This professor is horrible! She flies through the material and doesn't explain stuff very well! I am retaking the class this semester with Professor Lund and he is so much better-- he actually takes the time to show examples of the material he is teaching and does a ton of in class demonstrations!
Shes nice but hard to understand. Definately not a bad teacher, just goes through everything too fast.

Very boring...always put me to sleep. Never really clarified anything she was talking about.
She goes over the material way to fast and she always rolls her eyes. She is not the the teacher you want if you have never had a chemisty class before.
It's a hard class, but she is a good prof, and very willing to help.
Very helpful, she will take time to meet with you and go over material that you don't understand. Great option for taking 1020
She is a very nice lady but kind of speaks in a muffled voice so LISTEN UP! Great for 1020!
She is an ok professor, i think the speed at which she teaches is fine. Her exams are on the harder side but if you pay attention in class and get a study group going the exams are managable. She does challenge problems and they are difficult but manageable. If you take her expect to put time and effort into the class.
Vicki is a sweetheart who really loves what she does so she makes class (and labs) fun. I dreaded taking chemistry, but ended up enjoying the class! Just make sure you ask for help if you need it, she never makes you feel bad for asking questions and makes sure you understand things before moving onto the next concept. I highly recommend Vicki!
She is great! Very easy to understand and is willling to work with students outside of class.
She is an AWESOME professor. There is not a nicer or more helpful instructor ANYWHERE!!I had her for 1061 also and I knew then that there was no way I could take 1062 from anyone else. She is THAT good! She is really smart, but doesn't act like it. She has a sense of humor and her class is really fun.
She is a fantastic professor- one of my all-time favorites. She takes time to help you with questions outside of class and doesn't act like you are stupid to ask them. She is fair in her grading and hands out study guides for all the tests with example problems. She rocks!
Vicki Rocks! She's very helpful when things get confusing. She's also casual and approachable.
well, i got a C in interpretive chem because i never opened the book once haha my bad. anyway, she is okay. says mmkay a lot, reminds me of that guy from south park.
Vicki is an AWESOME professor! She is soooo willing to help you if you need it. She is so easy going and overall has a great and funny attitude during class. I had her for both lecture AND lab, and it was a blast!
She is a nice teacher but I had a really hard time learning from her teaching style! She teaches the class as if everyone knows what she is talking about & she moves fast through her notes.I did not think she was thural at all on what she teaches! If you take her class be ready to teach yourself!I would not recommended her for a chem teacher unless y
I would not recommened her for a teacher her lectures are really hard to follow & she lets people talk during the class so it makes it really hard to even hear her talking & she doesent care. She teaches the class as though everyone already knows everything & is horrible @ explaining her lectures, I think that she wants people to be confused.
Good teacher. Gets test scores back really fast. She is willing to help if you ask. But chemistry is not easy so you have to do a lot of work yourself. If you put effort into it, you will do well. If not, then you will get what you might expect.
she is ok.
Vicky is awesome. she is always there if you need help. Be in class , do your homework asak for help and you will be fine.
Vicki is great! Her exams are on the harder side, but she offers plenty of opportunities to boost your grade. Expect to put effort into this class if you want a high grade--it won't come naturally!
She is a great prefessor! She makes chemistry interesting. I would recommend her, she knows her stuff.
Very helpful! I would definately recommend her. If something does not make sense all you have to do is go to her office and she can help out:)
I took Vicki for both 1061 and 1062. She is extremely helpful when you have questions in class or out. Her tests can challenge you but if you keep up on homework and look over the review material it isn't that bad.
Wants students to succeed. Extremely available for extra help, even on graded homework. Very personable. Great knowledge of topic. Can be hard to follow in lecture, but provides substantial outlines (incl examples) that made it easier to follow along (also records/posts lectures). Offered extra credit when class needed it.
Very good teacher
I loved chemistry before I took her 1061 class. The material she taught in class had nothing to do with what was on the test. I had to teach myself the material in order to even pass it. She is a nice person, but a terrible professor.
Loved this professor! Super helpful whenever needed, even with homework. Also very understanding. I had to miss two tests and she was very flexible with me. Communicate with her and you'll love her!
Great Prof!! She gives you all the resources you need to succeed. Very helpful when you have questions. Her tests are a little bit harder but Mac is a fair grader.
Very nice professor. The tests are a little hard. But she will give you extra credit if you tried your best. Make sure you keep up w/the homework and ask questions.
She is a good teacher. The tests were a little hard and she goes a bit to fast. Taking notes is hard because she writes on the board faster than I can write on paper. Read the book before hand and you will do fine in her class.
