you work for your grade but gives you good feedback to improve future assignments. I also imagine that speech is one of the harder courses to teach virtually so I think he did pretty well with that.

Due to Covid, I was forced to take Prof. Harrison's speech class online which seemed backwards without a physical audience. However, he said from the beginning that this wasn't a course that you can turn just any speech in. He challenged us to turn in our best work, but even then we will be critiqued. This forced me to become a better speaker.

Although this class was challenging to do online, Dr. Harrison was able to give advice through the lectures he posted and I found the textbook was helpful with this too. His feedback on each speech is very helpful for the next. This is definitely a class you have to prepare for and organize before each speech in order to get a good grade.

This teacher comes across as harsh and demanding at first but I think he has to put up with a lot of students who want to blow off his course. Using his own words, he's demanding because he wants his students to succeed in life. I learned helpful skills in this class. Really try and you'll do fine.

Dr. Harrison gives clear direction in all of his assignments. He goes the extra mile to ensure his students understand the "logic" behind each subject topic.

A good grade is earned in this class, but deserved if you listen to feedback and follow directions. You will become a better public speaker by taking this class.

Dr. Harrison was very straight and to the point which I greatly aprreciated considering every waking moment of our existence brings us that much closer to death.

Very informative class, I highly recommend. The speeches are challenging, but nothing too difficult.

This class really put me out of my comfort zone, in a good way. I had to actively try for a good grade which was ultimately worth it overall. This class I believe helped increase my skills at public speaking going forward in the future.

This was the hardest, yet one of the best courses I have taken so far at Jeff State. The class was very challenging, but in a good way. Trying to learn online can be stressful. Dr. Vernon's videos are very helpful when preparing for the speeches. I have learned a lot of helpful tools in this class that I can use in my future classes and in life.

I think he is more oriented towards in-class than online but he is good at teaching students to be responsible and is very open to discussing or helping students in need. He means what he says during his syllabus about instructions and he is good at sending emails to us about upcoming events or homework.

From day one, it was clear you'll have to work to get a good grade. Though he can be strict and tough at times, he really does want his students to succeed. He can be a bit vague at times, but he's there if you have any questions. His grading can be tough, but informative in the end. Just prepare to put in many hours of work for a good grade.

class seems difficult at first, but it is not. i emailed him multiple times he always responded fast and answered what I was asking.

I see everyone say he's hard and he doesn't care but in all he does you just have to Pay attention and do the work how he wants you to ! If you fail his class it's because you slacked off!

The class had a lot of homework in the textbook. However, our prof Harrison was easy to reach and was always thorough with answering questions and feedback. He graded fairly difficult but always gave an explanation to his grading. I didn't interact with him a ton, with the course being taught online, but he was always helpful when I reached out.

Although it is an intro class, he grades it like you already know how to speak publicly, which increases the difficulty but it really helps you learn how to do it better.

Dr. Harrison initially comes across as intimidating with his grading criteria; however, his honest feedback, albeit challenging, promoted a lot of growth & experience for me. I am proud of my accomplishments in his class. I have progressed in my level of comfortability formatting & delivering a speech when it was the class I dreaded most.

Professor Harrison, though my communication was strictly through email. Seems like a very respectable and fair person. The assignments were straight forward with plenty of time to do them. You have most of laid out and if you have any questions the professor is very quick to respond!

Starts out the semester with a few speeches progressively getting harder until about half way in, then 1 or 2 rather easy projects. There's also a string of homework throughout the semester (mainly at the beginning) with the textbook that's long very monotonous, but nothing too hard.

He was fair, if just a little strict. He gave good feedback though, and you always knew what you did wrong so you could fix it on the next assignment.

Dr. Harrison is a tough grader, but really cares about his students, so if you are having trouble with the grading criteria, email him and ask for tips on what to do better. I made a slip up on one of my speeches, got him to give me feedback, took that and made a 100 on my next speech. Overall a very easy class, just have to put in the work for it.

We had 4 speeches and a final exam. Speeches weren't as bad as i thought they were going to be. He allowed note cards which helped a lot and he is not as tough of a grader as i thought he was going to be.

Dr. Harrison clearly establishes guidelines for how to be successful in his class. Definitely a no nonsense vibe about speeches, but you can definitely tell hes direct because hes heard every excuse in the book over the years. Absolutely aided in improving my speech writing and presentation skills!

Over all Dr. Harrison is avery good professor. He is a hard grader, but if you reach out for help, he gives great feedback and advice to help you succeed.

I really enjoyed taking Dr. Harrisons course. He truly wants his students to succeed but that also means owning up to your responsibilities and getting your work done! Do what he expects and you should have no issues. Good luck!

Dr. Harrison doesn't hold back any punches and sometimes that rubs people the wrong way, but I know he's doing it to prepare us for the real world. He pushed me to think and to take chances so he's one of the best for that.
