Interesting stories, tests seem easy but then you get your grade back...
Very nice lady. Tests are all multiple choice, but sometimes can be a bit tricky. Sometimes tells long stories, but also some interesting ones. You can pull at least a B by just studying your notes, You will need to do some reading to get an A
She is a very nice lady (she actually reminds me of a really sweet grandma although she isn't quite that old). It is obvious that is loves teaching soc. She is always telling interesting stories.
She is a great teacher. I would take her again.
Fun prof, fair tests, lots of funny stories.
Great prof. she really does a good job relating real life scenarios to the world of sociology.
Her class is like a high school class.
Very vauge with assignments... not willing to work with students. HORRIBLE PROF!! I hate this class just cause of her!
I took this as a winterim. Very easy, the 3 hours flew by every day. Tells great stories, only had 2 papers, and all tests were multi-choice, group, with notecards. Always willing to help you or just talk with you. Highly recommend her.
I had her for 101 and it was so easy, I took her winterim 164 class. I was even sick for almost a week of winterim and I still got an A. Very sweet lady, and extremely understanding. I would reccomend taking any of her classes, but winterim was the best by far. Class flew by everyday.
Very nice and understanding lady, she seems to really enjoy what she is teaching. She is also very likeable with great stories! I recommend her highly!!
Prof. Crane is a very sweet lady..reminds me of a nice grandma! Tells lots of stories to help understand concepts. Lets you use a sheet of paper (front/back) on test... but you should still study b/c the tests aren't that easy.
Very nice. Tells good stories. Makes the class interesting. Get to use a page of notes for tests so the tests are easy
This class is pretty easy but it is just so F'ing boring. The 50 minutes seemed like days as I sat there through her stupid stories.
She's entertaining. The papers are easy. The tests I only did average on, but you get cheat sheets. Overall, a great professor. She tells great stories.
Great prof. She lets you use cheat sheets for the tests. Papers are pretty easy. Her lectures are very interesting. Not a hard class.
very nice lady, always has good stories. she makes class worth going to.
She let her personal political opinion take over
Fair teacher, Fair grader. Your grade depends on how much time you put into your papers and studying for your few tests. Her lectures are boring but some conversations get heated among students which was cool to see.
Very helpful in and out of class. Relates personal stories with what she is teaching about.
she's a fun person to have. tells lots of stories but they can put you to sleep. exams are easy due to study sheet you get to use but she's a tough paper grader. she is very understanding and helpful if you seek her out though.
uses her politcial views way too much and it irritated me because of her very strong liberal views ps dont rip on the president of the USA
It's like story time every time I go to class! It rocks
Marital Relations was a very FUN class to take with her!! Info was interesting, tests were not to bad (you get a note card). Really enjoyed her class overall.
Talks about her family constantly, has some annoying habits. E-mails out her power points, lets you have a sheet of paper for notes. Not a really hard class, but have some caffeine to stay awake.
It's perhaps a bit too easy, because you generally don't even need to read the book for her tests, but she's a nice women who loves teaching. I would recomend her.
She is by far the best teacher I've had since I started school. I love hearing her stories and I wish she could tell them all hour.
i love this class! she is a great teacher and has really great stories!! plus there are only two easy papers to write!!!:)!! take this class with her!
Good teacher, really nice. Not a lot of homework, just a couple projects and papers. Let's you use cheat sheet on tests.
Good professor. Always in a cheery mood, very helpful. She lets you use one sheet of notes on all exams including final. Out of class assignemts are not very hard. Go to class, pay attention and take good notes and you'll do very well.
Not a bad class. Kind of boring at times. Two papers and 3 tests. Tests can be difficult. Need to study quite a bit. Read the book. It will help. She likes people that talk in class.
Crane is very interesting and extremely nice. I liked her class a lot. Most of the time we watched movie clips or she would waste time telling personal stories. Her tests were easy because we could use a note sheet on the test. She is fabulous:)
Vicky is a good lecturer. She's very organized and her classes are not that difficult. Just go to class and you will be fine. She's a funny lady.
This is a fun class with a fun professor. She always asks for observations from the class and will tell amusing stories relevent to the material. The papers and tests are pretty easy, but it is a 100 level class.
I absolutely loved this class! She is such a sweet lady, and always has a good story for EVERYTHING. You get a cheat sheet for all the exams, and she gives you EVERYTHING on them. However, they do tend to be quite hard, so make sure you know where your info is. You only have two short papers and two exams. Groups of SEVEN for the final exam!!
She is a good teacher. The class can get boring but the information is useful. She also makes the class really understandable and the tests are easy. Not a lot of homework either.
2 papers- really easy. Tests are actually fairly difficult. For the final you can work with 7 people... A+! If you miss only 2 classes or fewer, you get a 1/3 grade bump at the end of the semester. I actually failed the first two tests and ended up with a B in the class... so I guess take it. Just let down with lack of sharing- mostly lecture.
