Awesome course! Veronica is an excellent teacher funny but to the point! Highly reccomended!
Valuable asset to UCSC community! Great person, great instruction.

she is a strong and intelligent woman. be prepared to work hard.
Too full of herself to teach well
This is one of those teachers who could be so good if she wasn't so darn closed minded. She is very full of herself and insists she is right even on topics I have throughly and specifically researched she has made painfully/disturbingly erroneous claims.
Had her for human sexuality. She is.. into the topic. Easy class, but if you take a section(optional but I recommend) you practically dont have to come to class for the first 2/3. Wayy too big of a class, no good discussion in class time.
how can a class about sex be made boring??
very rude, dispite the fact that she was voted hottest faculty member on campus!!! she seems to deal with her insecurities by embarassing students in the middle of lecture...
Somewhat interesting lectures, with an occasional film here and there. Nice interactions with the class.
Knows her stuff, easy workload, and hot as hell for a woman over 40. This is one of the classes u HAVE to take sometime in your 4 yrs. @ ucsc.
Interesting class and good looking teacher
Really knows her stuff. She has great example and stories that are really interesting. She is a no BS teacher, but her class was one of my favorite of the year. Very interactive with the class. Be prepared for a good deal of work though.

I took the **** Pronouncements option, and did the performance in front of the class on the last day; I think that this was the way to go, if you can handle talking about your **** in front of 300 people. Tests are also easy, great teacher.
I thought that she was a very good teacher, and I would gladly take another one of her classes again.
Fabulous
She makes class interesting and fun. Her lecture is interesting but overhead projector that she uses for lecture is bit hard to follow for us.
Very humerous and uses wonderful examples to explain all of her topics. Expects you to work hard but is very fair with tests. Gives you many choices on how you want to be graded.
Awesome teacher. She made it so I didn't want/have to fall asleep. Great sense of humor, watch out for that fake smile. ;) I got an AWESOME eval... I'd highly recommend Dr. Tonay. (drtonay.com)
AWESOME PROFESSOR !!
Made the class very interesting and easy. This is one class that I was able to stay awake in the entire time.
amazing
the only class this quarter i didnt fall asleep in. a fun professor...finally!!!
Veronica is a fountain of knowledge. SUPER COOL. I was a bit unsure of her at first, but that feeling went away FAST. It was a pain going to lecture, but once I got there I didn't want to leave. Inspiring in so many ways. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Great class to take. Hard to get into as a first year but definitely take it if you can.
Great class, great teacher...very enthusiastic about the subject and makes learning fun!
She made class fun.
made the class very interesting. i struggled a bit in the class b/c i chose to take 2 midterms and the final. if you pick gonig to section and the final you'll definitely get an A in the class. i got a B- im happy.
She's funny.
Wonderful. Best lecturer here at UCSC in my opinion. Take any of her classes if you get the chance. Enlightening, fascenating, etc. I actually got excited about going to class <gasp> because it was so interesting.
Tonay is a bit self-absorbed but is definitely a really cool professor, Great lecturer too. Take the section option (and do the work and go to sections) and you're set for an A. The material is interesting, so it's not difficult to go to class.
GREAT lectures and it's not too hard to get an A. Plus, who doesn't want to learn about sex, eh?! =)
Tonay is a great lecturer, and it's a really interesting class. It's an easy and fun class to take whether you're looking to fill the GE or want to learn more about your sexuality. Take the section option& use the study guide, it's an easy A.
I took her Community Psych class. Super smart! Hot too! Knows her topics well and is very organized when teaching. I've graduated, but I still remember helpful knowledge from her class.
this lady is good, little self focused, but knows her info and makes the class fun. human sexuality could be boring but she makes it interesting and is not worried about being self concious
seriously one of the best professors i have ever taken a class from in this university. i will definitely take another course from her if i ever get the chance!
veronica loves teaching and she is fun. her lectures are very interesting. you will look foreward to going to class. Veronica has a way of flirting with the class in lectures and its really great.
