young teacher....class is smooth
Often restates same info 3x in sucession when lecturing. Lectures follow outline type format. Tests are mild, pay attention to essay questions. Reading assignments are a MUST.

Excellent teacher. I feel I learned a great amount in her class.
Good teacher. Tells you everything you need to know, and is very clear on assignments.
Really young and knowledgeable professor. Knows what she's talking about, do the reading assigments & you'll fine. Don't fall behind. You get to watch some 40 minute video documentaries in class and have some assigments. Very reasonable. She's kinda cute!
Very helpful, knowledgeable, direct and to the point. Lectures are basic concepts and easy to follow. You learn a lot from her. Enjoyed her class a lot.
If you take any other Poli Sci instructor at OCC, you should kick yourself. Dr. Marcina is one of the few true scholars teaching at OCC. She puts a great deal of energy into her classes and will bend over backwards to help you learn.
She's very academic so be prepared to be treated as a mature adult. The lectures are great and she gives you extra credit, which is an essay about a political cartoon. The material is interesting and she's very clear but you'll have to study.
Great teacher, smart, patient, cares about her students. Personable and helpful to those who ask. Highly recommend her, one of the best teachers @ OCC!
She obviously knows her stuff. If I were to make one complaint, though, it would be some of the ambiguous questions on her tests. Even if you study, it doesn't help in that respect.
straight forward, great teacher. You must take good notes and read....then you'll get good test grades. She knows what's up and very knowledgable!! For poli sci, I would Only recommend her.
This is one of the greatest teacher I ever had. She gives great lectures, you can tell she is very devoted to her job and she enjoys educating her students. Plus, she really hot, makes you want to go to her office hours even though you don't need it.
Dr. Marcina is awesome! she is such a great person and her class is so well run and interesting that everyone should take it to improve the quality of their lives. Easy if you pay attention and work a little bit.
very smoking body
PRETTY EASY, NOT BAD TO LOOK AT.
Ms. Marcina is very clear and she knows what she is doing. Her voice is loud and clear. She gives you extra credit work, and if you do the study guide, you will pass the tests.
Ms. Marcina is a great teacher. She is very clear and knows what she is talking about. She covers everything that is on the test, and even provides a study guide before each test. She makes the class very interesting. I suggest you take her for Political Science.
Too much reading in this class but very interesting. Not an easy class
her tests are hard and she gives a lot of information. shes a good teacher and all but just a little hard with the tests.
She's awesome!! she uses powerpoint for the lectures and you can download them from her website. studyguides are given before the exams. e-mail her whenever you have questions and she will reply to you within a day! 20-point extra credits available. Take her!!
Great class. She is very fair and gives extra credit assignments. If you do the reading and go to class, you will do well. If you don't go to class it will show in your test scores. Great clear and structured lectures.
Professor Marcina is a clear cut teacher. The difficulty of the class is - moderate, however its extremely long if you take the once a week class. 3 test and 1 essay. Not bad at all
Easy class. If you study the terms she gives you on the study guide you'll be just fine. The only stress about this class is an essay that you have to write on a newspaper article. She was not very generous with the grades there. But doing the extra credit and doing well on the exams guarantees you
This class is pretty tough... But as long as you pay attention and study you'll be fine. She is very clear on what to study for and breaks things down for you if you don't understand the material... I recommend her...
Knowledgable teacher. Don't fall behind in class. Do your readings, assignments, and study or you won't do good in the class. Not an easy class.
Very intelligent woman... in depth tests, but I felt well informed
OMG she is just too formal. Everything about the class is too formal. Too 'professional' like. The best way of putting the class is calling it a 'plain jane'. Too original: the syllabus, the tests, etc. Nice woman. Good lectures. I just WISH there was some laughs/energy in the class. There isn't.
i thought she was a great teacher. seems very passionate when she gives her lectures. class is an absolute breeze. one paper all year and tests are extremely easy if you pay attention during the lectures. i didnt use my book once the entire semester and passed with a B.
she herself is a very nice person; knows well about the subject. but there is a BIG problem. her tests are nearly impossible. super-hard; I studied for a good 4 days and spent quality time reading as well. the tests questions are so "wordy" and so "ambiguous" that it frustrates the hell out of u
Really a tough class. The exams are pretty hard. You'll have to do a analytical essay. She offers extra credit: up to 20 pts.
Really a great professor-a hard class if you are an "ESL student", I guess. Got an A without even buying the books, but it was challenging. Lectures are insightful and well planned. More computer literate than most of the other instructors which helps a lot. Recommended.
Very good class and teacher. She is pretty hard and the class is based on essays but she is very helpfull. If you are a politics bff I highly recomend it. Overall it is pretty easy to get a B but you have to know a lot for an A. The class is based on discussion and she is very open minded. Great class and professor
HARD HARD HARD CLASS! TONS AND TONS OF NOTES AND READING! I HAD TO DROP THIS CLASS! The avarage grade on the first test is a "D"! She says its always the avarage! SHES A GREAT teacher and she really knows her stuff but she gets boring at times. Always willing to help though! I wouldnt recommend her though. HArd essay too! IM an A student too!
Difficult but extemely interesting. This of all classes seemed like the ideal class, in that there was a ton of information presented by an enthusiastic, knowledgable, organized instructor and her skills fueled my interest in a subject that I previously viewed as "a requirement". Excellent teacher.
