Talks down to undergraduates, prejudiced against a specific group of students. Not the worst professor, not mean, but makes comments like "I think this is hard for undergraduates to understand", which was not true at all.
Moody and arogant. She does not always respect your views and ideas about literature.
Her style deffintiely is reading between the lines. She is an intelligent woman who finds the meaning in text. It is very important to read the assignments beforehand.
Very clear about what the goal of our assignments are. In terms of the Lit, she does not care for opinions, just facts, which is very important and fair.
She sucks.
Stay away far away. This woman doesn't give a damn about what her students have to say. If you don't spit back what she wants to hear then this class is not for you.
the class is very interesting and she is a good professor. There are no tests. But she is a harsh grader with papers. You should read all of the assignments and more than once. If you do all your work you will get a good grade. Not that much writing.
She's hell. She doesn't respect student's opinion. She classifies the students. Don't take her unless you have to.
Class is straight forward. Take good notes as she speaks. When writing the papers put effort into it. There were only 3 and if you failed one, you fail the course. It's very helpful to go to her during her office hours with a draft to smooth out rough edges.
her class will be easy for you if you work hard. the topics are very interesting and she i svery smart. if ur strong in english you should be ok...just make sure you read, write and pay attention. There are no tests just papers.
Even if you failed one paper doesn't mean failing the class bc I failed the first one and still managed B-. Only 3 papers and no tests so the only thing you should do is read and take notes. If your not good at essays, dun take this class.
Well, for those of you who had a horrible semister with her, too bad. If you're looking for an easy A, or an easy degree, find another class. Her class was quite interesting and fair. What ever time and studing you put in, it will shows in your grade
This will be a good class if you love Literature, but if you dont you could find it boring. However,the professor is very good in explaining and interpreting the materials clearly. One thing! you have to read the texts, prepare to write, and good note taking helps!! No exams, just three papers but you have to be a good writer.
I had a problem with this professor asking you to do a writing assignment she doesn't grade-she uses it to guide herself and the class based on the topic she's teaching to help understand the reading. It's a problem at the end of the semester-youexpect your work to be graded-it would help you pass if you just couldn't pass. you need Bb-a downer.
Worst teacher I ever had. She repeats herself way too often. The points she brings up are obvious and uninteresting. Choice of literature could have been much better. Hated every second of sitting in this class. At least I caught up on my reading
Obviously if you don't do the readings you're going to have trouble passing the class. I think the professor is really good at explaining the literature and making things clearer. The literature can be difficult but she explains it really well. The only thing is that she's a tough grader, but she does help a lot. I really like the way she explains.
If you are looking for an easy A, find another class. This is a great class if you are interested in learning more about this area of study. Definately visit the writing center before handing in papers. She is a tough grader but is fair and gives you a chance to improve your grade. Overall, great professor.
She is a very good professor, even if you did not read the material, you still get a sense of what it was about by paying attention and taking good notes in class. You may not always agree with her ideas but she explains them very clearly. But you should read if you want to do well on the in-class assignments.
the worst professor i ever had, very hard grader when it comes to the assignment, talks toooo much makes ur butt hurt, not very helpful during office hours, she was very harsh, she didnt want to explain anything when i asked for help, istead she made me feel bad. if u care about ur GPA dont take this class. for incoming freshman ENG 220 is easier
dont. take. this. class. shes terrible. she is unclear about assignments, moves faster than the speed of light with her terrible choices in literature. she gives writing assignments att he start of every class, and doesnt give them back, but grades very harshly. UGH.