Class is fairly easy, too much power point information. People just tune out. This are relevant topics but she does NOT make it interesting. Uses the term 'steady dating', good to see our teaches are up with the contemporary terms. Too many theories too, like we will memorize them. What does this mean to me, I ask.
Crane is a really good prof and very nice, even if the class is a little dull. Not a lot of homework, tests are relatively easy if you study - wish I would've made more effort in that class, I think I would've found it more interesting. Overall, I recommend her.
She tries to be nice, but is not very intelligent. Her assignments are very unclear and her lectures are unorganizzed. Her tests are REALLY easy though; you can use a study sheet and the final was a group final. So take her if you want a really easy class, but she is not a very good teacher...
Went through power point lectures every day; was a little boring, but super easy. Tests were easy as well; all off of notes, did not need to read the textbook at all.
She is super funny and interesting. Tells lots of fun stories about her life and family:) Lectures with powerpoints and its easy to follow. You get to use a cheat sheet on your tests and she tells you what to study specifically so its pretty easy. Two papers throughout the semester, but they're really easy and fun! Definitely recommend her!
She is not intelligent, for the final this semester we had to read 5 powerpoints on our own because she ran out of time and wasn't even in class the last week. She is nice but just didn't prepare us for tests. The class is boring powerpoints EVERYDAY. we never had any group discussion and had pointless assignments on D2L.
i dont know how people thought this class was boring or difficult!!! she is clear in what she wants, always available to answer questions if anything isnt, and you get a cheat sheet on your notes, full page front and back!!! she is sooo interesting, you can tell she loves what she does and it makes the class a lot more fun!
She taught off of power points which I thought was extremely boring. Her tests were easy though however I would never want to take a class by her again. She doesn't seem smart and is spacy and odd at times.
Sweetest lady ever. I wanted her to be my grandma. The class is okay, not super interesting like you would think, a lot more of who founded soc and the terms then how it works. easy class if you take notes. Can use an entire sheet of paper front and back on all tests. You'll love her!
Awesome lectures. Awesome professor! Power points are extremely well done with lots of cartons, quotes, and video clips. Loved her stories! No quizzes. 3 exams and the final. 50/50 questions were from text and lectures. 2 papers (3-4 pages) but lots of topics to choose from, so no worries! Textbook is wonderful, easy to read and follow. You may
2 major writing assignments. some short assignments for book. no quizes. d2l discussions. get to use 8/12 sheet front and back for all exams. took final exam in groups!!! Dr. Crane is a sweetheart. her lectures and powerpoints are very organized. i would take her again. class averaged a B, so you should do well too! good luck.
She is extremely nice, hmmm. Her tests are the easiest I have ever taken. Isn't listening to her talk interesting, huh? But in all seriousness, take Vicky Crane if you get the chance
Professor Crane is a great professor! She has a lot of personal stories that help relate concepts to her students. I learned a great deal about sociology in her class! Plus, she lets you use notes on your exams and work in groups for the final!
Boring class that you can only skip 3 times without getting penalized. You can't email her, you have to use D2L's discussion board. Even then she might not respond to you. The tests are easy since you get to have a cheat sheet. Her assignments suck. For the most part the class is easy but mostly a pain in the ass.
Class is easy but if you miss more than the 2 classes she allows... your grade will drop a letter grade!
She is an awesome professor! The tests are super easy, and like everyone else has said, you can use a cheat sheet. Show up to class, doodle on your notebook, make an awesome note card and ace the class! The two papers you have to write are not bad at all either..
She is awesome and interesting
She's terrible. Her test questions are worded stupidly and she puts 2 or 3 correct answers so even though you answer correctly, you're wrong. She goes too fast on the powerpoints so you can't take good notes. She makes these pointless (yet mandatory) D2L discussions, and on top of that, her voice, mannerisms, and personality are unbearable.
Professor Crane is a good professor, I usually looked forward to going to her class. You will learn a lot about SOC from her. Test questions can be a little picky at times, but overall it's not too hard of a class... but it's NOT an easy A, and I think most would agree.
Best professor I ever had. She is funny, but yet she is very wise and gets to the point fast. Her tests are easy, just make sure you know the vocabulary terms. Always wants to help students as much as she can. Loved her and the class.
Professor Crane seems to be very personal. On the first day, she was informative, listed off her expectations and made it very clear the importance of attending class. A previous student of hers told me, that if you stay focused and involved her classes can be a lot of fun.
All she did was tell stories about her family, and all the places she's been, and her daughter, and the time that she and her husband, and the...and the...and the... Yikes! Stick to the point!