DIFFICULT tests, the questions and answers are worded like the LSAT, so it makes it confusing. She's a great teacher though, very informed and answers your questions well. But this ain't no easy class. HARD!
she is a really nice lady. her lectures are nice because you print them from online so you can follow really easy. there is a lot of reading, and if you want an A you should do it, but the notes alone will pass you.
Great teacher and you will get a good foundation for political philosophy for the rest of your life. Lesson plan is linear and you will extract relevant meaning from Plato, Machiavelli, Mill, etc. This class is for people seriously interested and is discussion based. She is a great at lectures/disc though. Very helpful and insightful. essay tests.
class wasnt too bad. if you put in the work you can easily pass. she is fair but difficult test.
I've had Dr. Marcina for POLSCI 180 and 188. 188 is harder then 180. Tests are more concentrated on lectures then on readings. Do not take this class unless you are really interested in political science. This class is quite difficult to keep with, but overall I enjoyed it... I recommend taking this class for Pol Sci Majors.
she is kinnda boring but her class is an easy A or B. she gives you study guide so you don't have to study everything she goes over and you read in book. the only down side is that some of the stuff in study guide is never covered in the book or in the lecture and she goes over them just before exam. overall great teacher, gives extra credit.
she is kind of boring. the class is not an easy a or b, you have to work very hard to obtain such a grade. the tests are worded in a convuluted manner, but its cool. a neutral class. not too boring, not too fun. youll notice she likes to talk in a professional way and there's nothing wrong with that. she's more kick back during office hours.
i hated her class she was sooo boring. easy tests, easy A but i stopped attending her lectures midway. I encourage all others to do the same, just show up for the exams
i felt like poking out my eyeballs with the tip of pencil sitting through this class..
i wish vesna had a sense of humor - she's a little too formal and i DOUBT she acts like that when she goes home (lol). lighten up. crack a joke during class. her style is way too formal. she needs to joke around more during class. too "basic" and boring. other than that, she's a great instructor and helper.

somewhat interesting , while she tries to make it interesting. She is a tough grader on papers. But her tests are easy as long as you took notes and studied a little.
i hate politics and she is kinda brutal. and boring. i mean 3 hours of torture for me quite frankly. mmmh, maybe if i had studied a bit! i found it difficult. and her dull.
An okay teacher, kind of hard if you don't study material. Very boring too.
For political science majors, she is the best at OCC. Her tests are pretty tough, but she is by far the most professional Pol-Sci professor at OCC. On that note, Ragenovich is the worst Pol-Sci professor at OCC... Just for your info...
Both classes are well taught. Dry sense of humor + a PhD so it's no wonder OCC students have trouble connecting. Maybe if she pulled out a skateboard and did a rap about tattoos people would like her. Teaches like a UC prof. Take it if you want to learn. Assigns source material (not 3rd party books)
She has very tough tests, but you also learn a lot from her lectures. You have to really understand the text, if not expect to study a lot. Do not take her if you want an easy A.
DONT TAKE IT
You HAVE to keep up with reading in her class to get a passing grade. Tests are a little tricky, but she gives EC opportunities. Attendance is not a part of points, but you miss A LOT when not in class. Also, she's very smart...can't get much past her.
She thinks her class is only about writing
GREAT TEACHER. I did NOT want to take this class (never paid attention to politics), but she made it very interesting. Take good notes, pay attention in class, do extra credit, and you can do well in the class without reading. She's very clear, straightforward, and knows her stuff.
terrible teacher don't take it
her test are difficult, but she's very helpful and dedicated. there's a few extra credit opportunities.
I LOVED this class; I didn't intend on switching my major from Pre-Med to Poli. Sci. until I learned love exists in the form on Political Theory. Loved the class discussions and the reading was not pointless. Take this class if you have a love for philosophy and political science! :)
Extremely interesting class. She clearly is highly intelligent and knows her subject well. Tests are difficult and are hard to prepare for, consisting of both short and long essays. Take this class if you are serious about learning about politics and philosophy because you will learn a lot!
this class was terrible. her lectures were long, and boring. Her tests were even harder. Her monotone additude to the class made this course torture.
This class is easy if you go to class and take good notes. The teacher is not very nice and has a cold personality. She might have a chip on her shoulder..so if you need help don't take her. she is not nice and kind of rude. She acts like she is teaching at Harvard.
she's a smart teacher and knows her stuff. but no personality what so ever, unless she ask u questions, you can't discuss anything in her class. and she would be good for harvard or stanford. if u'r a poli sci major maybe take her, otherwise don't.
LOL about the Harvard comment. That is so true.
I would suggest only taking her if you are really interested in Politics. If you have no interest in pol sci, I would recommend taking someone else. Dr. Marcina is one of those "hard, but good" professors. Her classes were challenging, but in a good way. I hope that makes sense.
I remember her. She is what I call a quality instructor. Helpful. Mindful. If you want help, she'll do it (per Office Hours). Quality instructor. This is what I have to say. She's very good, but I didn't say easy. Gives you a glimpse of true hard work. Her lectures can be unbearably boring, but she's better aside from class (1 on 1).
She knows her stuff and she knows it well enough to explain it to people of all political persuasions and understandings. She keeps books CHEAP. A great teacher overall.