really nice, cares a lot about her class, very opinionated yet very encouraging and accepting of others views. I did decent cuz i put in decent effort, if you go to her office hours she really helps!! only 3 papers, pretty awesome, the one class i didnt fall asleep in this semester, well done.
Took her class in Fall 05 she was my 1st A at Hunter and she inspired me to get some more. She really know her stuff and greatly encouraged class participation, but didn't allow people to babble on with nonsensical idealologies. She over explained assignment objectives when she thought we didn't get it and that was very helpful. Overall A+++
Aggressive and condescending to students who don't adopt a sufficiently passive attitude. Gives dumbed-down quizzes to verify reading was done, but negatively grades answers that engage with the reading. Overheard telling colleague, "What sustains me is the brilliance of my own scholarship." A fragile ego in a prickly package, to be avoided.
Loved this class!!..this profesor truly knows her stuff..she makes everyone interact and gets your brain stimulated...she is very clear about her assignments, however not a easy A
DROP IT! ABUSIVE EGOMANIAC. Avoid what happened to me: Gave everyone in class a chance for a "re-write" of their paper except me because I "understood the question, but wrote the wrong answer." When I asked her to explain she said, "My office hours are now over." And she motioned to the door. Needless to say I challenged my grade with the dept. cha
I had read some bad reviews of Ms. Gregg during the summer but even with that i was forced to take her class this fall because Deleon's class was filled. My first three weeks confirmed what most had said about her. She's rude, and loves displaying a patronizingly superior attitude. I felt I had no chance to pass so I took a W. Avoid at all cost!
I think Gregg is writing all of the good reviews on here. Its not enough to write good essays, you have to get inside Greggs head and write and speak about the topics from her point of view, any deviation and she will hurt your grade for it. Your opinions and point of view are all wrong if it differs from hers. You have been warned!
Impossible A, which I prefer. I'm not going to college to get a pat on the back and then get a job and someone say, "Well, that's too bad, but I don't care , you're fired." Regardless of your position on that issue, SHE IS GREAT. She's very knowledgeable, easy to converse with, helps out and responds to any question you might have. A gem.
All who gives Professor Gregg bad reviews are haters. She is awesome!!!!!!!! She only gives three papers. She is so engaging, so smart,so helpful. She opens ups your mind to think out of the box and dig deep into the literature your studding. I think that kind of training is useful throughout college life. She grades hard, so do extra credit.
great professor. has a lot of knowledge and explains concepts very clearly. Reading is very important and if you do all the work than you will get a good grade. coming to class is important becasue it will help alot when it comes to writing the papers
Challenging and interesting IF you have half a brain. If you're willing to put in the effort this professor requires, you'll find this class rewarding and engaging.

Prof. Gregg appears to not care about neither her students nor their opinions. At times her lectures felt to me like I was being Brainwashed. She is extremely hard when it comes to grades and treats students with disrespect! If you can avoid this class- I highly recommend you do so.. If not- May teh force be with you!
I really liked the class, but it is really hard to make a good grate. I am not sure what was so unclear on what people were writing on papers. She always tried to go over the essay question, but still it does not make it any clearer.
Don't take her if you can avoid it. The class is REALLY difficult if your mind isn't COMPLETELY in tuned with hers. Grading is off 75% of the time, & understanding her reasoning for why you were wrong makes no sense. Doesn't answer emails, & make sure you get all her material ASAP, otherwise you'll find her book DOES NOT EXIST and YOU WILL FAIL.
Professor hops, is the worst professor. Don't take this class! She is unclear about her assignments. And how dare you have an opinion other than hers. She's a bitter old woman. I don't understand why people were so fearful of her. Maybe its her evil laughter. Or maybe they were afraid she does voodoo.
She is very inflexible and biased to her own logic/opinion, she tries to make you think critically but her methods are very poor and for that your grades WILL suffer. Going to her office hours will bring no extra clarity. Attend all classes in order to possibly understand what is going on. If you care about getting high grades AVOID THIS CLASS
ok, first of all, don't take this class if you want a easy A or even a C, because she is not giving it to you. I am actually a A- or a B student and oh boy, she gave such a poor grade on all my written assignments. That has never happened before in my life!!! Visiting her during her office hours does not help at all!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
IMHO, Professor Gregg is an idiot. Condescending and useless. On ALL my papers she either wrote "Great work" yet she cannot explain why I am missing 30% of the points. alternatively she writes "did not understand the material" but cannot explain why.
i'm from the Caribbean so i took this class to learn, MISTAKE. If you don't NEED this class, you are better off buying a book and you will learn something. your GPA will thank you. although my major is biochem -in 4 years of hunter ive taken at least 25 humanities and never gotten below a A. this class i worked super super hard - for a glorified C.
As long as you take notes in her class, you'll be fine. About 10 pgs or less to read a wk but she'll blackboard saying make sure you read before class which means there may be a quiz. There are some days when she will cancel class so check blackboard. 3 papers but all you need is your notes & you pass with at least a B on each paper. Not hard!
This class is not an easy A. But Professor Gregg knows her stuff. She doesn't really care for peoples opinions but she challenges you to think!! If you come to class and take notes you will do well and do not hesitate to come see her during office hours truly helpful!!
Shes an OK professor but is very very strict about attendance... if you dont make it to class regularly she will give you an incomplete even if you got an A in all the work. The subject itself seemed interesting enough but the class was very boring. She asks esoteric questions looking for concrete answers which drove me nuts.
She's a straight up jerk. Avoid this professor at all cost. She grades unfairly, gives retarded assignments. Likes to take away points from student. I've missed two out of about 20 in-class assignment and it dropped my grade from a B+ to a B. Avoid this professor at all cost!!
Stay away from this class! This class ruin my GPA. I dont know how i went from a B to a C by missing 2 in-class assignments, when the syllabus clearly states that "class grades will be divided equally amongst 3 papers."
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She is soo complicated. Her assignments are very difficult. Most importantly,she loves giving b's and c's. Noone gets A's in this class. I'm an A student but i feel like a complete loser, idiot and failure in this class. I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!
Professor Gregg has pushed my literary comprehension to a new level. She is the epitome of a great teacher. She doesn't make it easy for you. It is hard. You have to pay attention. You have to show up and do exactly what she has assigned. At the end of her class I am a stronger writing and reader. For that I am glad I took her class.

