Dr. Camp is a passionate and well organized professor. I learned a lot. Not an easy A. Take lots of notes. He speaks rapidly. Do not miss class, or you will fall behind easily. Allows you to drop one test. Easy B, lots of extra effort to get an A. Tests fair, except final was difficult.
great teacher, great stories.
His class is very intersting. He is a good teacher, but he coveres a lot of materials. Pay more attention to the earthquakes topic (longest and harder). He drops the lowest score of the tests, and he askes for an assigment that is easy.... Take this class...an easy B+
Easy and interesting class. prof loves this stuff he teaches and it shows - kinda funny. Take notes every day easy A.
dr camp was super interesting. i got an a- and i never read the book (don't buy it, you won't need the book or the reader). be sure to attend every class and take good notes.
not an easy A, but can be an easy B. GO TO CLASS, TAKE GOOD NOTES, AND READ THE READER. Do not have to buy the book...I never opened it once and got a B+. Very interesting and clear. Has good analogies for those who don't get it the first time!
GREAT CLASS!! He tells the most interesting stories and really makes you want to come to class.
This class is really interesting. I learned a lot. He's a very good teacher. 4 tests..drops the lowest one except final, and an essay. Easy B I would say..but if you study extra hard..you would get an A. Take this class!! Don't have to buy main book, just the reader which doesn't cost much.
Very good teacher clear test and lecture
nice guy. his class is pretty straight forward. take notes everyday, study your notes and you'll get A's on the tests. and you definitely DON'T need the main book, not even the Reader. i got an A relying just on my notes.
He is an awesome lecturer. And was very helpful to all students questions, you can tell he truly likes his job. However I found the class to be much harder than other students, I guess I am just not that good at the science stuff.
one of the greatest teacher alive!he is very nice and explains everything well.his exams are easy if you come to class faithfully and take good notes.he explains everything well that will make you be interested with the geological principles behind the natural disasters.very good teacher; makes fun
The subject matter can be very interesting. Camp is very clear about what will be on the exams, just go to class and take notes. 1 easy paper, I like his style.
Nice guy, good teacher. Just not a very good lecturer. He is verry dull at times and can make you fall asleep. I enjoy the class - very interesting material, just boring at times. Take notes, and review. Paper isnt very difficult just dont procrastinate. I would reccomend
Very interesting subject, so it is hard to be bored. Make sure you go to every class it is a lecture driven class, and don't buy the expensive book, just the small cheap one.
Lecture class, 3 tests, 2 study guides, 1 small paper. He drops lowest test grade. I learned a lot. Do NOT buy book, go to class you'll get everything you need from lectures.
-Just take this class! it is interesting, he couldn't be any cooler, and if you study the lecture notes, you'll get an "A". his GA grades the short paper harder (40 pts), so don't skimp on it
Easy class, no book, 4 tests, lowest grade is dropped. One paper, which is kind of hard, but all the answers are in your notes. He's a great story-teller and a lot of fun. Take this professor!
Good teacher, good class, no book but u must go to class for lecture notes. Drops the lowest test. Easy B, but if u work hard and understand the material well you will get an A. The paper is graded by the GA's and they grade it kind of hard, so don't wait till the last minute to do it. Make sure u know specific facts on each natural disaster.
He is so passionate about this stuff its almost contagious. Great lectures VERY interesting! Go to class and write down everything he puts on the board. Easy A if you study notes and go to class. It's fun stuff so its not bad to memorize. No book.
Great teacher. I'm not into science, but he made it interesting, and he was very helpful when I had many questions. I felt his tests were difficult because every concept ties together and you have to know one before the other, but it also made it more interesting and challenging.Very easygoing and likeable.
i think everyone pretty much summed it up. hes a good teacher, no book, take notes and you will do fine. I got a B+. Very interesting and passionate about his subject. cool teacher. Class attracts a ton of hot girls.
Very nice professor, know his subject and make the class enjoyable. you can learn a lot while you are having fun the same time. Take him, you won't regret!! easy A too.

very, very great teacher! he is passionate about this class and that what makes his teaching style interesting. he's very energetic and the class isn't boring at all. i just attended the classes, did my paper, study the day before the exam and i got an A.. you can do it, too..
Camp made the class very interesting. Great class for Exploration Req. Go to class, copy notes word for word, make good study guide. Very clear lectures and very helpful
He is a great teacher! It's the way that he presents the material that makes this class easy to learn. His tests are easy if you put a little time into studying!
Not super easy but it is interesting. There was a lot of review from Geo101. It's a big class so not very personal. He doesn't make the tests easy at all. You really have to copy notes word for word since there is no book to fall back on. Don't memorize notes, really understand how to relate one thing to another or you will not do well.
i thought this class was much more difficult than people said it would be. he is interesting, but i found the tests very challenging. he expects a lot from you, and you really need to know the material well.
best teacher at state! very clear and to the point, also adds some humor into his lectures. just go to class and take good notes and you'll do fine. he doesn't require a text.
Interesting subject. Class was harder than I expected. Do NOT buy book, he doesnt use it!! Take GOOD notes or your screwed. And have a buddy if you miss class. Study guides will save your butt so make an effort to do them. But there is NO study guide for first test, I bombed that one and got B's on the others. Paper is easy, 3 pages worth 30 points
The class was interesting. I didn't like the tests (multiple choice/TF)--- he words them tricky or changes one little thing to make it false. The best thing about the class is that you don't have to buy a book.
Class was harder than expected. Lots of lecture everyday. Gives out studyguides to study before each test. Easy grade!
Don't believe the hype. this isn't a very easy class. Sure if you go to class everyday. But if you're a "miss a month" of class student like me, find something else. trust me.
Very good teacher, you will enjoy the class
Natural Disasters a great class for common knowledge. With detailed lectures and good note taking the test material is at your fingertips. Great class, even better teacher.
Great Professors good teaching Very understandable teacher. Excellent..... Take him you will learn lots of materials from him. Mr. Camp excellent excellent professors. There should be all professors like him.
Prof. Camp is awesome! He knows his subject very well. This class very understandable and knowledgeable. Make sure you show up to class EVERYDAY because his lectures come straight from his mouth and its not the same if you just get somebody elses notes while you were away. Tests are easy just make sure you learn the facts. 1 easy 2 pg. paper.
Natural D. w/ Vic Camp is HARD!! Honestly, either his teaching style works for ya or it doesn't! Everyone said it was easy but I beg to differ! Mr. Camp is sweet and very helpfull though. He really cares about the topic. All notes, tests and papers are the same from 1 semester to the next so make friends with someone who has taken the class b4.
I loved this class. If you go to every class, listen and take notes, it's a breeze. I had A's on every test, just by taking good notes. He is very funny and interesting to listen to. I recommend this class.
aww i love Vic! he's the coolest , nicest professor ever. very sweet and helpful, just take good notes and get an A. if you're not a good note taker and dont show up for class then i wouldNOT reccomend it. but if you do, and you can memorize alright, thats all it takes. oh, and look out for "vics rock". haha that was the best part of the class. :)
Loved him! You do not need the book. Tests are fully from lecture. You have to take good notes because tests come from exactly what he says, down to specifics. You have to attend every class. He is the nicest guy ever and funny!
Camp is the man, although he did go into MUCH more detail then the other Nat Dis professors. His tests are straight from lecture, no need for the book. Study the notes because his tests will be difficult if you don't. Otherwise, if you study its a cake walk.
Best Teacher!!! No book necessary, tests straight from lecture. Make sure you take thorough complete notes. Pretty much memorization exams. Class is very interesting though, and his enthusiasm toward the subject keeps you motivated. He's funny too!