Vesna is a great professor. Althought her class is difficult, she is more than welcome to help out. Take her class in you're interested in the subject; you'll suffer if you're not. I'm taking her again for Poli Sci 185!
not a good teacher at all. she stands up and lectures the whole time. doesnt write notes on the board. talks so fast you have to ask her to repeat everything. the only teacher you can take for this course and she sucks. tests are super hard. doesnt tell you what its going to be on. first test two short answer essays and a 5 paragraph essay!!!

Tough class. She's knowledgable about the subject and is very helpful outside of class. Attendance is not mandatory but her notes are useful. Take good notes in class and read the book. Tests are reasonable if you know the materials. She's probably the best Pol Sci teacher at OCC. I learn a lot from her. Take her if you want to learn.
HHMM..it seems that her ratings have increasingly dropped since 04. i wondered what happened? if Politics is your major, this class is for you! for gen.ed. students, like myself, DO NOT TAKE HER!! her class VERY DIFFICULT. if this is the ONLY class you're taking, you got a good chance of passing. but i have a life, a job, and other classes.GOOD LUC
Nice woman but talks very fast in class and doesn't like repeating herself so good luck taking notes! Helpful in office hours, no homework, lots of reading. 4 tests, replaces final exam score w/lowest test score if final exam score is higher. Absolutely NO Extra Credit! Tests consist of 30 multi-choice and two essay ???'s worth 20 pts each. Don't R
Professor Marcina is very knowledgeable professor, & she's very passionate about what she teaches. I like that in her class, she wants you to evaluate political theory & see both sides. Her tests are only hard if you don't do well w/ free response exams. She only tests on the materials covered in lecture, and if u come to class & read u will do ok
Tough professor, but highly knowledgable about the material. Can talk fast at times, so you might want to not have rusty wrists going into the class. Tests are pretty straight forward and to the point. Lots of reading in the book to prepare for the test. Not too bad to look at either.
Very hard to follow especially if your not into politics stands in front of class and barely writes any notes. When she does everything is abreviated.Talks very fast.3 tests with essay questions she gives in advance.About 8 essay questions and only picks 2.Final exam (cumulitive)has no essay questions.Horrible teaching style if your a visual learner
worst teacher ever... tests are horrible. two essays, thesis and everything. doesnt teach just reads from the book. almost impossible to do decent in her class. and the worst part is she is the only teacher that teaches 185 and 188 so you have to take her. i would go to another school if i knew what i was going to be in for. DONT TAKE HER!!
Don't take this class if you don't enjoy political science. She helps you prepare for upper level courses at a university with the way she teaches. Her tests were all essay, but she lets you choose from a few questions. The book she chooses is clear and she follows her syllabus well. And her lectures are extremely helpful, so go to class.
I graduated from UCI and took a class at OCC. I sat in a few minutes on one of her OCC classes, as I have taken her course at UCI. For all you OCC students who complain she is boring---you may be right---but take this as good practice for university courses. The work required for this class is similar to that at a typical UC. Get used to it
Worst teaching style ever. It's just simple as that, don't take her.
Marcina is an amazing teacher, and if you want to get a preview of what a university-level class is like, you should take her. She is detailed in her lectures and she is very helpful when you go to her office hours. For those who think she is a horrible teacher...you're no where near ready to be in college.
one thing that is hard about this class is the reading though, there is a lot of it and sometimes had to read twice in order to understand what the book was saying.I got an F on the first test (wasn't used to her teaching style b/c it was my 1st year in college)then worked my ass off the rest of the course (read everything she assinged)and got a B+
don't know why people saying her talking fast, i'm telling you english is my 2nd language and i managed to write down everything she said (learn how to take notes, people!) She will answer all of your questions and is extremely helpful during her office hours. Continue reading the below comments...
She's one the toughest professor for an intro class, but her style of teaching and testing is very helpful for those who want to transfer to any UC or CSU. ALWAYS check syllabus for reading assignments because she won't remind you; the reading material is a must because it will be on the exams! Study hard and don't give up!
Great professor. Very educated. Tips to success in her class: take extremely good notes, take use of the study guides, do the readings, study hard and you'll do fine. Although her class was extremely difficult, I'm glad I took it.
she's not a hard teacher. she specifically tells you what she wants. if you're a lazy student who expects to fly by do not take her. usually students taking her class are polsci majors and if you plan on going to a UC or CSU her style will prepare you for it.
She was really hard actually, all written exams. However, she was extremely fair in her choice of questions for the exam and she doesn't give out any mindless, boring, busy-work homework. I'd say you could skip a few (and only a few) classes if you read the book which is a fairly small size. Her lectures aren't boring, unless you just hate learning.
I liked her.. Her lectures are very interesting and easy to follow along and take notes on. I was never bored in class. She gives you study guides and essay questions for the test ahead of time. Her tests are a bit challenging, but not hard if you study. She is nice and very helpful if you have any questions. I would recommend her.
She is very fair and very knowledgeable. There no surprises. Come to class and pay attention. Participate in lectures and do the reading. Its that simple. She knows what she is talking about and her outlines are very helpful. Shes also not bad to look at.
I took this class years ago when it was 1st offered at OCC. She was tough then, as she is apparently is still now. One of the BEST PS prof @ OCC - she really prepares you for a REAL university like UCI, which she also teaches at, unlike most of the "poli. sci." professors @ OCC. I plan to take more classes w/ her @ UCI if I need them.
do not recommend! her lectures are boring and notes are short. study guides were a waste of my time.
