Professor very helpful and friendly. Study guides and Exams were wonderful. We were able to convince her to teach Bio II (normally she teaches I). I received a B and an A (HATE SCIENCE, but she made class fun).
This professor was consistently late to class, did not help students during lab (most of the time she talked on the phone or checked email), and often tested our class over material that she did not teach in class. It is too bad because when she did lecture it was actually above-average.
This instructor is not a very good teacher; she is more concerned (it seems) with retrieving a paycheck as opposed to transmitting knowledge to students.
good and helpful teacher. tests are take home except final and lab exams. don't be fulled by the take home tests, her lab exams are difficult while the final is memorization. you should at least make a B in her class.
If you are looking for an easy A, take her. And you'll still manage to learn something. She helps you in your lab if you ask. She gives take home test, which is great. Its no way to fail her class. Her lectures are broken down into everyday language. She uses great examples to explain concepts.
Yes, Not one day did she get their on time. Take home test are true but you practically got to kiss butt to get it or talk to her husband. If you can handle her accent and plan to be dissapointed every class b/c of her ways of teaching. Take her
Dr. Amaku is an excellent professor. She takes the time to explain issues that students may not understand. When it comes to lab she makes the learning process fun. Her exams are fair & she uses her powerpoint lectures & text for the 4 exams given throughout the semester. I would hightly recommend this professor for this course.
good teacher,if you want an easy A,just showup for class.I f you want to learn have to read the book on your own.
Excellent, very knowledge, former assistant of a legend Dr Phillip E. Swartz. She is one of the best Biology professors in HCCS. She is easy, but you need to willing to put a lot of effort to get a good grade. Take all BIOL 2401, 2402, and 2420 from her, and get all A. Highly recommended.
Dr. Amaku is a very nice professor and explains everything to you. She is very helpful and looking forward to have her again in the summmer. Attendance is mandatory, but she is pretty laid back person. Adore her:)
She is very knowledgeable about her facts. She is GOOD!!!
Excellent
Dr. Amaku is great! She make learning biology fun with the labs. The summer session was a lot of work since it was only five weeks long. Come to class and follow her notes and you should get an A!
I ALSO TOOK MICRO BIO WITH AMAKU. SHE IS A VERY NICE TEACHER AND EASY. IT'S EASIER IF YOU WORK IN A STUDY GROUP IN CLASS SO BE FRIENDLY WITH CLASSMATES.
SHE WAS TOUGH BUT STRAIGHT TO THE POINT
Ms. Amaku is very nice and so much fun. I enjoyed her class. Im planning to take her again in fall. Very easy.
Dr. Amaku was a cool professor, but sorta to laid back. Kinda Lazy...will just read from the powerpoints from the textbook site. But overall ok. I made a B....barely because of the xtra credit. She wasnt organized at all. Good luck.
SUPER EASY!!! All the tests are online, which means you can Google;) Lab exam is in class,i studied for 1 hr before the exam and made a 73%. Got an EASY A!:) Gives tons of extra credit....
u can make an A in micro by taking her!do all quizzes online, completion grade for labmanual,4tests(google it),final:same as the review, dontmiss assignments,it all helps to get a 90 because labexam is hardest of all.ask her to open up any assignments that u missed.discussions are completion grade.do the reviews before exams.be wise and use Google.
very easy, teacher is super nice. hybrid class with homework and test online. lab was very easy also. final was in class but average not hard at all. read powerpoints and chapter you will do fine. i got an A. also gives extra credit for every test. class is straight forward. i highly recommend this teacher.
you can easily get an A in her class. She lets you know exactly what you need to know for lab exam. All her tests are online except the final. You have to study for that one since its departmental her review was only 25% helpful.
Dr. Amaku was Great! Always straight forward. 75% of exam came from review and 25% from the reading material (powerpoint). Just do the work and you will come out wonderfully.
Wonderful professor. Amaku gives bonus points for in-class participation. Be there. Also, get the text book and READ IT! The course is hard but Amaku makes it interesting.
Kind of unorganized when it comes to labs. If you do your Pearson homework and test reviews you will pass. Go to class, you get points for it. Lectures are boring and have nothing to do with exams. Professor can be very moody and never responds to emails. However she's also very fun and cool to talk to after class, I will miss her!
The class for micro has really change no test online all in class with scan tron, reviews are nothing like the test are very hard. Don't take her class if you want your GPA to go down!
Does not give test reviews, expects you to read 4 chapters at a time and know everything for the lecture exams! Do not take. All tests in person on scan tron. HARD HARD HARD . Not sure whether to stick it out or drop & retake with more realistic professor. This is for the hybrid class.