This teacher will challenge you. She doesn't make things easy, and she is pretty tough, but she's sharp as a tack, and you will benefit from it. If you're in college because you want to learn, to be a better writer and thinker, take this class. If you are a bit of a whiner, or want to be breast-fed information, stay away for your own good.

She is really not that bad. I took her and got an A. She like's what she like's, but she tell's you what that is! Just go to class and listen, go to her office hours, and make sure she know's your name! One day is a lecture, the other is a blackboard writeing assignment. I enjoyed the class
The hardest grader I've ever had to face. Took off 20 points without really explaining why off of every essay I've written... which accounts for my B grade (80%). Do yourself a favor, take another section!!
AWFUL.AVOID AT ALL COST.The writing I did was good and i do think it's because she makes you look at literature in a new way BUT,she is condescending,rude,detached and encourages coming to her office so she can shoot you down within minutes when you get there.Awful professor. Grades hard but your writing will improve as a result. Uncompromising on office hours and late work, so just do what you're supposed to on time and don't whine about it. The material was interesting and I left feeling like I actually learned something.

She is awful. Not a good professor, does not care about students. Grades your writing probably in comparison to her own. She had this one pet who was so annoying. I would never want to be a brainwashed fool like that, which is what you need to be/pretend to be to get a good grade. My GPA hates her.
Great professor. Her work is a bit hard to understand but once you reread her question carefully you should get the hang of it. Much of her classes are online and you only have to attend a face to face class once a week which was great. Her grading is fair- if you do good work than you should you get a good grade.
Really rigid in her interpretation of the material, and will basically grade punitively anything that deviates from or contradicts it.The material is interesting, but her coursework is confusing in the way it is worded. SHE DOES NOT TEACH BY SOCRATIC METHOD AT ALL. If you don't care about having an opinion and are good w/ deadlines go for it.
Prof gregg is an amazing professor!! She makes sure you have a clear understanding of the readings. I's a good idea to participate but it shouldnt be a problem bc the discussions are interesting. After taking her class, my writing also improved. She doesnt baby you, but challenges you. Thats what you need to get the most out of a course. TAKE HER!
She likes long writings, if you try to be short and clear you would probably get low grade. Give her exact answer that she wants if your answer has the same meaning as hers but phrased differently she won't accept it. She does not accept the fact the people have different opinions, if you in her class you should think like her, strict on grades.
You can't communicate with her by email, she gives you vague assignments and then claims that they are clear. You will get a bad grade in this class. The readings are pretty interesting though!
Your grade depends on three papers. And in these three papers, she has a load of requirements that you must meet. I missed one requirement, and failed an entire paper. Got a B and a B+ on the other two. In the end I got a D for the course. Don't ever take this class.
Don't ever take this class!It was the worst class ever, as an international student I had problem to understand her-not clear assignments.I was really excited but end up with C, first assignment I got C+,second I got A+, and final C all grades from writings the paper.No extra points.She takes -5 points if you miss in class writing or you write bad.
Her class wasn't very easy, but she was very clear about what she wanted done in the assignments while still leaving freedom for students focus on the points they wanted to. The novels she chose were great and the class was interesting.
Prof. Gregg is the best professor I've had while at Hunter. The way she dissects the literature in her courses is amazing. She FORCES you to think outside of societal norms. She makes you dig deeper and even makes you question your own thinking. The writings are not difficult and the readings are intriguing. I recommend her courses!
The only thing I like about this class is the readings. Besides that I have not learned anything and nor am I being taught anything. Many regrets. Wish I would have spent my money on another class.
She is very stubborn. She also purposely tried to fail me. I submitted an assignment and waited 3 weeks for a grade only to find out she gave me a 0 and the comment said "Never submitted" When I confronted her in her office, she noticed she can't fail me because it was done, so within 1 second She gave me a D (the next worst grade)
Professor Gregg is a very intelligent woman and if you pay attention you would actually learn a lot. She gives a lot of work, but her lectures and the topics we discussed made the class very interesting. It was really a pleasure for me to have such a professor! Bottom line you have to be ready to do the work, you're not in high school anymore!