This class is very intresting and really easy. The lectures are fun and veronica is really funny. Her tests are really easy they consist of essay questions and multiple choice, but she gives you the easy questions before hand. Easy A, trust me
This class rules. It's so interesting. She's such a good lecturer, really knows her stuff. I had oodles of fun.
tonay is an inspiring professor. she talks to students as though they are people rather than students. she lectures clearly, but doesnt use the board often, so u have to pay attention. awesome teacher though, highly recommended.
Tonay is an awesome lecturer, definately my favorite of all psych lecturers so far. Her lectures are easy to follow, and the supplementary readings are very easy and fun to read. I definately recommend taking one of her classes.
Veronica Tonay is a wondeful lecturer! She's very intelligent about speaking on subjects that she loves. However, this particular class is HUGE! Tonay is a better lecturer when the classes are smaller. Don't take it if you don't like sitting in classroom full of 350 people who CONSTANTLY CHATTERS.
This class really isn't as good as I hoped. Veronica wastes time in lecture (Up to an hour in one lecture) on stupid class activities which make a point that could have been make in one sentence.. Lectures do not help with the tests- so coming to class is pretty pointless.. Why do people like her!?!
best teacher i had here. made it fun. learned so much in all her classes. liked the class websites, mix of lecture, facts, exercises. a real person, and she went here for her BA (yea, hot, too)
When you tell your bio teacher who you're taking Human Sexuality from, it's a bad sign when she starts ranting about how that teacher gives misinformation. It was an entertaining class, but don't trust the information she gives you.
Interesting Lectures
overated
Very interesting and clear lecturer. Also very funny and witty. Also provides lots of grading options based on different learning styles and interest. I learned a lot and enjoyed the class. My only complaint is that a couple times I thought she generalized too much.
Awesome teacher if you really want to learn.
i took this class at a community college and i like it so much i took it again...big disappointment. everytime i went to lecture, i felt like i learned nothing, just a bunch of sexuality theories and almost all the exercises were a waste time. on a uc level, it was ok but they can do a lot better.
Veronica Tonay is an intelligent and engaging lecturer. However, the class is TOO LARGE, TOO NOISY, and the T.A'S doesn't seem as though they care their students at all. Veronica ends the class TOO early and waste time doing pointless exercises. Overall, this class too somewhat overatted!
Good professor, talks a bit fast sometimes, not enough for my working memory with it's 7 items give or take to keep in memory and write down. The class is challenging. Put effort in the class and you'll do fine.
I really liked Veronica Tonay. She has a great personality and is very nice. One of my favorite teachers. p.s. she's pretty hot too.
her first lecture was the best and the ones after that had me bored most of the time. when answering personal written questions, she was somewhat harsh. she wasn't sensitive to people's feelings. it seems to me like she thinks she knows everything, and she definitely doesn't.
BEWARE OF ****! Veronia is totally insensative. She is concerned much more with being the cool hot teacher than actually teaching. I learned more from the book than anything else. However, if you MUST take this class do the section option. The tests are hard.
She is one of the most popular teachers in psych and for good reason. I've never heard her being insensitive at all. Far from it. As a psych major, I got a lot out of all her classes.
Professor Tonay is truly amazing. This class is both valuable and interesting. Her humor makes difficult and sensitive subjects easier to approach and study. I recommend this class to everyone. I learned so much, but the best part was Professor Tonay's lectures. The class is challenging but worth it
Coming into the class I was very excited about taking it. Now I regret taking it. Her facts were incorrect and she was very insensative. She stresses not to laugh because it could offend someone's practices, but is callus in her Child Abuse lecture. Don't take this class unless you are a sadist.
Professor Tonay is not callous, but she IS professional. As a therapist, she has a lot of experience talking about sensitive issues and it shows. In the context of a huge class where many students are looking for an easy gen ed requirement, I'd say she does a great job!
The bottom line is: take this class if you are actually interested in the subject. It's not easy enough to just breeze through, and she won't cater to students who just want to be carressed and told the way they have sex is okay (go to a self-help group, guys). She is fantastic and down-to-earth.
class topic is cool. tests are somewhat difficult. TA's are****ty. Professor is cool.
