This teacher is nice. However, she is not well organized and gives A LOT of work! She's unsure of MANY things which makes things frustrating for us students. On the bright side, she TRYS to make little funny remarks to make us laugh. And sometimes she's successful!

She is horrible! Her class is ok if you do the work it is just painful to site there and listen to her. She has the worst attitude, and has no idea what she is talking about. I got an A in the class but it was not worth the torture of dealing with her

Professor Getskow Is one of the best college professors I have ever taken. Who ever said that this teacher is EVIL is absolutely trippin.Take is professor if you are a child development major because she is awesome and you will get so much from her course. She has a reat personality and truly wants students to succeed.
Professor Getskow is an informative, organized, fair and caring teacher. I highly recommend her for CADV 250. She teaches this subject in an organized manner and I did get a lot out of it. She assigns a lot of papers, but nothing that is impossible. She grades very fair and she really cares!!! Definitely take her!!!
The bad thing about her is she's irresponsible. She takes forever to grade papers and sometimes loses them. Her grading is inconsistant and sometimes unfair. She's confusing when she talks. The good thing about her is that she's funny and has a heart of gold. She's also very honest and values everyone's questions and opinions.
Her grading style is VERY unclear and unfair. If you take her class, be prepared to have no grammar mistakes otherwise she's going to take points off. Do not use "citationmachine.net" that she's gonna introduce you during the semester, since I used it but still she took 20 points off from my paper. I'll never take her class again unless I get paid.
WORST TEACHER EVER! She has NO idea what she is doing or what she wants done. She changed the syllabus on us 4 times and still expected us to know when things were due. HORRIBLE! If you can take this class from someone else then I would highly recommened it. If you like structure DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
One of the EASIEST classes I have taken, but not worth going through. She is very unorganized and was very frustrating to keep up with, changing the syllabus frequently. Her grading is inconsistent & I felt like I was back in 1st grade(i.e., she gave us a paper telling us how to do a poster board, writing: "paper, scissors, glue" etc.
She is really bad! She's sooo unorganized, very, very unclear and gives out really stupid assignments. She was extremely frustrating to take and changes her requirements on her papers! She is nice, however her niceness isn't enough to put up with her crazy class! If you wanna be frustrated, take her.
She is very very UNOGANIZED person. She doesn't know what she wants. She changes her mind about things frequently. The class is very easy but she made it very hard and very boring for us. And everyone in the class was confused throughout the whole semester. She is alright, but the class is easy
This is by far the worst teacher I have encountered in my life. I feel like I lost brain cells while in her class, and it was a total waste of time. She is an unfair grader, she constantly changes the syllabus and paper requirements, and she doesn't care about her students' success! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
she is unorganized and does change the syllabus on you, but if you go to the class you'll be fine.. as a teacher, ya, she isnt that clear.. but she is really nice and understanding.. make friends with the people around you and you'll definitely pass the class.. she gives in to class choices.. just speak!
I got stuck with this one because I took my chances with STAFF in the schedule of classes. She is a bad teacher. Very difficult to get an "A". She does change the syllabus and is unclear, then freaks out when you ask questions about it. I heard Munsch is better.AVOID!
2 quizes + couple of papers + group presentation. You will get extra points for perfect attendence. She is a really nice lady.

Changes syllabus almost every day. Unclear about assignments. Gets annoyed with you if you ask questions & doesn’t answer them. Unorganized. Picks favorites. Discusses personal life. Publicly criticizes certain students. Unfair grading. Hostile class discussions. Don't take her. If you have to, don't buy the text book. Waste of money.
This woman is unbelievable. She changed the syllabus constantly but never wrote it down for herself, she couldn't stay on task or follow the agenda she had written on the board, played favorites, graded unfairly, and flipped out whenever you'd ask a question. Run far, far away in the opposite direction.
She is really nice! I asked a lot of questions, as did everyone else, she was always helpful. She even offered to come in on her own time and tutor people on power point if they didn't already know how to use it. Not all teachers would do that!! She does have a lot of rules but they aren't hard to follow.
Fairly unorganized. Doesn’t really answer questions. She is nice and always offering help, sometimes she just doesn’t help in the right way.
Class material was very interesting. She is a little on the wacky side and she's a bit unorganized. Exams are fairly easy just read the chapters and use the study guides. Assignments are fairly easy.

