She is very sweet, but very disorganised. Alot of the readings have to do with feminism. About 4 papers and 1 research paper are due. You will not learn any grammar. You will discuss the reading assignments in class....be prepared. She is kind but I didn't learn a thing.

What's the deal with students on this campus?? Lazy or what! Ms. Hodges is one of the most organized/prepared professors I've had at South. If you want to learn and not just get your "San Jac C" this is the class to take.

Great teacher!! She's really cool just turn in the papers with everything thats on the checklist and you will do fine. :D

A bit difficult but helpful and gives chances for improvement. You will learn and have fun.

Great professor. She's the ENGL Dept. Chair. She is a very good professor. A lot of quizzes, but they are easy if you pay attention in class (and they are word for word from the quiz on the book's website).

A fantastic teacher.. but she is an English teacher on steroids. ALOT of work, reading and writing. She is alot of fun, very helpful, and if you pay attention and do your work you will get an A. Always willing to help you do better! A Fantastic teacher!

She was a little hard, but for me it was more of the assignments not her.

Her lectures were interesting, she was very helpful, but she gave way too much work. A lot of reading assignments, 12 quizes, 2 essay papers, 3 test, and a very long and detailed research paper. I agree i think she was on steroids.

She has alot of assignments for you to do.Her class was pretty boring, but it wasn't too hard. Make sure to take some time on the essays..no last minute essays!!

She is a tough teacher but works with you to get what she is teaching. If you did not do well in high school English this class will be a challenge. Her teaching was effective for me personally but high school English was very easy for me and writing papers comes naturally. Not an easy A if your not crazy about writing and analyzing papers

Great teacher! She is very helpful, and incredibly intelligent.She makes the class interesting. She's not easy, but she's very understanding when it comes to the work load given. She's postponed due dates before because she felt we might be too stressed. Cares for her students. If you really want to LEARN soemthing about English, take her!

She is very nice and helpful.Just read, really read, don't just glance over, the assignments she gives you and discuss them in class(SPEAK UP), and it is also very helpful to go to the writing center or to smarthinking for your papers b/c the first paper I did I go a C and after I did smarthinking I made As! So take this teacher she's muy awesome!

I don't know why people think Vickie Hodges is not a good teacher. I had my issues with keeping up with the reading but i looooved her class. Her grades are clear and many a time you can revise for a better grade. She isn't the greatest thing since slice bread but she is helpful and of great ethics and standards.

she was an alright prof. she wasn't nearly as bad as i was expecting, she isn't very clear about her instructions and she is a ass about vocabulary

I felt that Mrs. Hodges was one of the best English teachers that I have ever had. She really taught her students how to think critically. She is very helpful to her students, just ask. If you don't understand a topic, or essay, just ask her. She's also a very kind, sweet woman, and very funny. I recommend her highly from my experience.

Ms. Hodges is an awesome teacher. All these bad comments are false. Only a lazy person would make those comments about her.You need to come to class because she will give you clues about test material. She likes you to ask questions. Do what she assigns and you will get an "A". I loved her so much that I took her for Eng. 1302. Great teacher! :)

She wasn't too bad, but I ended up dropping the class due to my laziness and not wanting to/procrastinating on the research paper. My own fault. Missed a few turn ins on grades, but over all I thought she was a good teacher.

this teacher cares about her students so much she is brutally honest. sometimes you need to be told that you can't spell to wake up. do the work, learn english and this class can be easy. took the tech writing class. **their, there, and they're** get it right people.

Gives quiz that you can use the text to answer questions in class. Collects essays and grade them give u back to make necessary correction so you can get a good grade. Highly recommend. I'm taking her for comp 1302 next semester.

Ms. Hodges, Expects alot of her students, yet she is very helpful and is passionate about the subject. I enjoyed her class and learned alot about English.

I took her for COMP 1301 and 1302 and she has been such a great teacher. Likes her assignments done exactly as she state, give a lot of time to get assignments done so don't worry. I would recommend her since her students are her priority. Best English teacher

She was great. not sure what the other comments are about. You have to work hard, but you will get ALOT out of it!! She expects you to take her class seriously. But if you do, she is very kind and fair. She was well organized and very sweet. Shes not an easy A. But an A is highly possible. She was one of my favorite teachers at San Jac.

I took mrs.hodges for 1301 english and didn't do so well. She is a very smart women but she is a very picky grader. Also she puts things on blackboard the morning before class and expects you to have seen it.

She's a good professor, she's the type that's really into her work, and wants her students to be able to write at a good level. She WILL help if you need it. You just have to ask. I know if I would have tried more I would have made an A. Good class, would take her again.

She is picky on attendance and assignment completion, but the course is pretty simple. We take a short quiz every day (she gives them to you online to practice at home, NOT HARD AT ALL). She just likes to see effort, but will be understanding even though she seems intimidating.

Probably the BEST professor I've ever had. She comes off as being very strict when you first meet her, but as the semester goes on if you are a student who comes to class, and does your work you will see she truly cares to help you. She always has her office open, she's always there for students, and she is a teacher that cares. ALWAYS READ !!

BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! TRULY CARES ABOUT HER STUDENTS. IF YOU DO YOUR WORK, SHOW UP, AND READ THE STORIES YOU WILL DO FINE.

I absolutely love this class. If you actually READ the assignments and participate in class you'll be fine. She really challenges you to understand what you're reading and she genuinely cares about her students.

Professor Hodges is a great professor. You can tell she loves what she does and is passionate about literature. The textbook is a must as you will be reading a lot. Showing up to class is a must because she gives quizzes over the stories as participation grades. You definitely have to work for your grade but she is sweet, speaks clearly & helpful.

This class can be tough if you don't stay on top of your essays. She's a tough grader, but if you follow the instructions you should get a A. She's very helpful as a teacher and offers office hours. THIS IS A WORKING CLASS, you must do the work in order to pass. The ones who dont do not pass. As you can tell by the people who gave her poor ratings.

I've always hated reading but Ms. Hodges really changed that. She quizzes on the readings (they're not hard if you read the material) and gives you lots of time to work on the research paper. She replies to emails quickly and is very passionate about what she does. I'm shy but I got used to participating in her class and actually really enjoyed it.

This is not an easy class, but I do think you will get the grade that you actually deserve. You will have to work to get the grade you want. Do your reading, come to class prepared, follow the syllabus and the instruction for the assignments, and you should be able to get a good grade. She will be there for you if you have question or need help.

I really enjoyed having professor Hodges! Her class was pretty hard, but if you do your work and put in the effort then you have no excuse not to pass with at least a B. She really made me enjoy the literature we read, & our class discussions helped me become more interested in reading. She's tough, but you will learn if you put in the effort.

Class is a discussion of stories/books/articles read in advance. Sometimes a quiz or in-class writing assignment. Two or three papers. Sometimes discussion is stilted and it's hard to follow her thought-drift, but she really opens up literature for you! She's nice and helpful. Sometimes gives unclear explanations the first time. Try hardlearn

I really like professor Hodges, she is a good lecturer and a caring teacher. you will not pass just for showing up, and she will not care if you do your work or not because if you don't, you will see it in your grades. I really worked hard on every essay and assignment she gave us, and I got an A because I deserved it. Quizzes are from hell though.