Way easy class, he doesn't take attendence and the classes are pretty interesting. Going in i thought natural disasters was gonna be lame but it was way chill. Take this class. Don't need to buy the book, just take notes in Class
Camp is an awesome lecturer. Class was never too boring and the best part is you dont have to buy the book! Everyone at State should take this class!
Vic Camp is an awesome teacher! He knows his stuff. This is never boring and he has awesome examples! Take this class for your upper GE!
Dr. Camp was an interesting and funny teacher. He would draw upon life experiences to make the class more interesting and the topic bearable. I would recommend taking this class and attending all the lectures. Taking good notes is huge if you want a good grade in the class.
Camp is a great teacher. Nice guy and very easy tests... Key to his tests is to go to lecture, if you don't like lectures don't take this class because his exams are WORD FOR WORD from lecture.. No book. The upside is that his lectures are a lot of fun, very clear, and like I said Camp is a great guy, I'd take the class again if I could.
A great class for a returning adult student.Very clear, interesting, a bit of humor, lots of useful info. Must take class notes and study them. Would take class from him again. Overall A rated.
One of the most interesting classes i've ever taken. One of the best professors too. Taking good notes is a must. Funny guy. Take him, you gotta do it if you can.
prof camp is a great lecturer. i got an a in his class. no textbook just go to class, take good notes, pay attention. content is interesting, 3 mid-terms (he counts 2 of them), final, and a 2-3 page paper (super easy) definately recommend him
Camp's natural disasters class is awesome! he is so funny! This is a hard subject to teach b/c of the info amount, but the sequence he uses is perfect. highly recommend him, youll fall in love with volcanoes too!
Very interesting class. Tests are very hard (t/f, matching and MC). One paper (graded difficultly). I would defnitly reccommend this class. Its a lil harder but more interesting.
I like him a lot. He is very funny and has great stories about the topic your on. You do have to go to class because he doesnt have lecture notes that you can print out. But I still would for sure take this class.
Not to happy about his teaching style... Tests are hard. He's wants details... great I'm sure if your a Geo Major... Otherwise take someone else!! No text so taking notes and being there is a must...
really funny and is a great teacher. i loved this class, it was soo interesting and im not a geol major. His teaching style is great but you do have to go to class to get notes. Just take good notes and the tests will be super easy. I hardly even studied and got high B's on them. 1 paper that is graded difficultly but take him he is awesome!
He is a funny guy and makes this subject VERY interesting. There is A ALOT of info, but as an accounting major, I looked forward to this class everytime. Take decent notes and you'll do fine on the tests. He is a great professor!!!
dr. camp is a funny guy! go to class, he makes lectures entertaining. tests aren't too bad. t/f + mult choice and drops lowest one. no book needed. helps to have a friend in the class in case u miss notes. take this class- you'll learn a lot! good class
This was an awesome class. No text required. One paper and 4 exams one of which is dropped. Lectures are interesting if you like geology. Don't expect a study of just disasters in human history. Go to class take notes and you'll do fine. Camp is funny, smart, and a total hippie. Take this class.
Dr.Camp is a very helpful professor and his lectures are very interesting. You do not need the book-he puts study guides and other material on blackboard. If you show up to class, take good notes and use his study guides, you will do good in the class!!Plus his classes are fun and interesting. I loved it!!
Fairly easy class. A few tests and one paper. No need to buy book.
One of the best GE professors I've had at State! Very clear on his topic and knows what he is talking about, so easy to understand and you actually learn!!! Try not to miss class cuz his tests come directly from his notes, no need of textbook.
Really cool class, but lots to memorize. You get to drop one test and there is no book. Just show up to class and take notes.
very cool guy. makes funny jokes. class is ok. he actually makes natural disasters fairly interesting. tests are not too bad. get to drop one.
I had no interest in natural disasters prior to this class. I took it to fill my explorations and even though I'm an Eng major and was taking 3 Eng classes, his was my favorite! He is a GREAT teacher. Go to class, take notes and you'll be fine. His lectures are both interesting and understandable. He has mastered his subject and his teaching skills
This class is tough, he drops the lowest test but his exams are hard, too much to remember for just ONE EXAM. study guide q's not always on the test. NO TEXTBOOK so you gotta go to class and listen to his monotone voice (it will make u sleep)HUNDREDS of students in his classes, its HARD to see him during office hrs! DO NOT, NOT TAKE THIS FOR GE!!
Class is boring/sleepy (you Have to attend CLASS ALWAYS to get the notes BC there's no BOOK!),mind you FYI- I work and go to school at the same time so yeah. This class needs to get better, TOO MANY people, no time to see prof. in office. hrs! DONT TAKE IT PERIOD!! class topic is interesting, but not worth a drop in the precious GPA sorry VIC.K.C!!
1- No Book, attending class is required to get notes!FYI-what about students who work, got kids or get sick?! 2- BIG class, no time for off. hours 3- Too Much Info in the exams, hard to study for, poor study guide 4- TA took TWO months time in grading the writing assignment 5- dont get for GE credit, its a good topic think wisely,GPA is #1 priority
Awesome class- you have to go unless you buy the book. He KNOWS what he is talking about and has some fun jokes and personal stories to keep it interesting. The only class this semester I ENJOY going to! I go to class and spend like an hour studying b4 tests and will get AT LEAST a B+. Easy and entertaining and informative! Take it.
Camp is a great teacher. He made everything so clear(lost of visual illustrations), and even puts in a couple of jokes and personal stories. His class is big, if you go to the lecture and take note you will do fine.
Excellent teacher. If you show up for class, you will do fine. He speaks very clearly and presents great notes.
Excellent teacher, if this was not my last semester I would switch my major to Geology because of him. You are cheating yourself if you don't take him. He makes natural disasters fun and interesting. TAKE HIM!!!
Best teacher I have had at SDSU. Really into what he is teaching and makes students interested too. Dont need to read a boring book. Great class!!
so funny and makes the subject interesting. he knows a lot and makes things very easy to understand. i studied and still got B's...but most people do very well on tests.
I'm not a science or geology person but he taught in a way i could understand. He has the subject mastered and is sweet. I recommend him for natural disasters. Just go to class and you'll do fine!
this class is pretty easy as long as you go to class. All the morons who say this class is hard because they have to go to class are such idiots. don't sign up for a class you cant attend. duh. anyways he teaches to people who wouldnt be interested in it, and makes it interesting and easy to understand. i say take him, but def. go to class.
you seriously have to go to class! you'll feel lost & behind if you don't. a lot of information in one lecture. unless you have friends or a voice recorder. other than that no book, 4 tests (drop the lowest test score), 1 three-page essay. good prof., well structured lectures, funny sometimes. take him.
VERY VERY easy class if you attend every class. No books needed. Only 4 tests (drp one). Easy, organized lectures. Interesting topics. EASY A. TAKE HIM!
GREAT PROF! Don't need a book, just come to class, pay attention, take notes and you'll pass. Everything on tests is in lectures...
Vic Camp teaches with clarity and genuine interest. For a class you'll learn a lot from but not stress over, take this. There were three exams (one of which you can drop) and a final that is 50% cumulative/50% new material (medium difficulty). There is also a small paper that is not difficult. There is no book to buy! Interesting class!
You need to be a good note taker, otherwise don't take this class.
Vic is an AMAZING PROFESSOR! Class consists of four tests and one paper (which is basically a joke). The tests are generally pretty easy and straightforward. He is one of the nicest professors I have ever had and he is extremely helpful. Definitely take this class with Vic - if you don't like Geology you'll at least like Vic's sense of humor!
I love love love this class! He makes the subject matter extremely interesting and easy to comprehend. I highly recommend taking this class. 3exams + 1final + 1paper[which was nothing to worry about] Go to class, take notes, &enjoy!
camp is an awesome professor. he makes the class interesting and its really easy. classes based solely on lectures so attendance is a good idea. and no book to buy. he teaches slow enough so everyone understands the concepts, which was usually pretty slow. easy a and interesting class.