A little awkward, but very nice and helpful. She posts audio lectures online so you don't always have to show up to class. The tests are hard, just make sure you do all of the recommended practice she gives. Gives extra credit. Outstanding at learning names. I never raised my hand and she doesnt take attendence, but she somehow remembered my name!
Vicki's lectures make so much sense. She does a great job explaining things in understandable ways. She is always available in her office if you need extra help. Her tests are a good challenge, but never unfair. She grades her tests and labs as fast as lightning so you always know how you are doing. Great instructor.
Doesn't really do the best job of explaining complicated stuff (all of chemistry), but knows what she's doing. She's good at helping people when they're stuck on assignments and such. Exams are really hard and a ton of studying and extra work by yourself is vital.
You learn everything you need to know in class! So show up and you do not need to use the book at all. She is nice, has little homework and will help you if you ask. I would take her class again.
Took this class last semester and I loved this teacher!!! She goes over everything you need to know in class and posts all lectures online. Exams aren't easy but she awards LOTS of partial credit. If you have a question she will always help you out with a problem. Switched to a Chem major because of her! Taking her again this semester!
Fairly intellegent individual but clearly doesn't like to instruct. If approached with a question during lab, she will seem annoyed. Overall decent I suppose.
Very Intelligent, helpful. Makes the lessons very clear. Tests are difficult but if you study and listen you will do fine, and it makes the standardized test a walk in the park! Highly recommend her to both 1061 and 1062 students!
Before taking this class I thought it would be extremely difficult, but I felt Vicki did a very good job of thoroughly going through everything. She posted lectures online, gave a ton of examples and had practice problems for the test. To do well in this class, I think its important to go to a lot of lectures and labs. Also, do the study guides!
She's a very good prof. Very clear on lectures and information needed for tests. She basically goes off of the information in the text book. The tests aren't very difficult if you know what your doing. Just take notes during class, do the homework and study and you will be fine.
Very good at explaining what she lectures. Has lots of visual effects and I am not talking powerpoints.
I had her for 1061 and am taking her for 1062 again. In lecture, she just talks and lets you write down what you want, which didn't help me, but if you go talk to her out of class, it helps a lot. There are pop quizzes, but if you do the online homework (which was harder), you will pass. Her tests were tough, which made the state final really easy.
She is a good prof, but her exam are so hard and almost don't related to the lectures.
Vicki is the best professor I've ever had! She was always happy to see me in her office when I had questions, and never seemed annoyed like some of my previous professors. She gives a lot of information during lectures, and it is a hard class, but if you are going into a chemistry field, Vicki will teach more in depth than the other professors.
Do NOT take this professor for a summer course. The material is difficult to understand in a 5 week period from this professor. Very nice individual but not the best at teaching. If you ask questions, she seems very annoyed to answer them, and sometimes will make you feel dumb for even trying to ask. The tests were very difficult.
I like her a lot as a person, but her tests were VERY difficult for me. The beginning would be easy but towards the end of the test I would be totally lost. She drops lowest score on tests/assignments of all categories which is nice. Quite a bit of homework, but the work for sure helps for tests.
she makes people feel dumb when they ask questions unless she favorites u. tests are VERY hard. U could study for 8 hours and still get a C on them (actually happened to me). tests have problems she does not prepare u for. mastering chem helps but sometimes she never teaches some of the stuff on it. will have to refer to book often to do well.
Overall a great teacher, I thought her lectures were entertaining and time was used effectively. For any potential new students, beware of her tests though, they are quite difficult. But don't worry too much, she also had lots of helpful homework to make up for any bad test score. She also drops the lowest of the tests, quizzes, etc too.
Vicki is a wonderful professor. She gives clear notes and stays on point for lectures. As long as you do your work and study before exams you will do great. She always willing to help if you don't understand the material.
She was an amazing professor would gladly take another one of her courses, she is really helpful if you need help, but be ready to put in work this is not a easy course, start studying early because overall the course is easy, just the memorization is kind of hard if you don't start on time. One of the dopest profs I've ever had.
Chem1061 is not easy. Vickie was a great prof for this class though! She always posted the lectures online and was always open to helping me when I didn't understand. Her tests are very hard, be aware! Study and know the material and you'll do fine. She gives partial credit so never leave any problem blank. You can tell she cares, would take again.
The material is tough, but between lectures, videos, the book and practice it is manageable. Vicki is very generous when it comes to grading, but the tests are challenging. I definitely feel like I have to work for a decent score, which is good.
