GOod teacher, class wasn't too hard if you came to class and paid attention. You are able to use one 8.5x11 pg of note for every test/quiz as well as a calculator, so that helps tremendously! Also, homework is NOT required to be turned in. :)
He was overall a good teacher. He always did what he said he was going to do. He was honest. He makes sure you understand the material but only if you want to learn.
Very difficult material, but he doesn't help you AT ALL with it!! He never gives ANY examples in class, then asks for PROOFS on the exams!!
I took him for summer school and he was very easy. (I got a 100% on everything.) He didn't collect homework and he let us use cheat sheets on all the tests.
No cheat notes. He takes forever on the few ex, no time for us to ask questions on the homework. He does a lot of mental math, so he skips a lot of steps, some of us have to wait till he's done with the whole problem before we ask question, and still lost.
Great teaching style. Questions are answered when asked. Moves quickly but slows down if class is having trouble. I have taken two math classes with him out of 4 and his I got A's both times. Gives practice tests and quizzes so we are also prepared.
He has a proof or two on his exams, but if you have a general concept of what is going on and put something down, you should be oK. When studying for exams, focus on the HW probs and definitions of imprtnt pts./thms. Fair grader and liberal w/part.credit
Goes way to fast. Wastes to much time on preliminary stuff and not enough time on examples. Makes a lot of mistakes so that wastes more time. NO CHEAT SHEET! Still, he is good with giving partial credit and with the sample quizes/exams. But its not enough
wastes class time by correcting his mistakes... doesn't explain the hard concepts, and it doesn't help that his textbook doesn't explain them either... take HERNANDEZ instead, he's a MUCH better linear algebra teacher
He does go a little fast; however, he will slow down if the class does not understand or trys to repeat it differently. Does give homework and expects you to turn it in.
Wastes class time, picks the WORST book to teach from... I failed his class TWICE because of his impossible final exams and still didn't understand anything - then I took Hernandez... with Hernandez I learned a LOT, and passed with an 'A'!! TAKE DAN HERNANDEZ!!
Dr. Acosta is a wonderful professor. Although he does go a bit fast on his lecture, you can always request him to slow down. He is an extremely friendly professor and is willing to help you as much as you need. His exam are straight forward. Take HIM!! have question about HW? go to his office!!
If you study a little and come to all the lecture, u r gurante at lease a B. THere are total of 4 hw & 4 test. If you ask for help on hw, most of the time he ends up doing it for you. His tests are exactly like hws. If you get a b on hw assignment, you are most likely to get a b on the test.
Too fast. Needs to allow cheat sheet during exams.
Gives good reviews
goes really fast if u dont ask questions. but if u ask questions hes very patient and will explain things to u. hes got a math mind so he does a lot of work in is head. if u dont understand something just ask. he gives great sample exams to study from. homework is not manditory but.
He was hard to understand at times. He goes really fast during class but is helpful. Just do the homework and you should be okay. He lets you have a cheat sheet during the test. He takes role so you should go to class. The tests are okay.
Dr. Acosta talks, does,or teaches fast, but he is an understanding and nice Professor. I like his way of teaching because he provides us practice tests, finals and solutions;that helps students recognize where essential concepts of the vast information are concentrated and imited. Hence, his students do not feel behind and they learn more from him!
Teaches fast during class but will slow down during office hour. Homeworks are similar to the tests so no surprises which I liked.

Very good teacher, as long as you do the homework and his study guides you will have no problem.

MAKE HIM YOUR FRIEND AND HE'LL PASS YOU
Talks fast, class notes are important, available for office hours, but they are often packed w/students. Do the homework!
Great professor but you have to stay alert. It is precal, so the hard work comes with it. He does what he can, but still has to teach the load of material. Alot to learn in a day, but its precal. its just okay.
Very good teacher, as long as you do the homework and his study guides you will have no problem. He is very motivated and willing to help you after class if you need it!
its weird 'cause we had three exams and i scored a 79,82,84 and i ended up with an A in the class. But i'm not complaning!
This professor is super nice. The class was easy because I already took that class last year in hs. He gives you a review before quizzes so there is no way you can't pass this class. Very sweet guy!
Not an easy class. Even though he doesn't require student to turn in HW, try to work out the problems assigned since it will help and he drops your 1 out of 5 lowest midterm grade for being absent 2x. He's a very nice guy and you need to put in a lot of effort in this class to pass. I'm not good w/ math and just very happy to get a B in his class.