A great teacher. Interesting class. Sections are a much easier option than the tests. If you want to just relax and not worry then take it P/NP, then you can enjoy her lectures.
shes great, and can handle talking about anal sex and how to find the gspot in front of 500 kids. really a great class. if possible take the section option, then u will have an easy A. otherwise, u must go to lecture and read. but who doesnt want to read about sex?
first lecture really interesting. after that it was ok. she is really opened and descriptive. great person to know. do the sections if possible (a lot easier than tests)she gives u options.i didnt even buy the book. i paid attention and had section. but still try to read. i got a b in the class
From the name, you'd think this was a great, interesting class. But this professor was irritating, gave incorrect information about STD's (!) and spent more time trying to get students to like her than teaching the material. Do the section option!
She is so easy..as long as you go to class. She gives lots of e.c opps too. Fun class, cool teacher
Her tests are hard and her lectures can be disorganized. TAKE EXCELLENT NOTES!!! She talks really fast sometimes but she is VERY interesting and for the most part knows her stuff. Sometimes in the midst of her unclairty she will make some profound point that brings the whole lecture together.
She has to be one of the few people who can actually pull off a good lecture in front of 400 people.
Veronica's classes can be a bit challenging but she makes them so interesting that it does not feel that way. She is very entertaining and really knows her stuff. She lectures a lot without a lots of notes but keeps you so engaged that you learn it without a lots of notes. She's also so funny!
The best class I have taken from Veronica yet (better than 41 or 166)! Lectures are incredibally interesting. Tests are very challenging. TAKE EXCELLENT NOTES (write down everything she says even if it seems trivial because it will show up on tests)! She's genuinely interested in the material. Wonderful class for all clinical psych majors.
Fantastic course! Several grading options (section or paper or 3 midterms) plus easy final. Use the study guide - half the exams are word-for-word out of there.
she's a better upper div teacher in my opinion. I really liked community psych and she was great at conveying all the issues. She can be a hard teacher, and she's pretty busy all the time since she's a working therapist.
my favorite teacher by far!!! she is amazing!
Total ****! She is really cynical and rather sarcastic. She doesn't seem to like to be asked questions. Gives sarcastic responses to students answers. Advertises her work in class.
i want to do her! she knows everything about sex! shes a very busy women!her lectures are awesome and shes nice to look at! her class is overall pretty easy and fun!
she is one of the better upper-div teachers in the sense that she tries to challenge the student. also, i love the fact that she talks about her work all the time because it makes a psyc degree so much more worth it. tests are challenging, write everything
This class was fantastic...she's tough but the stuff is so interesting - you really want to learn the stuff! It was a great class!
I really liked this class. She had interesting interactives, a good set-up for discussion sections, and fairly neat readings. It was challenging, but in a good way.
sarcastic? cynical? are you sure you had the right person? my favorite teacher at UCSC. great classes. study hard. worth it.
Awesome teacher. So far, the best psych teacher I've had. Lectures are interesting. Be prepared to take good notes, but she does tell you what will be on her tests.
favorite teacher so far can't wait to take UD's with her as well as Nameera. Great inspiration and always keeps you interested. for the tests tell her what you know and you are set.
I absolutly loath this class. The final paper is dreadful. What a horrible teacher. Don't take this class.
This was a good class in general. However I have to say that she is a bit to impressed with herself for my liking. It was really annoying when people asked her to slow down what she said so we could take notes and then she said it faster. Teaches philosiphes that she does not apply in her own clinical practice. She does not respond well to grading
I was intially wary of her because she brings a calculated, "cold" presentation of herself to class, but after a few weeks, I came to appreciate her ability to present material in a logical manner, her dry sense of humor, her genuine concern for the progress of her students, and that she presents BETTER material than any other prof. I learned tons.
She can come off as a little cold or disinterested, especially if you try to say something to her after class--but keep in mind that she teaches AND works as a Psychiatrist AND has been working on a TV show! She took time out of a lecture once to appologize for any behavior that might have been seeen as cold. She admits she's an introvert.
Hands down the best lecturer I've had here at Santa Cruz. Incredably inspiring, I always learn more than I could have hoped to learn, and a role model for both men and women. I wish I had more opportunities to take her classes.