LOVED HIM- even though I ended up with a C in the class (one point from a B grr). But he nearly made me want to switch my major from Psych to Geol! The material was very interesting...I felt like I learned a lot. Must attend class and take good notes. Tests are all lecture- no need to buy the book.
4 Tests, drops lowest but Final is Comprehensive and mandatory. Gives study guides for each exam, has diagrams on blackboard, really fun class. Will answer any questions you have at the end of class. I studied the night before each exam and got A's and B's. Part of the fist exam is a take home 2 page essay that's pretty easy worth 20pts, Loved It.
Great teacher! He made me love this class. 3 tests, a comprehensive final, and a short essay. Pretty easy class too. Expecting an A in that class considering I've gotten all A's on all the tests. I highly recommend this class to fulfill a GE Explorations. Easiest way to get that done.
Absolutely loved this class. I almost wanted to change my major to something centered around disasters after attending. You never have to open a textbook, the tests are all off his lectures. He is very easy to understand and is an all around good guy. I HIGHLY recommend this course and this teacher for anyone looking to fulfill a GE requirement.
3 Test and a Final. (You drop the lowest out of the 3 test). Class was very interesting and easy. I got a C but didn't really work hard. You just have to make sure you attend class daily and take very good notes. Studying a lot helps too.
AMAZING CLASS.
I would highly recommend this class. Camp made the class so interesting, he definitly knows what he is talking about. The class was great, I LOVED IT. The tests are super easy if you go to lectures. There is a short paper and 4 tests, one which is dropped, but cannot be the final. Gives study guides and puts up diagrams of Blackboard.
I loved this teacher. 4 test, only 3 count, one essay. NO BOOK!!!!!!!! lectures are extremly important, make a friend. Camp makes each lecture interesting and you ll want to go to class.
Very interesting class. 100% lecture based. No book. Go to class, study for every exam and you should do fine. The paper took about and hour to type up, but you have to have the lecture notes to complete it. Take this class!
Great class and awesome teacher. I am a psych major and seriously considered switching to geology! Very interesting and easy. NO BOOK, just take lots of notes. One paper, but it's easy. Highly recommend.
The teacher is very energetic and loves the material he teachers. presents it clear. The study guides are not that helpful. no book, no homework. 1 paper that takes 1 hour to do. Take this class, you will easily pass.
Great teacher! I loved this class. No book, just show up to the lectures and take good notes. 4 tests including the final and the lowest is dropped. I think he teaches this class mostly for fun and he wants you to walk out knowing more about the world you live in. I enjoyed it.
Never went to class. Had the notes handed down to me from the semester before got a B. If you want to try you can. If you want to cram, you can. No textbook use. It's somewhat interesting. If you need an explorations or just need this class in general... TAKE THIS ONE.
BEST PROFESSOR AT STATE! He really knows how to teach at a fun and understanding level. TAKE HIS CLASS AND YOU'LL LOVE IT! I'm not even a geology major but he made it so interesting! 3 tests, 1 quiz, and final... drops lowest test score!
Best teacher ever!!! Very enthusiastic and interesting. Just take good notes and go to class and you should get an A. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS CLASS
he was one of my favorite teachers. i learned so much from him because he made class interesting. if you go to class and take good notes, you will be fine! only 3 tests, 1 quiz, and a final. he drops the lowest test score. he is great! TAKE HIM!
Doesn't take attendance, but if you want anything above a C, go everyday. I slacked off, and got a B-. Boring lectures, material is cool though.
This is an easy class to take for upper division G.E. I took it pass/fail, but easily got B+ on almost all exams without studying...should have taken it for a letter grade. The lectures are EVERYTHING, you DO NOT NEED THE BOOK. He is funny and shows pictures of almost everything he talks about.
He is a great teacher. He keeps it interesting. This class has a lot of material so attend class every day and you will be fine. I really think this is one of the most interesting classes that I have taken. MUST BE THERE EVERY DAY!
Very easy class as long as you go to lecture. No need for a book. 3 tests and 1 final drops lowest test score and a short easy paper. I would recommend taking for upper division GE.
Very nice guy. Very clear and easy to understand. Don't need the book if you go to class. Drops lowest exam, must take final. One small writing assignment. Highly recommend him!
lUv hiM.
Camp was really funny and tries to make sure that everyone understand what he is saying. Totally approachable and fun! loved the class!
This is a class where you must attend every lecture. But Professor Camp's love for the subject makes it that much more enjoyable. He's a funny guy and keeps the class interesting. He's very nice and very approachable and is willing to help his students!
This is the best class and teacher I have had at State. Interesting topic, no text book, clear lectures, and fun time in class. Highly enjoyable. I recommend this class to everyone. Go to class every time, take all the notes and study those and you will get an A. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Best teacher i've had at state. He's very clear in his lectures n you can tell he loves what he does, makes you interested in the subject too. I wish more teachers taught like him. He draws pictures on the board as he lectures so u can draw them out too without being rushed (like other teachers who rely on powerpoints nowadays) MUST go 2 class!
what an awesome professor! I loved this class, he is extremely helpful if you don't understand something and passionate about his subject, which makes class interesting. book isn't necessary at all, just go off of his lectures...I never knew geology could be so fun & he's funny too-great class I highly recommend it
Camp is probably one my favorite professors so far at state. He kept the class entertained and is really passionate about the subject. No textbook is needed, but you do need to come to class everyday because notes are almost identical to tests. Take him! He's great.
Great teacher! Take his class! He's funny and very interesting! Take good notes because the book is never used.
vic is very helpful with his students.. just follow his study suggestions
Professor Camp is great! You don't need to buy a book, but you must attend class to get the notes. There are 4 tests (he drops the lowest) and they are very straight forward - just study the notes and you will be fine. He is also very nice and entertaining, and the information is very interesting. Definitely one of the easier GE classes!
Professor camp is AWESOME!!! He gives funny, detailed lectures and you must attend class in order to get the notes. Since there is no book, its all based on CLASS NOTES. But going to class is fun and flies by because he makes the class interesting. Tests can be tricky, but if you study your DETAILED class notes, you will get an A or easy B.
The best prof. I've had at SDSU. Very funny and interesting. You don't have to buy the books if you attend the lectures and take really good notes. 100% of all the exams are from the lectures which are really cool anyway. 4 scantron exams (lowest grade dropped) and short 2-3 page paper. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Awesome Prof!!! He was really good about explaining things, and funny. I am extremely glad I took this class. The information is useful for years to come. Attendance is not taken, but in order to get a good grade, go to every class and take notes!!!
Camp is great! He makes lectures pretty fun and is very organized when he is giving you the information. The only downside is that there is no extra credit but he lets you drop your lowest test grade.
Camp is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He made a subject I cared nothing about fun and interesting. There is a lot of info on his tests, so keep good notes. Attendance is not mandatory, but you need to go for class notes, because that is all that is on the tests. I recommend him to everyone. Great, great teacher.
Great professor! Book is not required, attendance is mandatory because you'll need the notes. 3 exam + final you can drop your lowest and 1 paper. Hes funny and make learning natural disaster so much better! awesome class with awesome professor!
Such an awsome professor! He really is an intelligent man so you trully feel youre receiving a great education. No Book. But attendance is mandatory, each class covers so much info. Don't type your notes, write them, and include any pictures or examples he gives. Go over your notes at the end of each week to keep it fresh in your memory.GREAT PROF!

BEST PROFESSOTR I'VE EVER HAD AT SDSU. He made me love Geology! If you go to class and take good notes you will easily get an A in the class.
I didn't think he was as great as everyone raves he is, but the class wasn't too bad. You don't need a textbook, but you need to go to class! Don't be one of those annoying class wide emails asking for notes! Sorry, college kids don't care! Especially because with all the drawings he does in class, its impossible to take notes on the computer.