I got mostly B's on my tests, didn't even take 2 of the 13 quizzes he assigned and somehow ended up with an A. He is really nice-go to his office hours and ask questions or for the review for exams to get on his good side-trust me it helps!exam practices are 80% if not more like the real exams.
He is helpfull. very easy if you study somewhat. do recomend
really good professor. if you are good in math dont worry about taking notes. IMPORTANT do the assigments or exam review. YOu will be ok. if you are not into math. YEs, buy the book, put attention to class, take notes, ask questions, and go to his office for the final review for each exam.....The HARDERS TEST....No. 2. so, be careful..you can dro
Best professor ever, if you ask he will help you. STUDY the exam prep it will help you. He really cares for his students, Hurry up and register his class fills up quick. Weekly Homework and quizes and 3 exams and a final but it will help you very much.
He is a great professor. He teaches clear and tells the student exactly what he wants. He is available during office hours to help students understand the material. He also goes over most of the quiz question prior to taking a quiz. Exams are exactly what was on the lectures and homeworks.
he's kinda weird at first, but you get used to him. he's a really nice guy and very helpful. he wants his students to understand the material unlike other math professors i've had.
I was at a C then I got sick for two weeks before the final week before finals week. I wasnt sure if I would pass since I missed so much. He let me make up a test, he still graded on the curve for my attendence, so I still passed. He is so helpful if you ask and go and see him. He knows his stuff and just wants his students to understand and pass.
Great professor! Very helpful. Actual tests and quizzes are almost exactly the same as the practice tests and quizzes, so you should definitely do them. Really approachable.
He's very helpful, goes through step by step to help you understand. If you don't understand something just ask, he'll go over it try to make it more understanding. I gave him 5 on easiness because I tried my best to understand it. Didn't skip classes or anything, and practiced with the homework. Test/quiz are straight forward. NO TRICKS! he's good
Despite his nervousness, Acosta is a really great teachr. He's willing to go through questions and has ample office hours for students. Plus he posts study guides for all his tests and quizes. YOu have to try really hard to fail this class.
He lectures fast although I got used to it. Friendly and willing to go back in answer any questions in class. The subject itself is HARD to digest alone but he breaks it down to a much easier level of understanding. Always has office hours and will help. Attending class is an absolute must yet he doesn't make it mandatory...take lots of notes.
Professor Acosta is such a nice guy. Do not hesitate to go to his office hours. He is always willing to help. Do not miss class because he will drop your lowest quiz score if you have perfect attendance. Math 119a is a hard class, but if you have to take it, take it with him.
An excellent professor who goes to great lengths to make sure his students understand. The class isn't easy, but he makes it understandable, and he prepares you well for the quizzes and tests. He lectures somewhat fast, but it is nothing one can't get used to. He erases the board a lot, so watch for that. I would definitely take him again.
I took this course from Acosta some time ago (now it is Stat 482) and and now a graduate student and he is still available and more than willing to assist me with all my course work. Excellent professor take him if you get a chance. He really really wants students to understand the material.
Dr. Acosta is one of the best professor in the Math department. He knows his materials well. I HIGHLY recommend taking his class.
Willing to help students.overall easy class.Great teacher and knows what he talking about it.Do the HW it helps even though he doesn't collect it.
Very good instructor. Welcomes questions and cares about his students. He knows his stuff and goes beyond during his office hours to help you do good in the test. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
He is a very good instructor.I understand what he teaches well.very helpful.
hes very very very very helpful. extremely nice. and very dedicated in helping his students. his class is pretty easy if you study..
An extremely helpful and clear math professor. If you need help on anything he is always available. His exams are not extreme, but really do test comprehension of the material. Study, and you will do well, but he is also available for any questions you may have. I recommend this professor.
willing to help students and was a easy class
hes sooo coool!! i love this guy! 3 test and a final.
Professor Acosta is an excellent instructor. By far, one of the best in the math department. He takes an interest in his students, and I was even surprised at how well he knew a lot of our names. He knows the material very well and is very helpful and kind. Take him if you get the chance, take notes, do your HW, and you will pass. Highly recommend.
He is the best mathematics teacher I have ever had in my three years at this school. He is very clear and helpful adn wants everyone to pass. He is very comfortable with answering stupid questions that should already be known. Just do the homework and study group for the tests and you will pass with flying colors.