Dont take!her class differnt than other psci teacher. She talks more about cases than anything else, thats all she talks about. Her exam are hard and she isnt clear on whats on them or not, even her lectures are hard to follow. I dropped and went to a different teacher and got an A in hers i was failing and had to drop.Get other teacher for psci
i don't recommend taking her unless you really want to work for your grade. She is very fair, very knowledgeable, very good at what she does. Her classes on the other hand are a lot of reading and you really have to be on top of your notes and etc. No busy work, all blue book type exams, an assignment or two. But she's really nice and interesting.
Very difficult. She teaches this class as if she is teaching at Harvard or Stanford and not at a community college.
She is a passionate and extremely intellectual person. Her class is difficult. I would not suggest taking this class unless you are prepared to work VERY hard.
This class IS HARD, but worth it! she is a good teacher, but expects a lot from you. Expect to set aside at least a few hours a week just for the readings. She does want her students to learn and if you go to her office she is really helpful. The lectures can be dry but it's a pretty dry subject. (and she's TOTALLY hot! woohooo)
GREAT teacher. She's intelligent, clear, very organized, and gives really good examples so everyone can understand the terms. Be sure to take very good notes, you will learn a lot from this class and there's no extra credit: you gotta EARN your grade!
Attend her lectures, read the text, and study. She's extremely knowledgeable about her stuff. Ask questions and she'll be gladly to explain. She does have her own view and is a very strong woman so try to have a debate with her =D. Plus she's very attractive. ;)
She was my favorite professor this semester. She is very knowledgeable and doesn't lecture AT you. She tries to promote class participation and will answer any class questions. A lot of reading and no extra credit but if you take good notes you should have no problems at all.
If you actually want your mind to be challenged, and to learn substantial and meaningful material, you should take Vesna's class. She is incredibly articulate in her lectures and she genuinely cares about you learning the material. If you are lazy, want as easy A, and don't care about growing as a person, you shouldn't take this class :)
Not an "easy" teacher. Exams have written response parts where she looks for specifics. No generalities, which killed me on the first one. Very knowledgeable of course. Answer and explain all questions. Would recommend to anyone, unless they dont like attending class.
she explains the contents very well, loves her profession. Her tests is like a gamble you don't know what questions you get. screwed me over. hw is a cinch its just a bunch of reading assignments. gives you a study guide 2 weeks prior to the test. overall she's chill.
She is a very tough professor. I took her honors theory course and had to study my @#$ off just to pass. Hardest honors course I've taken at OCC. She is helpful with office hours if you need it. YOU MUST READ THE BOOK! Tests are blue book and require you to identify quotes from the text to the theorist (trust me its hard). Take if you have to only
The best prof. at OCC, hands down. She is challenging and has high expectations, but they are no higher than those of a standard class at a four-year institution. She is intelligent, clear, patient, and fair. You will come out of her class having LEARNED the material. Don't let her scare you off the first day. She really cares about students.
Harder than most upper division/honors. Must show up and take good notes. Tests are blue book essay format. You most certainly have to work for a passing grade. Only 1 or 2 homework assignments and 3 midterms and 1 cumulative final (drops ur lowest midterm and doubles ur final exam grade if its higher than lowest midterm). Take only if you must!
She is challenging, but helpful. Seeing her in office hours made all the difference for me. She can be scary on the first day, but she treats you like a college student not a high school student, which is refreshing. I am on the border line of getting an A. She genuinely cares about the students who make an effort to see her during office hrs.
Vesna's great. She's not the kind of teacher that'll actively joke in class, but she's witty. Multiple choice part is easy if you can remember basic info but the in-class essays are nerve-racking. Practice, practice, practice and A is possible. No essay on the final, thank God!
She's very challenging but is more than willing to help you become a better student. I highly recommend her class if you are going to transfer to a university.
Vesna's class is not for everyone. I will tell you she is an amazing professor, I hated her in the first class. After the second week I was so thankful I stayed in her class. She will make sure you know how the gov. works by the time you are out of the course. Not for the lazy! She is an AMAZING professor. Take her if you are willing to learn!!!
these ratings scared me at first but I think passing the class isn't hard. Her class makes me sleep but multi. choice questions on exam are pretty easy. Practice free responses on the study guide because she chooses two of them for the exam. drops lowest midterm thank god. showed up 2 class 75% of the time, barely read/last min studying and got a B
She scares off the weak & faint hearted after the 1st class & 1st exam, but stick with it! I never even knew I was interested in this field until I took her class. You MUST study and know how to write & articulate your thoughts. I learned SO much in her class & it felt good to be challenged, it made the grade that much more rewarding! GREAT teache
Horrible!! She's so boring..with no personality. Just a waste of my time! I would definitaly take another teacher for this class! Your entire grade is off 3 exams..and no extra credit. Trust me skip taking this lady!
Marcina's class was very insightful. Being a political science major, i got alot of of this class. She's pretty tough when it comes to exams because you have NO CLUE what is gonna be on it exactly. You pretty much should know the majority of the stuff from the readings and class notes. If you're going to fail to prepare, then don't take her class.