If you want a challenge, take Vicki. Her lectures are confusing and the amount of homework is insane. She will do worksheets in class and assign you video lectures outside of class. Plus you have multiple weekly assignments to do. She is bad at explaining something if someone is lost and her tests are really hard, but do help prepare you for final.
Not a good experience. I was struggling already, and her lectures and random online studies did not make it any easier. Actually, her lectures and online things did not match up.. at all. After a few weeks, I went to get help from her and she said I looked like I was doing good. Then I went on my way. I withdrew from the class. Also changed major.
She was a kind and caring professor, Hard grader!!!! if you try the problem you can get some credit but she can knock you down by 0.05 points. Labs were easy and she made them fun. Lectures were long and difficult. She was helpful so I would take her again.
Lecture and Lab instructor. Chem 1062 is a challenging course but I've really been happy with my experience. Expect lots of homework but you will learn a lot of chemistry. Lecture and worksheet heavy, but that works for me. Visual learners might struggle. Very chill. This is my last chem class for my major but I would recommend her.
She's an amazing Prof. who knows her chemistry and can help you no matter what. Her lectures were to the point and not heavy, where you didn't even need the book at times. Homework consisted of challenge problems which make you think critically of material, video lectures w/2 point quiz &mastering chem. If you study the tests aren't difficult!
She is a really great professor and genuinely wants each and every student to succeed! Ask questions and visit her office hours!!!! also sit in front and she'll talk to you which is fun!
She is a really great professor and genuinely wants each and every student to succeed! Ask questions and visit her office hours!!!! also sit in front and she'll talk to you which is fun!
I absolutely LOVE Prof. MacMurdo!!! She is really kind, and cares about your success. I took the hybrid version. She also allows 11 points of extra credit. Note: the final exam is a standardized test through the ACS and is worth 200 points (about 25% of your grade). I got an A, but I definitely needed to put the work in. Tests are straight forward
Hard class, but taught well. There's a lot of information so buckle up and set aside time to learn it. If you keep pushing and showing up you WILL pass. It wasn't necessary for me to read the whole textbook but I did need to reference it. If you have questions, ask them immediately. Vicki will help you if you seek her out. Work with your neighbors!
It's a very hard class but she's the professor to take it with. Its hard content but if you go to class and study it will make sense. Macmurdo is happy to help if you need it and is very understanding.
Chemistry overall is a very tough subject and is difficult to understand. With that being said in order to pass the class, good/helpful professor is needed to teach the class. However, this professor was not very helpful. I went out of my way multiple times to get help and ask questions. She would say its unfair to the other students to help.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, it became very hard to fully grasp new content, but she understood that. She allowed more time for tests, online labs, etc. Chemistry is not a class that should be taken online, and that is a major reason as to why not only myself, but others as well suffered towards the end of the semester.
She is the type of professor who never answers questions, makes you feel stupid for asking them, and her exams were IMPOSSIBLE. Our average grade for exams was 60% and she did nothing about it. She doesn't care about you, and will not feel bad for whatever grade you achieve. Worst professor in 8 years of secondary education. Avoid at all costs.
Prof. Macmurdo was easily the best instructor I've ever had for a course like this. Explained everything amazingly, very patient, didn't feel too fast paced even though there was a lot of material.
She basically tutored me and was always really nice about it, too. I wouldn't have passed the class without her clarifications and open student hours. Absolutely love this professor. Ask questions because it's hard sometimes to understand every in-class packet. I'm going to repeat it, ASK QUESTIONS. If you're not asking you're not passing.
make the class easy but if you get a bad partner you will want to die
She was an amazing professor. She would respond very fast even on the weekend. While I found the class very challenging she was great!
She was fun to be around. Bubbly person and you can tell she really loves chemistry. Whenever I needed help, she would explain perfectly. She has helpful online videos in addition to her in-class lectures. Her tests were pretty hard though. If you want to pass those with a good grade, MEMORIZE. She also responded to emails FAST, even late at night.
Straightforward class. Lectures were mostly group work and labs were fun.
MackMurdo is a very good professor. She is very kind and you can tell she is passionate about chemistry. The class is definitely challenging, but she is always willing to help you out. I always emailed her and she got back to me super fast. She also graded exams quick, which was great.