Fun class, interesting material. Great teacher! Highly recommended! Not too hard, easy concepts
She's a bit in love with herself which put me off when i took human sexuality but her community psy class is not to be missed. hands down my favorite psych class i took at UCSC out of 19!!! she also is sorta rude to male students. the paper assignments and test questions were inspired and allowed you to apply theory to real worl problems. LOVE IT
'System of Psychotherapy' is a great class for aspiring clinicians. Veronica is a great lecturer, extremely intelligent and interesting. Her exams are easy if you understand the concepts, similar to philosophy in that sense. If you're looking to get into grad school for psychology to become a clinician she is your woman. And can we say cutie?
Amazing! I learned a lot from community psych and the final paper was fun! I got to design my own community program.
Great teacher! Her tests are easy if you do the (small) amount of reading she assigns and her lectures are very straight foward. I enjoyed her human sexuality class very much and would reccomend it.
Prof. Tonay is a nice person and her lectures are interesting enough to keep you awake. My only complaint is the super hard midterms and all-or-nothing final. Yes, failing the final=failing the class doesnt matter how good you did on the midterms & papers.
Amazing... Take Human Sexuality
Take the section option. If there is so much as a minor glitch in a test that you would want help about, she just pulls the "Human sexuality is a 450 student class..." excuse, which is lame since she knows how many she's teaching when she starts. If you just have a general question about the topic, she's really helpful and knows her information.
Professor Tonay is a charismatic woman and a captivating teacher. Her lectures in Human Sexuality never had a dull moment. All you need to succeed in this class is a clear understanding of her expectations, and you can do wonderfully well.
Her lectures may be well delivered and entertaining, but don't expect her to respect you or even talk to you one-on-one. She believes herself to be infallable. If you take the all-tests option, you only have to go to the class on guest-lecture days, tests are multiple choice nearly straight out of the book.
It is amazing to read all these inaccurate comments on here! I came to UCSC because my sister went here and recommended Tonay so highly, and I thought she was fantastic. I learned so much. It is a 450 student class so how are you going to get individual attention? Get real. She was very genuine to me, but knows she is your teacher, not your friend
She is a dynamic lecturer, and grades fairly. Know a lot about psychology in general.
Wonderful teacher, so much fun to be in her class!
Great professor, she really knows the material and is passionate about teaching it. Makes a depressing subject interesting and fun. Very engaging and helpful. She is a great professor and i recomend taking any class from her. The test were not to bad and she even gives you a study guide. If you go to class, do the readings, and study you will be f
My favorite Professor so far. She was very nice and funny during lectures. I can't wait to take more classes from her in the future,
The material is interesting and she is clearly a knowledgable teacher. She's not all that approachable, often is terse and unfriendly. Keep up with the reading and take every word on the study guide to heart. Good class overall.
Veronica Tonay is hands down the best professor I've ever had. Her lectures are structured, clear, and VERY useful (her class blew Quinn's clinical psyc class clear out of the water). She has a few weak points, though: She's the harshest grader you'll ever meet, and she's NEVER available. she allegedly holds office hours by appointment, but I never
This class has so much potential to be wonderful but there simply is too much material and too many exams. The exams are graded very harshly. There is also a group project (graded easily) and a large paper. Professor Tonay is forward, and the material is very interesting, but there is no time to absorb a lot of it.
Fun teacher and interesting lectures. Interactes well with students in lecture and wants to create a very comfortable environment for everyone. She's little arogant but other then that it's a pretty fun class. Section was really great as well.
Initially,I had little interest in the subject but ended up loving it&attended every class.Lectures are clear&interesting.Conveys topic well, great stories for illustration.Be prepared to put in effort.I feel she has confidence & a sense of certainty in herself(I give her props)which some of you interpret as "arrogance" and being "too into herself".
This class is amazing. I wasn't that interested in the subject prior to taking the class, but it really inspired me to pursue a career in psych. We had a reader that was a little over 20 dollars, and she is a great lecturer. The tests were very fair and I didn't find her to be a hard grader at all. I would highly recommend this class!!
Prof. Tonay is a very clear lecturer and the class is interesting because she is basically giving you relationship advice for the rest of your life. However, the tests are almost MEAN. There is no reason why they need to be so nit-picky but they are. It's ridiculous. BUt overall, I would recommend the class.
