Class was littered (and consquently hindered) by the constant barrage of the feminist literature we were forced to endure. Now while I do love the ladies at times it ceased to be objective and became a little ridiculous, still though got an A (easy as hell) so I recommend it.

She was a lot more accessible for help than all my other instructors. Her expectations were clear. Also, she grades on improvement, which makes you focus more on your writing than your grade. Check her ratings from DeAnza.

Very helpful and had interesting focus (on cultural and racial studies and literature). She kept my interest. The class is also pretty easy the way she spreads it out and especially as a hybrid class! Definitely reccommended

She's really nice and she's there to help you if you have to time to be helped. I'm horrible at english and writing and i would try to go get help but i had a job after school so it made it hard for me to go see her. theres lots of busy work but she passed me with a C so i didnt have to repeat.

The readings include various subjects which create interesting discussions between students. Vicky shows that she cares about students improving their writing.

Great class, I took it online and got an A. Just keep on top of the assignments and always email her when you have a question regarding anything. Oh and one of the key things is for the research paper go in and have her check it, this will save you so many points. Very helpful teacher and an easy class for English

Vicky is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She cares a lot about her students and is really helpful and easy to talk to. Classes are fun because they are just open discussions about the reading. As long as you read speak up a bit in class and take notes on what other people say you will do fine on the few essays she assigns.

The best English teacher at West Valley in my opinion! I was nervous about taking Early Brit. Lit. because of how hard the literature would be to understand, but Vicky explained all of the readings and certain lines from them so clear and made me want to read more old English literature. Ms. K is a great teacher! She grades based off your progress throughout the semester, which makes it a lot easier for people to stay motivated through the semester. She has interesting books that you read that have morality based themes which I really liked. She is willing to go out of her way to help her students. I highly recommend her!

She's a very helpful teacher and straight forward for an online class. However, the issue I had with her is that she claims to give extra credit to those students who help their classmates out by responding to their questions and though I was constantly helping classmates out I never recieved the extra credit to help my grade. she's okay for online

Ms. Kalivitis was great! I took her class straight out of high school and it wasn't too bad at all. It wasn't too heavy on reading or essay loads and overall it was a really enjoyable class! There is one group project though, so keep your eye out for who you may want to work with because you only have 2 weeks to do it and I got stuck in a bad group

Probably the best professor to take if you want to take an english course online. Lots and lots of reading, but you will learn a lot about how to write essays properly.

Very good professor for online English 1A. Lots of reading and discussions to do in a short amount of time (for summer course) but the material is very interesting and I enjoyed it! You learn how to write summaries and essays. Plus, she provides feedback on every essay we write. Don't hesitate to take English with her! :)

Vicky is a great professor. However, if you do excellent on your essays, that isn't enough. Not only she grades you based on your essays but also your participation points. Lecture was interesting so I looked forward to every session. I recommend taking 1B with her.

Stupid how wvc don't do plus and minus system. I got an A+ but got an A due to the policy. Easiest class. Require online discussion and Reading short stories and one novel. The reading materials were much more interesting than what I expected. There are 3 essays and they are relatively easy. Just do what she asked and u get 100 on your essay.

Loved her English 1B!!! Ms. K. is graceful and inspirational!! We analyzed life and we connected the analysis to ourselves. It made me understand some aspects of life and some parts of myself! I would highly recommend her class! We read WILD by Cheryl Strayed.

Not only is she attractive(as far as professors go) so it makes going to class worthwhile, she's very nice and VERY helpful. Books are easy to read, and pretty much holds your hand through out the semester. Easy grader on papers, but still demands you do the work. Just do what she asks you and you'll get good grades.

Vicky is amazing, and her class is one of the easiest I've taken. The whole class got to know each other through talking about what we read, which is rare in most English classes I've taken before. Great class, nice teacher, easy grading, simple assignments.

Very few assignments on a book reading, the rest are papers. You can easily pass the class with just acing the papers. No clear guidelines on what she grades the papers on except for the page requirements, but it's not hard to pass them.