I transferred to the UC and have bad news: the majority of OCC classes DO NOT prepare you. That's sad, because community colleges are supposed to give everybody access to a great education, not to mention prepare folks to transfer. Vesna's classes are exceptions, showing she cares. Don't be like these slugs, challenge yourself. She will help you.
This was a refreshing class, taught just how a college level class should be taught. I've always had an interest in American Government so paying attention was easy for me. Her teaching style meshed well with my learning style. She is very clear on what is expected from you. I honestly did not find her class exceedingly difficult but many did.
Helpful and clear when explaining. Is a tough grader but gives you opportunities to improve your in-class writings. Also, exams are difficult because if you mess up on one portion you are basically screwed. Interesting teacher with great insight. She only offers one class, though I wish she would offer more.
Hard, but fair. If you take good notes, pay attention in class, and answer (not bs) the questions asked on tests, you will be fine. She is pretty intimidating the first two weeks in class, but only to root out the students who will not work hard. Overall, excellent!
I truly enjoyed taking this class with this professor. While the material was by no means easy, she covered every topic in a clear and organized way. Marcina is a high quality professor and I am so glad I took her class!
I took Marcina for comparative politics and have concluded she was one of the best professors I ever had. Though her class is not easy, you will walk away away with an enormous amount of international political knowledge, which I loved as a polisci major. This class is not for the weak, but it will prepare you for transfer. I HIGHLY recommend.
Pretty Straight forward, @ OCC PSCI 180 is 4 midterms and a final. midterms are 30 multiple choice and 2 short essays out of four possible essay questions. final is multi choice. uses a free book so no cost there. minimal studying is needed for a B, need to spend a few hours per test for an A
She is a great teacher. Very clear on the material. Does what she can to help out her students. There is alot of reading though and you need to do the reading to at least get a b on the tests. But overall it was a great class
this teacher was so hard for me to understand. took her in the summer and she made the class harder than it really is. i felt she wasn't really looking to help students even though i went to her office hours. I dropped the class due to the unhelpful behavior, its ALL READING. i can't teach myself so if you can this is for you. No powerpoint notes!
No powerpoint she just lectures but she explains the material very well! She talks fast when she's in to the topicmaterial so write quick! Grade is based on 3 exams and 1 assignment split into 2 parts. Take good notes and study, study, study hard!
Fantastic class. You must have great note taking skills to keep up w Vesna. No powerpoints to rely on. Grade is 3 tests (30 mult & 2 free response). Refreshingly challenging honors course but doable if you are willing to put in the effort and listen: she is very clear re: her expectations. Take use of her office hours & don't expect to miss class!
Wrote "acquiesce" in an essay and she commented "wc" for "wordchoice". Not sure if she believes that college students cannot possess commanding vocabulary or if an assumption was made. At any rate, I question the questioning of my word choice.
Vesna is an excellent professor. She commands respect in the classroom while maintaining a conversational, comfortable, seminar-style lecture. It can be dry material, but she knows it forward and back, so ask questions and she will discuss. Her tests are straightforward but difficult, the reading isn't crucial if you attend class.
good class. just got test back. not hard if you study the study guide. she gives you the essay questions on it. a couple of students got f, i don't know how they did that with the study questions. class is not easy, not hard, if you study. free book.
Worst online class ever. A lot of reading from the textbook that clearly didn't help me for my exams. Your grade is based off from 3 exams one of each consist of 30 questions and 2 written response. Most of the questions are pretty unfair because her lecture notes clearly states the answers and still got it wrong on the question.
Vesna is so awesome. She knows her stuff, and she makes lectures about American government as enjoyable as it could be. Three tests, 2 midterms and 1 final. 100 pts each. Just show up to class, study, and follow the study guides and you'll do great! We also use a free textbook online
10/10. She is an extremely educated woman. This is a class that I was able to gather knowledge and apply it outside the classroom. I learned so much about the American government and there was plenty of healthy debate in the class. I'm not a political science major but if I had to take another class hands down I would take Vesna!
With no other choice, I took an honor class with her. It was hard but so interesting and helpful to me. She was straightforward, fair, responsible, and ready to help serious students. We had 2 midterms and 1 final. The score for the final, if higher, will replace the lowest midterm. I am a fourth-year immigrant but managed to get an A.
Go to her lectures & take notes. Take advantage of the study guides. Fill it out in advance & show her your free response questions before the exam to be sure that you are correctly answering the questions. Pay attention to the verb choice in her FRQs. If it asks you to, "explain," then explain. Actually follow the directions.
She is a great teacher. She is there to teach and help you. I wish I had taken her in my first semester of college or better yet there were other professors that taught similarly to her.
Probably the best professor at OCC. She's effective without being in your face or loud, she just seems intelligent and assertive. Highly respectable. She's also extremely unbiased. She teaches high level political study, but she starts from the beginning. I wasn't a poli-sci major but she gives you all the materials you need to get an A.
She's extremely smart and knows what she is talking about. This class is very difficult for most and would recommend office hours. Tests and reading responses determine grade.
Extremely knowledgeable and makes the lectures even on boring material fun. Come to class, take good notes, read the textbook for the exams. The study guides for the exams are very straight forward, there are no trick questions, and Vesna is very clear in her expectations. Just a wonderful professor!
You must study for her tests or you won't pass! You have to take clear and good notes, which require you to come to class as she doesn't lecture with powerpoint only with talking!!! YOU MUST PUT IN THE WORK!! DONT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE A SLACKER AND ARENT READY FOR THE UC LEVEL!
