Great professor and very knowledgeable. She knows what she is talking about and loves to teach. She is also respectful to the other students and their opinions. Her exams are very close to the study guide that she gives so I recommend doing that. I really enjoyed her class and her opinions.

Lectures are interesting, but get sidetracked. Lots of class interaction. Can get redundant, but you get the point she's making. Test are straight from the reading/text word for word. She gives a GREAT study guide. Test are usually online and openbook. Spend time on the study guide, you'll get an A. You'll learn alot, good teacher, easy A.

Took online intimate relationships class. Had to post weekly, write 2-papers. Not a hard class, no textbooks, only a reader. Interesting reader w/great articles.

Took as an online class. Not a lot of work, but there is some reading to do. Do the work as required, ask questions if you have any (the professor is quick to respond), and you will do well.

This is my favorite professor this quarter!! So far, I've learned so much in our prejudice and discrimination class. She keeps the class entertained and we learn at the same time. She is very helpful and overall its an easy class if you just show up!!

Alright guys let me clear up some stuff about this professor. 1 HW discussion boards are only once a week and about a paragraph long. 2 The MIDTERM and FINAL are ONLINE so you take it at HOME. 3 Easy group presentation 4 Paper is written in a GROUP and FYI give her plenty of rough drafts for feedback or you might be doing it wrong. Ask for help.

I have taken Professor Puri for 3 quarters now. She is a great teacher who is extremely interested in injustice and government policies. She can get off topic and often her classes are controversial but the course work is pretty easy as long as you stay on it. There are 2 discussion boards, a midterm, a final exam, a group presentation and paper.

Recommend students to take this professor. Topics during the courses I have had her were very insightful. She is helpful, interesting, and fair. You would have to be mentally ill not to past. Lastly, Prof. Puri is down to earth but does mean business. Assignments not hard if interested.

This was an excellent class. The topics covered were very didactic, as well as debatable. If your looking for an easy class to challenge your thinking then you've gotta take this class. Professor Puri makes herself available during office hours or through emails, and goes the distance to help each student succeed.

This instructor seems to enjoy what she is teaching, and in show in the compassion. She wants her students to participate and do their best in engaging in subject at hand with respect to the diversity of cultures in the class setting.

This class was truly inspirational and knowledgeable. Professor Puri was wonderful! If you come to class, participate in the lectures, and do all the assignments you will be rewarded!!!

Vibha Puri is a very kind and knowledgeable instructor. She has an intense passion and a great sense of humor. I think some students were more used to a dry lecture, and she challenges conversation and causes you to figure out your own views. When myself and a few other students had problems, she was very helpful and compassionate.

Felt more like an English class and not HDEV. No lectures provided. Learned solely from textbook. Last day to drop class was 116, 1st grade posted was 223, so don't expect to know where you stand until finals week. No feedback on content of any assignments. Only feedback is re: grammatical errors. 3 of 5 assgn. weren't graded until the last day.

Very funny. Gives a midterm and final, both with study guides. One group project, with a 10 page paper that you all do together (groups of 5). attendance matters, really enjoyed her sense of humor.

Professor Puri is awesome!! Really good sense of humor and a fair grader. Expect to do A LOT of reading as everything that is assigned to read will be on the test. I would take her again for sure.

This is my 3rd time taking Viha and I've really grown to like and respect her. You will have tests (she gives you a study guide with pg#s of where to find the answers and its online!), discussion boards, a group presentation and paper which will ruin your life if you get the wrong people but she's funny and if you engage and do the work its an A!

I love professor Puri. I think that she is tough but fair. She wants her students to succeed. Her lectures really resonate with you and you leave her class better informed than when you came. She opens up a whole new world of thought provoking scenarios about the world in which we live. She goes out of her way to be helpful.

As a woman, I felt empowered by the her course content and lectures. Read the articles before class. She pays attention to body language and your participation. Start on the paper early and go to her office hours for valuable feedback on your topic/paper. Her statements may be hard to accept but she makes valid points. I really enjoyed her class.

Very Inspirational and unlike a lot of classes i've taken before, i really learned a lot from her and she will prepare you for your future. Very open for office hours and very interesting topics that capture your attention in the best positive ways. A real JOY.

Take her class. I enjoyed her personal stories and experiences that she tells in accordance to whatever topic we are discussing. Sometimes she gets disorganized re: schedules, but don't worry, just email or let her know and she will correct it. Awesome and brilliant Professor!!!!

I have 2 classes with her Soc Theory & Juveniles. She is amazing, respects ur views, help U with Ur paper to move to the right direction, makes the lectures interesting & adds lots of fun. If you are a SOC major theory is required. Dr. Puri is highly recommended because she helps you relate theory to your every day life which helps you understand the text and concepts of the theorist. The reading is very complex however she will break it down in her lectures and ensure that you understand.

She pays attention to attendance. She get's A+ for being passionate about lectures. She's very connected to student/life balance and flexible with due dates. I failed the midterm (abstract philosophy is not my thing) but got an A on the group paper which was the final. She does make you work but it's because she cares if your engaged in the class.