Go to class with your own printed out form of the power points (get these from D2L). She tells alot of personal stories...you think it's going to be easy, until you try her test. They're worded wierd, and usually are just little details right out of the book that no one looks at. Papers are extremely easy, and the class is pretty interesting.
I liked Prof Crane. She was a lot of fun to listen to and sometimes had cute jokes to tell. Although class was manditory I didn't mind going. I thought the tests were hard, but that's not all the grade is based off. There's group assignments and 2 or 3 really easy papers. Final is a group test. Good class-I'd recommend her!
Nice lady. Makes everything interesting. Attendance is mandatory. Tests are hard- questions are very picky. She will ask the definition of a specific person! Read the textbook if you want to do well on them. Def take her though. She makes it worth it. (But show up especially on test days and turning in papers!)
She is an interesting professor, I like how she had many stories relating to what we were learnig. She is passionate about what she does. It is somewhat difficult to contact her. We are assigned only 2 papers and we occasionally have discussions online but we have plenty of time to get everything done. She tells us exactly what is on her tests
Professor Crane seems like a nice lady. Her class is interesting. Make sure you attend class because you are only allowed 2 absences! Don't forget about D2L discussions, and talk to her about assignments because she grades easier if you talk to her. Don't email her absences, and don't expect responses if you do email her.
Crane is a very fun professor. She loves what she teaches and always tells crazy stories. I did find this class to be very difficult for a 100-level. She expects a lot out of her students since most of them are upper-classmen. Still an awesome class though. She brought in vibrators. No joke.
She is a great teacher and very fun. She tells a lot of stories and her class is generally very interesting. The tests can be a little difficult as her questions can get very specific, but overall great teacher and class.
For a class where the professor stands in front of the room and rambles about her family, the tests are pretty difficult. I've never had a professor that stood in front of the class and indicated that she does her job when everyone does poorly on the exams because when people do well all that means is that it was too easy. Very backwards philosophy
Vicky was great. She tells a lot of stories but as long as you are a good note taker you will be completely fine. This is an introduction class and therefore isn't very hard. It does seem like she likes to talk about herself and never stop, but her stories usually have a valid point with the subject material or can at least entertain you.
I never even picked up my textbook from the bookstore. I thought this class was pretty easy. Kind of a blowoff class. Didnt pay much attention in class (it's kind of boring to sit through her powerpoints). A lot of discussions. Grade based mostly on tests, which can be very specific but pretty simple, and papers. Hard not to do well on papers.
Crane is a great professor! She does tend to talk about her & her family quite a bit in class; it can be annoying at times but it keeps lectures interesting. Tests can be kind of difficult, but she gives a TON of extra credit out, you've gotta be trying not to get an A!
Class is extremely boring, but tests are super easy. I don't think I've cracked the book once all year, and you can use a page of study notes. If you make it to all but 2 classes she also gives you a good chunk of extra credit. If you can stay awake through some boring lectures, be sure to take this class.
Vicki is one of my favorite teachers that I have had so far. Her tests are easy, she's interesting to listen to in class (I love her voice), and there really isn't any coursework besides one assignment per section. She's also very generous with extra credit and understands any issues you might have. TAKE HER!
Easy, if you show up to all the classes you get a 1/12 grade bump. She is interesting to listen to.
VIcky is a great professor! Tells good stories in class and makes it interesting. She grades kind of tough on the short papers but is very generous with extra credit so it's still fairly easy to get a good grade. Attendance in mandatory, can miss 2 in the semester though. 4 exams that are pretty easy (first two were online) and 4 two page papers.
Very humorous professor who likes to tell crazy stories about her family. All exams are multiple choice and there are two essay exams. Very easy to get all the points on the essay exams. Gives out a lot of extra credit.
Vicky is too funny. She tells great stories and makes class interesting. She is kind of a hard grader on her papers, but picks interesting books for you to read. I would def recommend taking this class with her. She will make you love soc, even if you hate it.
This class is a very interesting class and she does well at teaching it. It can be hard to pay attention to her sometimes because she has a very relaxing voice and the class is at 8am! The tests are also quite a bit harder than most people expect, but she does drop your lowest exam score. Overall though, really good professor.
Crane is an awful lecture teacher. She rambles on about stories that are completely irrelavant to the topic we are discussing. She is much too hard of a grader on papers and her tests are not a good or accurate representation of the material we covered in class.
Professor Crane is a very nice person but she gets off topic a lot. i feel like i haven't learned anything new in this class. She grades extremely hard on papers and tests. She talks about her family a lot, instead of the material we should be covering. She talks very quietly so be sure to sit in the front. She has a voice that gets very annoying
She is very hard to get a hold of outside of class. I have a lot of complaints but she offers a lot of extra credit to make up for her confusing exams.