The usual for a GE humanities class. Lectures' get pretty slow eventually, but hey it's polisci, what do you expect? Tests have multiple choice and two essay questions, but you get a list of possible essay questions before the exam. Grades those pretty tough, so you need to know what you are doing to get that A.
Tough Grader, lots of reading, I had over 30 pages of midterm/final study notes. Make to read! Take notes and study study study! She is not easy. BUT she is extremely knowledgeable, I learned a lot, but did not reflect my grade, which sucks for GPA. She would not be my first choice if you have a life outside of college.
The most rudest professor I have ever had. She is very moody and entitled. She will ignore you and give a very bland uninterested answer to your questions. I guess I understand why she's mean, she is a community college professor.
Don't take the class if English is not your first language. The study guide is useless, it's all topic points so basically it's whole book, she does not specific tell what part will be on the exam, it's all topic points. The exam asks you very detail examples and stuffs. It't not an easy class. Don't take her unless you have no choice. Trust me!!
Probably one of my favorite classes at OCC just b/c Vesna Marcina knows her Gov. Like, it's crazy how much she knows. Could be making up facts the whole time but I wouldn't know the difference. Class was kind of intimidating- 3 HARD tests, but she gives you a study guide and FRQ questions in advance. Go to class!! No powerpoints, take notes!
Very clear grading standards and lectures. Her study guides tell you what is exactly going to be tested on. Her tests were half multiple choice, half written. As long as you do the readings, you will get an A.
Now that I am at a 4 year university, I realize how much Vesna did to prepare me. Everything she does has a purpose. I learned the fundamentals so well from her. Word of advice, go out of your way and get into study groups, I took 2 of her classes and the one that I studied for with my peers was way easier.
She talks the entire time and tells you to read the textbook. Doesnt go through a lot just barely touches bases on it and expects you to understand tough language. This class didnt allow for you to really grasp and understand whats happening. Im a polisci major and she made me hate basic government. I would never recommend this teacher.
Honestly even as I sit in my UC class I can't stop thanking Vesna. She builds such a good base. Do the work.. Theory class is def harder but that was because I talked to people in her comparative class. Make study groups they are crucial!!!
Vesna is an amazing professor and I recommend everyone take her! She is a very hard grader, but if you show up to class and take great notes, you'll be able to do well. She definitely prepared me for when I transfer to university. If you have any questions about the material, she is always willing to answer them in class, or during office hours.
I took her Honors American Gov class. She's a solid professor who explains the material well and answers questions whenever needed. Her Honors American Gov class is one of the hardest I've ever taken: weekly readings and class attendance are not required, but you won't do well without them. I put in a lot of work, but I learned a lot.
Vesna is the best prof at OCC. She is very intelligent and her lectures are insightful. There's 3 tests. They're part multiple choice part FRQ. She provides you with a study guide as well. If you score higher on the final exam it will replace one of your first two exams. There's discussion Q's for HW every other week based on articles we read.
Class is pretty easy if you take good notes. Do the homework, it will help you with your grade at the end.
I took Vesna during summer and she tells you exactly what to expect on the first day. For our class we had 6 weekly online assignments (very easy) 2 quizzes and 2 exams. Quizzes were not hard. Exams were difficult and timed. 1st exam had 25 questions. 2nd has 30 questions. Final was cumulative. Everything was online which was pretty nice.
I took Vesna this summer & glad I did. Class had over 110 & class size was the only thing I didn't like. She's accessible outside class however(online) & gives good feedback! Very intelligent prof. By taking her class, even as an immigrant, I effectively learned abt US Govt and bcame even more interested in PolSci. Hope to take her other classes-RB
Worst teacher I've ever witnessed! Poor communicator. Her test questions are nowhere to be found to study from the book or her lectures. Ice cold, dead pan cadence to her speech. Likes to ask: "Questions, Comments" then replies with blank stare, no response, moves on. No community input with students. Choose anyone else if you can, waste of time.
Vesna is easily one of the best professors at OCC if you are serious about political science then you can't afford to not take her class. The class is challenging but fair and as long as you do the readings and are paying attention during the lectures you will be fine. She provides in-depth study guides before tests and is always available to meet.
Hardest but best class EVER. If you love politics, philosophy, learning, & being challenged by an incredible teacher this is the class for you. I learned so much in this class. Her grading is intense, but you will know whats required to improve. Do not take this class while taking an equally difficult class if you also work/have kids.
I took the class this summer. She made expectations were very clear. Go to class and do the reading responses, and you will do well. There is a midterm and final exam that are weighted heavily. She is fair, caring and even sends out little motivational notes for encouragement. She is one of the better teachers at OCC. I recommend her.
2 midterms and 1 final with proctor, each is 50 points. 50 points for every week discussion. 1 test contains 30 multiple choices, and 2 short answer that shouldn't be short at all. The discussions are okay, but the test are extremely hard. The final is cumulative. I don't recommend this class for anyone that is not a psci major.
Vesna is one of my favorite professors at OCC. Youll have 3 tests with 30 multiple choices questions and 2 questions where you have to write a long answer. Comparative politics wont be your hardest class if you do the readings and the assignments on time. Vesna is really intelligent and youll fall in love with PSCI because of her lectures.