I love Acosta! Awesome teacher with a good sense of humor. Very helpful in office hours and gives you practice exams that are very helpful when studying for exams. He doesn't like to fail people but that doesn't mean he won't. He definitely expects you to wipe your own A**. =) Sweet man, definitely worth taking. Calculators allowed.no cheat sheets
hes sooo goood!! nicest professor ever. will help you even when youre not in the class! I LOVE HIM!!!!!! get him get him!!
Awesome professor. People say Calc II is very difficult but he makes it easy. He always gives practice exams and tells you which problems to know for the quizzes. highly recommended
Really helpful and understand the material very well. Weekly quizzes, 3 exams and a final. He gives practice exams before the tests. Acosta is awesome!
OMG!!! take him!! the best teacher ever!
Acosta is a really nice guy! He is extremely smart & that's the only problem.. if you're not a math person, it takes time getting used to his teaching style. TAKE GOOD NOTES, the h/w assignments will help with your grade & everything on the assignments are on the quizzes which are your exams. Take your time with it & do work often, you'll pass :)
One of my favorite professors. He is smart, funny, and makes it easy to understand the most complicated of topics. He will go back and explain something as many times as it takes for you to get it. He gives around 3 practice exams every test that are identical to the real exam. I would highly recommend him.
Acosta is a great teacher. People who don't do well in his class are the ones who don't put any effort into studying or into doing the homework. He tends to go a little fast, but if you ask questions he will go over the material again. I'm not a math person and I got an A. Take him.
I think a lot of students find his class to be difficult but if you pay attention in class, come to each class, take good notes, and do the assignments, you will be fine. He is really nice, answers questions, and is willing to help. He knows his stuff and I learned a lot from his class. I was proud of the A I EARNED in his class.
he is very helpful and makes class as easy to understand as possible. If you don't understand something just ask him and he'll go over it.
He's really passionate about teaching math but sometimes (most times) that passion overwhelms him and he starts going off without focusing on teaching his students. Many times he over complicates things and most students learn directly from the book or other students
Easy to understand though sometimes spends too much time on proofs rather than examples. His tests are not too challenging compared to other profs although they're very lengthy. His grading is also lenient (85% = A) and he gives LOTs of partial credit on the test so even if you messed up a lot on a question, he'd still give you 5/8 or more pts.
Had him for underbacc. math and he was kinda hard to follow. Quizzes everyday to ensure attendance and 3 big exams. If you pass the exams, you don't need the final! Textbook is more of a pamphlet and it's cheap. He can be hard to understand and sometimes he makes things more complicated but I've never had a good grade in math & now I do!
worst math teacher I've ever had. He would mess up on his own examples. talks way to fast. quizzes daily to ensure attendance. Makes topics more confusing then they are. Recommend going to a tutor after each session. However he's a nice guy and grades hw packets very easy.
Would not recommend if your not good at math. He's late to class everyday quiz. Talks quick. He would say one last thing and say like 10 other things. He is nice
He's nice, but goes way too fast when he's teaching. You'll have a quiz everyday, but it's open notes. Overall, it's an okay class but just stay focused and if you get at least a 88/125 pts on the 1st 3 exams and a 70/100 on the 4th one, you'll automatically pass the class with out taking the final or worrying about your quiz or hw grade.
Teaching can be confusing. Talks very fast, spends a lot of time checking and correcting his examples. Covers about 2-3 topics/class. No textbook, homework packet. Homework due date of exams. 4 midterms(if you pass all of them you pass the class and don't need to take the final). He's nice & will answer your questions. Open-note quiz every class.
Excellent! He tells you how to solve problems, AND goes through the proofs as well (for any possible math majors in the room). Provides a lot of extra credit opportunities! A little fast in his explanations, but you should be able to follow along if you do the reading or look at some youtube videos beforehand. Attending lectures is ESSENTIAL
Professor Acosta is a very helpful professor. He stops to make sure he answers any question that is asked during class and during the activity session. He may always be late and tend to lose track of time during class so sometimes the class falls behind but he eventually gets everyone back on track. I went to office hours every week and got an A.
You should try and find another prof. He is smart ill give him that, but the way he goes over things isn't very clear at all. You need to study on your own or get a tutor to understand what is going on, and he will mark you down for things he doesn't like you doing. Essentially he grades hard.