I loved this class! Prof. Tonay is good at lecturing about a subject that is very personal to many. Tons of relationship advice is given, and I constantly related the info to my own life. I would highly suggest taking this class even if does not benefit your GE. The tests can be tricky, but reading the textbook and using the reviews helps a lot.
Prof. Tonay was pretty good. She seemed to care a lot about Human Sexuality. This class was pretty easy, all I did was study for a couple hours the night before the test and got an A. There is not even that much reading. Some time she goes overboard with relationship advice. Overall, good class, I'd recommend it!
Fun class. Veronica is funny and a good professor. Her tests are difficult because she makes them tricky! DO NOT do the paper option, the 12-15 page requirement is almost impossible!! Material is fun of course, I looked forward to going to this class.
Great lecturer, really funny, answers everyone's questions in class (even allows time to answer questions from people who wrote her a note), really informative, and overall a GREAT class. I highly recommend people to take her class. If she's teaching a class, you're gonna enjoy it. :)
She knows her material. The most interesting lecture was on sexual fantasies and dreams since she is a psychologist in that area in Santa Cruz. This is an entertaining class and teaches you alot about the psychology of sex and differences in gender identity. worth taking anytime its available
Great class! Completely irrelevant to my major, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Excellent teaching style, choice of materials, lecture material, etc. Be prepared to dedicate a good amount of time to studying for several midterms and a final. Sections kinda suck, since you probably won't get your first choice of topic. Worth it, though!
Professor Tonay made the very difficult and sometimes laborous world of psychotherapy very interesting, easy to understand and even fun. She gives A LOT of information fast and expects you to remember more or less everything in her lectures. But she makes you learn and its a very engaging lecturer.
Though the content of this class could have been relevant an "Intro to Psychoanalytic theory" class, the scope of the information that she gave on applied therapies in CMH was extremely narrow. Psychoanalytic therapy is RARELY used in CMH facilities, so if you're looking for info on relevant APPLIED theories in the real world, you wont get it here
I love Tonay and I was not expecting to at all. She taught me wonders and teaches everything as clear as a bell. By far the best teacher I have ever had. It would be a really difficult class if you dont enjoy the material.
A very easy and overrated class. Excellent lecturer however. The content was borderline interesting. I wanted to learn more about why men and women are the way they were. Instead we simply learned the ways that they differ (not mechanisms). We also learned about STIs, which I thought was out of place for this psych class.
Great class. Almost everybody comes to class every day. Confused about other post. She did not talk about psychoanalytic therapy. The class has psychodynamic, cognitive, and social-learning concepts, not therapy, and you learn how they are applied ethically in agencies and design your own. Very useful. Got an A.
I thought this class was pretty interesting. she just stands at the front and talks, very very softly. No lap tops are allowed, and she will gets PISSED if your phone goes off. The tests and reading were okay, but i had a terrible time with the TA. Chris Cochran was AWFUL, and ruined the class and the experience for me
Tonay is great. Funny and interesting, and loves questions. She responds to emails fairly quickly and in depth, despite having a lot of students. Very fun class, I'd highly recommend both it and the professor.
Loved the class. The tests were really tough. I chose the paper option, piece of cake. Do not overestimate the class, you really do need to study and take good notes.
Tonay is great! Information is interesting and she is organized and presents it well. She is extremely knowledgeable about the subject. Keeps you informed about the class with e-mails. Loved this professor... hope the they don't cut human sexuality cause it is an awesome class. TAKE IT!
One of my favorite professors from Santa Cruz! Made the subject sooo interesting (not that it wasnt). Clear, nice, and fun. Tests are pretty easy but still make sure to study to completely understand what she's talking about in class. Wish I could take her again...
nice professor but her tests are extremely hard and long esp since she does not cover much in class! this is extremely frustrating because she goes through the material really quick, makes a lot of side comments and slides that will not be on the test. She refused to go back to previous slides for us to copy important info. Avoid if possible
I hear that Veronica is very good in human sexuality, but she was rather atrocious in Abnormal Psych (170). She most certainly lives in her own world and her exams are ludicrous in length and content. Her teaching style can best be summed up as: Annoying - she rushes through and doesn't really care about feedback. Her assignments are asinine.