Very Nice, organized, but does not explain the assignments clearly. And when you ask her to explaing it again, WOW!!! You do learn a lot in her class, but you need to be there and turn it your assignments. She does not like LAZY people. If you are LAZY, do NOT take her class!!! If you want to learn, take her class!!
Hardest child development class I have ever taken. So unorganized, does not answer questions, and is so unclear about every assignment. There was a fairly big assignment due every class period. Crazy paper at the end of semester, very stressful. Do not recommend her at all.
This is supposed to be a career class but it's everything else excluding that. Getskow is the most vague, annoying professor. Assignments are not difficult, but her expectations are very high. If you don't attend, don't expect to pass because she takes attendance daily. Make sure you have a clear writing style otherwise she will mark you down!

She is very organized and explains things over and over again. Her assignments are not that difficult but she grades harshly. She will mark down alot of points for small errors. Attend class because she takes attendance every day and warms up to those that attend. Textbook is barely used, so i wouldn't even suggest buying it
Honestly, she is really out there. She expects her students to already be professional when really she is suppose to be teaching us professionalism. It's not that she's mean she's just disorganized and doesn't go by the syllabus. The work isn't hard but if you don't like presentations don't take the class becasue she requires 2 of them.
Some people shouldn't be teachers and she is one of them. She knows what she is talking about but she is not good at teaching it. She needs to be more organized. There are a couple of quizzes, 2 or 3 papers, and 2 presentations.
I think the comments about her are false. She is really sweet, never changed the syllabus and I havent seen any signs of her being disorganized.She actually maps out hte semester, when assignments are due and a daily agenda at the beginig of class. Classes dont consist of boring note taking, just discussing & interacting.
Getskow explains her assignments thoroughly. I was a little apprehensive with the reviews she had, but she's great. She maps out everything! I reccomend her! She's a little picky when comes to research papers, but she just wants it done right(APA).

She is the worst child development professor ever. During whole semester, she only teaches how to do homewoks. If you want to learn something, please don't take her class. not worth it. Also she is not organized (although she thinks she is). Most of all she is very picky and annoying. SHe does not appreciate student's effort at all.

she is a bit unorganized, but i think thats due to the face she tries to squeese so much information into a semester. I learned alot about myself in this class, and what i really wanted to do with my life. You will have to go to every class, and follow each direction on the rubric to the T. Dont get too worried about huge assignments, start early.
Worst professor ever. If you like to learn something and not be put down every night then this is definitely not the professor for you. She is very rude to other Ethnicities, nothing is explained clearly, grades very hard, points you out as dumb if you ask a question, and is never available to help after or outside of class.
She makes this class seem like a 400 level class! A LOT OF WORK DUE! A lot! lot! this was the most stressful class I had this semester! some of the assignments she makes us do are useless. She is nice...at times. Mandatory to be in class. She is very anal with peoples writing skills. It sux that she is the only one that teaches this class.
Getskow is a horrible prof. and the class is useless. Such a waste bc you learn about resumes and random facts about cadv careers. Why waste your $ and time when this info is on the internet. She plays favorites & makes you feel like an idiot if you ask a question. The course is easy, just show up & do the work. NOT RECOMMENDED!

i guess she read all your bad reviews, cause so far she's not bad at all. boring class at times, but fairly easy so far. just go to class. she takes role most of the time. favorites? kind of. so make sure she knows who you are. speak out and visit her office and you're good. ohh and do the EASY assignments, of course.
I think that she really tried to make our class (through the course reader) easy to follow, but it wasn't. Her class IS NOT hard you, you just have to keep up with assignments. DON'T expect her to remind you. She gets mad if you've forgotten and blame her for it.. lol -- However, Dr. Wakefield is teaching CADV 250 -- HE IS THE BOMB, EASY AND FUNNY!
For those of you who think that this is going to be an easy A, you are mistaken but it can be earned. some of the comments I have read here are nonsense. this is a college level class and the material is college level material. you have to do the assignments, come to class, ask questions! That is how you earn an A in her class! Very nice & helpfull
Whoever wrote the comment on 5/22 is wrong. I have never been in a more hard working class because she had high expectations and everyone wanted to get an A. We were all college students wanting a decent college professor. NOT HER.
I gotta an A but, she's every student's WORST NIGHTMARE. She's UNORGANIZED-makes changes to the syllabus & class reqts over & over during the semester, CONDESCENDING-treats students like elementary school, DOESN'T TEACH A THING-her "reader" & class is useless, a bunch of xeroxed websites, career center handouts,etc. Complete waste of 3 units-AVOID!

ok so like shes not terrible but she is picky very picky on how to turn in work. shes gives a lot of work but is so easy. something to watch out for is you must have perfect grammar because when she grades papers shes more of a English teacher which is super annoying Caz shes a chdv teacher its like focus on the material lady!