Will not give test reviews because we are a hybrid class. Tests are extremely hard because you don't know what will be on the test and there is so much information to read and learn. There is no way to prepare for lecture exams, all in person on scan tron. Will hurt your GPA. Stay away. Does not answer emails. Accuses you of cheating if you do pass
GPA killer. Do NOT take! Does not give reviews for any of the tests, you have to learn everything on your own. All tests are in person with scantron. Stay away!! I should have listed to reviews below.
Take this class if you really want to learn Microbiology. Tests are challenging, but if you study enough, you should be able to do well in this class. Professor Amaku is great and has a sense of humor.
DO NOT DO THIS TO YOURSELF! NO, lectures or info for testing. Will not inspire you to take" anything else from her. You "Are taking from her time, energy, she sits at computer and will answer questions "if she has too!" Class confusion lab, got the "gist" of labs. DON'T TAKE HER! Biological warfare on your GPA! A KILLER, HCC BIOLOGY TERMINATOR! R
She expected us as students to be familiar with researchdevelopment of all phases of biological studies. Told us to Google or get info from other student due to class was hybrid. She wasn't helpful and kax or return ensils. Take her and she will kill you GPA abd make you redo all over again. Had to 'C" my way through. Not a good source to learn
She is not there for you to assist with your online assignments. Told our class to Google to get info for tests, we wanted hybrid class and she does not gives reviews or lectures. Worse instructor I have taken! No do not take her! You need to find another. My GPA went from 3.83 to 3.7:( Online is instructor for course. Tests not related to labs. MM
HORRIBLE!!! I didn't even sign up for Micro w/her, I signed up w/another professor & they switched professors 1 wk before class started. She is definitely not helpful & shouldn't be teaching if she has a goal to fail students. All good reviews on Rate My Professor were probably done my her 5 kids, not students. I hate HCC!
In the beginning it seemed hard however if you study do all assignments given you will pass homework assignments were online and the presentations we had to do were easy. She will help you if you help yourself i made a B lecture exams were breeze if you studied
She is a good instructor, and very funny. She will want you come to her lecture if you cannot understand in your hybrid class. I took her class, she is very good to her students. Everyone loves her class.I encourage you to take her if you want to make an easy A.
Professor Amaku is a wonderful lecturer. Very lively and good at explaining tough concepts. Don't let her name fool you, she speaks clear and fluent English (unlike some of her colleagues). 5 exams and a final (one dropped), 20 homeworks due at end of class, 1 "group" project, and a lot of extra credit opportunities. Very informative, and not hard.
Dr. Amaku is honestly one of the best instructors that I have ever taken. Her scientific acumen is out of this world. She is so mart! I love how she would connect concepts from chem into our micro course. She never made you feel unintelligent if you did not know a concept. She would always take her time to break it down. She's quite funny too!
I took her online for Microbiology, worst professor I've ever had, she grades assignments and even if you have everything you're supposed to, she still gives you a low grade without an explanation when asked. She has exams on campus but FAILS to tell students how to get into the building since it was closed on weekend. Waste of time, I dropped her.
I took this class in the summer 5 weeks, it was a lot of reading and homework. Which is expected in a mini semester. She always answered emails back in a timely manner. Be prepared for lots of reading and studying.
as a person she is great but as a professor i feel like she needs to be more in tune with her students. she gave us a list of what to study unfortunately for the class it was the wrong things. i mean its stressful almost all the students are either stressed or at a point where they just gave up. i am passing so far with a C i hope to bump it up.
Professor Amaku is an ok teacher, she doesn't explain things very well when students ask questions. Goes very fast, often skips chapters and leaves you to learn them yourself. Majority of tests are online through lockdown browser, if you miss less than 5 classes extra credit is given at the end of the year.
Pretty much just show up and do the labs and you'll be just fine. Only 2 tests throughout the semester.
She's nice but not a very good teacher. She's very smart but bad at pacing her lectures. She spent too much time on first half of lecture & rushed through the second half, making us self-study entire chapters. Tests were not like lectures but questions are from a test bank. HW can be tricky esp. since you have to do extra HW if you get below 95%.
She is very nice but isn't the best at teaching. Her exams did not match to what she was teaching. I feel I did not learn much because a lot of it was self teaching and reading. She expects for you to use other sources to help you understand the material. I would not take her again.
In the beginning it seemed hard however if you study do all assignments given you will pass . Theres a lot of quizzes and about 5 lecture exams
This lecturer is Amazing. I like even though I use to ask too many questions in her class but I bet you she is a good lecturer. You need to be ready to read to pass this class, but she made materials available for you to read and pass. She is not struck about attendance and she doesnt waste time in class. She goes straight to the point with the le
Her exams never matched the homework. Dont take her for hybrid way too much material to learn on your own. Extra credit opportunities are given.