Camp is a great professor and helpful if you need it. Easy to earn an A if you attend lectures, write good notes, study, and aren't an idiot. Funny, laid back, and most importantly intelligent. Loves his work and you will, too. We need more professors like him! Syllabus--> http://pastebin.ca/1751550
Don't buy the book because for one he tells you not to and two, he is like a walking textbook. Go to class because his tests are straight from his extensive lectures. He's not really easy but he's really really good so the class is enjoyable. My favorite class and this was just an elective.
I strongly recommend taking Camp, not only is he passionate about the subject but he is extremely helpful. I missed my final because I slept in and out of the kindness of his heart he let me take it an hour late. Other then that, great class 3 tests (drops lowest one) and a final. Everything is from class notes.
Loved this class, I could listen to his lectures any day! It feels like a friend is telling you an interesting story. Exams are based off his lectures, so don't miss class. He drops the lowest exam besides the final and there's one easy paper to write. Tests get progressively harder so do well on the 1st one!
He made this subject very interesting. Actually had me looking forward to going to class. But you have to go to class. Everyone on the test is directly from the lecture...he does not use the book at all. If you miss one class then you missed a lot! There are 3 exams and a final. The final is half cumulative.
Prof. Camp is an awesome prof, he makes his lectures so interesting and hes been a lot of places around the world(tells stories). Hes funny too. Go to class though, tests based on all lectures, no book. Prof. Camp in intelligent and knows his stuff! He also has made me interested in natural disasters and I feel better understanding them.Great Prof.
P-WAVE!! Haha! Dr. Camp is very knowledgeable about the course. It's almost unbelievable. Overall, he's VERY organized, clear with the topics, and funny. Tests are based on lectures, so be sure to attend classes. I wish this class was offered everyday. :)
Great teacher. Grade is completely test based. If you go to class, take notes, and study you'll do fine on the tests. He's enthusiastic and you get to learn some really interesting things. He also has a good sense of humor.
Great teacher. The class is easy, but attendance is necessary if you want to do well in the class. He doesn't use power point, only talks and jots down a few things on the chalkboard. He draws A LOT of pictures so paying attention is necessary too. Write everything he says 3 exams (drops lowest) , a final and 1 paper is what your grade is based on.
Camp is definitely excited about geology. You do not need the book. His notes are verbatim, year after year. He drops one of the tests.
Very smart professor. Knows everything! No book and attendance is not mandatory. 3 tests and the lowest is dropped, one easy paper and a final. I got an A and if you can't get a B in his class you shouldn't be in college
Hated this class. Get ready to spend each class drawing pictures.
Dr. Camp is AMAZING! I am a bit bias because I love geology, but he makes class so interesting! Great lectures that are easy to follow. He has traveled the world and tells great stories that relate to the topics learned, he also has a great sense of humor. Study guides are given before exams- attend class, take good notes and study, you should get
Amazing course! Camp is a super nice guy, helpful and all of his notes will be directly on the test. Going to class is very helpful. The information is very interesting and relevant to events occurring all the time. Definitely take him.
Camp is awesome! He made class extremely interesting with all his stories and examples of each natural disaster. It wasn't hard to pay attention. Even though we didn't use a text you NEED to attend class if you wanna pass the tests. They are ENTIRELY based on notes. Camp is funny and really nice. He drops your lowest test score at the end.
He has a way of taking the most complicated subjects and making them simple and clear enough for any one to understand. Uses real life examples to help students understand. Gives good lectures with drawings which are extremely helpful in studying. 3 tests, lowest dropped, 1 final, 1 paper. Attend class, as there is no book, you need to learntheinfo
Professor Camp is the best teacher I've had at SDSU! I always looked forward to attending his class because he would make his lectures very interesting and add funny jokes to keep the class awake. He cares for his students and is always willing to help. I recommend this teacher to anyone interested in geology
Camp is the man! Great GE class to offset a heavy workload. No text, just lecture, one written assignment that is cake and tests. Straightforward but you HAVE to go to class to get lecture notes cause tests are straight from them. A lot of interesting real life application that is good to know. Funny and entertaining prof. who enjoys teaching! A+
Lecture based tests, 1 paper, 1 final (optional if you did well on the other 3). Awesome professor.
good luck! i took this class bc i read comments thinking ok sounds great! noT IF U TAKE THIS CLASS GOOD LUCK! MAY GOD BE WITH U! i asked him for help he said write ur notes again and again study alone no flashcards. that was my help '_'i was told he changed his tests curriculum this semester compared to last. like i said god be with u!
Honestly for a 3 unit GE class. This was a lot of work 4 exams and a short paper. Exams are straight out of lecture no book needed. Prepare to draw through out the whole class. I wouldn't recommend him unless you go to class and take good notes.
Camp is the best. This class was an easy class. However if you are not good at taking good notes and attending class, then I would not recommend this class. You MUST attend class because the tests are based on lecture (no book for class). The test are right from lecture. Great Professor!
Dr. Camp is an awesome teacher!! i always looked forward to attending his class. he is super smart and really knows his stuff! there is no textbook, no homework, there are 3 exams and a final. be sure to attend every lecture because u dont wanna miss important info that could be on the test. go to office hours if u need help! LOVE Dr. camp!
Interesting class but I felt it was a little too much work for a 3 unit GE class. If you want an A, plan to study for a couple days. Day of if you want a B. Make sure you take good notes!
Easy class, very very interesting. No book, everything is based on his lectures, which are hand-written on a chalk board. Before the exams, make sure to print out the diagrams he provides on blackboard. If you take really good notes (go to every class) and make a thorough study guide for the exam, you should get an A.
Prof. Camp is, hands down, one of the "best" professors that I've ever had. Previous student ratings and comments clearly speak for themselves. As stated, no text is required, but note-taking is essential for success as tests are driven strickly from lectures. The only paper is worth only 20 points and has virtually no bearing on the final grade.
Hes a good teacher. Can be funny. Very willing to help u. But class is not as easy as ppl make it sound. 3 tests + final. drops lowest. 1 paper. Tests get progressively more difficult but overall are not too hard. But like i said, not as easy as ppl make it sound. Requires lots of studying, especially for a 3unit exploration. I didnt do well.
MUST GO TO CLASS> HE IS NICE TEACHER.TESTS U NEED TO STUDY FOR REVIEW MATERIAL END OF WEEK> VERY DIFFICULT professor especially for a 300level class. good luck if u take him! If you are not taking too many classes take him because this class is time consuming!! study study study
AWESOME class!! This is a must take for an upper division GE. He is one of the best professors I've ever had and the class is so relevant! I looked forward to this class every week!
Definately one of my favorite teacher and classes of all time. Class is super interesting and not the boring lecture you usually can expect. its necessary to attend class. since theres no book all test questions come from his lecture. I strongly recommend taking this class!
I love his style of teaching - old fashioned chalk board. Geography is so much easier to understand when a professor doesn't just read off text-laden powerpoint slides to you. Definitely take natural disasters with him if you can, you will learn a lot! Don't need a textbook, just go to class and take good notes.
Professor Camp is a great teacher! he is very knowledgeable on the subject. You MUST go to class and take good notes. but as long as you take the notes & draw the pictures, and actually study the notes you will get an A. good GE to take
This was an interesting class, but it was hard as hell!! He's test are extremely difficult. Many people I know barely got C's in his class. No book needed, but you have to study every day and write down everything he says.
Great professor, class was pretty hard though. No book, you need to write down EVERYTHING said/drawn. The tests are easy if you pay attention and study your notes. Make sure to study the places/events, they are important on the tests!
