I took Dr. Chanon for 225 as well. She's really nice, funny, and helpful, but her exams are pretty difficult. Be ready to study for those.
I had Sensation and Perception psychology with her. She was a good teacher, but I think the material just happened to be a little dry. She did her best to spice it up though, and there were many interesting activities sprinkled throughout the semester.
I lOVE Dr. Chanon. The material in the class was somewhat hard to understand at first but I always understood it after she lectured on it. As long as you read most of the assigned textbook readings and pay attention, this class is super interesting and easy to do well in.
Dr. Chanon is a GREAT prof. I took learning psychology with her last semester, and now I have her for sensation and perception. She sets up the class to be very lenient towards absences and drops one exam grade plus three homework grades at the end of the year. She is also cute and engaging and seems to really match the mood of her students!
Easy class if you pay attention in lecture. Dr. Chanon is so sweet and cute! She is kind of shy but warms up after the first few weeks and tries really hard to make the material fun. She's good for 222 and 225!
Dr. Chanon is the best instructor that I had at UNC I took two of her classes, and she is an excellent instructor. She includes plenty of spaced practice so you don't forget earlier material. Her exams make up a large portion of the grade, but if you pay attention and try you will do well. Her lectures are interesting and she does fun demos.
Prof Chanon goes through lectures SO FAST AND IS HORRIBLE AT EXPLAINING CONCEPTS. Then when you go to read through the slides to understand the material better, she has no explanation on the slides. Her tests are way too hard considering there is no explanation anywhere online to learn from. I wish I could put her at half speed during lectures.
Dr. Chanon is amazing! I will say if you dont pay attention in class, take notes, & don't study this class can be hard. It may be easier for those people who have a strong neuroscience background (I didnt) I have gone to her office hours & she was always so helpful & caring. Exams can be easy when you study and she is never trying to trick you.
Dr. Chanon is a really great professor. She is very helpful, and really cares about your success in her class. She is always accessible and holds office hours every weak which are helpful if you dont understand the material. Her tests can be hard, so be prepared to study, but overall I really enjoyed the class.
This is the best class I have taken at UNC. Dr. Chanon is an incredible professor who connects concepts from psychology to your daily life, making the class super interesting. I would take as many classes as I could with Dr. Chanon. For tests, studying your notes from class is more than enough. You won't regret taking this class!!
Dr Chanon was such a great professor. She made the class really fun and enjoyable with her demos throughout the semester. She also gives you all the tools you need to be successful. Highly recommend!
Dr. Chanon is amazing. She is very clear with her class and is always helpful with any questions you may. I cannot recommend her enough and she always makes class as enjoyable as possible!
Super fun and easy professor! Her PSYC 230 class is super engaging. There are homework assignments every week but theyre easy and it helpful to know for the exam. Participation is required so as long as youre good with that, you can get an A in the class! Exams were fair, just use her study guide that she makes and you will get an A!
Dr. Chanon is amazing!! I had her for NSCI 225 and PSYC 230. Very clear in what is going to be on the exam and easy to follow during lecture with all the demos. She gave homework once a week and does PollEv in class for participation.. As long as you study from the guides she makes and your notes, you should be good for the exams!
Chanon is an absolute gem!! One of the sweetest professors I've had at UNC. PSYC 230 was an easy A and is so so interesting. 10/10 recommend
Dr. Chanon is amazing as a person and a professor. She is very accessible outside of class too, but honestly if you pay attention in lectures and take good notes and study, you should be fine. She never tries to trick you on exams and while there is some homework, they're usually easy while also helping you learn. 10/10 would recommend.
Dr. Channon is amazing! Her tests are very fair (+1 is dropped) and her lectures are enjoyable. She was very understanding and organized when we moved to online learning, as she was in the classroom. She makes an effort to know everyones name and encourages participation. 222/225/230 are great classes and I recommend Dr. Channon for them!
This was online, but her Sakai site was beautifully done and her lectures were clear, interactive, and accessible. It was obvious that she put a ton of care into making sure that we still got a great learning experience. This is a nerdy thing to say, but the class was... can I even say that it was too easy? I felt like I could have learned more.
I adore Professor Chanon, and I'm trying so hard to get another class with her, but they're all full. Her lectures are really interesting and interactive. She has a very forgiving grading and attendance policy. She also responds quickly to emails, and makes a good effort to get to know students -- even in large lecture halls. Would def recommend.