Horrible Board Skills, Learn material on your own. The test is a exact copy of the study guide. Do that and you will be find. Be prepared to learn on your own
He is a great teacher. straight forward and always caring about his students. I had him for 119A and 119B and I learned so much
He seems a bit disorganized during lectures, however, if you go to his office, he is very helpful and tries to help you understand the material. There is a bit of homework but his tests are based off of them for the most part and he gives you practice exams to help prepare you. Overall, a good experience.
Practice exams. Very helpful during office hours! The homework was helpful, but only to an extent. The tests weren't hard at all, but did cover lots of material. My only issue was the fact that homework is 25% of your grade! Be sure to get the book, as a lot of his homework problems come from the examples in book. Make time for his office hours!!
I really enjoyed having this professor. He let us use notes on both the quizzes and the exams and he was always really generous about partial credit. If you attend class regularly, he is also willing to work with your scores. I thought his teaching was easy to understand and I would take him again if I needed another math class
There are three tests and one final. He drops your lowest test score and replaces it with the final. He also drops your lowest quiz score. The best part is that he lets you use your notes on all the quizzes and 3 out of the 4 tests. With that being said, you still NEED to study, you cant rely on only the notes for the test. Overall he is awesome.
His exams are pretty tough. just go to his office hours and youll be fine.
this class is overkill! it took up most of my time. i had to teach myself pretty much everything all semester
His homework is very difficult and requires quite a bit of time commitment, so be sure to form a circle of friends to help each other out and visit his office hours. His tests are VERY fair, and he posts sample tests. Understand the sample tests and you'll be just fine. The homework is more difficult, so be sure to complete it well it's worth 30%.
Reviews are amamzing.
Mr. Acosta was a great teacher. The content was difficult, but he did a good job explaining things for the most part. Homework is difficult, but ALWAYS do it. It's worth points and helps a bunch on the quizzes (which are once a week) and the tests. He gives a review guide for the tests and midterms which are extremely helpful. I recommend him.
Acosta is okay. He is a nice person and will answer your questions. He is just a little confusing during lecture. For my intro to linear algebra class he just copied theorems onto the board and would change his mind ALL the time about how he wanted to word things, so write in pencil. He is an easy grader thankfully. Read and take good notes.
He is the kindest in the math department, cares about students, asnwers questions politely. there are 3 midterms and a final and they are all based on the exapmles posted online which is totally easy just needs some effort. I recommend him over all other math professors.
He is hands down without a doubt the nicest prof in the math dept. Yes, many students have said his lectures are too theoretical but he wants you to see how many of the methods were derived. And he is always in the office ready to help you til you understand and answers all of your stupid questions, including mine. Thank you Professor Acosta!!!
Highly competent. Lectures and tests directly from HW. Derivations given in lecture exactly what is needed; reviewers who complain probably aren't math major material, that's why. As for me, I'm taking STAT 410 right and am so thankful for the rigor A. taught us with in STAT 381. Bonus points for LaTeX'd assignments and respectful nature.
Fantastic and clear professor. The subject is hard (it's differentials and integrals and all that jazz) so you should definitely go to class. Answers questions politely and is there for the student; do the homework and the sample exams and you'll pass the exams. His writing is what I call "thin cursive" so sit close to the board if you can.
He is a great professor just make sure to pay attention in class and do the review problems he assigns(which arent mandatory) and you should be fine. Weekly quizzes, but they help you prepare for the exams.
Professor Acosta is by far the best math professor I've taken. Crystal clear lectures, and he is extremely helpful to students that go to his office hours. He always give test reviews before each test. Study the test reviews, they are similar to all the test. I highly recommend him for MATH 370A.
Probably my favorite Math teacher at CSULB. Teaches the material clearly, if your lost don't be afraid to as for help. Good office hours, has extra office hours before tests sometimes. Weekly 5 question quizzes which aren't very hard. Three Midterms and One Final. Participation will help if your on the boarder between grades!
Quirky guy - very passionate about math. Explains things well but goes over EVERYTHING. Get all your homework questions right, it matters; I didn't realize this till the last day when he handed back all HW's. HIS TESTS ARE THE STUDY GUIDE REWORDED. Study, do the homework, you'll get a B. What else - somehow got a C? Don't know how the hell how?
Calculus 3 with this guy was AWESOME. Vic is hilariously nerdy and loves everything about math. He can REALLY explain what your problems are about. He answers any question during or after class in detail. Posts test samples without solutions but are on tests. 3 Midterms and replaces the lowest one with the final if you have less than 4 absences.