This class was challenging because it was summer and very compact. I liked that she designed the class to help us actually learn the material. I'm hoping to become a clinical psychologist and found her approach thought provoking. If you're looking for an easy A, it's not about that in this class (think I got one though). Great class.
I suggest not taking her classes during the summer, since she works all day before class. She seemed tired and sort of just blazed through the material as if it bored her. The tests were insanely long (2.5 hour essay exams) and she expressed a lot of strong opinions against aspects of psychology without showing us evidence to support them.
This class was kick-ass hard but I learnt more from her than any other teacher, bar none. Her examples came from her personal practice, and she had loads of examples for every case. People complained about her exams being long, but they actually got you to remember the concepts. The study guides were helpful, and she was responsive to questions.
Great professor! I thought she was a little pompous at first, but she turned out to be a really informative and caring professor. She is knowledgeable about her subject and gives fair tests. Fun in-class video clips too!
Grading is whack. A class with easy subject material is made artificially hard bcuz she doesn't like psychology's rep of classes being easy. An answer that has everything she's looking for can't get full credit unless it goes "above and beyond", and she never specifies how to do so. She's also rude to people that ask/answer questions in class.
Took this as my senior seminar. Best class ever. Indescribable experience. Mind-blowing. Learned so much I never knew before. Left every night with my mind vibrating. Profound.
This was the hardest psych class I've taken so far. The material isn't hard but she makes it very difficult to get an A. She is very exacting and a perfectionist. Her tests are all essays, and to get full points you have to have a very comprehensive answer with a demonstrable depth of knowledge. I got an A but this class was extremely challenging..
Great class! She gives you material you can use when you get out of school to get a job, in your own life, and to help out other people. A lot of interesting discussion happens in this class. Wise, funny prof. ( I have to say to the other person who posted above me, I think that kind of response you mention is what is supposed to earn an A.)
Tonay is an amazing teacher in that everything she says in class is interesting and she is clear in getting her point across. However, the grading is extremely hard and doing the readings and outside course work is necessary.
In my experience, Tonay has talked down to her students, reasserted her claims vehemently even when students suggest contradictory evidence, simplified ethnic/racial background while ignoring many other aspects of identity, graded harshly, punished "stupid" questions, and generally taken no nonsense from any undergrad. Not what I envisioned at all.
It's amazing how people can have such different experiences, like they are rating two completely different profs. She is one of the most popular teachers, for good reason. She teaches at college level. I've never seen her talk down to anyone. I have seen students high on themselves talk down to her, though, like happens in most every class here.
Tonay looks down on her students. If you email her asking for feedback on a test in person she will shoot you a very condescending email just to get out of meeting up with you. Answers on tests are impossible to get an A on and she is very prone to her opinion and believes her opinion is the only "right" opinion. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Veronica Tonay is one of the hardest professors but also one of the best. Psychological Interpretation was one of the hardest classes I have taken in psychology, however if you truly study and give your all on your assignments, you get rewarded for your effort. Tonay was always available to answer questions and is understanding if you struggle.
Tonay was not a good professor, she was not understanding or fair, she seemed unfriendly and arrogant, she did not explain concepts well, her lectures were disorganized, her exams were very difficult, her TA's were unfair graders, and she has a paper due the second day of class.
She was amazing! She was incredibly funny and very clever. For some the text was dry but the subject facinated me and I enjoyed reading it. You learn more about assessment tests than personalities but if you ever want to be a clinition this class is perfect
LOVE Tonay. She's awesome, gives a lot of examples from her experience being a personal therapist. She knows a lot of stuff, and she's got a sense of humor. 5 Stars.
Great class! It impacted my career decisions more than any other here. Tonay is really inspiring. Warm, fair, brilliant. Respectful environment. Challenging class. 15-25% get As according to stats she gives in class.
Don't take this class. Tests were difficult based both articles you read outside of lecturer (heavy workload) and on her lecturers. She provides a study guide with about 20 essay questions and only asks 5 of them on the exam so it gives you a bit of what to expect but the TA's graded the exam so tough and never gave feedback. Writing intensive
So far the best psych class I have taken. Topics are relevant and is supplemented with tv shows, movies, and other medias. She is very passionate about her field of research and almost always is able to answer questions. I never really had a interest for personality psychology until taking her class, I highly recommend.