Dr. Channon is an AMAZING professor and person! She has a kind heart and made my first semester at UNC the best it could be considering COVID. Her online lectures is structured beautifully and I cannot stress how fair of professor she is. I wish I had her for in person to know her more since she is my favorite prof at UNC. I will miss her def :(
Dr. Chanon is a great professor especially given the circumstances. However, the online class felt like a lot of busy work. Homework was often barely related to the content or seemed silly. The due dates for homework were also a little inconsistent, so make sure you double check due dates. Overall she was super nice and the class was fine.
I had her before in psyc 330. both classes are super easy and interesting. Her classes do overlap somewhat but that is to be expected with the content. Great lecturer and super engaging. Study a little bit and you'll do great. 10/10
Dr. Chanon is amazing! She is knowledgable and incredibly caring. Her tests, and her class overall, are incredibly fair. Her online class flows really well and is super easy to keep up with. All assignments build off of each other and are meant to help you solidify the material. 10/10 recommend any class with her!
She's simply the most fantastic online instructor I've had at UNC yet, and I'm sure her in person class would be much of the same. Absolutely recommended, take NSCI225 with her!
Chanon is a GEM! I absolutely love her. She has such a nice personality and she really cares about her students. I wish we weren't online this semester because I would've really enjoyed having her in person. Exams/quizzes are open-note so that takes the pressure off, but the info you learn is very interesting and she makes it easy to understand!
Dr. Channon was the only professor I had who truly understood and respected the fact that we are in a pandemic. Her lectures were all recorded and to get participation credit you had to answer a couple of questions throughout the lectures. Her quizzes and exams were open-note and you could take her quizzes many times to get 100.
Knows how to teach in a pandemic and is intentional about assigning easy work that supplements core concepts. Open note tests/quizzes with lax time limits. Easy participation questions and homework assignments. Allows flexibility by letting your drop a certain number of assignments. Very effective teacher who is passionate about her work.
Dr. Chanon is awesome! Her lectures are very engaging, and she is an incredibly reasonable grader. The textbook is optional, and you are graded on attendance, weekly homework assignment, non-cumulative quizzes, cumulative quizzes (can take more than once), and the cumulative final. Her class is designed to really help you learn the material!
I normally don't like async courses but this one (cog sci) was outstanding. Dr. Chanon builds in so many opportunities for active learning into class and was very organized with course content, even making a due date list on Sakai. Really enjoyed the diverse guest speakers, makerspace UX project, group activities and cool readings. Take Dr. Chanon!
Ive had Dr. Chanon for nsci 222,225 and now 330. I LOVED this class. Well made asynchronous lessons, fair quizzes/learning checks, extra credit and test corrections, and a super fun human centered design project with the makerspaces. Dr. Chanon is a phenomenal teacher and PSYC 330 was an awesome class
Professor Chanon's NSCI 225 class is an example of a remote async class done right. She was accessible all semester, was great with feedback, never blindsided us with exam questions, and had forgiving grading policies. Considering that this is a demo-heavy class, it's probably the toughest type of class to do remotely, but she did incredibly well.
Dr. Chanon is absolutely amazing! Not only was the content and the demos so interesting but also very accommodating as well. She is very supportive and pushes you to do your very best! If you are stem, consider majoring in neuroscience and take her!!!
The absolute epitome of what a professor should be! The entire class is structured so that you know exactly what to expect, when assignments are due, how assignments need to be done, what you REALLY need to know for the exams, and all of that is laid out in the least stressful way possible! Dr. Chanon actually cares unlike most professors at UNC.
Dr. Chanon's a fantastic instructor. This course specifically is laid out well and all of the assignments are presented on a very easy-to-grasp schedule. Dr. Chanon teaches with an enthusiasm and clear interest in the material that makes it easy to be interested yourself. Highly recommend taking a class or two with her!
Most organized class I have ever taken. 100% take this class if you can and if not take it the semester after. Dr. Chanon is an amazing lecturer and is SO understanding and genuinely cares. Anybody can take this class and do well, she has it structured so amazingly. I always knew my grades and always felt supported.
Fantastic prof. I highly recommend her for Learning. She is a veteran and has teaching down to a science. She is also fun, pleasant, and makes lectures highly interactive. The class was also not challenging, if that's your thing.
Vicki Chanon is wonderful. This class was a bit of work (studying, the usual) but she is very flexible with having online lectures posted and participation credit.