I'm taking her English 1A class asynchronous this spring and she is a great instructor. She gives great feedback and has long office hours that make it a lot easier to get feedback. The class itself is not crazy, it is pretty normal and not over wheeling with the work load. I am taking her 1B in the fall! I highly recommend taking her class!!

It's a literary analysis, so get ready to read and critically think. Professor gives good feedback and holds optional zoom meetings to interact with the class and brainstorm for papers. One of the tougher classes I've taken, but I learned a lot :)

Professor Kalivitis makes English meaningful with very thoughtful assignment that actually make you think rather than just slog out a meaningless paper for. I love her so much for English1A in the summer. She provides excellent feedback and truly goes out of her way to understand what you write. In my life I have hated ALL my English teachers, she is the first one that motivated me to do better. TAKE HER IT WILL BE SO WORTH IT!!

Professor Kalivitis may seem like a harsh grader at first when it comes to essay writing, but she actually gives amazing feedback on essays. She lets you resubmit your essays and gain credit. Her class is actually very organized and not overwhelming but you do have to put effort into your work. Definitely became a better writer from her class.

Her class is definitely one you have to engage in, but if you do, she's great. Coming from AP, she was a quite easy grader in comparison and class was really helpful too. Great discussions in class, good feedback on papers, and just a great and supportive person overall.

Lots of in-class group work and it was very helpful in understanding the reading and improving our writing skills. 2 papers during semester and a paper for the final (the final was much easier than the other papers though). If you put in the time to go to class and write your papers, it's easy to do well. We read one book and some short stories.

shows care for students and genuinely tries to get to know them. gives clear lectures and helpful insight into writing essays. i used to struggle with structuring and analysis but her lessons were structured in a way i actually understood that got me 100s on both essays. great feedback and is always there for when you need help with an assignment!

I absolutely loved Professor Kalivitis! I was so sad on the last day. She structures her classes so well, I've made a ton of friends in that class because of her exercises. She cares about her students and will help them achieve the grade they want. She's such a kind cute little lady!If you have to choose a English 1B teacher, this is the one!

An easy A class, not that many assignments just some reading and discussion for some books which were actually interesting to read. She is easy with the grading, I wrote my essays within a couple hours and got at least 95s on them. She grades fast as well. Would recommend.

I was so surprised to see the negative reviews for Professor Kalivitis. She is very kind and personable and I really enjoyed reading Dark Matter and some short stories from Speaking with the Angels. Total of two essays which are not hard to do well on if you make an honest effort. I would definitely take her again if I could.

This professor helped me improve a lot in my writing skills. I have taken them with me and have applied them to current homework assignments. Loved reading the book "Dark Matter" by Blake Crouch. It was a great class to have for my second to last semester at WVC.

Sweetest Professor ever + actually cares for her students. Her assignments were straight forward and well explained, she even gave me the chance to redo my final with no late points. Im taking her class again next semester, she is the best. I am Professor Kalivitis' #1 fan. If anyone ever bothers this lady, I will personally deal with them myself.

She is very caring, and has informative content and lectures. There are a lot of discussion sessions and you will do peer reviewing etc in class. Not hw heavy but you will have to type papers discussing the books. She is somewhat lenient on attendance. This class is very social, you will make friends in this class that will last. Great instructor.

You need to purchase three different texts for this class, and they're pretty pricey new, but assigned materials are thoughtfully chosen. Professor Kalivitis is very caring and supportive, and the class is structured to help students succeed. I enjoyed this class, and I definitely feel like I got a lot out of it.

Overall, a really good professor, and the course content for both 1A and 1B is interesting. There were not too many assignments week to week, and only two papers. Most assignments, if you are late, she still gives full credit, and you can also redo the assignments if your grade is low. Definitely recommend her asynchronous classes.

I took Professor Kalivitis for English 1A, Spring 2025 and she was very accommodating when I was going through medical issues and gave the best feedback when it came to schoolwork! Workload was tolerable and I learned a lot! I loved the books assigned! She's the best professor I've had and I am excited to take her English 1B course spring 2026!