This class was one of my favorites on campus. I learned so much, things that will help me get a job now that I've graduated, and made me decide on a career in CMH. Tonay keeps every class interesting and relevant to our lives and careers. Take it.
On the last day we went around saying one word to describe our experience in the seminar. People said transformative, enlightening, life-changing.
Tonay simply lectures away as the students are left to decipher what is important enough to write down. Not having a visual aid was tough for me, overall I think she could of had a better system for the class as a whole. Exams are hard, STUDY! STUDY EXAMPLES given in class! Start your paper early on.. especially part one as it is tedious.
People have mixed experiences with her, but I think she's very condescending. Uses termsacronyms she expects you to just get. Thinks she's the funniest, greatest professor, but her lecturing skills are boring. Expect bad powerpointsnotes. Also, her reading "jottings" never ask about what you read. Just some random arbitrary question.
Professor Tonay is one of the best psych professors I've had in a long time, she is funny and her lectures are easy to follow if you pay attention. There are some reading involved but not an overwhelming amount. I learned a lot in this class, would definitely take again.
Tonay is amazing! Her class is super easy but only because its very interesting material that she teaches! She discusses Dreams which was my favorite part! She responds really fast to emails and holds extra office hours a lot to help out when she can! She is very nice in person. :)
Tonay's great! Take her class if you wanna be a therapist. It wasn't really a challenging class, you just have to know the material well, do all the readings and take very good notes in class(lots of info). It's all interesting stuff. She gives you options for learning assessment. I chose tests mostly, and they were challenging and epic. She CARES.
Veronica is one of the most amazing professors in UCSC. It was truly an honor and pleasure to be in her class, and the way she opens up your mind to both theoretical knowledge and practical applications of her subject was oh god i can't take it, its pure educational bliss. Overall, an energetic genius at work. Also very approachable and friendly.
One of the most engaging professors. Loves the work she does and it shows. Helps her students to understand the work fully.
This class turned out to be terrible. Tonay stands there talking (no pwrpnt, she is very against technology) through a disorganized lecture while you try to scribble as much as possible, assigns outdated/WRONG readings that often aren't necessary, and pushes Freudian theory (which is widely not used in the field anymore). Many people struggled...
Her Personality Assessment class was very disorganized. If you wanna play the 'catch up' game throughout the hole quarter be my guest. I still Got A's on the tests and assignments, but it stressed me out more than it should have because she was late in giving information about assignments and changed things all the time.
Her tests were all essay questions and you have to write long good ones. Her class was always so interesting and very satisfying.
This class separates those looking to take a (4th) class that's not much work from those who'll work hard to get into grad school or get a job after graduation. The former hate the class & professor. The rest are so grateful to have taken this class! I learned more than in any other class by far. Caring, brilliant teacher and therapist. Amazing.
Favorite class at UCSC. You learn about how to help other people with 5 main therapy systems, and how who you are impacts that positively and negatively. As for other comments here, I hope to care as much for my clients someday as she clearly does. She respects students, doesn't talk down to us, and motivated me to study some topics on my own.
This is her last quarter at UCSC so this comment probably won't matter. The class was composed of 3 essays (one take home) and 2 short essay exams (which were difficult but a study guide so if you study that you'll be fine). To pass you must be SUPER specific in your short responses. She's pretty passive-aggressive and has no slides.
This was my last quarter before graduating, and my favorite class and professor at UCSC. She is just wise and amazing. If you want to learn, she's the one. If you want to text during class, or talk to your friends, or take a 4th class, no... I learned so much from her. She's an inspiration.
I loved Professor Tonay's class. I have nothing but great things to say about her! I wish I had taken her class sooner so that I could have taken other courses taught by her before she planned to leave UCSC. Thoroughly enjoyed the material and her bit of humor! I wish her the best and am grateful for being apart of her last quarter!
This was a hard class, but I learned so much. This is what I came to college for. She's funny, kind, totally brilliant, and I took everything she taught. When my family had to flee the fires, she checked in on us and sent us resources. She's retiring this year, and I feel sorry for students who won't be able to take a class from her! Thanks, Dr. T!