He is very knowledgeable. No powerpoints, just lectures and writes key words on the board. You HAVE TO GO to class and take good notes to pass. If you do, the tests will be easy, and the only homework is one short writing assignment. He gives a study guide for each test.
This class was the easiest class I have ever taken, but don't miss any classes at all. The key to an easy A is note taking. Everything he writes down, draws, and talks about, write it, study it, understand it, then re-study it. If you do that, I guarantee an easy A. He drops lowest test. My 3 test scores were 86, 99, 95. 1st test I was sick.
Just pay close attention even if you think his story is fun and entertaining. It will be on the test! Learn to relate the disaster with the location and remember all the drawings!!
Take professor Camp! you wont regret it! He is easy to understand and make sure you pay attention! You are guaranteed an A if you take good notes! Look at the study guides but also have a good understanding of everything else! He will drop your lowest test score! If you do well in first 3 you wont have to take the final (: no book needed!
Classy and funny guy. If you can go to class, take notes and understand them, it's an easy A. It sounds bad, but the tests are so straightforward that it'd be hard not to if you get it. If you don't plan on going to class or have a friend to copy notes from, don't take it though. I'd take him again in a heartbeat.
Didn't have a clue going in to a class covering this subject. He made it very interesting and I learned alot. His tests follow the lectures, go to class, take notes and you will do well! No text book required.Great Teacher!
AMAZING MAN! Loved his class, he is very knowledgable and caring. No book, just tests on his lectures. A geninuely great class, I wish I could have him for more classes!
Dr. Camp is very passionate about his subject and teaches in a very clear manner. I took this class as an explorations requirement, I had no real interest in GEOL. However, he made it interesting and I enjoyed the class and passed with a B+! You have to attend every class to get the notes, he does not lecture from the book! But it is enjoyable.
Dr.Camp is am amazing professor! The way he teaches this subject will keep you interested. His class consists of 3 exams, 1 final and 1 take home quiz/paper. He will drop 1/4 tests so you can skip the final if you're happy with your grades on the 1st 3 exams. Easy to get an A as long as you go to lecture and take good notes! Must go to lectures!
Unless you are delighted to learn about natural disasters, I would not recommend this course. It is 100% lecture-based, no PowerPoint slides to study from. He's a nice guy and drops your lowest exam score. But very, very boring class and uninteresting course material.
Nice, Passionate guy. Tells really interesting stories with a lot of "pathos". But I feel the belief that it is an easy "A" is a little overused. While his tests are fairly simple, he uses questions straight from lecture. So unless you are going to class every day/ staying awake/paying attention-I'd say its more easy as a whole than "A" wise.
Great Teacher!Lots of examples - visuals. Really made the subject tangible & easy to understand!
THIS PROFESSOR IS AMAZING! whether you are taking him for a exploration or a requirement this class is super interesting. he is very help full and plays power points after he is done with a topic. there is a small 2 page essay that is not difficult and 4 test which he drops the lowest one. you wont regret taking his class.
My favorite professor of the semester! His passion and love for what he teaches is apparent. He makes his lectures interesting and tells fantastic stories. Book is not mandatory to buy (which he explains the first day of class) Going to class is not mandatory but essential to passing the tests.
He has his own curve. Great class. If u went to most lectures or got notes from other students you will be fine. He really enjoys teaching this class
Hate geology, loved this class! Camp is probably the best professor I've ever had. He's extremely knowledgeable and realistic in his expectations. Does a great job at breaking down complex material into an easy to understand format. Keeps the class interesting with great visuals, stories and light humor.
He is honestly my favorite professor so farHe is truly passionate about what he teaches. Go to all the lectures and take really good notes, his tests are totally lecture based. Dont buy the book. I definitely recommend him! Wish he offered more classes for me to take!
Professor Camp is a really nice and funny guy. He seems to enjoy teaching this class. It is possible to get an A or B if you really start studying the material a couple days before and memorize it all. He sometimes does get pretty specific on the exams which makes you question yourself. I ended up with a B but could have got an A if I tried harder.
This class was a breeze, if you went to class! Attendance is mandatory. I liked to record lecture so I could go back and review anything I may have not caught during class. Make flash cards and you'll be fine!
By far the best teacher I have had at SDSU. I am a business major and taking this class almost made me switch my major. He makes every topic clear and to the point. Copy down his pictures that he draws and study those and you will do well. He cares to make you understand and you will learn a lot. By all means TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!
Attendance is a must if you want to pass. Takes lot of notes and memorize the blackboard supplemental info. A lot of info, and lot of memorization. Camp is very passionate and class time goes by fast.
no book for class, based only off lecture notes, gives a study guide, 4 in class exams and 1 take home quiz which is just a paper. he loves what he's teaching and it shows, makes silly jokes to keep us entertained, not always too interesting though, take good notes and use online resources and you'll be fine. you learn material as he teaches it.
Show up and everything on lecture is on the exams. No Book, he drops your lowest test score out of 4. Very interesting class.
I wouldn't take ND with him. He is slightly monotone and i got bored easily. Also his test are strange; he wants you to study a whole bunch of stuff but then only tests you one a couple of them and dome details are so small that it's like, seriously? He just lectures... and then 4 test, drops lowest of them, excluding the final and then one paper.
Great professor!! I recommend his class is very interesting. Don't use book just make very good notes and go to class because each class is full of info. Study the guides he gives!!! I loved his class got an A+
Even though I rarely went to class, when I did, I loved it. Camp is a wonderful lecturer and truly loves the subject. He is crystal clear on the material. I took it CR/NC so it was lower on my priorities but I actually enjoyed it despite having no interest in geology. 3 tests (1 is dropped), 1 assignment, and a final. Easy. Go to class and its cake
I liked Camp because he was very clear in explaining everything and he draws pictures to go with the notes which was very helpful when studying. It is a tough class, exams are hard. But I found it interesting.
This is a great professor! He is really enthusiastic about his career and the material that he teaches. No textbook needed here, just good notes from his lectures that will be used for his tests. Tests are relatively easily if you went to class. Easy and fun exploration if you need it! Best class I've taken at SDSU.
I thought this class would be easy based on the reviews, but it was far from it. No textbook, so you have to completely rely on your note taking skills. Very knowledgeable and passionate professor, but tests were way too specific and the final was twice as difficult as the midterms. Avoid this class, unless you love studying/take great notes.
Prof. Camp is an amazing teacher. You should have some prior interest in earth and natural disasters prior to this class. I took this class about 4 years ago, and to this day I use knowledge I learned from this class when I hear about natural disasters. No text book, all notes. Take great notes, show up for class, listen to him, and you will pass:)
Best professor I have had at State, best class I have taken in my life. This guy explains everything in the form of a story. Extremely visual and creates suspense. This guy deserve awards. Lots of them. Anyways, no need for a textbook whatsoever, just show up to class ready to listen to some awesome stuff. Thanks Vic!!
Professor Camp is AMAZING. Makes the material easy to understand and enjoyable to learn. No book, so its all based on notes. Its a lot of note-taking/studying but worth it for an interesting topic and great professor. Thanks Vic! :)
I took this class just to get a GE credit taken care of. I loved Professor Camp, he is an amazing teacher. I would recommend this class to anyone.
Good teacher. Interesting topics. Draw his pictures and use his study guide and you will do well. Oh and he drops your lowest test grade which is cool.
straight forward. he gives great lecture, practically writes your notes, detailed study guide. 4 exams including the final (lowest grade dropped) and 1 2pg paper.. TAKE HIM!! i loved it!
He's a great professor. The class was extremely difficult for me. However, he consistently gives opportunities to help you. Make sure you take good notes in class.
Such a great class! Professor Camp is so so so nice and passionate about his subject! No textbook, all the info you're tested on is straight from notes you take in class, but everything is crystal clear! I will actually miss going to this class and I've told all my roommates to take him next semester! Vic is like your super sweet, funny uncle.