Vicki was the best professor! She is so sweet, patient, qualified, and knowledgeable. Whenever I needed help, she patiently answered my questions and gave straightforward explanations. In her lectures, she followed the chapter outlines (use these! They are available on the course site) and she emphasized practice problems and active participation.
awful
Dr. MacMurdo is a wonderful professor and really cares about seeing her students succeed, but this course (CHEM1061) was a LOT of work. I was easily putting in twice as much as work into this class compared to any of the other classes I've taken. If you put in the effort, though, you'll succeed.
Funny, understanding, kind of heavy amount of homework, lots of extra credit opportunities, tests were reasonable
Prof MacMurdo was so kind and caring. Her lectures were based off of group activities, so I didn't really learn much from her in lecture. I really relied on The Organic Chemistry Teacher and the professional Chem tutor for learning the material. The exams weighed a lot, and ngl they were pretty hard. She tries her best to help, but its confusing.
She is really nice, funny, and also responds to emails really fast. Her lectures are lowkey confusing but her videos are sooooo helpful. She is understanding and she gives extra credit.
Doing well on exams= coming to lecture and office hours. Material on exams based on group activities done in class. Provides videos on D2l incase of missed lecture but vids don't provide bulk of material. Lots of extra credit, lots of work and homework though. Don't skip lecture and expect a good grade. if you miss class, visit office hours=success.
Very lenient grader when it came to exams. All the little things add up a lot at the end of the semester, do it all. Always watch all of her videos and do all the homework and extra credits. She really was a great and understanding professor. If you have to take a lab, take it with her too!
Very hard Chem 1061 class, but I did enjoy her lectures. It was challenging and rewarding. I did not care for the online videos, though I understand why they were needed due to time constraints.
Don't do it, just don't.
Horrible don't do it.
She is excellent at explaining the materials for each chapter. Additionally, she provides a lot of extra help in D2L, including short videos explaining calculations and extra credit practice problems. She is also very lenient on exams. I recommend her class, especially if you prefer to spend less time studying.
Made chem fun!
So much fun in chem!
She gives lots of opportunities for extra credit and is willing to answer questions. Chem is a pretty hard subject, but I think like the material she provided really helped me understand the subject more. Overall really liked her class and would recommend.
She obviously knows what she is talking about and is passionate. There's lots of extra credit but each one is only worth 0.1 points, 15 points by the end. Also there's a many assignments: weekly HW, prelab, postlab, challenge problem, reading, and 20mins of lecture video's every week. Its not impossible or anything but you can quickly fall behind.
While the professor appears approachable and supportive, offering assistance and extra credit, the disconnect between the class notes, textbook, and test content has presented difficulties in understanding the material. The course also incorporates group work and class participation.
I had her for Chem 1061 and 1062 she was caring and really wanted students to succeed, would recommend her to anyone.
Professor laughed at me when I asked for help. Told me I need to remember High school chem and if I didn't remember, then I shouldn't be taking her class. It was quite rude, and I tried to get through the course, but the videos were no help nor were the lectures. Tried very hard to study and get tutoring but tests were not related to material.
This course was OK. The lab projects were the only good part because you'd be working in groups. When it came to the lectures, I couldn't really understand anything and had to rely on my teammates, but sometimes they couldn't understand the material as well. Had to put a lot of time and effort into this course and also rely on myself.
There's an immense disconnect within the structure of this class. The lectures are viewed outside of class online and don't really teach the topics very well. In class she doesn't teach she gives you problems to do with a partner and then doesn't go over how to do them. If you do this course be prepared to learn on your own/ outside of class.
This is NOT an intro to chem! Even though it says it is. There are lots of things you need to remember from years ago that you might not especially if it was from high school. This professor doesn't teach in her course or show how to solve questions from the textbook. You honestly are all on your own for this class.
Macmurdo was a great professor and taught 1061 effectively. 1061 is a course designed to weed out students, so be prepared to be challenged. Getting a good grade boils down to using your resources effectively and understanding course material. Attend office hours= less time studying.
Dr. MacMurdo wants you to do well in her class, and it shows. She's good at explaining things one-on-one and in class. Her office hours are invaluable. If you're a science major, definitely spend some time talking over your school and career options with her— she's got great advice. Chemistry is a hard subject, but she makes it accessible.
It's like signing up for three classes worth of work. Online videos and practices, lab, and lectures take up so much time. At least 10 practices, 5 videos, 2.5h in person lecture, sometimes 3h lab plus all lab reports and quizzes that you have to do outside of class. I had never taken a chem class before -- not recommended for PSEO students.
She is an amazing professor and explains concepts very clearly. Office hours are also very useful if you need things explained more in depth. There is a lot of homework and videos you have to do outside of class though.