Dr. Chanon is an amazing professor. She gives you exactly what information you need to know for the exams. If you miss class, you can still get participation credit and lectures are posted online, so that was very accommodating. She genuinely wants you to learn and has everything structured very well. You will definitely get an A if you study well!
I love Dr. Chanon so much I would give her my first born child. The material is not easy but she makes it so understandable and her exams are a direct reflection of what is taught. Amazing professor and incredibly helpful to anyone wanting to get into research. Take her for a class if you can!
Dr. Chanon truly gives students all the guidance and materials we need to succeed in her class. Her class is well organized, you have decent cushioning for your grades, and most importantly, she's a great lecturer and is really good at breaking down concepts in easy to understand language.
Professor Chanon is funny and so relatable. She is also very caring. Her exams are easy and she accommodates her students well. I would without a doubt take more classes with her, she makes the content very interesting and has her students engage in a way that actually helps. The class content is hard at times but her exams are easy and minimal work
She was great! It was online and asynchronous, but I still felt very engaged with the class. She also made the material super easy to understand. I have no complaints about her or this class!
Dr. Chanon is super sweet. The class was not super difficult so long as you study (especially for the learning checks!) The unique part of this class is the UX BeAM project, which while tedious at times was pretty cool to do. There is pretty regular homework, but you don't necessarily have to read the book. Be sure to study the learning goals!
Dr. Chanon is so incredible it makes me emotional. In a way, I literally felt like her office was a safe space for me because of how caring and helpful she was. She has kids which I think helps her have even more of a heart for college students & their well-being. Her lectures are amazing, the class is very organized, and she is so accessible!
Professor Chanon is a great professor. Textbook was not required for the course and lectures covered all the material that we were tested on. Chanon made this course very stress free and her learning checks were great preparation for the final. She sets this class up for your success and it is easy to pass if you put in the effort!
One of the best at UNC! The way she set up her class was perfect. I feel like I genuinely learnt a lot from the class- the material stuck all semester. Content is cool and she gives great lectures. The 3 tests are kinda challenging but you drop one and the final is easy in comparison. You can miss up to 6 classes without penalty but should catch up
I loved Dr. Chanon! She's super passionate about neuroscience and she was always ready to answer our questions. The workload was very manageable and the tests were fair. She cares a lot about her students and consistently updates us about the class. Make sure to keep up with the content! Definitely take this class with Dr. Chanon, she's the best!
Dr. Chanon is super sweet and she teaches the material very well. I felt like I actually learned a lot from her class. You have easy homework due every Friday, 3 exams (1 is dropped), and a few quizzes but you can use your notes. The material is a little hard, but she explains in very well. Tests are fair.
Professor Chanon is really kind and caring. The material wasn't that bad, but she teaches it very well. There are 3 exams but 1 is dropped, and they are pretty easy. As long as you pay attention in class and do the assignments, you will get an A.
Dr. Chanon is one of the best professors at UNC. She is positive and encouraging toward her students and clearly wants to see everyone succeed. Her tests are pretty straightforward and the posted recorded lectures are great for studying. She was super understanding and flexible with attendance and assignment grading.
I loved this course! The content was interesting and Dr. Chanon is an amazing lecturer! She really wants all her students to succeed. She was more than fair with all assignments. The workload was manageable. I recommend this class to anybody.
Professor Chanon is one of the best professors ever. She learned all her ~100 students' names within the first few weeks of class. Her lectures are well-organized, engaging, and fun. Cognitive Psychology requires lots of memorization, but she makes it durable for her students. I have so many good things to say about her. Highly recommend!
Dr. Chanon is my favorite professor so far at UNC. She cares so much about her students and responds to emails very quickly. Her grading system is very forgiving. Her exams are very straight forward. Plus, she practically does reviews every day. She also makes the lectures interesting by making what we learned relatable. Highly recommend!!!
She was such a caring professor and I rly want to take another class with her before I graduate! She learned everyone's names (and our class is over 100 people)!! It's a lot of material, but she makes it manageable for sure!
Every lecture was incredibly engaging and she taught the material really well. They were also recorded and posted if you missed a day. Really fair tests too.
I thought it was a tough class content-wise, especially compared to her PSYC 230 class. But, Dr. Chanon still has teaching down to a science and is an engaging lecturer. Her grading system is incredibly reasonable too, just make sure you really put in the work for the exams. The final is easy compared to them!