Attendance is not mandatory but you need to go to get the notes. No book. 3 midterms 1 final and 1 2 page paper. Drops lowest test score. All material on tests are in the notes he gives. Great teacher and I learned a lot. Make sure to take good notes and to pay attention and you'll get a good grade
Take notes in every class, attend all classes and take notes even when he is just speaking and not putting anything on the board. Study all of his notes. Very interesting material and good teacher but exams can be a little tough. 2 page paper, 4 exams and drop lowest score.
Professor Camp is awesome! He makes very complex material easy to understand. No textbook, just a lot of notes and pictures he writes himself for you to copy. Take advantage of that and study them well! 4 tests with lowest score dropped and 1 two page paper. Definitely recommend taking him for your upper division GE.
Although this class is difficult it's interesting and you will succeed if you put the effort into the studying and come to class for the notes. The study guide that he gives is concise and thorough so you will pass if you know everything that is on the study guide! Drops your lowest test score so thats always a plus. I learned from him!
He's an incredibly interesting geology teacher and although the earth isn't the most interesting subject he will keep you entertained. I cracked out on adderall the night before every test and got an A so for you normal kids study a few days before hand and attend all the lectures and take good notes that you will study and you're good to go!
Professor Camp is amazing! No book, but you have to attend each class because his exams are based on his lecture notes. Absolutely chill class. He drops the lowest exam, so if you have an A grade after your 3rd midterm, you can decide not to take the final. Also, there is a 1 short essay. I would recommend to take this interesting class.
Very easy A. I would say that this class was easier than many of the lower division GE's. He is very clear and concise. 4 exams and lowest one is dropped. Very short paper that is easy and not worth many points. Interesting classes and he will keep you engaged in class. Although attendance is not part of the grade, you must attend to get an A.
Passionate, funny, and well qualified; makes Geology interesting. No Online notes but nothing on tests that he doesnt lecture. Sometimes tough to follow bc drawings are sloppy & lots to remember but makes sense w/ Study Guides. Paper is odd. Felt like world was going to end every day in this Natural Disasters class, he really grabs your attention!
Very clear, and straightforward. There is a ton of info in each lecture, so go to class. I never even opened my book. One easy paper, and he drops the lowest test score.
No need to read. Posts vid lectures & study guides 1 wk in advance. Excellent professor who really loves his profession. 3 exams + final. Since I got an A on first 3 exams, I didn't have to take the final! 1 super easy 20pt essay. I woke up early on the days I had his class bc I looked forward to it! Almost want to switch majors bc of him.
What makes his class so engaging is that he's a great storyteller. Seeing natural disasters from human perspectives really helped illustrate geol. concepts in a way a textbook can't. My only gripe is: if you're hand-writing his notes, they can get a little disorganized. He switches between drawing diagrams on paper and ppt slides.
Professor Camp is very knowledgeable, and he tries to make his lecturers hilarious. The course Natural Disasters was fascinating. Take good notes during class, follow the guidelines for the study guide and you will do great in class. No textbook required. I didn't like Geology before his class, and now I'm thinking of taking more Geology courses.
I did the BARE minimum. I went to class. took the test. 4 test total and he takes your top 3. I got a B on every test so I just took my B and I was happy. If you go to class and study for the test a few days before. No reason you shouldn't get a B... maybe a little more effort and you will get an A. However, I could care less about rocks so...
Professor Vic is such a great professor! He is a nice guy, very knowledgable and a great story teller. There is 3 midterms (very very easy if you go to lecture and study guide) and the final is optional if you are happy with your grade so far. TAKE HIM, HE IS AWESOME!
Very good lectures just be ready for the test which are hard. He does drop one out of 4 test. So its 3 test and final which equals four. I went to the lectures and studied but still got low test scores, maybe I didn't pay enough attention
1 WORD "STUDY" easy class to pass but it is only based on 3 test and 1 writing project. Multiple choice test but I would totally recommend this class. NO TEXT BOOK :)
Camp is great! No book needed, drops lowest test score. Lectures are interesting and explained very well, not from PowerPoints. One easy paper and 3 tests. Study your notes and youll get an A. 97% on first test, 100% on second, and 95% on the third. Didnt even have to take the final!!!
Vic is an awesome guy, super laid back and passionate about his field work and teaching. His class is fairly easy, but you NEED to show up. as long as you show up to class, you'll do fine. I went to class but never studied, and got an 88%, 88%, and 97% on the midterms. There's also a short paper mid-semester, but its a piece of cake.
There are 3 tests and the final is optional (takes the place of lowest test score if taken). Overall this class is pretty straight forward but VERY boring! You don't need to buy a book and attendance isn't mandatory, however without a textbook the tests are based off his lectures. He provides study guides for all the exams which are helpful.
The easiest class I've ever taken for my school life. Not only is the class interesting but also is easy to get As with no effort. Just study a day before exam
This class was great, and very easy. Vic is a really good teacher, who is very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. The lectures were really interesting in my opinion, and the tests were fairly straightforward, just study the study guide.
Class is easy but you really got to know your stuff in order to do well on tests. If you do good on first exams you don't have to take a final which is nice ;)
Love this class so much. It's easy. Professor is hilarious. 1 super easy essay at home and 4 exams (drop 1 lowest)
Camp is very kind and approachable, and his good sense of humor helps make the exceedingly dull subject somewhat entertaining. The grade is composed of three exams and a final - although he drops whichever exam you scored the lowest on from your final grade - as well as a short but surprisingly difficult essay.
Camp is very kind and approachable, and his good sense of humor helps make the exceedingly dull subject somewhat entertaining. The grade is composed of three exams, a short take-home essay, and a final, which is optional if you did well on the previous exams. Your lowest exam score is dropped from your final grade.
Lectures are interesting, and very informative. Posts powerpoint slides online with abundant info, so lecture is basically a reinforcement of what's on the slides. Attendance isn't mandatory, but helpful--he does cover info that isn't on the slides. 3 exams, 1 paper, and final (optional). He's funny, and very knowledgable, he loves what he does!
My favorite professor of the semester! I took him for an upper GE and wasn't too interested in the subject but he made it interesting and fun. Great sense of humor, and if you go to the lectures you won't need the book. 3 exams, 1 two page paper, and an optional final. Very clear about what is expected for grading. Highly recommended.
I genuinely enjoyed this class and would take it again. I should have put in more effort, but even with minimal, I got a decent grade. 4 tests ( final is comprehensive and lowest test score is dropped) 1paper
Knows his stuff and his presentations are all online so you don't have to go if you don't want to. I recommend you do though as he is a good professor who is passionate about his subject. No textbook required. 3 tests, an essay, and a kinda-optional final.
Camp is an okay professor. Lectures are long, material is dry and boring. He makes jokes occasionally but still is boring. 3 tests, 1 paper, no midterm and 1 final. Drops lowest test score. I was 1/2 a point away from getting bumped up and he wouldn't do it. Don't expect him to bend over for you. Show up to class, dont skip. Longggg lectures.
Great professor with dry sense of humor. Although attendance is not tracked, I think it is vital to passing the course with a high grade. Some information covered in class is not in the powerpoint slides, but all powerpoints are posted on blackboard. 4 exams, drops lowest (making the final optional), and one take-home quiz is your whole grade.
Long lecturer, but enjoys the subject. Three tests, one final and a take home quiz make up your entire grade. He drops the lowest test grade so if you do well on the first three tests, the final is optional. I would take his class again. No textbook required!
I did okay in this class, there are 4 test If include final he drop your lowest test score and 1 essay writing. I got passing even though I struggle in this subject, but interesting class for natural disaster.