Vesna is an amazing professor!! You will definitely have to work to get an A in her class but it's not impossible. Her tests are very straight forward and there are no surprise questions. If you pay attention in class, read the textbook, DO THE STUDY GUIDE, and utilize her office hours, there's no reason why you shouldn't do good in her class.
I took her class this summer during the pandemic. In the beginning, she sounds nice and helpful but throughout the class, I was so disappointed. Poorly prepared materials (online sources), ambiguous test questions, not clear grading. She isn't a tough grader in its pure meaning, she is too petty and picky. The way she grades is so annoying! Yuck!
I took Professor Marcina's American Government class over the summer and it was a loooooot of work. If you are looking for an easy A, this is definitely not the class for you. Spent hours each week reading, viewing lectures, and studying. If you complete the assignments exactly as the grading rubric says you will get a good grade. Good luck!
makes you use this application that RECORDS YOU WHILE TEST TAKING. you also have to scan your surroundings and everything. so uncomfortable and such an invasion of privacy. i dont feel comfortable in her class at all. dont take her guys!
Her tests consist of six true and false questions with explanations, and then one 3 paragraph question. She does not care about your answer as she will nitpick the smallest things deducting more than half the points on the question. She says not to become one sided yet she is picky about everything we write even if the material is right. Terrible.
I dont know where all of the bad reviews are coming from, however, I do know that in order to pass the class you have to work for it. Professor Marcina is always very helpful and fair. Her tests allow students to use critical thinking skills which prepare us once we transfer. I dont regret taking her at all.
She ensures that we really dive deep with the material by enhancing our critical thinking skills. Though she has her political leanings that arise she allows us to share our views. 3 exams (50 pts each) with 5 discussions (10pts). exams are 1 FRQ & 6 T/F. She's nit picky on ur answers so be as accurate as possible. This class preps u for transfer
Prof. Marcina is very well educated on the subject of American Government. If you have taken Poli Sci or a Gov. class in high school, this class is basically an extension. Class is all lectures, so be ready to take notes! She posts all the notes on canvas everyday. Class is graded by discussions and exams on Proctorio. Highly recommend this class!
Prof. Marcina is an truly intellectual presence at OCC. She is also crystal clear on the assignment, class policy, grading and everything else. The amount of work required for this class is relatively low compared to other honor classes. Study guide is provided for every exam. It is entirely possible to get full mark on every exam by study guide .
she gives tons and tons of reading on TOP of the book reading that we already have every week. her study guides and midterms are generally not too bad but you do have to make sure you put in intricate details to be graded well.
Really unfair on how your assignment would be graded. Even you cover and understand all of the material, youd still be graded poorly just based on little thing. I dont think she respect students point of view on political. Not bias, would never recommend!
I didn't necessarily like this class but I didn't also really love it either. A lot of discussion board posts almost every other week and read a lot out of the textbook too. The lectures were also mostly out of the book too, just summarized. She grades mostly by the 3 exams that we have all semester but they're open note.
Vesna is a very good and clear professor. She specifically states what she expects from you for every exam and assignment. She is a fair grader. However, her classes are always 100 % lectures, and nothing else which gets kind of old. From the start of the class to the end it is nothing but lectures. Make sure to keep up with the reading!
This teacher posts NO video lectures. Basically she wants you to read a textbook and her text posts and expects you to learn and do well that way. Her tests are insane needing explanations for every answer, no multiple choice. Please do yourself a favor and pick a different professor and save yourself the money.
Barely taught anything. The class was taught with a series of crash course videos and mind numbing text book chapters instead of actually engaging with the class. Despite this, the tests covered an incredible amount of information just to be six free response questions. Overall, an awful experience.
The class materials consists of dozens upon dozens of PBS/crash course videos and reading out of the textbook. Discussion posts are an easy way to get points. Written answers only on quizzes/tests.
Professor Marcina is a solid choice. Even though the class is online you can always ask for help and she is happy to help you. The exams are hard since it is all FRQ and no multiple choice, but luckily they are open book. You really need to prepare and study for this class to earn an A. She gives a lot of extra credit too.
Vesna is a great professor and she encourages critical thinking and asks questions that require a lot of thinking in order to answer correctly. Being a political science class, there's bound to be lots of debate and disagreements, but Vesna tries really hard to keep the class civil and respectful. The tests aren't easy, but they're not hard either.
Quite the standard class. Pay attention to lectures and take notes and you'll be fine. Weekly discussion posts, exams are not multiple choice but are self explanatory with a glance through your notes. She can drone on in her lectures, but she sticks to the agenda like a fly on a trap. You get what you put out.
Total of 7 discussions, one quiz, one midterm, and the final. There was a discussion every other week which was super easy. Do not really need to study to get a good grade on the discussions. Hard grader for midterm. Need to be very specific in answers. The midterm affects grade a lot since there is not much else to look at for grades.
Great professor that is very knowledgeable in Poli Sci. Interesting lectures. You're graded on mostly a quiz, a midterm, and a final. VERY tough grader (I don't think anyone received a perfect score on the midterm or final). Discussion boards are also part of your grade but mostly there to cushion a bad grade.
I don't like this person. Her slide is tiny so I always have to take photos and take notes with it. She said we had 5 points extra credit but it is actually nothing You can get one point if you find any error on canvas. If you want to get all points, you have to find 5 errors online. I will definitely drop this if I don't have to take it.