Her grades are based on 3 papers which if you fail one you fail the class. I tried talking to her about a paper and she is very stubborn and seems not to care. I opened up a little and told her some things were happening and she gave a little. The slightest bit. Which is a lot for her. She is a nice person and passionate but not a great teacher.
The texts & video are very interesting.after carefully reviewing my 1st paper (as she constantly stressed about the objective's importance) I received a 0 because "my source was outdated"; something she never specified in class. After visiting her office hrs, she spoke to me in a condescending, irritated manner. I would never take her class again.

I liked her lectures very much. They were very interesting and she clearly knows a lot about her topics. (As all professors are supposed to) BUT, in the context of her grading style, she is not very planned nor is she organized. The distribution of percentages that determine ones grade are very very poorly set up.
She is a very harsh grader and not clear at all on the assignments she gives. She was absent a lot and suggested that we take the class time missed to do work. She is very dismissive and doesn't take the time to fully listen to questions she is being asked.
I withdraw bcuz she was a hard grader and i did my work and explained thoroughly and she said i was not. I did carib lit and even read some of works etc prior and when i spoke in class she agreed but when i wrote and submitted she would be harsh. This is the worst professor that I have ever had. I ultimately ended up failing the course and I have never received lower than a B- for a lower grade. When I went into her office hours to address my grade, she wouldn't talk about past assignments and when asked if I could speak she said, "no, because you are wrong." Avoid this class!

This is worst class I ever took. She's a hard grader and she is very rude when it comes to trying to talk to students about grades. She hurt my GPA & I had to take an extra class in order to get my GPA higher. Please avoid this class.
I was forced to sort of take this class being a transfer student as other classes were filling up. I was very concerned after reading reviews from this site. The thing is, she's not that bad. She gave amazing lectures, she was well informed about the topics and very eloquent. She doesn't baby you, and she expects you to be independent.
Veronica Gregg is amazing in terms of knowing the material for the course and clearly teaching the material to students. HOWEVER, this is not a high school class and she really believes in students acting as adults, WHICH THEY SHOULD IN COLLEGE. Do not expect her to baby you. If you aren't an independent student, don't take her.

Two weeks in- she gave me a zero for an assignment on using a website she had no plans to instruct us on. Rather than give us work that tests our understanding of ANY of the multiple texts she has us read per week, we are tested on how to use a website she simply expects us to "understand". Horrible assignments/grading methods. Avoid!!!
Really BAD!! DO yourself a favor and don't take her. If you have a question she would only answer you during her "office hours" which is only one hour. The work she gives is confusing and doesn't explain much
Wonderful professor, most of the class is designed online on your own time. Fair grading but must pay very close attention to all announcements and directions for homework.
Not as bad as some ratings here suggest. Prof. Gregg was really specific about what she wanted, not a lot of assignments, and they are pretty easy. Most of the work was online. She gives you extra credit and chances to improve. If you take the class seriously, complete the work on time and write that extra sentence, then you are all set.
I did not want to believe the ratings on here, so i believed the two good ratings because I needed to take another elective. It was the most disappointing class experience I have had. She was never clear with any of the assignments, never available(even during her office hours). Please save yourself from the frustration.