Professor Camp really makes this class the funnest it can be! I'm not going to lie, the first 2 weeks of this course are super boring, but after that the fun begins. I thought his tests were challenging (if you wanted an A). However, he is very helpful if you ask. No textbook required, so that'll be good to your pockets. Recommend.
I loved Camp & this class! Subject matter is very interesting & Camp loves what he teaches. Lectures are all PowerPoint with lots of pictures. Lectures can be kinda dry but it is important to go because he explains things not in slides. 3 tests, 1 paper, 1 cumulative final that can be dropped. He's been the best teacher I had so far at SDSU!
His lectures got it all. Organized, clear, interesting, and often hilarious. He's got some great stories from his life in volcanology, and his passion is contagious. You don't even need to show up for the lecture to do well on the tests, but I did for all the above reasons. Also he wants us to spread the word: it's mudFLOWS not mudslides!
Dr. Vic Camp is very knowledgible and passionate about geology, which makes the class very interesting. I wouldnt recommend the class to anyone that struggles on exams. The class is based on souly your exam scores. He guves you one assignment and no extra credit is givin throughout the semester. Anyone that struggles on exams will suffer greatly.
4 tests (only 3 count) and a short paper. Do the study guide before every test. Hes a knowledgable guy and he'll make a funny joke here and there. Lectures seem to be super long. I honestly never showed up the 2nd half of the semester and almost forgot I was taking the class lol. Still passed it with a B. Took the class cuz NO textbook required.
Someone said if you struggle with exams you'll do poor in the class- not true. He gives you a study guide for each exam with everything you need to know for it. Not hard. Most ppl create a google doc & send to the rest of class so you don't even have to make your own. He is very helpful if you ask & very clear in explaining. Not poor at all!
I've been struggling with this class since day 1. It's an upper division general ed class, and it requires a lot of studying. I spent over 5 hours studying for his exams, and they were still tough. Not recommended at all.
AMAZING PROFESSOR & I'm not a Geol. major; student below me must've been in my class & not showed up to class because while this class is by no means an "easy A", it IS doable & you ARE able to pass this class with a B & above. SIMPLE: SHOW UP TO CLASS, LISTEN/TAKE LECTURE NOTES & ahem, ACTUALLY GO OVER PPT SLIDES ON YOUR OWN, oh and *gasp* STUDY!
Prof. Camp really knows his material & makes it fun at times. His exams are NOT hard so long as you actually STUDY. Be a college adult & take the time to try to understand the material. If you struggle in this class, most likely you're sitting in the back, distracted and/or not showing up to class! Great class & by far one of my FAVORITE classes!
Nice teacher. I went to class everyday, and I still didn't understand the material. I'm not that great in science, but I tried my hardest. It's a lot of info for an upper division general ed class. Definitely was not my fav class.
The class I had with this professor was quite lecture heavy, but his charisma and passion about the subject made it worthwhile. Stays on topic while not being too serious, and is clearly very knowledgeable about what he is teaching. Wish more professors were like this.
I definitely recommend taking this class for one of your upper division GE's. It was easy and really entertaining. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I recommend going since his lectures are interesting and help you learn the concepts. There are 3 exams and a cumulative final, but you drop the lowest score. There's also a pretty easy writing assingmt
Vic Camp is a really nice guy but I wouldn't call him an amazing professor. I think that class is pretty boring. The lecture notes are long and extensive and the only source of information for this class. He doesn't really make the information interesting either. He does provide study guides for the exams which are pretty straightforward.
Awesome class. I didn't expect much, but the enthusiasm of Dr Camp is contagious. All his power points are available, but must come to class to do well. No book.
What a great class. Prof Camp is extremely knowledgable and he makes the information relevant and interesting. I'm a business major and still loved this class. All you have to do is pay attention and go over the powerpoints (which he puts on blackboard) before the exams and you'll do well.
He sure is a great prof. But i went to about 3 classes all semester long. 3 tests and an optional final. Gotta study a bit but don't attend class.. if you're looking for a class to do on your own based off the power points this is the class for you. I'd say it's an easy class.
Vic is such a SWEET and CARING professor. He has corky humor, and you can tell he is so passionate about the course material. The content is very interesting. You learn about how earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanoes, and impacts on earth. Very understanding guy i want to write so much more! TAKE HIM!! Favorite teacher thus far.
Amazing! I learned so much cool stuff from this class. No textbook or outside readings, so going to class is a must. Exams are straight forward, and simple if you know the material. He is the best! No need to look further, TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!
So just took his final exam today, and most of our class got a C average, at best. Which is strange because we studied all night on the study guide he issued us, and on the test, the study guide only covered less than half of what was on it. It feels like on he tests you on things he only mentions once in lecture and doesn't put in the study guide
GEOG303 is a fun and entertaining class despite the sometimes morbid nature of natural disasters. No textbook, so attending lectures and taking notes is a must. Exams get pretty detail oriented, but the lowest score (cannot be the final) is dropped. Overall a solid elective choice, a decent lecturer, and an approachable prof.
3 exams, lowest dropped. Mandatory cumulative final. Good study guides. 1 three page paper, not too bad. Lectures are kinda boring. According to him, missing 1 class losing 1 letter grade on the exam. Idk about that. Got a D on the final even though I studied everything on the study guide.
Didn't expect much from this class but was drawn in by great lecturers. No book, just power points and lecture material, but don't miss class. Study guides are clear and very useful.
Pretty straightforward GE class to take. Only 1 paper which is pretty easy, 3 midterms (lowest scored one gets dropped) and a cumulative final. Not so stressful because there's no book or side homework activities just lectures. Prof. Camp really is passionate about the subject so he makes the lectures more interesting.
Camp is extremely passionate about Geology. His lectures might be boring to some but the subject of Natural Disasters is pretty interesting and he often lightens the mood with fun personal anecdotes. There is one "paper" or take-home essay to write which is extremely short, and the rest of the grade is based on tests. Study and you'll pass easily.
Camp is a sweet guy. Straight to the point lectures (can be dry) but everything you need is on the ppts (which he posts on BB). 3 tests (drops lowest), final exam and 1 take home quiz (essay). I studied two days before exams & got A's on all 3. There's no book to buy so that's a plus! This class does not take much effort at all. Highly recommend.
It is a good class but the trouble shooting is difficult. I hope the professor will open the advanced class and share other function plugins.
Everything you need on the power-points. If you want an A tho best to show up to class because some of the power-points can be pretty useless if you don't have the lecture to support it. Type of class where if you show up, take notes, study a bit - you'll pass. Given the topic, Camp does a pretty good job at keeping lecture interesting.
NO TEXTBOOK, easy A. attendance not mandatory, lowest exam grade dropped, entire grade consists of exams and one essay. He drops a study guide before every exam which is pretty much what's on the tests, so study it and KNOW it if you want an A (it's not too much content don't worry), and he puts his powerpoints on blackboard. Easy GE, niceteacher
great class, good well organized lectures, and expectations are very clear. It's just 4 exams and a take home quiz which all are very fair. He releases a very helpful study guide and posts his powerpoints online. It's an interesting elective course that won't take up too much extra time, if you go to class and study a few hours you should get an A.
Pretty straightforward professor who doesn't beat around the bush. Grade consist of 3 exams (the lowest is dropped), a take-home quiz that's really just a short essay, and a final. Study guide list everything that you'll need and most people have the exams on quizlet anyway. Overall highly recommend.
So I took this class thinking it would be an easy A, like all the reviews said it would be. When I hear, "It's an easy A" I think a 95% or higher will be achievable with minimal effort. It's a lot of studying and memorization. If you want to put in a lot of effort then I guess "It's an easy A".
This guy ruined my gpa. I passed all my classes except this one. No matter how much I studied for exams it was nearly impossible to get a good score. If you want to learn and get a good grade take Sacramentogrilo instead!