The best math professor I have taken. EXTREMELY HELPFUL! Especially during office hours! His quizzestests are like his hw problems. Do homework problems from textbook and the ones he provides. Im sure you can get an A!
I could sit here and complain about his lectures consisting of mainly proofs and verification, which I will. The lectures are rough, and because he makes a bunch of mistakes in the process, taking notes is rough as well . With that being said, Acosta is a good prof. While his lectures aren't so clear, he'll stop at nothing to clarify, if asked
Lectures and homework consist of mainly proofs. Homework is much more difficult than the exams. Provides sample exams that are REALLY helpful (they show up on the exam.) Does attendance sheets. He is really helpful, if you ask. If you aren't a stats genius, office hours are a must. The content is very difficult, so I have mad respect for him.
Professor Acosta talks really fast, but is very clear on what he is teaching. He's definitely very helpful in his office hours if you go. His HW assignments are a nightmare, but his exams are not on the level of his HW. He provides sample exams that clearly show what will be on the exam, so there are no suprises. Definitely a great professor.
Unable to "dumb it down", the material is tough and the book is very technical and he speaks like the book which doesn't help the student, simply doesn't know how to speak in layman. Class was more proof based that it should've been, he expects you to know how to interpret proofs with minimalno examples. Impedes material from becoming intuitive.
Victor is seriously the best math teacher ever. His lectures go pretty fast but if you pay attention, you'll be able to understand. One hw per week and one quiz per week. Extra review problems are exactly whats on the quiz so do them even though they aren't for credit. Exams are like practice exams so do them, and you'll pass, easily.
Top teacher @ CSULB knows his subject well.
He is very passionate about math. very well respected. although at first I wasn't use to his teaching style but the more I pay close attention and ask more question, his lectures become easier to understand. He's very helpful and willing to explain things over and over again so you can understand. Do the practice problems!!
I don't know if it was just me or him, but this was a really really tough class for me with Prof. Acosta. I took Calc 1 over the summer and got a 96% in the class, now I am not sure if I am going to pass this class. The main thing is his lectures are the worst. He barely does any examples, mainly proofs. He is very hard to pay attention to.
Really good teacher and he really notices if you go to office hours. Weekly quizzes that aren't super easy but not terrible and they help keep you from falling behind. Doing most or all of the hw problems and copying the in class examples is most important. Spends a lot of time on proofs but you can just ignore them. Overall a very nice guy.
A great professor, very recommended. This professor is a genius - although he goes over ALL of the calculus 3 material, all his assignments, quizzes and sample tests are given in a way where you grasp all the concepts. Weekly quizzes are not tough at all if you go over the questions. He will answer any question you ask him without any hesitation.
He's sloppy in lecture, and assigns the most difficult problems for homework (weekly) and conversely tests you on the easiest ones on his exams. But he's very helpful and approachable, and will often prolong his office hours to answer everyone's questions. He drops the lowest exam score if it benefits your final grade. By all means a great person.
He's such a nice guy. You have weekly quizzes but he'll answer any questions you have before you take them. He'll also tell you what problems from the book the questions will be based off of. He makes both study guides and sample exams for each of the 3 midterms and final.
Hes a great professor. He explains the material very well. He gives out weekly homework which is quite difficult. He corrects it meticulously. He does take attendance, he gives out quizzes similar to homework. he provides study guides that are similar not the same but similar to exams. not a difficult course but requires studying.
He's a fast but clear lecturer. He assigns difficult problems on homework and review assignments for you to discover some neat things, but the exams are much easier and he allows 3 pages of cheat-sheets on them. He proves all the important theorems in class, which is much appreciated. He does expect you to have a solid foundation in probability.
He's the type of professor who will help make you understand to the fullest. He provides so much review problems that help prepare you for every quiz and exam. Not hard, but definitely need to study. If you prefer a professor that only talks about math and nothing else, this is the one for you. Drops lowest exam score if you have good attendance.
He is consistently late to class and posts things online way later than he says he will. He does not hesitate to test us on concepts he didn't have time to finish teaching. This is coming from a student who has gotten an A on all three of his midterms, so you can take my word for it when I say that he does not do a good job as a professor
He is incredibly unorganized and often says he'll do things (return assignments, post handouts, etc.) by a certain time and not do so. We were tested on material that was not covered in class on more than a couple of occasions - today was our final and yesterday afternoon he posted a notice telling us to go over sections not covered for today.