Horrible class.Has nothing to do with child development, more for someone who wants to start their own business.Bad at giving directions, VERY unclear about what she wants. Ex.: directions for reflection paper was given the day after the paper was due.She has guest speakers and questionnaires every class, she didn't teach one class. Don't take!
Loved her class, had lots of projects, but enjoyed them and learning about careers in child development. I had no problem approaching her with questions, emailed her and she responded back immediately. Ended up taking her 150 class also, wish I could take her again.

Easy class, but Professor Getskow spends too much time on 'house keeping' each time rather than going into a detailed lecture. Spends too much time asking the class questions and interacting with the students than actually 'teaching,' in my opinion. However, the assignments are easy and she's very nice, but I feel it was a waste of time.
Also... spends too much time reviewing the syllabus each class when she could be spending more time of teaching and lecturing.
Doesn't respond very well to e-mails, spends too much time on what to expect each week, when it's in the syllabus. Could spend more time on the lectures instead of talking about examples and doing surveys. Very easy class though, but a waste of time.
The most boring teacher ALIVE! she does nothing but talk about herself and her awesome experience at UCLA. She also talks about her 7 million kids. There's really no point of going to class. Read the textbook and teach yourself because she's not going to teach you anything. I really do not recommend her.

She is too busy describing about how to be a good parent that she doesnt discuss the material that is actually on the tests. And she grades very hard on writing assignments. She doesnt use her own powerpoints...so she spends alot of the time clicking through them. but she does give study terms which helps. overall this class was a huge bore.
Complete WASTE of time. I'm a CADV major and I was very disappointed. Getskow does not teach and appears not to know how to. She spends most of class (and office hours) talking about herself and her life. Like other reviewers have said, she over uses the word "awesome!" and stereotypes students. Do yourself a favor and AVOID this professor.

She is a very nice teacher. And that is about it. If you have her you better like to read because that is what you are going to have to do to pass the class. Her exams are worded very confusing. I REGRET TAKING THIS CLASS!! All she does in class is talk about her family and others. Doesnt even cover material for test. BE prepared to teach urself
I took her for 150 and 250. I enjoyed her class very much and when she talked about her family was to use them as in example for what we were learning in class. I learned a lot in the 250 class about interviews and portfolio's for a career
OMG!!!!!!!! VERY GOOOOD TEACHER! YES SHE DOES GIVES OUT five Exams and you do three assignments but if you go to her office hours and try to study you will be happy with your grade! This Professor is so sweet, nice, and understanding towards her students. I wish I was a Child development major to keep taking her classes

Ok honestly those people that say shes horrible are probably not good students yes she talks about her kids a lot but only to give you examples. As a college student you need to read the textbooks so do not complain people and I went to class regularly to get points, class is based off points not percentage so easy A! she cares about the subject:)

At first when I started this class, I thought that I hadn't learned anything. NO HW whatsoever. Except a resume and a professional interview. You get credit for attending if you do an assignment for that day worth 10pts. One test which was the final and it was a JOKE! but you do gotta pay attention in class. Easiest Class Ever! I got a 95%!!!!!!
if you actually care about helping kids and planning lesson plans then you love this class but it is not easy
Dr. Getskow, provided a great course on The Child Dev Profossion. The material learned in class was always related to Child Dev, social work and teaching. For those students that already know that they want a career in the child dv field, this class will be of great resource.In my opinion, she grades fairly, and her assignments are not difficult.
Does not reply to emails!!! So unhelpful and a lot of the time her directions are not clear. Ridiculously easy class, you'd have to be extremely lazy to get anything but an A. She is a bit sloppy inserting grades in, so be on top of that! Don't even try to email her with a question though, its ridiculous.

As long as you show up to class and participate or at least pay attention to the topics being discussed youre sure to pass. Everything discussed in class is exactly whats on her tests. Shes sweet and caring and truly wants everyones lives to change in some way after taking this class and I can say mine did. Only one out of class assignment.