The way exams are worded are set up for students to fail. His exams are usually 20 questions T/F and 40 other questions are multiple choice. You can tell he wants students to fail just by looking at his study guide, they have a confusing format.
Show up and get an A. Don't show up, go over PPTs the night before the exam and get an A. Either way, you get an A if you try. No reading required at all. But even so, I learned SO MUCH, and people went to lecture because it was SO INTERESTING. I've never enjoyed a GE like this before.
If you've taken any basic geology or geography courses before, this will be CAKE. If not, you'll struggle with terminology and concepts. Dr Camp gives really good lectures and adds cute, clean comedy to them. Test heavy because that's basically ALL you are graded on. No homework and one short 2 page paper. Would highly recommend.
Go to class or not, his lectures are online and the tests come from that. He is funny and I enjoyed going to his class. I took oceanography before this class and my friends took astrology and we both agreed that a lot of the material is similar to these other classes. Overall easy
Very professional. I hate waiting for my score when I take an exam, but that is not the case with Dr. Camp. He literally gives your exams score back a few hours after it's taken. He knows his stuff and is very approachable and kind. I highly recommend him. I only got a B in the class because I slacked off, but getting an A is totally possible.
Camp is a good lecturer and experienced in his field. You could probably pass by studying his slides (on BB) and only showing up on exam day, but he is great at answering questions and provides insights the slides do not. Exam grades are posted very quickly, usually the same day you take them. Only 1 assigned homework, lowest of 3 exams is dropped.
Pretty solid choice. grade is based on 4 exams and a quiz. he drops the lowest grade on the exam. He is knowledgeable. Make sure to study the study guide before the exam!
Professor is very knowledgeable about natural disasters and can be funny during lectures sometimes. He doesn't require you to have a textbook for his class and gives out four exams and a paper assignment throughout the semester. His tests were hard given they were off the power points slides and drops one of the lowest scores excluding the final.
This class is probably very easy if you've taken a geology class before. I haven't since the 6th grade, so a lot of these terms were very new to me and it was not quite an "Easy A". My grade hasn't been posted yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm getting a B or B+. The prof is a great guy, brought his "favorite rock" to class one day. I took this for a GE
Class consisted of 4 exams and a paper (got cancelled this semester). Simple lectures w/ powerpoints and the exams easy. Take good notes and review the powerpoint - study well and you will be just fine. He also brings in cool props to class. One time he brought part of the Earths mantle and let us touch it. Very passionate about geology.
Dr. Camp is extremely passionate about his field. His class is extremely lecture heavy, you need the info from the lectures. But beyond that there's no HW, the entire class is graded on four exams. Go to class, it's an easy pass.
Understand his lectures and you'll pass. Lots of memorization. Grading criteria ONLY mostly from the main tests. The final test was not comprehensive. I only got a C because I had to focus on other classes I had. A bit monotone, though, so I fell asleep a lot of times but he has all the PPT materials on the blackboard so I would just go on them
easy tests if you do the study guide dont worry too much about missing classes slides are posted. But if you skip you may miss out on meeting his favorite rock or hearing a good story. i know what youre thinking but hes nOt one of those professors that goes on tangents he sticks to a schedule 10/10 would take again
great professor who turns lectures into interesting stories without being inefficient or straying from the topic/info. probably not a good idea to miss a class but he makes the content he went over that day accessible online. easy tests if you utilize the study guide.
Study hard and watch the lectures or else you're not going to pass
Low room for error because quizzes are 10 minutes with 10 questions. Can study for hours and still miss questions. Not recommended because of this time limit.
Professor Camp seems like a nice guy, but his lectures can be dry, and his quizzes are hard. There's a total of 10 quizzes, and a paper due in the middle of the semester. Little leg room if you miss a question on a quiz. I would not take again.
Quizzes consist of 10 questions giving you a minute to answer each. Writing assignment was vague. Would not recommend for online learning.
Online class is a massive chore where you are expected to learn 50 slides worth of information which is then condensed into a 10 question quiz, 1 minute per question. No extra credit either. Disappointed
Nice guy but don't take this class online. 50 pages worth of notes. Videos of lectures and PP slides, quizzes are 10 questions timed for 10 minutes, one paper and you'll still struggle to get a decent grade. Don't expect extra credit or any help. No study guide for the final exam either.
Very disappointed in this class. With everything going on in the world you would think this class would be fine to take. Not the case here. Victor, how does it feel that your whole curriculum is disappointing? 3+ hours of lectures for 10 min 10 question quiz. No time to think. 40 question final 40 MIN. Are you out of your mind or just dont care?
The crazy thing is that it really is not a hard class yet Victor makes it that way due to the way he set this class up. 10 MIN time limit on quizzes? How can a class have lecture hours from 1230-145 yet you only have 10 min to take a quiz thats based off of 3+ hours of lectures. I dont even think Victor knows what he is doing himself. Dont take
You'll be more concerned about getting and keeping an A than actually learning anything. 10 minute quizzes with a 10 minute time limit isn't going to cut it, Victor. This class is a joke and makes me not want to take up geology again.
A cumulative final with 40 questions and a 40 minute time limit? Do you just really not care about your students?
This guy doesn't care about you or your struggles. He's passionate, but his paranoia of preventing cheating is just making this class difficult for students. We have no guidance. Don't take.
I think he is a decent lecturer. However, considering the current circumstances, all that lecture material compressed into 10 minutes, 10 question quizzes is very difficult. We do not even get to see what questions we got right or wrong on the quizzes. The final is 40 questions, 40 minutes with no type of study guide and is cumulative. Don't take!
One of the laziest online professors I ever had the misfortune of taking. Save your gpa and take another science class because as the previews reviews have stated, he really does not care because he's more concerned about people cheating in his tests (can't even find his questions online anyway?)
You'd be lying to yourself if you said you actually remembered majority of this stuff this guy taught you. Oh wait, we only see him through pre-recorded lectures. Prime example of a lazy online professor!
The final was awful. Only 45 minutes for a 40 question final. I rushed the last 10 minutes and received a B. Not at all satisfied and I was so stressed out and under pressure due to the time limit
Asynchronous class. Your grade is based on 10 quizzes which are timed for 10 minutes. The video lectures are 3 hours long so you are expected to remember a lot of info for 10 questions. Same deal with the final exam which was 45 min with 40 questions with no study guide. Don't take this class. Save yourself the grief.
One writing assignment and 10 quizzes plus final. No rounding. Provides power points for lecture.
You'll be taking quizzes on each chapter. To ensure no cheating you won't be able to go back on a question you've answered and you only get one minute per question. For example quizzes: 10 questions, 10 minutes. Questions are pulled from a bank at random! He records all the lectures & also has ppt slides if you would prefer that to study.
You don't attend university and spend thousands for lazy teaching, and students shouldn't have to settle for 3 hour lectures, 10 question quizzes and no help at all. What is so awesome about that? Nothing.
Camp is very nice and knowledgeable on the subject, but his lectures are boring! The course material being interesting was what saved me. His quizzes are somewhat detailed, but it was all manageable.
The easiest and most straight forward professor and class ever. His lectures and amazing, but they are dense and a bit slow. I recommend watching them in 2x speed. We had 10 quizzes, 2 of which were dropped, one essay, and one easy final (which had the same questions as the quizzes). Easy class, just make sure to watch all of his videos!
Do not take his class online, especialy if you don't do well in timed quizzes. Victor doesn't care about your circumstances! People celebrated because he gave us an extra five minutes on the final for a forty minute forty question test. The curriculum just screamed lazy and disappointment
Honestly such an interesting class! Lectures are asynchronous however going over them is important for the quizzes! All the quizzes are 10 questions with only 10 minutes so make sure you take good notes from lecture & study the power points! Overall an easy upper division GE requirement.