Honestly really enjoyed his class!! He assigns hw thats not collected but correlated to his quizzes and his quizzes are similar to test questions. He also gives study guides that CORRELATES WELL to his exams. Just do the work and study and youll pass!! You cant expect to do well in high level math without studying! Very helpful in office hours
he's just not good. I'm not sure why everyone here is giving him a good rating it's simply just not true. Get someone else, not sure how i passed.
His lectures are a little boring sometimes and he always corrects himself, but overall it's not that bad. For his exams he gives 2 study guides so you're not too confused on what to expect, it helps a lot. Exams are usually easier than study guides. He's really nice and don't be afraid to ask questions. Usually posts assignments late though.
Acosta seems disorganized during lectures because he constantly corrects his mistakes during each lecture and simply copies the textbook as his notes. As a student who had all A's on his tests, I believe he doesn't teach well as a professor at least for this course. If you do take him, I suggest using the textbook more often and go to office hours.
I liked this class. His grading criteria is fair and I appreciate how it's not solely based on exams, so there's not excuse to do poor. Also be sure to attend class bc if you have less than 3 absences I believe he drops your lowest midterm & lowest lab assignment. Homework was kind of annoying & hard sometimes, but exams are much easier.
His lectures are boring and disorganized and don't quite represent what is on the homework, which is long and tedious. Exams aren't super difficult, but the real horror is the lab. You just copy his code for two hours, until the end, when he tells you to figure out the last part of the code alone. Last time I checked this wasn't a coding class.
Made an account just to say DON'T TAKE HIM! One of the most disorganized profs, he's all over the place. Lectures are typically fast but goes over some nonsense OR skips the critical stuff. Three exams plus the final, and weekly quizzes. The pandemic made this class even worse, wasn't adjusting his style to meet student needs.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! Especially if it's ONLINE! He did not teach us anything for almost two months, while at the same time assigning homework and labs without giving notes or any type of resource. Save yourself from wasting time!!!
please find a different prof! it's impossible to decipher his handwriting. not only that, most of the time he arrives to lecture late. AND on top of that, he either posts notes very late or does not post them at all. save your money and time by taking a more coherent and organized professor
I never would've thought I would have a professor top every other professor I thought was awful, but Acosta seems to be quite the achiever. Especially when it comes to grading quizzes and exams, showing up to class on time for lectures and exams, and giving a helpful lecture. Everything is done at the pace of a crushed-snail. 14 min late for final.
He did not adjust to the online format at all. Long tests with little time, and nonstop hw. You will literally get multiple web assigns due within days of each other. He makes a ton of mistakes when lecturing and can't keep up with his own schedule. We ended up doing 3 difficult sections in 2 lessons to make up for lost time. Horrible experience.
He is by far the worst teacher I have ever had this man is slow inefficient and always seems like he's on ketamine I would never recommend taking him online because he would never show how the class how to do things properly. I would rather go WNBA game and cheer, I would rather be in church, I would even listen to Russ and that man is garabage.
Class started off shaky, most likely due to him not being used to online. There were issues with notes being unreadable sometimes or him being unclear. Despite all of this, I would take him again because he will happily answer any question or fix an issue you are having in the class. He even had a review session before finals.
With online school this class started off pretty rough. However, despite this Acosta did his best to adapt to the situation and make sure that all of our learning needs were met. You are expected to have a solid understanding of Calculus 1 concepts, so if you're like me and did not have a solid understanding going in, definitely get a tutor.
Professor Acosta is a solid choice for MATH 123. Study guides are hard, but tests are easier. The weekly quizzes are much harder than exams. There would be lots of WebAssign homework set up by the school, but he is generous enough to push back due dates as needed. During lectures, he spends time going over the proofs of the theorems/formulas.
lectures were boring and super fast-paced. every class went 10-20min over despite him going so fast. hw was insane, assignments due nearly every day but he would move it if we asked. weekly quizzes, 3 exams and final not bad as long as you study. picky grader on exams and quizzes
writes like a 5 yr old. Always 5 mins late. lectures 15-20 mins over time. Webassign every other day(20 probs). Quiz weekly. Assigns quizzes at the end of study sessions so you submit your quiz an hr after the class is over. I got my 1st & 3rd exam back week of finals. Drops lowest quiz. Replaces lowest exam with your final if it helps you.
He was an ok professor but wouldnt take him again. At one point we were pretty far behind schedule because he takes his time with lectures and when he realizes hes behind hell teach 3-4 sections of the chapter a day or 2 before the test which really screws you over.