Dr. Chanon is amazing! She's so sweet, and she tries her best to get to know everyone in the class. Content was fun, and all assignments were chill. She has a nice grading system; you can drop lowest midterm and 2 HWs. HW was graded nicely. The final was easier compared to midterms/LCs. Make sure to study a bit. We got 1 point EC for final.
Love Vicki! She is so kind and hilarious in class. The homework and tests are pretty easy. I would recommend buying the book (if you really want it), taking pictures of all the pages, and then returning it for all your money back at the UNC Student Store. Textbook pretty much goes over everything in class - so maybe I'm just extra.
The absolute best professor I've had at UNC! Dr. Chanon is so caring and very accessible, definitely a teacher to the core. She and the TAs provide plenty of review materials, and the homework assignments aren't too demanding. Her grading criteria are also very clear and there's a lot of flexibility. Very funny, highly respected, overall 10/10!
Dr. Chanon is amazing! Her grading is based off HW assignments, 2 cumulative quizzes (which you can retake to get a 100!), exams, and a final! Her exams were pretty straightforward as long as you took note of important things she says in class and look over the learning objectives. She is also really funny and learned all of our names! Not a hard A
Awesome Professor! Truly cares about her students. She learned all the names for a 100 or so person class. There are 3 exams and one is dropped! As well, as a final that was somewhat easier than the other exams! This has been one of my favorite classes at UNC, and I feel like I learned a lot!
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! This class has a lot of content but she makes learning easier and fun (she is so funny)! There is HW, 2 online quizzes (can retake many times), 3 tests (one dropped), and a final! The exams were not terrible, as long as you take good notes and do the learning objectives/outlines. The final was easier than her tests! DO IT
Dr. Chanon is AMAZING. She tries very hard to make her lectures interactive so that students can relate to the information that she is teaching. Despite the lecture hall being massive, she makes an effort to put a face to every name, and is there for her students to help them. All tests are based entirely on lectures, which are recorded.
This was my 2nd class with Dr. Chanon, but first online class with her over the summer. Class was organized well, and there was plenty of wiggle room for participation. Assignments and LCs were same difficulty, maybe a bit easier than her in-person class. Would recommend any class with Chanon
Dr. Chanon is amazing!! I genuinely learned so much and enjoyed doing it. She's pretty lenient in terms of attendance/exam grades so it's not difficult to get a good grade with minimal effort.
Dr. Chanon was one of my favorite professors this semester! The class structure involves attending class, taking notes, weekly quizzes, and 3 exams. You can drop your lowest scores in attendance, quizzes, and exams! She is super engaging and made cognitive psychology fun. The exams were super straightforward and reasonable.
Dr. Chanon is the absolute best professor! She is so organized and considerate of students, making it really easy to manage her class. This 490 was on Animal Sensation/Perception which is a new class and it was super interesting. Highly recommend!
This was my third class with Dr. Chanon, and it was the easiest class I have taken of hers. She made it easy for everyone to get an A (she literally said everyone should get an A in this class). Half of your grade can easily be a 100 with HW and attendance. Quizzes have simple questions, and she allows retakes. Group project was fun too.
Easily one of my favorite professors and classes! She makes an effort to learn your name, even among so many students, and she does a lot of in class activities to keep you engaged. She gives cumulative quizzes in between unit exams that you can take as many times as you want to get a 100, so getting a good grade is really attainable.
the content is medium/difficult and the exams are tricky, but she is easy to talk to and is more than willing to meet to help you understand the content. Even though the exams are tricky, there is a lot of flexibility in the grading and many opportunities to improve your grade! She's really engaging and overall a fun person!
Dr. Chanon is an awesome professor! She really cares about you and made an effort to learn my name in a classroom of hundreds of students. Her classes were really engaging and helped you learn the material. The learning checks (midterms) and final were easy. Homework and quizzes are a guaranteed 100.
Chanon is one of the best professors I have had at UNC. She learned everyone's names in an over 100 person class and made an effort to connect. She gave us countless opportunities to up our grade and class was so engaging. I could not recommend a class more!!!!
Dr. Chanon is amazing. She structures grading so that you have wiggle room. Her lectures are incredibly entertaining with lots of activities. Her review for exams are very helpful. As long as you show up and put in effort you will do great. She's also super nice and hilarious.
Dr. Chanon was AMAZING. I was nervous for the class since I didn't think it'd be my strong suit, but she made it easy to learn and ask questions. Lectures are great and she also does a lot of helpful review. Attendance is technically mandatory but you get like 6 free absences. Tests are low-stakes and all multiple choice. Plus she's funny and nice!