Just took her class. She is a perfect teacher that hard to find. Helping us a lot and guide us passionately. Looks easy A if listen to her. Hope she was teaching all the classes.

Follow her instructions and you'll get an A. You have to be thick skinned to get along with her though because her emails and announcements can come off as harsh but she means well. Topics are interesting and assignments are due every other week. One paper the rest is just bb posts and responses

Professor Puri is very particular in her assignments. It can seem overwhelming in the beginning but it is ok. There are 2 weeks in between every assignment and one research paper but if you watch the movie assigned and read the assigned articles you will pass it is not as hard as it seems! Content is actually interesting!

I don't know why Professor Puri has such bad reviews. I think she is very passionate about what she teaches. I enjoy how she inculcates every day life in all of her lecture topics and refers to present issues to help explain. She is a very easy going professor, she just wants you to put effort in all assignments and to show interest. Take her!

She is hands down.. sugar, spice and just the right amount of nice. If you fail or get lower than a C you tried to fail. lol Not a too much work at all it is the right amount of work no stress!! HONESTLY, I think all the "Awful" or bad reviews are from like other profs that must like have no one in their office hours. seriously tho she's awesome!!

Ms. Puri is the best professor at Cal State. She understands that life happenings and she works with you to make sure you pass her classes. Her lectures are amazing Through her lectures are heavy she makes them fun and exciting! and she does require a lot of writing however, it's because she wants her student to be prepared for their careers.

I read so many bad reviews about Professor Puri and I wanted to set the record straight. This teacher is not a difficult grader. Make sure to follow the instruction as in the syllabus. I am not a strong writer but always made an effort to follow instructions. She's not super tech savvy, but if you follow the participation and syllabus you'll be ok.

Puri is a great professor. I took her class this Summer and she's the best summer professor out there. Although she may seem like she expects a lot out of the discussions or paper, as long as you follow the instructions, there's no way how you could get less than satisfactory in the course. Do the readings and you should be fine.

I was not to sure about taking this professor at first. As long as you follow her guidelines on homework and essays you will have an A in the class.

Group projects, sometimes good sometimes bad. At times she has final reviews in which you should be present because if she is in a good mood (which is most of the time) she will give out a few answers. I enjoyed her class, took 2 classes the same quarter and a second time.

An amazing professor that I would recommend to anyone. She gives good feedback and allows for re-submission of assignment for improved grade. Lectures are interactive with real examples that are easy to understand. This was an evening class that met once a week so attendance was paramount. Follow instructions and you'll get a good grade.

Professor Puri is great how she thought her class. She expects you to learn by doing all the assignments. One thing I have to say is, her teaching is more focused on for students to see the world in a different perspective than what you know/believe. I took her two classes, my way of thinking had changed in many ways. You will learn how to write.

Professor Puri is committed to her student's success. This course is not an easy A, but if you keep up with readings, follow instructions, and reach out to her for help, you're sure to succeed. Lectures are heavy and there's a lot of reading. Get ready to work in a group as you'll be presenting and writing a term paper with one.

Ms. Puri is a wonderful teacher. She is always willing to help those who are serious about their work. Reading is essential in this class as that is what the class lecture will be about. All of the work done in this class is related to the readings. If you are not serious about your education, this class is not for you!

Professor Puri is my favorite professor so far at CSUEB. She speaks fast, but each statement is golden. Professor Puri changed the way I view the world.

It is common for students to take Puri for multiple classes, and for good reason. She adds a new perspective to the sociological imagination. The assigned textbooks were insightful and practical. Keep up with the readings because they will be featured on the exams. Also be prepared to work on a group paper. She is definitely one of my faves! <3

GREAT subject, but she is a harsh grader. know your APA citations!! the articles are fairly long and the textbook IS used for the discussion boards (due very two weeks.) the textbook can be accessed for free online. be prepared to read and really proofread essays before submitting. you will lose points for incorrect citations or grammar errors.

Dr. Puri is amazing! I took her sociology classes through my 2 years at CSU East Bay. She brings up topics that might be uncomfortable but really shift your perspective on how you perceive the world and your consciousness. She expects your best work - she pays attention to citing, grammar, etc. You'll certainly enjoy her lectures!

Dr. Puri is an engaging lecturer. She uses lots of strange but interesting examples. The class was writing heavy, but the subjects we had to write on were thoughtful. She shares a unique perspective

I had Puri for Soc 340 & 300 this semester & walked out with A's for both classes, you can too. looking at all these previous comments in the beginning of the semester I thought I'd struggle but it was the opposite.Take advantage of office hours, sending emails for any clarification & calling off work if needed and it'll pay off. Dr. Puri was a pleasant professor this semester. I took her for both SOC300 and SOC340. Her syllabus outlines every single assignment you should be expecting this semester down to a summary of the prompt. Her midterm and final exams are not too difficult. She hosts an optional zoom meeting before the exams and those who attend do really well!