I would consider Mr. Acosta a fairly good teacher. He is very generous with his time and doesn't rush the material. He also will push back due dates as needed. Follows along closely with the textbook so it is generally easy to follow along. Weekly quizzes are a little challenging but the exams are more simple.
Avoid this professor. This class would become your life. He gives an excessive amount of homework. You would always have a Webassign due, with over 20 problems each. He never posts his lecture notes, and grades slowly. There are weekly quizzes (25% weight). In additon, you have to attend weekly Supplemental Activities, which don't really help
His hand writing is terrible. We sometimes feel like archeologists trying to decipher hieroglyphics. He speed runs through sections. And he's disorganized too. Pretty often during the lecture, he'll backtrack because he made a mistake. Do not take his class. If its your only option, good luck. I heard he is better in person, than online though.
One of the worst professors. Super disorganized and will teach a new subject the day before the test. Cant read his hand writing and makes lots of mistakes during lecture. Take someone else before.
The workload, Webassigns everyday and Webassign timed tests, a quiz every week, he's always 2 chapters ahead of other MATH 122 professors so when you attend SA classes the content they will cover is something you've already went through. Handwriting = messy, Lectures = fast, he always says "this is easy" then goes through 3 lessons in one lecture.
This class is fairly tough and Acosta does a lot to make it more manageable. Exams are similar to practice exams, and have extra credit questions and cheat sheets. Assignments are curved; so is final grade. Final replaces lowest exam score. Only complaint is he does not upload grades to Beachboard, waits until end of semester and puts on myCSULB.
lectures are not easy to understand at all, calc is a difficult subject but he did not make it easier for me to grasp the concepts in class. I passed by watching organic chem tutor on yt, not by the lectures. if you've already taken calc in hs this prof is probably good for you but if you've had no experience, I'd go with a different prof.
Good professor that could be disorganized at times; would recommend taking him if you have to take upper division MATH courses for your degree, if you stop math somewhere in the calculus sequence you might be better off with a different professor that focuses more on application and problem solving.
The weekly quizzes and midterm exams were mainly things that he did not teach in class. You might as well look for the subject online and self teach yourself. His writing is hard to read and he teaches without actually going through the problem with you and acts like you already know this.
He knows what he's lecturing about like the back of his hand, but in a way I feel that he expects you to as well. Sometimes he'll completely gloss very complicated topics. His lectures are pre-written, so he can go faster than desirable. My issue is he gives a quiz every week; however he will not always provide proper resources to succeed on them.
Professor Acosta has good intentions for each of this students, however, his writing is ineligible making lectures and understanding the class very difficult. Weekly homework come from the textbook but alters it. I had to do an ungodly amount of outside studying to do good in his class. 3 Tests and 4 quizzes for me. Very nice grader though.
DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS. They are the same as the exams. Scored an 80 on the first midterm due to me overlooking the practice exam. Got a 92 on both following midterms after doing practices. Finished with an A.
Professor Acosta can be disorganized at times, but his lectures are worth attending to understand concepts better. Utilize resources like the textbook, study groups, and tools like unstuck AI for effective prep to navigate this class successfully.
Very kind and fair. Reopens assignments if needed. Grading is overall fair as well as exams. The course is tough tho so study, take notes, and pay attention. He is better than rated, just tough class.
He teaches well and grades based off what is taught. He rushes lectures if he needs to fit it in the last minutes, but if it was really rushed then he wont test you on it. He grades based off work shown, even if you get the wrong answer but close-enough work then you will get a lot of credit. Activities/quizzes every Friday and great office hours.
chicken scratch penmanship
Very disorganized, he would write out a problem on the board then halfway through he would erase it and change it up. His handwriting is terrible and you'll spend more time trying to understand his writing than the actual material. My friends calc course is much easier than his and their test was 1 page while his was 4. terrible professor, chalk it
he messes up often during lecture going back and forth because he messed up at one point and it would waste plenty of hours. sometimes lectures would get pushed back improperly due to very poor time management. it's not a very difficult class but you will have to teach yourself.
messy handwriting and goes through each lecture too quickly to understand the material properly but still expects you to understand anyways.
He is a really bad teacher. goes through material super fast and never explains concepts before writing. feels like hes talking to himself every class and goes through a lot of content each day so take notes. This class is mostly self learning and study so do practice exams and hw before tests. Avoid him please super time consuming and disorganized