Her work is often quite confusing as she's not very specific with what we need to put in our assignments. It might seem easy but once she grades it, almost everyone gets a bad grade. If you're trying to get an easy A for a writing intensive class, avoid her.
Grades EXTREMELY harshly without setting standards. Her feedback is ridiculous, self-contradictory, sometimes straight-up wrong. Worst of all she won't discuss grades, impossible to communicate with. Don't waste your time, there's literally nothing you can do to get an A in this class. She was nice about the pandemic, but the class was terrible.
This professor looks for any excuse to take you off points in any assignments, even if there's nothing wrong. She does not communicate with her students enough and doesn't answer emails ever. Worst professor I've ever taken, I strongly suggest not to take her.
I did not like professor Gregg's grading style, she focused too much on MLA format instead of the actual information being taught, most of the stuff she taught I had already encountered in high school and earlier years of college, overall it was not much of a learning experience, her class is tedious, would not take again.
I took this class because I saw a couple of good reviews but apparently, the bad reviews were correct. I took this class because it would fulfill two categories of credits I need and this class has been nothing but stressful. She has no clear grading criteria and never answers emails. I've emailed her so many times and still no response.

I made an account literally just to review this professor. Please, please, PLEASE for the love of god do not, DO NOT take this professor. She is an incredibly harsh grader. I can not stress this enough. I had put in my full effort and cited all my answers and would still lose points, no partial credit just a full zero with out any clear explanation
Terrible! She doesnt respond to emails instead shell post it on bb for everyone to see. She gives 7 questions for midterm and final and 2 weeks to do it. Its so difficult and stressful. Choose another profe this one is tough
BEWARE! I'm from her island. She is every awful stereotype of us. Rude and intimidating. Doesn't allow for freethinking. Very rigid in her teaching. You will learn from the textbook not from her. Each class is filled w/tension. Everyone is afraid 2 speak for fear of her lashing out. I worked very hard. I'm an avg B+ student. I barely made the it.
I did well in her class and I'm telling you not to take it. I am an extremely strong humanities student and this class was awful. The work is not that much and you don't really have to attend class BUT: She doesn't answer emails. She gives no feedback. She grades using a secret rubric. She will not help you. She doesn't care about her students.
I took her for the fall semester 2020 online, she seems nice over zoom. BUT JESUS she grades so toughly. She would ask us to write papers on our opinion on a reading and then grade it saying my choice was incorrect. HOW IS MY OPINION INCORRECT!!!? You could be a really good writer, but I think she only accepts your answer if she agrees with it.
Avoid this professor at all costs. My entire class and I sent numerous emails to her in which she took an average time of a week to reply. The grading criteria is very unclear and this professor also skips her scheduled office hours at times without making the class aware. If you complain to the department, she will ensure that you do not pass.
WARNING: AVOID this professor at all costs! ZERO communication with students, NO clear grading, gives you PDFs to read that are so blurry you can barely read them and expects you to write pages on them, NO lectures, only gives a few sentences per module of info, will give you a ZERO for an entire assignment if she doesn't like it even if you try!!!
I would not suggest this professor at all, I have never complained about any of my professors but this professor was no help at all. Never again. She never even bothered giving zoom classes or giving us the opportunity to have a group chat to help one another.

Worst professor ever. If you cannot attend office hours you won't ever be able to talk to her regarding grades because she doesn't answer emails. Post a lot of texts and gives no explanation whatsover. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR.
I would say do not take her classes if u have another choices. So many required reading. Unclear feedback.
Please do not take this class I am warning all students who are looking at this class for writing intensive requirements worst professor ever I got a D my lowest grade ever and not deserved you can be partially correct or in the right direction but your answer will be marked wrong very unclear on directions and feedback no sense at all please avoid
As much as I enjoyed the material, I do not rec Gregg. Grading criteria and assignment instructions were very unclear and she's difficult to get a hold of. Office hours are on zoom chat only. Constantly had to provide clarification on work (even for the final). If you have the option I suggest taking another prof. Not a lot of writing for WI class.