Chanon is amazing, take her if you can! She genuinely cares about students understanding the material, not just memorizing it. Lots of opportunities to get your grade up and clear grading criteria. Really interesting lectures that are interactive and get you invested in the material.
Dr. Chanon is the Gold-Standard. Her lectures are engaging, grading criteria is clear & fair, & she gives you every opportunity to succeed. She cares about her students & will learn your name in a class of 200 students. I plan to take every class I can with her, and I recommend you do, too! She's the type of professor that changes students' lives.
Dr. Chanon is so funny and upbeat! Attendance matters a lot and is mostly done by using notecards and answering questions. She is super knowledgable and honestly this class is very easy and straight forward especially if you prior knowledge of the nervous system and actually come to class.
dr chanon is so sweet, yes this class is kinda difficult, but as long as you put the work into it, you'll def do good, if you study hard for the final, you'll get an A, weekly hws, take home quizzes, 21/25 lectures need to be attended, 1 quiz and learning check is dropped, 2 hws are also dropped, def take it w her.
Dr. Chanon was an amazing professor, probably one of the best I've had at UNC. She makes an effort to learn every students name (even in a class of over 100 students), is very understanding, and makes lectures fun. Homework and quizzes are guaranteed 100s, and the midterms and finals are easy. As long as you pay attention and try, you'll be fine.
The class is super chill—graded based on weekly homework, a few quizzes, and a group project (you get to pick your group). Chanon is awesome. This is my third class with her and I honestly have nothing bad to say. She even says everyone should get an A.
I loved going to this class because of Dr. Chanon. She is absolutely hilarious and so much fun to listen to. I really enjoyed the activities we did in class, they made the lectures engaging even when the content could be dull. Dr. Chanon, on the other hand, is never, ever dull. Also you get four absences, two homeworks, and one midterm dropped!
AVOID AT ALL COST! Her teaching style was so confusing and inconsistent and never align with the textbook content order. I spent most of my time just figuring out where the content she taught on the textbook. Her learning checks were one of the hardest STEM exam I have at UNC without any practice problem sets. DO NOT TAKE. SAVE YOUR GPA.
LOVE HER super nice she learned everyone's name in a 100+ lecture, exams were super easy, attendance is mandatory via notecards you write on during class but for completion, lets you review exams in office hours, lectures recorded, hw one a week but rly easy, take her!!
Nice professor but the learning checks were hard for me and there was a lot of content on each one
I absolutely adore Dr. Chanon! She's hilarious and gets to know every student in her class (and our lecture was definitely more than 50 people)! She's really great about posting slideshows and recordings! Number one tip is to fill out the outlines for learning checks! The lowest learning check is dropped! Homeworks are pretty easy too!
Dr. Chanon genuinely cares about her students, making an effort to know everyone's name, and she also makes class enjoyable to attend. There are a ton of interesting demonstrations that make lectures fun, and her grading scale is super chill. 3 exams, 1 dropped, weekly homework that will get full credit if completed, and the final.
One of my favorite professors I've had at UNC! Her lectures are very engaging including fun activities to understand the content. Her exams are very straightforward and she also offers a few extra credit opportunities. Also, one exam is dropped, and you can take the quizzes as many times as you want. I genuinely enjoyed going to her class :)
Dr. Chanon is just a great professor. Super kind and enjoyable to be in class with. She has a weird attendance policy with the use of flashcards to answer in class questions and then you turn in the flashcard the same day so you will have to be ok with that. She'll learn everyone's names so that's nice.
I love Vicki down! Super kind and cracked me up all semester. She learns everyone's names and her in-class participation is engaging and solidifies concepts. Exams are pretty straightforward, 2 homework drops, and quizzes that you can take until you get a 100. You can also miss 6 classes which is nice. Very easy class and an excellent prof.
Dr. Chanon's lectures were really engaging, and she had a lot of demos that made class more fun. She also made the content easy to understand.
I would love to say this is an awful class to get off her waitlists lol, but Dr. Chanon is an amazing professor. She's incredibly kind and personable and learns everyone's name, and her lectures are fun to attend. This class was mainly group project focused with that taking the place of the final, which I really enjoyed. 20/10 reccomend Dr. Chanon.
Love love love Dr. Chanon, she is the best!! I enjoyed her class so much, and it's genuinely been one of my favorite classes I've taken. She puts in a lot of effort into making it such a great experience.