Her online class is hard because of the materials, not really because of her. She always gives you the questions that will be in the exams one week before to prepare. But I only managed to get 87% in her class because the exams are too hard even though I know the questions one week before lol.
Loved Professor Vesna! She really wants you to learn and is so incredibly intelligent and passionate about what she teaches! Although the reading may be heavy at times, it's interesting and fun. There's little extra credit but they are extremely accessible and you should take advantage of EVERY. SINGLE. POINT. Be DETAILED and SPECIFIC in your tests
The pacing of the class is slow. It's very important to attend all lectures and take notes. Do what she asks- do the readings and listen to feedback on exams. The exams are tricky because she gives you 6 essay prompts, and the exam will be on 2 of the 6. However, if you've done your readings and came to class, you'll do just fine.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but go to the lectures- if you take notes you probably won't have to open the textbook too much. The tests are paragraph responses, but it's straightforward to study. If you do the discussion posts (the only homework) every other week, B tests can make an A grade. Very nice, reasonable teacher and you'll learn a lot.
She is tough grader. Dont expect for extra credits. You will be graded with discussions, one quiz, midterm and final. You don't have many chances to make up for your tests.
Lots of options for extra credit and the lectures are relatively well organized. She drops your lowest midterm and is super accessible to questions. My only problem was her lectures can be slow and repetitive but otherwise I liked her.
She limits to 5 extra credits for grammar mistakes. No rounding up grades and so if you messed up on one of the midterm or finals that would probably be your final grade even if you participate 100% on other assignments. Lots of self-learning. Reevaluation is needed.
I bet you she couldn't pass her own tests. Wants an entire essay written in 20 minutes, delusional. Then, the condescending comments. Its pretty audacious to grade so hard on tests for material she barely, hardly teaches. If you are cold to people and outsource your teaching to Hank Green youtube videos then you should not be a professor.
Awful. I wish I would of looked her up before I took her class. This is my warning. Trust me
Made up of Craig Benzine videos. My other 3 unit classes combined take less amount of time weekly. When it comes to the "quizzes" you only have 20 minutes to write several paragraphs from a roulette of 3 possible prompts, meaning you have to write all 3 anyway ahead of time for no grade. Her feedback often comes off as rude. Would never take again
A tough grader for no reason and lectures are unhelpful and unrelated to the exams. She mainly relies on online content outside of class that she does not talk about so going to class feels pointless. Harsh grader with vague and subjective feedback. Similar to teachers in high school who would say "I'm tough on you to prepare you for college"
If you do not have hours/days to dedicate to this class DO NOT TAKE IT. Buying the $80 textbook is a necessity, would recommend attending the lecture no matter how boring it is. 3 exams with 2 essay questions each that make up a good portion of your grade. Be prepared to study!
comments on her feedback are pretty condescending and she's pretty rude. the midterm and exam will give you a headache she has 6 questions and requires a 3-4 paragraph essay for each written in 20 minutes for the midterm and 40 minutes for the exam which are randomly selected by canvas. ITS INSANE. it's so much for a general education class.
She is insanely hard on students when it comes to exams. 2 midterms and a final and each requires you memorize 6 essay questions and your answers which should be roughly 1 1/2 - 2 pages long each, and hand-written in class. I thought she was a great professor and really educated so no complaints there but the grading is kinda harsh.
the second semester taking her and still could not get an A - very very harsh grader. if you got a c on the first test you will get c's for the rest of the semester. I will not take her again - she is a great teacher but my GPA is suffering - and i recommend you avoid her as much as possible
I have taken her before and also got a B last semester as well. No matter how much extra credit I did, it felt futile even trying to get an A in her class. I feel bad giving her such a low score but she obviously didn't afford me the same sympathy when grading me so.
The professor has a specific teaching style, but engaging with it can be rewarding. Attend lectures, use the free textbook, and try resources like Unstuck ai to prepare. The exams are challenging, but the class is manageable with diligence.
read ALL the material given, attend ALL lectures, participate, and go to office hours. took three tries but i finally got the A!!!!
Really interesting class content wise and the way it was taught (weekly readings, usually case law, that relate to what we're talking about) really added to that. She is super strict about her no technology policy, so make sure you have a notebook and are ready to take notes during lecture.
already dislike this professor will update at the end of it .
She is super nice and teaches very well. Office hours are mandatory, 3 if you want an A, she will drop your grade to a B if you only went to 2. Homework and daily assignments are the things that contribute to your grade. Take notes in every lecture, write down basically everything she says and you'll do fine on the daily assignments.
Homework and daily assignments are what contribute to your grade but it is super easy. Her lectures and very easy to understand.
Fantastic professor, would gladly take all of her classes again. Easy and clear requirements, great teaching and lectures.
She is rigid with deadlines and isn't flexibile, even in dire situations. She is unwilling to work with students going through difficult times. If you want professors that value their students wellbeing I recommend looking elsewhere. The material was fine otherwise, it's just annoying you have to pay for an entire textbook for a 5 week course.
Took this course over summer; highly recommend! Workload is manageable, and the professor is clear on expectations. Heads-up: you can't use A.I. to get by; she checks and reports it. Saw a few people get disciplined. Do the work yourself, and you'll be fine. Easy A if you stay on track and try.