Do not take her for hybrid class unless you're comfortable with learning most subjects on your own. A lot of materials to learn and a lot of homework, but she does provide enough materials to learn/review and extra opportunities are given. Make sure to study enough for her exams!
Took her 5 wk mini for A&P lab. She didnt lecture, she tells you when HW is due and you just work on that and study during class. She reviews before test. No surprises everything on the test is on the lab manual. She is very caring!!! She will make sure you pass. drops lower exam grade. TAKE HER! learn all the models she shows you and you will pass
professor is a caring person, she always try to make sure you understand thoroughly her lecture. She reply email fast and give good feedback. The only problem is exam required L.D.B; however, the exam questions relates to what in lecture, study study study. She would be the best if you want to learn something.
Very simple class to take and clear schedule on labs and when they are due. As long as you stay on top of the labs Easy A. Very sweet Professor no textbook needed, provided in McGraw-Hill Connect.
I took professor's Amaku Lecture and Lab class for 10 weeks in the Summer. Microbiology is not an easy subject, but she provided a lot of great material, and she is very responsive and helpful. Her LAB was extremely fun, we had a simulator like you're really in the class. Each exam has 2 attempts.
Very sweet professor however NOTHING she teaches are on tests. She is not very helpful or responsive. If you actually want to learn something do not take your class. I studied material for HOURS just for it not to be on the tests. Take someone else !
Dr. Amaku gives plenty of assignments right out of the gate. She lectures but she asks quite a few questions during the lecture to ensure you are paying attention(online). However the assignments are plentiful but are pretty direct and simple.
I took Dr. Amaku for micro lab & lecture online. It was the biggest mistake I couldve made. Worst professor Ive had through my college career. She is unprofessional, can be sweet at times but also very rude. Nothing she teaches is on the exams, did not specify what would even be on there. She is also very unorganized & I DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Dr. Amaku is very knowlegeable. She is eager to see that her students understand the material. Her tests are not too easy even though she gives two attempts. She gives exra credit opportunities and grades in a curve.
I didnt attend many lectures, but completed my labs on time & gave a half assed effort overall & ended up with a B. Recommended to those who want to coast through with little effort.
Took it in Summer2021 and her exams were brutal. They make you apply what you learn and with Lockdown browser. However you have 2 trys, 60mins, 40 questions. Her powerpoints don't go to in depth and she doesn't explain the same things she talks about in class. She's really nice and wants to make sure your succeeding but the work is allot.
Dr. Amaku sure knows her stuff! I took her class in the summer. She makes learning biology digestible and interactive. Despite the time crunch, I managed to do so well and retain a lot of information. Pay attention to her lectures and you'll do fine!
She takes on too many classes, and it's apparent that her online college is falling behind. DO NOT DO IT. She teaches or manages a very disorganized course. Very unclear on grading criteria, rarely updates her syllabus, the course was a mess 2021.
I took her a while back and warning avoid if you can. Responds to emails late. Very rude! I had to drop her class and find someone else and passed that class with a A. This your warning.
This was an online class. There was barely information given in the "lecture power points" then just YouTube videos posted. It was fine, but I don't feel like I learned much. Very average. (This teacher did not set up the online course correctly so my 94% showed as an F..also the grading criteria wasn't filled in and the syllabus got confusing)
Had Dr Amaku for the Biology Lab course. She assigns multiple labs a week that are very time consuming. Sometimes directions are not very clear. Each week you have a quiz (on top of the labs) over the material for that week, you will then also have a quiz over the material for the next week, so you basically have to be ready to read.
Great Teacher if your taking her online. very easy work load. at home labs that are fun, very easy grader, you cant fail this class if u do the work. if you need an easy A take her. also replies to emails fast
She was my best professor for fall 22. I took her for bio lab and I wish she taught lecture. I learned more in her lab than I did lecture, she's super thorough and gives plenty of resources to help understand the material. She can be a bit disorganized at times but she's still human.
She would give us 4-5 assignments daily & we had to beg her to adjust assignments because she gave us 7 & expected us to complete them fast. If online you have to buy stuff like food for experiments & she gives no reviews for tests and utilizes lockdown browser. She adds or forgets to upload assignments and she can be rude at times.
Absolutely take professor Amaku! she is fun and caring to her students as long as you complete her work. Her tests are challenging but doable. Not much homework besides the standard pre lab and post lab quiz.