Vicki is a great professor. All of the notes are online, tests are challenging but you get a sheet of paper to write notes on for each exam. She loves to tell stories about her family but they are all related to the concepts we're discussing. Makes lecture less boring. Offers tons of extra credit too and you don't even have to read the books.
The tests are all online but the most confusing tests I've ever taken. She is impossible to get ahold of outside of class, but she offers a lot of extra credit.
I came into the class thinking I would really enjoy sociology. However, due to her passive teaching style, I really didn't feel like I learned anything. She makes herself available for outside help, but whenever I went in, it felt like the time was wasted. She was very accommodating to me personally, but I didn't feel as if I was challenged.
Easiest class ever. The essays are difficult, but Professor Crane keeps her lectures interesting and informative. Make sure to write down everything from the power points, the quiz questions come directly from there. She isn't very clear about the essays, so that was definitely the hardest aspect of the class.
I took this class online, but she seemed to be a very fun professor. She really encourages discussion. Her exams are not always the easiest but she very well lays out what she expects of you. A very fun and interesting class even online.
She makes lecture very easy but her exams are hard. She is very picky on papers as well. Not sure if she changes exams every semester but the first exam was a group one. The other exams were online so you could look at notes and work with friends.
Super nice lady! Lectures are pretty boring but she does tell some good stories. Only homework is 2 essays which she grades a little tough. Also definitely have to study hard for tests! Overall decent class though.
I really enjoyed this class. Professor Crane has a passion for sociology, and you can just tell by the way she teaches. There are only 4 tests all semester and one gets dropped. There are only 2 short papers to write. You can also earn up to 20 points of extra credit! She teaches off of power point slides and they are available on D2L. Great course
Great professor, goes through power points quickly, but they are posted on D2L. posts study guides on D2L, can also use a notecard for exam. She is very passionate about the class, and very nice. Uses D2L very well, you can ask questions on there and she will respond. Very effective professor. Highly recommend.
The fact that this class is at 8am is 80% of the problem. I pay zero attention in this class mostly because all slides are online as well as the exams. The only reason I show up for this course is because attendance is required. I think she knows no one would be there if it wasn't. Nice lady, boring class.
She did not reply to any of the emails that I sent her. Grades essays like they are Graduate Papers. Seems more like a 300 level course. Talks too much about herself and not the course. Needs to update everyone with changes she makes in class. Overall, I give her a D-.
Prof. Crane is an outstanding professor. I learned a lot in her class and contrary to what others say about her sharing her stories, I actually enjoyed them. It made the material easier to understand and easy to relate to real life situations. Loved the class and taking an online one taught by her as well!
She was a very nice woman. Never had homework except the papers and tests. Talks about herself and her family for the whole lecture. Weird about people emailing her. Posts everything on D2L. Overall the class was very boring but if you go and do your work it'll be fine. Grades papers pretty strict too.
Crane is one of the sweetest professors I've ever met. She makes the class interesting by telling little stories from her life and does her best to help you relate the class to your life. All her power points are online and she let's you use a note sheet on the test. Overall If you work hard it's a pretty easy class.
Professor Crane was an okay professor. It was an easy class if you attended the lectures; however, she was very weird about responding to emails and seeking outside of class help. Do not email her. Also, lectures were boring and she would talk about her life during most of them.
She gave me a C on my essay because it was "too analytical
Took this class as a hybrid and it was very poorly set up. Went weeks without class with no structure or requirements for online to make sure you were understanding material. Online exams were extremely difficult. Her PowerPoints were worthless and the book was not helpful for the exams either. Too difficult for a entry level class, in my opinion.
She is a vary energetic teacher and funny as well. I enjoyed how she brought in her own life to the class lectures and felt ok making jokes. She doesn't give much for homework other then some reading. But her tests where pretty hard for me at least. I recommend you do the reading and pay attention. BTW, she is weird with emails.
In my three years in Eau Claire, I have never had such a horrible professor as Vicky Crane. Sure, her class is easy, but she never responds to emails, she never is in her office, she has absolutely minimal feedback on assignments and her grading decisions would make more sense if she picked letters out of a hat and assigned them randomly.
Vicky is an interesting professor. She was supposed to retire but UWEC needed her back another semester, so her work ethic is generally poor. Exams you can take with others, easy A. Most of the papers and assignments you can BS. I am going to get an A, but trust me, I didn't really learn anything. Good, interesting material.
She doesn't respond to email ever. She also never grades anything. She's nearly 2 months back right now on posting grades. Take her for online if you must, because you never have to go to class and can use online materials for homework and exams. just a good example of a tenured professor who gives 0 "f's" anymore.
Did not learn very much. She was clearly not there for the good of the students. She would tell us to look 100 different places before ever asking her the question we need answered. Then, she often gave rude responses. I get it teaches us a lesson but you are getting paid to teach us? At least don't make us ashamed for asking for help.