Professor Amaku does give random group assignments, and what made it irritating was that it was work that one student could complete in less than an hour, but since it's a group you have to wait for your group members to respond and blah blah blah. She does not abide by her own syllabus and will not grant extensions for any missed assignments.
microbio lab with her is okay. the labs were easy but i found her exams were difficult and a lot of questions werent rlly based on the labs we did/not mentioned in class. the only other grades are from mcgraw hill postlabs/prelabs and lab participation. she can be kinda confusing with the labs. overall just study well for exams and go to the labs!
Professor Amaku was a great teacher! She made you work for the grade but she was also understanding. I took the microbiology lab with professor Amaku. There were 2 exams that were slightly challenging, but if you study and participate in class you will not fail. There was also an optional final that you could take to bump up your grade.
I took a summer class! Dr. Amaku is well respected & passionate about her lectures. This woman is so intelligent! Unfortunately we were under some weird circumstances because of Hurricane Baryl, but she helped us get to our desired grades. It's a challenge! Be prepared to STUDY/READ, DO NOT give up and see it through! You'll be happy that you did.
The most unorganized professor ever! She shouldn't teach an online course. All her assignment dates were wrong, and she never fixed them. SHE NEVER REPLIES TO MESSAGES! I had to send multiple follow-ups, and when she finally replied after my 3rd email, she claimed she was away from her computer. Some assignments are locked and due that weekend!
I just took her for a second start, and she's super caring and responds to emails quickly and lab; she seems intimidating at first, but she's super sweet and always helpful. She grades the pre-labs and labs, and there are 3 tests, one final exam and 2 tests for the first half of the labs, and then the second one for the final couple of labs.
prof amaku was good! great instructor and lectures were interesting. not a lot of busy work but a lot of studying, 5 exams online browser lockdown few assignments 1 discussion
DO NOT GET HER SHE IS THE WORSE SHE DOSEN'T TEACH AT ALL WE NEED TO LEARN BY OURSELVES! SHE EXPECT US TO KNOW ALL AND DOSEN'T BELIEVE IN TEST REVIEW. DON'T GET IT I REGREAT MYSELF!
if you can avoid her, do yourself a favor and please do!! I fell for the many 5 ratings, I'm pretty sure they're all fake. out of the whole semester, she probably taught twice and if she did, it was about 10 minutes the rest was just 'work' time. she doesn't believe in exam reviews and everything is self taught.
Lectures are very heavy and a lot of times rushed. The course is SO saturated, she had to squeeze in several chapters in one lecture. She does not provide reviews, so you're stuck going over tons of material for the exams. For lab exams there was material that was not reviewed during labs. Takes long to grade exams.
Prof Amaku was very understanding , there's 4 exams the fourth is optional, all her exas contain labeling and question but they are all from the Mcgrall hill labs reports. The last 2 exams are online. She did give us a word bank for the second one. she also drops your lowest grade. Shes low-key nice and funny. Not a rude person at all.
Pre-labs and lab reports are completion grades. Lab quizzes aren't. There are 3 Exams: 2 Exams that cover the Labs, and 1 optional final. The first exams were all 50 open-ended questions. The second exam was online, Multiple choice, and a few open-ended questions. If you love your mental health, I wouldn't recommend.
Very laid back, just make sure you're actually doing the work in/out of class. The lab had 3-4 partners, that you pick, and you would focus on 1 lab per class. There were pre-labs and a "lab reports" which is just a couple questions about the lab. If you're not at her home campus, some labs would not happen or take longer to set up.
Dr. Amaku is passionate and absolutely cares for her students, and encourages teamwork when needed. You must understand what you're learning and create a solid foundation of it. PPTs are provided before class. Download them and study the book with it, then enter class by comparing your notes to her lectures. You will fail if you don't study.
Great professor and great class. Very kind and always eager to answer questions or clear up any doubts. Gives a reasonable amount of time between exams to study well. The assignment load isn't overbearing as long as you prepare ahead of the due dates. Definitely recommend!
She's not the best teacher ever, she explains the steps of the lab and that's about it. For the test she dosent give reviews and expects you to already have knowledge from lecture. Does not grade on time and confuses on grading, also always picking up phone calls during class. Wouldn't recommend if you've already taken the lecture.
The experiments in her lab were fun and you get to work in groups. The only downside of this class is that Professor Amaku can be unclear with her instructions in the lab, the announcements, and there's no reviews with her lab exams. The class is still doable and it's chill especially if you're on your last semester of prereqs
She's nice, but the lab reviews weren't very helpful for me. I honestly got an A mainly because she gives a lot of extra points, especially if mean is low and EGL survey. 3 Exams=60% are different (stations, online with webcam, and paper multiple choice), and she drops the lowest exam, which is the best part. The third exam is basically optional.
